Tusla’s National Fostering Week results in 350 enquiries Tusla - Child and Family Agency has received 350 enquiries from members of the public, including Kerry to date, following the agency’s first ever national public awareness and recruitment drive for new foster carers.Tusla’s National Fostering Week took place from the 14th - 20th October. Since then the agency has received dozens of calls, emails, and online applications on a daily basis from people who are interested in becoming foster carers. The campaign aimed to challenge common misconceptions about foster care eligibility, and encouraged people from all walks of life to consider providing a loving, stable home environment to a vulnerable child. Patricia Finlay, Service Director and national lead for fostering, Tusla commented: “We are deeply grateful that such a large number Friday 29th November 2019
of people have got in touch with Tusla requesting information on how to become a foster carer. We have also been overwhelmed with the support from a range of other stakeholders too. I urge anyone who has an interest in becoming a foster carer to contact us, and we will provide them with details and advice about what fostering entails. Our need for carers is particularly acute in the greater Dublin area, and in larger urban communities. “There are currently 4,254 foster carers in the Republic of Ireland. We are mindful, that in the course of family life, emergencies and incidents happen that require out-ofhours support. To assist foster carers in these situations Tusla now offers emergency out-of-hours phone line
support 365 days a year for Tusla foster carers (1890 800 511). "In addition, the Government recently announced that foster carers will now be entitled to insurance cover from the State in their role as foster carers. Tusla is very keen to ensure that existing, and a new generation of foster carers feel rewarded and valued for the hugely important and positive influence they have on the

Cork /Kerry Healthlink Bus selected as 100k Finalist! Permanent TSB today launched the “Permanent TSB Community Fund” and called on people of Kerry to get involved and vote for their favourite local charity. The fund will see €100k distributed to five worthy Charites across Ireland throughout 2020. Through consultation with some 2,500 colleagues in the Bank, we have shortlisted 25 charities across 5 regions in Ireland and we are encouraging the general public to get involved and vote to select their favourite charity. In this region, the five local charities are:Cork/Kerry Health LinkBus, Mallow Search
and Rescue St Joseph’s Foundation, Breast Cancer Ireland and the Irish Red Cross. Representatives of the 25 charities were on hand in Grafton Street to launch the “Permanent TSB Community Fund” along with Jeremy Masding, Chief Executive, Permanent TSB. Warriors fight off Lions to stay top of League Garvey’s Tralee Warriors maintained their position at the top of the Super League after a hard fought win away to Abbey Seals Dublin Lions in a pulsating and at times thrilling encounter in Colaiste Bride in Clondalkin last Saturday night. The Warriors were made fight every inch of the way after the Lions had dominated proceedings early in the contest and led at the end of the first, second and third quarters before succumbing to a sustained and relentless comeback by the reigning champions. Next up for the Warriors is the Hula Hoops Pat Duffy National Cup Quarter Final showdown with the team that knocked the Warriors out at the semi final stage last year, Pyrobel Killester. It is the meeting of the reigning League and Cup champions and promises to be an absolute thriller. Tip off at the Tralee Sport Complex is at the slightly later time than usual at 8.00pm.(Alan Cantwell , photos Liam Ryan )
by the general public. I would encourage everyone who reads this to get involved and vote for their favourite charity. Voting is open to everybody and it can be done by visiting our website, www.permanenttsb.ie/ responsiblebusiness, logging into our Permanent TSB app or by speaking to Colleagues in any of our 78 branches located in communities around the Country.” The fund has been broken into five regions and each
region has a shortlist of five charities. People are asked to vote for their favourite charity in each region. In the South region, the five community based charities nominated are: Cork/Kerry Health LinkBus, Mallow Search and Rescue St Joseph’s Foundation, Breast Cancer Ireland and the Irish Red Cross. The winner of the vote here will be selected as the charity for the South region for 2020 and will receive the proceeds of the “Permanent TSB Community Fund”.

First Release for Talented Dj And Producer Tony Selmon
Tralee welcome Galway and Donegal to town in the new Year!
“Tony Selmon from Listowel is eagerly awaiting the release of his tune “Hookah” which has been signed to the Lefty Shades Records Label. The track is set to be released Mid-December and it’s his first solo release to date.It went down a storm with festival goers when it was road tested by Yasmin Gardezi at Independence Festival in the Summer. He’s been producing music for about 12 years now after learning all of his production skills from his older Brother Seamus and is now going from strength to strength with his Music. He also plays Live House and Techno sets using Roland Drum machines and Synthesizers fusing both genres and gradually creating his own “sound”
As the Allianz National League GAA fixtures were announced this week , Tralee will welcome two Western Seaboard powerhouses that are Galway and Donegal to town early in the new year . While Kerrys opening game is an away fixture , its a mouthwatering match for all GAA fans as Kerry travel to Croke Park to take on Dublin on Saturday evening January 25th . The Austin Stacks park fixtures are scheduled for Saturday Feb 1st under lights as Galway come to town with new manager Padraig Joyce in charge and again on Sunday March 22nd when Kerry take on Donegal at 2pm . If the buzz in the town is half as good as it was last year as we welcomed Dublin and Mayo , then Tralee should be in for bumper weekends as we roll out the welcome mat !
