A non-principal private residence charge exemption needs to be applied for from the local council where one lived in the house from 2009-2013 with proof of this otherwise a €7000 charge could apply.

All local property tax needs to be paid up to the end of the year of sale with refund of overpayment proportionately by the purchaser.

The Date is set , The Couples are chosen ...for StrictlyBallyHeigue!

A particular area of difficulty recently with the increase in house prices if where the house sale price exceeds what is registered for local property tax and a special clearance may be required from the Revenue Commissioners in relation to this. Therefore, an eye needs to be kept on values to ensure one is in the correct local property tax band.

David and Sandra are selling their house and hoping to downsize as their children have left home. They are in the process of cleaning, painting, and decluttering but are wondering what else they need to do in terms of preparation of the house for sale particularly from the legal point of view.

Ballyheigue GAA Strictly Come Dancing 2022 will take place at The Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Saturday, 5 November. Following a number of challenging years, the team are hoping that this year’s event will be a brilliant event as the couples have been chosen and are ready to be put through their paces under the watchful eye of Joe Burkett

or

Details of water supply and sewage disposal are needed and a certificate of registration with Irish Water which everybody got first day so hang onto it. David and Sandra are married so they need to let their solicitor have a copy of their marriage certificate.

Every house is individual, so it is important to get the legal advice on sale early to go through a documents checklist and make sure the title documents are to hand and to provide your solicitor with photo ID and proof of address along with PPS numbers.

When people are selling their home, they might look at the cosmetic issues, but it is important to look at the structure of the dwelling as the prospective purchaser will be getting a structural survey usually. Issues that often arise and can result in a price reduction are defects around the septic tank, pipes and drainage, lack of vents, insufficient insulation e.g., in the attic, leaks, non-compliance with building regulations inter alia. An essential document required for sale usually is a certificate from an engineer that the property is built in compliance with the planning permission if it was built post 1/10/1964 or if built before that date that any extension, development or change of use since that date is in compliance with planning permission or exempt. Moreover, if there is a septic tank in situ a purchaser will require that the septic tank and percolation area are within the site boundaries. While the purchaser will check that the title map complies with the boundaries on the ground it is no harm to check these yourself to ensure there is no difficulty with these in case a boundary rectification is required.

Kerry female entrepreneurs are urging others from the county to join the latest cycle of ACORNS - a highlysuccessful development initiative to support early-stage female entrepreneurs living in rural Ireland. The call for applications for the latest cycle of the programme — ACORNS 8— was launched earlier this month by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue T.D. Down Syndrome Kerry’s annual charity cycle “Tom Crean Unsung Hero ”takes place on Saturday 24th September

A total of 50 new entrepreneurs will be selected and the free initiative will run over six months from October 2022 to April 2023 with the deadline for applications midnight on September 23, 2022. This is the eighth year of the ACORNS programme and over 350 female entrepreneurs have taken part to date and a significant proportion of these are still actively involved. Past participants from Kerry include: Emilie Mjorndal of Emilie’s Woodfired Kitchen, Sara Ross of FiorSó Jewellery and Emily Brick of Athena Emilie’sAnalytics.Woodfired Kitchen is a restaurant and pizzeria based in Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry. It is one of two eateries serving artisanal fare owned and operated by Emilie Mjorndal. She was a participant on ACORNS 7. Emilie says: “ACORNS is an incredible community filled with strong and creative women. The strength of the group lies in its variety. You get absolutely energized by the interactions and feel like you could take on the world. I feel like I have finally found my Saratribe.”Ross was also on last year’s programme. She operates her firm, FiorSó Jewellery, from her studio in Kilflynn where she makes statement jewellery inspired by the Art Deco and Art Nouveau influences in London, Paris and SaraShanghaisays:“ACORNS has been invaluable in terms of focussing my mind on taking actions that are going have the biggest impact on my business and profit. Having an open forum of other entrepreneurialminded women who, although in very different sectors, who are going through the same things all young businesses go through, and with whom to bounce off (and test) ideas has been amazing!” Emily Brick was a participant on ACORNS 4. Her company, Athena Analytics, is a data analytics company focused on the education and assessment space. Emily says: “Being involved in ACORNS gives you a network of people in a similar situation that you can turn to whenever you have an issue. You face a lot of obstacles in business and you’ve a lot of people against you so it’s great to know you have the ACORNS Community behind you to support you.” Kerry also boasts one of the voluntary Lead Entrepreneurs on the programme – Caroline Reidy of The HR Suite. Caroline says: “The ACORNS programme acts as a support structure to female entrepreneurs in rural Ireland by giving them guidance and support as they navigate their start-up venture. The ethos of shared learning, supporting, guiding, and mentoring means you are in a safe environment and have a Lead Entrepreneur and a tribe of entrepreneursfellowavailable to support you on your journey. I’m involved for a number of years and every year people compliment what they gain in terms of knowledge, support and confidence. It’s a unique and hugely beneficial programme for any female entrepreneur who would like to grow their business so take the first step and apply. It will be the start of an exciting journey for you personally and for your Carolinebusiness.”sayssheis honoured and delighted to be a Lead Entrepreneur again this year. Based on a belief that entrepreneurs learn best from each other, ACORNS is centred on interactive round table sessions facilitated by successful female entrepreneurs who have started and grown businesses in rural Ireland. These are known as ACORNS Lead Entrepreneurs, and they give their time free of charge to encourage and support the new business owners.

