Wishing You a Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year Chris & Colette

Looking forward to the New Year more than ever!!! To Our Advertisers, Readers, Families & Friends. And just like that, we are at the final edition of 2021, a year where your support has meant more than ever. 2021 has not been easy, for everyone. We all have struggled in some way, many have struggled with businesses. We would like to thank all our advertisers and readers from the bottom of our hearts, without you, we would not be here today. You have supported us and we will continue to support you. This year, despite the struggles, we have seen some new businesses open in Tralee, we saw old favourite businesses of the town get a new look and we watched others show strength through the hard times and remain hopeful that they would get to open their doors again. To the businesses that unfortunately had to close we empathize fully with you. The Tralee Advertiser is an important element in the fabric of everyday life in Tralee. We report, we support, we promote, we encourage... Why? It’s all for the improvement of Tralee as a place to live and to work. We now publish with pride, a bigger, and we hope, better weekly magazine. We report “Whats happening in Tralee” as our tag line says! This little publication

2

Friday 17th December 2021

(now 28 years old) would in no way exist without you, it’s the readers who demand to read it each week nor without our advertisers who ensure that we can bring this magazine to you FREE every week. At this time of year, as throughout the year, we urge you sincerely to support them, our local businesses, to buy local, because that’s where a lot of our livelihoods come from - the local economy. If it does well, we all do well! A big thank you to our contributors, who help keep us fresh, current and topical, Miriam’s Legal Corner, Billy from HRI in Tech Corner, Nathan and David in Tralee Chamber Alliance, our wonderful Chef Noel, Create by Rebecca, Ryles Pharmacy. CHRC Bons and our photographers both the public and the professionals, Joe Hanley John and Martin Cleary. Pat Hartnett for all his in depth top sports analysis. Our back-room team, The Keanes & Co at Kingdom Printers and Rafal, our excellent creative hard-working graphic designer from Expose Design, who both ensure we deliver an excellent publication EVERY week! And to everybody else who send us in photos, articles, poems, stories and so much more, a big thank you. Keep doing it… we really do appreciate it. We are looking forward to a little break now…

We start all over again in January 2022 We are delighted to see our Digital Edition of the Tralee Advertiser grow so well in the last 6 years. This addition to the Advertiser gives everybody the ability to read, on their smart-phone or Tablet/iPad, anywhere in the world, the most recent edition of The Tralee Advertiser and see “What’s really happening in Tralee!” As we all prepare for a very different Christmas, we must remember those who made huge sacrifices during the lockdowns, those who continue to work tirelessly in our health system, and those who could not celebrate their religious holidays due to government restrictions. Tralee is a resilient town, we have an amazing community and well, we are all in this together. Chris, Colette & The team at The Tralee Advertiser would like to wish you all a very Happy, Safe & Peaceful Christmas & New year. Merry Christmas!

THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES. My son is getting married in August and I want to pull out all the stops. My uppers arms are my issue. They are lacking tone and look very dry. I walk every day but my arms don’t look like I exercise. I am in my early sixties.

Cora Mary replies... Wobbly upper arms or “bingo wings” are those flaps of skin that hang down and swing along with every arm movement. They can happen to anyone of any gender. However, since men have an average of 10 to 15 percent more muscle mass, bingo wings primarily affect women starting at a younger age. Bingo wings come from a combination of three problems: reduced muscle mass, excess fat and poor skin condition. This lack of muscle mass contributes to the “bingo wing” look, because, without strength and tone, the tissue in your upper arms will sag. The upper arms can be helped with a skin tightening treatment in CHRC at the Bons Secours Tralee. It is F.D.A approved , painless and its is non surgical . There is no downtime. For years the main treatment for Bingo Wings had been surgery, which came with its risks such as pain, downtime and surgical scars. Fortunately, this is isn’t the case anymore as Bingo with a non-surgical skin tightening procedure, powered by innovative which rejuvenates the appearance of the skin safely and comfortably by heating the tissue under the skin’s surface. This triggers the natural production of collagen and elastin, the key building blocks of healthy, youthful skin. The result is an effortlessly tighter, smoother and younger-looking skin. Call in for a consultation and we can tell you the amount of treatments needed to get you waving to the bride and groom in confidence .

