Celebrating 31 years 1988-2019
Established 1988
WHATS DIFFERENT ABOUT BROOKFIELD?
Elisha "This year , we celebrate working with students for 31 years , since 1988 " says Principal Elisha Dowling . "I like to emphasise the word 'with' as it conveys the approach we take with all students who come here ...We have created an atmosphere in the College where students are expected and encouraged to perform to the best of their ability. The most important part of this equation (yes , Elisha also teaches Maths!) has to be our teachers .At present we have 15 teachers in the school , all highly qualified teachers who are motivated and enthusiastic about teaching ...They just love teaching ...and that does come out in the students! And because there is rarely any changeover of teachers , that gives our students consistency ..very important in the exam years . We dont have uniforms and teachers are known on a first name basis... this all fosters maturity amongst the students. All our students are given regular assessments and each is assigned a tutor who meets with them several times during the year , discussing progress and giving both advice and guidance.Career guidance also gets priority during the Senior Cycle as we find it answers a lot of questions that students may have and gives them clarification. Its very satisfying to hear, maybe even a few years after they've gone that former students have found their time with us to be hugely positive... thats enough for me "
Elisha

S ON 066-714 In an Irish Times survey conducted on Irelands best College Feeder schools, 5896 Brookfield emerged as one of the top 2 schools in Ireland . The survey noted that 100% of all Brookfield students who sat the Leaving Cert in 2012 went onto third level education . This puts Brookfield ahead of other schools in large urban areas such as Dublin , Cork , Galway and Limerick . According to Principal Elisha Dowling " We have an extremely high standard set here and in my experience when you combine excellent teachers who are highly motivated with an atmosphere that demands the greatest effort from the students , this can have a significant positive effect on an individuals results !"
JUST SOME OF OUR REVIEWS ........................................... We were enormously impressed not only by the quality of the teaching but also by the very obvious commitment you have to fulfil each students potential. (Parents review)
Very structured way of teaching and makes sure everyone gets what they're capable of achieving.
Would not be where I am today if it were not for him. He made us all believe in ourselves
There is so much more to Brookfield than studying!
It was nice to be treated like an adult for a change
Great Teacher...Very approachable which is a big plus! Went from a D average to getting a B+

Casement Remembered: A gathering of up to 40 people attended the Roger Casement
Commemoration in Lios Mhic Easmainn on Saturday last. The patriot’s execution in Pentonville Prison, London, 103 years ago to the day, was recalled and his humanitarian work in The Congo and in The Putumayo as well as his efforts to achieve Irish freedom was discussed by guest speakers Donncha Ó hAodha, iar-uachtarán Chonradh na Gaeilge, and Mícheál Ó Ruairc, scoláire Gaeilge, file agus údar. Casement’s great interest in our native language and its importance to us as a people was also part of the day’s discussion. Seán Seosamh Ó Conchubhair, a local historian who has worked tirelessly for many years in promoting the memory of his hero, also spoke. Pádraig Mac Fhearghusa, cathaoirleach Chonradh na Gaeilge, introduced the speakers agus labhair sé faoi Mac Easmainn. Also present was Celene Slattery whose father knew Casement. Irish airs and Amhrán na bhFiann were played by Donncha Ó Raghallaigh, píobaire, agus chabhraigh an slua leis. Agus d’fhan an bháisteach go dtí go raibh gach éinne imithe ón Lios!

CHOOSING A MAKEUP ARTIST FOR YOUR WEDDING There are lots of different Makeup Artists out there and choosing the right one for you and your style is very important, especially if it’s an important event or a wedding. Pictures last forever and you don’t want to end up spending time and money only to end up disappointed.
DO RESEARCH
First and foremost, look up a few Makeup Artists in your area. Look at their work, look at their qualifications and look and their experience. If you know someone who got their makeup done by that Makeup Artist, message them, ask how they got on. Everyone has different tastes in makeup so make sure that if you like dramatic makeup the artist can do that or if you’re more on the natural side make sure they can do that.
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY The Makeup Artist you’re choosing is a professional. He/She has a craft and should charge according to their experience and training. If you’re looking for the cheapest person for the job, they mightn’t necessarily be the best, and the same goes for the most expensive. If it’s your wedding, I
recommend not to skimp on your Makeup Artist, it’s one day, pay a bit extra for better quality. On another note, just because a Makeup Artist uses expensive high end brands, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re good.
