Once one succeeds in obtaining a patent on the new process/product it allows the patent holder to solely mine the benefit of the patented invention by excluding others from exploiting the item commercially unless with the consent of the owner/patent holder. Hopefully the owner of the patent can then exploit it herself by making, using, selling or importing the patented invention. A patent is a form of property or intellectual property right and it can be transferred , licensed or otherwise used by the owner. Any transfer/license must be in writing. If a patent is granted in Ireland it will be applicable only in this territory. However if one wants protection in other countries one can do the European Patent or an International patent. For an invention to qualify for patenting it must be 1. New . 2. Something that can be made and used in industry including agriculture. 3. Have an inventive step – An invention is considered as involving an inventive step if it is not obvious to a person skilled in that area of technology, having regard to the state of the art. Patents can be difficult to obtain and expensive. Businesses sometimes employ patents agents to do the application. It is important that one does not go public with an invention before applying for it as this may prevent or limit the chances of getting the patent. Patents can last for 10 or 20 years depending on which type one applies for. “Patent pending” is a term used to inform the public that an application has been made for an item. It is illegal to falsely label a product as patent pending. An example of a patent was Baileys when they started off first and the patent was directed to the process of being able to make cream liqueur without curdling.

Not long now before Tralee explodes in a glitter ball of excitement! We’re taking about The Rose of Tralee Festival of course, one of the most eagerly awaited events in the Tralee calendar, starting off with the Rose Ball on Friday 19. Grab your gown, brush off your tuxedo and dance the night away with the Conor McKeon Band. Tickets on sale at roseoftralee.ie
The glitzy ball will be held at the MTU Sports Academy this year, with the complex undergoing a complete transformation to ensure a suitable backdrop for this immensely enjoyable event and, because of the change of venue, The Rose Committee has announced there will be a shuttle bus service running from locations around Tralee to help ferry guests to and from the site. The special service will run from 6pm to 8pm and a return service will operate from 11pm to 2am in a loop every 15mins and will cost €5 per person. The bus will be picking up and dropping off passengers at the Ashe Memorial Hall, The Rose Hotel, Kingscourt Apartments and The Meadowlands Hotel. But if dance anthems and remixes are more your speed, Friday 19th also sees the return of Retrospective at The Dome in the Abbey Car Park, promising a night of stomping dance classics from the 90s and noughties. The seniors enjoyed a great win over Dr Crokes in the opening round of the Senior Club Football Championship. In a cracking game they led 0-12 to 1-06 at half time and took the win 0-23 to 1-16. Jack Savage had a great game ending up with 12 points including 10 frees!! Round 2 is away to Austin Stacks this Sunday at 2.30pm in Connolly Park. In the Minor Championship St Brendan’s defeated Rathmore 2-08 to 0-12.

In the Girls side of the club the players were delighted to have taken part in the North Kerry Ladies organised Blitz. Well done to Frank McLoughlin and James Hayse and all those involved in running the event with the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Ireland. All the girls were delighted to receive their medals. The u13’s and u15’s are due to be in Championship action this weekend. The club has started an u13 and u15 Development Programme. The u14’s have a bye in Round 1 of the North Kerry League. The u19’s Championship is due to begin on August 19th. The Minor Ladies were involved in a cracker going down to Scartaglin 5-05 to 3-19.The Senior Ladies are away to Dingle in the North Kerry League Division 3. The Academy had another great turn-out and will train as normal again this weekend. Lotto - There was no winner of the Jackpot from the numbers drawn 13, 25, 28 and 32.

Cancer support charity, Recovery Haven Kerry, is thrilled to announce the return of its annual Celebration of Light ceremony to Tralee Bay Wetlands on Sunday, August 21st at 7pm. Run in association with the Rose of Tralee Festival, this poignant event aims to unite those touched by cancer and remember those we have lost. The evening will be MC’d by Sean Lyons and will also feature a performance from the Kerry Choral Union and will also include prayers and readings from a number of special guests, including the reigning Rose of Tralee Sinead Flanagan, Recovery Haven Kerry founder, Marian Barnes, Oonagh O’Gara of the Rose of Tralee Festival and long-time Recovery Haven supporter, Cathal Walshe. A number of this year’s Rose of Tralee contestants and escorts will also attend, as will Rose of Tralee CEO, Anthony TheO’Gara.emotional release of candles and stones will also form part of the celebration – with the valued support of Banna Sea Rescue - with candles available to buy on the night. I heard that there is a treatment that can help with this? Breda. Age spots on the hands are very common over the age of 50 but can appear much earlier if you are in the sun more. As we age our hands lose fat and elasticity and our skin loses volume. This reduced volume and decreased elasticity produces translucent skin that wrinkles and develops age spots. Also, as we age we are more susceptible to age spots as we have reduced melanin in the skin. We have two treatments at the CHRC to help hands look more youthful. The first treatment is the MP2 diamond polar which helps with skin tightening. This combines radio frequency and pulsed electro-magnetic field technology. A course of treatments is recommended but results can be seen just after one treatment. The treatments are cumulative and after your last treatment the skin will continue to improve for up to three to four months. Maintenance is required as we continue to age and every season a top-up treatment is required or up to the individual requirements. The second treatment which will target the age spots is intense pulsed light (IPL), which is a very successful treatment for pigmenta tion. A course is recommended and at first the pigment will go darker before it starts to fade. This treatment is very effective but SPF is recommended to be stop the new pigment forming or activating the old treated pigment. Deputy Michael Healy-Rae, T.D. has welcomed news that a local run bus service in Tralee better known as the “Peoples Bus” has resumed after a suspension of services during the COVID pandemic.

