Cork Kerry Community Healthcare thanks Kerry ETB for COVID facilities Cork Kerry Community Healthcare has thanked the Kerry Education and Training Board for its support in making Kerry College of Beauty, which is part of the Kerry College Monavalley Campus available as a test centre for Covid-19. The Tralee community testing centre has been located at Kerry College of Beauty since March, following a decision by the ETB to make the site available to the HSE. For operational reasons, the centre has now relocated to the grounds of Ballymullen Barracks. This test centre has been a busy centre, staff assigned to the test centre have tested members of the public who have been referred by their GP and have supported mass testing

of residents and staff from residential care facilities across Kerry. Head of Primary Care with Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, Teresa O’Donovan said:

“We would like to thank the ETB for their support in providing their Beauty Therapy facility as a venue at very short notice. Their support has been invaluable over recent months and assisted us as we rapidly increased the number of tests being carried out and expanded our testing capacity.” More than 70 staff across Cork and Kerry were redeployed to Covid-19 test centres in recent months, including nurses, therapy staff from a range of professions, oral health staff, and administrative staff.

Pictured are Dr Patrick Quinn, Principal Dental Surgeon with Cork Kerry Community Healthcare who helped to set up the Tralee test centre, thanking Ioseph Nestor of the Kerry Education and Training Boards for that board’s support. Photo by Dominick Walsh The current waiting time for to have a swab taken in the Cork and Kerry region remains under 24 hours.Anyone referred for a test is reminded

that while they are waiting for either the test itself or the result, they must self-isolate.

Kingdom Greyhound Stadium stands to lose 36 race nights per year.... by Donal Barry, Kerry Sports Hub

There has been widespread condemnation for a move by the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) to move 3 race nights per month from the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium in Tralee to Cork and Limerick. Kerry Sports Hub has confirmed the move, which has led to calls from Deputy Michael Healy TD to restore them immediately Deputy Michael Healy Rae condemned the move by the Irish Greyhound Board to transfer 3 nights of greyhound racing per month from the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium in Tralee and move those nights to Cork and Limerick. “The move will affectively mean that 36 race nights Friday 31st July 2020

throughout the year, all Fridays and Saturdays evenings will leave a void in the yearly calendar which will reduce the amount of racing mainly for Kerry owners and trainers. There will also be an impact on staffing and the ability for the Tralee venue to raise income with the loss of revenue.” Deputy Michael Healy Rae stated Chairperson of the Kingdom Greyhound Advisory Council Paul O’Connor has said that move is “pure madness and has no justification what so ever as the Kingdom greyhound Stadium and local Kerry trainers have built it up to a successful four night card

each week which gives hundreds of owners, trainers and breeders the chance to participate in the sport that they love” Not only will be the reduction in nights be felt at the Tralee venue in which staff will now see a reduction in nights but also by owners who may now be faced to wait longer for a race and thus seeing many dogs having to be requalified. The alternative is a longer trip to

Our School Bikes Africia project collects unwanted bikes from across Ireland, delivers them to Loughan House and Shelton Abbey open prisons where the prisoners refurbish the bikes. They are then shipped to Africia and distributed to school children giving them the chance of a better future. To date Rotary Ireland have delivered 4000 bikes and therefore helped 4000 children get to school each day, but our work is far from done. We would urge you to GET INVOLVED and help to transform the lives of these children.

While providing these children with bikes for school, we are also helping those much closer to home. The prisoners at Loughan House and Shelton Abbey are also getting a chance of an education as the School Bikes for Africia project allows them to study for a City and Guilds / FETAC Bike Mechanic’s course which helps with their rehabilitation back into society and their job prospects. Finally the environmental impact of recycling these unwanted bikes is another added benefit of this project.

TIGH TP’S BallyDavid... One of Dingles Best kept secrets!

