Ballyseedy Graveyard...a little history! The history of the chapel ruin in old Ballyseedy graveyard is a little obscure. In a record from 1417 it states that a Patrick Offighillig was vicar at this medieval parish church. Its patron was the Blennerhassett family in whose demesne lands the church was built. It was a simple structure of one room, the nave and it possibly had a thatched roof. There are parish records of marriages having taken place here in the eighteenth century. A William Williams and a Cecelia Moor are recorded as being married in Ballyseedy Church of Ireland in 1713. As a result of all the headstone inscriptions in the graveyard being documented by Noel Griffin in 2010, it was found that the earliest headstone with a date recorded was 1740. Though many burial plots, marked and unmarked are older. This information is available on request. For many years the cemetery lay neglected and forgotten apart from the efforts of local people who, from time to time did their best to maintain it.

By 2009 the entire graveyard was totally overgrown and inaccessible. Following a burial in June 2009 a lot of time was spent clearing the graveyard to the point where one could walk the entire area. Since then endless hours and hard work has been invested on a voluntary basis to ensure the graveyard is maintained at its current level. Among others buried in the graveyard is Archdeacon Rowan. He was born in Arabela House, Ballymacelligott, in October 1800. He was the founder and editor of the Kerry Magazine, which ran from 1854 to 1856. A leading figure in the public life of Tralee for nearly four decades, he worked tirelessly for the advancement of the town and its people. He also played a pivotal role in the construction of the ship canal and was one of the most energetic organisers of relief in the Tralee and Castlegregory areas during the famine. Another prominent businessman interred in Ballyseedy is John Donovan who was one of Tralee’s greatest entrepreneurs.
Between 1848 and 1856 the ‘Jeanie Johnston’ was Donovan’s most important ship, carrying emigrants on the outward journey to Quebec and the all-important cargo of timber on the return voyage. John Donovan built the tomb in Ballyseedy in 1838. John Donovan died in April 1864. This provided his sons with the opportunity to demonstrate in lavish style an extravagant and elaborate funeral as
befitted their status in the business community of Tralee. The Tralee Chronicle reported a cortège of about two miles long: “the first of the mourners had disappeared into the woods of Ballyseedy, when the close of the funeral cars were descending the south-eastern side of the “mile height”.’ Follow us on facebook https://www.facebook.com/ ballyseedy.burialground
Wine review with Carry Out, Tralee
Gallo Family Merlot 2017
A smooth and aromatic red wine flavours of black fruits and raspberry Tasting Notes This Merlot begins with a nose of enticing plum and blackberry jam aromas layered with hints of vanilla and crème brûlée. This wine is a great complement to grilled meats, spicy pasta dishes and a variety of cheeses. 'The grapes for Gallo Family Vineyards Merlot were harvested at optimum ripeness, which allowed for easy extraction of rich colour and velvety tannins. The winemaker selected aromatic yeast strains and employed a warm fermentation process, which has resulted in a wine with more flavour and fruitier aromatics'. * You will find it in Carry Out in Tralee

I have been honoured and privileged to have been part of so many happy and indeed sad occasions. I have made lifelong friends in the process and I wanted to share my love of photography and the images I shoot with the wider public,” said John. “Naturally Tralee features prominently in my archives. This latest book is a pictorial history of Tralee, Kerry and its people. Photographs to catch the eye includes one of Kerry footballer David Moran as a young child in his fathers arms, photographs of underage football teams in Tralee Town, and aerial view’s of the town, Christmas Day Swims and also a range on business, sports, socials and other functions. Remote working event at BoI Workbench breakfast KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: RULES FOR OPERATING DRONES Question I am buying a drone for my son as a gift this Christmas. What are the rules for flying it? Answer Drones and model aircraft are both considered small unmanned aircraft and the same rules apply to their operation. The rules are set out in the Small Unmanned Aircraft (Drones) and Rockets Order 2015 (SI 563/2015). In June 2019 the European Union published new drone regulations, which will come into force in the coming years. For the time being, drones will continue to be regulated under national legislation.
