A little Marketing Magic with Chris Shortt Think we missed the boat here ...read on There is a saying in the marketing world “make it as easy as possible for people to do business with you“ ...Why , usually , because there is always someone out there ready to eat your lunch, in other words , there is competition out there , lots of it ! Last week Richard Curran , the business editor of the Sunday Independent wrote a piece about how he travelled from his home in Inishowen up to Derry City with his family to celebrate his sons 9th birthday in one of his sons favourite places . When Richard went to pay his bill ( around £40 stg ), it was automatically cut in half under the UK’s Hospitality Stimulus Scheme put in place by the British Government . Richard only paid £20 !

Richard says he will be back there again pretty quick ( or somewhere similar)..as this ‘EAt Out to help Out’ Scheme finished at the end of August . Over 84000 restaurants

cafes and bars signed up for this scheme which ran every Monday Tuesday and Wednesday in August .

Essentially the ultimate goal of this scheme was to get and keep the doors open of all these 84000 businesses and to get & keep the huge amount of people who work in this industry, back to work and keep them there, give them security.

Now contrast this with the ‘almost derisory ‘ Stay and Spend’ scheme coming into effect on October 1st here in Ireland .where you must download an App, ( so non smartphone owners go away please !), take receipt photos , send them to Revenue and hope that I get my tax credit sometime in 2021 ! (again ruling out the ‘grey brigade, the retirees who dont pay tax , but who love to ‘stay and spend ‘ ) .and yes , we must remember the limits ..think its up to €625 per person , ...oh yeah , and when does it finish , next April ! (REMEMBER Leo said ‘The July Stimulas package must be radical and far reaching !)

ITS TOO COMPLICATED! For people to engage and want to take part in it , it has to be simple and so attractive to use that ‘people will ‘over engage’ in it ..Even the Hotel Industry commented on how complex it was .Anytime in the past when I have been working with clients trying to launch a new business , rebrand , increase sales or stop sales from declining even

more , I tend to come across a resistance within the business , usually from the financial side , who are averse to taking a chance and will give you all the reasons ‘Why not ‘ as opposed to one reason ‘Why ‘ ..Well the committee responsible for this ‘Stay and Spend ‘ had plenty of seats full with these type of people! ...Oh by the way , British Treasury figures showed that diners used their scheme 64 million times in the first 3 weeks , thats nearly everyone in the UK dining out !! talk about engaging!

Now heres my idea ...keep reading ... most of us have received one of those ‘giftcards ‘ with an amount on it (usually €30 or €40 ) from our insurance companies ...so as Barney the Dinosaur says ‘use your imagination !’ ..

Imagine tomorrow you received 2 giftcards in your letterbox for €500 each , to be used to ‘Stay and Spend ‘ , in our hospitality sector .

One card was for you spending in Kerry and the other card was for you spending outside Kerry .(so ‘Re-Discover Ireland ‘! ..sounds better that ‘StayCation , don’t you think ?)

Now there would be only TWO conditions with these cards , firstly that you can only use it for half the amount of your bill and the rest comes out of your own pocket (so a €200 bill for an overnighter in Valentia will cost you €100 and €100 goes off the card ) and the second condition is that there would be an expiry date on both cards , Short term not long

term so people are constantly thinking of ‘where we gonna eat out ‘ and ‘where we gonna have a night or a few away! lets say Nov 15th ,,So IF YOU DONT USE IT , YOU LOSE IT !

(In marketing terms , its called a ‘Sunset ‘ Clause ...you must act before the sun sets !)

Now would that motivate and encourage you to eat out more or book a few nights away in a place , maybe, you havent stayed before ? Think of the effect it would have on our restaurants cafes bars hotels B&b’s and all the people who work there . Research has shown that the amount of spend someone makes when they are ‘given a voucher’ such as this, increases , if the incentive is higher (I have seen this and implemented such campaigns with many business , including my own )...Look at the reaction to the UK ‘EAt out and Help Out ‘! ....

Theres another acronym ‘KISS’ (Keep It Simple Stupid ) and that’s what we should have done here ...Watch this space !

People Of Kerry, Now’s The Time To ‘Shop Local’ A new campaign is being launched in Kerry this week to encourage people to shop locally and spend locally.

