Kerry Airport Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Air International Travel To Wild Atlantic Kerry CONFIRMATION of seven routes for 2020, a new-look website and a charity partner to underline plans to reach out to communities more throughout the Kingdom are among Kerry Airport’s key plans as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. Kerry Airport was officially opened on Saturday 30th August 1969 by the then Minister for Transport and Power, Brian Lenihan TD, and 50 years on the vision of its founding fathers has been realised in the shape of a successful and respected international airport. Half a century on from that historic occasion, modern passengers will be delighted to learn that Ryanair will continue to serve Kerry with flights to Berlin and Frankfurt Hahn in Germany, London Luton and Stansted in the UK and, to the delight of sun-seekers, Alicante and Faro in 2020. The short 50 minutes journey from Kerry to Dublin is a major saving in time for busy Kerry businesses needing access to Dublin and onward to destinations in the USA, Middle East and Australia. Seamless interlining of the Aer Lingus flights from USA to Kerry via Dublin is seeing increased American tourists coming direct to the Kingdom. the CEO of Kerry Airport, John Mulhern, said: “Over
the next 12 months, as Kerry Airport celebrates its 50th anniversary, we will honour past accomplishments and ensure the airport’s continued success and contribution to the community of Kerry and the wider region. Our airport is situated in Wild Atlantic Kerry - the most prime location in Ireland with so much potential and with enough charm to continue filling flights with passengers from all over Europe.”Another key development moving forward, to the benefit of passengers traveling in and out of Kerry and the hospitality sector in the county, is the development of the new-look and easy to navigate airport website www.kerryairport.ie. The economic footprint of Kerry Airport influences employment and the earnings of those directly employed at the airport, the support services onsite and in the supply chain. Kerry Airport contributes approximately €9.5 million to the local economy each year. The website, which has undergone a major transformation, offers visitors a streamlined view of Kerry as an accessible destination and gateway. It presents the timetable in an easy-to-view format along with the essential live flight information which is updated regularly. John Mulhern has announced
that Kerry Airport will team up with Pieta House for 2020. “The wellbeing of passengers is a priority for our airport and when immersed every day in tourists enjoying our beautiful county it can be easy to lose sight of those; often male, often farmers, often struggling with small businesses, often battling existing mental health issues without support who increasingly find themselves marginalised and isolated in rural Ireland. In choosing Pieta House as our charity partner for 2020, Kerry Airport has rightly identified with an organisation equally concerned about this increasing marginalisation of rural Ireland and the isolation many feel as population centres and opportunities for social interaction shift relentlessly into urban
centres. Pieta House has a dedicated team working in Kerry to support people and communities in crisis by providing freely accessible, professional services to all who may be affected by suicide,” he said.Kerry Airport is ideally located for anyone wishing to travel on business or pleasure with direct flights to seven destinations including: London-Stansted, London-Luton, Frankfurt-Hahn, Berlin, Alicante & Faro with Ryanair and to Dublin with Aer Lingus Regional. There is ample and great value parking at Kerry Airport as well as friendly service. For more information about Kerry Airport, please visit www.KerryAirport.ie or contact +353 66 9764644.

Make the Most of Tralee with the new App! Tralee has launched a new app that will help locals and tourists make the most of the town and surrounding areas. The new phone app, was officially launched on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store this week, and has an extensive number of sections covering topics including shopping, local attractions, event tickets, walking trails, self-guided tours, useful contacts, as well as places to stay, eat and drink. It is anticipated that the app will encourage people to explore Tralee more all year round and support businesses in the entire town. Ken Tobin of Tralee Chamber Alliance said: “We are excited for what this App is going to offer and has huge potential as people get used to using the ticketing system for local events, special offers, things to do and online trading for local shops. Through this App you’ll discover things you never knew about Tralee.”
