Celebrating 31 years 1988-2019

Established 1988

WHATS DIFFERENT ABOUT BROOKFIELD?

Elisha "This year , we celebrate working with students for 31 years , since 1988 " says Principal Elisha Dowling . "I like to emphasise the word 'with' as it conveys the approach we take with all students who come here ...We have created an atmosphere in the College where students are expected and encouraged to perform to the best of their ability. The most important part of this equation (yes , Elisha also teaches Maths!) has to be our teachers .At present we have 15 teachers in the school , all highly qualified teachers who are motivated and enthusiastic about teaching ...They just love teaching ...and that does come out in the students! And because there is rarely any changeover of teachers , that gives our students consistency ..very important in the exam years . We dont have uniforms and teachers are known on a first name basis... this all fosters maturity amongst the students. All our students are given regular assessments and each is assigned a tutor who meets with them several times during the year , discussing progress and giving both advice and guidance.Career guidance also gets priority during the Senior Cycle as we find it answers a lot of questions that students may have and gives them clarification. Its very satisfying to hear, maybe even a few years after they've gone that former students have found their time with us to be hugely positive... thats enough for me "

LEGAL CORNER

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES RIGHTS OF WAY

John has inherited a farm from his mother. The only access is down a bothreen that is not a public road. It would appear from checking with the Property Registration Authority that the bothreen is not a registered right of way. John is concerned as he understands the law is changing in relation to rights of way in 2021.

A right of way occurs if you own a piece of land and in order to get to it you must pass over a piece of land or roadway which is owned by another. Rights of Way, are also known as easements. Easements include other rights for example, to cut turf, fishing rights, sporting rights etc. They are rights to avail of use of another’s land for some purpose. Rights of way are a right to pass and repass over land and are usually phrased that it applies to a particular person and anybody they transfer onto whether by sale or inheritance. The extent of the right of way should be set out but could include full right and liberty at all times and for all purposes on foot and with or without animals and vehicles to pass and repass over a particular section of property. In order to ensure this is registered one needs to have the right of way measured up by an engineer and marked on a map in yellow between various points which are lettered. Traditionally many rights of way in Ireland were there by way of long use( usually 20 years or more) and were never registered but the pressure is on now as the Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009 provides that if a right of way of long user is not registered by December 2021 then one would have to build up at least 12 years long user of the right of way starting in 2009 before one is entitled to register it by way of long user. Another way a right of way can be created is by a Deed of Grant of Right of Way signed by the owner of the land over which the right of way applies. These should be registered. All in all as registration of rights of way take some time people should be getting legal advice now so that they can apply to register the right of way before December 2021 Legal Quip: Q: Why are lawyers like nuclear weapons? A: Once launched, they can’t be recalled. If you have a legal query or need further information on any item addressed in this column please send in your query to mirs@gofree.indigo.ie Miriam McGillycuddy, Solicitor, Derryana, Ballyard, Tralee, County Kerry. Sneak Peak Released Of New Ch Store With redevelopment at an advanced stage the Harty family have released the first design images of the new look CH store. With a refreshed identity, store experience and communications, CH Chemists aims to revitalise its position in Tralee. Work began back in March and is due for completion by the end of September. The extensive renovation is costing in the region of 1.5 million euro. World leading design agency Dalziel and Pow have created the new identity and store concept with local construction contractor Ned O’Shea and Sons doing the building works. According to the designers the new store will be warm and full of personality. The design is a world away from the clinical feel of a pharmacy and brings

to life the welcoming and knowledgeable attributes of the independent CH brand. The reimagined store will be a place of discovery where customers can pop-in and explore what’s on offer. Each department will have its own identity, easing navigation as well as giving the space a more optimistic feel. Aside from all the building works the family-run business will also change their brand identity. The transformation begins by dropping the word ‘Chemists’ just leaving the new name as CH. This will better reflect the brand’s wide ranging offers and services which include a pharmacy, opticians and extensive beauty department. With the new name, ‘CH’, comes a reimagined logo – a bold

statement to reaffirm its status as an iconic Kerry store. Peter Harty of CH comments: “Although works began in March this project is a result of a lot of planning and preparation over the last two years. We have made many improvements to CH over the last 50 years but this is certainly the most extensive renovation in terms of design and investment. We take pride in the fact that we are an independent family-run store in the heart of Tralee town. We want to honour the legacy of our parents who founded CH and also reinvest in our town. LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE A DOCTOR IS RUNNING ERRANDS AROUND TOWN WHEN A MUGGER WITH A KNIFE STABS AND ROBS HIM...

