Two Mothers Remembered by Joann Snow Duncanson

I had two Mothers – two Mothers I claim Two different people, yet with the same name. Two separate women, diverse by design, But I loved them both because they were mine. The first was the Mother who carried me here, gave birth and nurtured and launched my career. She was the one whose features I bear, Complete with the facial expressions I wear. She gave me her love, which follows me yet, along with the examples in life that she set. As I got older, she somehow younger grew, and we’d laugh as just Mothers and daughters should do. But then came the time that her mind clouded so, And I sensed that the Mother I knew would soon go. So quickly she changed

and turned into the other, A stranger who dressed in the clothes of my Mother. Oh, she looked the same, at least at arm’s length, but now she was the child and I was her strength. We’d come full circle, we women three, My Mother the first, the second and me. And if my own children should come to a day, when a new Mother comes and the old goes away, I’d ask of them nothing that I didn’t do. Love both of your Mothers as both have loved you.

The Rose Hotel raises the flag.

The Rose Hotel embraced their American heritage this Saturday to celebrate the 4th of July to mark Independence Day. Festivities began at 11am with a raising of the American flag ceremony by US Military Veterans with Mark Sullivan, General Manager. From 1pm-3pm there was live music from The Rose Hotel float as you arrive for lunch. The 4th of July menu included some delicious food in honour of the day, Executive Chef Odran Lucey’s menu that definitely tantalised and tickled your taste buds. Customers enjoyed finger licking Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Waffles with Maple Glaze, or mouth-watering Beef Brisket Tacos served with chunky Tomato Salsa & Avocado, or something a little healthier Citrus Glazed Shrimp Skewers with Peach Salad. Of course any American themed meal would not be complete without a traditional Mississippi Mud Pie with generous helpings of Chocolate Sauce and Ice Cream. The menu ran in Dott’s Bar, The Rose Hotel’s own slice of Manhattan chic on Saturday. Dott’s Bar is ideal for a casual dining experience serving delicious food. The bar menu is available from 12noon until 9.30pm each evening, reservations are not necessary but you can reserve by calling us 066 7199100. We are adhering to 2 metre social distancing in our bar and restaurants, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere while we ensure the safety of our guests and colleagues are at the heart of everything we do. KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Image and reputation Sabrina is wondering does she have any right to her image and reputation i.e. her public persona?

3.

Astonishingly in Irish Law there is no right to one’s own image. There is no law in Ireland directly prohibiting someone from using someone’s else’s voice, image, or likeness without their consent. However there is obviously a value in one’s image particularly if one is a celebrity, a sports personality, actor, or a TV personality. If one is a celebrity one’s image , voice and likeness constitutes a personal brand. One could argue we all have our own personal brand!

4.

5.

However there are alternative legal rights that can protect this personal image, reputation and brand.

6.

1. Copyright whereby one’s creations e.g. a show, a work, music, a performance art, can be protected. Any original production of a celebrity is protected by copyright. If someone uses that material without consent the copyright holder can take action against them suing them for breach of copyright. E.g. one copies a famous performance in one’s dramatic production. 2. The Tort of Passing off whereby someone tries to pass off their image or brand as that of the famous person e.g. saying someone famous is endorsing their brand by using their photograph when they have not. Talksport were

sued by Eddie Irvine for using his image without consent successfully under this heading. Trademark whereby a famous person can register their name against a certain product or brand. E.g. David Beckham earns a lot of money through brands and he has obtained trademark protection for this. GDPR and Privacy- whereby one can take action against persons for breaching one’s privacy. The context of the breach is important e.g. taking secret photos at a celebrity’s wedding and selling the photographs would result in action being taken. Defamation law whereby the person’s persona is used in a way that damages that reputation is could result in a defamation action. E.g. the use of one’s image for something one would never endorse and saying that that therefore damages one’s reputation. Misleading commercial practices whereby they are saying that a sports drink improves performance referring to a good sportsperson without their consent or any scientific backup.