An Art in the Park – Off the Rails exhibition. We have over 30 members exhibiting at this year’s exhibition which is now in its second year. We are delighted Friday 29th November 2019
that Kerry County Museum has given us their exhibition space to us again to host this exhibition. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Helen O’Carroll, Claudia Kohler and the team of the Museum for all their help. The exhibition will be opened by our Mayor of Tralee Jim Finucane and we would like to send our thanks to him and his colleagues particularly in the Arts Office at Kerry County council for their continued support. Ber Earley, one of our artist exhibiting says of Art in the Park “Art in the Park for me is all about the Spirit of Art! I have found it to be an uplifting event with a great atmosphere. It is a wonderful asset to the town as well as the local art community”. We would also like to thank
Louis Byrne of Spar Oakpark and Caherslee and Tralee Printing Company for their generous donations. We would also like to thank the media platforms that have promoted our work throughout the year and the Public and local businesses who have supported us.

Read this... before you buy anything today! Then pause, think... and then buy! Fact 1: Ireland’s online shopping spend annually is around €5 billion, but as much as 70 per cent of that goes abroad, over half to UK retailers. Fact 2: Retail employs more people in Ireland than any other private sector; over 285,000 people directly, and is one of the biggest contributors to the exchequer. Fact 3: Each adult spending just €20 extra in small local businesses this Christmas would inject over €73 million into communities, with a hugely positive impact on local jobs and the vibrancy of town centres. The message from Green Friday hashtag #greenfriday is to shop locally and support Irish manufacturers which keeps money in circulation in Irish communities and drives the Irish economy.
Why not Give the Gift of Tralee this year! With a Tralee Voucher! This Christmas you can support business in your town by purchasing Tralee Vouchers for your staff or gifting them to friends and family. • Retail and restaurants are a massive Employer in Tralee. Show your support by buying Tralee vouchers. • Employers can reward employees with up to €500 worth of Tralee vouchers TAX FREE. • Tralee Vouchers can now be redeemed in 58 local businesses, shops and supermarkets. Timothy from Killorglin wins SciFest 2019!
Timothy McGrath, a sixth year student from Killorglin Community College, Co Kerry, was one of a record 10,000 students to enter this year’s an all-Ireland competition fostering interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and has been named overall winner of SciFest 2019. Timothy developed a biofilter to combat “dead zones” in oceans and freshwater,He devised a technically-viable way to use halophyte plants, which are noted for their salt tolerance to counteract eutrophication, which occurs when waters become enriched, often due to human activity, and increases the risk of toxic algal blooms. He will represent Ireland at the International Science and Engineering Fair in California next May. Friday 29th November 2019

Charity Air Ambulance... BallyBunion to Limerick Hospital in 15 mins! Ireland’s new charity Air Ambulance service has called for major committed public support to sustain it long into the future and deliver its life saving service across Co. Kerry. The service has been tasked a large number of times to emergency situations in the county since its launch at the end of July and is on track to fly more than 200 missions by the end of this month. This is ahead of its target of 500 missions annually. Irish Community Rapid Response (ICRR) Chief Operations Officer Lynda Stopford said: “The ICRR Air Ambulance can arrive at the majority of locations across Co. Kerry within 15 minutes of being tasked through a 999 / 112 call. Evacuation for example from Ballybunion to Limerick University Hospital would take
less than 15 minutes and can make a huge difference in the outcome for a critically injured patient.” “We cannot emphasize enough the importance of the ICRR Air Ambulance service in rural areas, as it is the difference between life and death, or between injury and life changing injury.” The service is surpassing its call-out targets – and is now asking the public to sign up to support it with committed donations. Ms. Stopford said: “We are looking for 3,000 people across Co. Kerry to sign up to a programme of committed monthly giving. Our campaign is called MISSION POSSIBLE. People can sign up easily at www.icrr.ie and become an ICRR Lifesaver. “We are asking people to commit to donating €10 per month, or just €2.50 per week, less than the cost of a cup of coffee. This support is essential to enable the Air Ambulance service to continue to operate full-time from its base in Rathcool, Co. Cork.” The ICRR Air Ambulance is run in partnership between the charity and the HSE NAS. NAS tasks the service through 112 / 999 calls to its National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and provides the medical crew. However, the helicopter, pilots, air-base and
fuel are being charity funded. “Our service is working very well and being tasked every day. Public support is critical, and we are appealing for strong public and corporate support. The best donor base we can have is a combination of committed public supporters together with major corporates,” Ms Stopford said.