A 25 person Ballyroe Wedding for Emma and Brian? Magical, Wonderful! "Myself and Brian got married on the 10th of June 2021, I'm sure a lot of newlyweds and those to come know how difficult it was to plan a wedding in these crazy times. It may have been difficult but the outcome was nothing that we could ever imagine it to be, it was the most wonderful magical day that we could ever have dreamed of. I just want to thank Ballyroe for the fantastic job that they did, they looked after us beyond words, nothing was too big or too small for them to do for us. It is a day that myself and Brian will never forget. The kindness of the staff from start to finish and the settling of nerves from Patrick as he was there every second for anything that I needed. We

12

Friday 17th December 2021

would like to thank all the staff that made the day so special and one that was worth all the wait. Planning a wedding with only 25 guest is no easy task but at the end of it all I wouldn't change it for the world it was so intimate and inclusive and just a day to sit down and enjoy it with those so very close to us. I truly believe things happen for a reason and God definitely had a hand on our day and life going forth. So again thank you to the amazing team at Ballyroe and family friend and loved ones that were a part of a fabulous day." All our love, Emma and Brian Kerins xxx

Tralee Exiles in London Send Video Postcards Home

TRALEE exiles in London have recalled their Christmas memories in Kerry’s capital in a video campaign to showcase all that the town has to offer during the Festive Season. Recorded in London, the nostalgic videos underline the key role that Kerry Airport plays in facilitating their seamless return home to Tralee at Christmas and throughout the year.

The new President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Nathan McDonnell, said: “Home is where the heart it is, and the past 22 months have shown us that Tralee people living abroad have developed a deeper appreciation of home. Many people were unable to travel to Tralee last Christmas and our thoughts are with those who might not get to travel home this year to enjoy the full festive experience with family and friends. These video postcards from London highlight the special place that Tralee has in the memories of so many people who no longer live in the town. We hope they get home

soon to celebrate Christmas in Tralee and if not, thanks to Kerry Airport, we’re always close to them.” The videos of Tralee people in London, along with Christmas messages from local retailers, will be featured across the Tralee Chamber Alliance’s social media platforms from 15th December until Christmas Eve. The campaign was commissioned by Tralee Chamber Alliance and produced by former President, John Drummey.

Tralee Chamber Alliance and Kerry County Council are celebrating Christmas in full technicolour with the most colourful and decorative Christmas lights in Ireland. Tralee is fortunate to have some of the best independent businesses in the county standing shoulder to shoulder with high street brands offering a one stop shop for everyone. There isn’t a retailer, hotelier, restaurateur, publican, or attraction

provider in Tralee who won’t go the extra mile to ensure that the Christmas experience for locals and visitors is the most memorable ever. The wonderfully decorated windows by local retailers make for a festive atmosphere like no other and there are plenty of places to grab a coffee, lunch, or dinner to make a day of it. There’s no need to worry about parking costs as parking is FREE in Council-owned car parks (max. stay periods apply) until January 2nd. The CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Colette O’Connor, said: “2021 is about reconnecting and rediscovering what Christmas at home means to us, we are inviting people from across Kerry who are both living here and abroad to contact the Chamber and tell us what makes Christmas in Tralee special to them. Email us at info@tralee.ie or tag us on social media @ traleechamberalliance.”

€2 million secured in funding for Kerry Airport Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley welcomes the announcement of €2.2 in funding for Kerry Airport under the Regional Airports Programme 20212025 and the Covid-19 Supplementary Supports Scheme. This latest tranche of funding brings the total Government investment in Kerry Airport for 2021 to €5.9 million. Minister Foley said: “I welcome this funding which will deliver further vital financial supports to Kerry Airport. This announcement will provide a timely boost for the aviation sector in the south west region while ensuring the successful continuation of regional connectivity at Kerry Airport.” "To maintain vital safety operations during the latest wave of the pandemic this is a welcome pre-Christmas boost, according to Kerry Airport CEO, John Mulhern.