The campaign, which is being spearheaded by Kerry County Council and its local partners and stakeholders, will use local media and social media platforms to promote a ‘Shop in Kerry / An Siopa Áitiúil’ message. The aim is to encourage consumers in the county to support the local economic recovery by spending locally while observing all of the public health advice and restrictions.

The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Patrick Connor-Scarteen said that during a time of crisis, the people of Kerry have always pulled together and supported each other. He is urging people to show their support for local shops and businesses at this time by spending locally, thereby helping the Kerry economy through the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘The entire local economy has been severely impacted by the Friday 18th September 2020

coronavirus pandemic. Shops and businesses across Kerry have, however, shown great resilience by adapting and making it easier in so many ways for customers to avail of their services and buy their products. Delivery services and click-and-collect have become the norm for many retailers.

‘Now it’s our turn as customers and consumers to show our solidarity with those businesses and show our appreciation for how they have adapted and changed in the current challenging environment to continue to supply goods and services.

Everyone has a part to play by shopping locally and spending locally,’ said Cllr Connor-

Scarteen.

Chief Executive of Kerry County Council, Moira Murrell said: ‘Spending locally in our shops and businesses across Kerry means supporting local jobs and maintaining employment in the local economy. Every euro counts when it comes to assisting the economic recovery in our county.

‘Keeping our towns and villages viable and vibrant is a central objective of the shop local message. The COVID-19 restrictions have raised people’s awareness of local businesses and the vital service provided by local shops. We are asking everyone

in Kerry, when it comes to their shopping to think local and shop local,’ she said.

The new campaign emphasises that when shopping locally, everyone should stay safe and adhere strictly to the government and public health guidelines on hand hygiene, cough etiquette, social distancing and the wearing of masks. Kerry County Council continues to support shops and businesses in Kerry in a number of other ways including the administration of the Business Restart Grant, a business support helpline, an online directory of shops and businesses which have reopened and a series of online webinars and training events.

Head and neck cancer awareness day!

I am writing this article to hopefully save a life and create awareness about the relevance of regular dental examinations and their role in the preventation of head and neck cancer. Having worked in a specialist Oral cancer unit and having spent time screening, diagnosing and treating oral cancer patients, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of regular screenings and routine dental visits i.e twice a year.

What is oral cancer?

Oral cancer refers to a cancer which can affect your lips, cheeks, gums, tongue, floor of mouth, hard palate, sinuses,nose , tonsils, neck and larynx.

What does it look like?

Cancer in the mouth is generally a silent disease and in most circumstances is relatively painless until the more advanced stages. It can present in many formats from a non healing ulcer on the lip or tongue , to a red or white patch in the mouth , a bleeding ulcer , or a persistent hard ,lump in the neck or mouth.

What are the symptoms?

These are variable but include loose teeth,thickening of the tongue/cheek, a bleeding non healing ulcer, red or white patch in the mouth, difficulty speaking, chewing/

swallowing, persistent sore throat, hoarseness, weight loss, nose bleeds, numbness of the jaws, tongue or lips.

How common is head and neck cancer in Ireland?

In Ireland there are over 700 cases of head and neck cancer each year. Traditionally, it was associated with older people aged 55 onwards but in recent years has seen an increased prevalence in those in their 20s and 30s. The disease was 6 times more likely to occur in males but in recent years the statics reveal a 2:1 ratio of male to female sufferers. Worringly, cases are predicted to increase in Ireland by 30% in the next 25 years.Most cases in Ireland are diagnosed at a very late stage i.e at either stage 3 or stage 4.

Therefore the outcome is very poor. However , if detected early(normally by a dentist) , the outcome is much more positive with a very good quality of life.The survival rate in Ireland from head and neck cancer is just over 54%. This is due to delay in diagnosis.

What are the risks for head and neck cancer?

• Smoking cigarettes,cigars or marijuna • Increased alcohol use • Increased sun exposure (Lip cancer) • Chewing tobacco, paan

and quid Not attending your dentist regularly even if you don’t have teeth.

Poor oral hygiene Not having a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg.

Human papilloma virus HPV has been linked to cancer of the throat and pharynx(boys and girls in secondary school should be vaccinated against HPV.

Preventation • Regular dental examinations even for denture patients or those without teeth.