Say No to Illegal Moneylenders - where the lending has no ending “Say No to Illegal Moneylenders” is the message from MABS, Kerry and West Limerick Credit Unions, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and the Gardaí who have come together to highlight the fact that illegal money lending has no ending."
John O Regan, PRO, Chapter 23 Kerry and West Limerick Credit Unions stated "the lead up to Christmas can be a challenging time for a lot of vulnerable people who may be caught up in a cycle of moneylenders. Loan rates can be very high and people can be caught in a vicious cycle of repeat borrowers without ever getting out of debt. Although we are all independent organisations, we have come together to advise people to avoid borrowing from illegal moneylenders in the lead up to Christmas”. Support organisation MABS are on hand to help and offer free financial advice. The credit union can assist with a much lower rate of interest and flexible repayment terms. The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul can also help Friday 29th November 2019
to put practical measures in place and offer services such as meals on wheels, food hampers, fuel poverty, education etc.
Speaking to Eamonn Foley, Kerry MABS “Illegal moneylenders and are not to be confused with legal moneylenders. While legal moneylenders charge very high interest rates they are regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland where legal credit agreements are in place and set code of practice under the Consumer Protection Code for Licensed Moneylenders must be adhered to. Eamonn added “Illegal Moneylenders are different they are people who use their own money to lend to people. What may or may not start off as a gentleman's agreement can end up turning very nasty. Illegal moneylenders are not legal, there are no legal credit agreements in place. In a lot of cases we have heard there may be intimidation, threatening behaviour and harassment. The Gardaí are involved in this campaign to highlight the
l-r Sergeant Grace O Connell, John O Regan, Chapter 23 Kerry and West Limerick Credit Unions, Eamon Foley, MABS, Paddy Kevane, SVP and Helen Courtney Power, Chapter 23 Kerry and West Limerick Credit Unions level of illegal moneylenders activity in Kerry. We would ask people to think twice before getting involved with illegal moneylender activity, if you do go down this route and need support then we would encourage you to contact the gardai confidentiality who will investigate this matter.”

Beauty
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE I hope you’re having a great week.
I know this weekend is Black Friday / Cyber weekend so I said I would feature some makeup items that are more on the expensive side that you might be able to pick up in the sales. As always, all the makeup I use is strictly cruelty free so that’s why I do a lot of my makeup shopping online. I support local where I can but with makeup bits it can be hard.
Cult beauty, Look Fantastic & Cloud10 Beauty are the websites I shop most on for makeup bits as well as Charlotte Tilbury website (which has 30% off)!
there is a sale. Be smart about it.
• Laura Mercier Translucent Powder • Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder • Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb • Stila Magnificent Metals (kitten karma is my favorite shade) • Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray • Ole Henrikesen Banana Bright Primer • Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer • Blank Canvas Cosmetics Makeup Brushes • Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Palettes • Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick • Lilly Lashes in Miami • Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter Black Friday is a great time to stock up your makeup if you know what you want and what you need. There’s no point overspending on things you don’t need just because
Beauty product of the week: This is a product that is new to my beauty routine that I think I will love Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream I got sent this cream as part of The Magic Dreams skincare kit that is in Charlotte Tilbury’s holiday collection. I have been using the Magic Day Cream for over a month now and loving it. (I had been using it at night too)! But the night cream is a total different ball game. The texture is a lot more rich and heavy (which is perfect for a night cream) and I wake up with my skin absolutely GLOWING.
Rebecca Friday 29th November 2019
I’ve only been using it a few days now but I can tell that I’m going to love it. Also this kit would be a fab more luxury gift for someone in your life!

BEXBLAH
FITNESS!
Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read
HELLO STRONG PEOPLE I hope you’re all having a fantastic week.
Last week I did an insane leg day with Brendan in The Tralee Arena… I struggled to walk for a few days. It was tough. So this week I said I’d talk about the best ways to recover after a leg day. Your after-exercise recovery routine has a big impact on your fitness gains and performance and allows you to train much more effectively. REPLACE LOST FLUIDS You lose a lot of fluid during exercise and ideally, you should be replacing it during exercise. Drinking water after exercise is an easy way to boost your recovery. Water supports every metabolic function and nutrient transfer in the body and having plenty of water will improve every bodily function. REST Time is one of the best ways to recover (or heal) from a hard workout. Your body has an amazing capacity to take care of itself if you allow it some time. Resting after a hard workout allows the repair and recovery process to happen at a natural pace.