Under the initiative, grants of €1,000 - €3,000 will be provided to 41 Kerry community groups responsible for managing the trails throughout rural Ireland. The groups, which include the Skellig Monks Trail, the John F Leslie Woodland Walk and the Dingle Way, will be able to use the grant to maintain and improve their local trail and promote its use to visitors. Minister Foley said: "I am delighted to welcome this funding that will enhance and support some of Kerry’s worldclass walking trails and scenic walks in beautiful, picturesque and safe surroundings. Replying to a parliamentary question from the Kerry TD the National Transport Authority (NTA) confirmed that the operator resumed operations in the Tralee area.
“This is great news for the people who are committed users of public transport in Tralee. I raised this issue with the Minister on a recent visit to Tralee pointing out that the bus service in the town of Tralee potentially serves up to 24,000 people ranging from the elderly to students, from families heading around the town to even shoppers trying to get around. During the COVID pandemic the loss of this service further isolated people and I’m delighted that normal service has resumed. "There will be two separate groups ,leaving with a 15 min gap. First off by 9.15am and I expect riders returning by 2 to 2.30pm.We have moto marshals, Garda escort, Ambulance and back up service to ensure every cyclist is looked after. as well as mechanics on call along the route . There appears to be a lot of goodwill out there for the event and the organisations and the people involved , many who are volunteers ! As a lot of our participants are travelling from afar such as Limerick , Tipperary and Clare , to take part in this Summer Event .Food stops are now confirmed in Dingle for the longer 125km route And At Inch community hall for the shorter 75km route. PITCH & PUTT: The Munster u16 Strokeplay and Inter-County championships proved to be a happy hunting ground for Kerry pitch & putt. Held in Waterford the u16 Gold team were clear winners while the Green team finished third. Kerry players were also in the medals in the Singles competition. Kerry also took third in the Senior Men’s. The Intermediate and Junior teams put in a good effort but finished outside of the top three places.
NEW ROLES: The KDL has announced that Tadgh Healy will be the new Fixtures Secretary while Ken Robinson is the new manager of Strand Road FC.
BALLYMAC NEWS: The visit of Watervil In Round 2 of the Junior Premier Championship the boys made it two wins from two with a defeat of Waterville. The Senior Ladies put in a big effort but went down to Cromane in the Donal Curtin Division 3 Final 2-07 t0 0-10 points. Their Championship will be starting on Monday August 22nd with a home game over John Mitchels. The U14 Ladies were in their Division 5 County League B final in mid-week as were the Minor Ladies in their County League Division 1 semi-final. We will have their results next week. The Academy enjoyed their training session while the u10’s played Desmonds with both sides having two teams on duty. The 11’s played their first game for a while against Churchill with the u11’s enjoying a good win. The u13 Boys took on the Glenbeigh/ Glencar/Cromane combination in a cracker in hot weather. The opposition went 1-01 to no score ahead but the boys battled back and in the end won by just the one point 4-07 to 4-06. The club had a number of players on the Castleisland District team that defeated Eoghan Rua in the first round of the Lee Strand District Championship. They played East Kerry in mid-week. Lotto – The Lotto draw was conducted by the Fitzmaurice Brothers in Chicago. The numbers drawn were 19, 14, 21 and 30 with no winner of the jackpot of e2750.
A NICE SPIN AROUND DONEGAL FOR JERRY, SHANE AND MARK: Kerry riders have a great reputation in many aspects of cycling including ultra-distance races. The Cassidy’s from Killarney are in races abroad at present. In a race at the top end of this country there was great success for Tralee Manor West’s Jerry McCarthy who won the Donegal Ultra 555km Solo Supported section. Jerry clocked 19 hours and 8 minutes to come home 90 minutes ahead of his nearest challenger. His fellow clubman Shane Courtney took the win in the 555km Solo Unsupported category clocking 24 hours 48.57. Mark Prendiville was third in the Solo Male 333km category to make it a great weekend for Kerry’s ultra- distance riders.

