LEGAL CORNER
The More you tell the more you sell!!!
Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read
LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Sarah is wondering about the history of the Courthouse in Ashe Street due to its special architecture and the cannons outside. Tralee Court house was designed by an architect called William Vitruvius Morrison. Morrison`s name is inscribed on the architrave at the southern end of the portico. It was built in 1835. Imposing, grand, austere, stony grey the building is set above the street and accessed by a large flight of steps. It was built of native limestone. It is apparently an excellent example of Greek Revival Architecture found in many of the courthouses of the period. This was a trend that harkened back to ancient Greek design in particular of their temples. The courthouse has a fine portico and pediment. The columns are Ionic in design. Originally it had two semi-circular courtrooms at each side of the building and offices and judges chambers. The council offices used to be in the building and these were later commuted to court offices. The building fell into disrepair and underwent a renovation in the 1980’s which brought one of the courtrooms to the back now the Circuit Court and a garden was created at the side allowing light to stream into the Atrium. The Octogonal District Court is on the left as one enters the hall. The façade of the building remained the same but was cleaned at the time. Outside there are the monuments of two cannons
commemorating those Kerry men who died in the Crimean war (1854-1856) and the Indian Rebellion (1857). At one stage there was an attempt to destroy these two cannons with explosives and in fact the explosives – 5 sticks of gelignite, a detonator and a fusewire were hidden in the barrel and lay there undisturbed for 20 years until after a tip-off the Army bomb disposal team and the Gardai removed them in August 2011. Plans have been afoot to improve accessibility at the Courthouse but this is in abeyance at the moment pending a final plan on the Courthouse and its location. Modern Courthouses have to be to a high standard including consultation rooms, rooms for lawyers, accessibility with lifts and IT facilities. Cork courthouse ( 1828 ) built in a neo classical style with Corinthian columns was renovated in 2003 at a cost of over €25 million but the end result is a beautiful building steeped in history with the preservation of many of the fine architectural features of the building including its glass dome in the roof. Similarly Ennis Courthouse ( 1850) has received similar reconstruction in 2004. It has the Ionic Columns and a cannon commemorating the Crimean War as well. Lawquip: People need to stop putting flyers on my car. No, I don’t want to see a band called “Parking Violation” at the “Courthouse” next Thursday.

Wine review with Carry Out, Tralee & Ardfert
Barefoot Merlot
'While it's sometimes fun to thoughtfully ponder wine selections and show off your knowledge of grapes and vintages, other times you want to just grab a bottle of wine you know and love, like Barefoot Merlot Wine. One of the least pretentious labels available, this wine is consistent in taste and price'. Taste and Nose The label promises flavors of chocolate, boysenberry, anise, licorice and a hint of tannins. Many testers found the Merlot to have a predominance of berry tastes, with shades of floral or oak and minimal tannins. The nose, however, was generally reviewed as having subtle hints of chocolate and pepper mixed with blackberry aromas. Most Barefoot Merlot drinkers praised its silky feel in the mouth and were pleased with the clean, crisp fruity finish of the win. Great served with beef, poultry, pasta with tomato sauces, cheese and dessert. * You will find it in Carry Out in Tralee ( Oakpark& Horans) and in Ardfert

After Hours Networking in Maddens with KBN! Dedicated to helping women play a bigger, better and more fulfilling role in their businesses and in society, KBN held another of their special After Hours Networking Nights in Maddens Tralee on Thursday 26th of September. Guest enjoyed refreshments and delicious post-work eats in the perfect setting to facilitate genuine connections and inspiring conversations. KBN don’t do your normal networking, saying goodbye to awkward small talk and hello to a different kind of networking. They would rather ask “what are you passionate about?” instead of “what do you do for work?”. Whether you’re an employee, an entrepreneur, an executive or ex-corporate their ‘After Hours’ Networking evenings provide Kerry women with an