• Wear a lip balm from March-October • Avoidance of alcohol and cigarettes.

• Eat lots of fresh fruit and veg • Maintain good oral hygiene • Vaccination against HPV

a very small portion of the tissue for testing , this is called a biopsy. It does not involve removing the entire lesion.

Your dentist may preform the biopsy for you depending on their expertise or refer you to an oral Surgeon . The key message is if something doesn’t feel quite right, get it checked.The earlier the better.

It might just save your life.

There will be a mixture of events available locally to cater to the needs of every member of the community making it easy to #BeActive – even from the comfort of your front room.

Sport Ireland, the national coordinating Body for European Week of Sport in Ireland hope that this year’s event will inspire even more people than previous years and has funded multiple local events run by the Network of Local Sports Partnerships. Kerry’s programme includes kayaking, orienteering and walking related events as a means of exploring the wonders County

Kerry has to offer.

Chairperson of the Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership Jimmy Deenihan said “The KRSP team have designed and developed unique and interesting taster sessions, to cater for all in society. There will be a kayaking event for women, separate orienteering events for men and people with disabilities, and finally, walks catering for families with children aged 6 to 12 years and 12 years plus”.

The National Circus festival of Ireland was making a video piece for Culture night.

Michaela Heyer, Henrik Gard, Ali Stanger, Hannes Jung and Con Horgan.

The video piece called .Fiúntas is a specially commissioned video piece from the National Circus Festival of Ireland and Kerry County Council Arts Office featuring 6 circus artists shot around locations in Tralee, Co Kerry.

The piece is written and directed by Con Horgan, filmed and edited by Maurice Supple with music and soundscape compositions by Con Horgan.

With thanks to Kerry County Council Arts Office, Arts Council of Ireland and Creative Ireland. This video piece will be on www.circusfestival.ie from Friday (today ) and can also be found on Youtube .

Kerry County Council wishes to give notice that under the terms of the Roads Act, 1993, landowners and occupiers of land are obliged to take all reasonable care to ensure that the trees, ditches, hedges and other vegetation growing on their land are not or could not become a danger to people using or working on a public road.Examples of hazards might be dead or dying trees, ditches or hedges interfering with traffic, blocking footpaths, obscuring road signs or obscuring a view of the road ahead.You are required to fell, cut, log, trim or remove such trees, ditches and hedges. Adequate signposting should be provided and the Council and Gardaí notified before works commence.

Hedgecutting operations, as far as possible, should only be undertaken outside the critical nesting period of 1st March to 31st August.

JAPANESE KNOTWEED When cutting your hedges this year, please be aware of the invasive species Japanese Knotweed (JK) Fallopia Japonica.

If you do find Japanese Knotweed on your property, the most important thing that you can do is prevent any further spread of the species.

Do not strim, cut, flair or chip the plants. Tiny fragments can regenerate new plants and cause the Japanese Knotweed to spread.

It is also advised not to dig, move or dump soil which may contain plant material as this will contribute to its spread.

Report it! The location and extent of the infestation should be reported to your local Municipal District Office/Area Office.

DUTY TO FACILITATE DRAINAGE OF WATER FROM PUBLIC ROADS Landowners/occupiers are also reminded of their duty under the Roads Act, 1993 to facilitate the drainage of water from public roads and also to prevent water, soil or other matter from flowing or falling onto public roads especially at entrances to fields and farmyards.

Beyond Imagination is set to light up windows on the Mall for one week only!

Beyond Imagination is a street side gallery of shop windows opening at 5pm on Friday 18th September next. Artist Véronique Gerber and designer Donnchadha O’Connor have been working with local youth groups to produce three unique window displays like no other on the Mall in Tralee for Culture Night this year. The street side gallery will run for seven days until Friday 25th September.

Kerry Local Creative Youth Partnership at Kerry ETB in association with Kerry County Council and shop owners including Alan O’Sullivan, The Mall Tavern, Brendan Culloty of Culloty’s Music Store, Bernard Cassidy of An Teach Beag public house, and Teresa Tangney of Tangney

Opticians have made available their windows as street side galleries under a unique intervention for Culture Night.