Last weekend , we took a gamble on the weather and headed back to what must be one of Kerrys best kept secrets , Tigh TP’s in Ballydavid , or Baile Na nGall, just 15 mins past Dingle . It has its own beach and pier right outside the door .Most of the time , we get to bag one of the 10 prime spots right outside the door , the wooden benches! Alas it was raining all the

way from Tralee so we had to venture inside where we were met and acknowledged by Sean B O ‘Choncuir , the landlord and owner ! Yes he had to make a few structural changes inside but was glad to see all the covid procedures in place . Sean had us seated within 5 mins and a drink for us and our friends was on the way ...But the real reason we were there , in spite of

the inclement weather was for Tigh TP’s famous Scampi dish ...time and time again , its never disappointed us ! “ Sure , we’re so close to the sea that the fish jump on your plate , says Sean ..and its all local catch by them . Hake Haddock , and more were all on the menu ,,,and at only €18 for the Scampi prawn dish with a portion twice what we’ve seen else where , where

would you be !My friends were divided between the Scampi and the Hake but 3 ‘of the best pints of Guinness Ive had in a while’ were my friends remark ! As one of the recent tripadvisor comments say “the location is stunning and the food incredible “ ..Let the Staycationing begin ...we’ll be back!

Ballygarry House Hotel Ranks in Irelands Top 10 Hotels for their sixth year in a row. Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa have been ranked in the top 10 Hotels of 950 in Ireland amongst the top 5 stars across the country. On Tuesday it was announced that the Kerry Hotel is ranked No. 5 in the country ahead of many five stars & with one other 4 star. The rankings are a customer based decision on the quality of reviews received annually. Speaking from Ballygarry House today, proprietor Padraig McGillicuddy said “In a time of great uncertainty across our industry we are delighted with this positive news. It really is down to the team at Ballygarry. It takes

each & every one of the 150 staff that interacts with guests to make that moment memorable. Standards must be high & each guest has a varied expectation & we must meet & exceed that at every opportunity. It’s a testament to the culture of the team & the history of Ballygarry along with our loyal customers whom we are more grateful to than ever to in the current climate” This endorsement of standards is very reassuring for the next chapter in Ballygarry House’s journey which is to transition into an Estate Hotel. “Essentially our aim is to develop the 100 acres

we sit on to give the guest more options, more things to do in the outdoors. We are going to connect the hotel through a series of paths & a new dedicated bridge direct from the hotel into Ballyseede woods. We are working closely with Kerry County council to connect Ballygarry along the north shore of the river Lee to be able to cycle from Ballygarry to Fenit on dedicated paths. We aim to have far more amenities for leisure guests & families along with a vast options of walkways for locals enjoying a pre or post diner stroll.

The Tripadvisor rankings are Harvey’s point in Donegal taking first position followed by Killarney Park, Ashford Castle, Dromoland Castle, Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa, The Lake Hotel, Adare Manor, Hayfield Manor, The Brehon, Killarney & the River Lee Hotel in Cork.

Pride - A time and experience that will be missed however still united in spirit For now, the summer festivals of pride in Ireland and abroad will not be unfolding the colour & support that has longed served the people of LGBT Identity. Pride festivals are known for there beautiful collaboration of music, colour, creativity, and collaboration of friendships and overall a very great time & continuity. The festivals are spread throughout the world. The reason I say this is sadly there are people who still believe that choosing to identify as LGBT is optional. My experience is the complete opposite. The very nature of my sexual identity was not a choice. It was a long battle and fight to accept. Society made it in my experience deeply wounding. However, I was fortunate enough to have a family and some especially important friends 2 angels important to mention. Georgina & Tommy that held me when I could not hold myself. I will be forever grateful. Pride was so exciting and inviting as its full of hope and togetherness that is full

of simply amazingly fabulous people. As we are now in uncertain times and pride festivals are at a stand for now, we do not forget those who may have been waiting all year to get there. If this is you then breath as I trust it will return and as I know for now there are lots of connections online, incorporating the festival itself online. Virtual pride (wow) another experience to engage with. These can be located on www.pride festival 2020.com. The LGBT Website will offer many & much information also. The festivals will include Kerry, Limerick, Cork, Waterford, Dublin, Belfast. There are young people in rural areas and in built up towns who are so very isolated and alone because of there identity. There are also grown adults in the same very same situation. It is sincerely heart-breaking for those who are alone in their feelings. It is equally sincerely sad that we still live in a world that will stop people from being who they want to be. Society will and still is

powerfully stamping its foot in a manner of unacceptance. People need to be brave and courageous and not fall at the unacceptance of another, we get one shot at life its important that we individually get a civil chance to be free without hurting anyone as we go. To those who still have stigma in the realm of homophobic attitude, I for one ask you to keep it. Its yours so own it. It is not yours to offer out to those who get damaged and more seriously loose their very existence because of it. To those who still are afraid and carry shame, I ask the