Friday 1st November 2019
Speaking at the launch, Colin Hanley of the Galway-based Boon Agency (the company behind the development app) said “as the different phases of the app are rolled out, it will also offer additional sections, including in-app purchases, a clubs/schools section, local alerts and the ability to prebook digital tickets for events taking place in Tralee.” “Our brief from the Chamber was to develop a digital infrastructure that businesses can plug into without having to develop it themselves, and to create a useful engaging online experience that makes it easy for people to do business in Tralee and turn visitors on the app into customers for local businesses” said Mr Hanley. Ken Tobin confirmed that along with months of development hours from the team in Tralee Chamber and the Boon Agency to date €15,000 has been invested in the development of the App for Tralee, with support
being provided by Cara Credit Union, McCarthy Insurance Group (MIG) and Kerry County Council’s Community Support fund. Michelle King of the Rose Hotel & Tralee Chamber Alliance said “We have been incredibly impressed with how the App delivers on the Trails and Tourist Guides in and around Tralee, which will allow visitors discover the history, culture and things to do around Tralee in their own time all year round. Through this App, we can promote Tralee as a great place to visit, shop in and stay.” Suzanne Ennis of Cara Credit Union welcomed the App, saying it was now up to the local community to buy into the app to make it work. She said “this presents a great opportunity to support local businesses all over the

town, and the public should download the App and make the most of what Tralee has to offer.” Tralee Chamber Alliance will continue to work alongside the Boon Agency to update the App on a weekly basis and onboard new businesses, and the intention is that businesses all over Tralee will be given access to update their own elements of the App including the sale of tickets to events and attractions, and as the App will soon incorporate a ‘click and collect’ function for local businesses the App is expected to generate significant interest from a new generation of avid shoppers and visitors to Tralee. The ‘Tralee’ App is available for download from both the Google Play and Apple App stores now free of charge.

Tralee Guides blaze a trail to Croke Park! Two Tralee teenagers received the Trail Blazer National Guide Award – Irish Girl Guides’ highest award – at a special ceremony in Croke Park. The girls were among 135 Irish Girl Guides (IGG) members who travelled from all corners of the country to receive the award and, with their Guide leaders and families, celebrate reaching the pinnacle of Guiding. Leah Williams-Morgan and Grainne Leahy of St Brendan’s Guides, Tralee each received a Trail Blazer gold pin from Irish Girl Guides (IGG) President Maureen Murphy and a National Guide Award certificate from IGG Chief Commissioner Helen Concannon. Congratulating the recipients, IGG President Maureen Murphy said, “It is a privilege to be here today to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of our Trail Blazers who have all shown
commitment in completing the challenges and, in doing so, putting your individual footprint on your tasks. You are inspirational, you will inspire younger members and take your learning and experiences gained into your communities and wider society.” “We can create any future we want if we dream big enough and work hard enough,” she continued. “I can already see that working hard comes easy to you all, so nothing can possibly stop you from becoming whatever you want in your life.”
Carol Stanley, Assistant Chair of IGG Guide Branch, said “We are delighted for you all and we all know that you have worked to your fullest potential to receive this award and hope you continue to use many of the life-skills you have achieved wherever life takes you in the future.” Irish Girl Guides welcomes

Celebrations for Byrnes SPAR at Q Mark Awards 2019 There were smiles all around for Byrne’s SPAR Caherslee at The Clayton Hotel on
Dublin’s Burlington Road on Friday, September 27th, where the National Q Mark Awards ceremony took place. The gala event was a chance for all those nominated to celebrate the high standards they’d achieved in rigorous audits by EIQA, the proud guardians of the Q Mark suite of Quality standards. To make it onto the list, each enterprise had to earn a place in the top 6 per cent of the audits carried out across the island of Ireland. Byrne’s SPAR Caherslee is one of 2 Tralee based SPAR stores owned by Louis Byrne & his wife Colette O’Sullivan. This service station and store is managed by Deirdre Fitzgibbon with a committed team of 16 staff and has an enviable reputation for excellence in customer service and food safety standards. The store has consistently achieved the highest level 3 Q mark for Hygiene and Food safety over the 3 years and this is their second year being nominated for a National award. Store Manager Deirdre Fitzgibbon says it’s really satisfying to see their hard work paying off: “We were thrilled to be nominated for a National Q mark award. We’ve always done really well in the awards programme but to be selected as a finalist in the National awards is amazing. The team here work exceptionally hard every day on store standards and we all certainly deserve the nomination”. The Awards night is also a great opportunity for the Q Mark Awards charity partner to make their pitch to the business community. This year John and Jayne Glynn attended the event on behalf of the Gavin Glynn Foundation. John spoke about his son Gavin’s journey through cancer and why he and his family were inspired to help others with children who have to travel abroad for cancer treatment. Fundraising in aid of the Foundation raised more than €8000 on the night with all prizes generously donated by Q Mark customers.