Pat Carmody from Bank of Ireland ,Castle st says "Superb discussion on hashtag#remoteworking between Breda O'Dwyer and Jennifer Dowling from The Box CoWork in hashtag#Killarney on last Friday's Breakfast Club in Bank of Ireland, Tralee. Huge advances made but a lot to do from both employers and employees perspective. Trust is a big issue but remote working can open up the world to those who love living, working and setting up in regions like hashtag#kerry. Thank you Jennifer, Breda, our audience and my colleagues in BOI for a really engaging morning. Our next #fridaybreakfastclub is on at 8am, December 13th in BOI Workbench, "
All drones weighing 1kg or more must be registered with the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA). This includes the weight of the battery and all attached equipment, including cargo, at the start of its flight. You register your drone online at iaa.ie/drones. Your son must be over 16 years of age to register the drone, otherwise it must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. If your drone weighs 4kg or more, you must complete a drone safety training course before operating it. You must not operate a drone in a negligent or reckless manner which would endanger the life or property of others. You must not operate a drone: • Farther than 300 metres from you or out of your direct line of sight • Over 120 metres above ground level • Over urban areas or over a group of 12 or more people • Within 120 metres of any person, vessel or structure not under your control • Closer than 5 kilometres from an aerodrome • If it will be a hazard to another aircraft in flight • In civil or military controlled airspace or in restricted areas such as prisons If you want to operate your drone outside these limits, you must apply to the IAA for a specific operating permission and complete a drone safety training course. You must have permission from the landowner for take-off and landing. There may be privacy or trespass issues if you operate a drone over private property. While you do not need insurance to operate a drone it is recommended that you are insured and that you complete a drone safety training course. LEARN HOW TO MASTER YOUR MAKEUP BAG, WEDNESDAY 20TH OF NOVEMBER Do you feel like you need to refresh your makeup skills? Want to be able to use the products in your makeup bag to their full potential? Master Your Makeup Bag is the makeup class for you! It will take place on Wednesday, 20th November from 7pm - 9.30pm in Benners Hotel Tralee. There will be Prosecco on arrival and it will be a lovely chilled informative evening. This time of year there are so many events and parties on that we want to look our best for. Master Your Makeup bag will give you the skills, tips and confidence to apply your makeup with what you already have! The class will go through everything from skin prep, how to apply products, product knowledge and tips and tricks to help ageing skin.
During the class there will also be an open floor q&a in which all questions with regards to anything makeup related will be answered. Attendees will also receive a PDF file with product recommendations and extra tips! Rebecca Shortt, the Makeup Artist who will be hosting the class, is a fully qualified Makeup Artist with over 5 years experience. She has hosted Master Classes before, and worked & trained in Dublin, London & Sydney. Rebecca loves making her students feel comfortable and confident when it comes to makeup. “I’m very excited to bring this class to Tralee, I think something like this is much needed so that everyone can feel comfortable doing their own makeup with what they already have.” Tickets are on sale now on rebeccashortt. squarespace.com and are €30. Tickets are limited as I want to keep the class relatively small. Tickets will not be available on the night.

BEXBLAH
FITNESS!
Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read
HELLO STRONG PEOPLE I hope you’re all having a fantastic week.
Last week I talked all about motivation. This week… I’m talking about my current essentials when it comes to working out and my fitness part of my life. Gym Membership: For me, when it comes to exercising and fitness, I love going to the gym. I’ve gotten back into the place where I’m excited to go to the gym and workout. I was missing that feeling for a while. I’m a member of The Tralee Arena gym, and to be honest. It’s probably my favourite gym that I’ve ever been a member of, and I’ve tried many both in Kerry and outside of Kerry. The vibe in The Tralee Arena is always positive and energetic and all the trainers are so helpful and friendly. If you want to try out The Tralee Arena, you can get 10 passes for €70 (€7 per session). Also The Tralee Arena is owned by a woman, an absolute boss, Maeve Frawley. And I love that! Beats Wireless - My wireless headphones are honestly an essential for me for a gym workout. I love absolutely BLARING my music to really get focused for my workout. Root7 Water Bottle - I got a Root7 water bottle in TK MAXX because 1) use a reusable bottle folks, the world is dying & 2) it keeps your water cold for over 24 hours, and I live for ice cold water. Gym gloves - When I lift heavy weights (because I’m strong woo), it really hurts my hands to the point where I have to stop. So I bought gym gloves. Problem solved. Playlist - I recently made a new gym playlist, and a good playlist is key to a good workout in my opinion. I make all my playlists on Spotify and name them really original things such as “gym vibe” lol. So yeah, they’re all my current gym essentials. Hope you enjoyed reading this. Goodbye.
Rebecca

A great Beef Burger tip!
Mixing two meats is always tasty when making beef burgers. Myself, I'd always add pork mince but try experimenting yourself for your best taste! Here its a beef & lamb combination ...quick and easy to make!