God within me and others for hope & Faith that you be free. You have a place in this world you own that, claim it. Being beautifully broken is worth it. With spiritual intentions to all walks of life let the festivities begin no matter who you are. “IF EITHER OF THEM FALLS DOWN, ONE CAN HELP THE OTHER UP. BUT PITY ANYONE THAT FALLS AND HAS NO ONE TO HELP THEM UP”. ECCLESIASTES 4:10 Written by Fidelma Fitzgerald The Philomena Dramatics.

Manor Hotel leisure club leading the way in hygiene standards The activity over at Manor Hotel leisure and fitness club has increased recently as they reopen their doors to all their existing members , hotel guests and new members . They have been blown away by the hugely positive feedback on all sides in relation to the hygiene and safety standards that have been put in place by Manageress Catriona and her team . Says Catriona “The leisure club has implemented a separate covid cleaning schedule on top of our regular hygiene

schedule. This is to ensure we are directly aligned with HSE & CDC guidelines as well as all recommendations from Ireland active. We are so delighted to hear such positive feedback from all our current members we have welcomed back so far. This is new to the team as well as our clients so it really means a lot for us to hear the encouragement from those who’s comfort and safety is paramount to us. Members can call ahead and organise their gym, swim or indeed both with us at reception to help us allow for a comfortable amount of users at any one time. We are currently keeping separate hours for hotel residents in the pool from members swim & leisure times. This has allowed a very gentle safe reopening for everyone’s enjoyment. We are regulating the number of pool users as well as gym users each hour so there is comfortable space for all members whatever is your fitness of choice. And we are

pleased to announce this week that we have a very special offer of a months trial membership now available for anybody wishing to try our facilities and see first hand the hygiene and safety measures that we have worked

Improve your Wi-Fi with a mesh system

The weakened signal or Wi-Fi dead spots could be the result of physical obstructions. Simple things like the floor, doors, and walls of your home can come between you and your router, especially if they’re made of metal, brick, or concrete. Or perhaps the distance is simply too great in a large home, and your traditional router is only capable of reaching as far as the kitchen, but not to the backyard, the garage, or a distant bedroom. Interference from other devices could also be the culprit, whether it’s your microwave, cordless phone, or baby monitor. If you live in close quarters with other Wi-Fi networks and devices—such as in an apartment complex—this problem increases tenfold. Think of it like a room full of people who are all speaking at once—nobody’s going to be heard very well This is where the mesh network would solve Wi-Fi issues in your home. Mesh Wi-Fi or Whole Home Wi-Fi systems consists of a main access point that connects directly to your modem, and a series of other extender can be placed around your home for full Wi-Fi coverage. They are all part of a single wireless network and share the same SSID and password. In order to be successful with the system they must not be placed to far away from each other. A typical mesh network comes with three access points. Typical cost of installation of a mesh network is approximately €180 and can transform your wifi !

Sky Q around the House

There is no denying that Sky Q truly has revolutionised the aerial, satellite and home AV industries. All the new features & you can record more. The day has come for your installation and you're excited to see the nice shiny new box and finally you can record 2 programs and watch another at the same time. So, you’re there relaxing watching your favourite program, you're starting to get tired so you decided you will watch the rest of it in bed. Then you suddenly realise that feature is no longer available. Sky want you to purchase another box subscription so you can have this feature. Good news there is a solution... all you need is a HDMI modulator this will connected to the HDMI output of the Sky Q box. This would convert the HDMI signal into a digital multiplex which can be easily distributed over a TV aerial system, then can be tuned into any Soarview digital TV and appear as its own digital TV channel which can be set in the settings of the modulator itself. When combining with an aerial signal you need to be careful when setting the UHF channel output on the modulator to a channel which is not used by local transmitters in your area as this could cause poor reception.