Wine review with Carry Out, Tralee & Ardfert
Eagle Hawk Chardonnay Wolfgang Blass established his winery in 1966, crafting wines which epitomised quality, character and consistency; a philosophy our winemakers continue today. The Eaglehawk Chardonnay is a classic Australian example of the world’s favourite white grape variety with generous fruit flavours and a soft, beautifully balanced palate. The flavours of peach and melon combined with a hint of supporting oak make this wine an ideal partner to chicken and pasta dishes. 'Eagle Hawk Chardonnay is a consistently good Aussie Chardonnay with attractive tropical fruit aromas and flavours and a hint toasty French oak. Almost like sunshine in a glass' *Offer Available until 3rd of November (Sunday) * You will find it in Carry Out in Tralee ( Oakpark& Horans) and in Ardfert

Beauty
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!
I hope you’re all having a great week. I can’t believe it’s November already. WOW. This time of year it’s important to look after our hair and skin, the weather is colder so both can get a little dry quite quickly. At the moment I am trying out the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream as my daily moisturizer and I’m loving it so far, it keeps my skin nice and hydrated and is a great prep product for under makeup. I will keep you updated after I use it for a full month. Another thing you want to do is make sure that you are staying hydrated. Drinking water will keep your skin and hair at it’s best and you’ll also feel better for it. With regards to my hair, I have quite thick hair, I’m trying to grow it out at the moment as I want it to be long again. For shampoo I’m using the Christophe Robin Prickly Pear Shampoo & for conditioner I’m actually using a mask, it’s the new Wella Colour Motion Mask. Both these products keep by hair nice and shiny and feeling healthy this time of year. Another thing I’m loving for my body moisturizer is the Soap And Glory Smoothie Star body butter. I got mine in Boots and honestly, it smells like a dream and leaves my skin so so soft. A little bit goes a very long way. I love giving all my makeup clients fresh and hydrated skin before makeup application, on each client to prep the skin at the moment I am using the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream & a radiance primer. I think it’s so important when you get your makeup done for your skin to look like it’s glowing from within. If you need any makeup appointments, you can message me on Facebook ‘Rebecca Shortt Makeup’ or Instagram ‘@ rebeccashorttmakeup’, alternatively text 0873929778.

WEIGHT TRAINING 101 Hello my strong friends, this week I’m talking all about weight training and how it can help you achieve your goals!
I’ve been consistent with my weight training recently and I’m definitely seeing changes. I’m training in The Arena Gym in Tralee and I love it! In general, people will practice cardio(running, cycling etc) and forget about weight training when it comes to burning fat. And there are still many trainers who will say that aerobic exercises burn off fat and weightlifting is only used to build muscle bulk. This statement is not correct because the more muscle mass one acquires through weight-bearing exercises, the more they will burn fat calories — even at rest. Cardio combined with weight training will result in effective fat loss. Cardio exercises will raise muscle metabolism during the activity and for a short time after the exercise session. Weight training, on the other hand, will raise your muscle metabolism during the exercise session — and for a long time after the exercise session. Some high intensity trainers have even seen their metabolism rise for several days following their training session.
Whether your goal is to tone or build muscles, it is important to know what happens during the muscle training process. When lifting weights, muscle tissues are torn apart (at the microscopic level) from the stress, and it's in the recovery period that your muscles become stronger and, therefore, able to support the extra stress. Usually the recovery period required is 24 to 48 hours after a weight training session so it’s good to train different muscle groups on different days. My current training split looks a bit like this… DAY 1 – LEGS DAY 2 – UPPER BODY DAY 3 – LEGS DAY 4 – BACK & CHEST DAY 5 – SHOULDERS & ARMS And then I have two rest days a week also. It is so so SO important to fuel your body efficiently when weight training. You need to give yourself the correct food especially carbs and protein, so that your muscles recover and you have energy to fuel your sessions. If you are in any way confused about nutrition and what you should be eating, get
in touch with a good well informed personal trainer. I highly recommend Recalibrated Bodies, they strive to inform all their clients on why they’re eating what they’re eating and don’t cut out ‘bad’ foods. If you go to a personal trainer who tells you to basically eat plain chicken, broccoli and rice or something to that effect… RUN!!! A good PT won’t cut out food groups or drastically cut carbs, trust me. Anybody who debates the fact that weight-bearing exercises don't help people lose weight and fat should lift weights for one hour and see their heart rate go through the roof. I definitely sweat a lot more when I do a good weights session. An important factor to consider when trying to lose weight is that lots of muscle mass can be lost as a result. As muscle mass will keep your metabolism high, try to avoid quick weight loss through miracle diets or starvation. This weight loss will be regained just as quickly. Instead go for a gradual fat loss routine by combining weight training and cardio, and allow muscle mass to build up and increase your metabolism. Results may take a little longer, but they will last for a longer period of time. If you do a quick fix weightloss ‘diet’ then you won’t get the results you actually want. Just don’t focus on how long it will take to get to your goals, just focus on yourself day by day and the changes will come, I promise.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE PARDON
A FIFTEEN YEAR OLD AMISH BOY AND HIS FATHER WERE IN A SHOPPING MALL......