A bystander runs up to the injured Doctor and says: "You're bleeding out, let me stitch your wound" to which the Doctor says "I'm a Medical Professional, I can handle it alone" "Fine, suture self"

A COMEDIAN DIDN'T WANT TO DISAPPOINT HIS FANS

A comedian didn't want to disappoint his fans, so when a couple asked if he wanted to smoke a joint with them after the show, he said sure. On the drive home, he noticed flashing lights behind him and pulled over. The officer came to the window and asked if he'd been drinking. The comedian said he hadn't.The cop said "Is that marijuana I smell?"The comedian said, "Oh, I ran over a skunk about twenty minutes ago."The cop said, "So why are your eyes so red?""Because it was a baby skunk."

BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE SOMEONE, WALK A MILE IN THEIR SHOES So when you criticize them, you're a mile away, and you have their shoes!

WHEN A YOUNG ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER WAS IN MUSIC APPRECIATION CLASS...

each student was asked to give a presentation as their favorite composer. Being a huge fan of Mozart, Arnold was very excited to turn in his request. But much to his dismay, the teacher told him "Unfortunately, someone else already chosen to be Mozart." To which Arnold replied, "No worries...I'll be Bach!"

SUPER PROUD OF MYSELF. SHOT A 72 GOLFING YESTERDAY.

Granted, it was a 9 hole, par 3 course. But still. Shot a 72.

I WAS DIGGING IN OUR GARDEN WHEN I FOUND A CHEST FULL OF GOLD COINS. I was about to run straight home to tell my wife about it, but then I remembered why I was digging in our garden.

I USED TO SELL SECURITY ALARMS DOOR TO DOOR, AND I WAS REALLY GOOD AT IT.

If no one was home, I would just leave a brochure on the kitchen table.

I PROPOSED TO MY EX-WIFE.

But she said no. She believes I’m just after my money.

I JUST READ A BOOK CALLED "HOW TO SURVIVE FALLING DOWN A STAIRCASE" Yeah it's a step by step guide

Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I hope you’re all having an amazing week. I’m currently on antibiotics and I’ve also an upper body injury, so that’s faaaaab. As you know I’m a fully qualified professional Makeup Artist, and I constantly strive to have my kit up to date with new makeup products. Before I add ANY product to my kit for clients I will buy it for my own personal kit and use it for 1 month. This way I can see how it works on the skin, with other products, lasting power, in photographs etc. If the product works well, I buy another for my kit. I would never use a product on a client if I don’t know exactly how it works.

And these are a few products I’m going to be trailing this month to add to my kit.

These are a few products that I have recently added to my kit! All products in my kit are cruelty free.

I take my makeup kit very seriously and spend a lot of money reinvesting into it. Makeup isn’t cheap - especially the makeup I use, but I want my clients to have the luxury of being able to have the best of new makeup launches and know that they really work.

• Too Faced Born This Way Foundation & Concealer • Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder • Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter • Fenty Gloss Bomb • Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Primer

• Jeffree Star X Morphe Eyeshadow Palette • Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Longwear Foundation • Urban Decay Stay Naked Foundation & Concealer • Anastasia Beverly Hills Foundation • Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Foundation

Some artists use the same products always, and that’s fine! Too of course, but for me personally I love trying new products so I can constantly update my kit and have new things available to my clients. Another reason I love trying new makeup is so I can talk about all the new and hyped products when I’m doing a workshop.