Participating organisations in the project include the Meitheal early intervention practice model led by TUSLA at Shankill Family Resource Centre, and an afterschool group at St. Brigid’s Family Resource Centre at Hawley Park Tralee. Participants also include a group of young adults led by Inspired, the community organisation developing education, employment and personal development skills for people with intellectual disabilities.

“We have explored many concepts in our workshops including design, construction, art, sound and lighting and it has been such fun, said Véronique Gerber, artist and facilitator who worked with designer-maker Donnchadha O’Connor on the project.

Donnchadha had this to say, “What you will see on the night are One of the young creatives with a cut-out guitar who will be taking part in the Beyond windows into Imagination Street window project launching the wonderful on Culture Night on Sept 18th. Beetroot ...now theres a healthy vegetable!!! These are a no-brainer for healthy meals since they add a great taste to every dish...Even when they’re simply roasted with a little oil., topping red and golden beet slices with a lively mixed-herb dressing, pistachios and celery leaves...

ROASTED BEETS WITH PISTACHIOS, HERBS AND ORANGE Serves 8 INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

3 pounds medium beets, preferably a mix of colors One 3-inch cinnamon stick, broken into 3 or 4 pieces 2 bay leaves 1 cup water 1 large shallot, minced 1/4 cup white wine vinegar Salt Finely grated zest of 1 orange 1/4 tablespoon chopped tarragon 1/4 tablespoon chopped flat-leaf parsley 1/4 tablespoon chopped chives 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1/2 tablespoon chopped roasted pistachios 1/4 tablespoon celery leaves,

METHOD Preheat the oven to 165°. Arrange the beets in a roasting pan and add the cinnamon, bay leaves and water. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 1 hour, until the beets are tender; transfer to a large rimmed baking sheet and let cool; discard the liquid and spices.

Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix the shallot, vinegar and a large pinch of salt. Let stand for 10 minutes. Stir in the orange zest, tarragon, parsley, chives and oil; season with salt Peel and trim the beets and slice them 1/4 inch thick. Arrange the beet slices in overlapping rows on a platter. Stir the herb dressing and spoon it over the beets. Scatter the pistachios and celery leaves on top and serve.

HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS I hope you’re having an amazing week!

This week I’m talking all things makeup tools!

When I started doing my own makeup I literally used my fingers to apply foundation and eyeshadow for a good while, I couldn’t even imagine doing that now. Insane. When it comes to a perfect makeup application you need three things, 1) a good base 2) good tools 3) good products. Today I’m going to talk all about my favourite makeup tools and brands that I recommend. The brushes/tools that I mention are my 100% ride or die ones, ones that I ALWAYS use and completely recommend.

THE BEAUTY BLENDER

If you haven’t applied your makeup with a beauty blender, you are seriously missing out. SERIOUSLY. And I’m not talking about the brands that made dupes of the beauty blender, I’m talking about The Original Beauty Blender! It gives your makeup an amazing flawless finish, it can be used for foundation, concealer, cream contour, or even to blend powder bronzer. Makeup By Mario also used Beauty blenders throughout his entire Masterclass, he swears by them! All you have to do is squeeze it in water to dampen it and then bounce it on your face to apply whichever product. You can get it on BeautyBay for €20 with free delivery.

Blank Canvas E20 Blending Brush I’m an OG Blank Canvas Cosmetics fan, I have been talking about and using their products since the beginning.

Literally. I absolutely love this brush for blending, it’s insaaaaaaane.

Again, it is used to apply foundation to the face, it is very dense which means it gives great coverage and also doesn’t store lots of product.

So if you’re a bit apprehensive about the beauty blender and are looking for an amazing foundation brush, this is for you! I actually have like 7 of them, some for my own personal use and one for my makeup kit for clients.

I use this, and only this, for my bronzer absolutely errrrryday, or every time I wear makeup at least. I don’t have many EcoTools brushes, but I must get more because they are such great quality.

Like I’ve had that bronzer brush at least 2 years now and it’s still perfect. EcoTools is also Vegan friendly, which is awesome.

So those are my absolute favourite brushes/tools. I have multiples of all of them and simply couldn’t do my makeup without them.

As for brands, if you go for EcoTools, Blank Canvas Cosmetics, Morphe or Real Techniques you’ll be safe. You don’t have to get the most expensive brushes out there for them to be good, all of the brands and brushes I mentioned are mostly under €20.