STRETCH After a tough workout, consider gentle stretching. This is a simple and fast way to help your muscles recover. SLEEP While you sleep, amazing things are taking place in your body. Good quality sleep is essential for anyone who exercises regularly. During sleep, your body produces Growth Hormone which is largely responsible for tissue growth and repair. AVOID EXCESS TRAINING One simple way to recovery faster is by designing a smart workout routine in the first place. Excessive exercise, heavy training at every session or a lack of rest days will limit your fitness gains from exercise and undermine your recovery efforts.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2019
Cider Brined Turkey... now lets go for Christmas!
Well this is the start of my recipes program for Christmas this year! Hope you enjoy and try some of these! Unlike most brined turkeys, this one can be stuffed because the apple-cider brine contains less salt than the typical recipe. Begin brining two days ahead. And believe me, you will taste the difference!
CIDER-BRINED-AND-GLAZED TURKEY BRINE • • • • • •
GLAZE
4 pints apple cider, divided 1 1/2 cups sea salt 1/4 cup whole allspice 8 bay leaves 6 pints cold water 1 20-pound turkey (neck and gizzard reserved)
• • •
GRAVY • • • •
SAGE BROTH • • • •
2 cups chicken broth 1/2 onion, quartered 1 celery stalk, cut into 4 pieces 8 fresh sage leaves
FOR BRINE:
Drain turkey and rinse. Arrange on several layers of paper towels in roasting pan. Refrigerate uncovered overnight.
FOR BROTH:
Simmer all ingredients in large saucepan 30 minutes. Strain sage broth into bowl. Boil cider in saucepan until reduced to 1/4 cup, Sunday 1st December 120 day aged steak in Hennessy And Whiskey tasting Masterclass
3 tablespoons all purpose flour 2 tablespoons fresh sage leaves 1/4 cup brandy or Calvados 1/4 cup whipping cream
about 15 minutes. Whisk in butter. Cool completely.
Simmer 3 pints apple cider, salt, allspice, and bay leaves in large pot 5 minutes, stirring often. Cool completely. Add remaining cider and water. Place turkey in brine. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
FOR GLAZE:
2 cups apple cider 1/2 cup butter 2lb apple and sage stuffing
Set rack at lowest position in oven; preheat to 160c Remove paper towels from roasting pan. Pat main and neck cavities of turkey dry; stuff loosely with stuffing. Place turkey in pan, tuck wings under, and tie legs together loosely. Roast turkey 1 hour. Brush with some of glaze. Roast until beginning to brown, about 1 hour. Cover with foil. Roast until thermometer inserted into thickest part of thigh registers 75c brushing with glaze every 30 minutes and adding up to 1 cup water to pan if drippings begin to burn, about 3 hours longer. Transfer turkey to platter; tent with foil. Let stand 30 minutes.
Pour pan juices into large measuring cup. Spoon off fat. Reserve 3 tablespoons fat and degreased juices. Pour sage broth into roasting pan. Bring to boil, scraping up browned bits. Combine flour, sage leaves, and reserved 3 tablespoons fat in heavy large saucepan; stir over medium heat 1 minute. Whisk in broth from roasting pan and reserved pan juices. Add brandy and cream and boil until gravy thickens slightly, whisking often, about 4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Strain into sauceboat. Serve turkey with gravy.

Christmas Time at Sandy Feet Farm KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: Question I am due to have a baby in three months and have planned to take maternity leave. Am I entitled to any more paid leave to look after the baby? Answer Parent’s leave is a new statutory entitlement for parents that allows each parent 2 weeks paid leave for a child born or adopted on or after 1 November 2019. It aims to let working parents spend more time with their baby or adopted child during the first year. Parent’s leave is different from parental leave. It must be taken within 52 weeks of the birth of a child or in the case of adoption, from the date of placement of the child. If you have enough PRSI contributions, you get a weekly Parent’s Benefit payment of €245 from the Department of Employment and Social Protection during parent’s leave. In contrast, parental leave is unpaid and can be taken up until the child’s 12th birthday. You can take parent’s leave in one 2-week block or in 2 one-week periods. You can visit citizensinformation.ie to find more about parent’s leave.
Visit Santa’s Grotto at Sandy Feet meet some of our animals, post your santa letter or give it to the man himself! Mercy Mounthawk Parents’ Council Launched an Intercultural programme this week. Over the
coming months in the school, parents from different cultures within the school community will host a series of cookery demonstrations and tastings for the other parents/guardians. Events will take place in the Home Economics room in the school so that traditional dishes can be cooked in front of the audience who can then sample the foods. The programme will culminate in an Intercultural Evening within the school. The first event takes place at 7:30pm on Thursday 5th December in the school: ‘A Polish Christmas’ is being hosted by two parents in the school and will be a celebration of traditional Polish recipes and dishes as well as customs and traditions in Poland at Christmas. 2020 will continue with celebrations of the food/culture from Nigeria, Ireland and Pakistan. This project is funded by the Communities Integration Fund.