invaluable platform for forming new relationships, connections and contacts. It’s about peer support from and partnership with women on the same journey as you. The Network’s aim is to help redress society’s imbalance by ‘changing the conversation’. “The Network’s events, workshops, networking and masterclasses focus on celebrating and growing the achievement of women – socially, politically and culturally. By hearing the authentic experiences of women who are forging change, in ways big and small, our members are inspired and motivated. It’s about connecting, supporting each other, and working together to build a bolder future,” says Chairperson Elin Sorensen. “My first After Hours with Kerry Business Women’s Network. What a lovely place
to be, looking forward to the next one!” Reelika Olo – Reel Design, Castleisland “Was great to meet everyone this evening, thanks for putting on such a relaxed networking event!” Jasmin Stallard – New Wave Adventure Therapy “Thanks for such a great
night!” Irene Nash – The Willow Circle The Next After Hours Networking night will be held in Killarney in November, date tbc
Tim scoops one of Four IMRO Awards for Radio Kerry There were four awards for Radio Kerry at last Friday night’s 2019 IMRO National Radio Awards. The Students of the Kerry College Monavalley Campus Radio Broadcasting and Digital Journalism Course in association with Radio Kerry were awarded Gold in the Short Feature Category and Bronze in the Digital and Social Innovation category. The Radio Kerry newsroom won Silver for their coverage of the misread scans at University Hospital Kerry and the implications it had for patients. There was also success for Tim Moynihan, presenter of Terrace Talk, who received the Silver Award in the Sports Broadcaster of the Year – Local/Regional Category. The Kerry College Monavalley Campus Radio Broadcasting and Digital Journalism Course in association with Radio Kerry students have enjoyed plenty of success at the National Radio Awards since the course was established
Friday 11th October 2019
in 2005. The latest awards, under the stewardship of Training Centre manager Eoghain Fitzgerald, are for the Cluas Chiarrai short feature series. The idea came from Dara O Cinnéide and Barry O' Donnell, two visually impaired students on the course. The students posed the questions “if you can’t see the beauty of Kerry, what are your sounds of Kerry?” to Radio Kerry listeners. The uniqueness of this series is that the sounds were captured in 3D. To get the best sound experience headphones were essential for listening. They spoke to journalist Breda Joy about the sounds of Killarney, Aidan O' Mahony on what a footballer hears, the sounds of sheep farming, and Ballyheigue Search and Rescue. It is worthy of note that prior to this year none of these students involved had ever worked in radio. The next traineeship starts in Tralee this November 18th. Interviews will be held 5/6 November. Anyone wishing
to apply for this practical Radio Skills course can check out www.kerrycollege.ie or email Radio Kerry's Training manager Eoghain Fitzgerald efitzgerald@radiokerry.ie Fiona Stack, Radio Kerry’s General Manager, said that the station is very proud of this year’s awards. She congratulated and thanked all staff involved in putting the submissions together. These recent awards bring the total to 58 National Radio Awards including 16 gold, 16 silver and 26 bronze awards. The IMRO National Radio Awards invite radio stations annually to submit entries that they feel

Tralee Says Goodbye to her Famous Son We ran this article a few months ago , amd as DJ's final Tralee Concert is only a few weeks away, we think it is fitting to remind the people of Tralee , Kerry and beyond, once more , of the 2 great nights that are happening shortly The town of Tralee will be out en-masse in a few weeks to bid farewell to her singing son D.J. Curtin when he returns for two nights on November 1st and 2nd..The celebrated entertainer has been performing with Brendan Bowyer for 40 years this year in Las Vegas, first emigrating there in 1979 being offered a salary which he couldn't refuse to join The Royal Irish Showband. And royally they were treated, with their image atop taxi cabs on the famed strip, they played 6 nights a week at the Barbary Coast Casino, and "everything was complimentary to us " said DJ in a phone call with Tralee Advertiser this week. "Any shows we wanted to see, dinner, someone made a call and the tickets were left at the box. We got to meet all the top stars." When we asked him why now for announcing these final shows? He answered, "it's Mark's (Mark Leen ) idea really. He came up with it, putting the show back into The Brandon which I'm very happy about because Tralee is my home town. Mark is a fantastic manager, I have been with him now since 2003 and he has had me play all over the country.
