Says Wayne Murphy , Fitness Instructor in Manor Gym “The athletic development camp was an opportunity for student athletes to gain an insight into the different areas of athletic performance. The goal of the camp was to create an environment where through theory and very much through training practical based settings, we would educate, create an awareness of the many areas of athletic performance and get athletes to visualise the pathway ahead in their 6

TOURISM MINISTER BRENDAN GRIFFIN BRIEFED ON BREXIT BY TOURISM IRELAND IN LONDON Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, is visiting London this week. Earlier in the week he met with the Tourism Ireland team, where he was briefed on the organisation’s 2017 promotional programme and the possible implications on travel of the decision by the UK to leave the EU. Great Britain is a vital market for tourism to the island of Ireland. It delivers 47% of all overseas visitors and around 30% of all overseas tourism revenue. Tourism Ireland is determined to defend its share of this most competitive market. Minister Griffin said: “I was delighted to visit the Tourism Ireland office in London today and have an opportunity to meet with the excellent staff who continue to promote Ireland in a vital market. We discussed the decline in British visitors and explored options to make Ireland even more attractive to the potential UK visitor. Overall numbers of visitors to Ireland are up substantially and I want to help make sure that numbers from the UK increase too. Convenience, quality and the value for money message are more important than ever in Britain right now and together we are exploring ideas that will 8

The decline in the value of sterling has made holidays and short breaks in Ireland more expensive, which is in turn impacting on travel from Britain, as evidenced in the latest CSO figures – which confirm a decline of -6.4% in British visitor numbers to Ireland for the first half of 2017.

JEFF AND KAMMY’S JOURNEY TO CROKER.... IN DINGLE ...THEY MEET THE MASTER! AIB, sponsors of the AllIreland Championship, have brought Jeff & Kammy to Dingle on the next stop on their Journey to Croker.
Episode 2 in now available to view on youtube In this weeks second episode the excitable duo start out with a lesson about commentary from Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh, the doyen of Irish sports broadcasting in his native Kerry. As the episode reveals, getting their heads around a game that involves 15 players a-side and scoring over and below the bar is a bit of a culture shock. With the legendary Micheál on hand to help them commentate on a local U15 club game, they have the best possible muinteoir and were left in awe by his unique commentary style. “He knew something about every single player, like who was a grandson or a greatgrandson of who? It was just amazing!” said Kammy. “He was talking about players 10

like ‘his great, great granddad now, he was the first cab driver in Dingle!’ He’d done all that homework on these kids!” Ó Muircheartaigh’s beloved style and depth of knowledge, plus the length of his 62year broadcasting career, mesmorised Stelling.
“Micheál is truly a legend,” he said. “His name may be harder to pronounce than David Attenborough but you can understand the comparisons, especially for someone to have done what he has done for over 60 years. “The only commentators I could compare to him are Peter O’Sullevan or Micháel O Hehir when they did horseracing, where they had that same legendary status. “And the other great thing is that he’s got humour. We hope and feel that our show is informative and opinionated but also that it’s got some humour. That’s what you need in a great commentator and Micheál has that too.” “He tried to give us some insights into the tactics and Friday 11th August 2017
really stressed ‘know the rules and some of the terminology,’” he explained. ‘Jeff and Kammy’s Road to

As The New Academic Year Begins Have you a spare room in Tralee to rent? Under the Irish government’s ‘Rent A Room Relief Scheme’ you can rent out a spare room in your house, tax free, if the income does not exceed €14,000 each year. This extra income could supplement your mortgage repayments, or you could go on that long overdue holiday! On the 16th of August thousands of students will receive their leaving certificate results and the rush to prepare for life at third level will begin. However it is not until after the CAO offers are made that the search for accommodation can begin in earnest. Nationally there is a shortage of student accommodation and in order to combat this the government has recently increased the amount you can earn tax-free from renting a room to private tenants in your home. This offers a great incentive to rent out your spare room and students can have flexibility in the types of housing they need, sometimes requiring a twelve week semester tenancy or a full academic year, making it easier for you to decide how long you wish to rent your room for.

