Tralee Advertiser asked Mark Leen this week for some special words about Miriam Murphy Miriam Murphy has died at the age of 48. When I got the news, within seconds my eyes burned and my heart sunk. She was our Queen, and in a town where the musicians and singers dazzle, she out shone all of us. She was the greatest voice Kerry has ever produced, male or female, and the greatest Irish Soprano for 100 years according to Veronica Dunne. Sadly, taken in the prime of her life at the age of 48, she has left an amazing legacy. Miriam established herself in her short life as one of the country’s most acclaimed dramatic sopranos. Having studied under Veronica Dunne in Dublin, she took first prize at the inaugural Seattle International Wagner Competition and subsequently performed in the Seattle Opera’s acclaimed Ring cycle. She would go on to make her Royal Opera House debut as Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s “Macbeth” and would perform
at the Opéra national de Paris, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Seattle Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, ABAO Bilbao Opera, and Opéra de Lille. Miriam made history in 2012 when she sang Isolde in the first Irish performance in 62 years of Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde” for Wide Open Opera in Dublin. Aidan O’Carroll put it succinctly in an interview on radio Monday morning “She is the only Irish singer, ever on record, able to sing the role of Isolde and that alone puts her in the history books” Of course the ordinary folk of Tralee who don’t frequent the Opera, will know of Miriam from her generous giving of her time and talent at Christmas at the Masses at St Brendan’s and The Holy Cross Dominicans. The reason she did both is because her mother Maire attended Mass at both churches. ‘Oh Holy Night ‘was
a show stopper, the church erupted into spontaneous applause in towering appreciation of our world renowned star and her obvious gift. It will be touched with sadness come this Christmas at the Holy Communion where she would normally step up gracefully and sing it, but alas she is not there… Let us treasure the memory. She gave her time to charity, she and I performed a concert together along with the Kerry Choral Union in 2015 at St John’s Church and over 1500 people were in attendance to hear the music in aid of Pieta House. Her voice was quite simply a phenomenon. It kept giving and giving with seemingly endless reserves of power, strength, musicality and finesse. Miriam had the unique capability of totally captivating an audience as if she owned everybody in the hall. You would not hear a pin drop
when she sang. Her ability to cast a spell and command attention was unparalleled. It’s hard to believe that we will not hear Miriam’s magnificent voice soaring above a symphony orchestra once again. Her unique ability to cast a spell on an audience is gone with her. It’s heartbreaking to realize that we won’t hear that laugh anymore or enjoy the company of a true friend. Just 4 weeks before her death I sent her this poem which I wrote, I attach her response to the poem at the bottom, it was the last I ever heard from her. May she rest in peace... Mark Leen
SWEET MIRIAM As the sounds of life I hath witnessed From Thunder to the cricketing field In my years tis no more they are normal As once my ear need must yield In the silence of a clock ticking kitchen Too tired of electrical mire My mind drifts onto a darkened stage and a voice which I never could tire I close my eyes and I hear her Sing pitch perfect note without pause Gliding through those aria To ovation and thunderous applause Her heart seems bursting or floating On the songs she sets off to flight I had ne’r known an instrument throating With such shrill o’er sensory delight And she smiles into the front row Where I sit aghast at her flame Sweet Miriam yes Miriam keep singing There is music to me in your name To the church I must go on a Sunday Where heaven is opened above And there in the loft’s a soprano Offering her gift back with love And those in the Christmas congregation Know only too well as they pray They’ll be transported across to Vienna As by magic on our holiest day All around many hundreds of tables As the Christmas bells rang and they rang We cooks are quietly contented Having heard the Angel that sang. Then I open my eyes in that kitchen And like the Swallows that return once a year May God grant you health dearest Miriam Until you come back to us here. Mark Miriam’s response; “Dear Mark, how wonderful, thank you for this touching poem, I love it and will treasure it. I hope we can all gather again this Christmas to celebrate xxx “ Friday 17th July 2020