HAVE A TRIAL
If it’s a wedding day or even a debs or graduation, if you’re anyway unsure, have a trial! That way you can see how the Makeup Artist works and how the makeup stays on.
KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TELL THE MAKEUP ARTIST WHAT YOU
WANT. There is absolutely no point telling her “do what you think is best”. There are SO many different looks and styles of makeup, how on earth is he/ she supposed to know how you like to look? If you want a purple smokey eye. If you don’t like heavy coverage or strong contouring. If you only wear liquid eyeliner. Just tell him/her! Your Makeup Artist is not a mind reader, if she has no guide on what you want, she won’t be able to
do her job to the best of their ability.
LISTEN TO HIS/HER OPINION/SUGGESTIONS
They’re the professional after all, well I hope. If you go in with a picture of Kim Kardashian but are pale with blonde hair and blue eyes, you will not look like Kim Kardashian. If you want a really detailed cut crease eyeshadow look but have hooded eyes, your Makeup Artist should recommend a different style because detailed cut creases don’t show up on hooded eyes, but, if that’s what you want, they should do it. What I’m saying is, your Makeup Artist will be a master at their craft, they should have spent time studying face and eye shapes, they should know what works for your skin type and colouring, hair colour, eye colour and face shape. They should take into account your face and what would enhance your already beautiful features and should recommend what they think will work best. If you trust their opinion listen to them. If they turn you into a clone of every other client they have ever done, you know not to return.

WEIGHT TRAINING
Hello my strong friends, this week I’m talking all about weight training and how it can help you achieve your goals!
In general, people will practice cardio(running, cycling etc) and forget about weight training when it comes to burning fat. And there are still many trainers who will say that aerobic exercises burn off fat and weight lifting is only used to build muscle bulk. This statement is not correct because the more muscle mass one acquires through weight-bearing exercises, the more they will burn fat calories — even at rest. Cardio combined with weight training will result in effective fat loss. Cardio exercises will raise muscle metabolism during the activity and for a short time after the exercise session. Weight training, on the other hand, will raise your muscle metabolism during the exercise session — and for a long time after the exercise session. Some high intensity trainers have even seen their metabolism rise for several days following their training session. Whether your goal is to tone or build muscles, it is important to know what happens during the muscle training process. When lifting weights, muscle tissues are torn apart (at the microscopic level) from the stress, and it's in the recovery period that your muscles become stronger and, therefore, able to support the extra stress. Usually the recovery period required is 24 to 48 hours after a weight training session so it’s good to train different muscle groups on different days.
My current training split looks a bit like this… DAY 1 – LEGS DAY 2 – UPPER BODY DAY 3 – LEGS DAY 4 – UPPER BODY DAY 5 – LEGS DAY 6 - REST DAY DAY 7 - ACTIVE REST DAY It is so so SO important to fuel your body efficiently when weight training. You need to give yourself the correct food especially carbs and protein, so that your muscles recover and you have energy to fuel your sessions. If you are in any way confused about nutrition and what you should be eating, get in touch with a good well informed personal trainer. I highly recommend Recalibrated Bodies, they strive to inform all their clients on why they’re eating what they’re eating and don’t cut out ‘bad’ foods. If you go to a personal trainer who tells you to basically eat plain chicken, broccoli and rice or something to that effect… RUN!!! A good PT won’t cut out food groups or drastically cut carbs, trust me.Anybody who debates the fact that weight-bearing exercises don't help people lose weight and fat should lift weights for one hour and see their heart rate go through the roof. I definitely sweat a lot more when I do a good weights session.
An important factor to consider when trying to lose weight is that lots of muscle mass can be lost as a result. As muscle mass will keep your metabolism high, try to avoid quick weight loss through miracle diets or starvation. This weight loss will be regained just as quickly. Instead go for a gradual fat loss routine by combining weight training and cardio, and allow muscle mass to build up and increase your metabolism. Results may take a little longer, but they will last for a longer period of time. If you do a quick fix weightloss ‘diet’ then you won’t get the results you actually want. Just don’t focus on how long it will take to get to your goals, just focus on yourself day by day and the changes will come, I promise.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2019
Its Summer Time! Tomato time! Tomatoes are in season at the moment and there are so many varieties to choose from so here is an excellent recipe to use, to feed the family or a few good friends.