Also, it is VERY VERY VERY important to take care of your brushes and clean them REGULARLY!!!! Especially foundation brushes, you wouldn’t even believe the bacteria they collect. To clean them just use luke warm(not hot) water and any form of shampoo, baby shampoo is good, I recommend a scented version so your brushes smell fab. If you use hot water it will melt the glue on your brush and the hairs will fall out.

Hello everyone!

Hope you’re having a great week.

I know the mornings are a little dark now but it’s still great to get up early and make the most of the day!

This week I’m talking all about how to stay motivated & the benefits of morning exercise! (Or just exercising before you start your day) I myself am not the best morning person, at all. But I’ve been researching the benefits of morning exercise and I must say, it makes me think twice about pressing that snooze button! · When you exercise early in the morning, it “jump starts” your metabolism and keeps it elevated for hours. That means you’re burning more calories all day long just because you exercised in the morning! · Exercising first thing in the morning is the only way to assure something else won’t get in the way of your workout. If you are hit with a really busy day your exercise could be put on the back burner!

· Exercising in the morning energizes you for the day, not to mention that gratifying feeling of virtue you have knowing you’ve done something disciplined and good for you. · More than 90% of those who exercise consistently have a morning fitness routine.

If you want to exercise on a regular basis, the odds are in your favour if you squeeze your workout into the a.m. · Studies have shown that women and men who wake up early for regular exercise sleep better than those who routinely exercise in the evening. Since exercise stimulates your body, when you exercise at night, it becomes more difficult to fully relax and drift into peaceful sleep. · By knocking out your exercise first thing, you will approach your food differently throughout the day. You will be proud of yourself for getting up and burning some calories, so why sabotage it with an unhealthy lunch? Instead, you will want to continue your positive choices by eating foods that make you feel fresh and energized.

HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED! Think Positive: I am a huge believer in the power of positive thinking! Instead of saying ‘I hope I don’t gain weight’ say ‘I will lose weight’. Positive thoughts can turn into positive things.

Make Goals: To help stay on track I find it’s best to make goals, both longterm(monthly) and shortterm(daily/weekly). If you don’t make goals it is very easy to fall off the wagon!

Visualise: Visualise yourself when you are at your goal weight/ fitness level. Buy a dress the size you strive to be and hang it in your room, print out motivational quotes and images and stick them up! Do whatever works best for you.

Reward Yourself: For every goal you reach it’s good to have a corresponding reward. For example, a new pair of shoes, a spa trip, new workout gear, a night out with the girls.

Change up your workout: If you stick to the same workout routine everyday you could get bored and your workouts could become less effective.

It’s good to change up your workout routine every week or so to keep both your body and mind motivated.

As part of the July Stimulus Programme, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage announced over €40 million for the refurbishment of voids, the largest single amount ever announced under the voids programme.

A RICH GUY BUYS A NEW CAR

A rich guy buys a new car , the newest Ferrari model with the maximum speed of 400 km per hour, very proud of this new car he decides to take it for a spin.He drives around for a while until he runs out of gas, he pulls over to the nearest gas station and fills up the car and then goes back in to the car but before he could close the door and go on his way a short nerd with glasses , white shirt , pen protector , bike clips , riding a bicycle comes to his car and asks the rick guy: -Hey nice car , can I have a ride?

The rich guys closes the door in his face and leaves.

He drives with 100 km per hour and suddenly after a couple of minutes the nerd goes blazing in front of him, overtaking the Ferrari. The rich guy pissed accelerates and goes to 200 km and overtakes the nerd , after a couple of minutes again the nerd overtakes the Ferrari.

The rich guy accelerates again, he goes to 300 km , leaving the nerd behind , would you know after a couple of minutes the nerd overtakes the Ferrari again.

That is it , the rich guy accelerates to the maximum speed of 400 km, overtakes the nerd laughing , no way he can catch up to him now. But after a couple of minutes the nerd is blazing in front of the Ferrari like is nothing stopping him.

The rich guy browned off , pulls over, annoyed that even a bicycle can outrun him. After a couple of moments the nerd comes to the windows , out of breath .

-Huh huh huh , g-g-g-glad you st-t-toped I had my bicycle clips caught in the car door.

