Kerry College of Further Education – Giving Back to the Community! Kerry College of Further Education (KCFE), of Kerry Education and Training Board, at all times strives to foster a culture of "caring and support" within their student body and this was certainly evident during the last academic year with their launch of the "KCFE - Kerry College Fundraising Events". This initiative which evolved through KCFE's

Student Council body saw a variety of unusual and collaborative fundraising events being organised to support local charities within the community. This week saw the proceeds of the year’s events being donated to a number of Charities by Principal, Mary Lucey, along with Student Council members. The

Charities who received the donations were St Vincent De Paul; Jigsaw and Tralee Soup Kitchen, Tralee. "The students are wonderful ambassadors for the College and demonstrated initiative, enthusiasm, determination and ability to collaborate to get these events organised and funds raised. It is very apt that all the student groups

nominated local charities and organisations to receive the funding raised and it is a wonderful way of "giving back" to the local community. Kerry College look forward to welcoming our new September intake of students to continue and expand the Kerry College Fundraising Events initiative.”

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE.. Summer Camp time with Jackie O Mahony! You know its summer when the different types of Summer camps start popping up all

over the place ...yet quite a few of them can be a little repetitive ! This is not the case in early August when well known creative choreographer/producer/perfrormer/singer and Arts School owner Jackie O Mahoney holds her Tralee Musical Theatre Summer Camp in Holy Family School . Says Jackie "It will be on as usual for 5 mornings from Tues Aug 6th to Sat Aug 10th ,10am -1pm and will be full of Dance , Songs , Drama , Arts & Crafts and an extra feature are the Drumming workshops and is open to young girls and boys who are interested in enjoying a great week . We will end the week with a Showcase on Saturday .Its all being held in a safe secure environment and is excellent for helping to build the confidence of the children " But you better get your skates on , as the demand is high for this professional fun filled well run camp and Jackie does tend to limit her numbers so that the kids enjoy the week even more ! It costs €65 per child and family discounts are available . Contact Jackie on 087-1303325 for more information or go to her facebook page .

Tristan and Ronan win KCC Short Film Bursary 2019! Kerry County Council’s Short Film Bursary 2019, has been awarded to Writer/Director Tristan Heanue and Producer Ronan Cassidy of “Carbonated Comet Productions”. From a competitive field of sixty submissions, their project,“ Harmless”, was selected as the frontrunner. The film deals with the interactions between an isolated older man living in rural Kerry and a group of joyriders in the area. Tristan describes how he wrote 'Harmless' after a trip

home a couple of years ago. ”I began to notice the amount of boy racers driving around the area at night and all the rubber burnt into the roads. I wanted to look at the problem through the eyes of an older character, someone who this world is alien to and who was struggling with issues of his own. At its core it's a story about two different generations and the inability of each to understand the other until they inevitably collide”. In awarding the bursary,

Arts Officer at Kerry County Council, Kate Kennelly focused on the importance of supporting film making in the county and noted that “Kerry offers huge choice in terms of great film locations throughout the county”. CEO of Kerry County Council, Moira Murrell, emphasised that ”supporting emerging film makers with potential and talent who want to shoot in Kerry is something that Kerry County Council is keen to do”. The Bursary is funded by Kerry County

Horan Centre Store

Council and The Arts Council and supported by Kerry ETB. Mayor of Tralee, Jim Finucane, sees the bursary as “an integral part of building the film sector in the county” Grace O’Donnell, chair of the Kerry International Film Festival is “excited to incorporate a workshop on this essential element of filmmaking during the Festival later this year”.

Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology

Is free antivirus any Good?

Choosing the best free antivirus for your computer can be a daunting task, due to all the criteria you have to take into consideration. You may want a basic security solution for your PC or laptop or a highly advanced protection system for the entire family, capable of protecting not only against viruses, but also against hacker attacks and fraud. The most commonly know free version are AVG AND Avast But in my option you should always go for a paid version due to some limitations of the free versions and due to the lack of comprehensive protection that you get with a paid antivirus. Also the numerous ads that pop up. I personal use Eset Security due to the fact they have a Irish support number. And its widely used in Medical centres.