Mizzoni’s get the ‘Wagon Wheel‘ dough ready! In 1959, Antonio Mizzoni brought his family to Dublin from the Italian village of Casalattico. He was far from the only Italian to make that journey: famous Irish-Italian families the Fuscos, Cafollas, Morellis and Macaris all come from the same small corner of Italy, halfway between Rome and Naples. The village even has an Irish festival every summer to celebrate the connection. Like many of the other Casalattico families, the Mizzonis worked in and then ran a series of chippers, but it wasn’t until the early 1970s that pizzas came into the equation. That’s when Antonio decided to try out his favourite delicacy on his customers, setting up a pizzeria next door to the Amalfi chipper that he ran on the Rathgar Road. When Antonio’s son Aurelio was a teenager, his first job
was to make pizzas in the shop. “It didn’t go too well!” says Aurelio of Dublin’s first pizzeria. “Nobody had a clue what a pizza was in Dublin. People were like, ‘What the hell is that?!’. You’d try to explain to them: ‘It’s an open pie’.”Nowadays with over 37 Mizzoni shops all over Ireland ,he says that “it’s the nearest thing you can get” to a genuine Italian pizza in Ireland.“We’re still using the same pizza sauce recipe that my father brought over from Italy,” he says, “and we’re still using the same dough recipe he brought over. Mizzoni’s opened in Tralee at the Horan centre in late March , just when Ireland was going into lockdown , but their takeaway pizzas have been flying out the door since then .”Our most popular Pizza has to be our Wagon Wheel , its probably the biggest pizza around “ says Paulina from

Chamber moves to support Aquadome Here is a statement from Tralee Chamber Alliance released this week in support of the Aquadome who announced they will remain closed until Easter 2021 “Following the anticipated announcement from the Aqua Dome that they will remain closed for the remainder of the year and will remain so until Easter 2021, we are calling on support to be provided for this vital tourism product for the region. First opened 25 years,
the Aquadome is a critical employer and support to the entire tourism industry in the county. If adequate aid is not put in place to support its immediate reopening, then at a minimum investment must now be allocated to refresh the Aquadome and add new attractions to the facility so that it can relaunch successfully in 2021 In the coming days we will be writing to all stakeholders in support of the facility, highlighting its critical role to the sector and the region.” Declan Sheehan, Dawn Milk celebrating with Jane & Pat Casey, Cromane Lower, Killorglin, Co. Rockies launch Bracker 100km walk fundraiser! The launch of the Bracker 100km fundraising walk took place, on Monday evening, 13th July at the Bracker monument which is situated on the Bracker O’Regan Road, Tralee (link road between Monavalley and Mounthawk.) The event was launched by Austin Stacks and Kerry football legend, Mikey Sheehy. A sizeable contingent of Martin ‘Bracker’ O’Regan’s family were present for the occasion. The monument and those present were blessed by Fr. Padraig Walsh PP of Our Lady and St. Brendan’s Church. Billy Ryle, Austin Stacks Chairman, performed the introduction; Mikey Sheehy also spoke following his cutting of the commemorative ribbon, with Martin O’Regan responding on behalf of the O’Regan family. Both Mikey and Martin recounted some football stories about the legendary Bracker.
The event was organized by Billy Ryle to launch his forthcoming 100km walk along the Bracker O’Regan Road from Friday 17th July to Sunday 26th July. He will walk two sessions a day on the path, beginning and ending at the Bracker monument – a 6km walk at 10 am and a 4km walk at 3pm. Walkers are welcome to join in any of the sessions while observing social distancing regulations. The main objective is to raise €25,000 for urgently needed repair and upgrading work at the Austin Stacks playing pitches in Connolly Park, Tralee. Like all GAA clubs, Austin Stacks has suffered financially from the Covid-19 pandemic. The Bracker 100km is a worldwide online fundraiser to pay for a path behind the main pitch. The new path will prevent footfall damage on the pitches
and will facilitate disability access to the far terrace in Connolly Park. The second objective of the 100km walk is to reclaim the official name “Bracker O’Regan Road” for the O’Regan family and Austin Stacks Hurling & Football Club.
The Imperial Hotel has a big welcome waiting for you!