ROASTED CURRY TOMATO PIE
Serves 8
INGREDIENTS PASTRY CRUST • 1 1/2 cups flour (about 6 3/8 ounces), plus more for work surface • 1 teaspoon salt • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper • 1/2 cup cold butter (4 ounces), cubed • 4 to 5 tablespoons ice water • TAMARIND ONIONS • 2 tablespoons oil • 1/2 large red onion, thinly sliced into halfmoons (about 1 3/4 cups) • 1/2 teaspoon salt • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper • 1 tablespoon tamarind
FILLING • 2 pounds ripe red medium-size and cherry tomatoes • 1/2 tablespoon Madras curry powder • 1 teaspoon salt, divided • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded • 2 ounces sharp white cheddar cheese, shredded • 1/2 medium red onion, finely chopped • 1/2 cup mayonnaise • 1 serrano chile, stemmed, seeded, and finely chopped • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper • 1 tablespoon olive oil • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
METHOD Step 1 Make the pastry crust - Pulse flour, salt, turmeric, and black pepper in a food processor until combined. Add butter, and pulse until mixture is crumbly and butter is cut into small bits, about 10 times. Slowly add 4 tablespoons ice water while pulsing, adding up to 1 more tablespoon ice water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until dough comes together and forms a ball. Wrap , and refrigerate until chilled, about 30 minutes. Step 2 Make the tamarind onions - Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high until shimmering. Stir in onion, salt, black pepper, and red pepper. Cook, stirring often, until onion is translucent, about 10 minutes. Stir in tamarind until combined. Remove from heat, and set aside. Step 3 Make the filling - Preheat oven to 160c. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with 2 layers of parchment. Cut medium-size tomatoes into 1/2-inch-thick slices; cut cherry tomatoes in half. Place tomatoes on tray; sprinkle one side with curry powder and ½ teaspoon salt; flip and sprinkle the other side with remaining ½ teaspoon salt. Let stand 10 minutes. Step 4 - Stir together cheeses, onion, mayonnaise, serrano, and red pepper in a large bowl. On a floured surface, roll pastry dough into a 12-inch circle or oval, trimming edges, if needed. Transfer dough to a parchment paper–lined baking sheet. Spread cheese mixture over dough, leaving a 2 1/2-inch border around edge. (You may not need all of cheese mixture.) Layer sliced tomatoes, curry side down, on cheese mixture; fill in with cherry tomatoes. Top with tamarind onions. Fold exposed border of dough circle toward center, pleating as necessary. Drizzle tomatoes and onions with olive oil; brush exposed crust with egg. Step 5 - Bake in preheated oven until filling is bubbling and crust is golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes. Let cool 10 minute

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE "Oopps... Sorry folks last week, we printed the same joke twice. And we know how everyone loves our 'Laughter..the best medicine" page... so this week we are running extra jokes on the page ...please enjoy! "... Chris ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A PERSON WITH A PARROT Once upon a time there was a person with a parrot, the parrot was rude and often sweared to get what it wanted. One day, the owner couldn’t take it anymore, and decided to put the parrot in the freezer. The parrot started squawking profanities, until it finally stopped. The owner, in fear, opened the freezer door only to find the parrot hop onto his shoulder and say “ I apologise for my seemingly rude behaviour, I will try to change my behaviour and be nicer.” The owner, hearing this, feels happy. KERRY AIRPORT CHOSEN AS BASE FOR NEW AUDI Q7 TEST DRIVES
KERRY Airport’s role as a major gateway to Ireland’s most scenic area received a major boost when Audi (Germany) chose the county of Kerry as its base to showcase the new Q7 to motor journalists from around the world. Over a two-week period from the 16th to 27th July 2019, journalists came to Kerry from as far away as the Middle East, Canada, China, Japan and Europe to test drive the new Audi Q7 around the Ring of Kerry and Slea Head. The Chief Executive of Kerry Airport, John Mulhern, said: “We are honoured that Audi, a premium car brand, selected Kerry Airport as the base for this major promotional event. The programme included daily private charter flights from Munich to Kerry with almost 300 journalists arriving from all over the globe. Not only did they experience the convenience of traveling through an efficient regional airport, they were also treated to the wonderful hospitality and majestic scenery that is unique to the Kingdom of Kerry.” The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Mr Brendan Griffin, welcomed the Audi delegation when they first arrived into Kerry. Images of Kerry, its many incredible and iconic vistas, are now appearing in journals, social media platforms and in print all over the world. John Mulhern said that the Audi team are planning a return visit to Kerry: “It certainly proves that Kerry can hold its own on the world stage as a giant in tourism and a commercial destination to attract this type of unique business. The Audi team were so impressed with both Kerry and the welcome they received they plan to return.” He thanked the team from Audi for choosing Kerry Airport as their base for the project and for their professionalism throughout which resulted in little or no impact on the day-to-day running of the airport during the peak tourism season. He also thanked Paudie McCarthy of Eleco Electrical, Fire & Security Services.