Recording Box for saorview and Freesat

I think one of the major disappointments of the new Saorview Connect box is the lack of recording facility on the Freesat Channels. I am currently trying out a new box at the moment called, Tiviar Alpha Plus Combo STB when purchased it comes with a basic operation system. So in order for it to work you have to upgrade it to a linux system called openvix . Once this is done you have a full 7-day guide on Saorview and Freesat so you can use this to record your programs every week. So far its been good to record both on satellite and saorview. The only difficultly its been having is recording something like Fair City because its on four times a week. All going well I am hoping to offer this to my customers from the end of August.

Question What is the Public Services Card and how do I get one? Answer The Public Services Card (PSC) helps you to access a range of public services easily. The front of the card holds your name, photograph and signature, along with the card expiry date. The back of the card holds your PPS number and a card number. It also holds a magnetic stripe to enable social welfare payments such as pensions to be collected at post offices. If you are entitled to free travel, the card will also display this information in the top left-hand corner. Your identity is fully authenticated when it is issued so it saves you having to give the same information to multiple organisations. You can use the PSC as evidence of identity when applying for a driving licence or learner permit or if you are sitting the Driver Theory Test. In some cases a PSC is required. For example, all first-time passport applicants aged 18 and above who are resident in Ireland need to have one. All applicants for a certificate of naturalisation aged 18 or over who are resident in the State must have a PSC. A Public Services Card is usually issued when you are allocated a PPS number. If you apply for, or are currently getting a social welfare payment (including Child Benefit) you will be asked to register for your Public Services Card. If you don’t yet have a Public Services Card, you can make an appointment to get one either by using MyWelfare.ie or by calling into your local Intreo Centre or Social Welfare Branch Office. You will need to bring certain documents to prove your identity and a mobile phone that can be used to create a verified account. The process takes about 15 minutes and your PSC is posted out to you and is valid for seven years. You can get more information on the Public Services Card from citizensinformation.ie and learn more about online public services at MyGovID.

John Mitchell sports complex Tralee with a starting time of 10 am. .The tournament, which is run by the north Kerry ladies football board, has been a massive success since it was first initiated in 2013.According to the north Kerry ladies board pro Paul Murphy "the original plan was to play it as a small tournament with 8 teams in a Tralee venue . But due it's success we had to expand the tournament to 16 teams , with a competitive side and fun side as well .There are four trophys up for grabs . Cup -shield- plate and trophy with over 300 girls playing football .Sandra Keane was not only a player but she managed teams and was a loyal supporter to her club KerinsO rahillys until her untimely death in 2007 . The tournament gives girls plenty of games to clubs from north Kerry and east Kerry .It would be great to see lots of parents to come all long on the day to cheer the girls on and enjoy maybe a cup of tea or coffee and have a good chat as well and to honour Sandra Keane "

Teams Taking Part This Year Kerins O Rahillys - John Mitchels - Na Gaeil - Austin Stacks - Ballymac - Castleisland Desmonds - Castlegregory -Dingle/Annascaul - Churchill - Ballyduff - Corca Dhuibhne -Abbeydorney - Killarney Legion - Dr Crokes - Rathmore - Scartaglin 16

Dinner Party Salmon Many people love Salmon, and the taste of Wild Salmon has to be experienced (We don’t use Farmed Salmon in our Croi Restaurant) So here is a show stopper of a whole side of Wild Salmon for a dinner party

WHOLE WILD SALMON FILLET

WITH MUSTARD SAUCE

INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • •

1 1/4 cups extra-virgin olive oil 1 large shallot, thinly sliced 1/4 cup chopped dill Sea salt Freshly ground pepper One 4 1/4-pound salmon fillet with skin 1/2 cup sour cream 1/4 cup whole-grain mustard 1/4 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 2 tablespoons Champagne vinegar

METHOD Step 1 In a bowl, whisk 1 cup of the oil with the shallot and dill; season with salt and pepper. Pour two-thirds of the marinade onto a rimmed baking sheet; add the salmon skin side up. Spread the remaining marinade over the skin. Cover. Refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours. Step 2 Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk the sour cream with the mustard, lemon zest, lemon juice, vinegar and remaining 1/4 cup of oil; season with salt and pepper. Refrigerate the sauce until chilled, about 15 minutes. Step 3 Preheat the grill and position a rack 6 inches from the heat. Scrape the marinade off the salmon and transfer it skin side down to another large rimmed baking sheet. Season with salt and pepper. Grill the salmon for about 12 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer inserted in the thickest part of the fillet registers 75c. Let the salmon rest for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a platter. Serve with the mustard sauce.