All donations, large or small, will be gratefully accepted through the online fundraiser. Links can be found at: www.gofundme.com/f/thebracker-100km or https:// gf.me/u/yfh3gj

group visitors do not get to see nor hear about – the real Kerry. It’s the fruit of many years of research, exploration and passion for the county we call home and we are very excited to share it!” Commented Grace O’Donnell, co-founder of Hidden Kerry. She added, “These are challenging times to start a new venture, but we have taken all the necessary steps to ensure that Hidden Kerry and its walking tour partners operate in compliance with the government’s latest health

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2020
JUST A BIG THANK YOU FROM ME!
Thank you all so so very much ! Usually I put a recipe in every week and if the good people, Chris & Colette , at the Tralee Advertiser will allow me for the second time in three weeks, it is not a recipe this week but this time a thank you to everyone! First to all , a thank you to all those who contacted me or the restaurant in the last few days. Why ? over my refusal to allow American tourists who didn’t abide by the 14 day quarantine rule .Folks , the response has been jaw-dropping.... support I did not expect! The calls, emails and social media backing has been humbling and heartfelt, truly truly heartfelt by me .Sometimes you think you are doing something and are very much alone in what you are doing even if you believe you are right . Well I stand very much with amazing people. I have stood by what I believe and what I thought was right. And I would again! Secondly to our front-line staff, there are no words for my gratitude for what you have done, and we hope you never again have to face it again... Ever! , Ye have all been a beacon for good and a light in this darkness we have faced . We owe ye so much that we can never repay with simple words so with bended knee and hand on my heart I say mo chroí do chroí! And to you , the reader of my weekly page in The Tralee Advertiser ... for all you have forgone, gave up and attempted to do , It is only together that we can get by and through this time in all our lives . Thank you all

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING WEEKLY CLINICS IN KERINS O’RAHILLY’s, Tralee
MY WEEKLY CLINC WILL RESUME EVERY THURDAY AT 2.30PM This is always a busy clinic, so social distancing rules must apply. The waiting area will be organised and there will be assistance and advice provided as to how the clinic will operate. I am sorry in advance for any inconvenience this will cause, but I will do my best to ensure people’s issues are dealt with in a respectful and private manner as always. I also want to take this opportunity to wish all the businesses in Tralee and surrounding areas every good wish on their re-opening after the recent Covid-19 crisis. This has been a difficult journey and unfortunately families have been severely affected through death, illness and of course financial crisis.

Beauty
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE I hope you’re all having an amazing week. This week I’m going to be talking about products I have been using on my skin that have improved my blackheads, pore size and overall skin texture. I myself have combination, sensitive acne prone skin, and these products have worked amazingly for me.
DERMALOGICA DAILY MICROFOLIANT
GOOD MOLECULES NIACINAMIDE SERUM
This stuff is honestly magic. It has helped my skin so so much, I use it everyday in the mornings or evenings and since I have started using it I have seen a huge difference in my skin. It removes dulling surface debris and evens skin tone. Reveals brighter, smoother skin,
A new brand that is so affordable, ethically sourced and cruelty free. The Good Molecules Niacinamide serum has helped with blackheads and pores., niacinamide is clinically proven to improve the look of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone and texture, and dullness. Niacinamide also helps to strengthen the skin’s barrier function and reduce moisture loss for a healthy, hydrated complexion. The lightweight, water-based formula layers seamlessly under skincare and makeup, making it ideal for daily use
and is gentle enough for daily use.
SAND AND SKY AUSTRALIAN PINK CLAY MASK
I used this facemask for years and hadn;t used it in about 9 months before i reintroduced it in January. The secret ingredient, Australian pink clay, is the real star of the show here – it draws out impurities, toxins and pollutants from the skin unlike anything else, refining pores and deeply cleansing as it goes. To invigorate skin and brighten further, organic liquorice and old man’s weed help to regenerate skin cells and stimulate cell production, gently removing pigmentation clusters from the skin’s surface. To continue this refining action, organic pomegranate and aloe vera tighten pores and soothe, stimulating collagen production for long-term firming. Brilliantly brightening, the pink clay is also complemented by kakadu plum and organic mangosteen to guard against free radical damage and create a defensive shield to deflect harmful pollutants. Impaired by absolutely nothing and suitable even for sensitive skin types – no nasties nor animal testing here! – this luscious, naturally powered clay mask instantly boosts radiance, leaving you with a clearer complexion and an unbelievable, youthful glow.