Mary O Donnell, Brand Representative Mary

Due to the increase in the cost of living we are looking at how we can reduce your bills and a good chunk of these are your energy costs and entertain ment subscriptions. Here are some suggestions on how to keep on top of them. Change your broadband provider every year. I was paying €30 per month to Vodafone but when the contract was up it increased to €75 per month, so I switched to Eir and now I am only paying €34.99 for the next 12 months. All this can be done online via a simple phone call. If you have sky TV, take a look at what channels you watch because you may nd that a lot of them are on Free to Air and Saorview. if you are missing some of your programs that are only available on Sky TV. Sky is o ering the entertainment pack for €9.99 for six months on their Now tv Stick Energy costs have increased hugely in recent months and all the main suppliers have announced big price hikes that will add hundreds to people's annual bills. The best way to save money on this is to switch providers. Go to bonkers.ie to compare providers. This process will take a bit of time but there is a huge saving to be had THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES.

Sean Higgins has coordinated collection from Parkgate Coffee, Yummy Café, and The Ugly Mug. This coffee waste will be mixed with green waste and cuttings and after months of treating the compost, it will be given, free of charge, to Tralee Tidy Towns to use in their town planting projects. What an excellent way of reducing, reusing and sharing resources. The project is funded by Kerry County Councils Community Support Fund and we say: thanks everyone for waking up and smelling the coffee. Or the compost! Doesn’t matter. Either way it’s the smell of bio-cycling success!

Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Mikey Sheehy hailed the opening of the public space at the Island of Geese as ‘a very special day for Tralee.’

This week sees the launch of this year’s Great Pink Run with Glanbia. The now global event, which has seen participants from 36 countries take part to date, returns in a physical and a virtual sense this year – allowing participants to take part in one of the live large-scale physical events taking place in Dublin at Leopardstown Race Course and surrounding areas, on Sunday 9th October, or in Kilkenny Castle Park on Sunday 16th October. Alternatively participants can also take part in a ‘virtual’ sense in their own local communities any time between 9-16th October.

As an indication of the sheer scale of this event, to date, almost 70,000 people have taken part in the Great Pink Run since 2011, raising over €5.4 million euro to support pioneering research across Ireland – The Great Pink Run events are entirely inclusive, aimed at casual strollers, keen walkers, joggers and seasoned runners alike and are open to all age groups, families, friends and solo participants, who have the option of running, jogging, walking, wheeling, or even scooting over either a 10k or a 5k Registrationscourse.

behaviour and reduced physical activity in mental illness arise from many variables, including the nature of the illnesses, the medication associated with them, social isolation, poverty, stigma, and exclusion. Aclú seeks to improve health outcomes for those living with enduring mental illnesses by increasing physical activity, reducing sedentariness, and improving nutrition with the support of digital technologies. Commenting on Aclú Catherine Carty, Co-Principal Investigator Aclú & UNESCO Chair Manager at MTU said; “People with Enduring Mental Illness (EMI) have a high risk of health inequality. As the gap in life expectancy for those with and without EMI issues continues to rise, this is a priority in health”. “Focusing specifically on enduring mental illness, Aclú seeks to reframe mental health through a pioneering multi-disciplinary approach. Aclú research group aims to demonstrate national and international leadership in mental health through physical activity, nutrition, and digital technologies. Human rights and sustainable development approaches will underpin Aclú.