Minister Norma expresses regrets for Borgwarner staff Minister Norma Foley has expressed her deep regret and disappointment that the BorgWarner factory is to close with the loss of over 200 jobs. The company, which has been a major employer in the Tralee

area for over 30 years will close early next year. Commenting Minister Foley said “this is an immense blow to Tralee and Co. Kerry. It is a hugely distressing time for

workers and their families and my thoughts are with them. The announcement of the closure, coming during what is a period of great uncertainty is immensely stressful for them. “I understand the company plans to provide a financial package and supports to employees who will be made redundant. The company has also indicated its intention to work with the IDA to find alternative investment and employment for the plant. I have spoken directly with Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland in this regard and every effort will be made to support these endeavours. “I am also working with the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to ensure workers are offered upskilling

and retraining opportunities to ensure that they are in the best position possible to secure alternative employment.”

Bracker 100k walk finished on Sunday! The Bracker 100km Fundraising Walk came to a successful conclusion on Sunday 26th July at the Bracker O’Regan Monument. Joining the event organiser, our Club Chairman, Billy Ryle on the 4km last stage of the 100km walk were regulars Timmy Slattery, Denis and Liz O’Regan, Martin and Carmel O’Regan. Also present were Mairead Fernane and Tim Guiheen.

A few anecdotes and memories were recounted at the Bracker Memorial; Denis O’Regan recited a poem written by his brother, Tommy O’Regan in memory of the late Martin “Bracker.” Mairead Fernane gave a rendition of the Austin Stacks poem, “The Boys from the Top of the Rock.” Since the walk began on Friday 17th July there has been a strong social dimension to the

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2020

A Summer Dish for Summertime! (fingers crossed!) This is a lovely summer dish using in season tomatoes and cucumbers to their best. A fantastic dish around the table and also a great BBQ dish to boot!

CHARRED CUCUMBER PANZANELLA WITH GRILLED STEAK INGREDIENTS • 2 (1-pound) well-marbled strip steaks or 1 (2-pound) flank steak • 5 tablespoons olive oil, divided, plus more for drizzling • 4 1/2 teaspoons sea salt, divided • 1 3/4 teaspoons black pepper, divided, plus more for garnish • cucumbers (about 5), halved lengthwise • 1 pound day-old bread, cut into 3/4-inch-thick slices • 1/4 cup unseasoned rice vinegar • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

• • • • • • • • • •

Serves 4 to 6

1 teaspoon honey 1 garlic clove, smashed 1/4 cup rapeseed oil 2 pounds tomatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 cup thinly sliced cucumber 1 cup thinly sliced red onion, rinsed under cold water 1 tablespoon sweet sherry vinegar (such as Alvear Pedro Ximenez) Flaky sea salt Basil leaves Salsa verde

METHOD Preheat grill to high. Rub steaks with 1 tablespoon olive oil, and sprinkle with 2 teaspoons sea salt and 1 teaspoon pepper. Let stand at room temperature 30 minutes. Meanwhile, place cucumber halves, cut sides down, on oiled grates. Grill, uncovered and without turning, until cut sides are blackened, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from grill, and set aside to cool completely, about 30 minutes. Drizzle both sides of bread slices with remaining 1/4 cup olive oil, and sprinkle with 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Place on grates, and grill, uncovered, turning occasionally, until charred but still chewy, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from grill, and let cool slightly, about 5 minutes. Tear bread into 1-inch pieces, and toss with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Set aside. Place steaks on oiled grates. Grill, uncovered, until medium-rare, 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or to desired degree of doneness. Transfer steaks to a cutting board, and let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Combine cooled cucumber halves, rice vinegar, Dijon, honey, garlic, and 3/4 teaspoon saltin a food processor t e. ess until smooth, about 20 seconds. Add oil; process until just incorporated, about 8 seconds. Transfer mixture to a large bowl; add bread pieces, and toss to coat. Let stand until slightly softened, about 3 minutes. Add tomatoes, cucumber slices, onion slices, sherry vinegar, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, and remaining 1/4 teaspoon pepper; gently fold to combine. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil, and garnish with black pepper, flaky sea salt, and basil leaves. Serve panzanella with steak and salsa verd

Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE I hope you’re having an amazing week.

This week I’m doing something that isn’t necessarily beauty related - but I thought might be of interest anyway.