WILL EVS EVER HAVE THESE CLASSIC CARS CHARM ? I wonder will the cars of the electric era ever hold their charm to anything like the extent those of bygone days have done. The thought struck me as I picked my way around the exhibits at the Dalkey Vintage Festival on Monday. At the invitation of the evergreen Larry Mooney, I was there to pick a winner. I looked at, in and around every car several times. It was a delight to savour the E-Types, the Minis, the Mercs, the Alfas . . . not to mention a few stunning Porsches. The place was packed; everyone was in great form. I think it's fair to say we were all lifted by the sight of some wonderful-looking models. Yes, there was a hint of petrol fumes - in some cases thanks to the array of motorbikes arriving. And yes there was the sheen and shine of classics. What a feeling it was to see models from so many eras at their resplendent best. I wonder will electric cars ever evoke such sentiment in 20 to 50 years time? I doubt it.(Eddie Cunningham )
CIRCLE K AND NISSAN TURN ON THE POWER
Circle K's high-powered electric vehicle charging network expanded recently when an IONITY charge station was unveiled at its premises in Gorey (on the M11). There is one already at Cashel.Four more stations are planned over the next few months: at Athlone on the M6, Kill South on the M7, Kill North and City North on the M1. All have up to six high-speed EV charge points (with 350kw charging capacity each).Circle K Ireland managing director Gordon Lawlor says there will be an increased demand for access to convenient fast-charging.IONITY's Paul Entwistle said stations like Gorey will make a "significant contribution" to the take-up of electrical vehicles. IT'S 'payback time' for EVs as they will soon be able to light up your home or business. Thanks to new X-Storage technology from Nissan, you'll be able to fill your EV's battery with cheap night-rate electricity and then feed it back into your home, or office, during the day when higher prices apply. It was recently officially unveiled here at Nissan's new headquarters by Climate Minister Richard Bruton. The company is using the technology and solar energy to power its headquarters at Park West business park. The X-Storage technology goes on sale commercially next year. Friday 2nd August 2019

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR ARE THE SPORTING GODS CONSPIRING AHEAD OF NEXT WEEKEND: There are those that believe that everything is pre-ordained and that while every team will put in every effort to give themselves the best chance somewhere in the Universe the decision is already sorted. Let’s go with that theory for a minute. Could it be that Mayo will beat Dublin and thwart their 5-ina-row bid. The Westerns will have 30 other counties supporting them on Saturday. And after all they have suffered over the last decade who would begrudge them a day in the sun in Croke Park where they come out on the right side of a game against Dublin. And of course we must remember that Mayo came within a point of the Dubs and also gave the Blues two own goals on one occasion so a win has not been very far away. Yes Dublin are hot favourites but they have yet to be challenged since last year’s win and can they just up the pace to the level of intensity that Mayo will being. If Jim Gavin was honest a dead rubber game against Tyrone a week out from the All Ireland semifinals was the last thing he would ask for. And on that point it really is wrong for all four counties that they have only 6 or 7 days turn-around from the final Super 8 game to the semi-finals. Surely the calendar can be tweaked to give a two week break from the Last 8 game to the semi-finals. Back to Dublin and Mayo and while the bookies and most people will have Dublin as favourites I still think there is a sporting matchmaker up there somewhere that is contemplating the biggest upset since a certain Kerry Offaly game. So then that leaves the next instalment of the Kerry Tyrone rivalry. Mikey Harte’s team have had an Indian sign over Kerry but this is a new bunch of Kerry players who don’t have any history with Tyrone. Kerry have been impressive in part and we all know going forward how good they can be. We certainly need David Clifford back but a fully loaded Kerry attack could be enough to break down whatever defensive strategy Harte and his back room staff come up with. The question then is can Kerry at midfield and in defence hold Tyrone and can we win our fair share of the kick outs. Teams under Peter Keane have a great record in big games and in Croke Park. Yes this is a step up to the highest level but nothing suggests that he or the team will be overawed by the task in hand. And so could the bookies be doubly Friday 2nd August 2019