The woman says, "I can make the boss give me the day off." The man replies, "And how would you do that?" The woman says, "Just wait and see." She then hangs upside-down from the ceiling. The boss comes in and says, "What are you doing?" The woman replies, "I'm a light bulb." The boss then says, "You've been working so much that you've gone crazy. PIT BULL AT THE FUNERAL
A guy is walking down the street and sees a massive funeral procession. At the front of the line is a man with a pit bull, then 2 coffins, followed by 200 people. Curious, he asks the man what happened. "Well," says the man, "My pitbull killed my wife last Thursday, then on Friday, he killed my mother-inlaw." The first man thinks about it for a second, and says, "Would you mind if I borrowed your dog for a couple of days?" The man shrugs, points behind him and says "Get in line."

T RQU ING CARS ! 48 O PREMIUM ADVERTISING Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read SKODA'S 'SIMPLY OLDER, STILL CLEVER' IDEA; NEW BMW MD M ;JAGUAR F-TYPE
Skoda's 'Simply Older, Still Clever' idea to get elderly people back to work is already 'working'. It is designed so people who previously worked in the motor industry can still be involved on a part-time basis. Since the recent launch, 12 of its dealerships around the country have signed up to participate. Four of those have confirmed new starts for January 2020. The other eight outlets either have people in mind, or somebody almost locked in. It's working. * BMW's new managing director for Ireland from January 1 will be Kevin Davidson He succeeds Paulo Alves, who headed up the company here for five years and who returns to the UK as director of BMW Motorrad UK and Ireland. Mr Davidson has many years experience in the industry. His most recent role was chief of retailer development at BMW Group UK. He has been with the company since 1991 and held a number of senior management positions including financial services, and aftersales director BMW Group Canada. A native of Scotland, he has a degree in economic policy and an MBA from the University of Surrey. * Jaguar's revised F-Type sports car - one of my all-time favourites - will be revealed on Monday. Due on sale early next year, it will benefit from technology upgrades and fresh styling. Reports suggest the launch will coincide with some major 'event'.(indo motoring)
VIRTUAL REALITY GIVES STUDENTS FATAL CAR CRASH 'REAL' VIEW
Students will be able to experience a realistic road crash through virtual reality (VR) in a bid to teach them about road safety.Aviva will launch a new partnership with Dublin City Council this week which will offer students the opportunity to experience a real-life seven-minute fatal road crash through VR technology. The students will be the front-seat passenger in the simulated accident, which is a part of 'Your Life, Your Choice', the new nationwide road safety training programme from Aviva in partnership with county councils and An Garda Síochána. Students will experience what it is like to come face to face with a road crash in a 360-degree virtual video, which will be played through VR headsets. The initiative will aim to teach secondary school students about the importance of road safety. The students will witness many of the dangerous behaviours and factors associated with young drivers involved in serious collisions, including mobile phone use, speed, stopping distance, distraction and rural roads. The viewer will then witness the immediate aftermath of a serious incident from when first responders arrive on the scene. It is aimed at younger drivers who are among the most vulnerable road-users as passenger fatalities are highest among those aged 16 to 25.The programme has been rolled out in Carlow and Cork, and now students from Trinity Comprehensive School in Ballymun will get to use the technology. Students will hear the heartbreaking story of Irish Road Victims Association representative Leo Lieghio, who will speak about the loss of his daughter Marsia (16) in 2005.
SHOULD I REPLACE MY DIESEL CAR WITH A HYBRID OR ELECTRIC VEHICLE AND, IF SO, WHICH ONE?