Let me know if you enjoyed them and we will continue our healthy eating next week and remember to send your quetions to: askchefnoel@hotmail.com

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE TRUMP SAID... Trump said in his campaign that if I voted for Clinton, I would be stuck with a criminal president under constant federal investigation from day one. Turns out, he was right. I voted for Clinton and I’m stuck with a criminal president under federal investigation from day one.

I TOLD MY SON, “YOU WILL MARRY THE GIRL I CHOOSE.”

He said, “NO!” I told him, “She is Bill Gates’ daughter.” He said, “OK.” I called Bill Gates and said, “I want your daughter to marry my son.” Bill Gates said, “NO.” I told Bill Gates, My son is the CEO of World Bank.” Bill Gates said, “OK.” I called the President of World Bank and asked him to make my son the CEO. He said, “NO.” I told him, “My son is Bill Gates’ son-in-law.” He said, “OK.” This is how politics works.

A MAN WANTS A PET

He walks into a pet shop and says to the owner, “I want to buy a pet, but I don’t want a boring, normal pet. No cats, dogs, or birds, I want something different”. The pet shop owner thinks for a minute, and then tells him that he has a talking centipede. “Really”? the man replied, “How much would this cost”? The owner tells him that the talking centipede is $75. Happy with the unusual offering, the man pays the shop owner and takes his new pet home. Once he got home, he lays centipede on the table, and says, “Hello Mr. Centipede, fancy going to the pub for a few drinks”? The centipede says nothing. Figuring it must be tired from the journey, he decides to leave it for an hour and try again later. An hour later he comes back and says “Hello mr centipede, fancy going to the pub for a few

drinks?” The centipede again says nothing. Starting to get suspicious the man decides he will give it one more hour, and if the centipede doesn’t talk, he will take it back to the shop for a refund. An hour later the man returns and says “Hello mr centipede, fancy going to the pub for a few drinks”? The centipede replies “I heard you the first time! I’m putting my shoes on”!

A SCOTSMAN MOVES TO LONDON

A young man from the Highlands moved to the big city to seek his fortune. After settling in for a couple of weeks, his mum calls him to check in. “How do ye like the city so far, son?” She asked him. “Ma, it’s just the most wonderful place in the world. So much to see and do. But my neighbours are curious folks. The bloke in the flat next door just pounds on the walls all hours of the night. And the woman in the the other flat wails and screams through the night, yelling ‘Make it stop!’” “Oh dearie,” his mum replied. “They sound rather strange. I hope you’re alright at home though.” The young man responds “Aye, ma, I don’t let it get me down when it happens. I just take a nip of me whisky and keep playing me bagpipes.”

A MAN ORDERS COFFEE

A man enters a bar and the bartender comes over and asks “Can I help you sir?”. The man answers “What does a cup of coffee cost in this place?”. The bartender says “That would be €2.60”. “Alright, I’ll have one.” says the client and he takes 26 10c coins out of his wallet and he throws them on the ground. The bartender doesn’t want to make a scene so he just picks up the money and he brings the man his coffee. A week later, the same man enters the bar. He orders a coffee again but this time he pays with a five dollar bill. The bartender smelled an opportunity for revenge and when he brings the coffee, he throws 48 5c coins on the ground as change. The client threw 2 extra 10c coins on the floor and orders a second coffee.

Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!