Workshops over 100 people on my stories said they would attend a Beyond Beauty Event, and over 150 said that there are not enough beauty events in Tralee. If you would be interested in attending a workshop please email your interest to rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com.

I’ve started brainstorming ideas for another Beauty Workshop for late September/early October. I did a few polls on my Instagram story last night and there is a lot of demand for more

BEXBLAH

FITNESS!

Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read

HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS I hope you’re having an amazing week. This week I’m going to be talking all about motivation and motivation for the gym. At some point, everyone suffers with it. I’m currently dealing with an injury and I’m on antibiotics so I’ve been dealing with a lack of motivation myself. Some people will look at people doing well in the gym or life and say ‘I wish I had their motivation’... let me tell you something, these ‘motivated’ people, are not any kind of superhuman, they just have a clear idea of their goals and what they want. When you lack motivation you have two choices, to just float through life, or… to make a conscious effort to get back in

the game! You get out of bed whether you want to or not, you go to the gym even if you don’t feel like it, you work hard when you want to chill - THAT IS WHAT ‘MOTIVATED’ PEOPLE DO. The brain is a powerful place. You need to focus on whatever it is you want and then make active decisions everyday to make what you want happen. For example… If you want to get stronger and leaner in the gym - you know what to do. Put in the work at the gym, maybe get a personal trainer, learn how to eat to get the best out of your body. It takes energy to reach your goal, mental emotional and spiritual energy, so you need to put in the work. EVERY DAY.

When I feel like I’m lacking motivation there’s a few things I like to do… 1. Write down a list of 3 current goals and how I can start achieving them. 2. Watch motivational speeches on YouTube or listen to a motivational podcast - my personal favourite. 3. Go for a walk on the beach(it’s a luxury not many people have) Nobody is ‘naturally motivated’ just like nobody is ‘a procrastinator’, it’s all about priority and what you prioritise in life. Think about that. It doesn’t matter what happens to you, all that matters is… what are you going to do about it? If you’re lacking motivation in the gym, change up your workouts, focus on a new goal or even change gyms. Personally I find The Arena Gym so motivating. The energy in there is fantastic, music always pumping, trainers always happy and willing to help.

THAW A FROZEN SHOULDER!! Pain when reaching to the back pocket or to a high shelf...

Frozen shoulder is a very painful and limiting condition that can last up to three years if left untreated. 3-5% of the population will suffer a frozen shoulder at some point mostly in the 40-60 age group and often women more than men. Initial signs may be – • •

This can result in avoiding those movements which contributes to a restriction in the range of motion of the shoulder joint. The shoulder joint is surrounded by a capsule (a bit like a plastic bag holding all the structures inside loosely together). When this movement is reduced or restricted this plastic bag can become

There are a few conditions which predispose to developing a frozen shoulder: 1. Diabetes 2. Immobilisation in a sling But, regardless of the cause physiotherapy is the cornerstone of treatment. Your physiotherapist will take a history of onset and complete a comprehensive movement assessment before deciding on a treatment plan. This may include: manual therapy, pain relieving modalities and exercise. Help the defrost before you freeze completely – seek early intervention.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2019 So many things can be done with the humble tomato, and right in season now, so here is a stunning dish to try

TOMATO TART WITH CHICKPEA CRUMBLE INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

1 (7 1/2-ounce) prepared pie crust or puff pastry, defrosted All-purpose flour (for surface) 1/2 cup cooked chickpeas, drained, rinsed, patted dry 2 tablespoons raw pistachios, coarsely chopped 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil 1 small garlic clove, coarsely chopped 1/2 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest 1/4 teaspoon sea salt 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 3/4 ounces grated Parmesan (about 1/2 cup), divided 1 3/4 ounces grated Gruyère (about 1/3 cup), divided 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion 2 cups multicolored cherry tomatoes, halved 1 large egg, beaten to blend 1/4 cup basil leaves, coarsely chopped