SAND AND SKY FLASH PERFECTION EXFOLIATOR
This is my once a week exfoliating treatment. I put it on and leave it for 5 minutes before washing it off, you can massage it into your skin for 30 secs if your skin is less sensitive. It absorbs excess oil and resurfaces the skin. It’s rich in AHA’s and is full of antioxidant rich oils such as rosehip, grapeseed and olive. It also has none of the nasties, no sulfates, silicones, parabens or plthalates. Friday 17th July 2020

FITNESS!
Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read
Hello my strong friends I hope you’re all having a fantastic week.
Two weeks ago I did an insane leg day with Brendan in The Tralee Arena… I struggled to walk for a few days. It was tough. So this week I said I’d talk about the best ways to recover after a leg day. I’ve been training in The Arena since it re-opened and I feel so so good being back working out in the gym. Your after-exercise recovery routine has a big impact on your fitness gains and performance and allows you to train much more effectively. REPLACE LOST FLUIDS You lose a lot of fluid during exercise and ideally, you should be replacing it during exercise. Drinking water after exercise is an easy way to boost your recovery. Water supports every metabolic function and nutrient transfer in the body and having plenty of water will improve every bodily function. REST Time is one of the best ways to
Rebecca Friday 17th July 2020
recover (or heal) from a hard workout. Your body has an amazing capacity to take care of itself if you allow it some time. Resting after a hard workout allows the repair and recovery process to happen at a natural pace. STRETCH After a tough workout, consider gentle stretching. This is a simple and fast way to help your muscles recover. SLEEP While you sleep, amazing things are taking place in your body. Good quality sleep is essential for anyone who exercises regularly. During sleep, your body produces Growth Hormone which is largely responsible for tissue growth and repair.
AVOID EXCESS TRAINING One simple way to recover faster is by designing a smart workout routine in the first place. Excessive exercise, heavy training at every session or a lack of rest days will limit your fitness gains from exercise and undermine your recovery efforts.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !
ONE DAY A MAN HEARS THAT A DISTANT UNCLE PASSED AWAY
He’s a little sad, but only a little, for they barely knew each other. Then, a few days later, a package arrives. It contains his inheritance from the estate: A violin and a painting. He has no idea what to do with them. After pondering the matter, he takes them to an appraiser. Not too long later the appraiser calls him: “I’ve finished my analysis, and I’ve got some good news. There’s no doubt at all that what you have is a genuine Van Gogh and a genuine Stradivarius.” The man is ecstatic: “I can sell these for millions!” The appraiser says “Well, you can sell them, and they’ll fetch some money for their novelty value. But not millions. You see, the truth is, Stradivarius wasn’t much of a painter... and Van Gogh made lousy violins.”
TWO MEN AND A DOG SITTING OUT ON THE PORCH.
The dog is licking itself. One man says to the other, “I wish I could do that!” He responds “he’ll bite you.”
A GUY GOES TO THE DOCTOR.
A guy goes to the doctor. “Doc, I can’t stop singing ‘The green, green grass of home.’” “That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome.” “Is it common?” “It’s not unusual.”
A VERY RICH, MATERIALISTIC MAN IS SITTING AND THINKING.
He has many luxurious things - everything inside and out, huge mansion, massive watch collection, extensive antique display, and most importantly, a gallery of luxury cars.
He, in high spirits, decides to add to his car collection and buys a brand new Lamborghini Huracan. Then, he spends the next 2 hours driving around, showing off his car, and waving to pedestrians. Nearing the end of his day, he parks in a restaurant parking lot and gets out but suddenly another car slides into the space next to him and rips the door clean off! The man, infuriated, yells in anger and whips out his phone and dials 911. He yells at the dispatcher saying, “This man just ripped the door clean off my new Lambo! I demand you send an officer! Arrest him! The dispatcher replies, “sir, um, this kind of issue doesn’t deserve a 911 call—” “No! I paid very good money for this car and I demand you send an officer at this instant!” “Alright sir, he’s on his way.” When the officer arrives, the rich man is already all up in the officers face, exclaiming how this ignorant man destroyed his new car. The officer yells back, “You disgust me! Your materialistic traits have kept you from realizing that not only did the door get torn off the car, but so did your arm!” The man looks down at his arm and exclaims, “Oh no, my Rolex!!”