Two men get into an elevator in a doctors office. One man, beaming says to the other, “I just got a brand new hearing aid. It works great; if you were to drop a pin, I could hear it; if a mouse were to sneeze cross the street, I would hear it.” The second man They were amazed by almost everything they saw, replies “thats impressive, what kind is it?” but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again. The first man looks down at his watch and says “11 o’clock.”
The boy asked, ‘What is this, Father?’ The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, ‘Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don’t know what it is.’ While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number. and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order.
PIZZATIME !
While working at a pizza parlour I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. The cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. The man then said ‘Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don’t think I’m hungry enough to eat 6
GRANDAD WE LOVE YOU !!
A little girl says .....”Grandad ,,,,Would you make a frog noise for me?” The grandad, confused asks, “why?” The little girl replies, “dad says when you croak we are all going to disneyland”.
A YOUNG GARDA
A young Garda notices an old man driving through the town at 2 in the morning .... and it had been a pretty slow night and so he decided to pull in over to see if he needed any assistance. “Where are you going sir?,” asked the young officer. “I am on my way to attend a lecture concerning the negative effects of alcohol on interpersonal relationships,” said the man. “Who would hold such a lecture at this time of night?” asked the officer. “That would be my wife,” said the man.
Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blond stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son..... ‘Go get your Mother.’
A SMALL JOKE
A dwarf goes to a very good but very busy doctor and asks “I know you are busy but do you treat dwarves?” The doctor replies “Yes, but you will have to be a little patient”.

T RQU ING CARS ! business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read Get your 32 O PREMIUM ADVERTISING HONEST JOHN - CLEAN BREAK
I have a Volvo C30 1.6 TD that has run on supermarket fuel since new. It is nine years old and has done 45,000 trouble-free miles. Would it be a good idea to change over permanently to superdiesel at this stage of its life? I understand the benefits of the more expensive fuel, but have I left it too late to be of any use? RB HJ SAYS It’s never too late. Use a diesel injector cleaning additive with the first fill, then stick to the same brand of super. You may not notice an immediate improvement, but you will over the coming weeks.
RING OF STEAL
What type of security lock can I use on my Peugeot 108? AS HJ says Get yourself a Disklok from Halfords. This is a big, beautifully made metal cover that envelops the entire steering wheel. They cost about £100. Highly inconvenient, especially to a thief.
ZERO CHANCE
I am amazed that, to meet zero emissions by 2050, the problem of what to do about the millions of existing petrol/diesel cars has not been mentioned. The switch from petrol to battery is going to take years and, given the life of a well-maintained car, unless a complete ban is introduced the aim of zero emissions by 2020 is pure fantasyland. What do you think? RS, Manchester HJ says You’re right – 35 million vehicles cannot be replaced by zero-emissions alternatives over even 30 years, partly because sufficient zero emissions vehicles cannot be made in that time period; partly because the raw materials for sufficient batteries are not available; partly because the generation of electricity and charging infrastructure cannot be put in place; and partly because the majority of the population of the UK simply can’t afford them anyway.
NASTY TURN
Our son’s Nissan Juke has developed steering problems. When accelerating it suddenly pulls to the right followed by veering to the left. The supplying Nissan dealer acknowledged other such instances but said that there were no recalls for such a fault. Swapping the tyres around made no difference. Any ideas what’s wrong? IM...DUBLIN HJ SAYS If it's one of the more powerful petrol Jukes with front-wheel drive only, then the problem is torque steer exaggerated by wide, low profile tyres that are getting worn. Without a special differential, it’s what happens when too much power and torque is fed through driven front wheels that also steer the car.