This week I’ve been so busy organising the Beyond Beauty Workshops. Absolutely flat out! So this week I’m going to not talk about that, but I’m going to talk about my current favourite things, this won’t just be beauty - it’s a bit of everything! FOUNDATION - Too Faced Born This Way - You already know I’ve been absolutely obsessing over this for months. I just love how it makes my skin look and feel. The coverage is perfect, buildable and not too cakey. It has some pretty cool ingredients too… Coconut Water - helps delicately replenish skin's moisture levels without over hydrating. Infused with the resilient Alpine Rose - to brighten the skin's appearance and promote elasticity. Hyaluronic Acid - provides long-lasting, skin-balancing hydration for a smoother, more youthful appearance. I get mine on boots.ie (they do next day delivery into the Tralee store if you order before 12pm)

BOOK - I’m currently reading ‘Feel The Fear & Do It Anyway’ by Susan Jeffers. I feel like this is a book for absolutely anyone, and it’s an easy read which is always good. “You will learn to live your life the way you want…” I’m pretty sure I got my one in Easons in Tralee.

SKINCARE PRODUCT - Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic. I only recently re-introduced this back into my skincare routine and it just really suits my skin. I used it after cleansing as a toner. My skin just glows differently when I use this. Pixi Beauty is available in Boots Tralee. SONG - Sicily by Ivan Nicolas - Ivan is an Irish artist and I’m just obsessing over his new song, Sicily. It’s such a summer vibe.

ACCESSORY - My Victoria Cruz Hoops from John Ross Jewellers. I was kindly gifted these hoops from the girls in John Ross and I’m absolutely obsessed with them. I wear them more or less daily.

BEXBLAH

FITNESS!

HELLO STRONG PEOPLE I hope you are all having a fantastic week! I’m feeling great this week, I’ve been training hard at The Tralee Arena and to be honest, I’m loving it there. It’s just my kind of gym. And that’s what I want to emphasise this week, the importance of doing exercise you like in an environment that you’re comfortable in! There’s so many options when it comes to exercising, classes, weights, boxing, cycling, running, dancing etc. So if you choose one that you genuinely enjoy, it’s better for you. You don’t want to feel like you have to do something that you don’t enjoy - that’s not life! That’s why I love that there’s so so many options in Tralee for all fitness levels and interests. It’s up to you to find what you like and what suits you. This week I signed up to The Tralee Arena’s morning bootcamp. It’s going to run over 4 weeks and consists of 4 weekly 6am classes. 16 classes in total. At 6am. If you know me you know I am not an early bird, but I want to challenge myself a bit and I feel this would be perfect! Of course I’ll be letting you all know how I get on across the weeks. I think it’s good to do something every now and then that is more of a challenge and switches things up, and if getting up at 5am to be in the gym for 6am doesn’t do that - I don’t know what will.

Spring Allergies...

While we all welcome the longer brighter evenings and it may encourage us to enjoy a little time outdoors in the fresh air, unfortunately, it can cause misery for the 15-20% of hayfever suffers in Ireland. Also known as Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis, hayfever is an allergic reaction to airborne substances, such as tree, flower and grass pollen that gets into the upper respiratory passages, nose, sinus, throat and also the eyes. The pollen that enters the bloodstream through the tissue of the throat, lungs and gut, is regarded by our immune systems as foreign and potentially dangerous, so it rushes to defend it, resulting in the release of lots of histamines. Histamine irritates the respiratory passage causing swelling and inflammation that produce typical hayfever symptoms, including itchy watery eyes, a bunged up or runny nose, frequent sneezing and coughing. Many people take anti-histamines and other medications which offer relief, alternatively there are plenty of natural remedies available, which can help to ease the unpleasant symptoms of hayfever. SALT PIPE – can bring wonderful relief for hayfever suffers. It contains micron-sized particles of salt sources from the Praid mines in Romania. When these tiny salt particles are inhaled they penetrate the respiratory system to achieve beneficial effects. Safe for both adults and children, is best used for 15-25minutes daily POLLINOSAN – The anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine action of

this complex usually kicks in within 2030 minutes to ease the uncomfortable hayfever symptoms QUERCITIN – this is an ideal supplement to help combat hayfever symptoms with it’s powerful anti-viral and anti-histamine properties. EUPHRASIA – homeopathic remedy which can help with puffy, watery and streaming eyes. HAY-BAND – Using ancient Chinese principles of acupressure the hayband has been used for centuries to help with the symptoms of allergies including hayfever. It is drug free, fast acting and re-usable. Suitable for adults and children over 3years. Vitamin C also helps as a natural antihistamine, so ensure you are taking 1000mg twice a day to help alleviate hayfever symptoms. Some of my personal recommendations include MACANTA, VIRIDIAN OR SOLO. For advice on ways to alleviate your hayfever symptoms call in to any Horan’s Healthstore. Until next time, stay healthy.