METHOD Preheat oven to 180c. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to a 10 1/2” round. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill until ready to use. Pulse chickpeas, pistachios, oil, garlic, lemon zest, salt, and pepper in a food processor until coarsely chopped, about 15 seconds. Sprinkle half of cheese over top of dough, leaving a 1/2” border. Sprinkle three-quarters of chickpea crumble over cheese. Top with onion, then tomatoes. Top with remaining cheese and chickpea crumble. Fold edges of dough over filling, tucking and overlapping slightly as needed. Using a pastry brush, brush edges of crust with egg wash. Bake tart until crust is golden brown and tomatoes are roasted and beginning to burst, 16–18 minutes. Top tart with basil and cut into wedges

TESLA TO OFFER UNLIMITED SUPERCHARGER ACCESS TO NEW CUSTOMERS

Tesla has announced it will offer all-new Model S and Model X customers lifetime complimentary access to its Supercharger network. Currently, the offer has no expiration date, although Tesla has confirmed that free Supercharger access will be removed if the buyer sells or transfers ownership of the vehicle. At present, Tesla says it will not extend the offer to its most recent customers. However, according to the firm’s sales terms, customers who have taken delivery of a Model S or Model X in the last seven days have the right to return their vehicle for a full refund. Should they wish, buyers could then reorder to take advantage of the deal.Tesla’s latest product restructure comes only four months after the company raised the price of both models in the UK . The Model S Long Range is now the cheapest available option, priced at £78,050, while the range-topping Performance variant now starts at £92,650. Prices have risen by £7,350 and £3,650 respectively, although the top-spec model now includes “Ludicrous Mode” (previously an £8,700 option) at no extra cost.

JUDDERING VW GROUP CARS: NO END IN SIGHT FOR OWNERS

A significant number of owners of Volkswagen Group cars fitted with the firm’s 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine have been experiencing serious ‘kangarooing’ issues. While VW has been aware of the problem for months, a fix has yet to be developed. The fault affects mainstream VW Group cars, and Auto Express has been contacted by SEAT, Skoda, VW and Audi owners about their experiences. Online forums are also filled with complaints about the same issue.Auto Express initially understood that the problem only appeared in manual cars with the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine, but has subsequently been contacted by owners of cars with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox that are also affected. Owners report a juddering action, which is most noticeable in lower gears when motors are cold. One reader said the ‘kangarooing’ is so pronounced that it moves him in his seat, while another reported their car can stall at junctions and roundabouts unless they drop the clutch and get the engine revving again. While all the issues relate to the same engine, dealers have responded inconsistently. Some have allowed owners to reject their cars, others have not. Software patches have been applied to some vehicles, while a number of owners have been told no such patch exists. In some cases retailers have informed customers the issue is a “characteristic” of the car, while others have been more open about the significance of the problem. We contacted VW in December about the fault, and the firm said it was “aware of reports from customers complaining that some vehicles featuring the 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine with manual gearbox can be slightly hesitant in the cold-running phase”. VW insisted, however, that this issue was rare, and promised it was developing a solution. (Auto Express )

TEST OF LOYALTY: BMW 3-SERIES PLUG-IN €1,000 LESS THAN 320D !

BMW's new 3-series plug-in hybrid will go on sale here in September. Its arrival could hardly be more timely given the Budget likelihood of sweeping changes to tax in favour of EVs and plug-ins.The 330e, as it is called, will cost from €43,070 for SE Pro and Sport Pro trim (37g/km) - before delivery and related charges. M Sport will cost €43,990 (37g/km).Importantly, the entry-level price applies after €7,500 has been deducted as a VRT rebate (€2,500) and €5,000 SEAI grant. I am going on the expectation these incentives will still be in place come Budget time.Indeed the 330e could cost even less if the Tax Strategy Group's plan, recently published, is followed. Why? Because the 330e's emissions are below the 50g/km band that carries a proposed lower VRT rate of 7pc. That could knock a few hundred more off. Plug-in v diesel? It might just come down to that where there is a choice within a brand. In BMW's case, for example, the 330e would be €1,000 or so less expensive than the iconic 320d.I think it would compare well on fuel consumption too.On our test the combined 2-litre petrol and electric motor (integrated in the 8spd auto transmission; total output of 292hp), returned 3.8litres/100km. That was after 85.5kms on a mix of pure electric and hybrid-mode driving. We started out in pure electric mode, drove 26kms and still had 19kms left in the battery. So 45km in EVmode is readily achievable. On that basis, if you could charge regularly you'd get a good commute range on electric only and save a fair bit of money. They claim the saloon's electric-only range is 60pc better than its predecessor. At the end we still had 502kms left as a combination of petrol and electric. The 330e is expected to make up a substantial portion of overall 3-series buying - a sign of how things are turning that way. Last year the current 330e accounted for 21.5pc of sales. This year and next I can see that increasing a lot.( Indo motoring)