GOING NOWHERE
I don’t use my car for up to six months each year. I keep it in a garage and disconnect the battery, but even then it doesn’t always start the car when reconnected. Would I have the same problem if I bought an electric car? BP...CORK HJ SAYS If you bought an electric car you would have to charge it anyway before you could use it. As long as it’s plugged in, you can probably use a smartphone app to charge it the day before you arrive home.
FREAK CONTROLS
I don't know the average age of a new car buyer, particularly of an expensive model, but I suggest it might be considerably higher than the manufacturer’s designers, who seem to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to make basic controls more and more complicated. I have no doubt that older people, and perhaps some younger ones as well, are putting off replacing their cars because of this. What is the point of a dropdown menu to change a radio station, when a button on the steering wheel is quicker, easier and safer? AC ....LIMERICK HJ SAYS Peugeot came to realise this and its second-generation infotainment systems have a row of piano keys beneath them to allow quick selection of the correct function.
SUPER TSAR
I noted your recent advice that a Volvo XC60 D5 owner should use only superdiesel. Being the owner of a new XC40 T5 and currently using ordinary unleaded petrol, albeit not from supermarkets, what fuel should I use? AM HJ SAYS Use only Super, because the engine is optimised to run on that. Without it you get poorer torque and poorer response at low revs, reduced economy and less power. You also make the inlet valves more prone to becoming coated with carbon and gumming up the injecto Friday 1st November 2019

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR INTERESTING SPORTING WEEKEND BUT HOW CRUEL CAN IT ALSO BE: This is a big weekend on an off the field for Tralee sport. On the field native son Gary O’Neill will walk out with Shamrock Rovers at the Aviva Stadium as his Shamrock Rovers side take on kingpins Dundalk in the Extra.ie FAI Senior Cup Final on Sunday. The day before the Kerry 17’s will take part in their second national final in a few weeks as they welcome Sligo Rovers to Mounthawk Park on Saturday for a 5pm kick-off. Off the field Austin Stacks will again be keeping their fingers crossed that they will be team to represent Kerry in Munster in a couple of weeks. They must have been getting ready to cheer during the final stages of last Sunday’s Garvey’s Senior Football semi-final when it looked like South Kerry would defeat Dr Crokes. This would mean that the County Final would be between two divisional sides and the Tralee Black and Amber as winners of the Club Championship would be in Munster. However before we look at these this week we saw sport at its cruellest. Those of us that follow sports know the pleasure that it can bring but when the gods conspire against your team it’s the opposite. Last Sunday night many of us tuned in to see if the Irish Men’s Hockey team could qualify for the Olympics. They were 5-3 ahead after the first leg the night before and then early in the game went 1-0 up to lead by three at the half. However as expected the Canadians playing on home ground fought back and led 2-1 as the game neared its end. Watching live no one could have predicted what would unfold in the next two minutes. The clock was inside the last 30 seconds. Canada had the ball and were attacking but Ireland were defending well. James Wallace made one last dart into the Irish circle but was well wide of the goal. He went over, the ball went wide, the clock was about to run out but with 1 second – yes 1 second the Canadian called for a review of the tackle by Lee Cole. Now I am no hockey expert but I did think that Cole’s stick might have been slightly off the astro turf when Wallace went down. But I didn’t think it was a foul and also Friday 1st November 2019
