KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARD Answer An emergency medical card is a temporary medical card that is issued without a means test in certain emergency situations and is valid for 6 months. For example, you could be issued an emergency medical card in an acute medical crisis where you need urgent treatment that you cannot afford without a medical card. Only a healthcare professional (for example, a doctor or consultant) can apply for an emergency medical card for you. They must include a detailed medical report with the application. The application will be reviewed by a Health Service Executive (HSE) medical officer. If your application is approved, it can take 7 to 10 days to get your emergency medical card in the post. However, your card will be active straight away so you can get the care you need. You will need to complete a means assessment before your emergency medical card expires. The HSE will write to you when you need to do this. The means assessment is for a full medical card for you and your family. In some cases, the medical officer may recommend a terminal illness card. These are given to people who are getting ‘end of life’ treatment. This means a prognosis of less than 12 months to live. If you get a terminal illness card it will never be reviewed and will not expire.

When I Grow Up... An Entrepreneur!
60% of eleven and twelveyear-old Irish children say that they would like to be an entrepreneur in the future, according to a major new survey of 8000 children who spent 12-16 weeks creating classroom businesses in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme in 2019. 60% of girls indicated that they would choose entrepreneurship as their career, according to a major new study. 53% of boys reported that they would consider entrepreneurship as a career in the future, according to the survey in which 8,000 of the 16,000 pupils completing the programme in 28 counties across the island. The survey is one of the largest ever known to have been undertaken in Irish Primary schools. 96% of pupils responded that they enjoyed working in a team during their JEP experience and 99% indicated that they enjoyed becoming classroom entrepreneurs on the programme. Every child put forward their own idea for the classroom business and a shortlist are pitched to Dragons from their local community, selecting one business idea which the whole
class gets behind. The survey reported a strong message from the 700 teachers who participated was that setting up a classroom business was enjoyed by pupils. 99% of teachers reported that the children enjoyed the experience, while 96% reported that the programme was beneficial to the pupils. 89% of teachers reported that JEP helped facilitate the delivery of the core Primary School curriculum, though its use of maths, English, art and other subjects. During the programme, children in 700 classes were mentored by local entrepreneurs from their communities. Every one of the children involved invested in their classroom business and was rewarded with a share of the profits from successful businesses. The children invested their own money to launch the classroom businesses which had sales of €320,264 in 2019 producing a nett profit of €198,215. 67,000 children have taken part in the programme since it was launched in 2010. “At 11 or 12 years of age children get a chance to learn
about entrepreneurship, meet entrepreneurs in their local area and each child comes up with a business idea in 12 weeks. It’s just a like a real start-up business, with pupils allocated to market research, marketing, sales, finance and production. Every child invests a small amount of money and reaps the profits from the enterprise. They learn fast when they are talking about their own money” according to Tweak.com founder Jerry Kennelly, whose company sponsors JEP. Signup has opened for the 2020 Junior Entrepreneur Programme, which is free of charge to pupils and schools. Teachers can can up at www. juniorentrepreneur.ie until October 4th.

programmes offered during the 18/19 academic year: in Dance Studies, Theatre Studies, Animation, Computer Games, Emergency Services, Journalism, Pre-Garda and Youthwork. From this September, Kerry College Clash Road Campus and Denny Street Campus is again increasing its range of courses on offer. With the new entity “Kerry College of Further Education and Training” across the county, it is easy to see why the Kerry College is rapidly becoming the “First Choice” for school leavers and mature students.
The positive impact further education has had on graduates was shared all evening with stories of successful outcomes being achieved through employment
or progression to desired third level course. In particular, representing the leaving certificate students Kasey O Connor told a captivated audience how lost she felt when she received her leaving certificate results even though she was offered her first choice to do a course in an amazing college. She knew she wasn’t mature enough to move away and enrolled for the year studying Applied Social Studies with Psychology “ I can openly and honestly say it is probably the best decision I’ve ever made for myself, this year has not only taught me so much about myself, but it has taught me so many practical skills that I will carry with me to university” Kasey is now progressing to University... Guest of Honour was Nikki Bradley - who made an inspirational contribution about how everybody encounters obstacles but that they can be overcome with resilience and willpower. Director of Further Education and Training KerryETB, Owen O Donnell acknowledged the strong work ethos of the graduates without which they could not have achieved what they did. He also acknowledged the support each graduate received from their families and the college
staff which helped them as they made their journey towards success. He spoke about the continued growth of Kerry College and future plans for the provision of education and training programmes for students locally, regionally and nationally. Cllr Terry O’Brien wished all the graduates well in their future endeavours. Exciting times ahead for Kerry College.