LET’S TALK PODCASTS

I absolutely LOVE podcasts, although they are a more recent trend, I have been listening to some for a few years now. I listen to at least one podcast episode daily. I’m not much of a tv gal, (except when Love Island is on), I’d rather watch YouTube videos or listen to a good podcast. This week I want to talk about my top recommendations for podcasts. Also, if you don’t know now you know - I have my own podcast that I launched during lockdown, Love That For Me. I release new episodes every Monday morning & you can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever else you listen to your podcasts! I listen to all of the below on Spotify.

THE WALL BY STEPHANIE O’QUIGLEY

This podcast is ran by my good online friend, Stephanie O’Quigley, and I was actually a guest on it during lockdown. Being on this podcast really made me want to start my own. The Wall is where Stephanie has candid coversations with people whom she is inspired by. It’s a refreshing take on the road less traveled. I adore this podcast!

Jay Shetty has the most interesting conversations with people, I listen to him almost everyday and always learn something valuable. He has had Jada Pinkett Smith, Kobe Bryant, Robin Sharma, Khloe Kardashian, Jordan Belfort, Gary Vee and so many more on his podcast - a very interesting listen.

THE JAMES SMITH PODCAST

I love all of James’ content but I think his podcasts are my favourite. He is an online Personal Trainer who has a very no BS approach to the fitness industry. His podcasts are VERY informative and easy to listen to. I recommend starting with BOOKS, MENTAL WEALTH or FAT LOSS FOR FEMALES. Or you can just start at the beginning.

his content. This podcast is more business focused and he talks a lot about technology and social media, but in an easy to listen to/ understand way. Listen to his podcast ‘how to stop caring and start posting’ - it was one of my favourites.

ON PURPOSE WITH JAY SHETTY

THE GARY VEE AUDIO EXPERIENCE

Probably one of my favourites, I have been a fan of Gary Vee for a few years now. I have both of his books and I just really enjoy Friday 31st July 2020

FITNESS!

Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read

Hello my strong friends

I hope you’re all having an amazing week! This week I want to talk all about macros. I am doing a training plan with Kiki Nugent, and macros are a big part of that! I tracked macros consistently for most of my progress and I found it worked really well for me. I will not be posting my daily calories or macros here, as everyone is SO SO different and my macros/calories are personal to me. If you wish to track macros or figure out what calories you should be consuming I recommend you find a reputable personal trainer (who knows about nutrition) and discuss it with them. Otherwise you can download the free JSA (James Smith Academy) app and calculate them there. Tracking macros is not for everyone, but I know it’s what works for me. When I don’t track my macros I always end up not consuming enough protein.

By the way, macros are just the breakdown of food - Protein, Carbohydrates and Fat. My current percentages of macros from my calories on training days are… 33% carbs 36% protein and 31% fat. There are three types of Macros: Protein, Carbs & Fat. You should not cut any group out of macros while tracking them, your body needs all three. Protein - Proteins are essential nutrients for the human body. They are one of the building blocks of body tissue and can also serve as a fuel source. As a fuel, proteins provide as much energy density as carbohydrates: 4 kcal per gram. Examples of foods that have high protein are: eggs, meat, legumes, whey protein & tofu. Carbs - Carbohydrates are the sugars, starches and fibers found in fruits, grains,

vegetables and milk products. Though often maligned in trendy diets, carbohydrates, one of the basic food groups, are important to a healthy diet. Fat - Fats are a type of nutrient that you get from your diet. It is essential to eat some fats, though it is also harmful to eat too many. The fats you eat give your body energy that it needs to work properly. Especially as women, we need to include fats in our diet. Everyone needs different levels of each macronutrient. Protein does not make you fat, Carbs do not make you fat & Fat does not make you fat. They are all essential to a healthy body and mind. Remember that!

MEASUREMENTS I really focus on measurements rather than the scales, as being a woman the scales can fluctuate SO much and can be inaccurate when it comes to progress. I do weigh myself daily and take a weekly average from that but I don’t focus on the number. When I take measurements of my body and photos I can see progress a lot more than stepping on a scale.