GRILLED BEEF-AND-LAMB KÖFTE Serves 6
INGREDIENTS
• • • • • • • • • • •
stale baguette (about 1/3 of a standard baguette), torn into small pieces 1/2 cup hot water 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 1/4 cup minced flat-leaf parsley 1 large egg 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper 1 pound ground beef chuck 1/2 pound ground lamb Olive oil, for brushing Warm pita bread or mashed potatoes, for serving
METHOD In a large bowl, soak the bread in the hot water until absorbed, about 5 minutes. Add the onion, parsley, egg, salt and pepper and knead until combined. Knead in the beef and lamb until combined. Line a large baking sheet with cling film, Using moistened hands, roll the meat mixture into 18 oval patties. Cover and refrigerate the patties for at least 1 hour. Preheat a grill pan. Brush the köfte with olive oil and grill over moderately high heat, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 7 minutes. Serve immediately with warm pita bread or mashed potatoes.

Na Gaeil CLG Gala Race Night On Saturday 30th November Na Gaeil GAA Club are holding an all sponsored Race Night to finance its increasingly expanding Club both on and off the field of play. The proceeds will go towards preparing and kitting out their senior football team that won for the first time the Kerry Premier Junior Football Championship last May. They now play the Cork champions Kilshannig in the Munster Quarter Final in Mallow GAA Grounds on Saturday November 16th which will be a new but welcome expense. The club caters for all teams, over 500 boys and girls from under 6 to senior level and this requires a lot of funding. The club has enjoyed great success with its players having played on Kerry teams, male and female, at all levels over the past number of years. This year Jack Barry and Diarmuid O’Connor played with Kerry in the All Ireland Senior Final in Croke Park.
Devon Burns and Tomás O hAiniféin played in the minor semi final at the same venue with Oisín Maunsell, Enda O’Connor and Jack Sheehanbeing members of the panel. Devon Burns was selected on the Eirgrid Team of the Year for his outstanding performances between the posts for the Kerry Minors. Laura Fitzgerald and Megan O’Connor played with the Kerry Senior Ladies, Mary O’Connell with the Kerry Minors and Sarah Barrett with the Kerry U16 team. Monies raised on the night will also go towards catering for all cultural events in the club including Scór na bPáistí, Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsir, maintaining and upgrading our facilities both indoors and outdoors including a major drainage project on the field which will be starting shortly. Business people and companies out there might like to sponsor a race for €150, place a full page
advertisement in the Race Night Booklet for €100 or a half page advertisement for €60.We ask all our supporters, players and parents to purchase a horse for € 40 from any member of the Race Committee or from the Club Bar over the coming weeks. There will be a prize on the
night for the best dressed lady and gent. There will also be Tote facilities. The night is always a great social occasion in the Club. Be part of it. Enquiries to Race Committee Chairperson Donal Lucey at 0872577729.
Ballymac Nuala Goes on a €62,000 Winning Streak
A Kerry woman won an impressive €62,000 on Winning Streak almost five years after she first appeared on a National Lottery TV game show, last Saturday 9th November.
Ita Neligan from Ballymacelliot, Co Kerry won a hefty €62,000 in cash which dwarfs the €2,000 she won when she took part in the Crack the Code game on the Million Euro Challenge game show on RTE One back in April 2015, then presented by Nicky Byrne. Ita revealed was sitting on the edge of her seat watching Winning Streak two weeks ago as she knew she had a scratch card with three stars in the draw. Four names had been drawn out and she was about to lose hope when the final ticket was pulled from

the drum and her name was read out. She shouted the house down and was jumping around the living room with her husband Richard in celebration.
Ita lives with Richard, a farmer, and the couple have adult sons (Michael and Eoghan) who both live in Auckland, New Zealand. The boys were last home in August when Michael got married in Killarney to his wife Noreen but they were all watching keenly on the RTÉ Player on Saturday evening – even though they were 13 hours ahead. Back in August before the lads returned to Auckland, Ita and Richard promised them that they would spend Christmas 2020 in New Zealand so the first thing Ita is going to do her winnings from the show is to book flights to see her family for this time next year. She also wants to give the family house a
bit of a facelift and do some redecorating in time for Christmas. Richard was cheering her on from the studio alongside five of Ita’s eight sisters, Joan, Bridie (Both twins), Peggy, Anne and Mary, and a number of other close friends. As ever one of the lucky five players will get the chance to spin the wheel and win up to €500,000. An exciting element of the show is that one €100,000 segment will be added to the Grand Prize Wheel every show if less than that amount was won in the previous show, improving players chances to win a

massive prize.Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on Winning Streak and all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language. In total more than €5.4 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 32 years ago. In 2018 alone, more than €228 million was raised; the equivalent of almost €625,000 a day in support for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE JAKE DECIDED TO SEND HIS GOOD FRIEND, THOMAS, A BOUQUET OF FLOWERS TO CELEBRATE THOMAS'S BUSINESS EXPANSION
He called a florist in Thomas' local area and made arrangements- flowers, personalized note, vase, and so forth. A week later, Thomas called Jake, confused. "Jake- what the hell? The florist dropped off a bouquet of lilies with a message that says 'Rest in peace.'" Jake realizes the florist's mistake and calls them to complain. "We deeply apologize, sir, " the florist said. "But hey, it could be worse. Somewhere right now is a grave with colorful flowers and a message that says 'Congratulations on your new location!'"