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR KERRY TO MAKE MULTIPLE ALL IRELAND FINAL APPEARANCE: These are great times for Kerry GAA fans as they look forward to the Senior Men’s and two campgie All Ireland final appearances. Unluckily for the Kerry minors they have missed out by a point and the run of wins stops at 34. So the message is that all winning streaks come to an end at some stage so maybe September 1st will be the end of another winning run. I am not going to go over the reviews of the Kerry win against Tyrone apart from saying that the team and management put in an excellent second half performance. Like Dublin the day before whatever was said in the dressing room at half time certainly worked. And while Dublin are hot favourites there was plenty to take from the Kerry performance to give hope for a historic day on the biggest football day of the year. Peter Keane and his team have exceeded many expectations in their first year but that won’t satisfy them. They will leave no stone unturned in preparation and at this stage there is not a lot that is unknown about how Dublin will play. The question is can they be stopped? One thing that both sides have is strong benches so how these are used will go a long way to determining the outcome. As the saying in modern football goes it’s the team that finishes is probably more important than the one the starts. Sporting Shocks: So back to the question as to the possibility of the Dublin winning streak ending on September 1st. (One thing to point out to all Dublin fans over the next three weeks is that while they are hoping for 5 wins in a row this is not historic in the GAA world. Kerry Ladies won 9 in a row so match that!!) Of course we all remember Offaly 1982 and the end of the previous Drive for 5. But what other major shocks have there been in the sporting world that Kerry can feed off? Here are some of the longest winnings streaks which all came to an end include Manchester City last year at 18 while from March 2003 to October 2004 Arsenal went 49 games unbeaten. But both eventually lost. In tennis Roger Federer’s 2011 French Open semi-final win ended a 43 game winning streak Friday 16th August 2019

from Novak Djokovic. Martina Navratilova won 13 consecutive tournaments and 109 straight doubles matches alongside Pam Shriver. In American football Drew Brees through a touchdown in 54 consecutive games while in basketball Steph Curry hit a three pointer in 128 games in a row. So now we know all sporting runs come to an end. But is this is not enough to give us hope then how about some sporting surprises. No team is unbeatable as South African rugby will attest to as in 2015 they were beaten by Japan in what is said to be the biggest upset in world rugby. And for all soccer fans who can say they predicted Leicester City would win a Premier title – yet they did. And staying with soccer In American football the allconquering New England Patriots were on a run of 18-0 and expected to win the 2008 Super Bowl. Yet no one told the New York Giants and with all their big players standing up on the day they took the win with a touchdown in the last minute. We would take a goal in the last minute!! And while some may say were are in a Sam famine here is Kerry having not had the trophy reside in the county since 2014 spare a thought for Chicago Cubs fans who had to wait from 1908 to 2016 to win the baseball World Series. In summary in sport the mighty do fall, the longest winning streaks come to an end shocks are regular occurrences. Despite the bookies having Dublin at ¼ and Kerry at 10/3 to stop them the game is far from a foregone conclusion. Despite Joe Brolly saying that the Sam should have been given to Dublin after they beat Mayo in the end its 15 v 15 and not for the first time Joe Brolly has given Kerry another reason to drop the Drive for Five. Maybe on Sunday afternoon on September 1st it the All Ireland tag line will be No More After Four!! Now that’s a nice slogan for a teeshirt if Kerry win. Just Announced: Kerry GAA has just announced their Open Day will take place this Saturday at the Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney starting at 12 noon. Gates are open at 11am and fans can buy a football or autograph book – limited edition (!) on the day and get them signed by all your favourite players. KERRY CAMOGIE REACHES TWO ALL- IRELAND DECIDERS: Kerry U16 Camogie Team Qualify For All-Ireland Final: The Kerry