Puck Fair uses "Go fund me" to ensure festival thrives! With just four weeks to go– excitement was building at the festival’s official launch last weekend in Killorglin, Co. Kerry for one of the biggest events on Ireland’s annual social calendar – Puck Fair The launch, which took place on Saturday last (13th July) at Kingston’s Bar in the charming town, kick-started what is set to be a busy month for all involved, with preparations already underway for a mammoth three-day event. Special guests on the night included the newly crowned Queen of Puck Fair, Maeve McCarthy from Cromane Lower in Killorglin, who was joined by her Lady in Waiting, Sian Corkery. Run like clockwork thanks to the dedication of a 22-strong committee of volunteers, Puck Fair is the pride of Killorglin, but for the first time since its inception organisers have felt the need to reach out to the general public for their assistance in making sure the yearly festival takes place as

36

planned. To finance soaring insurance prices and overall running costs of the three-day extravaganza, which offers a jam-packed programme of free events and live entertainment for all ages, the Puck Fair voluntary committee have launched a GoFundMe drive, appealing to members of the public and festival goers to open the purse strings in order to aid the continuation of this long-held Irish tradition. “It got to a point this year where we had to reevaluate our plan of action in terms of funding such a large-scale event with a very modest budget,” said Declan Falvey, Chairman of the Puck Fair committee during the 2019 launch event. “We pride ourselves on providing the public with an event that is free of charge; free entry, free entertainment – you name it. But with running costs rising across the board, we had to come up with a plan B. When the idea of a GoFundMe

Friday 19th July 2019

campaign was suggested it seemed like a no brainer. . If everyone who has enjoyed the festival over the years gave just a few euros towards keeping this cherished tradition going, you can be sure Puck Fair’s story will continue for years to come.” The three-day schedule includes dance workshops, fancy dress competitions, a fun fair, food stalls, street markets and live music throughout the town – not to mention the famous Horse Fair, which takes place on ‘Gathering Day’ and kicks off the popular festival each year. The Coronation Parade and Ceremony on day one will bring people to the town’s centre in their droves, while the stage in Killorglin’s main square will play host each night to well-known national

acts, such as Celtic Knights (10th August), Johnny Brady (11th August) and The Papa Zitas (12th August), who will entertain the crowds well into the night. Now that the launch has arrived, the countdown is officially on, so we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world to our beautiful town next month.”said Declan Falvey, To make a donation to the Puck Fair GoFundMe campaign, visit www. gofundme.com/puck-fair-2019. TORQUING CARS! WHO SAYS DIESEL IS DEAD? PLENTY OF GO IN AUDI'S A4

Even in these days of ubiquitous SUVs, it's important to remember one in five Audis sold is an A4.After four years on the market, the current version has been given a thorough refresh, with new looks, new engines and an interesting performance variant.Recognisable from any angle as an A4, nevertheless, all panels have been changed and the rear now mimics the A6 with tail lights joined by a prominent horizontal line.Inside, there are no dramatic changes although the touch screen is now bigger and the menu structure has been completely redesigned. The control knob between the seats has been removed so you have to use the screen or the new, natural language, voice recognition to control various systems in the car.We started with the new S4 TDi at the launch venue in the Italian Tyrol.Immediately, the car felt cosseting with high quality, supportive leather seats. Hitting the start button revealed an attractive engine note, hinting at the power that lay inside.Dropping the accelerator to the floor, you're met by a substantial shove in the back, courtesy of the 700Nm of torque produced by this 3-litre V6. This compressor is powered by a new 48 volt electrical system, which also supports a hybrid system, said to reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.4 l/100km.With permanent quattro four-wheel-drive, power is put down impressively and there's no sign of understeer or that slight nose heavy feeling that often afflicts fast Audis. It's a seriously impressive car. The Allroad, along with most models in the range, will come with a mild hybrid setup, based on a 12-volt architecture. The Allroad gets a suspension which has been raised by 35mm as well as a wider track to help it deal with difficult terrain. It also gets some body cladding, not in the usual grey but instead some attractive piano black plastic. Audi clearly believe there's life in diesel engines yet because there is a completely new 2-litre diesel on the way with a choice of power outputs.I tried the middle version, which comes with 163bhp and front-wheel-drive as standard. It's a smooth and punchy engine, with plenty of power to break traction, a situation ably dealt with by the traction control system. Almost all models will get an automatic gearbox as standard, with either seven or eight speeds when first customer cars arrive around September.Only the base petrol model will later get the option of a six-speed manual. (Indo motoring , John Galvin)