Many of the above are useful for people are famous but everybody has a reputation and an image one would argue that they want to protect so that it is not copied or highjacked by anybody else. Hopefully long-term we will get stronger laws on this which will apply whether it is online or in reality. Law Quip: Make three correct guesses consecutively and you will establish a reputation as an expert.” — Laurence J. Peter

Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE I hope you’re all having an amazing week. This week, after 6 long months, I finally got my hair done! The last time I had my hair done was early February, I had an appointment booked for the first week in April, but obviously, that never happened. As you all may or may not know, I get my hair done in Patrick’s The Hair Company. I always have (when i am in Tralee of course). I decided to switch up my hair, but i wanted minimal damage… As my hair was most recently dyed blue black in February, I didn’t have too many options as lightening it would only damage it. I am in the process of trying to grow my hair quite long so any lightening would just hinder that. I decided I wanted to be quite on trend and lighten two front pieces of my hair. Ideally I want the front pieces blonde but lightening my hair that much in one go was not going to happen. The picture with the mask is clearly a before picture, my hair was IN NEED to be done, the atmosphere was fantastic and i felt very safe getting my hair done, I wore my mask at all times. Michelle and Catriona looked after my colour, I got a dark brown in the back and lighter more chocolate brown in the front, as well as some curtain bangs, V on trend, v parisian chic if I do say so myself. I absolutely love how my hait turned out. It looks and feels SO much healthier and I am delighted with it. I know that there are long waiting lists to get appointments at the moment for hair, so be sure to book in ahead of time, and also rebook your next appointment when you’re leaving to ensure you don’t struggle to get one next time!

We lost 1597 pounds (114 stone)!

Laurens Slimming World Groups in Tralee and Dingle have lost an Amazing 1597 lbs (or 114 st) since 'Lockdown' in March! Read Catherine's story .... Today 4.5 years ago I joined Slimming World full of apprehension and doubt. I needn't have doubted the wonderful, transformative way it has changed my life for the better. Making lifestyle changes, swapping certain high calorie foods for healthier ones and incorporating body magic has helped me lose over 7.5 stone. It is a daily journey but worthwhile. Best decision I ever made. Thanks Slimming World.

FITNESS!

Hello my strong friends

I hope you’re having a great week

This week I returned to the gym after 4 months not being there, I have a new gym plan from my online trainer, Kiki Nugent and I feel like going in and knowing EXACTLY what I am doing is really benefitting my gym experience. So this week I’m going to to talk about the importance of knowing what you’re doing at the gym, AKA having a plan. When it comes to going to a gym, knowing why you’re there and having specific goals is essential. There’s no point in going to the gym and hopping from machine to machine not really knowing what you’re doing or why you’re there, you’re wasting your own time and money. I’m not saying you have to go out and spend a fortune on a personal trainer 5 days a week, unless you want to. But I am saying definitely talk to someone with knowledge so that you can gain the most from your money spent. Here are my top tips for getting the most out of going to the gym… 1. Sit down, and ask yourself what you want: What do you want to gain from going to the gym? Do you want to lose body fat? Gain muscle? Put on weight? Feel good? Knowing what you want from going to the gym is the first step. 2. Talk to a trainer: Whether it’s one of the people who work in your gym or another personal trainer, I think it’s very important to talk to someone in the know about what you want to achieve from going to the gym. Most gyms I have been in offer free consultations with their trainers where you can talk about what you want etc. Otherwise you can contact a personal trainer and have a once off consultation where they will make you a gym programme and talk to you about food and your own personal diet. You can go to a personal trainer as often as you like, you

Rebecca

Friday 10th July 2020

don’t have to go 5 days a week. 3. Set goals: Once you meet the trainer make sure to set goals that fit you and what you want from going to the gym. And I’m not talking long term unachievable goals, I’m talking realistic short term ones to keep you motivated. 4. ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN: Whenever you are going to the gym, always have a plan of what you are going to do, for example, leg day, hiit cardio, arms and chest etc. By having a plan you know exactly what you are there to do and it will keep you on track and focused. Honestly it has made such a difference this week going into the gym with an exact plan of what I am going to do. It eliminates time wasting and makes me feel so much more focused. 10/10 would recommend.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2020 Hay ho folks, I do hope ye are all doing well, & I hope ye have enjoyed the cooking videos on Croí restaurant Facebook page, I’ll do some more shortly, here is a very tasty simple salad

MARINATED CUCUMBER AND TOMATO SALAD

Serves 10

This easy cucumber and tomato salad tastes like summertime in a bowl. The dressing is light and zingy from the vinegar, the cucumbers and onion are so pleasantly crunchy you can’t stop eating them, and the tomatoes are so juicy and sweet they burst in your mouth. It’s perfect as a light summer snack, but would also be a great side dish at any barbecue

INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • •

3 large cucumbers, peeled and cut into 1/4-in. thick slices 3 ripe tomatoes, cut into wedges 1 onion, sliced into rings 1/2 cup white vinegar 1/2 cup water 1/3 cup olive oil 3 tablespoons granulated sugar 1 tablespoon sea salt 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

METHOD Place cucumbers, tomatoes, and onion in a large bowl; set aside. Whisk together vinegar, water, olive oil, sugar, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl until sugar and salt dissolve. Pour dressing over cucumber mixture; toss to coat Cover and chill at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours

AN EMPLOYER’S GUIDE: Frequently asked questions 1. Can I reduce the salaries of my staff? Yes, but the employee must consent in writing to this, verbal agreements do not suffice. 2. What if the employee refuses a wage cut? The employer can consider making the role redundant. 3. Did workers accrue holidays whilst on temporary lay-off? No, holiday hours are accrued through working hours. 4. What if employees were on employers wage subsidy scheme during lay-off? Are they entitled to holidays? Still no. 5. Can I insist an employee works from home? Yes, but there needs to be written agreement of the terms and conditions surrounding this between the employer and employee. 6.Did probationary periods lapse whilst certain new employees were on lay-off? Probationary periods would have been suspended during lay-off periods once stipulated in contracts or staff handbooks – if it was not stipulated then the original probationary period will stand. 7. If working hours have changed because of Covid-19, what should I do? Review your employment contracts and ensure that any changes are addressed and agreed in writing. 8. What if we do not have employment contracts? Get them in place ASAP as it is illegal to not provide written terms & conditions of employment. 9. Can I request employees to use up holidays at a time convenient to the business? Yes, but a clear & transparent annual leave policy will help manage the unusual holiday dilemma caused by Covid-19 and ensure team morale is not impacted. 10. Can I refuse holiday requests? Yes, but again an employer needs to be careful that they have put in place the suggestions in answer 9 above and the employee is still entitled to avail of their annual leave entitlement at one point or another. 11. What if an employee refuses to attend training or adhere to guidelines? Again, all necessary training for business operational purposes should be referenced to in employment contracts & company handbooks; this would make it a lot easier to deal with such scenarios. For help, support and advice on the above or on any of your HR & Payroll needs please feel free to contact us. LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !

TROPHY WIFE Bob, a 70-year-old, extremely wealthy widower shows up at the Country Club with a breathtakingly beautiful 25 year-old blonde who knocks everyone’s socks off with her youthful looks and charm. She hangs onto Bob’s arm and listens intently to his every word. His buddies at the club are all aghast. At the very first chance, they corner him and ask, “Bob, how did you get the trophy girlfriend?” Bob replies, “Girlfriend? She’s my wife!” They’re amazed, but continue to ask. “So, how did you persuade her to marry you?” “I lied about my age”, Bob replies. “What, did you tell her you were only 50?” Bob smiles and says, “No, I told her I was 90.”

MY WIFE WON’T LIKE IT

HOW DOES AN APPLE WATCH OWNER KNOW THAT IT’S MIDDAY? It’s already run out of battery.

THE NOTE I came home from the golf course today, and found a note my wife had left on the refrigerator. IT’S NOT WORKING. I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE. GONE TO STAY WITH MY SISTER I opened the fridge. The light came on. The beer was cold. What the HELL is she talking about?

ROY HODGSON IS ON THE JONATHAN ROSS SHOW

One day I accidentally overturned my golf buggy. Elizabeth, a very attractive and keen golfer, who lived in a villa on the golf course, heard the noise and called out, Are you okay, what’s your name?” “Its Jack , and I’m Okay thanks,” I replied. “Jack , forget your troubles. Come to my villa, rest a while, and I’ll help you get the cart up later.” “That’s mighty nice of you,” I answered, but I don’t think my wife would like it.” “Oh, come on,” Elizabeth insisted. She was very pretty and persuasive... I was weak. “Well okay,” I finally agreed, and added, “but my wife won’t like it.”

Afterwards the host takes his guest down to the local pub. They leave the pub completely smashed and Roy and Jonathan decide to break into a distillery. Roy is the first to open a cask, tastes it, and asks Jonathan, “Is this whiskey?”