He knows I have poor eyesight, so He’s fixed it so when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, poof! The light goes on. When I’m done, poof! The light goes off.” “Wow, that’s incredible,” the doctor says. A little later in the day, the doctor calls Larry’s wife. “Bonnie,” he says, “Larry is doing fine! But I had to call you because I’m in awe of his relationship with God. Is it true that he gets up during the night, and poof, the light goes on in the bathroom, and when he’s done, poof, the light goes off?” “Oh sweet Divine ”, exclaims Bonnie. “He’s peeing in the refrigerator again!”

for Irish Red Cross Young Humanitarian Award. The winner will be announced at the Irish Red Cross Humanitarian Awards Ball this Saturday night. Kerry teenager Donal Walsh touched the hearts of the nation when he came to prominence through his writings and appearance on Brendan O’Connor’s The Saturday Night Show. While Donal battled cancer he became very aware of the effect his illness was having on his family and friends. Donal’s experience of fighting to live spurred him on to address, publicly, an issue which he was in a very unique position to comment on: teenage suicide. The #LiveLife Foundation was set up after Donal died, to promote his anti-suicide message and to fundraise. Donal found there were not enough facilities in hospices, in terms of teenage mental health and faith, both of which were a big part of Donal's life. Donal's Foundation has now raised and distributed €500,000 to help develop these facilities. Donal also worked tirelessly and raised €65,000 for the children’s hospital in Crumlin.

T RQU ING CARS ! business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read Get your 42 O PREMIUM ADVERTISING NEW OCTAVIA BIGGER AND BETTER ALL ROUND
When the Skoda Octavia came to Ireland in the 1990s it quickly became a hit in rural areas especially..I reminded a Skoda Ireland man about it at the reveal here in Prague on Monday night of the new generation Octavia. The new Octavia looks like being a seriously good car, when it arrives in Ireland for next July. Nearer that date, I expect that we will get extensive details of specification levels and pricing structure. It's longer, wider and there is more of that important sheep-pen space - sorry, cargo room. There is a big up-shift in style, both inside and out.And there is a big tilt at premium feel throughout. There is an elegance that gives the hatchback a distinctive coupe line. There is a Combi wagon with an elegance that is likely to help keep that version in its place as Europe's top estate. In Ireland, I'll already bet a packet of chocolate buttons that the wagon version will eat into sales of the exceptional Superb estate.Soft touch surfaces and a range of trims for different grades won't diminish the essentials.Better will be the availability of LED matrix headlights which adapt to oncoming night traffic without compromising the driver's visibility. There's more passenger room. Always an Octavia characteristic, it's just getting better. There are changes coming under the bonnet. A new plug-in hybrid option; mild hybrid boosting of fuel economy on other petrol engines.Diesels - they're not going away, you know - which Skoda says now emit a mere 20pc of the level of nitrogen oxides as previously.Remember, it was NOx that brought everyone back to their senses about diesel. The new Octavia will also be getting all the latest driver assist options. Sense is getting in here too; nobody's talking about levels of autonomous driving at the moment. Just keep your hands on the wheel; the car will tell you quickly if you don't.City drivers are seeing the value of Octavia that taxi drivers have long known.A big in-its-class car that is comfortable, reliable and holds its value.Currently the second best-seller in its segment, after Toyota's Corolla, the average owner age is around 48.Skoda buyers in Ireland are teachers, engineers, professionals in law and other disciplines. And, no doubt, those farmers who always know value when they see it.The new Octavia will come with an umbrella, a trend begun by the much-loved large Superb. But it will also come with a brush. No, not for hair. It is to clean your shoes if you happen to be getting into the car from mucky roads. Could be great, too, for cleaning out after the sheep. Indo Motoring
NEW DATA REVEALS MORE INFORMATION FOR NCT USERS
Fresh data from the National Car Testing Service should provide helpful additional information for car owners. The site is now more user-friendly and I found the latest additions easy to follow and to extract information from. There is a make/model breakdown to show how many individual marques were tested and how they fared. Car owners will be interested in this especially if they are thinking of buying a particular model or putting their own through the NCT. That data was previously supplied through the RSA website by way of an Excel sheet. This is the first time you can see the data presented in a more accessible visual fashion. There is also data which shows the pass/fail stats for each individual test centre by month, or year, or indeed how one county compares with another. So basically you have statistics for each centre and for each marque. Meanwhile, the NCT's national statistics show that, to October 31 this year, there have been 598,761 (49.9pc) passes, 521,646 (43.4pc) fail refusals and 80,928 (6.7pc) fail dangerous outcomes. That makes an overall total of 1,201,335. Re-tests came to 608,686, with 92.3pc passing (562,079) and 7.3pc failing again (44,191) and 0.4pc (2,416) being found to be fail dangerous a second time. I NEED TO REPLACE MY AGING ESTATE, WHAT DO YOU THINK TO DACIA'S RANGE OF CARS?