ELECTRIC MINI IS ON THE WAY

These are first official pictures, details and prices of the new electric Mini. The brand is claiming it is the first small car to run solely on battery electric power in the premium segment.Prices start from €26,890 after the SEAI grant of €5,000 and the VRT rebate of €5,000 have been factored in. That price puts it right in the mix with the likes of the Renault Zoe, for example. You can expect to see it in Irish showrooms next March but, as is increasingly the case these days, the order books are now open for next spring delivery. The announcement also marks something of a milestone in that the brand's first full electric car is being unveiled in the year that the company is celebrating its own 60th birthday. Given the current drive toward electric motoring, the Mini EV's timing is good - and the starting price looks decent. There is also an Irish link: the electric Mini model is being masterminded by young Dundalk man James Redmond. All future Mini electric vehicles will be made at the Oxford plant for global markets. There are some interesting figures among the details of the new EV. For instance, it clips from zero to 60kmh in 3.9 seconds and to 100 kmh in 7.3 seconds, which in a car of this size should feel particularly fast. The electric motor pumps 184hp and 270 Nm of torque (pulling power). The lithiumion battery is capable of going 235 to 270km between charges (WLTP figures). The ultimate range depends on model; the higher level you opt for, the more range you get.Mini says luggage space is not affected by the intrusion of the battery pack and standard equipment includes a new digital dashboard, connected navigation including real-time traffic information (RTTI), LED headlights and tail lights. The new EV can be charged at a household socket, wall-box or public charging stations; fast direct-current charging is possible at up to 50 kW.It should be a great little driver given electric cars' capability to deliver all their pulling power from the getgo - plus the fact it is a Mini with substantial verve built into the chassis anyway. EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES!

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR KERRY’S PERFORMANCE IN KILLARNEY WAS FIRST CLASS: By now people should know that you write off a Kerry footballer at your peril. Yes there were concerns going into the game as to how we would do against Mayo who had won the last two encounters. But no one expect for those in the Kerry camp knew how preparations were going until just before throwin. The Kerry players must have been bouncing off the walls in the dressing room and they showed from the minute they entered the field that they were not going to be pushed around again this time. But all this ‘handbag’s’ before the ball is thrown in can look foolish unless it is backed up. And Kerry certainly backed it up with their best performance of the season. There has been plenty of coverage of the game so there is no need for us to go over it again. But what this performance has done is put Kerry right back in contention as one of the few teams that can challenge Dublin’s 5-in-a-row. However Peter Keane and his backroom team and management will not even have one eye on Dublin. It will be all about Donegal and then Meath. But Kerry are in a very good place going into Sunday’s game and should they win – and I think they will as Croke Park will suit this Kerry side – they are almost guaranteed a semi-final place. RUSSIA WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR ALL: The Tralee international Children’s Games teams returned to Tralee on Monday last after a wonderful experience of Moscow and Ufa and the 53rd International Children’s Games. By general consensus the Games were exceptionally well organized in Ufa, where the facilities were superb for all events and included a newly built Swimming and Athletic Complex especially for the Games. The Tralee athletes performed to the high standards of which they are capable, and while no medals were brought home from Russia, the experience of this level of competition will stand to the athletes going forward. They departed Dublin on the 6th for a late night flight to Moscow arriving in at 5am local time. With two days in the Russian capital the players, officials and supporters