After a restorative brandy, and some creative putting lessons, I thanked my host. “I feel a lot better now, but I know my wife is going to be really upset.” “Don’t be silly! Elizabeth said with a smile, She won’t know anything. By the way, where is she?” “Under the cart!”

EASTER JOKE

I WAS DIGGING A HOLE IN MY BACKYARD... I was digging a hole in my backyard when I found a box filled with gold coins. In my excitement I ran back in the house to tell my wife when I remembered why I was digging a hole.

Jonathan replies, “Not as wisky as wobbing a bank!”

WHY DO SCUBA DIVERS ALWAYS FALL BACKWARDS INTO THE WATER? If they fell forward they’d still be in the boat.

This rooster wakes up early Easter Sunday morning. He sticks his head out of the chicken coop, and sees all these multicolored eggs all over the barnyard. He takes a look at the eggs, takes a look at the hens, takes another look at the eggs, takes one more look at the hens, he thinks about it for a minute, then he walks across the barnyard and smashes the peacock.

Under the new payment system, it will cost them from €3.41 to boost a car battery by 100kms at a standard/slow-charge outlet.ESB ecars, who run the system, say that represents a 40pc saving on fuelling a typical family diesel for the same distance.Up to now EV and plug-in hybrid owners could use the standard network chargers (up to 22kW AC) for free at locations in cities, towns and villages. The only outlets that involved payment, since November last, were the relatively small number of fast chargers - mostly on main routes. They cost from 26.8c per kWh.But now, for the first time and after 10 years of free electricity, motorists will have to pay for the standard/slower AC chargers as well. The decision has been taken after, and to continue with, a major upgrade of the national network, according to ESB ecars. There are two payment methods for using a standard charger: *Pay-As-You-Go (26.8c per kWh); *Membership (23c per kWh and a €4.60 monthly subscription). ESB ecars say the latter is more suitable for anyone using the system more than five times a month. Super high-power chargers (150kW) hubs will also be installed in the next while. The majority of EV owners are expected to mostly charge their cars at home, so the public chargers will be mainly used to top-up over longer journeys. It has been estimated that doing so could mean substantial savings on power costs compared with a diesel vehicle when night-rate electricity etc is taken into account.ESB ecars says the standard-charger upgrades are part of an overall €20m investment in renewing and expanding the electric vehicle public charging network supported by the Irish government’s Climate Action Fund.ESB ecars chief Niall Hogan said drivers are already seeing the benefits of investment in the system with “significant improvements in the reliability of the national network”.

NEW SEAT LEON DELIVERS MORE !

As revealed here some weeks back the new Seat Leon has just gone on sale from €23,910 for petrol and €26,040 for diesel. That’s around €500 more for a lot of additional equipment - and it is a new car.The fourth generation, first ‘electrified’ Leon was officially launched yesterday. The company claims it is the safest Seat to date with adaptive cruise control as standard. It comes with conventional petrol, diesel and mild hybrid powertrains. There will be an estate from August with a plug-in hybrid due in Q4.

OCTAVIA LANDING IN SEPTEMBER

SKODA is all excited about its new vRS performance models in the latest Octavia. It’s the first time there have been three different drive systems. As well as the petrol and diesel versions there will be an Octavia vRS iV plug-in hybrid. It and the two-litre TSI Octavia vRS produce the same 245PS of power while the two-litre diesel pumps an impressive 200PS. It is the only model in the range with all-wheel drive on request. The ‘basic’ Octavia is likely to go on the Irish market in September so we’ll have to wait a wee while after that to enjoy the performance models.

MOTORING QUERIES WITH HONEST JOHN SHOULD I WORRY ABOUT MY HYUNDAI TUCSON’S ENGINE RATTLE?

I have just bought a 1.7 diesel and it makes a loud rattling sound from around the engine bay. I’m told by the dealership this is nothing to worry about. What do you think? G.C. H.J. says ... Did the dealer inspect the car before coming up with this diagnosis? If not, we’d demand a full mechanical check from the selling garage or a refund. The Tucson has had reported issues with the clutch that can in turn result in problems with the dual mass flywheel (DMF). We would be concerned that this rattle is a sign that all is not well with the DMF.

WHY IS MY CAR’S FUEL ECONOMY SO POOR?