wrong. They have a Dublin Tyrone pairing as favourites to contest the decider. Interestingly they have a Kerry Dublin final as the next in the betting. I think I like the idea that there is a sporting matchmaker sitting in the heavens still trying to make up his mind as to how he will pre-ordain the outcome of this weekend’s big football games. We will never know this for sure but if on Sunday at 5pm we are looking forward to a Kerry Mayo final it might be worth a quick look skywards and mouthing a silent thank-you!! THE HAPPY AND SAD EMOTIONS OF SPORT IN A MINUTE: I was reminded of the full range of emotions that sport can evoke in us and can take us from happy to sad in a minute. On Monday night I was engrossed in the wonderful documentary on RTE ‘When Michael met Davy’. It featured Killarney’s Michael O’Brien who captured our hearts on the Late Late Toy Show and was invited by Davy Fitzgerald to give the team talk before the Wexford Tipperary National League game (and Wexford won by a last minute point so going back to my piece above was all this pre-ordained by the sporting gods!!) Michael, who is blind but can see in his own way a lot more than many of us with ‘perfect sight’ can see. He was a credit to his family and school and an inspiration with a speech that was a strong as the most experienced coach or manager could give. But from that high I was looking at some sporting social media sites and came across the death of the 22 year cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht after a fall in the Tour of Poland. The death of any young sports person is very sad and we can all think of those that we knew that were taken too soon. So if there is anything to be taken for these events it’s to enjoy and celebrate the great things sports brings because there will be sad times as well. Sport mirrors life and death. PARNELL’S NEWS:

He finished ahead of his Killarney CC club mate Marcus Treacy (4.34.5) and Jerry McCarthy third in 4.59.2. We will have the full results next week. Youth Tour: The talent in underage cycling in Kerry was again proved with some great performances in the Errigal Youth Tour alongside the best young riders in the country. IN THE WATER: ANNA COMPETE CROSS CHANNEL RELAY SWIM: Normally found in Tralee Bay Anna McCarthy was swimming in different waters this week. She was part of a 3 person – along with 2 English men – relay team that completed the Cross Channel swim in 14 hours and 42 minutes with each swimmer in the water for over 5 hours. Speaking after her big achievement Anna said “I am wrecked but delighted. There was a tough start where nearly swimmer was ill. However when the sun rose things were better and I pushed the boys on to keep up the place. We are all delighted with the way the swim went and must thank our support boat. Locally all eyes are on the Across The Bay Swim in Aid of Fenit RNLI Lifeboat. Swimmers need to qualify for this swim by completing a certain distance and a group of swimmers have been in training over the last few weeks for this iconic swim. Next Up: Plans are going well for the next attempt by Kerry swimmers to cross the channel. The Channel Swim and Boat team for the September attempt are John O’Sullivan, Elaine Burrows Dillane, Gerard McDonnell, Kevin Williams and Muireann Ni Dhuilleain. In the Bay: The Donald Walsh Swim, sponsored by Dominick Walsh Photography, was moved from Tuesday to Wednesday this week and we will have the full results next week – once the weather cooperated!! The entries have now closed for the Across the Bay Challenge swim which is set for August 10th with the proceeds in aid of the Fenit RNLI Lifeboats. MOTORSPORT WEEKEND ROUND-UP Locally the action was at the Tralee Racecourse where the Killarney and District Motor Club hosted the Jimmy Devane Memorial Autocross. A big entry enjoyed the day’s competition over a very fast and exciting track. (There is huge potential for the site at Ballybeggan to be turned into a multi-purpose sports venue with the auto cross track, a cross country running course, cycle racing and off track cycling course etc but that’s another story.) Back to the results and in Class 1 Gary Lordon took the win and the