the ball ran out as did the clock. Ireland were celebrating making the 2020 Olympics but Diego Barbas was still looking at the scree as the video umpire. He then dumbfounded and confounded everyone by giving a penalty to Canada. Amazing for such an important game Barbas was in this role for only the second time. The IHF certainly have a case to answer as to why a more experienced official was not appointed. Credit must go to Scott Tupper – a legend in the game in Canada who kept his cool under a huge pressure to score and send the game to penalties. Ireland led 3-1 but could not finish the job and are out. The Irish captain Jonathan Bell said that the official should “hang his head in shame”. Now as I said I am by no means a hockey expert but we have one of the most decorated women in the game living in Killorglin. Kathryn Shaw is a world champion with Ireland and she said that everyone in the game is hugely disappointed with the very harsh decision. “Yes maybe there was a slight touch by Lee so at most a short corner for a foul in the circle. But it definitely was not a penalty stroke. The video umpire was poor throughout the game which is a pity because they are normally spot on.” So from leaping around as a team thinking they were heading to the Olympics their sporting world collapsed in two minutes and the dream was over. This was one of the cruellest few minutes I have ever seen in sport. If this whets your appetite or you have a passing interest in hockey then on Saturday and Sunday night in Donneybrook the Irish women can book their place in Tokyo as they also face Canada over two legs. The games are live on RTE television so tune in hopefully on this occassion the sporting gods are in good form. The Irish did suffer heartbreak before missing out on an Olympic place when the conceded with 8 seconds to go. But we also all followed the women’s team to their World Cup silver medal in London last year. BACK TO THE GOOD NEWS STORIES: Looking forward to the aforementioned Extra.ie FAI Senior Cup final and it will be a proud day for Gary O’Neill, his father Tony and all the family plus all the local coaches at
Kingdom Boys / Tralee Dynamos who worked with Gary before he went across channel. Having had a number of years in England he came back and combined his studies in UCD with captaining their side to promotion last year. He got the dream move to Rovers this year and now that dream could become the ‘Roy of the Rovers’ fairytale if the Hoops can win their first Cup in 34 years. Rovers were last in the Cup final in 2010 when they lost to Sligo Rovers 2-0 on penalties. In a lovely bit of sporting symmetry Billy Dennehy was on that Rovers team and this Saturday he is the manager of the Kerry 17’s that welcome Sligo Rovers to Mounthawk Park in the final of the Airtricity FAI 17’S Shield. To complete this game of sporting connections Sligo Rovers beat Dundalk in their semi-final and in the FAI Cup final Dundalk are Shamrock Rovers opponents!! The Kerry 17’s could have dropped their heads after their Mark Farran loss to Bohs in front of a huge crowd. But the bounced back with a win in the Shield quarter final away to Cobh Ramblers and last weekend made the long trip to Athlone a winning one. They saw off the home side 3-2 on penalties with the Kerry keeper Dylan Doona saving three spot kicks in a row. There should be a huge crowd at Mounthawk Park on Saturday afternoon for what will be the final League of Ireland game of a great season. Ending with silverware for the 17’s would be a fitting end to the season. ON THE HARDWOOD: WARRIORS HOPING TO CONTINUE GREAT RUN WITH ANOTHER HOME WIN: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors enjoyed a great weekend last with wins over Keanes Supervalu in the Cup and then seeing off one of their title rivals Pyrobel Killester in Round 6 of the SuperLeague. The Tralee side were an impressive 91-63 winner in Clontarf. The home side started the better and led 20-15 at the quarter before the Warriors found their range in the second quarter and were ahead by 7 at the half 41-34. The third quarter was, according to Garvey’s PRO Alan Cantwell “something approaching the perfect quarter of basketball with the Tralee boys landing 27 points.” They were 68-46 ahead after three quarters and the game was effectively over. In the end the gap was 28 points and Pat Price’s side will be hoping for a repeat when the two sides meet again in the Pat Duffy quarter final in the Complex on Saturday November 30th. But that’s for another day. The Warriors will only be focused on this Saturday night when Maree comes to the Complex for a 7.30pm game. Garveys are on 12 points from their 6 game and just three points off the unbeaten DBS Eanna who top the SuperLeague.