IT TRALEE STUDENTS SEEKING ACCOMMODATION
Friday 11th August 2017
For you to qualify for ‘Rent-a Room Relief’, your home must be your sole residence during the year of assessment. This means that it is your home for the greater part of the year and is where people would normally expect to make contact with you. You do not have to own the property – you could be a tenant and be sub-letting to someone else (in such cases, you would have to check with your own landlord that sub-letting is allowed!). The relief applies only to residential tenancies, not to short-term guest arrangements. The occupants must be using the room on a long-term basis. For example, renting a room to a student for the academic year or for one semester is covered, but taking in guests for short breaks is not.
Under the Irish you can rent o If you qualify for Rent-a-Room Relief, you don’t have to register as a landlord with the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB) and are not bound tothe the rights and obligations do income that this entails. This makes renting out a room in your property a lot less bureaucratic and formal than it would be otherwise income could s IT Tralee is currently listing all available accommodation available in Tralee for student rental. Andrew Ong, who has worked in a number of restaurants in Mayo, Galway and Dublin, said: “We are truly honoured that the Roses will celebrate our 12th birthday with us next week. Just like our regular customers, from the minute they sit down, the Roses will quickly realise that Tamarind is different. We aim to offer patrons an affordable and reasonably priced quality food in comfortable surroundings; flavourful foods that makes you come back for more.” Tamarind serves mouthwatering Asian street food & fusion, known as ‘Modern Asian Cuisine’. Curry Cheese Prawns; Guinness Honey Ribs as well as the popular Minangkabau Rendang dishes are just a few of what Tamarind offers.
Friday 11th August 2017
Tamarind is fully booked out for that night but Andrew and Angeline have extended an open invitation to everyone to come down and meet the Roses at the front of the restaurant on Wednesday 16th August around 6pm.
The restaurant is also running a special three-course set dinner at just €15 per person to coincide with this year’s Rose of Tralee festival from the 16th to 22nd August.

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING A GREAT WEEK! I’m home from Thailand, and had an absolutely amazing time! Aside from a few hikes, absolutely no exercise was done. I enjoyed my holiday to the absolute fullest and didn’t worry about food or exercise or anything like that once - how it should be. Now that I’m home, I cannot wait to get back into the gym. I have my gym membership organised and plan on going back tomorrow to get myself back into it!
Going forward now, I’m going to take my measurements and go back to my macros that I was using before my holidays and see how my body reacts. It’s funny that now that’s I’ve had a break from my routine, I can’t wait to get back into it! So tomorrow is definitely Leg Day! I’m not going to “keep the holidays going until Monday”, simply because I don’t want to. I’ve had enough holidays now and I love going to the gym. I’m so happy I’ve got to the this place with the gym, it took a while but everything worth while does. So if you’re looking for that sign or you’re thinking about starting Monday, start today!

STRAWBERRY RED... as a Rose!
Irish strawberries are some of the best tasting in the world, and are bang in season right now. So here are two lovely recipes to use.... Tip...when buying from the farmers market or your local shop, make sure to buy Irish ones. At our restaurant here in Croì, in the Square, Tralee we actually grow our own! Its so easy to do and very rewarding!
BABY LETTUCES WITH FETA, STRAWBERRIES AND ALMONDS
STRAWBERRY, TOMATO AND FENNEL GAZPACHO

METHOD
Step 1 In a small bowl, stir together the mustard, honey, shallot and vinegar. Stir in the olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Step 2 Put the lettuces in a large bowl. Add the strawberries, feta and almonds. Drizzle the dressing over the salad, toss well and serve.
• • • • • • • • • • • •
One 7-inch piece of baguette, crust removed 2 pounds tomatoes, 2 tablespoons finely diced, the rest chopped 2 pounds strawberries, hulled and 2 tablespoons finely diced, the rest chopped 1 large green bell pepper, 2 tablespoons finely diced, the rest chopped 1/4 medium fennel bulb, 2 tablespoons finely diced, the rest thinly sliced 1 1/2 cups sparkling mineral water 2 garlic cloves, minced Salt Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling

Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, strawberries, pepper and fennel. Refrigerate until chilled. Step 3 Spoon the diced mixture into shallow soup bowls and ladle the gazpacho on top. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... FREE HSE COURSES ON TYPE 2 DIABETES TO BE HELD IN TRALEE Kerry people living with Type 2 Diabetes are being invited to take part in a free six-week education course this September. The XPERT course will be run by HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare Community Dieticians. Patients can be referred by GPs and practise nurses. The group-based course is run over six weeks and each session runs for 2 ½ hours. It is delivered locally by a community dietitian. It is reported that there are 200,000 people in Ireland with Type 2 Diabetes and 80% of those who are diagnosed are overweight. This is an ideal course to help the participants understand diabetes more, manage their weight, prevent diabetes health problems and improve their overall wellbeing. Recommending the course, Dr Clodagh Kenny, Dingle said: “The Xpert Diabetes Course is a sociable and interactive way to learn the science
behind diabetes and also how to manage diabetes through diet and exercise. It is run by dietitians and the bit that stands out for me is the clever use of props. These are used to explain the more complex medical effects of diabetes. It’s a really fantastic way to learn. All diabetic patients and health care professionals partaking in diabetes care should get involved with the Xpert diabetes course.” Long-term lifestyle changes can make all the difference in preventing any unwanted complications such as problems with poor blood glucose readings, problems with the heart and circulation, feet, eyes, kidneys and so on. All of these complications can be avoided if it is effectively managed and treated and this is what the course aims to do. This is an interactive course and participants are welcome to bring a partner or family member for support. It is held in local community or HSE venues. There has been
very positive feedback from participants and GPs involved. It is an enjoyable and fun learning experience and has proven very successful in the past. Some comments from past participants: “This programme has made me aware of what I must know about diabetes. It’s good to know how to prevent complications occurring” Mary, aged 52, Kerry “I am more at ease with diabetes from what I have learned and I’m able to better control it”. John, aged 68, Cork.
“Since I was diagnosed in 2008 I had been searching high and low for the very information that this course provides”. Nuala, aged 46, Wicklow. XPERT will be run in the autumn in Tralee, Listowel, Dingle and Killarney. Courses begin in the first two weeks in September, and participants need to register by the end of August. For more details and to book a place on a free course in your area log onto www.hse.ie/ xpert or phone 1850 24 1850.
DID YOU KNOW THAT 27 PEOPLE DIE OF HEART ATTACK IN IRELAND EVERY DAY?
Heartwave Cardio Screening is coming to your area soon, with the revolutionary BPro pulse wave analysis device, providing affordable and accurate heart and artery screenings. The BPro and A-Pulse Casp has been developed by Healthstats in Singapore and can calculate a person’s central aortic systolic pressure (CASP) (blood pressure closest to the heart) accurately and non-invasively. The A-Pulse has been validated in clinical trials to have an accuracy of 99.17%, as compared to the angiogram. The BPro Cardio Pulse-Wave screening measures the aortic pressure as well as the flexibility of your arteries. Screenings are carried out by a Healthstats certified technician and a full printout of the results are given on the day which can be brought back to your own GP or cardiologist if necessary. The procedure is noninvasive and completely pain-free. The cost of an individual BPro test is €50 per adult with a 10% discount (€90) for a couple. There is also a 20% discount for groups of 12 or more people e.g. Sports Clubs, Business Screening etc. Heartfelt Cardio Screening will bring the BPro to the following venues during the month of July/August (for further information or to check other venues, please call 0864135555 or 0862566422): Thursday 10th August - Radisson Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick Wednesday 16th August- Ashe Hotel, Maine Street, Tralee, Co Kerry Thursday 17th August - Radisson Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick Tuesday 22nd August - Corralea Court Hotel, Tuam, Co Galway Wednesday 23rd August - Ashe Hotel, Maine Street, Tralee, Co Kerry Thursday 24th August - Radisson Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick Wednesday 30th August - Loughrea Hotel & Spa, Loughrea, Co Galway Thursday 31st August - Radisson Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick Tuesday 5th September - Ashe Hotel, Maine Street, Tralee, Co Kerry Appointments are essential and are available from 11.00am until late. Stas was delighted to tell me the good news stories that keep coming back to him from the different people (now proud to call his friends !) who have experienced his Salt Therapy at his premises in Market Lane , Tralee. The stories of recovery , of relief and of improvement in so many peoples lives were so good ...and dramatic in some cases , that I had to share them in The Tralee Advertiser “ says Chris “These are people who suffer from all types of breathing Issues that complicate their lives ...issues such as Asthma , Hay Fever , Chronic coughing ,wheezing , bronchitis, Nasal congestion, Chronic Sinus ...the list goes on“ This is a good news story , it's my job to pass it on, says Chris... keep reading
