New Skatepark Officially Opened By Mayor Of Tralee A new €200,000 skateboarding facility in Tralee has been officially opened tlast week and is the first such amenity developed in the county. The Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Mikey Sheehy cut the ribbon last Friday on OX Park near Tralee Sports Complex, which is named after the late skateboarding enthusiast and campaigner for the amenity, Bruce ‘The Ox’ Kelliher. Speaking at the Skatepark today, Mayor Sheehy acknowledged the campaign over many years by the local Skatepark Community Group for the development a safe and designated space in which skateboarders could pursue their passion. ‘This is a really special day for Tralee’ said Cllr Sheehy ‘and is testament to the tremendous work done by the community group as well as Kerry County Council, Kerry Education and Training Board and Tralee

Sports Complex. It is a wonderful addition to the local community and recreational infrastructure.’ In late 2017, a suitable site for the amenity was identified near Tralee Sports Complex and Tralee Skatepark Community Group applied for and were granted planning permission in April 2018. Funding was provided from the Sports Capital Programme, the Leader Programme and Kerry County Council and work commenced in April 2022. The project was supported by significant local fundraising. ‘Many towns and communities around the country would dearly love a fantastic facility like this. The contractors, Bendcrete, have delivered a really top-quality amenity of which they and the project promoters can be immensely proud,’ said Cllr Sheehy. ‘I would like to acknowledge
all the funding partners for this project, including Kerry County Council, Tralee Skatepark Community Group, the Department of Rural and Community Development through NEWKD and the LEADER programme as well as the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media through Sports Capital Funding,’ he added.

‘This wonderful amenity belongs to the people of Tralee and the wider county and that is the legacy of all those involved. I hope that the park here will bring great joy and entertainment to young people from Tralee and beyond over the coming years,’ said Cllr Sheehy.

The 4 girls flying the flag in Coventry are Kelly Fitzgerald and Lucy O Connor (Imperials) and Anna Collins and Jill Quirke (Ballymac Bobcats). The boys will compete against teams from Greece, Israel, Slovenia, Austria and Switzerland, while the girls’ group provides opposition from Canada, Lithuania, Greece and Australia. Under the direction of coaches Ruth O Keeffe and John Byrne, they can be guaranteed to give of their very best. Tralee ICG will be joined at the Games this year by another Irish team for the first time since 2008. Cork City Council, who are twinned with Coventry, received and accepted an invitation to attend as a sister city last March. What are the chances of meeting the Cork basketball team in one of the quarter
final matches? If it happens it should be just a little bit spicy!! “It’s good for us to have another Irish team competing” according to ICG chairman Mike Culloty. This is the first Games post Covid and there is great satisfaction that the event is back up and running. “There is tremendous goodwill in Kerry and indeed Ireland toward youth sport in general, and these young athletes who excel in their own communities and clubs, now get to taste International competition for the first time in their chosen sports. This participation is not possible without the support of parents, clubs, businesses and the general public who support our fundraising activities, such as raffle ticket sales, the

The teams will be joined in Coventry by no fewer than 42 supporters, family and friends. “It is incredible to think that for that week in Coventry there will be 65 Kerry people who will be enjoying the flavour of the Games, most for the first time. It promises to be a great week-on and off the field”!

THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES. I am going to a family wedding in France and I am looking forward to a week of relaxing on the beach after the wedding. My abdomen is my main issue. It looks wobbly and the skin looks old. I have lost weight but I want to feel confident on the beach without having surgery. Gillian. Hi Gillian, Our radio frequency skin tightening treatment would be my recommendation for your abdomen. This skin tightening treatment is F.D.A. approved, clinically proven and it is non surgical and non invasive. There is no downtime after the treatment and there would be no scarring. This treatment is to target loose and sagging skin using heat. Radio frequency works by gradually heating the dermal and subdermal tissues to tighten and re-contract the muscle superficially and voluntary. The heat penetrates deep into the layers of the skin and promotes collagen production. The collagen fibres contract and multiply which firms and contour the texture of the skin. As the dermis is heated, a natural reaction occurs that releases toxins in the fat and these toxins are then eliminated by the body. This gives the skin back its smoothness, shape and elasticity with no anaesthesia or recovery time required.
Head Coach Ger McDonnell with Kingdom Swimmers Lily May O Gara, Laurel Mason, Zala O Connor& Rachel Barry getting ready for the International Childrens Games in Coventry next week
A course of treatments is recommended and our practitioner will determine how many treatments are required during your initial consultation. Maintenance is achieved by top up treatments after six months.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! BIG FARM
A Texan rancher comes to Ireland and meets a Kerry farmer. The Texan says, “Takes me a whole goddam day to drive from one side of my ranch to the other.” The Kerry farmer says, “Ah sure, I know, sir. We have tractors like that over here too.”
JOB DONE
A Spanish singer chatting on television used the word ‘manana’. When asked what that meant, he said it means “maybe the job will be done to-morrow, maybe the next day, maybe the day after that, next week, next month or next year. Who cares?” An Irishman in the conversation, Shay Brennan, was then asked if there’s an Irish equivalent. “No. In Ireland we don’t have a word to describe that level of urgency”
WHERE IS MULLIGAN?
Two Irishmen met and one said to the other, “Have ye seen Mulligan lately, Pat?” Pat said, “Well, I have and I haven’t.” His friend asked, “well what d’ye mean by that?” Pat said, “It’s like this, y’see…I saw a chap who I thought was Mulligan, and he saw a chap that he thought was me. And when we got up to one another…it was neither of us.”
OUR HOUSE
Murphy was selling his house, and put the matter in an agent’s hands. The agent wrote up a sales blurb for the house that made wonderful reading. After Murphy read it, he turned to the agent and asked, “Have I got all you say there?” The agent said, Certainly ye have…Why do you ask? Murphy replied, cancel the sale, the place sounds grand to me
OHH MY GOD!
O’Connell was staggering home with a small Paddy in his back pocket when he slipped and fell heavily. Struggling to his feet, he felt something wet running down his leg. “Please, God,” he implored, “let it be blood!”
FRIDAY NIGHT
driving very erratically. He pulled the man over and asked him if he had been drinking that evening. ‘’Aye, so I have. ‘Tis Friday, you know, so me and the lads stopped by the pub where I had six or seven pints. And then there was something called ‘Happy Hour’ and they served these mar-gar-itos which are quite good. I had four or five o’ those. Then I had to drive me friend Mike home and o’ course I had to go in for a couple of Guinness -- couldn’t be rude, ye know. Then I stopped on the way home to get another bottle for later...’’ And the man fumbled around in his coat until he located his bottle of whiskey, which he held up for inspection. The officer sighed, and said, ‘’Sir, I’m afraid I’ll need you to step out of the car and take a breathalyzer test.’’ ‘’Why? Don’t ye believe me?’’

A WIFE ASKS HER HUSBAND IF SHE WERE TO DIE, WOULD HE REMARRY?...
and her husband says “yes I would remarry I like living a married life and spending time with someone else. The wife gets uncomfortable and proceeds to ask “ well would you let her live in our house?” And the husband says “yes I’d let her live here there’s nothing wrong with this house.” That worried the wife more, so then she asks “well would you let her sleep in our bed?” And the husband says “yes I like my bed and I don’t want to get rid of it I’d let her sleep in it.” This only makes the wife more worried so she feels compelled to say “well at least promise me you will never let her use my golf clubs.” The husband say “don’t worry she will never use your clubs, she’s left handed.”