Toyota has revised its flagship Land Cruiser 4x4, adding a new 2.8-litre diesel engine and some extra safety equipment. The passenger model is available to order now, with prices starting from £42,345(UK) for the entry-level three-door variant, climbing to £57,490 for the range-topping seven-seat Invincible version.

First deliveries are expected to arrive in October. Toyota will also launch an updated version of the Land Cruiser Commercial later in the autumn, which will sport the same revisions as the passenger car.Like the outgoing model, the updated Toyota Land Cruiser is powered by a turbocharged 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, but its output has risen from 174bhp and 450Nm of torque to 201bhp and 500Nm. Toyota says the extra power has dropped the 0–62mph time to 9.3 seconds – a 2.8 second improvement over the old car.Every version of the updated Toyota Land Cruiser comes with a mechanical four-wheel drive system, a low-ratio gearbox and a lockable centre differential as standard. The Commercial variant can be specced with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the passenger model is only available with a sixspeed automatic.Toyota has simplified the Land Cruiser’s trim-level structure, cutting the 4x4’s line-up to just two models.The entry-level Active variant is available as either a short or long-wheelbase model, and comes as standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, heated and electrically operated door mirrors, roof rails, cruise control, air conditioning and keyless entry and start.Inside, there’s an improved version of the old car’s eight-inch infotainment system.Upgrades over the entry-level model include 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, rear privacy glass and illuminated side steps. Inside, buyers get a pair of electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, heated rear seats and a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system.As part of the model update, Toyota has also launched an optional Black Pack for the Land Cruiser Invincible, which swaps the 4x4’s radiator grille, door mirrors, rear light surrounds, side mouldings and rear exterior trim for gloss black replacements. Clear rear light lenses are also included in the package, while black alloy wheels can be specced as a further optional extra.

Finally, for the interior, the upgrade adds some black trim for the centre console and transmission tunnel.

NEW MERCEDES S-CLASS AIMS TO REDEFINE THE LUXURY SALOON

This is the all-new Mercedes S-Class - the seventh-generation of the Mercedes’ flagship model and answer to the new Audi A8, the updated BMW 7 Series and upmarket Bentley Flying Spur.

Mercedes makes a simple but bold claim about the latest S-Class, that it is ‘‘the best car in the world’. It goes on sale in Europe in December, with market launches in the USA and China following in February 2021. Mercedes has confirmed two versions for the European market - standard wheelbase and a long wheelbase. In both cases, the benefits of the growth spurt are found in the back, with both cars fielding more legroom and headroom than before, as well as bigger boots, both up by 20 litres to 550 litres. Mercedes says the new S-Class is the most opulent expression of the brand’s latest saloon design language; the grille is larger and more upright than before, and is now flanked by new Multibeam LED headlights, which are now available with projector beams as part of the new Digital Light system. .This time round there will be no Coupe or Cabriolet versions, with the S-Class to be kept strictly in limousine form factor. Alongside the standard and long-wheelbase versions of the car, an extended wheelbase Maybach badged variant will appear later, . The most radical design changes are reserved for the cabin, where the S-Class features an all-new interior architecture centred around a new, secondgeneration MBUX infotainment system. A new digital instrument panel with real 3D effect graphics sits in front of the driver, alongside a new-look steering wheel with touch-sensitive functions. Behind it all is a new head-up-display capable of augmented reality technology.Up to three displays can be fitted in the back of the S-Class. Two 11.6-inch touchscreens fixed to the seat backs of the front seats allow rear occupants to surf the web, check emails or watch television, while there’s also a removable tablet, stored in the folding centre arm rest . The company says that from the second half of 2021, the new S-Class will be capable of ‘hands-off’ autonomous driving on motorways and in traffic jams. The driver will be able to check emails or browse the web, and the vehicle - in certain conditions - will be capable of responding to all traffic and any potential collisions. Remote parking assist means the car can park itself or be summoned from a short distance via smartphone. As for engines, Mercedes has confirmed a launch line-up consisting entirely of 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six options, with two 48-volt assisted petrols and three diesels to choose from. All cars use the same nine-speed automatic gearbox and are electronically limited to a top speed of 155mph. The interior tech dazzles; the seats feature 17 motors for adjustment and massage, while the MBUX infotainment sets new standards.