CHRONIC SINUS
Both myself and 2 children suffer from chronic sinus and I was sick of the constant medicine! My 4 year old improved almost from the very first day and a couple of sessions later my 2 year old had also shown major improvement. Both are sleeping much better!
Emma INHALERS AND VENTOLIN
NASAL CONGESTION
“My son is 5 years old. He has used inhalers every winter since he was a year old. Our neighbour suggested Salt therapy. I booked in & we did five sessions in a two week period and his is chest is clearer, although he still needs his inhalers, I have been able to reduce the amount of Ventolin .. It was very child friendly. I intend doing salt therapy again , I would recommend you do the sessions close together to get maximum benefit.”
As a concerned parent of an 8 months old boy suffering with nasal congestion and a deep rattle in his chest, halotherapy salt rooms were recommended to me. It didn't take long ..within 2 weeks my baby had a clear chest, was breathing normally and was totally mucus free. I would pay particular mention to Stass the owner.I found him to very helpful, friendly and professional.
Fiona ASTHMA, BRONCHITIS & SINUS
Nicola S
(I SMOKED TOO MUCH !)
I am a O.A.P. and for a long time I have suffered from asthma and bronchitis: the result of smoking too much. I have inhalers and a nebuliser, which I used a lot. Six weeks ago I was going through a very bad asthma patch. My eldest son called in and talked to me about Halotherapy (The Salt Room). I was so bad, I could not drive to the Rooms, and walking was out of question. So my son drove me down to 6 Market Place, where the Salt Room is. As soon as I came, I had to sit down, as I could not get a breath. I was very much taken by the gentleman, who runs The Salt Room. There and then I decided to have one session. I was taken into the treatment room, where I was beginning to feel more relaxed: a lovely big room with armchairs and footstools, TV & Music . Upon finishing I booked another five sessions. Today I am 50 to 70 per cent better, and my sleep has improved. For the first time I could breathe through my nose, properly . I am not a GP or medical person but I would say anybody suffering from respiratory problems – please try the Salt Room. Like me, you are bound to get a relief.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: PASSPORT RENEWAL Question I have booked a family holiday and checked my passport to make sure it’s still valid. It is, but it’s due to expire a couple of weeks before I travel. How can I make sure that I can get a new one in time? Answer You don’t have to wait until the expiry of your passport to renew it. If you apply for a new passport before your current one has expired, the period that your new passport is valid for begins from when you apply, rather than from when your previous passport expires. The website of the Passport Service, passport.ie, lists the current average processing times for different types of passport applications. The quickest way to renew your passport is by using the online application service, which was introduced earlier this year. You can use the online service if your passport expires any time in the next 12 months. You must submit a digital photo with your application. You can get a friend to take your photo with a digital camera or smartphone or you can go to a photo provider, for example a pharmacy or a photographer, who will give you a copy of your digital photo to upload. Alternatively, you can go to one of the photo booth services listed on passport.ie, which will take your photo and provide you with a code. If you enter this code when you apply, you don’t need to upload the photo yourself. Online renewal isn’t available for children’s passports, so if you wanted to renew your family’s passports together, you would have to use Passport Express, the postal application service. Alternatively, you could renew your own passport online and use Passport Express for renewing any passports for children. When you get your new passport you can set a renewal reminder. The passport.ie website offers a passport reminder service, which will send you an email three months before the passport expires.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE OOPS!
A carpet layer had just finished installing carpet for a lady. He stepped out for a smoke, only to realize he’d lost his cigarettes. In the middle the room, under the carpet, was a bump. “No sense pulling up the entire floor for one pack smokes,” he said to himself. He proceeded to get out his hammer and flattened the hump. As he was cleaning up, the lady came in. “Here,” she said, handing him his cigarette pack. “I found them in the hallway. Now, if only I could find my sweet little hamster.”
WELL I’LL BE ....
A young boy is pulling his wagon up a hill when one of the back wheels falls off and rolls down the hill. The young boy says, “I’ll be darned.” A local pastor heard him and said, “You should not say that. Next time your wheel falls off say, ‘Praise the Lord.’” So the next day the young boy is pulling his wagon up the hill and the wheel falls off and rolls down the hill. The young boy says, “Praise the Lord.” The wheel stops rolling, turns around, rolls back up the hill and puts itself back on the wagon. The young boy being very surprised by this exclaims, “I’ll be darned!”