I own a Skoda Yeti diesel, which I have used for towing a caravan for the past six years. Due to our advancing years, we have decided to give up caravanning and no longer need a diesel car. We will probably pass the Yeti onto a family member and are now in the position of trying to decide on a replacement, but there is no rush. In the electric car range, the Kia e-Niro looks to be the front runner, but are like the proverbial hen's teeth. The Jaguar I-Pace is lovely but out of my price bracket. We need a car that can do mainly local journeys but can also cope with a regular 130 mile trip to Cumbria but (hopefully) without an hour's stop to charge it. Should I hang onto the Yeti for a while and wait for a wider choice of electric cars or can you suggest a suitable alternative such as a hybrid? Asked on 5 November 2019 by Ron A Kia e-Niro sounds like a good choice and should easily be able to cover a 130 mile trip to Cumbria but, like you say, actually getting one is tricky. A Hyundai Ioniq Electric would be another strong choice, with an official range of 194 miles. Also consider the MG ZS EV - it's an affordable electric crossover, officially capable of covering 163 miles on a full charge. Alternatively, it might be worth waiting for the new Volkswagen ID.3, which will go on sale next year

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR TIPP SIDE STAND IN NA GAEIL’S WAY OF A MUNSTER TITLE: The games are coming at a rapid rate for Na Gaeil but the players would not want it any other way. Following a one-sided win over Michael Cusack’ s they will travel to Mallow on December 8th to face Tipperary’s Mullinahone in the Munster Junior Cup final. This is expected to be a tougher encounter than their quarter final win last Sunday in Tralee when they overwhelmed the Clare side. In truth the game was only tight for the first five minutes before Na Gaeil found their range and with two quick goals before half time from Diarmuid O’Connor and Jamie Lowhan the game was effectively over at 2-08 to 0-00. Dan Goggin hit the net in the second half as the Tralee side ran out 3-20 to 0-02 point winners. From the Na Gaeil point of view they can only beat the challenge that is in front of them and also it did give the management a chance to run their bench. The fact the Kerry clubs in the Junior and Intermediate are of a higher quality than in a lot of counties is not the players fault. A Munster title for the club would be a lovely way to round off the year and they won’t be looking any further ahead than the Mullinahone challenge. A big crowd will be heading to Mallow on Sunday week in the hope bringing the trophy back to the club. Supporters of the club are delighted to see their side performing at this level and there should be plenty of their colours on show over the next week. If you haven’t gotten yours them Na Gaeil have flags, car flags and children’s wristbands on sale. Everyone in the Tralee Advertiser wishes the club all the best for the big game. CLUB NOTES – NA GAEIL Staying with Na Gaeil and with a run to the Munster final and hopefully beyond comes increased costs. And this Saturday night, November 30th, they are holding their Annual Race Night. On the night there will be the usual tote facilities etc. Sponsorship options are still available for the Race Night. The clubs AGM will be held in the clubhouse on Friday December 6th at 8pm and all members are welcome to attend. The AGM of the Coiste na nOg section of the club will take place on December 12th at 8pm also in the clubhouse. The training continues for the Fir na Gaeil on Monday and Friday nights and for Mna na Gaeil on Friday 29th November 2019
Wednesday and Sundays. There was no winner of the Lotto from the number drawn 3,11,12 and 14 and the next jackpot will be e2700 with the draw taking place on Tuesday nights. BOARD FINAL TONIGHT: Tonight, Friday night November 29th , sees the final of the St Brendan’ s Board Championship takes place. The game sees Na Gaeil take on St Pat’s Blennerville at 7.30pm in Austin Stack Park. FANCY BEING A REFEREE: The GAA are holding a Referee Foundation Course this weekend in the Centre of Excellence in Currans. The course starts at 7.30pm and a third night will take place in early January. BALLYMACELLIGOTT GAA NEWS: The AGM of the Ballymac GAA club takes place on Sunday December 1st at 2pm in the clubhouse. There are a number of election taking place and some important motions down for decision so all members are asked to attend. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 2,6,10 and 18 and the next jackpot was e5600. Well done to the Senior Ladies who are still celebrating their recent North Kerry League Division 1 Plate final win. They defeated Abbeydorney 2-12 to 1-05 and the club thanks the players and management James Godley and Patrick White for all their efforts over the season. The u16 girls are also celebrating as they defeated Austin Stacks in their North Kerry Division 1 Shield Final with Emily O’Brien picking up the trophy on behalf of her team. CAMOGIE NAIL BITER ENDS ALL SQUARE: There was drama right to the last second in the Clanmaurice versus Raharney All Ireland Junior Club camogie final. The crowd at McDonagh Park in Nenagh left happy after a last ditch equaliser from Jessica Fitzell in the fifth minute of injury time means the sides will have to do it all again this Sunday. The Kerry girls were rocked by an early goal but showed great composure to hit the next five points in a row. They then survived a penalty when Aoife Fitzgerald made the save and Sarah Murphy cleared the ball. Clanmaurice added two more points without reply to lead 0-07 to 1-0 at the half. Raharney need a big start to the second half and were helped by a