CURE FOR A BAD TEMPER.
A woman goes to the Doctor, worried about her husband ‘s temper. The Doctor asks: “What’s the problem? The woman says: “Doctor, I don’t know what to do. Every day my husband seems to lose his temper for no reason. It scares me.” The Doctor says: “I have a cure for that. When it seems that your husband is getting angry, just take a glass of water and start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish but don’t swallow it until he either leaves the room or calms down.” Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn. The woman says: “Doctor that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband started losing it, I swished with water. I swished and swished, and he calmed right down! How does a glass of water do that?” The Doctor says: “The water itself does nothing. It’s keeping your mouth shut that does the trick”.

T RQU ING CARS! 30 O PREMIUM ADVERTISING VW BEACH CAMPER LEADS THE SURGE FOR STAYCATIONS
IT’S a staycation summer for most of us - and it looks like an increasing number of families are planning an Irish holiday on the move this year. Not only are more of them taking to the road in a different sort of vehicle, they are going to live and sleep in it as well.It appears from new figures that record numbers are buying camper vans to provide both transport and accommodation as they try to make the best of this restricted foreign travel season. A good measure of how popular these chalets-on-wheels campers have become can be gauged from the fact that there has been a 500pc increase in sales of Volkswagen’s famous California models, for example. Coincidentally the number of options has expanded this year with the arrival of a new entry-level version - called the VW Beach. It is designed to set a new range entry-point price for this year’s rapidly-expanding market. For your €55,905 Beach you get room to sleep four in comfort, seat five when travelling, a mini kitchen with gas cooking plate, a second battery, swivel seats in front, a 230v charging element for vehicle batteries and a 230-v outlet in the interior. There’s a tried-and-tested 2-litre diesel engine (150bhp) under the bonnet so fuel consumption should not be a major concern.Volkswagen say they have been “amazed” by the 500pc increase in camper sales. They had to order more from the factory to meet demand. The brand’s Commercial Vehicles MD Alan Bateson says the high level of buying is down to so many people opting to stay in Ireland for their holidays. He also pointed out that the likes of the Beach camper is a “usable everyday” vehicle which costs around the same as an executive saloon. (Indo Motoring )
MOTORING QUERIES WITH HONEST JOHN AUDI A8 VS VOLKSWAGEN PHAETON - WHICH IS BETTER?
I am thinking of buying an Audi A8 or Volkswagen phaeton as a retirement present for myself. I would be buying a 2011, 2012 or 2013 model. I plan to keep it for three years before moving it on. Which would be a better buy? D.S . H.J. says The Phaeton offers very good value for money as many people don’t know what it is and would prefer a premium badge. That said, the Audi will probably be easier to sell on when you’re done with it. We’d recommend looking at both and buying the best one of either you can find. Be prepared for high running costs, though - it might be worth getting some servicing quotes first.
SHOULD I BUY A PETROL, DIESEL OR ELECTRIC CAR IN 2020?
The lease on my Mercedes-Benz GLC is up soon and since it’s the most comfortable car I’ve had in 50 years of motoring I’m tempted to buy it at €29,000 with only 30,000 miles on the clock. However in normal times it would still be worth something in another three years time, but given current views of diesel, would it hold any value? Would I be better looking at a new Jaguar I-Pace, in the hope the batteries will increase distance available within a couple of years? Richard HJ says It depends what you use your car for, really. We wouldn’t recommend changing your GLC for an i-Pace if you cover lots of long motorway journeys. Equally, it might be wise to change your car if you cover lots of short journeys which aren’t suited to a diesel. It’s difficult to say what’s going to happen to residual values for diesel cars but, if anything, the drop in new diesels being bought today might mean there’s more demand for second-hand examples in the future. As a compromise, we’d suggest swapping your GLC for a newer version, perhaps with a petrol engine.
ARE ELECTRIC CARS CHEAPER TO SERVICE THAN PETROL AND DIESELS?...
It is stated that electric cars will be much cheaper to service than petrol/diesel. Is this actually the case? Anonymous HJ says ... It’s certainly cheaper as there are fewer moving parts. There’s no need for an oil change, for example. Nissan UK charges £209 for a minor service on a petrol car, £249 for a diesel or £159 for an EV. A major service is £289 for a petrol, £349 for a diesel, £209 for an EV.