My Skoda Fabia Estate is thirteen years old and is causing me to spend money each time I have an MoT so I'm considering a new car. My budget will allow up to ÂŁ9000 expenditure and I would like your opinion of the Dacia range of cars. I'm used to a sunroof and a large boot. Petrol preferably as I do an average of 5000 miles per year. Asked on 5 November 2019 by angela walker Dacias are good cars. They're a bit basic compared to more mainstream rivals, but they offer very good value for money. If you need the luggage capacity of an estate, a Logan would be a good choice. Your budget will get you an entry-level Access model, but I'd look for a higher-spec nearly-new or pre-registered model (www.honestjohn.co.uk/ best-pre-reg-and-nearly-new-c.../). Other than that, there aren't many small estate cars. It might be worth considering another Fabia - your budget will get you a model from 2016. Friday 15th November 2019

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR IT ALL WORKED OUT WELL BUT IS IT RIGHT? After a nervous few weeks Austin Stacks got the result they were hoping for when East Kerry put in a great performance to defeat the recent kingpins of the County Championships Dr Crokes. In truth the Tralee Black and Amber side knew once the goal went in that they would be representing Kerry in the Munster Championship this Sunday as County Senior Club Champions They will travel to Cork to take on Nemo Rangers who struggled to progress last week. Stacks will be well prepared, or as well prepared as one can be when you are training in limbo, and will no doubt do Kerry proud. Stacks manager Wayne Quillnan said that his side trained as hard as they could as they knew there was the chance from the semi-final stage when there were 3 Divisional teams left and only the Crokes from the clubs. The one thing this game does is give the Stacks a chance of redemption as they had a poor County Championship after defeats to Dingle and East Kerry. The manager said they were disappointed that they didn’t perform and in sport you don’t get second chances but Stacks now have a great opportunity to redeem their season. However while the Stacks will certainly now be delighted with the system we have in Kerry it does raise the question as to how Kerry puts its team forward to Munster. Is it right for the Club Champions to wait for months to see if they will be going forward? While it might not be so bad if the club champions were in the latter stages of the County Championship but the Stacks were out early. Should the system be changed where it’s the last club team standing in the Senior County Championship goes forward to Munster? This would mean a big change in the GAA landscape as there would be no need for a separate club championship. Of course if the new system was brought in with the last club standing going through it would mean on this occasion that the Crokes would be out again this Sunday. Would it be fair to have a team that lost going onto the Munster first round 7 days later? So it will be interesting to see if there is any appetite from the clubs Friday 15th November 2019
to change going forward. But that’s for the future – this Sunday the Black and Amber will travel in force to Pairc Ui Rinn where the latest cross border clash throws in at 1.30 The Captaincy: The other issue that the Garvey’s County Championship has thrown up is the Kerry captaincy. It seems that it is in the hands of the East Kerry Board to nominate the next Kerry captain. However is does seem that Dr Crokes, or some of those in the club, have unearthed a rule that this will pass to the winners of the East Kerry Championship – the O’Donoghue Cup. However this could be the Crokes, depending on how quick they can re-group and then you have the issue that they are not part of the East Kerry Divisional set-up. Furthermore a lot will depend on what kind of a captain does Peter Keane want and how much extra pressure this will place on David Clifford presuming it is him. While we won’t get an answer one can ponder the question as to who would Peter Keane pick if he had the option. If it is David then the question for the Kerry management is do they put in an experienced vice-captain? SECOND BIG GAME FOR TRALEE CLUB: This is also a big weekend for Na Gaeil as they are in the Munster Club JKC quarter final. They will face Kilshannig of Cork in Mallow at 1.30pm. Traditionally the Kerry champions have had a great record in this competition with nine clubs going all the way. However with the way the dates fall in Kerry Na Gaeil have to make sure they are not coming into this game cold as the Cork side have only been free for one weekend and so should be at the pitch of the game from the start. Na Gaeil had gone close to making the breakthrough in Kerry in 2016 and 2018 before this year’s run which saw them winning five games. They were impressive in their final win over St Senan’s 3-14 to 1-10. Kilshannig hit an impressive 22 points in winning the Cork County Championship by 11 points over St James last Sunday. TEAM OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP: From a Tralee point of view well done to Trevor Wallace and Diarmuid O’Connor from St Brendan’s and Cormac Coffey of Kerins O’Rahillys who were named on the Kerryman Team of the Championship.