How does it work? Coaches help clients understand the world of work and their own personal development – and to find the sweet spot where the two meet. Career coaching involves skills assessment, establishing a career action plan, and the enhancement of employability. Why should I pay someone else to coach me? As Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google recounts; the best advice he ever got, initially resented but now always gives is to have a coach. A great coach is somebody who looks at something with another set of eyes, they give you perspective, the one thing you can’t give yourself, and a system to tackle future challenges and succeed.

MY BACK IS KILLING ME!!
Age related wear and tear on spinal discs can cause low back pain referred to as degenerative disc disease. Inter-vertebral disc are tough fibrous structures that absorb pressure and provide cushioning for the spinal column. Discs are flexible yet sturdy enough to facilitate movement.
Despite what the name suggests degenerative disc disease is not considered a disease nor does it worsen with time. Most cases consist of a low grade, continuous but tolerable back ache that will occasionally intensify for a few days or more. Pain will typically feel better or worse with certain movements or positions. •
Pain when sitting for prolonged periods often causes more severe back ache and stiffness when moving to a standing position which could have you hawling yourself out of the chair
•
like the hunchback of notre dame. Pain can be relieved by walking around or changing positions which relieves the pressure on the disc.
Pain is typically caused by strain on the muscles supporting the spine and inflammation around the disc space. Both of these factors can easily be managed….. Don’t suffer in silence! Book and assessment with a Chartered Physiotherapist and take positive action to effectively manage your symptoms. “You can’t go back and make a brand new start but, you can start now and make a brand new ending”

Fenit RNLI Lifeboat Open day this Sunday celebrates 25 years The volunteer crew of Fenit RNLI is delighted to celebrate the re-in statement of the lifeboat service to Fenit exactly 25th years ago this month. To mark this very special occasion, along with other activities, it is hoped that supervised tours of the lifeboat station and the lifeboats will take place on the day. The Irish Coast Guard helicopter R115 based at Shannon is hoped to be in attendance if possible on the day. Fenit RNLI Lifeboat Station currently has two lifeboats in service with a volunteer crew providing a twenty four hours callout service every day of the year. There is an All Weather Lifeboat which can
be used in rough seas and can cover a distance of 250 miles. The Inshore Lifeboat can provide assistance closer to the shoreline. The area covered by Fenit Lifeboats can reach from the seas off Loop Head and the Shannon Estuary to beyond the west coast of Kerry and sometimes beyond that. The lifeboat works very closely with its other Search and Rescue counterparts including the Irish Coast Guard and supports other RNLI stations and local search agencies if requested to do so.The RNLI is very cognisant of the voluntary ethos of the organisation and is extremely appreciative of the generosity of the
public far and wide who contribute to the success and provision of the service. Lifeboat Operations Manager, Gerard O’Donnell commenting on this milestone said “we are delighted to reach 25 years of public service and to invite people to experience the workings of Fenit Lifeboat Station. The uppermost thought at the station is to save lives at sea and offer assistance to bring as people to safety as possible. This will be an enjoyable family day and an opportunity to raise awareness of safety at sea”. Gerard also urged people to
be as prepared as possible when going to sea and if there is ever any doubt about safety to either dial 999 or 112 and ask for the coast guard. The open day will take place on Sunday next, 8th September from 12pm - 6pm and all are welcome to join us. For more advice on how to float and other water safety advice visit RespectTheWater.com

Six Kerry businesses nominated for Q Mark awards The National Q Mark Awards 2019 nominations have been announced and representing County Kerry this year for the much sought-after National Q Mark Award are: Healy-Rea’s MACE Kilgarvan, Fitzpatrick’s SPAR Express Cahersiveen, Heaphy’s SPAR Listowel, Heaphy’s SPAR Express Listowel, Byrne’s SPAR
Tralee and Keane’s SuperValu Killorglin. Being included on this list of nominations means these businesses are ranked in the top 6% of all audits completed by the EIQA on the island of Ireland. The coveted Q Mark is awarded only to companies who achieve the highest standards of quality and excellence. The 2019 National Q Mark Awards will take place on Friday the 27th of September at The Clayton Hotel in Dublin 4. The impressive black-tie ceremony, hosted by inimitable broadcaster
Friday 6th September 2019
Jonathan Healy, will see almost 120 companies battle it out for 1 of only 19 prestigious Q Mark Awards and the two much coveted National Titles. Known as The Oscars of Business Excellence, this is the highest accolade an Irish business can achieve, given both the intense competition and the exacting standards required. Speaking at the announcement Irene Collins, Managing Director of EIQA said, “Huge credit has to be given to all the nominated businesses. They have set excellence as the hallmark for their customers. This year’s nominees really do