It will ensure that the airport in Farranfore can continue to remain compliant with regulatory requirements in the areas of fire safety, air traffic control, and security. The CEO at Kerry Airport, John Mulhern, said: “Yet again aviation, like many industries, finds itself adversely impacted by a new variant of Covid. With many choosing not to travel to await both hard data on the true impact of this variant and their booster doses of vaccine, however this funding from the Department of Transport again demonstrates a strong commitment by Government to help us navigate the pandemic. We thank Minister Naughten and recognise the tireless work in the background by the team at the Department of Transport. Grateful thanks as always to our Kerry-based Government

representatives, Minister for Education Norma Foley and Deputy Chief Whip Brendan Griffin for their continued support.” Christmas is traditionally a very busy time at Kerry Airport with people returning to the Kingdom from London, Manchester, Germany and Dublin to celebrate the Festive Season at home. Passengers are reminded to allow additional time for their journeys due to the seasonally longer

queues which have been adversely impacted by Covid restrictions. Kerry Airport Covid protocols remain in place and only passengers are permitted into the Terminal building with details at www.KerryAirport. ie. For information on flight schedules, please contact your airline. The Management, Staff and Board at Kerry Airport wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Enjoy Free Parking In Tralee Over Christmas! (Nov 29-Jan 2nd , for 2-4 hrs Daily in ALL Council Car Parks , Check signs for details)

‘Give The Gift Of Kerry This Christmas’ Kerry shoppers can give the gift of Kerry this Christmas thanks to the Kerry Gift Card which can be used in dozens of Kerry businesses and services. The Kerry Gift Card, which will allow shoppers to support local jobs and local businesses in the run-up to the Christmas, is now available to buy online and at the county’s larger post offices. It can be redeemed at over sixty different shops, services and businesses across the county. The card, which is operated by One4all and supported by the Kerry Chambers Network and Kerry County Council, is part of a wider campaign to encourage people in Kerry to shop locally and spend locally at this time of enormous challenge for many people in business.

Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Jimmy Moloney welcomed the initiative: ‘Kerry Chambers and Kerry County Council have been working closely together in recent months on practical and meaningful ways in which businesses can be supported through the current economic difficulties. This new Kerry Gift Card is an ideal way for people in the county to support their local shops and businesses. I would urge people to consider the card as a gift for loved ones and to use and spend the cards promptly to ensure businesses are supported now through the current challenges.’

Gift Card can be redeemed in businesses of all sizes across Tralee and around the county, which makes it the ideal staycation and shop local initiative that guarantees the money stays local. This Christmas we can all give the Gift of Kerry, and we would in particular encourage any employer that can afford to, to reward their staff with the Kerry Gift Card because it complies with the revenue allowances for tax free gifts.’

President of Tralee Chamber, Nathan McDonnell said: ‘The Kerry Gift Card shows what can be achieved when we all work together. The

President of Killarney Chamber, Niall Kelleher said: ‘The Kerry Gift card already has hotels, restaurants and shops throughout the county

signed up, and is being supported by businesses in every corner of the county. With such a wide range of locations to redeem the card there is huge choice for people this Christmas. We would encourage everyone to buy the card as a gift now, and encourage them to spend it over the coming weeks and months throughout the county.’ www.kerrygiftcard.ie

An Afternoon with Roy Keane Generates Over €50,000 for Palliative Care Over €50,000 was raised for the Palliative Care Unit in Kerry University hospital after a wonderful luncheon in Ballygarry Estate with soccer legend Roy Keane. The star guest travelled over from Manchester by ferry, taking 3 days out of his hectic schedule to entertain the avid fans who awaited him. Roy Keane has been hailed to be in a league of his own when it comes to kindness and charity work. He frequently donates both his time and his efforts to a variety of charities in an attempt to give back to society. The committee members for this event were none other than Eoin Kelliher, Anne Looney, Marc O Sé, Michael McMahon, Mark Fitzgerald & Matt Moloney. Each member of the committee played a crucial role in the success of such a fantastic event. All of their hard work & superb efforts were recognised on the day, as it was an afternoon which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Ballygarry were delighted with the opportunity to host such an event. They were the clear