He said, “Do you have a real grudge?” “No,” she replied, “We have a two-car carport and have never really needed one”. “Please,” he tried again, “Ma’am, does your husband ever beat you up?”. “Yes,” she responded, “about twice a week he gets up earlier than I do”. Finally, in frustration, the judge asked, “Lady, why do you want a divorce?” “Oh, I don’t want a divorce” she replied. “I’ve never wanted a divorce. My husband does. TAMS surge sees Cultivate Farm Loans from your Credit Union to the fore With TAMS II* due to close at the end of December 2020, farmers in Kerry, who are planning investment need to apply as soon as possible. Over the last 5 years TAMS grant aid to the value of €204 million has being invested on Irish farms. 40% of the overall spend was invested on dairy farms, particularly on milking machines. A further 20% was invested in farm buildings, while 12% was invested in slurry spreading equipment. TAMS is currently seeing a surge of applications as it is due to close in December 2020. The Cultivate loan from Cara Credit Union, Killarney Credit Union and Listowel Credit Union, is focussed on helping

farmers invest in their farm business. It is an ideal loan to match TAMS grant aided farm development. According to Pa Laide CEO Cara Credit Union, “We have worked with a lot of farmers in Kerry on farm development. TAMS has worked a treat and we hope it continues after the December deadline. Our farmer members need the TAMS support as they re-invest in their farm business. Dairy, beef and sheep farmers are entitled to apply for a grant and while for most cases a maximum of €80,000 is available, in some cases up to €160,000 is available, for example young trained farmers in farm partnerships. MOTORING SNIPPETS WITH EDDIE

Skoda here has rolled out an innovative ‘stock check’ element on its website. It lets you see exactly what new models are available - and where. As of now, it shows there are almost 750 new models in stock. The check facility means would-be buyers can not only identify the car they want but also see where/how far away it is.It reckons this will cut down the waiting time for more popular models such as the Kodiaq. * FANCY an electric BMW 5-series? The next-generation of the sought-after motor will have a battery-electric powertrain as well as petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid power sources. So will the X1.It’s all part of the company’s attempt to introduce 25 electrified models by 2023. It plans on reducing CO2 emissions for each vehicle by one-third at least by 2030.But doesn’t the term ‘electric 5-series’ have a ring to it all the same? And in its way it shows why experts are predicting that as many as one-third of all new cars sold around the world will be electrified by the end of the decade. The prediction comes from Deloitte. It estimates we, globally, will be buying 31.1 million electrified vehicles each year by 2030. That is a substantial 10 million more than previously forecast. However, we need to make the point that they are talking ‘electrified’ which includes PHEVs and hybrids as well as ‘pure’ electric vehicles. They reckon electrified motor purchases will reach 2.5 million this year despite the contractions wrought by the coronavirus crisis globally. They estimate a near-30pc compound annual growth rate. And by 2030 they forecast that pure EVs will comprise 80pc or so of all new electrified cars sold. One of the reasons is the expanding range of new, more affordable EVs coming on the market. * IT’S sad to hear that Mitsubishi is freezing the introduction of new models to the Irish and European markets. Understandably, the Irish distributors say they are “disappointed”. They also say: “We will continue to sell our existing models and look after our existing and future customers through our dedicated after-sales and service departments.”Mitsubishi was first introduced here in 1984 and quickly built a reputation for reliability and engineering. Now, the global company plans to focus on investment in core markets where it sees potential.Sales of existing models will continue in what is being viewed as the beginning of a gradual withdrawal from Europe. More immediately it means the new Eclipse Cross plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and the next-generation Outlander PHEV will not make it to European or Irish showrooms. And that’s a real pity.(Credit ;Indo Motoring , Eddie Cunningham )

CAN ELECTRIC CARS TOW A CARAVAN?

It will apparently be possible to tow with the new Nissan Ariya. If so, what weight? Surely the range will be devastated. Also, is anyone planning to provide charging bays for tow cars with their trailers? Can the same be said of any similar priced EVs? .... Mike H.J. says Yes, the Nissan Ariya will be able to tow up to 1500kg. That’s pretty good and enough to tow a small caravan. Electric cars actually make quite a lot of sense for towing their instant pulling power means it should be a pretty easy and relaxed experience. As you say, though, it’d be interesting to see how much the range is hammered with a caravan in tow. Currently, only expensive electric SUVs like the Tesla Model X, Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron And Jaguar I-Pace are rated for towing. We’re not aware of any companies providing charging bays for tow cars with trailers.