“The United Nations is clear that 'there is no health without mental health’. Yet, EMI treatment lags behind physical health care globally and all countries have been labelled as 'developing' when it comes to mental health”.

Anyone interested in, working in or living with Enduring Mental Illness are welcome to attend this free launch event. The event is hybridboth on campus and online. In his acceptance speech to members of the Academy, Bernard looney said, “Ireland has an incredibly rich engineering tradition and I am honoured to join the Irish Academy of Engineering as a Fellow. The An Taisce report for Portmagee harbour stated: “A very well presented and maintained environment with colourful planting in the immediate hinterland; despite the lack of litter bins, it managed to score well with regard to litter - apart from cigarette butts and coffee cups, the main visible items were water-based marine items e.g. fishing lines, nets, ropes etc. Dog fouling signage appeared to be having the desired effect as there was minimal dog fouling; the recycle facility was well laid out, visitor information signage, seating and paving were all in very good order.” The An Taisce report for Dingle harbour stated: “A freshly presented environment with paving, bins, signage, seating, planting etc. in good order and well maintained. The area along the marina / waterfront was good with regard to litter but the rock armour harboured large amounts of plastic bottles, sweet wrappers and marine related items e.g. ropes, nets, fishing lines. Cigarette butts were pronounced along the kerb of one car park; other land-based items included coffee cups, fast-food wrappers, very obvious levels of chewing gum and some dog fouling. The extensive recycle facility / Bring Centre was well presented, with no notable litter in the immediate vicinity.”

Kevin Prunty and his colleague Kieran from KP Therapy had a very successful Open Day last Saturday morning , both in the Brandon Car Park where they were seen tending to a few people from the Saturday morning Park Run and then later over in their State of the Art rooms in the Brandon Hotel Conference Centre . Here Kevin announced some lucky winners to their fantastic generous Spot Prizes for some of their most popular treatments .

The annual nationwide survey by business group Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) of beaches and harbours has shown Dingle falling to littered status, while Ballybunion and Portmagee are both deemed ‘moderately littered’. Overall, litter levels are on the rise, with only 8 of 33 areas surveyed receiving the ‘Clean’ designation. Alongside its impact on tourism and recreation, IBAL is warning that coastal litter has grave implications for the future of our planet.

The An Taisce report for Ballybunion stated: “A lovely beach environment which was generally good with regard to litter but there were too many food and cigarette related items on the steps to the beach, and along the car park. There were some 'water borne' plastic items along the beach, entangled in the seaweed. A rusty blue barrel bin had been modified with a new lid to accept litter - a good initiative as the 'open' barrel style bins only encourage foraging by birds. The Recycle Units were very freshly presented and clean, with some nonrecyclable items stuffed to the rear. Litter signage 'We all love to Travel, so does Litter, Take It Home' greeted visitors at the entrance to the beach.”

Summer litter survey –

Business

“Unfortunately the improvement observed at our beaches last year seems to have reversed this time round,” commented IBAL’s Conor Horgan. “We had hoped that the decline in Covid-related litter might bring an improvement in overall cleanliness, added to the fact that many who staycationed last year would have travelled abroad this summer. Our most popular beaches are not heavily littered, but they’re not as clean as they should be.” With 10 million tonnes of plastic ending up in our oceans each year, it is estimated that there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans within 30 years. Research shows a single cigarette butt can contaminate up to 200 litres of water.

WHEN SPORT GOES WRONG THE WHOLE COUNTRY GRIEVES: This week we start on the sad note of remembering the late Jack de Bromhead whose funeral took place on Wednesday after his tragic death at the Glenbeigh Races. We think of his family, relatives and friends at this toughest of times. But a tragic accident like this has wider repercussions and our thoughts are with the Glenbeigh Races Committee, the emergency services who did everything they could, the volunteers who had given their time to ensure that everybody enjoyed their day out and also all the spectators who were there. The death of a young person in sport is thankfully a very rare occurrence when you consider the numbers who take part in such a wide variety of sports every Butweekend.itdoes happen and many of us involved in sport either on or off the field have unfortunately seen these tragedies in the past. We remember not just Jack but all those young sports persons from Kerry who have passed on much too early. We think of their families, friends and club mates. All we can do is to remember them and honour their memory by making sure their favourite sport continues in the best way it can.