have a prevailing attitude and commitment to continuous improvement. Such is the standard that the judges have a very difficult task ahead of them to pick the winners.” Only businesses that achieve the highest scores at audit are shortlisted in their relevant category. Once shortlisted, all companies must complete a very detailed submission document. This submission document is then presented to an expert panel of independent judges from the areas of Food Safety, Employment Law, Academia, Business & Quality to name but a few. Beauty
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I hope you’re all having an amazing week.
This week I want to talk about my go to face for work. I love sleep and don’t like getting up early so getting ready quickly is essential!
STEP 1Cleanse & moisturize face -
I never skip this step. Throughout the night you’re tossing and turning and sweating which is blocking those pores. Cleansing your face in the morning to ensure it’s clean & ready for the day ahead is key.
STEP 2 After my moisturizer I go
straight in with one of the Clarins SOS Primers (the fatigue or radiance ones are my favorites). These primers really brighten & awaken my skin.
my Milani Luminoso Blush.
STEP 5
Brows: The darkest brown shade in the SoSu X Keilidh Urban Bible Palette has been my go to for my brows!
STEP 6
Eyes - Usually I just use a light brown shadow to define the eyes, a pop of mascara & then if I wanna feel glam I use my Stila Magnificent Metals Kitten Karma Glitter - which takes two seconds and makes you look like you made a way more effort.
STEP 7
STEP 3 Foundation - after I clean and dampen my beauty blender I go in with the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation.
I set everything using my Morphe Setting Spray (if I accidentally skip this step my makeup honestly does not feel right)
STEP 4 I set with my Laura Mercier
STEP 8 Lips - Either a red lip
Translucent Powder, Bronze with the Urban Decay Beached Bronzer & Highlight with the Anastasia Beverly Hills X Amrezy Highlighter. I then use
(Kylie Cosmetics Red Velvet) or my Urban Decay lip liner & some Fenty gloss and I’m good to go! I know for some people that might seem like a lot, to others it might seem like nothing, but I honestly zoom through it in 10-15 mins and I’m good to go.
TOP TIP:
A red lip makes everything look more glam!

WHY TAKE SUPPLEMENTS? Most surveys of eating habits conducted since the 1990’s show that even people who claim to eat a good balanced diet may still fall short of optimum levels of essential vitamins and minerals. Why, you may wonder does a good diet not contain all the vitamin and minerals we need for health? Studies show us that nutrient levels in food are falling. Refining food [turning brown into white] also strips away valuable nutrients. Poor intake of nutrients may have a negative effect on your overall heath, also sluggish digestion leads to poor absorption of essential vitamins and minerals from our food. Most people put up with feeling “all right” and may be more prone to regular colds, have low energy, poor digestion, low moods and much more. Ensure your diet is as rich in nutrients as possible. This along with increased intake of certain vitamin and minerals can boost immunity, increase energy and promote a healthy life. Some of the supplements to consider include: ONE NUTRITION POWER GREENS: available in powder or capsule form. This super food will help ensure you get your daily intake of all your essential vitamins and minerals. Helps with improved energy levels, strengthens immune system, better digestion and visibly improved Hair, skin and Nails. A GOOD QUALITY MULTIVITAMIN: it is important to ensure you TRALEE ADVERTISER
choose a multivitamin which suits your specific needs., e.g if stress is an issue for you, get a multi vitamin high in B vitamins. It is always a good idea to buy your supplements where you can get professional advice to ensure you are making the correct choice for you. DIGESTIVE ENZYME: gut health is a huge part of our immune system so keeping it healthy and in balance is key to good health. One capsule before each meal will help ensure this. ANTIOXIDANTS: these are nutrients that help the body from damage. While too much alcohol, smoking and poor diet harm the body, damage is also caused by everyday activities such as breathing polluted air, digesting food and fighting infection. The good news is that the body has an inbuilt repair system but needs particular nutrients such as Vitamin A, C, E, Co-Enzyme Q10 and Betacarotene to help eliminate toxins. As always we are available to advise you on which supplement suits your requirements best. Remember to take a good quality PROBIOTIC such as BIO-KULT OR OPTIBAC regularly, this helps maintain your healthy gut bacteria and ensures your are absorbing your nutrients for optimal health. Until next time, stay healthy.

FITNESS!
Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS
I hope you’re all having a great week!
I’ve been listening to and consuming a lot of content from James Smith (@jamessmithpt) recently.
I really like his no bs approach to losing fat and the whole fitness industry in general. Some people think he’s rude or find some of what he says offensive but the truth is… he’s trying to get his point across in a world where people idolize skinny teas, quick fix diets and fads. He is so full on with his approach because he has to make noise to be heard. His approach is simple, be more active, track calories (aka calorie deficit for fat loss, calorie surplus for gain and maintenance calories to maintain). What he says isn’t complicated, it’s very easy to grasp, yet some people still continue to do fads. He’s trying to educate. He doesn’t sell supplements or cookie cutter plans. He has an academy that is affordable and straight forward to use. His aim with the academy is for people to only need to use it for a short time and then they will have the tools themselves. Anyway, I digress. I mentioned James Smith because one of his teachings is to get your neat up (be more active throughout the day not spend hours on a treadmill). I
have been conscious of this and I wanted to ensure that I’m moving enough every day. So to ensure I stay on track I use FitBit Charge 3. I always try to hit over 10,000 steps per day, but I want to aim for 15,000+ for the next few weeks. And the Fitbit is a great way to ensure that I actually know I’m doing this.
Now I’m not saying that to be more active you need to buy a fitness tracker, and I know for some people that would not be a good idea mentally. But for me I like it. It keeps me accountable to myself and I’m more mindful to be more active throughout the day. Have a great week folks!