GOLDEN TICKETS SOUGHT FOR LOCAL GAMES: Did we ever think we would see the situation where people are scrambling for tickets for local matches be it GAA or soccer? We are all used to going to Dublin following Kerry or Ireland or travelling with the Boys in Green overseas and spending a lot of the time on the hunt for tickets! But now with the lubricious situation of only 200 in total allowed into local games it has come about that lifelong fans of clubs are unable to go and see their teams in action. And while its bad down here can you imagine the case along the border where clubs playing in the same championship can have either 200 or 400 depending on your location. And it must be noted that the 200 includes squads, management, stewards, media etc allowing around 50 for the fans. Everyone expected that the numbers would have gone up to 500 at the last announcement but this was not the case and it is another case of lazy legislation using the ‘One Size Fits All’ policy. On an aside this was pointed out in the Dail this week by Deputy Michael Healy Rae regarding the holding of outdoor concerts. The law allows drive-in cinema, drive-in bingo and even the drive-in circus – which is great for Circus Vegas as it can now put on shows all around Kerry after months of lockdown, but not the drive-in concerts that had been planned BECAUSE the law doesn’t allow for people on stage!! Now unless you have a huge orchestra or a very small venue most bands are 1m apart anyway. Why I reference this is that it is the result of Lazy Legislating as is the blanket 200 at outdoor events and 50 indoors and as it was when they restricted funerals to 10 and no-one allowed to go to Mass. Back to sporting clubs and we have all either seen social media videos or in person the work done by sports grounds with sanitising stations, signage etc and yet because a civil servant or one of the multitude of health experts who have come out of offices to appear on every television and radio programme advises the Government that an arbitrary number is the same for a GAA or soccer pitch that can seat 40,000, 4,000 or is in open parkland. Last weekend, and this weekend, there are some huge soccer and football games in the county where Chairs and Secretaries of clubs have the headache of trying to work with 50 tickets. It is wrong – these people are some of the most conscientious regarding the Return to Play Protocols of their organisations. As are the lifelong members of the clubs who are now not allowed see these very important games. And yes they are being streamed but that’s a poor second from being there. While it is now too late for this weekend it is not for the weekends going forward. Any politician reading this that might take up the case? TRALEE PITCH AND PUTT MEMBERS DOMINATE: There was a great turn out for the County Strokeplay Championship at the Tralee Pitch and Putt club. Host club member Jason Cregan hit a hole in one in the seniors where his rounds of 4 Friday 31st July 2020

and 9 under gave him a -13 under par winning score. He just saw off his clubmate and last year’s Intermediate winner Eamonn Sheehy by 4 shots. Tralee also enjoyed success at Intermediate level when Michael Conway’s 11 under saw him finish 3 clear of Deerpark’s Lorcan Martin. And more good news for the town club saw Paul O’Shea winning the Junior Championship with count-back denying Tralee a 1-2 when Keith O’Brien lost out on the back nine to Listowel’s Jake Shine. The u16 Championship was held in Deerpark where the Killarney club had a good day. For the first time in almost 20 years more than three clubs had entries showing how much the game is growing. Well done to Tralee’s Ella Moynihan who was the first girl to enter in eight years and who took the Beginners Prize on 145. Deerpark dominated the u16’s with Cillian Courtney three ahead of Robbie Harnett and Fintan Martin in third on the overall leader board. Joey McCarthy won the 10-13 grade from Brian McCarthy. The Tralee Course will be busy with the 36 Hole Scratch Cup on Bank Holiday Monday while some other dates for your diary includes the National Matchpay Qualifiers over 36 holes in Castleisland on Friday evening August 21st and Tralee is also the County u16 Matchplay venue on Saturday August 29th. SOCCER SEASON CONTINUES: The big game of the weekend locally is the Keane’s Jewellers Munster Champions Trophy final at Mounthawk Park where Killarney Celtic take on Rathkeale on Sunday at 2pm with the game being streamed live. Killorglin u17’s have a huge day on Sunday as well with a home FAI U17 semi-final when they take on Parkvilla from Meath at 1pm. From a Tralee point of view The Park youths are at home to Dingle Bay on Saturday 2.30pm while on Sunday in Denny Premier A Tralee Dynamos go to Killarney Athletic at 11.30. They had a good win 2-1 over Classic FC last week thanks to goals from Ivan Kolarevic and Aseged Wolsermariam. The B’s made it a good weekend for Dynamos defeating Rattoo Rovers B 3-0 in Denny Division 2A. MOTOR SPORT NEWS: The Barrett family, headed up by Kevin, who have strong Kerry connections and who run the Triton Showers company have announced that they will continue to sponsor the Irish National Rally Championship. Motorsport Ireland have announced the Killarney and District Motor Club that they have been successful with their request to run the Rentokil Initial Historic Rally a week early on November 28th. The KDMC have also been given permission in the new MI calendar to run their Christmas Autocross on December 29th at the Tralee Racecourse. This was rained off last year so fingers crossed for better weather for this year. Good news for motorbike racer Farranfore’s Kevin Coyne who took 5th place in the Thundersport GP2 Cup series in Donington Park last weekend.