We did The Showband tour together with Dickie Rock and The Swarbriggs and The Conquerors with him doing his Elvis. I don't know why he gave that up, he was very good at it and I know he was even offered work here in Las Vegas at one stage by a promoter. When Mark gave up the Elvis in 2013 I haven't been back as much, and then last year he came to my house here in Vegas and we sat down and as I was sipping a beer he suddenly spelled out this vision he had in front of me, The Final Curtin he called it. I wasn't going to go back anymore, the journey is very long, but he persisted. We spoke to Mark Leen about the concert and he told us: "A few things have become very important to me, first of all D.J. will get the very best, the best sound and lighting, a follow spotlight and brass on stage.Next, the speakers will be placed way over to the corners of the room, I don't want it too loud near the VIP seats "said Mark. "All seats are numbered. Next will be adequate security. Doors at 7 and the shows will start at 8. I will go on until 8:45, then The Conquerors will come on until 9:15 and D.J. Curtin will
come out in his white suit until 11. There will be a tribute paid to D.J.'S old band The Kerry Blues, and Manus Leane will dance the crowd till late. As for D.J., he will open up with his hit "Will They Remember Me? and include many of songs from his albums, My Elusive Dreams, Almost Persuaded and of course the highlight will be his unequalled Noreen Bawn. The show will finish at 11 for patrons wanting to leave early, but the disco will run till the early hours for those who wish to stay late, Iknow his audience and I have thought this out "said Mark. "When D.J. told me he wasn't returning again, I knew the people of Tralee wouldnt have that, D.J.'s home is in Las Vegas, his brother Henry "Tombstone" is buried there. He has children and grandchildren there. So this is it. Less than 3% of Tralee will be lucky enough to witness this live. Unfortunately seats are limited at these shows, tables of ten are all numbered, and there will be no overcrowding. Tickets are €25 for a side aisle seat which is like a theatre seat. €35 will get you a table seat with the white cloth and the you can get up on the dance floor, there will be 2
bars open. €45 euro for the VIP seats which are roped off and are the best views guaranteed. Some of the €35 seats will go out to the front door of the Conference centre. Tickets are only available from one place said Mark, from Me on 086-1935277 or find me on Facebook. Saturday is nearly sold out at this stage and we have some availability for Friday night. Budget 2020 A Cautious Step Forward
Overview Finance Minister Paschal Donohoeʼs Budget was “developed in the shadow of Brexitʼ and the continuing need to address substantial overruns in the health budget. As predicted by the minister the Budget had ‘absolutely no surprisesʼ and provided little to inspire the imagination. He described Brexit as the “most pressing and immediate risk to our economy”. Beauty
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I hope you’re having an amazing week!
Skincare is literally one of my favourite things, whether you’re looking for yourself or to buy a gift for someone, this list will help! So I’m here this week to help you pick some skincare that hopefully will suit anyone.
SERUMS:
EYE CREAM:
Serum’s are a great gift to get someone as everyone can use them, dry skin, oily skin, older skin, younger skin - serums are the best! The three serums I have used and love are…
I feel like eye creams are a great gift to buy as I find people are slow to splurge on them for themselves. I feel like eye creams are often overlooked but they’re very important - for all ages!
Lancome Genifique Serum -
Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment -
One of my most used serums and great for any age or skin type. This serum only needs to be used in the morning and works on the skin for 24 hours. It also comes in great value gift sets at this time of the year.
This is amazing to moisturise the eye area. It makes the eye are so soft and hydrated! It’s also used and love by Kylie Jenner soooo I mean can you go wrong? Very well priced at 26 euro.
Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream -
Got dark circles or fine lines? This cream is for you!(or the person you’re buying it for, but treat yourself… I won’t judge) I love this cream. Not many people realise Benefit do skincare, but they do… and it’s great!
Clarins Double Serum -
Another great one, more for a slightly more mature skin. It’s definitely an anti-aging serum. It can be used for younger skin also and is perfect for even the most sensitive skin.
Lancome Genifique Eye Pearl Advanced -
Farsali Unicorn Essence Serum -
A perfect serum for someone in their teens/ twenties or someone who loves makeup! I’m obsessed with this serum and it smells amazing! Available on Farsali.com or Cultbeauty. co.uk for 55 euro.
Friday 11th October 2019
More of an eye serum than a cream but still… this stuff is amazing, especially if you suffer with puffiness around the eyes. The applicator for this alone is enough reason to get this, it feels amazing. This is a bit more high end at 55 euro.

WEIGHT TRAINING Hello my strong strong friends! I hope you're all having a fantastic week!
This week, as we’re mid autumn winter I’ve been really focused on the gym, working hard and putting my all into it.
This week I'm going to talk about my current glute & hamstring workout, one of my current favourites & you really feel the burn! I always start off my gym sessions with cardio, I know it's supposed to be better to do weights first but it's just the way I like doing things. So I start off with about 30 mins mixture of uphill walking/jogging and sprints or the stairmaster. I love working up a good sweat. Then it's onto weights… Obviously the amount of weight each person can handle per exercise is different, so apply that to yourself. Sumo Romanian Deadlift 4 sets 12 reps - 50kg weight Romanian deadlifts 3 sets 12 reps 50 kg weight
Also for my guys & gals who are looking to get whey protein, I highly recommend the Myprotein Salted Caramel, Chocolate Brownie or Vanilla flavour! So yummy with almond milk and frozen spinach! I have a discount code for

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2019
Soup... but with a twist!