I have a Corolla, which was built in 1999. Recently over the past few months I have noticed that the fuel economy has gotten worse. The last time I refuelled I had 220 miles from a tank. The regular garage found no problem but suggested the fuel filter might be the problem . Your thoughts, please? M.B. H.J. says The fuel and air filters are the usual culprits. If they get blocked or dirty then it forces the engine to work harder. Likewise, check the tyre pressure as underinflation will also harm mpg. When was the car last serviced? If it’s more than 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) I would get it booked in with your local garage. Friday 10th July 2020

SPORTS BACK!! Every day that goes by we are seeing more and more sports announcing details of what will be the new normal for their 2020 and 2020/2021seasons. While there is still some uncertainty especially with the numbers that can attend we are certainly going in the right direction. I would expect to see clarification regarding the move to 500 people being allowed at outdoor events on July 20th. For the majority of club games 500 (we do need clarification on if the 500 attending a game including squads, management, stewards, media etc which would probably mean 400 supporters) would be ok until we reach the likes of the County Hurling or football final, soccer’s Greyhound Bar or Premier League final or the bigger home basketball games for Garvey’s and Keanes in Killorglin. But we still have a few months before we get to that stage so if its 500 from July 20th we will live with this. Hopefully then in August this will be further increased which is important for the bigger events that will be taking place towards the end of the year such as the All Ireland finals and the FAI Men’s and Women’s Cup finals. On a political point for a minute and certainly hope it never has to happen but if there are spikes in a county or area that the Government does not take the easy option and lockdown the whole country. Sport in Kerry should not be impacted if there is a spike in Dublin. Now I know the issue would be of teams travelling but then cancel these games or competitions but let sport in areas where the virus is very very low continue. But let’s hope they don’t have to make that decision. Sporting bodies and clubs are very complaint and adaptable and as we have seen, and will see once more live sport returns to the county, have no issue in implementing the hygiene regulations needed. But all this is no good with personable responsibility so hopefully all sports fans will remember this. But I know from all those covering sport in the county it is great to be looking forward to writing about live action rather than writing on historical games!! We have already seen action at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium, at the Killarney racecourse this week behind closed doors, on the Pitch and Putt course (see report later in the article) and on the golf course. Live soccer, football and hurling are only a few weeks away with other sports returning over the coming weeks and months. LOTS OF ACTION OFF THE BASKETBALL COURT: The way the last SuperLeague season ended for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors was not what anyone wanted or felt was fair. But for the players and coaches this will now be firmly in the past and this week’s announcement of the new Friday 10th July 2020

Conference set-up and teams will have concentrated minds ahead of the start in October. As we said last week the SuperLeague is split into two with 6 teams in each giving the teams a 16 game League with the top two going into the League Final which will be a huge day for the sport. The two Kerry sides – the Warriors and Keanes Supervalu Killorglin are in the Southern Conference alongside newly promoted Ballincolling, Neptune also from Cork and the two Galway sides Maree and Moycullen. While this does now seem on paper to be the stronger of the two Conferences – as the Northern Conference has the five Dublin teams Eanna, UCD Marian, Templeogue, Killester and DCU Saints and League champions Belfast Star – the fact is that every game in the Southern Conference will be hotly contested. There will be two derbies for every team and we know there can go either way. Both Kerry sides will have to go to Cork twice and Ballincollig will certainly be looking forward to their first season at the top level. So it will make for an interesting SuperLeague. And if derby games get you excited we will have two all Kerry clashes in the Men’s Division 1 with Team Kerry Killarney Cougars getting their licence to compete alongside Scotts Lakers St Paul’s. It will be interesting to see who this pans out. We also have a new team in the Women’s Division 1 with Killarney’s St Paul’s joining the League. This is great for the game with a wealth of talent in that side of the county. Whether they will have to clash with Team Tom McCarthy’s Castleisland will depend on what happens with their promotion game against Marble City Hawks. But is sure is exciting times for basketball in Kerry with 6 teams now playing on the national stage every week from October. UNDERAGE LEAGUE OF IRELAND SOCCER SQUADS BACK TRAINING: With the return of the League of Ireland set for the end of July and the Women’s National League to follow thoughts in Kerry turn to the Underage League of Ireland where once again teams will be fielded at 13’s, 15’s, 17’s and 19’s. Ahead of the new season set to start in mid-August the 17’s – under the new management team of Brendan Moloney and Dan Maunsell returned to training at Mounthawk Park last night – Thursday with the 19’s back tonight. Billy Dennehy and James Sugrue have stepped up from the 17’s to take charge of the 19’s. The Kerry 13’s and 15’s are also back training led by the management teams of Eoin O’Mahony/Billy Stack and Danny Diggins/Jimmy Clancy respectively. The teams are expecting the League of Ireland National League Executive Committee to announce the various groups this week.