CLANMAURICE REACH THE ALL IRELAND DECIDER: Clanmaurice are once again flying the flag for camogie in Kerry as they reached the All Ireland Junior Club Camogie final. They defeated Ballymacnab from Armagh 0-11 to 0-03 in their last 4 encounter played in Offaly. Clanmaurice led 0-5 to 0-2 on a tough day for camogie and three early points in the second half put them in control. Clanmaurice will now take on Raharney in the decider. PARNELLS NEWS: There was a great turn-out for the clubs Awards Night with the players enjoying the music from DJ Big and the wonderful selection of baked treats supplied by the parents. There are lots of photos on the clubs website and it also wants to thank its sponsors including Nadur Spa@ Ballygarry House Hotel. There is still some space on the bus for the club’s 2019 Social Night. Places cost e10 and must be confirmed with payment to Ronan Gilsenan (Tech Co located just off the square in Tralee. The bus leaves at 7.30pm on December 7th and will be back by 1pm. This is a great night for the senior hurlers, camogie players, club managers, coaches and parents to enjoy some down-time after the long season. The Nominations and motion forms are available from the club secretary David Brick from secretary.traleeparnells.kerry@gaa. ie and must be returned as soon as possible. The clubs AGM takes place on Friday November 15th at 7.30pm at the Kerins O’Rahillys clubhouse. ST PATS NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 5,7,17 and 30 and the next draw will take place on Sunday night in Skelper Quane’s Bar for a jackpot of e2700. Well done to the senior team who progressed to the final of the St Brendan’s Football Championship following a comprehensive 5-17 to 1-09 win in Blennerville. Much of the damage was done in the first half when they were 3-11 to 1-04 ahead. They will now play their last County League game of the year this Sunday when the take on Firies at home at 2pm. A win will guarantee their Division 3 status so it’s a big game for all involved with the club. The club was delighted for senior player Liam O’Sullivan who was part of the Tralee CBS teams that defeated St Brendan’s to win the Brother Colm Taft Cup (15a Football). The Tralee college won 3-09 to 1-08 in the game played as the curtain raiser to the Garvey’s County Final in Austin Stacks Park last Sunday. NA GAEIL RACING TO RAISE FUNDS FOR VERY BUSY CLUB: Na Gaeil GAA Club are holding an all sponsored Race Night to finance its increasingly expanding Club both on and off the field of play. The proceeds will go towards preparing and kitting out their senior football team that won for the first time the Kerry Premier

Junior Football Championship last May. They now play the Cork champions Kilshannig in the Munster Quarter Final in Mallow GAA Grounds this which will be a new but welcome expense. The club caters for all teams, over 500 boys and girls from under 6 to senior level and this requires a lot of funding. The club has enjoyed great success with its players having played on Kerry teams, male and female, at all levels over the past number of years. The club provided a number of players to Kerry panels on both men’s and women’s sides, Monies raised on the night will also go towards catering for all cultural events in the club including Scór na bPáistí, Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsir, maintaining and upgrading our facilities both indoors and outdoors including a major drainage project on the field which will be starting shortly. There are various options for sponsorship and also a full Tote facility on the night. Anyone interested in coming on board should contact the Race Committee Chair Donal Lucey at 0872577729. KERINS O’RAHILLYS GIRLS CELEBRATING The Kerins O’Rahillys u14 Girls had a double win over Austin Stack’s in Connelly Park on a wet and windy Wednesday night to be crowned North Kerry and Town League champions in a game played in very tough conditions. The rain, hail and even thunder claps didn’t deter both sets of girls who both put in a great effort. After some fantastic football by all the girls in action on the night the ‘Super Narries’ were delighted when their captain lifted the trophies. AUSTIN STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: The club was delighted to have 45 u10 stars of the future who took part in the John Lynch Memorial Tournament. Every one of the players really enjoyed their season in the academy and in this tournament. They now all have the basics to move up to u11’s and u12’s next season. The coaches and mentors involved with the younger age groups also deserve great credit. The club is delighted for all its members who are enjoying success in the college’s football season. The Green CBS put in a great effort against Cork’s Colaiste Chriost Ri to reach the knock-out stages of the Munster Colleges Championships. All those who are interested in representing the club in the various Scor competitions should have been in contact with the club by now. The club will also have a team in the 4 person Scor na nOg quiz with the Kerry final taking place before the stage competitions