THANKS JACK: The passing of any sporting icon is always sad particularly when that icon is from your sport. However there are some who transcend all sports – in Kerry we think of Paidi O’Se who passing was mourned by fans of all sports and beyond. On the national stage Jack Charlton was held in the same esteem. Even those who have no interest in soccer had great respect for Jack and we have seen this over the last week since his passing was announced. From a sporting point of view we all know what he did in bringing our Boys in Green to places we had never been, on a wider economic front his time as manager coincided with the start of the boom. But even more importantly those times gave us a sense that we belonged on the international stage. There is no doubt that what Jack and the players did is a huge part of the growth of soccer in the country and here in Kerry. There was of course lots of soccer before Euro 88 and those involved in the Kerry District League, now led by John Regan who would also have met Big Jack on many occasions at Landsdowne Road and beyond, in the early days must not be forgotten. But a generation of young boys and girls ran out onto streets and into back gardens and wanted to be the players of the Euro’s and the 2 World Cups we qualified for under Jack. Those players are now coaching the next generation and have been involved over the last three decades in the wonderful growth in the numbers playing the game but also in the developments off the field. It was very interesting to see again over the last week the esteem that players from Jack’s teams like Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whealan, John Aldridge etc are still held in. Many of these have been regular visitors to Kerry over the years and will still cause great excitement at any club when they visit. We live in very different times now where many professional sports persons have lost that contact with the fans. This has come with the amount of money involved but also with the entourages they surround themselves with. Jack and his players never did this and just turned up with maybe a driver and mixed with everyone. It is because of this and of course because of the unparalleled, and sadly not repeated to date, success that those time in the late 80’s and early 90’s were golden years for soccer in Ireland with the late Jack at the helm. Hopefully as we enter a new era under Stephen Kenny we will see this level of success again and the present day young soccer players at all the clubs can look back in 30 years and have the same great memories that those of us who enjoyed Jack’s time have. ADVERTISER SPORT!
One Man Club: Unusually in modern day soccer Jack Charlton was a one-club-man having played all his career of over 21 years with Leeds United. It is a little poignant that Jack was not able to hold one for a few weeks to see the club finally get back to the Premier League – most likely as Championship winners. There is a very big Leeds United following in Tralee and in Kerry and I won’t name any of them for fear of upsetting those I don’t mention. But I know times have been tough for some Leeds fans away from sport and hopefully this week will give them something to smile about again. Watching your team, who might have struggled over years and suffered many disappointments, eventually win a title or promotion is a wonderful feeling and I think by the time this edition goes to print Leeds United should be promoted 0 surely they won’t slip up now like last year!!! To finish there a virtual Books of Condolence opened by the FAI and the Kerry CC for those who want to pass on their sympathies to Jack’s window Pat and his extended family. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RADIO KERRY: On behalf of the Advertiser I want to congratulate all those involved in Radio Kerry and particularly Radio Kerry Sport on their 30th birthday which they celebrated during the week. Sport is an intrinsic part of live in Kerry and our local radio station have been at every major and any many minor sporting contests over the last three decades. We say thank you for your coverage and here’s to the next 30 years and more on air. STACKS CHAIRMAN WALK’S: The Austin Stacks Chair Billy Ryle hasn’t resigned. This walk is a fundraising one where he is planning to walk 100km on the Bracker Regan Road over the next ten days starting today, Friday July 17th. He will walk at 10am and 4pm and is hoping lots of people will join him at one or more of these times. Part of the reason for this is also to get people to use the correct name given to the road honouring the late great Martin Bracker Regan (2 All Irelands 1931,32, Junior 1930, 4 County Championships and 2 Hurling Champions) and to stop using the slang name of ‘The Fat Mile’. Clubs back in training: In all clubs parents must make themselves aware of the GAA’s return to training and playing protocols. Membership is also due in most clubs. AUSTIN STACKS: The u6’s, u8’s and u10’s are in Connolly Park for the final time this Sunday and then go back to Caherslee on Sunday 26th with new members welcome at all age groups in the club. The u12’s really enjoyed their set of challenge games with neighbours