second goal to put them back into the game. As the game entered the final stages the sides were level but in the second minute of injury time their opponents went ahead and looked set for victory. However there was still the drama of the equaliser when Fitzell scoring a cracking point from distance when her effort from 50 metres out split the posts. The two sides will meet again this Sunday for what should be another close encounter. PARNELLS NEWS: The strength of hurling in Tralee is shown yet again when 3 schools are seeking places in the Last 4 of the Munster GAA Post Primary Schools E competition. There are a number of the clubs players playing with all three Schools. The Munster Under 19 E hurling Cup competition began in the 2017/18 season and has been very influential in the development of the game in the town and surrounding areas. Hopefully this year will be the same as last when two Tralee schools contested the final. On that occasion it was CBS The Green who defeated Mercy Mounthawk. CBS and the inaugural winners Mount Sion of Waterford are still in contention at the semifinal stage this year. Mounthawk are due to play Waterpark College Waterford today, Friday at 12.30 while Tralee CBS are away to Colaiste Mhuire Cobh on Wednesday December 4th at 12.30. Gaelcholaiste Tralee will have their quarter final played as we go to print. The clubs wishes Clanmaurice all the best in their All Ireland reply this Sunday. It’s only a few nights away from the annual night out when the adults in the club head out on a mystery tour. Bookings should have been made by now and the bus will leave Tralee at 7.30pm and return at 1pm. Contact the club if you are intending to go and haven’t booked. The club saw great numbers and enthusiasm as it started into our 2019 winter Strength and Conditioning Programme. They welcomed players (including new adults, and juveniles born 2006 or earlier), coaches and parents, in partnership with Coach Diarmuid Brennan, Mondays and Fridays, beginning November 18 and 22, Sports Hall @ CBS The Green. Judging by some of the online feedback in some of the social channels, those on the senior side of 40 found it a bit more difficult to cope with the muscles that did not want to climb stairs or take on to much strenuous challenges in the days after session 1. But they are assured that it gets easier each week and will all be worth it. AUSTIN STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: The club is delighted to have its solo singer through to the county final. Ella Nic Gabhann will compete on the 14th of November. The 4 person table quiz team will be in action before the stage finals in Glenbeigh on the 14th. The quiz begins at 11.30am with the finals going through to the All Ireland

final. The club had a number of hurlers on the Green team that are into the next round in Munster. The footballers, with a number of the Black and Amber players in action, have qualified for the quarter final of the Munster Colleges Senior Championship – the Corn Ui Mhuiri. There was disappointment for Mercy Mounthawk when the boys just missed out on the knock-out stages of the same competition. The club was delighted to see so many members who attended the November Mass. It is a lovely way to remember the deceased members and friends from the club. The AGM of the Tralee Town Board will take place on December 4th at the Kerins O’Rahillys club while the AGM of the senior section of the club will be held at 12pm on the 15th in the clubhouse. The AGM of the juvenile section of the club will be held on January 7th. The juvenile section of the club is looking forward to supporting the players and management as they prepare for the County League semi-final against Dingle. KERINS O’RAHILYS NEWS: The AGM of the senior club will take place in the clubhouse tonight Friday November 29th starting at 7.30pm. There will be a number of important motions up for discussion. The Club is currently competing with other clubs for the sole rights to sell our Club Lotto tickets in Rock Street Post Office from April 2020. To help the club win this competition, all you have to do is mention your support for Kerins O’Rahillys when you make any financial transaction in Rock Street Post Office and you will collect points for the club. Once a card is full give to the management and start another if you can. The club Chairman, Haulie Kerins, wishes to express his thanks to all those who helped out with the recent church gate collection, especially those who covered more than one mass. This enabled us to cover off all parish masses. The club recently received confirmation of a grant of €24,481 under the Sports Capital Grant Programme which will enable us to commence fencing, floodlighting and exercise track works at our Strand Road pitch. This is most welcome and the Kerins O'Rahillys club wish to thank Minister Brendan Griffin and his officials at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, along with local public representatives for their assistance. A great night was had by all at the Boys U12, U14 and U16s awards night. Well done to all the parents and coaches for their support and commitment all year. The players were delighted to meet Barry John Keane who presented the awards. The U12s were winners of the Central Region. Our U14s won the Town League and the U16s won both Town League and County League. Most improved player awards: U12 winner was Nick Lacey, U14 winner was Cian Moran and for the U16’s

Members are asked to note the change of date for the Juvenile and Senior AGM’s which will now take place in the Blennerville National School this Sunday. These are important meetings and all interested parties should attend. The club members will be out in force tonight, Friday November 29th to cheer on the senior in the local Board’s championship final. All roads lead to Austin Stack Park for a 7.30pm throw-in. St Pats Christmas Party for U6, U8s & siblings is on Friday 13th December 5.30-7.30pm in Blennerville NS hall. There will be lots of treats, games and party bags as well as the disco for the children. Parents are asked to RSVP by Friday December 6th to Fiona on 0860588392and parents are asked to note that there will be a e2 contribution on the night. WARRIORS HOLD OFF THE LIONS TO STAY ON TOP: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors maintained their position at the top of the Super League after a hard fought win away to Abbey Seals Dublin Lions in a pulsating and at times thrilling encounter in Colaiste Bride in Clondalkin last Saturday night. The Warriors were made fight every inch of the way after the Lions had dominated proceedings early in the contest and led at the end of the first, second and third quarters before succumbing to a sustained and relentless comeback by the reigning champions. The Lions jumped put to a 10-1 start and were 31-13 ahead at the end of the first quarter. The home side were belying their place at the bottom of the table and soon were 22 up. The Warriors fought back a little and at the break the Lions led 43-37. With the Warriors still down by 10 entering the third quarter 61-51 a win looked unlikely but they are not the champions for nothing. A huge third quarter where they dug deep eventually saw them wipe out the deficit and lead by 5 down the stretch. The Lions closed to 2 but Paul Dick had the last word and wrapped up a come from behind win that could prove to be very valuable at the end of the season. Jonathan Lawton led the scoring for the Tralee side with 26 followed by Paul Dick on 20 and Epoin Quigley with14.