U16 Camogie Team travelled to Fr. McNamara Park in Ennis on Sunday to face Mayo, a team with whom they had drawn in their first game of the campaign. Mayo were the sharper outfit in the first half but despite this the Kingdom found themselves just one point adrift at halftime, 2-3 to 1-5. The Kerry Management of Joe Walsh and John Sheehan were confident that the team were capable of delivering an improved performance and they did not disappoint. Kerry really upped their game and outscored the Westerners by 2-3 to 0-6 in the second half. Goal scorers for Kerry were Amy O’Sullivan who found the net twice and Emma Conway who raised the other green flag. The girls will now look forward to their decider against Roscommon on August 25th. Kingdom Back In All-Ireland Junior Final: Kerry made the journey to Cusack Park in Ennis on Saturday to take on the home team in the semi-final of the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship. The Kingdom were hoping to get back to the decider following their loss to Dublin in last year’s final. They were well ahead at the break 1-09 to 0-03 and ran out easy winners 1-13 to 0-06 to set up a September 8th decider against Limerick. FOUR WILL BECOME 2 IN THE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP It does seem that the Garvey’s County Senior Hurling Championship has lost a little of its profile due to the timing of Kerry’s run to the All Ireland final. But that won’t matter to the four teams who will go head to head this Saturday for a coveted place in the biggest hurling game in the county. Causeway had an impressive win over Ballyduff and they will now face St Brendan’s on Saturday at 4pm. Kilmoyley needed extra time to get past Crotta O’Neills but were by far the stronger in that extra period. They now meet Lixnaw with a 6pm thrown in following the 4pm game. Both games will take place in Austin Stacks Park. As always I will be cheering for Lixnaw in memory of my father and the other late members of the Harnett family who were born just outside the village. TRALEE PARNELL’S NEWS The players put in a very good performance against Kilgarvan in the Intermediate semifinal and despite being behind early they fought back. However the South Kerry side were just a little too strong in the end. The club is delighted for its players who were on the Kerry Camogie

u16 side that have qualified for All Ireland final on August 25th. The Parnells players were Katie Dwyer, Saoirse Maloney and Saorlaith Moore. The u16 Boys had a welldeserved win over Crotta in the Championship Plate quarter final and are into the semi-final this Friday. The club had a big representation at the Munster 7’s Summer Series finals in Holycross GAA in Tipperary playing 9 games at u17’s and Juniors. Garry Lynch and Jack Savage were the Parnells players who along with their u15 team mates defeated Down to reach the All Ireland u15 semi- final on August 31st. The u13’s got their game against Lixnaw who were missing a number of players. Three Parnells players lined out with Lixnaw for a friendly game. The u12’s retained their u12 St Pats Poc Fada title. The u12 girls enjoyed their Blitz in Limerick. The u10 boys were in Killarney and played a combined Crokes / St Pat team to advance to the Intermediate semi-final. In the u21 hurling championship Round 1 is on August 21st. There are good numbers at the summer camp going on this week. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The u6’s and u8’s train as normal this week with the u8’s travelling to Kilcummin on Thursday 22nd for a challenge game. The u10’s were in Youghal for their Invitational Tournament. They enjoyed a great day against clubs from all over Munster. They will also be going to Kilcummin on the 22nd. The u12’s are involved in their Central League games and this Monday will be at home to An Gaeltacht. The 12’s will head to Dublin for the Templeogue/Synge St Club tournament on Sunday September 15th. The Annual Lee Strand u13 Tournament will take place on September 7th and 8th. The 13’s are at home to Ardfert on this Thursday. The 14’s finished their Central League Division 4 as champions. The u16’s were due to play Legion in their County League final having reached the decider thanks to an extra time win over Laune Rangers. The u16’s are delighted to have been invited to take part in the blitz hosted by the Killarney Legion this Saturday which is being hosted in memory of the late Niall McGillicuddy who sadly passed away last year. The club is disappointed for Luke Chester and Adam Curran who were part of the unlucky Kerry minor team. The club wants to thank all the coaches and volunteers who made the recent club camp such a success. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 2,15,16 and 27. The draw was done on Monday night due to Kerry’s involvement in Croke Park on Sunday. The jackpot this weekend will be e7,200 with the draw in