SMALL NUMBER OF SPECTATORS BACK: As this article is being written the Government is making its announcement on its plan’s to live with Covid for the coming months. It does seem from the early announcements that there are as many questions as answers but from Tuesday night a small number of supporters are being allowed back into watch games.

For games in the Austin Stacks Park 200 will be allowed in – now this time is says spectators so I am presuming that this does not included teams, management, officials, stewards and emergency personnel. It made no sense to have them included in the first place. For grounds below the 5000 capacity then 100 will be allowed in which is still a small number but at least for underage games etc it will be ok. Hopefully now that the living with Covid plan has been published these numbers can be increased as the month’s progress and the numbers stay low.

For the bigger grounds like Croke Park, the Aviva, Thomond Park and some of the bigger GAA grounds around the country the numbers are still being worked on. Considering the All Ireland finals, the rugby Six Nations and Republic of Ireland games are all set to take place in Dublin from October.

If the numbers for the bigger stadia stays between 5,000 and 10,000 is there and argument for bringing these away from Dublin?

BLACK AND AMBER BOUNCEBACKABILITY VERY IMPRESSIVE: Sport is as much about how you deal with defeat as it is about how you enjoy your wins. And that new term of bouncebackability certainly found a home with the Stacks last Sunday.

They are now the in terms of competitions the top club in Kerry. They went into the weekend’s final having never lost a club final and for the fifth time they came out with that record intact.

They were pushed all the way by Kenmare Shamrocks with the Tralee side winning by three points 1-17 to 1-14 after extra time to make it back to back Club Championships.

When looking back at this season’s unique Garvey’s Senior County Championship the Stacks were involved in two of the most exciting three games.

Their game against Dr Crokes was a cracker and on that occasion it was the Killarney Black and Amber that came out in front – just and the Tralee Black and Amber could have been forgiven for dropping their heads. In a change due to the times there was no second chance and no one will know how far the Stacks would have gone with the improvement that that game could have brought them on. And then we know that the Crokes lost out in the dying minutes in their semi-final to leave two Divisional sides in the big final East Kerry and Mid Kerry.

But credit to the Crokes and their management they took the loss on Friday 18th September 2020

board and now have their reward as they end the year as club champions.

This game was as tight on the field as it was on the scoreboard and they sides were level 0-05 to 0-05 at the break.

Kenmare took control in the second half and with time running out the Stacks were 5 points down. Conor Jordan made a big impact coming off the bench to hit two point but Kenmare then hit one to leave three points between the sides with the game entering the 4th minute of extra time.

But as has so often been the case the Stacks had time for one last effort and Fiachna Mangan knew what he was doing by putting a high ball into the square. Kieran Donaghy did what he has done for years and still does – he won the ball and found Sean Quilter who tied the game up with a goal to leave it at 1-09 to 1-09.

Again there was nothing in the game after the first period with Kenmare 1 point ahead 1-12 to 1-11. But the strength in depth of the Stacks proved to be the winning of the game with 5 players coming off the bench to score 5 points in the second period of extra time to wrap up the win.

Jack O’Shea was the well deserving Man of the Match recipient as the Street of Champions can – socially distant – celebrate when the time is right the 2020 title to add to those won in 1979, 2003, 2016 and 2019.

FAKE VIDEO: It was disappointing that the club Chairman had to come out and clarify that video that was circulating on-line supposedly showing the Stacks celebrating this win in their clubhouse turned out to be from last year. The club has been, like all sporting outlets, been very diligent and the Stacks clubhouse and bar is still closed.

RODDY O’DONNELL TOWN CHAMPIONSHIP: Staying with football in Tralee and the Roddy O’Donnell Senior Town Championship is at the semi-final level.

Austin Stacks will be back in action this Saturday at 5pm when they take on Ballymac while John Mitchels take on Kerin’s O’Rahillys in the other semi-final.

CLUB NOTES AND STAYING WITH THE STACKS: The B’s ended their season with a 2 point defeat away to Gneeveguilla 0-07 to 0-09. The C team are still in the Junior Championship and need to win their last game to see how the competition progresses.

The club’s Lotto of e13,400 was not won from the numbers drawn 12, 26,27 and 32.