Maree have just one win from their six games but the home side will not take their Galway opponents for granted. BOYS AND GIRLS BEGIN U18’S NATIONAL CUP CAMPAIGNS: This is also a big weekend when the 18’s National Cup begins for boys and girls. Tralee Imperial girls are in Portlaoise when they will take on Titans and Wildcats. The Imperials boys are in Gormanstown for clashes with Templeogue and Belfast Star. Both Pool stages will take place on Saturday with the section semi-final and final on Sunday. Team Kerry, St Mary’s and St Pauls will also have teams in action over the weekend. MAJOR NEW SPONSOR FOR THE KABB: With the Kerry Area Basketball Board catering from teams from all corners of the county as well as a number of Kerry teams Inter League action there was great news off the court this week. The competitions will now be known as the Kerry Airport Leagues with the company coming on board as the KABB’s title sponsor. This has come about as part of Kerry Airports 50th anniversary celebrations which according to their PR Director John Drummey will see “several new routes for 2020 as well as the announcement of a charity partner and the reaching out to the communities. And the sponsorship of the KABB activities is a perfect fit as the players come from clubs based in every area of the county just as the airport has as wide a customer base.” On the court from a Tralee point of view amongst the many games played were the Men’s Division 2 game where Tralee Tigers went down to St Mary’s 50-26. Aidan McCarthy and Tomas Collins were the Tigers top scorers. In the Boys un13’s Division 1 battle of the Team Kerry teams Bobcats beat Cougars while in the u12 Boys Division 2 Bobcats also recorded a win beating Gneeveguila. All the details of the week are on the Kerry Area Basketball social media pages. THIS WEEKEND AT THE TRACK: There is no racing this Friday night. On Saturday it is the second of the regional nights with the West Kerry and Mid Kerry supporters in attendance. The semi-finals of the Steve Kennedy Memorial will also take place on Saturday night. On Sunday there is the second SIS program on Sunday evening with an 8 race program off at 6.35pm. TRALEE RUGBY CLUB NEWS: TRALEE~LISTOWEL V CASTLEISLAND: Listowel~Tralee U18s had a good win over Castleisland on Saturday We started well, with the aid of a stiff breeze and scored two early tries from forward dominance. This was followed by Jerry Finnegan who scored his second try in as many matches after a series of rucks inside the Castleisland 22. The score of the match went to Emil Beausingeur who outflanked the Castleisland defence on his own 10 metre line before cutting back inside the full back to score a brilliant try under the posts. Seamus Lyne converted again as we finished the half with a commanding 22-0 lead. Castleisland raised their intensity in the second half and used the wind effectively to pin us back.We failed to hit the heights of the first half as the game became scrappy in the gusting breeze. Darragh Murphy showed great pace as he raced down the wing from inside his own half to score his first try of the season. Seamus converted again as we finally ran out 29-0 winners. U14S: TRALEE V LISTOWEL: Congratulations to the under 14s who took away the spoils against Listowel yesterday. Listowel fought to the bitter end which made for an entertaining game. It was great to see such strong performances from our younger players who joined us this year. We wish Ben Sharp a speedy recovery. O’GRADY BACK ON THE BIKE: Tralee motorcycle racer Emmet O’Grady was back on his bike last weekend at the Sunflower Trophy races at the Bishopscourt Racing Circuit in County Down, the biggest single meeting trophy event in the country. O’Grady, who made a return to the sport last season after a long lay-off as a result of a work place accident, is back at the Sunflower Trophy since 2012. O’Grady is the reigning Mondello Dunlop Masters Supersport 600 champion and was on the TAG Racing Honda Fireblade. This is the same bike that he used to finish fifth in this seasons Master’s championship at the County Kildare track. While the event did not go his was O’Grady was delighted to be back at the event he said is “the pinnacle of the Irish short circuit racing and one of my fondest memories was when I finished behind Declan Swanton and Jeremy McWilliams in 2011” Cork rider Swanton and Belfast’s McWilliams both enjoyed World Super Bike Championship success during their careers. HUNDREDS OF YOUNG PLAYERS ENJOY THE JOHN LYNCH TOURNAMENT: Perfect weather, brilliant football, great joy and fun and over 500 smiling players faces made today’s 5th annual John Lynch Memorial U10 tournament a day for the annals. Right from the first arrivals (Oranmore,) watching the rugby match on the big screen in the Connolly Park car park to the final departures (again Oranmore!) after an á la carte meal of sausages and chips, everything went exactly to plan, finishing well ahead of schedule . 