O’Dwyers Bar. Academy: After the free Sunday the Academy is back this week from 10.30am. The 13’s went down by 2 points at home to John Mitchels in the Tralee Town League Division 2 and were set to play Na Gaeil last night. The u14 Girls continued their North Kerry League Division 5 campaign against Ballymac B while the u14’s were in action against Na Gaeil at home. The seniors play their last match in the County League this Sunday the 18th of August in Blennerville against Firies at 1.30pm. They are calling on their supporters to come out in support of the team. The u21’s were due to play Annascaul last night, Thursday August 15th in the quarter final of the Acorn Life Championship. They beat Rahilly’s in the first round. Best of luck to St Brendan's who play East Kerry in round 1 of the SFC on Saturday, 31st August in Blennerville (time to be confirmed) with extra time to be played if required. Former St Pats star, Seamus Murphy is the team manager. The recently held Cúl Camp in Blennerville was a success with over 80 kids participating. Thanks to all the coaches who helped with imparting their knowledge onto these future stars and also to Kellogg’s for sponsoring such a great initiative and to the Kerry County Board for co-ordinating it. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The u21 side suffered a tough loss going down 3-20 to 2-20 after extra time in the first round of the Acorn Life Football Championship. The game was tied 1-15 to 2-12 at the end of normal time. There was also bad news for the club with the minors losing out to Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane 4-16 to 2-14 in the Central Region Minor semi-final. Girls Section: There will be great excitement this Saturday, the 17th, when the club hosts the nontrophy u8 and u10 Munster Ladies Blitz. The games start at 11am. The u12’s enjoyed their blitz which was hosted by Austin Stacks last Thursday. The 15’s were big winners over Glenflesk to reach the County Championship final where they will face either Legion or Castlegregory. The North Kerry League for the u16 girls commences on September 3rd. The team are in Division 2 and are home to Castlegregory the first game. The u17’s will be away to Glenflesk in their semi-final. The senior Ladies battled hard away to Beale/Ballyduff in Round 1 of the North Kerry League Division 2 but went down by 4 points. The club thanks Dunnes Stores and all the staff for allowing them to hold a bag packing fundraiser recently. Next Wednesday there will be an outing to Castlegregory ahead of the return to school. Details are available from club officers. Academy kits and other preordered club gear can be collected. After a break of three weeks Juvenile Academy will return to normal next Sunday, August 18th at