Fastest Saloon from Damien Nagle and Colm Hayes. Class 2 was won by George Shinnors from Mike Casey and Austin Shinnors. Class 3 went to Naill McLarnon, Class 4 to Gerard O’Connell, Class 5 and the fastest 4 wheel drive was Michael O’Connor Senior, Class 6 to Mac Walsh, Class 9 – the Novice- to Kerry youngest rally driver Mossie Costello who won from Dean Murphy and Cathal Mulcaire. Class 10 was won by Paul Furlong with Jessica Long the fastest lady. From the host club Michael O’Donoghue was the fastest with Gavin Bro the Best Newcomer. Waterford’s Craig Breen celebrated his return to the World Rally Championship on his debut drive for the works Hyundai team by taking seventh place against top class opposition in Rally Finland which finished yesterday. Breen and his regular co-driver Killarney’s Paul Nagle would have beaten Hyundai team leader Thierry Neuville into sixth place but for a twenty seconds road penalty which left the Belgian ace 5.8 seconds ahead of the Irish pair. TRALEE BOYS TAKE 16TH AT BASKETBALL EUROS: The Ireland Under 18 men, featuring Tralee’s Rapolas Buivydas, Leeroy Odiahio and Daire Kennelly, finished in 16th place from 24 teams at the 2019 FIBA U18 Men’s European Championship Division B in Romania this morning, following a 91-66 point loss to Hungary in their final classification game. The boys in green fought hard against a tough Hungary side, with Rapolas Buivydas finishing the game out with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Matt Harper had his shooting boots on once more, finishing out with 17 points for his side. It wasn’t to be today for the lads though as despite a strong first half seeing them trail Hungary by just four (44-40). Speaking afterwards, head coach Paul Kelleher stated: “That was a tough one, maybe a game too far with the energy levels after yesterday. This is a special group and they’ve given everything. They had a run in the middle of the fourth, we were right there. It was just one of those things. These boys have given everything and have had a tremendous year. A top 16 finish is great and hasn’t happened in a while... we’ll look back on this as a successful programme.” Next Up: The strength of Kerry basketball is evident again this week when the Irish U16 Girls travel to Germany for two games. On the squad are Castleislands Paris McCarthy and Kenmare’s Tania Slavado. NEW GIRLS SOCCER TEAM IN NORTH KERRY:
Ballyheigue Athletic FC will field an U13 Girls Team for upcoming 2019/20 season. Players born 2007/2008/2009 from surrounding areas are welcome. Training begins 27th August 7pm-8pm at Banna Astroturf by FAI Qualified coach. A 2 Week free trial will be allowed before committing to registration. Contact Margaret on 087 9509886for more information. This is a new venture for the club so come along for a great opportunity for fun, exercise and a competitive team sport. LEAGUE OF IRELAND BACK: The Underage League of Ireland returns this week with the u13’s and u19’s at home in Mounthawk Park on Sunday to Glaway United and Shelbourne respectively. The 15’s and 19’s are away. There is a big game at Mounthawk Park next Wednesday August 14th when the 17’s face Galway in the quarter final of the Mark Farran Memorial Cup kicking off at 7.30pm. ON THE GREENS: KERRY PITCH AND PUTT NEWS: OVER 109 players took part in Monday’s Listowel Scratch Cup as Tralee’s Jason O’Regan won the event for the fourth time but for the first time in 18 years with a 54-hole total of 18 under par for a two-stroke win. Jason had a four shot lead over the field after the first 36 holes with 16 under par but despite only improving his score by a further two strokes in the playoff it was enough to hold off Cork’s John Walsh and Castleisland’s James Dignan who both had six under par rounds in the playoffs to finish on 16 under with Walsh claiming second from James on a better back nine. The Last 18 prize was won by Deerpark’s Kieran Fitzpatrick, another player to shoot six under in the playoff as Tom O’Connor from the host club won the Intermediate with 10 under par, one ahead of Deerpark’s Gearoid Cronin on nine under. Tralee’s Pa Fitzgibbon had seven under in winning the Junior section meanwhile, one ahead of John Carey from the host club on six under. The Ladies prizes went to Cork’s Paula Nolan (0-10) and Tipperary’s Margaret Courtney (11-18). This weekend sees the Munster Inter-County Championships take place in Hillview, Clonmel, Co Tipperary as the county has five teams taking part in four events. On Saturday the Juniors Mens team are in action managed by Tralee’s John Fitzgerald. On Sunday Kerry are the defending champions in the Intermediate with three of last year’s team, Gearóid Cronin and John O’Brien (Deerpark) along with Tralee’s Eamon Sheehy joined by Listowel’s Richard Bunyan, Tralee’s Danny O’Leary and

37 Deerpark’s Adam Kelly this year as Castleisland’s Aidan O’Connor manages the side. The U-16’s have two sides in the event again this year as they bid to make it three-in-a-row for the county at this level. Kerry’s Senior Men’s side on Sunday meanwhile is made up of Deerpark duo Damien Fleming and John McGrath, Castleisland’s James Dignan and Aidan O’Connor and Tralee duo Alan Hobbart and Jamie Blake as Deerpark’s Sean Kelly is the manager of the side. The County Board wishes all five Kerry teams the best of luck in Hillview this weekend.