Butternut squash and apple come into season together and go so so well together, I love the autumnal flavours, there is so much depth to them .What better way to explore these flavours than with a bowl of piping hot soup! Here is a great recipe for your library .
BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP WITH APPLE AND SMOKED CHEDDAR Serves 4 INGREDIENTS • • • •
• •
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced 3/4 cup apple cider One 1 3/4-pound butternut squashpeeled, seeded and cut into 1-inch dice (5 1/4 cups) 4 1/2 cups chicken stock 1/2 cup heavy cream
• • • •
•
Salt and freshly ground pepper 2 tablespoons butter 1 apple, cut into 1/2-inch dice 1/3 cup coarsely shredded smoked cheddar cheese (2 ounces) One-inch pieces of chives or thinly sliced sage leaves, for garnish
METHOD In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil. Add the onion and cook over moderately high heat, stirring occasionally, until golden, about 8 minutes. Add the apple cider and cook until syrupy, about 3 minutes. Add the butternut squash and chicken stock and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer until the squash is very tender, about 40 minutes. In a blender, puree the soup in batches. Return the soup to the saucepan and stir in the cream. Season with salt and pepper and keep warm. Heat a medium pan. Add the butter and diced apple and cook over high heat until the apple is tender and golden around the edges, about 2 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Ladle the soup into warmed bowls; garnish with the smoked cheddar, sautéed apples and chives; serve

IT’S ONLY A JOKE A VENTRILOQUIST WAS DOING HIS GIG AT A NIGHTCLUB...
A blonde stands up and begins to protest. She says,"Hey knock it off with the dumb blonde jokes. We're not all that stupid I'll have you know. What makes you think you can stereotype women that way? It's guys like you who keep women like me from being respected at work,in the community, and from reaching our full potential as a person." Embarrassed the ventriloquist tries to apologize but the blond interrupts yelling,"You stay out of this mister,I'm talking to that little creep on your knee."
I GOT AN EMAIL FROM A NIGERIAN PRINCE
asking me for $100,000 to help him build a business and in return I am promised 10 fold. What does he think I am a fool?I already invested in a Prince from Qatar for half the price last week. Sucker can’t scam me.
BOB WAS IN TROUBLE. HE FORGOT HIS WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.
His wife was really angry. She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE!" The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday.
I ASKED SIRI WHY I WAS STILL SINGLE

MY WIFE TOLD ME TO TAKE A SPIDER OUT INSTEAD OF KILLING IT. We went and had drinks.Cool guy, wants to be a web designer.
ANOTHER JOKE SENT IN FROM ONE OF OUR READERS , PAT HUSSEY FRANK THE FARMER HAD A NAGGING WIFE.
She made his life miserable. The only real peace he got was when he was out in the field ploughing. One day while in the field, Frank's wife brought him his lunch. Then while he quietly ate she berated him with a constant stream of nagging and complaining. Suddenly, Frank's old donkey kicked up his back legs, struck her in the head killing her instantly. At the funeral, the Priest noticed that when the women offered their sympathy, Frank would nod his head up and down. But when the men came up and spoke quietly to him, he would shake his head from side to side. After the mourners left, the Priest approached Frank and asked, "Why did you nod your head up and down to all the women and shook from side to side to all the men?" Well, Frank replied, "The women all said how nice she looked, and her dress was so pretty, so I agreed by nodding my head up and down. And all the men asked, "Is that donkey for sale?"

T RQU ING CARS ! business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read Get your 36 O PREMIUM ADVERTISING BUDGET IMPLICATIONS FOR THE MOTOR INDUSTRY
Budget 2020, announced this week by Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe, contains a number of measures specific to motoring: • No changes to CO2 element of VRT in 2020. VRT will continue to be based on NEDC for 2020. • Replacement of 1 per cent diesel surcharge with a nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions based charge. This surcharge will apply to all passenger cars registered for the first time in the State from 1 January 2020. • Extend the Benefit-In-Kind zero rate on electric vehicles to 2022; • Extend VRT reliefs for conventional and plug in hybrids to 2020, subject to CO2 thresholds; • Provide additional relief through the Diesel Rebate Scheme to hauliers to compensate that sector for the increased cost of fuel; and • Increase of the carbon levy on motor fuels of €6, adding €2 for a tank full of either petrol or diesel. This will increase the cost of doing business in Ireland. • Introduce an environmental rationale for Benefit In Kind for commercial vehicles from 2023; • Reduce qualifying CO2 thresholds for reliefs in respect of Capital Allowances and VAT reclaim on commercial vehicles;
ROAD SAFETY WEEK WARNING: BUYING A UK IMPORT?, CHECK THE TYRES!