IT’S ONLY A JOKE A NEW YORK ATTORNEY REPRESENTING A WEALTHY ART COLLECTOR CALLED HIS CLIENT AND SAID TO HIM
"Saul, I have some good news and I have some bad news." The art collector replied, "I've had an awful day; let's hear the good news first." The attorney said, "Well, I met with your wife today, and she informed me that she invested $5,000 in two pictures that she thinks will bring a minimum of $15-20 million. I think she could be right." Saul replied enthusiastically, "Well done! My wife is a brilliant businesswoman! You've just made my day. Now I know I can handle the bad news. What is it?" The attorney replied, "The pictures are of you with your secretary."

SO THE POPE IS SUPER EARLY FOR HIS FLIGHT
He asks his driver on his way to the airport if he could drive around for a while because they have time to kill and he hasn't driven a car since becoming the pope. Naturally, he's a bit rusty, so he's driving poorly, when suddenly he sees police lights behind him. He pulls over and when the officer comes up to the window his eyes go wide. He says to the pope "Hold on for a minute," and goes back to his car to radio the chief. Cop: "Chief we have a situation. I've pulled over an important figure." Chief: "How important? A governor or something?" Cop: "No sir. He's bigger." Chief: "So, what? a celebrity or something?" Cop: "More important, sir." Chief: "A major politician?" Cop: "No sir, he's much more important." Chief: "WELL WHO IS IT!?" Cop: "Well actually I'm not sure. But the pope's his driver."

14 Kerry Producers make it as Blas na hÉireann 2019 finalists Blas na hÉireann, the Irsh food awards, have reached the penultimate stage of this year’s awards, with the announcement of the finalists who will go through to the final round of judging in Dingle at the Food Fair this October, with 350 producers from across Ireland reaching this coveted stage.
The finalists shortlisted from Kerry across a range of different categories are Beoir Chorca Dhuibhne (West Kerry Brewery), Camos Artisan Food Ltd., Casey's, Dick Mack's Brewhouse, Dingle Goat's Cheese, Dingle Whiskey Distillery, Harty's, Kennedy’s Butchers Dingle, Kerry Cow Farm Ltd., Killarney Brewing Company, Larkin's Bakery, O’Sullivan's Bakery, Quinlan’s Kerry Fish, Wellness Baking Listowel Ltd. The Blas na hÉireann awards are the biggest blind tasting of produce in the country, and the criteria on which the product is judged as well as the judging system itself, which was developed by Blas with the Food Science Dept of UCC and the University of Copenhagen that is now recognised as an industry gold standard worldwide. During the first round of judging which took place over the course of four weeks in June and July, over 2,500 entries were judged in UCC & TU Dublin, bringing the total number of finalists in each category down to just five. Each of these producer finalists will have their products tasted, compared, savoured and judged at the final of Blas na Éireann 2019 in Dingle on Thursday 3rd October. ...the weekend of the annual Dingle Food Fair. This is the 12th year of the biggest competition for quality Irish produce on the island Returning to this year’s Blas na hÉireann in Dingle is the hugely successful Backyard at Blas, an innovative meeting space designed to bring fellow producers together in a relaxed and informal way to meet, mingle and share experience and insights into running a business, and to offer support to those starting out. First supported by Bank of Ireland in 2017 and again last year, the talks series has proved so popular with attendees that Bank of Ireland have just signed a new deal for Backyard at Blas 2019. This September, Blas na hÉireann are going on the road with a special roadshow to help finalists get ready for the weekend in Dingle. They have been kindly welcomed by their partner Bank of Ireland to host special events across the country in their Bank of Ireland Workbench venues. These events will help finalists with details on the weekend of final judging, tips on how best to prepare from a press and buyer point of view, local information for travel, help on timings and how best to prepare your product for delivery and judging.