choice of venue, given their three generations of hospitality experience hosting a vast range of events and corporate functions in their family run establishment. The Ballygarry team ensured a homely and festive atmosphere for all as the afternoon began with a cosy drinks reception, followed by a sumptuous four course meal & music to follow. After the meal Roy spent 90 minutes on stage interviewed by Matt Cooper commenting on his career & discussing some of the highlights from his 425 matches. No topic was speared as they discussed everything from the past, present & future. Keane even spoke about his desire to return to sporting management. Some of the Kingdom’s well known treasures such Mick Galwey, Séamus Moynihan, Marc Ó Sé, & Éamonn Fitzmaurice were in attendance, alongside many more of the Kerry Team’s past players. Eamonn Fitzmaurice, former Kerry player and manager proclaimed that “Roy has had a huge influence on a

generation of people playing sports. In our own group, a load of us looked up to you.” He claimed that they “looked up to that winning mentality.” Ballygarry Estate had the strictest protocols yet at any event held locally. Mandatory antigen tests accompanied by Covid-19 Vaccine Certificates with matching ID & Temperature checks were required by each guest upon entry. Although the protocol may have been strict it ensured a sense of safety

for those attending, which in these times is essential. Padraig McGillicuddy stated that “We have to learn how to attend & host events again. This event proves that if we follow guidelines rigidly & screen accordingly everyone can have a great day. There’s only so much that we can do as hosts, every individual must be accountable to stop the spread of this virus.”

AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS...

(Nov 29-Jan 2nd , for 2-4 hrs Daily in ALL Council Car Parks , Check signs for details)

from The Tralee Advertiser Team and Tralee Chamber Alliance

Tralee Chamber in conjunction with Kerry County Council will light up the Sky for 2022 New Year’s Eve 2020 was a subdued affair in Tralee, the annual fireworks display and street party couldn’t take place due to Covid restrictions. However there is good news for 2021 as Tralee Chamber in conjunction with Kerry County Council and with the support of The Ashe and Manor West Hotels have confirmed that while the street party will not be taking place, the fireworks will go ahead at 6pm. People are invited to watch the fireworks live online on the Chamber Facebook page at 6pm, if living nearby from the comfort of their homes. Colette O’Connor CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance “While we wanted to mark the end of the year in style we are also mindful of doing so in as safe a manner as possible and encourage anyone who will be on the streets on New Year’s Eve to observe social distancing and mask wearing. We are so looking forward to lighting

up the sky over Tralee and bidding farewell to what has been for many another very challenging year. We are now looking at 2022 and have lots to look forward to, including the completion of the Tralee – Fenit Greenway which is going to be game changing for Tralee and the wider North Kerry area”. Nicky Simmonds-Gooding head of Group Business Development at The Ashe and Manor West Hotels stated “The Ashe and Manor West Hotels Tralee are delighted to be supporting this year’s fireworks celebrating the start of 2022. Wishing the best to all for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year' Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Johnnie Wall reaffirmed “As always, Tralee will be closing out the year with our spectacular fireworks display at 6pm but in a COVID safe manner. There will be no need to gather in Denny Street as

I’m encouraging everyone to either watch the display from their homes or from the multiple vantage points located in close proximity to the town. He added “As we look forward to Christmas and the New Year, the onus is on all of us to do so responsibly. I want to wish everyone a very

safe, peaceful and happy Christmas and a New Year full of new opportunities for our town.” To watch the fireworks in Tralee please follow Tralee Chamber Alliance on Facebook: facebook.com/ traleealliance

Will it be a Platinum or a Gold one under the Tree asks Susan!

Had a call from Susan during the week who runs Susan Crean Dental on Denny Street . Just to let me know that her multi-treatment idea for Christmas Gift Vouchers is going down a storm with both regular clients and new clients " We decided to create 2 different types of vouchers , A Platinum Voucher which covers any of the five Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments that we have to offer ( such as Invisalign , Laser Teeth Whitening etc ) and our Gold Voucher which covers any of our six Facial Aesthetics Treatments ( such as Anti-Wrinkle Treatments , Vampire Facial, ZO Skincare etc ). The reason they are so popular is because the vouchers are so flexible and also the 'Gift of Health ' this Christmas seems to be trending right across different sectors . Dont worry Susan still has some of her beautifully presented Platinum and Gold Vouchers available if you think a loved one would love to see one under the tree on Christmas morning ! Susan can be contacted at her practice in Denny Street directly ...just pop in or else give her a call on 066-7117577