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR BRENDAN MARTIN CUP STAYS IN MEATH BUT KERRY’S SEASON STILL VERY IMPRESSIVE: As we are a few days on from last Sunday’s LGFA Ladies All Ireland final the Kerry squad and management will have had some time to reflect on last Sunday’s loss. After a dream start Meath deserve huge credit for the way they patiently worked their way back into the game and took over for the majority of the rest of the game. Kerry were closed down quickly, were unable to win their own kick-outs and up front the Meath defence was on top. The Kerry players will probably be feeling that they didn’t do themselves justice. But they got to remember that they were up against a Meath team winning back to back Brendan Martin Cups, a team that had lost two Intermediate finals before winning one and then taking the senior section by storm. They play to system that everyone has bought into, the defend in numbers and break at pace and are blessed with a couple of players who come along once in a generation. However Kerry should take a huge amount of positives from the season. They won the League and playing in the top Division next season will be a huge boost to them. They now know what it is like to play in the biggest Ladies game of the year and they know they are well capable of performing at the level required to go one step further. So the future is very bright for the Kerry Ladies. I would expect the management of Darragh and Declan and their backroom staff and most of the panel to stay on and they have proved that they are able to bring new players into the fold. Meath are losing 4 players to Aussie Rules but no one should hold that against any player – male of female who gets a chance to play professionally. But they will be going all out for the three in a row. Dublin and Cork will be smarting at missing out on the final. Mayo and others will be looking to do what Meath did. So it’s exciting times and with over 46,000 at the finals there is a lot right in the LGFA world just as it is in most female sports at the moment. The task off the field for everyone involved in the administration side is to ensure that girls and women have every opportunity, structure and resource that the male game has. On the field the players will take care of the performance side. PARNELLS NEWS: The u7’s trained in mid-week and didn’t let the bad weather deter them from putting in a good session. Cian O’Carroll and Oran Hegarthy were named Players of the Week. The u12 Blue Camogie side put in their best performance of the season against Cillard. The seniors played Causeway in the Junior Camogie League. Despite missing a few regulars those on duty put in a great effort but the North Kerry side proved to be too strong on the night. The squad need to train regularly together

and hopefully with the new players they can drive on. The club wishes Chloe Moloney a speedy recovery from her recent injury. Cul Camp: There are still some places available on the clubs Cul Camp which runs from Monday 8th to Friday 12th at the Caherslee GAA Grounds with bookings open on-line. The club is very proud of minor player Kirby Anne Ryan who has won two gold medals, in the discus and the shot putt, at the recent Irish Life National Juvenile Track and Field championships. The club will be looking for support for its Buster fundraiser at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium on August 13th. The day before they will hold a clothes collection with the items collected being sold for cash. STACKS NEWS: Everyone is enjoying the camp that took place during the week. There was also great excitement for the Rock All Stars who took part in the first Cul Camp in Kerry that was held for children with a diagnosis. The young footballers were in action on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so well done to all those who helped in any way to make this happen. Don’t forget the Rock All Stars will be back on the Connolly Park pitch this Sunday morning at 10am. The underage academies continue at their usual times and the Go Games also continue. In the Central League the Amber team defeated Laune Rangers and play Na Gaeil next. In the 15’s Division 1 the boys defeated Ballymac in the Central League semi-final. They will play Laune Rangers in the final. The Division 5 lost out to Castleisland Desmonds in their semi-final. At senior level the Seniors take on Templenoe in the Legion on Saturday evening at 7pm. The minors had a 3-11 to 1-06 win over St Kierans. In the Lotto there was no winner of the jackpot from the numbers drawn 8,10, 11 and 26. The next jackpot will be e2900. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The club is very proud of the efforts of the Kerry Ladies and especially Declan Quill who is a coach with the u9 boys alongside his Inter County duties. In the Senior Club championship the seniors will take on Dr Crokes at Desmonds on Sunday at 1pm. The club had a huge crowd of supporters in Croke Park on Sunday cheering on the Kerry Ladies. The club is very proud of all those who were involved in the Lidl’s One Good Club 10 week initiative and it was great to see Frank O’Connor collect the plaque on the pitch at half time last Sunday. The week before Alison Hoffman, grand-daughter of the clubs late Chair Pat Healy, was a flag bearer in Croke Park. The u10 girls are looking forward to the North Kerry Ladies hosted Blitz this Saturday sponsored by Terry’s Butchers, Oakpark and in aid of Breast Cancer
Research. The u12’s will take part in the Naomh Aban Blitz in Ballyvourney on August 20th. The u13’s are due to play this weekend in their Championship quarterfinal while the 14’s Girls are in North Kerry League action. The minors are into the Division 3 County League final against Scartaglin having beaten Castleisland Desmonds in their semi-final. The club held a very successful Camp over the past week. Well done to the coaches and volunteers, the parents and most importantly the players who enjoyed the week. Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 8, 10, 11, 20. ST PATS NEWS There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 11,15,21 and 24 and the next jackpot will be e2500. Members who have not yet paid their registration are asked to do so as soon as possible. The Juvenile Academy are on a break for two weeks. The u11 Boys were in Pairc Ui Chaoimh for the Munster Go Games and they really enjoyed the experience including a stadium tour by Cork footballer Rory McGuire. The u11’s Regionals are due to get underway this week. The u13’s have two combined teams, with Kerins O’Rahillys, for the upcoming Central Region competitions. The club had minors on the St Brendan’s side but they lost out to North Kerry and will have played Rathmore in midweek. The seniors took on Churchill in the Kerry Petroleum Junior Premier Club Competition in horrible conditions. The game ended in an 0-08 to 0-08 point draw. BALLYMAC NEWS: The Seniors defeated Ardfert 0-11 to 0-07 in the Junior Premier Championship played at John Mitchels. The Academy will train as normal this Sunday while many of the underage teams are in action in various competitions. There was no winner of the Lotto fro9m the numbers drawn 6, 14, 26 and 27. The jackpot is now e2750. BRAGGING RIGHTS FOR JOE FOLLOWING LEAGUE WIN: Joe Roche will be riding the rest of the season with a big smile as he has taken the top prize in the Tralee Manor West BC League. Coming into the last of the 6 rounds only a single point separated Joe Roche and Vincent O’Leary. Vincent took third and Joe fourth to see them tied on 21 points. It went to the times with Joe being declared the winner. IN THE WATER: This Sunday it’s the second of the Tralee Bay on Tour with a swim in Lough Hyde. The Blennerville to Fenit Swim is scheduled for the weekend of August 13th /14th depending on the weather. Round 6 of the Summer Series is on Sunday August 21st at 4pm. KINGDOM SWIMMING CLUB: KSC WAS DELIGHTED TO WELCOME Carlo Boni – Regional Pathway Development Coach Muster –to our club where he hosted a number of Skills Development workshops this week. Swimmers from all Munster attended Club members Zala O’Connor, Lily Mae O’Gara, Lauren Mason and Rachel Barry are heading to Coventry next week as part of the Kerry team taking part in the 2022 International Children’s Games( ICG) . The swimmers will participate in a number of individual and relay events ,under Head Coach Ger McDonnell.