For this year’s road safety week (Oct 7-11), German tyre manufacturer, Continental Tyres is urging Irish motorists to get into the tyre safety habit of regular checks. In particular, in this year of booming imports of second-hand vehicles from the UK, Continental is advising prospective UK vehicle purchasers to pay more attention to the vehicle’s tyres. The warning comes as a survey carried out by the tyre manufacturer of some 100 UK-registered vehicles on car dealer forecourts in Dublin showed that more than 75 percent of them were fitted with budget tyres, in particular, cheap Chinese brands. According to Tom Dennigan of Continental Tyres Ireland: “Lower cost is what is driving the growing number of second-hand imports into Ireland and it is clear that, in an effort to keep the price as low as possible, the majority of car dealers are opting to fit the cheapest tyres on these vehicles”. “Independent tests by safety authorities in several countries have shown that so called budget tyres do not have anything like the same performance and safety attributes as premium tyres. This is particularly true when it comes to stopping in the wet, a key requirement when driving in Ireland. Those independent tests have shown that a car fitted with budget tyres performing an emergency stop in the wet can take an extra 15 metres or four car lengths to stop than a car fitted with a premium tyre brand. That 15 metres could be the difference between avoiding a collision or not.” Tyres are a vehicle’s only contact with the road and RSA studies have consistently shown what an important influence they can have on the roadworthiness and the safety of a vehicle. “So even though it might seem the price is right with that second-hand UK vehicle, you may be paying a much higher price in the long run,” concluded Dennigan.
PAY AS YOU GO CAR CHARGING !
The majority of electric-car drivers will use public charging points at least as often as they have up to now when they shortly start paying for power, a major new survey reveals. However, a substantial 33pc are more likely not to use the facilities when the new pay-for-charge system kicks in.Overall, 80pc are in favour of a pay-as-you-go system but a subscription deal, favoured by 20pc, will reduce per-unit cost. The ESB customer survey of 1,800 people also found 90pc support for a planned 'hogging' levy for vehicles left too long at a charging point.Such overwhelming support for an 'overstay fee' reflects the daily frustration experienced by many. The new charging era will begin soon. Prices and details of fast-charger costs will be announced first and are expected to kick in a few weeks after that. Costs for using ordinary chargers will be revealed before the end of the year. Users will be encouraged to register in advance. Cost will be based on the amount of energy you use, rather than how long it takes - and most of those surveyed (72pc) favour that, but 28pc would prefer it to be time-based.Details of the survey provided a backdrop to a recent meeting between the Irish EV Owners Association and ecars, which runs the charging infrastructure. The meeting heard, for example, that chargers are sustaining significant damage from users. The damage may be due to less experienced drivers being unaware of how to unlock the cables from their vehicles.Drivers are also not replacing connectors carefully enough.Recently, 10 fast AC, six CCS and five CHAdeMO cables had to be replaced at a cost of €20,000.Those at the meeting agreed that the ESB and EV owners will work to help show drivers how to correctly disconnect and replace connectors.Car manufacturers will also be asked to ensure dealerships inform customers of the charging process. Those at the meeting were also told how up to 400 drivers a week are ringing the customer call centre to start and end charging transactions because they have not ordered an access card or don't have theirs with them.Under the €20m infrastructure project backed by the Climate Action Fund, any AC chargers that have become unreliable are to be replaced in the coming months. And they expect to build eight-vehicle and four-vehicle charging hubs around the country. They will also add a two-point 150kW charger to more than 30 current fast-charger sites. FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR GET YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE FOR THE MARK FARRAN CUP FINAL THIS SUNDAY: In a week where there has been record breaking crowds in Tallaght Stadium for both the Women’s Seniors game against Ukraine and the u21’s who took on Italy it is hoped that at Mounthawk Park there will also be a sell-out crowd. As a soccer person writing about tickets going on sale for a game at Mounthawk Park is not something that happens often. But then having a team in the Mark Farran Cup final is also a rare and wonderful occasion. Tickets are available from Mounthawk Park or from the clubs. At 3.30pm this Sunday one of the aristocrats of the game Bohemians come to Tralee. They are one of the top League of Ireland clubs and have a great record at underage