on Sunday December 14th in Glenbeigh. The winners will qualify for the All Ireland final. If you’d like to spend a few weeks in the Gaeltacht, in the summer, to improve your spoken Irish in preparation for your Group or Leaving Certificate ‘Orals’, you can get financial help from the GAA. MORE COLLEGES NEWS: Mercy Mounthawk lost out to IS Killorglin in the O’Sullivan Cup but had another chance this week when they took on Bandon High School If they have won this game, and we will bring you the result next week, they would keep their hopes alive to reach the Corn Ui Mhuiri play-offs. It was a great day for The Green CBS with their winning of the Br Taft Munster u15 Munster Football Final at Austin Stacks Park. On the hurling front the Green CBS have reached the Munster semi-final. OSCAR TRAYNOR TIE FOR KERRY: Kerry will be hoping for a win in their second Oscar Traynor game away to Clare on Sunday. They drew 0-0 with Limerick Desmond in their first game who then went on to defeat the Limerick District League 4-0. The top two teams from Group C after Round 3 where Kerry will be at home to Limerick & District and Clare will face the Desmond League. Clare lost their opener away to Limerick. On the club front, The Park has reached the third round of the FAI Youths Cup after winning the all Kerry clash away to Fenit. MOTORSPORT IRELAND HAS RELEASED THE CALENDAR FOR 2020. The big news is that Kerry Motor Club’s Kerry Winter Rally will return on November 8 and the Tralee-based club are already at an advanced stage in terms of organisation. The Circuit of Kerry, based at the Rose Hotel, Tralee will run on April 5 while the cartell.ie Rally of the Lakes is scheduled for May 2 and 3. The Rentokil-Initial Killarney Historic rally will revert to its traditional December slot on December 5th with this year’s rally is running on November 30. The full Kerry motorsport calendar is as follows: February 23rd Killarney Autocross, April 5th Circuit of Kerry, May 2nd and 3rd International Rally of Lakes.12th June Killarney Autotest.26 July Killarney Autocross,8thNovember Kerry Winter Rally, 5th December Killarney Historic Car Stages Rally and the 29th of December 2020 the year ends with the Killarney Autocross RALLY AUSTRALIA CANCELLED: With the bush fires having a devastating effect in the New South Wales area of Australia the organisers of the final round of the World Rally Championship. Kerry’s Paul Nagle and Waterford Craig Breen were in the country when the decision was made. It does mean that the Hyundia Motorsport

have been crowned the WRC Manufacturers champions. In truth their lead was big enough going into the event made them firm favourites to take the title. Kieran gets the wild card: There was more good news for Kerry motorsport when Kieran Reen secured the wildcard nomination for the 2019 Motorsport Ireland Young Rally Driver of the Year. Reen had a great year winning Class 16 in every rally he entered as well taking a pair of overall junior wins and being crowned the 2019 Southern 4 Junior Rally Champion. He enjoyed this success in his Honda Civic but hopes to contest the 2020 IRTC in an R2 Car. Reen is one of the 9 nominees hoping to pick up the Billy Coleman award at the Champions of Irish Motorsport Awards Lunch on December 10th. GARVEY’S GO DOWN AWAY TO KEANES The Men’s SuperLeague table is incredibly tight with 6 teams on 15 points including Garvey’s Tralee Warriors who are top of the table on scoring difference. Keanes are now one of the three sides on 12 points following their win over the Tralee side last weekend. It was a cracking game but the Warriors will still be wondering how they were so off- colour in the first half where they were 46-23 down. They fought back and even took the lead but it looked like this effort cost them late on along with losing Paul Dick and Keith Jumper to foul trouble. Credit has to go to Keane’s player/coach Colin O’Reilly and his side for their performance in front of a hugely passionate crowd from both clubs. Coach Pat Price said afterwards that “recovering 23 points is a long road and once your level you are only back at square one. We then had 5 players foul out in the last 8 minutes so it was an even bigger undertaking. We did lose our composure from frustration with calls. It is common in heated derbies but this can’t happen and we need to play through all obstacles with more poise.” Tralee are on the road this weekend when they face Maree. They had a big win over Templeogue two weeks ago but then lost out away to Killester. Garvey’s will be hoping to get back to winning ways are every point will be vital in this seasons SuperLeague. KERRY AIRPORT KABB REPORTS FROM A TRALEE POINT OF VIEW: There were again lots of games in another busy week in the Kerry Airport KABB Divisions. From a Tralee point of view St Brendan’s were too strong for Tralee Imperials in the u18 Boys Division 1, in the Men’s Division 1 Imperials went down by 7 points 59-66 away to St Marys while in the u16 Boys Division 1 Tigers won the Imperials derby in the u16 Division 1. In the Women’s Cup Division 3 TK Vixens beat St Brendan’s 47-39.