T ORQUING CARS ! Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read 36 NCT OPERATOR APPLUS+ RENEWS IRISH CONTRACT
The company that runs the NCT car test has had its contract renewed here until 2030. The company, Applus+ was chosen after a competitive tendering process to oversee the country's statutory vehicle inspection services. It operates 47 vehicle test stations countrywide and inspects more than 1.6 million vehicles a year. Last year, it carried out more than 16 million inspections globally. Since it began testing in Ireland in 2010 it has carried out around 17 million NCT inspections. Under the new contract, Applus+ expects to create more than 80 new jobs over the coming years. There are more than 800 people already employed by the company in Ireland. Applus+ is a major force in the field of vehicle inspection services. Its automotive division employs 4,500 professionals and provides services in countries such as Spain, Denmark, Finland, the US, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Uruguay and Andorra.
FORD FILES PATENT FOR TAILGATE-MOUNTED VIDEO PROJECTOR
Ford has filed a patent for a tailgate-mounted video projector, allowing drivers to turn their cars into mobile cinemas. The patent, filed by Ford Global Technologies, describes a video projector mounted on a car’s tailgate. When the boot is open, films or television programmes can be projected from the rear of the car. The wording of the patent suggests the video would be stored on the user’s smartphone, to which the car would be connected. The projector can also act as a light for illuminating the area behind the car. In addition, it has the ability to emit a yellow light that attracts insects, before electrocuting them with a built-in bug zapper. It follows Tesla’s recent announcement that it will offer in-car video streaming via the main infotainment screen, allowing drivers to watch Netflix and YouTube when the vehicle is stationary. The video projector is not Ford’s first hi-tech patent. The manufacturer has previously patented a system that removes ‘new car smell’ from newly built vehicles by having the windows automatically open and close and, if necessary, starting the engine and using the ventilation system to circulate air.The firm also revealed its ‘Robutt’ robotic bottom at the start of 2019, which is used in factories to test the effects of someone’s sweat against a car seat, assessing its durability.
PERSONALISED NUMBER PLATE GOES ON SALE IN THE UK FOR £725,000 - WHY IS IT SO PRICEY?
A personalised number plate has gone on sale in the UK with a very premium price tag. Owner Saud Khan has put the registration on sale at RegTransfers, a number plate selling website with a hefty price tag. The plate is '4RAB' (ARAB) which could attract a big number of wealthy Arabs across the Gulf Region. He claims that the asking price for the number plate is a whopping £725,000, although on the website it says POA (price on application).Saud Khan said: "4RAB (Arab) is a remarkably eye catching number plate."This prestigious commodity is a status symbol that aims to attract the arab nationals more so the elite expatriates of the Gulf regions that include UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia. "Additionally, the word ‘Arab’ is figurative to ‘power, status, wealth and pride’.What makes this plate unique and desirable is the number of digits that are rare which makes this plate even more appealing to number plate fanatics."This number plate illustrates a clear formation of the word ‘Arab’ which will attract significant attention allowing owners to feel privileged and empowered. "This number plate is the ultimate winning investment on the market, making it even more irresistible due to the head turning attention it attracts.
NEW 2020 PORSCHE TAYCAN: INTERIOR TEASED
The all-electric Porsche Taycan will feature the world’s first infotainment system with fully integrated support for Apple Music Porsche has released a teaser image of the forthcoming, all-electric Taycan’s dashboard, ahead of the car’s scheduled launch at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The Taycan will be the German brand’s first allelectric vehicle, which, when it goes on sale in 2020, will go head-to-head with the Tesla Model S.The Porsche Taycan will be the world’s first vehicle with full integration for Apple Music and, as such, its infotainment system will feature a range of unique functions. For example, the car’s voice control function has been reconfigured, allowing owners to seamlessly search for songs, albums and playlists on Apple Music. All Taycans will come with a free six-month subscription to Apple Music and a complimentary three-year roaming internet connection. Buyers will also gain access to a range of exclusive Apple Music playlists, curated by Porsche for Taycan owners, while a high-quality Burmester surround sound system can be specced as an optional extra. Porsche’s latest Taycan development mule recently completed a 24 hour endurance test at the Nardo test track in Italy. During the run, a team of six Porsche development drivers covered 3,425km (2,128 miles), averaging between 121mph and 134mph, with only a handful of stops for recharging and driver changes. The pictured prototype still wears an intricate livery, so little more can be gleaned about the car’s styling. Our most recent spy shots provide a better indication of the Taycan’s design, revealing a surprising amount of 718 Boxster and Cayman influence at the front end. Smaller details, such as the retractable door handles, could also be picked out. The 600bhp-plus Taycan is expected to be the flagship model, but additional variants of the car, of which there is likely to be three, will vary from around 400bhp up to 600bhp. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told us: “We will think of different options and there will be more than one, with different levels of power.”All-wheel drive is expected to be standard on all versions initially, but it's possible that Porsche will launch a more affordable rear-wheel-drive edition in the future.

EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES!
TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE Get ADVERTISER your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read 40 would have to say that Kerry will probably take the most from the game. The experience gained is huge for this team and now they know they can beat Dublin. But knowing and doing it are different things.
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR
SAM STAYS FOR NOW BUT JOHNNY WENT: I don’t normally go over games for this column as there will have been reams written in all the papers but this was the All Ireland final and a historic one at that. BELIEF: During the build-up to the game there was a growing belief in the county and credit must go to whoever in the Radio Kerry sports department who came up with the Belief campaign. More and more colours appeared and everyone was looking forward to the game. Many were of the belief that the game would go either of two ways – Dublin would blow us away or we would raise our game and be in touch with ten minutes to go and push on to take a famous win. However on the day of the game Kerry fans seemed nervous but fans are not the ones playing the game! The Kerry side and management were certainly ready for the challenge and their pace and tenacity caught Dublin off guard early on. Indeed in the reviews this week Kerry will look back and say they should have had more scores on the board. But from a positive point of view they now know what they suspected up to this – the Dublin defence is porous when attacked in the right way. PENALTY: On the penalty firstly it was a penalty with David Clifford showing his footballing brain in the early part of the game that had Johnny Cooper frazzled. Paul Geaney’s penalty was a bit high but Stphen Cluxton was so far off his line that the angled was very much narrowed. On the keeper moving off his line you can’t blame him. It is up to the referee to pull him up and call for it to be re-taken. Cluxton got away with it even though the umpire was standing in line with the goal line. In truth the referee gave the Friday 6th September 2019
penalty but probably didn’t want to draw the ire of the team and crowd once it was being re-taken. In truth it is very rare for penalties in the GAA to be re-taken unlike in soccer. THE REFEREE: Dublin began to get a foothold in the game and opened a five point lead. And then came the sending off. Again the ref got it right. Sky Sports and RTE now have access to what the referee is saying as they have a feed into his live mic. So I think that this feed should be released after the game to help the referee. With Cooper he ticked him and then gave him the yellow with a warning so he had no option but to give him a red after the next foul. On the Tom Sullivan foul he got a yellow and then a ticking and a warning that if he fouled again he would also be walking to the line. The sending off probably came at the right time for Dublin as they had half time to sort things but again at the start of the second half it was Kerry that took the game to Dublin. THE FINAL QUARTER: And when it did look like Kerry were getting a grip on the game great credit must go to Dublin for again fighting back. The one part of the game Kerry will not be the happiest with is the final 10 minutes when they didn’t manage the game well. They took the ball into contact too often and Dublin forced the turnovers. The Dublin players had all the efforts for scores late on with Kerry unable to fashion one more score that got them over the line. And Dean Rock had a very difficult effort to win the game but it proved too hard even for a player of his ability. So after 34 scores the sides ended tied 1-16 a piece and must do it all again on Saturday week. SO WHO WILL TAKE THE MOST GOING INTO THE REPLAY: You
Dublin are not the team they were but will certainly have one last kick in them. We can all speculate on how much impact the sending off had on the game. If it stayed 15 on 15 would Dublin have pulled away. I don’t think so. But they do have players who will want to up their performance from last weekend’s game it is delicately balanced. It is easy to say that the two managers could have made quicker or different changes. But unless you were in their position you don’t know the pressure they are also under even if they look unflappable. I was in the tunnel for two All Ireland finals, when working with Liam O’Connor who was providing the entertainment. To see the two management teams up close is an experience and it’s a hectic place. Like all these calls if they work the manger is great and if they don’t he hasn’t a clue and it’s the same with making substitutions. Kerry are in wonderful position and it will make a fascinating build up and replay and while we don’t know the outcome one thing we can say is that for the moment the Drive for Five has been stalled at Four and a Half!! TIME OF THE REPLAY: Kerry fans are not happy with the 6pm throw in time for the replay on Saturday week and rightly so. Firstly when doing the calendar it makes no sense that the GAA did not keep Sunday the 15th free in case of a replay. I know this would involve moving the Ladies finals back a week if this was set at the start of the season then it wouldn’t be an issue. But they didn’t and so we have a Saturday reply which is of course a big working day in Dublin. So a 6pm start will suit the vast majority of Dublin fans who can do their days work, or most of it, before going to the game. Not that the GAA will admit this! From a Kerry point of view a late throw in like this means that many will not be home until the early hours of Sunday morning. For those driving it means many hours in the dark until they are home. There are talks that a special train will run after the game which will help but an afternoon throw in would certainly suit the travelling fans better. However I can’t see any change from the 6pm advertised. MINOR REPLAY? We must congratulate our neighbours minors with Cork taking a great victory after extra time. Having seen their semi-final display they went into the game as favourites but needed a last minute goal to force extra time against Galway. For players aged 17 they showed huge maturity after conceding in injury time to go down the field and get that goal. It certainly affected Galway in extra time and Cork pushed on. But the question must be asked
Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com
as to why there is extra time in the minor final? Surely these players deserve a second day out. Most likely this would not be in Croke Park but there are plenty of stadiums to host a game attracting 15 to 20,000. These players trained as hard as the seniors for the whole year and if they can’t be separated in the hour why not give them a second chance rather than 20 minutes extra time. CORMAC THE FASTEST ON THE ROAD TO TAKE THE TIME TRIAL COUNTY TITLE:
The summer cycling season in the county came to an end with the County Time Trial Championships hosted by the Tralee Manor West Cycling Club. Jerry McCarthy had already won the League but the County Champs are on the one night so there were plenty in contention to take the top prize. After a great battle over the 20km Cormac Daly of the host club was the fastest on the night taking over a minute and a half off his previous best time clocking 25.18. Second on the night was Cathal Moynihan also of Tralee Manor West with Killorglin’s Barry Fitzgerald taking third to go with his non aero League title. As well as being the overall winner Daly also took the A1 title while John James Griffin, Barry Fitzgerald and Joe Roche were the A2, A3 and A4 category winners. In the age categories there were some very fast times with Dave Kelly Tralee BC, Tom Gentleman Strata3 Velorevulotion and Tom Daly Killarney CC being crowned the M40, M50 and M60 County Champions. It was a very good year on the TT front with 3 record times set including Paul Kennedy’s. Tom Moriarty clocked a hugely impressive 26.32 for the Junior record while Jerry McCarthy set a new M50 record of 27.05. Next Up: The Tralee Manor West club will host the National Hill Climb Championships on September 29th on the hill by Craig Cave that was used for the Time Trial League. Up to 60 specialists are expected to contest the Championships.
AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there are the first rounds of the Tom O’Sullivan