44

used the time to see the sights. Amongst the areas that will live long in the memory were Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum, Gorki Park and St Basil’s Cathedral. But also what was noted was the cleanliness of the city and how friendly the people were. It was hard to escape the city’s history and the guide showed them the underground which was used as hospitals and bomb shelters during WW2. On Tuesday the party headed to Ufa which is 4 hours ahead of Tralee time and settled quickly into their accommodation. It is always a source of pride to see a team from Tralee representing Ireland enter the Arena at this International Sporting and Cultural event. In the individual sports Melissa Ahern finished an excellent 6th, Alison Butler and Lisa Carmody ran well in tough heats and just missed out on semi-finals. Bobby Byrne experienced the down side of sport in the 100. He was running a great race until he suffered a serious tendon tear and we all wish him a speedy recovery. Aine O’Shea also had a good shot putt tournament. The soccer team, with players who were a year younger than some of their opponents, were in contention in all games just losing out late on in games played in very hot conditions. It was a great experience for the squad and management with many having a summer to remember as they headed to Russia after taking part in the Kennedy Cup. In Judo all 4 fought very well against tough opponents and competing at this level will certainly be of huge benefit for them going forward. Tralee ICG wish to express their appreciation to all coachesDearbhail Foley, Robin O Day, John Byrne, and Danny Roche, to the Head of Delegation Paula Henry, to all the supporters who travelled to Russia to support the children, and to everyone who helped make participation possible for these young athletes at this year’s International Children’s Games. LATE WIN FOR KERRY LEAGUE OF IRELAND 13’S: Kerry once again had four teams in League of Ireland action and the 13’s led the way with a late late 3-2 win at home to Waterford. The visitors came back twice to level matters but Stephen Gannon got a last minute winner to see Kerry move onto 7 points from their 3 games played in Phase 2. They will be at home to Cobh Ramblers in a game they will again be targeting the three points. The 15’s got their Friday 19th July 2019

first point in Phase 2 and were unlucky not to take all three as they had a ball cleared off (or from behind) the line with the last kick of the game also against Waterford. They got to Galway this Sunday. The u17’s and u19’s both went down away to Bray Wanderers with the 17’s unlucky to go down 3-2. Both of these teams face another tough trip to Dublin this Saturday when they take on Shamrock Rovers. TRALEE TOWN BOARD: The Tralee Town Board congratulates all the Kerry teams who have done the county so proud over the last couple of weeks and is especially delighted for Town Board players. The Town Board Executive have agreed the following dates: Lee Strand Roddy O’Donnell Memorial Trophy Senior Football Championship semi-finals: these are to be played on the weekend August 17th and 18th with the final to be played on the following weekend. The semi-finals see Ballymac playing John Mitchels and Austin Stacks facing Kerins O’Rahillys. The time and venues for the semi-finals have yet to be confirmed. In the Munster Chimney Solutions Minor Final Division 2 Ardfert will face Churchill on Friday August 2nd. The Munster Chimney Solutions Super 9 Junior League will see panels of 12 playing one game a week in a 9-a-side format of 20 minutes a half. These will begin on Wednesday July 24th and continue each Wednesday. The Kellihers Mills under 13 League will begin on Thursday August 1st while the Rose Cup for u13’s will take place in Na Gaeil and Healy Park on August 24th with the final in Healy Park. PARNELL’S NEWS: The under 17 and over 17 panels enjoyed their second day out in the series of Round 2 games of the Munster Club 7’s Summer Series that took place in Mallow. They face a busy time with a trip to Clare on August 2nd to visit Kilkee Bealatha Camogie Club. The bus will leave Tralee at 5pm. In the Intermediate section of the club there was disappointment in the County League. In the Intermediate Championship the team will be away to Ladies Walk in the ¼ finals. The dates and venues for the quarter finals have yet to be announced. What every club wants to see players moving up the levels and it was great to see that Aidan Healy and Beano Donovan have moved to the club’s senior county squad. This allows other players to get a run-out with the Intermediate team. Under 12’s – there was a cracking game in the u12 County League Division 1 Phase 2. The Tralee boys were 6 points down late on but fought back to win by 3 points 3-08 to 3-05. As one of our volunteer mentors who togs out with our adult players commented; What a game of hurling it was.