Kerin’s O’Rahillys where 42 young black and amber players togged out some of them still under 11’s. The club has entered 3 teams in the upcoming Lee Strand County League. The u14’s are training in Connolly Park on Wednesdays and Saturdays and have some challenge games coming up before the competitive season starts. The u16’s train on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings with their Bord na nOg fixtures starting on July 20th. The club also asks members to support its Lotto with tickets available from the usual outlets. TRALEE PARNELL’S NEWS: The club was delighted to see action back on the field with the u14 hurlers playing Crotta in Dromakee. All the players and mentors were delighted to finally be in charge of ‘live’ games. The u16’s also took to the field when they played St Brendan’s and also trained on the beach at Banna. The u12’s and u14’s are in Coiste nOg action this Friday and Saturday with the u16’s starting a week later. There was also great joy when the u6’s and u8’s got back on the grass under the watchful eyes of their coaches. The club is thankful to the volunteers who are doing the Covid Supervisors roles in the club. The seniors are looking forward to the Intermediate Hurling Championship and will be hoping to better their run to the semi-final last season. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: Club members, coaches and players both old and young were delighted to get back on the pitch in Ballyrickard as training returned. The club welcomed some new players and all are asked to try and Bring a Buddy to enjoy all the fun and excitement that the training brings. The Girls section was also out in force with the u12’s, u14’s, u16’s training as well the minor and senior ladies. The Ladies will play in their Junior Championship starting on Monday August 3rd. Anyone who has still to pay their registration is asked to do so as soon as possible. BALLYMAC NEWS: The minor team are one of the first for the club into competitive action when they begin their County League this Friday with a 7pm game away to Laune Rangers. All the Academies are back training and are certainly getting back into the swing of things. The Boys u12’s are in County League action this Sunday while the u14’s and u16’s are also getting ready for their season. Lotto: The draw for the Play Ball Ballymac GAA Interim Lotto took place on Facebook hosted by club PRO Maureen O’Shea. The numbers drawn were 15,31, 11 and 30. There was no winner of the e620 Jackpot

and we will have details of the next draw in next week’s edition. NA GAEIL NEWS: Like all the clubs the Na Gaeil teams from the youngest u8’s to the seniors are really getting back into the swing of things. The Minors are in Co League action this Friday night July 17th with An Ghaeltacht being the visitors for a 7pm throw-in. The clubhouse is open for pre booked meals but the bar and the gym are still closed. The club is also interested in hearing from anyone who would like to volunteer. ST PAT’S NEWS: The club’s Lotto is still suspended but they hope to have it back open soon. All the clubs teams are back on the training field. The Minors play Moyvane / Tarbert this Friday at 7pm. TRALEE PITCH & PUTT NEWS: Tralee Pitch & Putt players now know the dates of some of the big competitions at the course. The County Strokeplay will take place for adults on July 26th. Starting with the Junior Gents on 8am, Intermediate Gents at 11am and Senior Gents and Ladies from 2pm. The u16’s will play in Deerpark Killarney the day before. The closing date for entries is Wednesday July 22nd and details are available from the clubs. The club’s Scratch Cup over 36 holes will be on August 3rd while the Thursday night fourballs take place each week at 6.15pm. The date for the Captains Prize is still to be announced. KERRY SOCCER IS BACK: It is a great weekend for Kerry soccer with action back in the Kerry District Leagues ahead of a very busy few months. The League has decided to finish its 2019/2020 season over the coming weeks and then start the new 2020/2021season. A lot of work has taken place at Mounthawk Park to make sure the venue is complaint with all the FAI’s protocols. The same is being done by all the soccer clubs in the county and St Brendan’s have hosted a very successful and fully complaint and safe Summer Camp at Christy Leahy Park. The first competitive soccer action since March will be on Saturday with action in the Denny U17 League. In Tralee if you are tired of watching sport on television The Park play Fenit Samphires at 2pm. There is action on Sunday in the Greyhound Bar Cup with Dynamos at home to Camp (11.30am) being the highlight from a Tralee point of view. There is also action in some of the Leagues while there will also be a number of games on Wednesday night, July 22nd.