level and are also in the u19’s Enda McGill final as well as this u17 decider. Bohs are aligned with one of the top Schoolboys clubs in Dublin in St Kevin’s Boys and so has the first call on all their better players. However while Kerry has had a great run to the final defeating Cobh Ramblers, Galway United and Cork City it was not as straight forward on the other side of the draw. Bohs actually lost out in their quarter final to St Patrick’s Athletic but it transpired that they had fielded and illegal player. There was then a dispute over the date of the semi-final which in fairness was not the fault of Bohs and they went through to the final. However for Jimmy Mowlds and his side this will have no bearing on how they approach the final in Tralee. They topped their section of the League with 45 points from their 20 games scoring 61 goals and conceding only 21. However Kerry have had a very good season to date and go into the final in great form with 4 wins and two draws since the end of August. They are strong all over the field and have goal scorers in the likes of Daniel Okwute, Cian Brosnan, Nathan Gleeson and Colin Walsh. The management team of Billy Dennehy and James Sugrue have both played the game at a very high level with Billy enjoyed a good career across channel and also at Shamrock Rovers and Cork City and both will be able to give the Kerry squad some valuable insights Friday 11th October 2019
into how to prepare for such a big game. Mark Farran was a great player for Derry City who passed away at the much too young age of 33 in 2016 and hopefully this final will be another fitting occasion to honour his memory. The Kerry District League under Chair Sean O’Keeffe and Secretary John Regan were to the forefront when the FAI approached a select number of Leagues to enter the Underage League of Ireland. Following on from the entering of the 17’s Kerry is now represented at the full four age groups -13’s, 15’s, 17’s and 19’s. Mounthawk Park is one of the top venues in the country with two top quality All Weather pitches and plenty of cover in the seated stand and the new covered area at the other side of the field if the weather does not cooperate. So if you haven’t seen the Kerry 17’s in action or haven’t been to Mounthawk Park for a while then this Sunday it’s the place to be for the Mark Farran Cup Final against Bohemians / St Kevins kicking off at 3.30pm. BOTH THE 17’S AND 19’S WON AT THE WEEKEND: Last weekend was very good one for both the Kerry 17’s and 19’s.The 17’s won 3-1 away to Waterford, after extra time, in the Shield to progress to the quarter finals. The u19’s have had a tough season but put in one of their best performances at home to Cobh Ramblers in their Shield opener. They came back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to win 4-3 and will play their quarter final this Saturday away to Cabinteely who finished 6th in the League and while this will be a very tough test the 19’s are quiet capable of extending their season for another week and reach the Last 4 of another national competition. SILVER FOR TERRACE TALK: Kerry sports fans are very well served by the local media including Radio Kerry. Apart from the Saturday and Sunday afternoon sports programme Terrace Talk is the Monday evening programme that has a national wide listenership. At the weekends Radio Awards the station won 4 IMRO’s with the presenter of Terrace Talk Tim Moynihan winning the Silver Award
in the Sports Broadcaster of the Year – Local/Regional Category. Time took over the hugely popular programme after the sad passing of Weeshie Fogarty and to his credit has made it his own. It is never easy in any job to follow someone who has made that position their own for a long number of years. However Tim, who is also the stations main GAA commentator, has managed to keep the essence of the programme while at the same time putting his own stamp on it. Credit must also go to producer Eamon Hickson of Terrace Talk. RACHEL BRINGS HOME THE BRONZE: Tralee’s Rachel O’Connor has come home from the World Powerlifting Championships with a bronze medal from the 90km category in a sport that she only took up in April of 2018. SWIMMERS CAN’T BE SEPARATED IN TITLE RACE: Swimming in the seas continues to grow in popularity and the Tralee Bay Swimming Club is one of the most proactive in the country. Last Saturday night the action was out of the water with the clubs Awards Night held in the Meadowlands Hotel in conjunction with the Tralee Triathlon Club. And while the weather was not the most cooperative for the Tralee Bay Swimming Club World series it was still a very hotly contested Swimmer of the Year competition. After the series of swims that did take place the top two could not be separated with the joint winners Brendan O’Connell and Morna O’Halloran tied on 20 points and level on most wins and seconds. The other swimming awards given out were for Thelma Caples as the Newcomer of the Year with Mairead Fox being named as the Winter Swimmer of the Year. The Most Improved Swimmer went to Noel Hilliard. The top 3 in the various Groups were Ger McDonnell, Matt O’Regan and Moises O’Laide in Group A, David Ryle, Frank Ryan and Noel Hilliard in Group B and Sharon Cahill, Thelma Caples and Gerry Gallagher in Group C. One of the eagerly awaited awards is for Club Person of the Year and this went to John O’Sullivan. There was also a Special Award presented to Elaine Burrows Dillane who recently completed her English Channel Swim. STAYING IN THE WATER: MOUNTHAWK SWIM FOR MUNSTER GLORY Students in Mercy Mounthawk, Tralee start their quest for Munster swimming glory this weekend in the Munster Senior Schools Swimming Championship in the UL Arena, Limerick. 22 students compete in individual events with