“I watched the game with senior player Paul Daly and he said every senior player should have watch this game the commitment, the work rate and team work of the young lads, the skills on show were unreal. A real Credit to all involved well done to players and management on a fantastic win.” There was disappointment that the Division 3 game between the same two sides was called off. Clubs will be competing for the inaugural u16 and Minor County Camogie Leagues starting in late August. ST PATS NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 2,8,14 and 16 and the next jackpot will be e6,800 with the draw in Keane’s Bar on Sunday night. The u6’s are now on their summer break after a great fun day. The successful u14 girls team were on hand with the County League trophy and medals. The day ended with some treats including Colivet’s for crips etc. The Academy will be back on August 11th. The u8’s put in another very enjoyable session with Killian Enright being named as the Player of the Week. They are also on the summer break and will be back on Sunday August 11th. Many of these players will take part in the Kelloggs Cul Camp that will take place from Monday August 5th to Friday 11th. Bookings are still open for the Cul Camp. The u10’s hosted Tarbert for a challenge at home in their last day before the summer break. The u14 girls also attended this game and senior team player Kieran Dwyer reffed the game. They will also be back on August 11th. The Juniors are set to face Milltown/Castlemaine this Friday in Round 5 Group 3 of the League. The game will be at home throwing in at 7.30pm. In Division 3 Round 8 of the Credit Union County League it ended St Pats 3-12 to Gneeveguillas 3-11 and this is a huge step towards securing the Division 3 status. The next match is away to Listowel Emmets in Round 9. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: In the Credit Union County League Division 1 Round 8 the senior team lost out by the narrowest of margins to the Legion 2-12 to 1-13. This win by the Killarney side has really tightened up the Division. This Saturday they will face Spa Killarney who lost out to Rathmore in their last Round. The teamare just one point off second place and with Spa on the same mark this is another vital encounter. The B team were well beaten by Beale, in Division 5 of their League. They are due to play Tousist away this Saturday at 7.30pm. Girls – the u10 girls enjoyed their Go Games outings while the u12’s added the Division 3 North Kerry Plate to their recent County League title. They beat Duagh 5-11 to 4-05. The u12’s were in Blitz action this week while the u13 Development side wont train this week due to the Sandra Keane Tournament in Mitchels. The u14 to u17 training continues

There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 11,13,22 and 28 CATHAL TAKES PENULTIMATE TIME TRIAL LEAGUE ROUND: With four of the five rounds of the Kerry Time Trial League counting towards the overall results this penultimate round was an important one for a number of the

riders. In the end it was the vastly experienced Cathal Moynihan, Tralee BC, who clocked the fastest time of 27.19.1. Next on the times sheers was Mike O’Shea (Killorglin) who was also the fastest M40 rider in 27.41.1 while Jerry McCarthy continued his good League form taking third and being the fastest M50 rider. Barry Fitzgerald of Killorglin finished just behind Tom Gentleman and took the Non Aero category. With one round to go the League table shows Jerry McCarthy leading the way on 24 points followed by Mike O’Shea and Cathal Moynihan on 22 points each. But with 12 points for a win there are still 10 riders that could mathematically take the League title. Junior Tour: There were a number of Kerry riders who did very well in the highly competitive 6 day 540km Junior Tour of Ireland covering 540km. UNDERAGE BASKETBALL SQUADS IN ACTION ON THE CONTINENT: With South Kerry’s Siofra O’Shea in the squad and Brosna’s Tom O’Connor coaching the side the girls made a great start to the 2019 FIBA U18 European Championships Division B in Skopje, Macedonia. PITCH AND PUTT NOTES: While Deerpark’s Damien Fleming, Ireland’s number 1 ranked Men’s player, winning run came to an end at the weekend it has been a great season for the player. But he was unable to defend his National Senior Gents Strokplay title to his list of honours. He started well and was one clear, on 20 under, of Dublin’s John Ross Crangle after two rounds. Tralee’s Jason O’Regan played very well in make in the Top 18 on 12 under par. In the end Damien had to settle for 6th place finishing on 21 under. Jason O’Regans fine weekend aw him end on 17 under and heartbreakingly miss out on the Nett prize on count back. Crangle took the win on 27 under followed by Brian Delaney from Cork and Louth’s Sean Goggin.