The track is currently taking entries for the Crotta O’Neills GAA A5 confined 525 yards starting on Friday September 13th. BUMBULANCE TOURNAMENT AT
THE PARK A HUGE SUCCESS: Last Saturday Christy Leahy Park was a hive of activity when St Brendan’s Park hosted a major underage soccer tournament with the Bumbleance, the children’s ambulance provider, the beneficiary. Clubs paid e50 per team to take part and all attending donated at least e2 to this very worthy cause. On the field teams from Cork, Clare and Limerick at u11’s and u12’s joined the best of Kerry’s talent. In total over 320 players from 14 clubs took to the field in what was a huge undertaking for the volunteers associated with the Park. The u11 title went to Pike Rovers from Limerick with LB Rovers, Listowel Celtic and the host club taking the next three spots. In a good day for the Limerick club they also won the 12’s ahead of Killarney Athletic, the Park and Tralee Dynamos. SOCCER’S BACK: While the underage League of Ireland might be coming to an end the local season is just about to get underway. The next League of Ireland games are on the weekend of the 14th and 15th. The Kerry Schoolboys League will get underway this Saturday with games at the even ages. The League will have over 110 teams this season while the girls which will begin in a few weeks will have a record 31 teams showing continued huge growth. This month is a busy one for all those playing soccer with the Skechers National Cups starting with the uneven ages on the 14th and the Subway Inter League championships kicking off on the last weekend of the month. The Kerry District League will also get underway this weekend with the new Celsius Menswear League Cup. The Kerry District League thanked John Murphy and everyone at Celsius for coming on board to sponsor this new Cup ALL ABOARD FOR CROKE PARK: There will be another Kerry team in Croke Park this Sunday with