He is preparing for the British SuperBike Championship next month. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2: Following the successful opening round of the various Kerry Petroleum championships last weekend Round 2 continues this Saturday and Sunday. From a Tralee point of view in the Junior Premier Club Football Championship St Pat’s Blennerville are away to Fossa on Saturday night at 7pm. Ballymac are at home to St Michaels Foilmore on Sunday at 2.30pm. In the Intermediate Championship Na Gaeil take on Currow in Tralee at 7pm on Saturday night and John Mitchels travel to Beaufort at 2.30pm on Sunday. In the blue-ribbon Club Championship Kerins O’Rahillys tavel to Killarney to take on Dr Crokes at 7pm on Saturday night, August 1st while at the same time Austin Stacks are at home to Kilcummin in Connolly Park. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The u6’s, u8’s and u10’s all trained in the Academy in Caherslee last Sunday and will be in action again this weekend in Caherslee. The u10’s will go to Na Gaeil for a challenge game on Sunday. The u12’s were in Lee Strand County League action with the ‘Black’ team going down away to Castlegregory. In Tralee Team 1 took on Churchill A in Tralee with the visitors taking the win as did the Churchill B’s over Stacks B. The three teams will be in action again this weekend. The u14 A’s and B’s were in mid-week action and we will have their results next week. The B’s enjoyed a good run-out against St Pat’s. The u16’s had a good opening win to their League defeating Rahilly’s and are at home to Ballymac in their next game. PARNELL’S NEWS: The u12’s enjoyed a good 6-07 to 4-03 away win over Kilmoyley in Round 2 of the League. Both sides put in a good performance despite the blustery and wet conditions. Parnells led 2-04 to 2-02 at the break and added 4 goals to 2 in the second half. The 14’s went down 3-12 to 4-14 away at Ballyduff. The first half was tight with Parnells leading 2-05 to 1-06 and the break but two quick goals early in the second half set the North Kerry boys on their way to winning. Next up they face Lixnaw on the Bank Holiday Monday. The u14 Girls started their County Championship campaign last night, Thursday night with a series of games in Caherslee. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was a great turn-out for the u6’s, u8’s and u10’s in the Academy and they will be practising hard all week ahead of this Sunday’s training sessions. The u12’s were involved in a high scoring encounter with Dingle winning 5-12 to 5-08 coming back from a 10 point half time deficit. They travel to Castlegregory this Sunday at 6pm. The u14’s went down to Stack’s B while the u16’s were in action in mid-week at home to Tarbert. The Minors are out on this Monday, the Bank Holiday, when they take on St Kieran’s in Round 1of their

The club’s Cul Camp will take place from the 3rd to the 7th of August under the GAA’s protocols. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NOTES: The seniors just lost out to Kenmare Shamrocks 2-09 to 0-13 in the Senior Club championship Round 1. They now face a big game away to Dr Crokes this Saturday with a win vital in the hopes of progressing. The minors are not in action until August 15th when they will be at home to Currow while all the ages in the Juvenile Academy are enjoying their weekly session in Ballyrickard and are practising all week at home! New members are always welcomed at the club. The u16’s defeated Churchill in the League while the u14’s opened their campaign against John Mitchels in midweek. There were 3 teams in action with a win and a draw against Ballymac and a close loss to Brosna. All the Academy sides had a great session and will all be back this Sunday. BALLYMAC NOTES: The seniors just saw off Churchill by 2 points 0-15 to 1-10 with the sides being level at half time. They play St Michael’s Foilmore at home at 2.30 this Sunday.