Underage: The weekly action for the younger ages continues with the John Galvin and Bracker Regan Cups continuing. The u12’s were busy with the 3 sides in action in the County League. The Division 2 Team 1 side defeated Listowel as did the Amber team while Team Black saw off Na Gaeil.

The u14’s and u16’s were also in County League action.

PARNELLS NEWS: Starting with the Camogie news and the u8’s welcomed Cillard and will face Causeway next. The u8’s also played Cillard while the u11’s played an invitational match in Cordal against Sliabh Luachra. The u12’s were in county semi-final action in midweek with Killarney and the AbbeyKilLix combination the opposition for both the clubs teams. The u14’s will play Ballyduff in their County semi-final while the u16’s will play St Brendan’s in the Plate Final.

The big one for the club comes this Sunday when they compete in their 1st Intermediate Championship Final with Dr Crokes the opposition in Austin Stacks Park – now thankfully with some fans allowed in.

The Tralee Advertiser wished the squad and management team of Brian Shanahan, Mike Ryall and Ollie Broughton all the best for their big day.

HURLING NEWS: Best of luck to Kilmoyley and Causeway who will contest the Garvey’s Super Valu Senior Hurling Championship final which is on a 3.30pm this Sunday September 20th. It should be a tight encounter with this title one of the most hard fought for every year.

Well done to Ballyduff who bridged a 17 year gap when they were crowned Kerry Minor Champions as they defeated Ballyheigue 1-13 to 1-09.

NA GAEIL NEWS The club is looking forward to Saturday evenings Intermediate Championship quarter final with An Ghaeltacht the opposition in Austin Stack Park at 7pm.

In the underage section the u14’s were big winners over Currow, the u12’s Green and Gold sides went down very narrowly to Ballymac while the u10’s travelled to Currow while the same opposition visited the u8’s.

The clubhouse is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6.30 to 10.30pm with booking essential and a food order of e9 must be purchased.

ST PAT’S NEWS: The club Lotto is back and there was no winner of the jackpot of e2200 from the numbers drawn 3,24,26 and 28. The draw now takes place in the clubhouse on Sunday nights.

There was a great turn-out for the underage Academies and all will be back on the pitch this Sunday. The u10’s enjoyed their games against Listry.

The u12’s had a good win over Currow while the u14’s lost out to Skellig Rangers. The u16’s went down away to a strong St Senan’s side.

In the County Junior Football League the Senior B’s will play Keel this Friday evening at 6.30pm in Keel.

KDL SEASON COMES TO AN END BUT LOI CONTINUES: The competitive local soccer scene came to an end on Thursday night at Mounthawk Park with an unusual Celcius Cup final paring of Killarney Celtic A v B. in one way it’s a fitting finale as Killarney Celtic have been dominant this season and between the seniors and Youths they will have 7 trophies in the cabinet.

On the National League front the 15’s were the big winners at the weekend defeating Cobh Rambers 2-1 away to move 4 points clear of Limerick in the battle for second spot in the Group with both sides meeting in the last game.

The 13’s went down in a very tight game with Kildare 1-0 while the 17’s lost 2-0 to Cobh Ramblers and the 19’s suffered the same fate two weeks in a row conceding a late goal to the same player in a 1-0 loss. All four sides are in action again this weekend with the 15’s at home on Saturday at 2pm.

ON THE GREEN: ELLA SECOND IN THE NATIONALS: The great Pitch and Putt season for Ella Moynihan continued at the weekend when she took the runners-up spot at the National Girls Championship. She added this to the runners-up medal she won in the National Girls Matchplay last month. Killarney’s Fintan Martin was the runner up in the Boys section and he was the best of the Kerry player in action.

TRALEE GOLF CLUB: At the Tralee Golf Club the winner of the September Men’s Club Fourball were Kieran Ruttledge and Tim Scannell.

Second were Tony Johnson and John M O’Sullivan with Kieran Dinan senior and junior in third. The Reen’s John and Denis were 4th.

The most recent Men’s 9 hole competition was won by John Collins with Denis Reen and Mike Coole making up the top 3. In the Ladies Mounthawk Trophy Veronique Davern was the winner from Eileen Corcoran and Kathleen Houlihan. The Senior Ladies competition was won by Cora O’Mahony, Trish Casey and Cathy Lyons.