6 Relay teams representing Mercy Mounthawk. All of the students are members of the very successful Kingdom Swimming Club in Tralee which has had great success with swimmers at Provinical and National competitions. Marie Fitzgibbon of Swimheadz kindly sponsored swim hats and t-shirts for the students and presented them to the students. Mounthhawk Swimming Co-ordinators, Aine Clarke & Fionnuala Casey thanked Marie for her generous sponsorship and the Kingdom Swimming Club coach - Ger McDonnell for his assistance. John O’Rourke, School Principal wished everyone well in the Munster Senior Schools Championship. PARNELL’S NEWS: There was great news for the club when the u15’s won the Plate Final at the Tom Healy Memorial Tournament. The squad and management put in a great effort at the Tournament which took place in Abbeydorney. The u14 hurlers have also brought silverware to the club finishing South Kerry as Division 1 champions. They beat Rathmore under lights but the narrowest margin 1-09 to 1-08. This was a fitting end to the season for the squad who had already reached the semi-final of Felie and of the Co. League and who put in a great effort all season. The Tralee side led 1-07 to 0-04 at the break and were still 5 points up inside the last 10 minutes but had to fight hard to hold on at the end. Captain Dylan Cunningham was presented with the Shield by South Kerry GDA Colm O’Brien. The u13 and u15 Girls really enjoyed the excellently run Veronica Stack Tournament that was held in the Spa GAA grounds. The 13’s finished 3rd having beaten Abbeyleix and drawing with Millstreet to reach the Cup semifinal before losing to Killarney. The girls put in a great effort against some more experienced teams. The u10 girls also performed very well in the tournament where we were one of the few clubs to enter two teams. While the conditions were tough all the girls put in a great effort in their three games. Well done to the two Parnells teams that competed in the u13 Denis Nagle Tournament in Rathmore. The ‘White’ team put in three good performances to finish second in a very strong group. The ‘Blue’ team won two games and drew the third and can be very happy with their outing. This was their last competition of the year and the hurling season has now officially finished. Well done to the players and coaches for a fantastic year and they finished off with one final outing on Friday 4th - the now traditional U10 end of season Bowling and Pizza night in Bowling Buddies which was enjoyed by all. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: In the Garvey’s Supervalu Co Senior Football Championship Round 3 there was heart break for the team as they lost out to East Kerry 0-20 to 3-09 after extra time. This campaign saw them defeat Kenmare Shamrocks by one point and then lose to Dingle by the same amount before last weekend exit of the competition. The squad and management will be disappointed because they built up a big lead 3-01 to 0-02 points early on but East Kerry were level by the break. With a man sent off the Tralee side battled hard and were ahead before a last minute equaliser to see the game end 0-15 to 3-06. With the sides back to 15 a side for the extra time both sides gave it everything and they were still deadlocked after the first period 0-18 to 3-09. The Tralee side had some chances to pull ahead but didn’t take them and when David Clifford kicked two points it was East Kerry that progressed. The u12 Girls were in Town League action but went down to Na Gaeil 4-14 to 5-04. Tralee District were the winner s of the Billy Kissane Tournament defeating St Kierans. Girls from the club were joined on the District side by players from Na Gaeil, John Mitchels and the Stacks. Kelly Fitzgerald, Rachel Foley, Sophie Hassett, Anù Hayes, Nathali Mulumba, Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy and Lauren Doody (injured) represented the club in the 4-10 to 2-02 win. The u14 Girls played Stacks under the lights and despite the Black and Amber making the better start the girls fought back and were ahead by 5 at the break and extended that to 7 but the Stacks again fought back. Kelly Fitzgerald made some great saves late on to ensure a 4-11 to 5-04 win. Our scorers on the night were Aoibhín MacCarthy 1 -04, Katie Nix 1-05, Sophie Hassett 1 goal, Keelan Coffey 1-01 and Lily O’ Brien 1 point. The u16 Girls are in the final of