You are on a horse, galloping at a constant speed. On your right side is a sharp drop off, and on your left side is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you. Directly in front of you is another galloping horse but your horse is unable to overtake it. Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the horse in front of you. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation? Get your drunk butt off the merry-go-round!

I’M ALIVE
A taxi passenger taps the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screams, loses control of the car, nearly hits a bus, goes up on the footpath, and stops centimeters from a shop window. For a second, everything goes quiet in the cab, then the driver says, “Look mate, don’t ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me!” The passenger apologizes and says, “I didn’t realize that a little tap would scare you so much.” The driver replies, “Sorry, it’s not really your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver. I’ve been driving a funeral van for the last 25 years.”
OPEN SESAME
A doctor walks into a room full of patients at a mental institution, takes out a pen, and draws a door on the wall. He then tells all the patients that whoever wants to escape, should use that door. Immediately they all rush towards it, but of course cannot go through. However, one patient sits still in the back with a smile on his face. He has not moved at all. The doctor thinks he must be cured. He then asks the patient why he did not rush to the door, and the patient whispers, “They don’t know that I’m the one who has the key.”

TORQUING CARS! PORSCHE 911: A MAGIC NUMBER THAT’S SOLD A MILLION
n the history of the car, there is no number more famous than 911. It belongs to a car that, this year, became a million seller. So perhaps you’d be surprised to learn that is was not Porsche that was responsible for that number, but Peugeot. When Porsche launched its all-new sports car at the 1963 Frankfurt motor show it was proudly unveiled as the Porsche 901, and remained that way for long enough for precisely 84 cars to be made before the aforementioned French manufacturer pointed out unsportingly, if not inaccurately, that it alone held the rights to give a car a three-digit number in which the middle one was a zero. So Porsche changed it to a ‘1’ and the 911 was born.So surely the 911 must have enjoyed a rapt reception when it was new, because how else could it have embarked on a path that has now led to 54 years of continuous production, and counting? Again no. A lot that was said was praiseworthy, but so too did it attract criticism for its handling and propensity to lock its brakes in the wet. The 911 earned a reputation for being tricky that, while largely undeserved, stayed with the car and lives on in the perception of those who today choose four-wheel drive versions to tame its wild ways. .Today Porsche is the most profitable car manufacturer in the world, but in the mid-1990s it was in a very sorry state indeed. So Porsche gambled, and gambled big. First it killed all its cars: 968, 928 and 911 – the lot. Then it launched the affordable and attractive Boxster and, crucially, used the same platform to create a whole other car that was a 911 in name alone.Today, of course, Porsche is an SUV manufacturer that also makes a few sports cars: the Macan alone outsells all the myriad versions of the 911 by three to one. And yet to this day Porsche itself describes the 911 as “the most strategically important car” that it makes.
TOYOTA IRELAND LAUNCHES NEW MOBILE APP “FACE IT DOWN “
Toyota Ireland has recently launched it’s free “Face It Down” app for iPhone and Android which is designed to save lives on Irish Roads. The app is launched in partnership with the RSA and Topaz. It will reward all drivers for putting their phone face down when driving, allowing them to redeem the points for a complimentary hot drink at Topaz Re Store outlets nationwide. International research* has shown that making a call while driving will make a driver four times more likely to crash while texting makes crashing a staggering twentythree times more likely. As Ireland’s biggest car brand, Toyota Ireland felt a responsibility to solve this social issue by creating safer roads for everyone. Use of mobile phones while driving is a big problem on Irish roads. Too many people still drive while on their phone to take a call, text, snap a selfie, update their social media channels or check an email. Even glancing at a phone when it lights up is a distraction. So, as part of Toyota Ireland’s brand promise of being ‘Built for a Better World’, it has developed the app with the aim of changing driver behaviour and improving road safety for everyone. Users can download the Face It Down app from the Google Play Store or Apple Store for free. The user launches the app before setting off on a journey and simply puts the phone face down. Points will be earned for every kilometre driven without picking up the phone. If the user turns over the phone while driving, all the points accumulated will be lost. Points accrued can be redeemed against a complimentary hot drink for every 350 KM’s travelled at 159 participating Topaz Re Store sites across Ireland. 250 bonus points will be awarded for a user’s first successful journey with bonus points also given at interim periods. The app launch will be supported with a heavyweight communications campaign. Toyota brand ambassador Niall Breslin will act as spokesperson for the Face It Down campaign and it is something which he is truly passionate about, “We all know the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving so it’s great that drivers will now get rewarded for not using their phone. This simple act can make such a difference to road safety in Ireland that’s why I would encourage all drivers to use Toyota’s Face It Down App”.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR KERRY TO BE IN CROKE PARK ON ALL IRELAND FINAL WEEKEND! The big question is will Kerry be in Croke Park on Sunday September 17th? To do that they will need to see of Mayo in the semi-final. Not as easy task but one that they are well capable of doing. However Kerry will have lots of representatives in GAA Headquarters the day before when the annual GPA Former Players Reunion lunch takes place. The Kerry heroes of 1997 and 2007 are being honoured as part of the ten teams from both football and hurling that will have their achievements recognised this year. All the teams are All Ireland winners from the decades 1967 to 2007. The annual GPA Former Players Reunion Lunch will take place on September 16 2017, on the eve of the All Ireland Football Final, and at this year’s event we will recognise the achievements of 10 teams, hurling and football All-Ireland winners through the decades from 1967-2007. Each year, we also recognise one former hurler and one former footballer for Lifetime Achievement awards for their outstanding contribution to both codes. This year our hurling award recipient is Kilkenny’s Eddie Keher while Donegal’s Brian McEniff takes the football award. Kerry 1997 and 2007: In 1997 Kerry defeated Cavan in the semifinal 1-17 to 1-10 then saw of Mayo 0-13 to 1-7 with Maurice Fitzgerald, Pa Laide, Daire O’Se and John Crowley the scorers in the final. The team was captained by Liam Hassett with the late great Paidi O’Se managing the team. In 2007 the win in the final was much easier with Kerry seeing off Cork 3-13 to 1-09.Kieran Donaghy (2-0) and Colm Cooper (1-05) were amongst the stars for Pat O’Shea’s side. While the first half was tight Kerry were dominant in the second period. This day will be a nice way of honouring two of Kerry’s great All Ireland winning teams and hopefully the weekend can be rounded off with all the players past and present bringing Sam home again.