WHEELBLASTER NIAMH TURNS TO POWERLIFTING: With the Wheelblasters season over until September one of their members is not taking is easy for the summer. Niamh Buckley is preparing for the Para European weightlifting championships and as part of her preparation she was in action in Cork at the weekend lifting a new PB of 70kg. TWO OUT OF THREE ON THE LOI FRONT: In the League of Ireland the 19’s defeated Bray Wanderers 4-0 and the 17’s saw off Sligo Rovers 2-1. The 14’s were unlucky to go down 2-0 to Waterford. On Saturday the 17’s travel to Drogheda and are at home on Tuesday night, August 9th when they take on Waterford. On Sunday the 19’s are away to Longford. CALL UP FOR SAMUEL: Kerry 19’s player Samuel Aladesanusi was in with the Irish u19’s last week for their 3 Day camp in Loughborough, England ahead of the UEFA qualifiers next month. PARK IN GALWAY: The St Brendan’s Park 12’s team are in Galway Cup tournament action this week with the finals set for tomorrow, Saturday. IN THE RING: The Tralee Boxing Club were delighted that all the 60 young boxers enjoyed the Summer Camp and went the distance. The club was delighted to have 12 young Ukrainian boxers in the camp part funded by the Government. Well done to all involved. The Tralee Boxing Club, located at Unit 5 Monavalley holds regular weekly classes for adults and children at various times from early morning. Contact the club for details. ON THE GREENS: PITCH & PUTT Listowel Celtic won their first Kerry InterClub Matchplay title since 2003. Now named in memory of Tim Scannell they defeated Tralee (Tim’s club) 5-4 after a cracking final. The trophy was presented to Listowel by Tim’s mother Maureen, his sister Lorraine and his nephews. In the Listowel Scratch Cup Tralee’s Jamie Blake, Michael Creagh and Lisa O’Connor won the main prize, the Junior competition and the Ladies 10-21 section respectively. We wish the best of luck to all the Kerry players who are playing in the Munster Inter-County Championships in Dungarvan this weekend.