the North Kerry League where they take on Na Gaeil. We had a busy weekend in Strand Road with games in town and in Killorglin for our Juvenile Academy. Our U8 and U10 girls were in Na Gaeil on Saturday for Go Games. What started out as a horrible wet morning turned into a lovely afternoon for the girls - Thanks to Mike and everyone in Na Gaeil for hosting. The u16 Boys had their first outing in the Town League away to Churchill winning well on a 5-15 to 1-04 score line. They play John Mitchels in the next round which is due to played this Sunday. The Juveniles Academy take place at the usual time this Sunday from 11am and everyone is welcome for the last week’s action before the seasons finish up for the season. The clubs Halloween Party is take place at Sandy Feet Farm on Saturday October 26th coting e5 per child. This includes entry to the Farm, the cost towards the bus and

In the Academy there was another great turn-out with Anna Poff as the Player of the Week at u6’s with all age groups continuing as normal this Sunday. The Seniors next round of the County League, Round 11, will be against Firies in Division 3 has been confirmed for the first weekend of November after the County Championship. Well done to Seamus Murphy and the entire St Brendans Board panel on their comprehensive victory over Shannon Rangers last Saturday evening in Austin Stacks Park in Round 3 of the Senior Football Championship on a score line of 4-22 to 1-12. This victory sees them qualify for the quarter-finals. The quarterfinal draw will be made after the rescheduled St Kierans - Kilcummin match this weekend. STACK NEWS: The annual fundraising Bring and Buy Cake Sale will take place this Sunday morning from 11am. All baked donations will be most welcome. PROMOTED EANNA BEAT SUPERLEAGUE CHAMPIONS IN EARLY SEASON BLOW TO GARVEY’S Garvey’s Tralee Warriors suffered their second defeat of the Super League season going down by 87-70 to DBS Éanna in Colaiste Éanna on Saturday night. DBS Éanna were simply the better team on the night, maintaining their unbeaten record in some style as they remain on top of the Super League table with three games played. The absence of playmaker Paul Dick and Rap Buivydas did not help the Warriors cause from the outset but their overall shooting performance, where just one from three shots from the field found the mark, was a key factor in their defeat. Garvey’s PRO Alan Cantwell reports on how the night went. The game opened brightly for both sides with early scores from Joshua Wilson, Mark Reynolds, Daniel Heaney and Stefan Zecevic for the hosts matched with efforts from Jonathan Lawton and Eoin Quigley. Two scores from Kieran Donaghy in his first game this season saw the sides level at 10-10 at the midway point. Éanna then hit the Warriors with a scoring blitz firing in scores from both inside and out from Zecevic, Marco Tomic, Neil Lynch and Maxine Zefron to lead by 18. Daniel Jokubaitis opened his account a late three for the Warriors but Éanna led 28-13 at the end of the first. The Warriors upped the ante in early in the second and Lawton and Ivan Bogdanovic combined for 9 early points for the visitors. However Paris Ballinger, Tomic and Zecevic continued to find gaps in the Warriors rearguard to restore the hosts 18 point lead. Keith Jumper began to find his way to the Éanna basket and along with scores from Darragh O’Hanlon and Donaghy helped the Warriors cut the gap to 12. But Éanna continued to find their shooters in space and Wilson helped himself to back to back threes to maintain the lead. Darren O’Sullivan cut to gap with a three on the buzzer to leave Éanna 51-39 up at the long break. Despite not playing with any great fluency the Warriors worked their way back into the contest in the third with threes from O’Hanlon and Jokubaitis and scores inside from Donaghy and two from Quigley. Heaney and Hilary Nets kept the Warriors in check but Donaghy’s domination under his own board kept the visitors momentum going. Tomic, Wilson and Heaney added for the hosts but Bogdanovic had the final say with an effort from inside and as the sides turned for Éanna lead was

down to a more manageable 9, at 65-56. Into the final quarter and Bogdanovic and Lawton fired in early to cut the Éanna lead down to just 6 points. Reynolds replied with two scores of his own for the hosts but when Donaghy and Lawton both found their range an unlikely Warriors win was still possible. However Éanna captain Neil Lynch put the result beyond the visitors with a huge three and followed that with a score inside and in an instant the Dublin side were 14 up. Quigley cut the advantage to 10 but Tomic, Zecevic and Wilson helped Éanna finish in some style for a thoroughly deserved 87-70 win. Scorers: DBS Éanna: Marco Tomic 19, Stefan Zecevic 14, Joshua Wilson 13 Warriors: Jonathan Lawton 15, Kieran Donaghy 12, Eoin Quigley 9 WARRIORS ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Next up for the Warriors is another road trip to face DCU Saints in the Phoenix Centre in Carrickmacross, tip- off is 7.30pm this Saturday night.