BUSY TIME ON THE COUNTY FOOTBALL FIELDS: Pride of place goes to the Kerry Juniors who completed the three in a row after the defeated Meath in the 2017 All Ireland final. A bit like the mop in Only Fools and Horses this three in a row has been completed with three different line-ups due to the rules of the competition. The Kerry minors kept up their quest for another All Ireland title after they saw off Louth. They now face Cavan in the semi-final with the hope that it will be played in Croke Park as a curtain raiser before the senior semi-final against Mayo. Dublin will take on Derry in the last 4 encounter. The new competition brought in ahead of the minors dropping to u17 next season see Kerry u17’s take on Roscommon this Saturday at 2pm. As this team has a number of minors as well as a shared management team Peter Keane and his backroom team will be keeping a keen eye on the Fixtures. In the County Championships and while thoughts won’t turn to these fixtures until after Kerry’s All Ireland come to end the teams left know their opponents. The draw sees Austin Stacks taking on West Kerry and Kerins O’Rahillys facing East Kerry. Both of these game s will probably be played as a double header in Tralee. The other two fixtures will see Dr Crokes against Kenmare Shamrocks and Rathmore up against South Kerry with both of these possible being in Fitzgerald Stadium. 3 of 4 Semi-final spots sorted in hurling: Ballyduff, Kilmoyley and Lixnaw have booked their places in the Garvey’s Supervalu Senior Hurling semi-finals. The fourth spot will be the winner of the replay between St Brendan’s and Abbeydorney. The winner will face Lixnaw with the other two sides meeting for a place in the decider. This Saturday August 12th is a big one for the minors and u21’s as they play in an All Ireland B double header in Dr Hyde Park in Roscommon. The minors play Kildare as they look for an amazing 6th title in a row at this level. The u21’s will take on Donegal, who won the All Ireland C Competition, in their semi-final. THE ROSE CUP:
Friday 11th August 2017
The 9th year of the Rose Cup run by Coiste Tra Li and sponsored by Oaklands Daybreak Tralee takes place in conjunction with the Festival on Saturday August 19th. There will be two venues with action in Na Gaeil and Healy Park with the action starting at 10.30am. There are 16 teams with 13 from the county being joined by St James of County Galway, Mountmellick of Laois and Askeaton/Balysteen/Kilcornan from Co. Limerick. The final will take place in Healy Park with the Rose of Tralee 2017 Maggie McEldowney on hand to present the medals. ST PAT’S NEWS There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 9,12,16 and 29 and the next jackpot will be e3000 with the draw in O’Dwyers this Sunday night. The u8’s enjoyed their Go Games Blitz in Ballyheigue while the u12 Girls are training this week with the u12 Mixed competing in Division 4 of the Central Region League. The u16 boys booked their place in the semi-finals of Division 6 of the County League defeating Kilgarvan / Touist. Seniors: Training continues as usual on the designated days. Our next match is away to Beaufort in Round 10 Division 2 of the SFL and it has now been arranged for Friday, the 18th of August at 7.30pm. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The club is delighted to be celebrating the Group 1 League win by Strand Road who beat Spa in Castleisland 2-15 to 1-14. Seniors: We travel to Caherciveen this Saturday 12th August to take on St. Mary’s in the penultimate round of the County Senior League Division 1. With St. Mary’s on 8 points and us on 1 less a win for either side should guarantee Division 1 football for next season. The game throws in at 7pm. We have been drawn to play East Kerry in the quarter final of the county championship which will resume following Kerry’s exit from this year’s All Ireland championship. Junior Blues: The Summer camp was a great success and credit goes to the excellent coaches and organisers who made it such an enjoyable camp for the kids.
CAMOGIE NEWS: The Kerry Junior Camogie Team are just one step away from an All Ireland final. They face Dublin this Saturday, August 12th, in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick at 4pm. The Girls have beaten Armagh, away, plus Roscommon and Clare in their campaign to date. Dublin were defeated by Westmeath to set up this weekend’s clash and we are all rooting for the girls to go all the way. The Camogie County Board thanks all those who contributed to their recent Church Gate Collection. A coaching course for coaching the underage players will be held in Causeway GAA pitch on Monday 14th August at 7.15pm. Let Fiona Flynn know if you will be attending this or anyone involved with your club by email secretary.kerry@ camogie.ie PARNELLS NEWS; The Parnells Cul Camp takes place next week and the club has a competition on its Facebook page. All the details are there to check out. The u16 boys championship interest ended against Ballyduff after a great battle. The Tralee side went down 2-12 to 2-05 despite a great effort. Training this Friday: All squads are now back training after their summer break. The u10 boys will travel to Killeedy this Saturday for some friendly games. The club is taking a bus to this Sunday’s All Ireland hurling semi-final with bookings on 085 1355566. STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: The underage are busy with training and trips with the u10’s and 12’s enjoying a great trip to Clare. The u12’s begin their Central League campaign this week with the u14’s are in Town League action. But it’s the 13’s that are in the spotlight as they take part in the Rose Cup! There are also a number of players on the County Development Squads. Members are reminded of the clubs interpretation of ‘Dancing Through the Decades’ which takes place in the Dome on Saturday August 26th. This is a hugely important fundraiser for the club. The very successful Summer Camp will end this Saturday and everyone enjoyed their days learing new skills. Over 100 boys and girls enjoyed expert coaching. The club was delighted to welcome Bishop Ray Browne to the Nuns Field on Tuesday where he celebrated a very special Mass. SOCCER HISTORY FOR THE 15’S: Following on from the u19’s and

The BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby is the most prestigious race in the Irish Greyhound Calendar and boasts an increased prize-fund of €287,500 with a winner’s prize of €150,000.

Racing as usual on Saturday morning is off at 9.12am with Saturday night underway with the first off at 7.42pm. TRIATHLON NOT TRYING FOR TRALEE’S CILLIAN: The Tralee Triathlon club’s Tri Kingdom Come triathlon was another huge success with over 400 competing in the main and sprint version. A sign of the increased participation in the sport was that over 170 of those taking part were from Kerry. And it was 19 year old Tralee man Cillian Tierney that was celebrating most of all as he won the main event in Fenit in a time of 58.17. This is contested over a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5k run. Cillian has been in great from for the last year and indeed only lost out last year by seconds. This season he won King of the Hill races in Kinsale and Valentia and he told the media that he was thrilled to win his home triathlon saying that this was hugely important given all the support he received along the way including sponsors Surf n Sail and iBike. The first female home was Cork’s Amy Wolfe who stopped the clock in 1.09.36. Tralee Triathlon club had a very successful day with Majella Diskin, Sinead Stafford and Padraig Kelly taking first in their age categories. The first relay team home were the Barrett Bombers team in 1.02.11. In the Try-A-Tri event, set up for those who are new to the sport and consists of a 250m swim, an 8km bike ride and a 2.5km run, was won by Mark Ryall with fellow Tralee athlete Martina Lawless winning the ladies section. THE LIGHTHOUSE SWIM: Round 6 of the World Series of swims in Tralee Bay took place last night, Thursday, and we will have the results next week and see what difference it makes to the Swimmer of the Year competition. There are a large group of swimmers who can still win this prestigious prize so this and all the remaining swims will as always be hotly contested. ONE OF KERRY CYCLING’S BUSIEST WEEKS OF THE YEAR: The August Bank Holiday weekend sees two big tours with the seniors taking on the Suir 3 Day and the underage riders in Donegal for the Errigal Youth Tour. Errigal Tour: From a Tralee point of view in Donegal Camp’s Tom Moriarty was riding with the Irish