16 clubs from 8 counties playing on 16 pitches simultaneously over 2 close venues was a sight to behold and our thanks to every club, player, mentor and parent that travelled. It was really heartening to see the 8 clubs based in Connolly Park line up in a Guard of Honour to greet the other 8 that had paraded up from Caherslee before the finals, as was the huge crowd singing a rousing National Anthem ... on such things are lifelong memories based. A new winner will be engraved on the John Lynch Memorial Trophy with newcomers Ballincollig coming out ahead after a great final with Mungret of Limerick. The Shield saw Oranmore of Galway overcoming the famed Barrs from Cork and whilst there were 6 other finals the key point is that every child was a real winner today, aided by excellent refereeing and exemplary parent and mentor encouragement - all take a welldeserved bow! Event Coordinator John Lynch, on behalf of the Austin Stacks Hurling and Football club said that an event like this take a lot of planning and can only take place with a dedicated group of volunteers doing the work and of course a huge thank you to the teams and coaches.. “A huge thanks to each and every helper - ye have all been thanked individually but suffice it to say that without every single volunteer putting their shoulder to the wheel, the day would not have been the success it was. “To Naomh Molaise Gaels (Sligo,) Oranmore (Galway,) Naas(Kildare,) Kilmacud, Templeogue (Dublin,) Glanmire, St. Finbarrs, Ballincollig (Cork,) Doora Barefield (Clare,) Mungret (Limerick,) Kenmare, Laune Rangers, Legion, Churchill and Ardfert ....See ye all in 2020 !!! COLLEGES ROUND-UP: The Green u15’s were unlucky to go down to St Brendan’s in the final
of the Colm Taft Cup. The Green had a good victory in the Corn Ui Mhuiri defeating 1sk 1-11 to 2-15. Mounthawk went down to St Colm’s from Ballincollig in their clash in the same competition. PARNELLS NEWS: The much anticipated adult social night for the senior hurlers and camogie players, club managers and parents to let their hair down and enjoy a night out on the 7th of December in a mystery location. The bus leaves Tralee at 7.30pm and returns at 1am. A 50seater bus has been booked and places must be reserved - €10 to confirm your place must be dropped to Ronan Gilsenan(Tech Co located just off the square in Tralee) and write your name on the envelope. Well done to Tralee Parnells' players who took part in the Kerry School’s Junior Camogie Blitz, representing their school’s Presentation Tralee & Mercy Mounthawk in Causeway during the week. No surprise that the 2x teams that made it to the A Final were laden with Parnells, including the Pres mentors! Please save the date for Tralee Parnells Awards and Monster Raffle night on the 8th of November. Time, venue details TBC, watch this space. The Club AGM will take place on Friday November 15th in the Kerins O’Rahillly’s clubhouse. Parnells have been fortunate enough to secure Christmas bagpacking in Dunnes Horans on December 22nd 9am-9pm which has great potential to generate funds for the club. Please contact club mentors to provide your availability. PATRICE BRINGS TWO MORE AWARDS HOME: Everyone involved in camogie and indeed all sports fans congratulate Patrice Diggin on her two Awards – the Junior Players Player of the Year and the Soaring Star Award. Senior Football Championship last Sunday. They went down to the David Clifford led East Kerry 1-18 to 1-14. ON THE GREEN – PITCH AND PUTT TRALEE’S JASON O’REGAN ENDS THE SEASON ON A HIGH: Deerpark brought the curtain down on the season at county level over the Bank Holiday weekend with the staging of their Scratch Cup and Open Three Ball Scramble events. A total of 81 players entered their Scratch Cups with 38 teams entering their Scramble events. Sunday at the Scratch Cups saw two of the three events decided by count back. The Gerald Horgan Memorial senior event was won by Tralee’s Jason O’Regan as he matched Pacelli Darcy from Bruff’s score of 12 under par with O’Regan having a better back nine. This was O’Regan’s second win in the event and his second Scratch Cup of the year having won in Listowel. Gerard Cronin won the Intermediate grade for the third year in a row on count-back from Dermot Touhy. Robbie O’Brien Jnr from the Killarney club claimed third on count-back from club-mate Adam Kelly with eight under par. The Seamus McLellan Memorial Junior event saw a clear winner, however. Deerpark’s Erin Moloney shot five under par and was 12 shots clear of Rocklodge duo Greg Lynch in second with Greg’s Rocklodge club-mate John Fitzgerald a further shot back in third. The Ladies prizes meanwhile went to another Rocklodge player, Mary Murray, (senior) and Margaret O’Donovan of Bruff (junior). The Open Three Ball Scramble meanwhile was won by the local Deerpark trio of Aidan O’Keeffe, John Murphy and Hugh O’Sullivan with a score of 31 Nett. The Mixed prize saw a clean sweep for the club meanwhile with Ger O’Connor, Danny and Margaret B Looney winning. ON THE GREEN – GOLF
At the Tralee Golf Club the winner of the Open Golf Classic sponsored by the HR Suite was Ger Power, Jayne Power, Grainne Sheehy and Mikey Sheehy. Second was the quarter of Hugh O’Farrell, Domo Lyne, Diarmuid McElligott and Gerard Hill. It was a good weekend for Ger Power as along with Donal Sugrue they won the Fourball sponsored by the Men’s Committee.