In Women’s Division 2 St Brendan’s went down by the narrowest margin 54-53. NEWS FROM THE TRALEE RUGBY CLUB: Tralee Senior Men’s had a tough day at the office away to Thurles yesterday in a midtable head to head game which saw the home side run out easy winners in the end. The game started well for Tralee with both teams demonstrating some strong attacking flair however Thurles pulled away with three tries in the first 30 minutes. Tralee did manage a score just before half time through centre Ben O’Neill but it wasn’t enough as Thurles ran out easy winners in the end. Thurles 54 – Tralee 7 This Sunday the senior men are at home to Charleville with a 2.30pm kick off. Tralee Ladies played away to Thurles in the Division 1 league. It was a tough match between to equally strong teams. Thurles opened the score with a penalty kick, leading 3-0 both teams battled for possession and both defended well to keep each other from scoring. At half time it remained at 3-0 to Thurles. Into the second half and Tralee out off the blocks quickly with a great try from Anna Murphy which Laoise O Driscoll easily converted to put the 7-3 ahead. Tralee played some great rugby and kept Thurles in their own half for a lot of second half, A penalty to Tralee saw O’Driscoll add another 3 points to the score board making it 10-3 and in the closing minutes of the game Ashlea Sheehy crossed the line for Tralee which wasn’t converted. The final score saw Tralee win away at Thurles 15-3. The U14 boys took on Shannon in Coonagh, Co Limerick on Saturday. What a game! Our under 14 boys knew going to Coonagh to play Shannon would be a challenge and it didn’t disappoint. With their average height of over 5 foot 9” the Tralee boys learned quickly that it was going to be a tough game. Shannon started well and attempted to “stick the ball up the jumper” and run through our forwards, however Dylan Corcoran and Luke Fitzgerald soon put an end to that plan. The Tralee lads tackled out of their skins with particular stand out performances from Daniel Kirby on the wing, Padraig Kenny outside Centre and the always reliable Sean Barret. Eventually after ten minutes Shannon broke through and scored their first try. Their height advantage caused us issues in the line out which helped them onto their second try which they converted.
down and scored under the post. Tralee had a number of scoring opportunities in the second half. Our best chance to score came after a well worked back move from Padraig O Halloran and Paddy Lane and one which Luke Fitzgerald joined the back line, however the pass was knocked off his chest. Shannon scored another try in the dying minutes as Tralee pushed for that score. Shannon were fantastic hosts and we were all taken aback when their captain came into our dressing room, to thank us for a great game and said it was one they will remember as they won 17-5. The day was only just beginning as the squad headed to Thomond Park where, following some food in Shannon’s clubhouse they watched the Munster v Ulster game. The boys were also delighted with the half time visit of Munster President and Tralee RFC club member Mike Keane. This Saturday the boys are at home to Bandon with the game kicking off at 12 noon. AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there are the semi-finals of the Abbeydorney Regional Night A1 confined 525 yard’s. The following night there is the fundraiser for Meelin National School plus the semi-finals of the Kingdom Stadium ON3 525 yards. There is also racing on Sunday night with the first of 8 races starting from 6.35pm. COURSING OPENER: If the weather didn’t tell you that winter was in then the start of the coursing season will. The opening meeting of the year took place at Kilflynn where Cruyff took the Denis Leen Memorial Cup. Istimberdown booked his Derby ticket while the Oaks qualifier was won by Lets Get Started. The Ballyheigue Derby Trial Stake was won by the Waterford dog Droopys Artist. This weekend the action is in Ballyduff where the three day meeting starts on Friday with the North Kerry Cup the highlight of the weekend. ON THE GOLF COURSE – CASTLEISLAND GC: At the Castleisland GC the Overall Golfer of the Year for 2019 was won by Stephen Crookes with Paudie Murphy second and Paul Kelliher third. In the Single’s Stableford competition the winner was Declan Murphy. Eddie Dore was second and Declan Raggett third.
After halftime we had the wind and slope and the lads didn’t disappoint. Paddy Lane used his creative right foot to drop a ball into Shannon’s 22 which he chased