Youth Academy in the u16 race and was the first Irish rider home in 4th overall. He was also the top u15 rider in the rider in the race on GC. Sean Barrett is also with the Irish Youth Academy and he took 16th on GC. Duagh’s Tom O’Connor was a member of the Munster Cycling Academy team and was the best of their riders taking 34th. Eoin Pathwell (O’Leary Stone Kanturk) was just 3 places back while Eoin Moloney (Tralee Manor West iBike) was just outside the top 40 taking 42nd of the 92 finishers. Kieran Coggins was unable to ride the last stage but earlier in the weekend rode a great Time Trial taking 2nd place. Suir Three Day: At the Suir Three Day Tralee’s Sean Lacey riding for Aqua Blue was 29th overall. The Killarney Cycling Club had a good weekend with Conor Kissane taking 7th on GC and 2nd in the A2 category. Richard Maes, who wore the white jersey on Stage 4, Eoin O’Connell was the Most Aggressive Rider of Stage 1 and Richard O’Brien and James O’Sullivan both had good races. Conor takes the Road Race League: Following the 6 rounds of the Clubs of Kerry Road Race League Killarney’s Conor Kissane was crowned the winner. Second was his club-mate Fergal Murphy with Tralee Manor West’s Jake Deering sharing 3rd place. Cian Leahy (Kanturk) was 4th, Tralee Manor West’s Shane Fleming in 5th and Sean O’Riordan of Valley Wheelers taking the 6th spot. Once the racing ended in the u12’s the ultra-consistent Shane Galvin (Killarney CC) was crowned the League winner ahead of club mate Louis Steadman Murphy. Sliabh Luachra’s Dinny Murphy had a good League taking third place while the 1st girl overall was Shayna Daly of the Killarney CC. Making it a very good night for the Galvin family Patrick is the U14 League champion, a section he dominated over the 6 rounds. The Killarney CC rider won ahead of Sliabh Luachra’s Ben Murphy with O’Leary Stone Kanturk’s David Shine in 3rd. Almha Kissane also of Killarney CC is the Girls Champion. At u16 level West Kerry’s Tom Moriarty who rides with O’Leary Stone Kanturk is the champion topping the table ahead of Killarney CC’s Tadgh O’Shea and another O’Leary Stone Kanturk rider from Kerry Sean Barrett. The Girls title was shared by Kingdom CC’s Faith Hilliard and Killarney CC’s Sarah McGrath. Time Trial League: The last round of the Time Trial League saw George Doyle, Tralee Manor West iBike ride the fastest time for the third time in the League. This saw him tie with Richard Cleverly from Sliabh Luachra who also had 3 wins. Both riders had a second place at their 4th and final counting round so it went to the clock and Cleverly had a 2 second better time than the Tralee man as so won the title.
Development team at the Celtic Games that took place in Santry. The talented athlete and soccer player won two medals finishing 2nd in the 100m, only just missing out on the win, and a bronze with the mixed relay team. His next outing will be in the Community Games where he will represent Kerry in the 100m. KERRY CRICKETS JUST GO DOWN IN MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP-FINAL: While the Munster Junior Cup final against Cork Harlequins was a low scoring match but it lacked nothing in tension. Played at Farmers Cross Kerry batted first but a poor start had them under pressure. They recovered somewhat to finish on 97. Credit also to Kerry’s bowlers as they took regular wickets and after the eighth wicket fell the scores were level. But the home side just had enough and Joe Herrigan hit the winning runs to retain the Junior Cup for Cork Harlequins. Kerry were easy winners over Cork County Seconds, who to their credit travelled for the game despite being under strength. Kerry batted first and put up a huge total of 368 and then bowled Cork County out for 111. This Saturday August 12th it’s the Senior Cup final at The Mardyke in Cork. Cork County are already through with Kerry and Limerick meeting in mid-week in a rescheduled semi-final. Also on Sunday in the Munster Division 1 County Kerry seconds take on Tipperary County 1 in Ballyeighan. ON THE GREENS: Tralee Golf Club have lost out to the Gold Coast 3-2 in the Munster section of the Irish Mixed Foursomes competition. The Waterford side were then beaten by Adare who go onto the All Ireland semi-finals. Tralee Golf Club: In the club sponsored Singles Donie O’Keeffe, 37 points, was the winner from Kevin A Lucey and Eamon O’Sullivan in third. David Hennebery won the Best Gross with 33 points while Michael Pearse Kerins was the Best +18. In the 9 hole Sunday Afternoon Competition Padraig Corcoran took the win with 15 points. The Ladies who played early had the worst of the weather in the Presidents Prize and while it did clear up later it was certainly not summer golf! However Isabel Mancera Claro did not mind as she took the big win on 36 points. Barbara Reen was second and Margaret Murphy 3rd while Mary Savage took the Best Gross. The Category Prizes went to Catherine Murphy Cat 1, Sandra O’Sullivan Cat 2 and Catherine Daly in Cat 3. Kathleen Finnegan won the Front 9 and Kay McNamara the Back 9.