11a.m. in Healy Park, Ballyrickard. Boys: The u12 boys saw off Annascual/ Lispole in the Central Region 5-13 to 3-11. The u13’s were in Town League action and went down to Na Gaeil. They were due to play John Mitchels last night –Thursday. SUMMER CYCLING SEASON COME TO AN END WITH COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Kerry Road Race League came to an exciting conclusion in the rain last week with Cathal Moynihan ending up as League winner. The Tralee Manor West rider and his squad kept Conor Kissane out of the points and while Marcus Treacy’s win on the night meant he finished level on points with Cathal the former Olympian took the title having won two rounds to Conor’s one. With no racing this week the riders will be getting ready for County Championships which will be hosted by the Killarney Cycling club this year. They will take place over a new 15km circuit around Beaufort on August 22nd. Underage racing will begin at 6.15pm and the senior racing from 7.15pm. Prize giving for the League and the Championships will take place in the Inn Between after racing. The following week will see the TT County Championships over the 20km course and these will be hosted by the Tralee Manor West club as will the National Hill Climb championships in September. BOYS AND GIRLS ON INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL DUTY: Tralee basketball fans have been keeping an eye on the u16 Men’s team at their Euro’s. Sean and Tim PollmanDaamen are on the squad which is coached by Warriors Pat Price. In Montenegro they bounced back from an opening day loss to defeat Georgia 88-58. But on Saturday they found Portugal too good for them. They rounded off their group games with a big 82-50 point win over Cyprus. They rounded off their Group phase by going down narrowly to the Netherlands before the Classification rounds, for 9th to 16th places, begins today Friday. Next into action are Castleisland’s Paris McCarthy and Kenmare’s Tania Slavado who are part of the U16’s Women’s team that are in Bulgaria for their European Championship Division B running from August 15th and 24th. MIKE TAKES THE TITLE: The Donald Walsh Swim, sponsored by Dominic Walsh Photography went ahead a day after scheduled due to the mixed summer weather. The fastest in the non-wetsuit

category was Mike O’Regan who took the Plaque. The Trophy went to Gerry Gallagher. The fastest in the various groups were Group A – Rosie Foley with Martin O’Regan second, Group B went to Clare Neenan from Donie O’Sullivan. Group C was won by Gerry Gallagher with Paudie Griffin 2nd. On the down side the Across the Bay Challenge, hosted by the Tralee Bay Swimming Club, was postponed due to high winds. It has been rescheduled for Saturday August 24th. FIRST’S WIN BUT 3RD’S LOSE: Despite the weather the crease at the Oyster Oval in the S pa held up wonderfully for the visit of Limerick 1st XI. Kerry bowled the visitors out for 176 which gave them a target they were confident of chasing down. And they reached this target for the loss of only three wickets to end on 178 and win by 7 wickets. The Kerry 3rds held Lismore to just 141 but were unable to mount any challenge on their chase and were all out for 76. This weekend on Saturday Kerry 2 are away to Limerick Blasters 1 in the Munster Cricket Division 1 while the County Kerry 4 are at home to Limerick 4 in Spa. On Sunday County Kerry 3 are away to Cork Harlequins 3 at Farmers Cross in the Munster Cricket Division 2. ON THE GREEN’S – PITCH AND PUTT KERRY THREE-PEAT AT MUNSTER U16 LEVEL: A third successive Munster title for Kerry at U-16 level was the highlight of the weekend’s Munster Inter-County Pitch & Putt Championships in Hillview, Clonmel Co Tipperary from a Kerry perspective as the Kerry 1 team of Cillian Courtney, Robbie Harnett, Eoin O’Riordan Looney and Jake Shine had an 11 stroke victory over their counterparts from Cork. The Kerry 2 team of Bobby McCarron, Ryan Neeson, Jack O’Sullivan and Ryan McCarthy finished outside the medals meanwhile in fourth on a combined score of 337, 15 shots behind Cork 2 who came third. The Kerry Men’s teams meanwhile finished outside the medals in their grades (fourth in all three) with the Senior side four shots off third place Limerick on Sunday. The team was Jamie Blake, Alan Hobbart, James Dignan, Aidan O’Connor, John McGrath and Damien Fleming.

The team was Gearoid Cronin, Richard Bunyan, Danny O’Leary, Eamon Sheehy, John O’Brien and Adam Kelly. The Junior Men’s side on Saturday meanwhile came the closest to being in the shake-up for the title finishing 10 strokes off the winning score of Tipperary with Kerry’s total of 498 four shots off third placed Cork in the finish. This weekend sees Deerpark’s John McGrath travels to take part in the European Strokeplay Championships in Dagenham, England while the County Board would also like to wish both Deerpark’s Robbie Harnett and Listowel’s Jake Shine the best of luck in the National Community Games Finals in Limerick.