Like all sports the KDL has implemented all the Return to Training and Play protocols as required by the FAI and players are reminded to come togged off and bring their own water bottles. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: All the Under-age teams – u6’s, u8’s, u10’s and u12’s are all back training under the GAA’s protocols. The u12’s Bord na nOg fixtures are set to get underway on July 19th. The u14’s are back and were due to play a challenge game this week ahead of the first round of their competition on July 29th. The u16’s competitions are set to thrown in on July 20th. All players and parents are asked to ensure they are familiar with the GAA’s protocols. HOME WORKOUT: Kerry GAA and RYPT are continuing with the 12-week return-to-play home workout with a programme that should help club players of all levels to prepare for club training and for games. This App-based programme should improve strength, power and speed. It will direct players through the club season. https://portal.rypt.app/#/ products/program/1AE2F6B; (ii) centreofexecellence.kerry@gaa.ie. ST PAT’S NEWS: The club Lotto is still suspended and the Committee will let members and supporters know when it will return. All teams are back in training under the protocols and competitions are due to being in the coming weeks. The minors and seniors are also preparing for their Championships. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: Ballyrickard was a hive of activity this week with all the age groups getting back onto the field which is a joy for all to see. Like all clubs protocols and procedures are in place for all activities that are taking place. The club is also delighted that the girls are also back training. The u12’s, u14 and u16 girls are training at the usual times each week. The club also has a signed Kerry goalkeepers jersey with they are raffling and tickets are on sale during the Juvenile Academy sessions costing e2 for one strip or one for e5. NA GAEIL NEWS: Like all clubs there was lots of action on the field with all the teams back training. The clubhouse also re-opened for Sunday Lunch with the social distancing measures in place. Club members must book a table. The seniors are getting ready for their Intermediate championship later in the month with the minors training for their County League opener on July 17th when they face An Ghaeltacht.

Caherslee with plans in place for an inter-club hurling and camogie league. The men are also lining up some challenge games in the coming weeks. Cul Camp: The Cul Camp is now sold out and it takes place from Monday August 10th to Friday 21st in Chaerslee GAA Grounds. PR-Og – The club has confirmed that it will participate in the new PR-Og initiative. This is being launched nationally by the Camogie Association and training is scheduled to start this week. There will be a position for a young person to learn the ropes for PR and promotion of camogie and Parnells are looking forward to participating and learning about the new role and opportunity. RALLYING IN THE US: Well known on the Kerry roads Camp native Kenneth Quirke will be tackling stages a little further afield as he has moved to the US. He is set to make his debut on the 18th of this month in the Southern Ohio Forest Rally where he will be alongside former Indycar racer Ryan Booth. A number of Irish drivers and navigators contest the US rallies and Quirke told Kerrymotorsportnews. com that “I am in for a good spin with Ryan and we hope to get a few days testing in before the event in the McKenna Motorsport Ford Fiesta R5.” PITCH AND PUTT NEWS: Of the course a meeting of the County Board takes place this Monday night at 9pm in St Mary’s Parish Hall Killarney to finalise plans and all clubs are asked to send a delegate. Tralee is set to host the County Strokeplay but a second course might be needed if numbers require in the u16’s and Ladies events. Pitch and Putt Ireland are finalising their calendar but unfortunately the Kerry u16’s won’t be defending their Provincial or National titles as these competitions are not running this year. ON THE COURSE: Post Covid Pitch and Putt has crowned its first title winner with Pa Fitzgibbon taking the Pop Ryle title. 279 were played in the Terry’s Butchers sponsored competition over the week and in a tightly contested Nett section Pa saw off Keith O’Brien by 2 shots. Keith had the consolation of holing in 1 on the Index 1 16th to take the Hole in One Prize. In the Gross section Jason Cregan took the prize on -21 with Alan Hobbart just seeing off Eamonn Sheehy on count back while in the Inter Section Danny O’Leary just got the better of Michael Conway on the back 18 score. Sean O’Leary was the Beginners Section winner with Dan O’Connor in second.

PARNELL’S NEWS: The club is delighted to see its teams back on the training field in