the Green and Gold been flown by the supporters in the stands. The Girls take on Limerick in the All Ireland Junior Camogie final, part of a triple header of final on the biggest day of the year for the sport. Among the big number of Kerry fans travelling will be a gang from the Parnell that are all set to travel to Dublin by train. We wish the girls and the management all the best and hopefully they will take inspiration from what the boys did on Sunday. STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: The under 6’s will train as usual on Sunday night while they will also train on Thursday evenings until the end of the month. The u8’s do the same and are looking forward to the John Mitchel’s Club Tournament that is fixed for September 14th but with a certain reply now on that evening the organisers will probably have a look at the date. The team are also looking forward to their annual trip to Cork’s St Finbarr’s club for the Canty Cup on the 15th. The 10’s are also training on both days ahead of their trip to the Douglas Club on the 14th while the u14’s are in Central League action and will be travelling to Dublin for the Templeogue/Synge Street club tournament and to Oranmore in Galway. The u13’s took on Milltown in the Town League and recorded a 5 point win in their toughest test to date. They will be in action in the Lee Strand Tournament in Connolly Park this weekend. The 14’s are on a break while the u16’s are getting ready for their Town League which starts when the District Championship is over. PARNELL’S NEWS: The u16’s hosted Causeway in the first match in the inaugural County League and this is a huge step forward for the game in the county. The girls put in a huge effort both in defence and attack with the forwards hitting 3 goals. This week the team will face a combination of Sliabh Luachra and Killarney sides in their 2nd and 3rd group games. The Cup and Shield finals are set for the last Sunday of the month. The club is also looking forward to the Minor County League with the matches in this competition beginning in the next two weeks. The clubs u21 hurlers are in the North Kerry championship with the matches being played on Tuesday evenings. On the camogie front there was a great turn-out for the Back to School Blitz held in Cahersleewith over 4 u8’s and u10’s enjoying the day. Teams from the club were joined by sides from Killarney, Causeway, Cillard, Sliabh Luachra and Abbeydorney. The club thanks the mentors and the referees for making the day possible. Rory Reen and Clom Browne from the club were in action with the Kerry u14’s who played in the Tony Forristal / Sonny Walsh Tournament in Waterford.
There was great success in the Donie Brosnan Tournament in the Fitzgerald Stadium with the u10 boys enjoying a come from behind win over Kilgarvan in the Shield final. The u16’s and u18’s enjoyed their Ball Wall training session with Diarmuid Brennan with the players been given some great drills to help their development and hone their skills. Diarmuid Is the owner of the Dynamic Strength and Conditioning Gym. ST PAT’S NEWS: Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto which was drawn on Monday night. The numbers drawn were 3,6,8 and 11 with the next jackpot being e7,500 and the draw in O’Dwyer’s Bar. The Academy fell foul of the weather having been brought forward to Friday night due to the All Ireland final. The next Academy will be this Sunday starting at 10.30am. The u14 boys were heavily defeated against a very good Na Gaeil side in the St Brendan's League B final last Wednesday. The boys fought all the way to the end as they have done all season. The u14 Girls put in an excellent performance against Listowel Emmets in the Division 5 of the North Kerry League. This competition is played at 12 a side and there were seven of the players on the score sheet. The side will now face Abbeydorney in the Shield Final. With Kerry and Dublin playing out a pulsating draw in the All-Ireland final last Sunday, the last round of the County League matches and the seniors Round 11 County League match against Firies will now be pushed back by 2 weeks, which means that this match will be played the weekend of 21st/22nd of September. The replay has also caused the Garvey’s County Championship Round 1 will now be played after the County League. St Brendan’s, under St Pat’s Seamus Murphy, will welcome East Kerry to Blennerville in roughly three weeks. The senior B team exited the Barrett Cup going out to Knocknagoshel in Round 2 on a 1-13 to 1-10 score line., St Brendan's minor team were defeated by East Kerry in the finals of the Minor Football Championship played last Tuesday evening in Austin Stacks Park on a score line of 3-10 to 0-13. Fergal O'Brien kicked 4 points (2 from play and 2 from frees) but unfortunately it wasn't enough to see St Brendan's over the line. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: While the draw on Sunday was cheered by everyone it did give the Fixtures officer a headache, albeit one they won’t mind having. The deciding games of the County League will now be pushed back. The team have one game left when they take on Kilcummin with a 2pm throw-in. They are just one point behind Rathmore who will be hot favourites to take the

points from their game against Na Gaeil. Kilcummin must not be underestimated though and deserve every respect as reigning All Ireland Intermediate Champions. All support welcome. There was no luck for the boys in the McElligott Cup quarter final. They lost out to Rathmore 2-12 to 0-12 points. The Tralee boys were only a point behind at the break 1-07 to 0-09 but the East Kerry side opened the gap in the second half to win by six. In the Ladies section of the club training continues on the normal nights for the u12’s and u14’a. The u14’ are due to play Austin Stacks tonight, Friday night, in the North Kerry League. The 15’s enjoyed their night reliving their final while the u16 girls played Castlegregory in Round 1 of the North Kerry League in midweek. The senior girls put in a good effort in their game against Mitchels in the North Kerry League. This is the first year the club has a senior ladies team and the whole squad and management are putting in a great effort. In the underage section the u6, u8’s and u10’s welcome Milltown for a series of games starting at 10.45. The U12 boys had a bye last Monday night and are at home
to Keel in the final game of the Central League on Tuesday night in Ballyrickard at 6.45pm. A win here will see us top the league. The U13 boys will take part in the Lee Strand Tournament next weekend, hosted by Austin Stacks in Connolly Park. Games begin this Saturday morning at 10.30am. ON THE GREEN TRALEE GOLF CLUB: In the Tankard Open Singles where 139 played Eoghan O’Donnell was the win on 40 points. The top 7 was completed by Michael Higgins, Max Benner, Gerard O’Sullivan, Mark Sheehy, Michael Quirke and Dick Spring. In the Club Singles Brian O’Leary was the winner from Eoghan O’Donnell, Joseph Roche and Pat O’Donnell. The Tankard Bar and Restaurant Festival Open Singles was also the highlight of the Ladies Section. Ber Walsh took the win from Joan Cantillon and Mary McCarthy from the Muskerry club.