She had picked up a hand injury and was out of action for a while but came to training before putting in a great performance in the Thefinal.u13’s combined team with Kerins O’Rahillys played their second Central League game away to Annascaul/Lispole who just held on for the win. Their next game is scheduled for August 21stagainst TheCastlegregory.minorswent down to Rathmore while the Senior’s were in Portmagee to take on Skellig Rangers in Round 2 of the club championship. It was all level at half time 0-05 points each but after a tight second half it was the home side that took a 1 point win 0-11 to 0-10. Round 3 is scheduled for August 20/21st.
Celebrations in Causeway: There are probably a lot of tired bodies in Causeway by the time this publication comes out after a week of celebrating their latest Garvey’s County Senior Championship win. They saw off Ballyduff 2-15 to 0-16 in Austin Stack Park taking home their ninth Neilus Flynn trophy. Brandon Barrett hit 1-07 with Colum Harty getting 1-01. Padraig Boyle did his best to keep Ballyduff in touch ending with 0-10 but the goal late on from Barrett put Causeway in an untouchable position. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The Seniors went down to Templenoe in the Club Championships and will be looking to bounce back against Rahillys this weekend.
Everyone involved in the Summer Camp was delighted when Sam made a visit on the last day. There were plenty of photos taken of the special guest and autographs from his entourage. The club was delighted with the success of the Rock All Stars three day camp and wants to say a special thanks to the Thesecoaches.players, for those with a diagnosis, will be back at their regular training session on Sunday mornings and new members are always welcome. The players were also delighted with a visit from the Sam Maguire and ended their camp by getting their certificates and enjoying some well-deserved treats with the club very thankful to sponsors.

ST BRENDAN’S PARK ENJOY THEIR TIME IN THE WEST: St Brendan’s Park u12’s have come home from the 2022 Galway Cup with a silver medal in the 2010 Section. They finished 2nd in the Group defeating Maree/ Oranmore and Mervue United and then Salthill Devon in the semi-final before going down for the second time to an excellent Finn Harps Academy side. On the mark during the week for the Park were Brendan Duggan, Fionn Clancy and Kylan O’Carroll and Calvin O’Sullivan who hit 7 goals and was named Player of the 12’s Galway Cup.
TRALEE BOXING CLUB: This week is Her Outdoors Week at the Tralee Boxing Club as part of the IABA initiative. This Sunday from 3 to 5pm there will be a Boxing on the Beach workshop concentrating on the basic skills in a non-contact session. LEAGUE OF IRELAND NEWS: Off the field and Kerry FC have announced Tralee man Damien Locke as Head of Academy. Damien, who is the Director for Soccer at the MTU and is a vastly experienced coach having worked in the Irish set-up, in the League of Ireland and in the USA. On the field the 19’s enjoyed a 5-1 win away to Longford while also at the weekend the 14’s went down to Cork City. This weekend all three sides are at home with the 14’s playing Wexford at 2pm on Saturday while on Sunday both the 17’s and 19’s welcome Drogheda United with a 3pm kick off.
CATHAL THE ONLY KERRY WINNER AT NAT CHAMPS: Tralee Manor West BC Cathal Moynihan was the only Kerry rider to medal at the Masters & A3 National Championships hosted by Newcastle West Wheelers. He was in a 6 man break and was just pipped for the silver medal. In the m60 category Tony Daly came home in 5th while the club had a number of riders in the A3 race. Joe Roche took 4th but himself and Niall McCarron were involved in a crash in the hectic run to the line. We wish both of them a speedy recovery. Also taking part were Vincent O’Leary, Shane Flynn, Stevie Griffin and Shane Fleming.
The u7 and 9’s train as normal with the 9’s set to face Milltown/Castlemaine on Thursday 18th and they hope to be the St Finbarrs tournament later in the summer. The u11’s are enjoying their Go Games action. The u13’s Division 1 A & B went down in Round 2 of the Central Leagueto Na Gaeil and they train as usual each week. The Lee Strand Tournament for the u14’s will take place on September 3rd while the 15’s Central League games are on hold until the final of the District/Division is played where the Division 1 side are in the final against Laune Rangers.