Warriors PRO Alan Cantwell says the whole organisation is looking forward to another cracker this weekend. “It is another night of Cup drama in the Complex this Saturday night with the Hula Hoops Pat Duffy National Cup Quarter Final showdown with the team that knocked the Warriors out at the semi- final stage last year, Pyrobel Killester. “This is the meeting of the reigning League and Cup champions and promises to be an absolute thriller. Tip off at the Tralee Sport Complex is at the slightly later time than usual at 8.00pm but the same advice holds – come early if you want a seat.” TRALEE RUGBY CLUB NEWS:
Tralee Ladies had a good home win on Sunday 24th November in the Division 1 league in very cold wet conditions. Muirne Wall opened the scoring with a try on 7 minutes but it wasn’t converted. A few minutes later Riona Kennedy crossed the line but again the conversion was missed. The Shannon ladies fought back with a converted try of their own to close the gap to 10 points to 7 but the Tralee ladies got the vital next score. Ashlea Sheehy broke the line to score and this time Muirne Wall slotted over the conversion to lead Tralee ahead 17-7 at the half. Into the second half and Tralee had to defend well as the conditions worsened and then on the break Vanessa Dineen went over to put another 5 points on the board. This seemed to swing the game in favour of Tralee and as the opposition tired Dineen crossed for another try to leave Tralee comfortably ahead 34-7. Tralee-Listowel U16s took on Rugbaí Corca Dhuibne in Dingle on Saturday in Conference 2 of the Munster Club U16s competition. The home team have a strong team this year and started well. They were rewarded for a dominant first half performance by a 28-0 half time lead. Tralee-Listowel boys regrouped at half time and responded with two good tries from Greg Fitzgerald and Miko Buja, both converted. Unfortunately all the damage was done in the first half and the final score was 40-14 to the hosts. The next fixture for the U16’s is at home to Castleisland on Sunday 1st December at 11:00. ALL EYES ON THE LATEST HISTORIC RALLY: Rally fans are looking forward to the biggest Rentokil-Initial Killarney Historic Rally ever with some of the sport’s top names set to start the event this Saturday. Organisers the Killarney and District Motor Club have attracted a record entry, with over 180 crews vying for the 160
available starting places. Last year’s winner Owen Murphy has switched from his eventwinning Talbot Sunbeam and will start in a Ford Escort Mk2. Rally of the Lakes winners Craig Breen and Paul Nagle will take the challenge to Murphy and they will field another Escort. Entries have come from all over Ireland, England, the Isle of Man and Wales. The inclusion of Belgian champion Paul Lietaer in an Opel Manta 400 and Rathmore native Jack Kelleher who is returning from his Australia base shows the rally is really an international event in all but name. Local drivers are well represented too with former winner Mark Falvey set to return in his exBilly Coleman Ford Escort Mk1 and Todd Falvey fielding another MK2 variation. Kerry co-driver’s contesting the rally include Tommy Commane who is alongside Louth’s Phillip McKibben in an Escort Mk1 and Tony McCarthy who is on pace note duty for James Hall in an Audi Coupe Quattro. Alan Ring will give his newly built BMW M3 its first taste of home roads while former Rally of the Lakes national rally winner Rob Duggan will compete in the historic rally proper for the first time in a hired Escort.London-based Listowel man Ray Hillard has his Escort Mk1 fully repaired since his Rally of the Lakes shunt. Killarney native Mick Smith is another making the trip from the UK capital and he will drive the same Chrysler Avenger he used on the Rally of the Lakes earlier this year. Denis Dowling will drive his Ford Escort M2 while Pat Looney, from Killcumin, makes a welcome return in his MK1. Diarmuid Lynch, better known for his co-driving skill will be behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper S. Aidan Kennedy will drive a similar Mini. Other big names include Dubliner Robert Barrable who has entered the rally in a historic specification Ford Escort, a massive change from the fourwheel-drive machinery he usually drives. An equally tantalising Modified rally is also blessed with a star-studded entry list. Former multiple British Champion Jason Pritchard, on his Killarney debut, will be one of the top seeds in this section and his main opposition will come from Donegal’s Damien Tourish and Cavan’s Garry Kiernan. Former Rally of the Lakes winner, Darragh O’Riordan makes a rare outing in a modified event but can't be ruled out of overall contention either. He will use another Escort for the rally. Locals contesting this section include Charlie Hickey, Denis Hickey, Aidan Buckley, Andrew Duggan, Tadgh O’Sullivan and Colin O’Donoghue in a fleet of Escorts.

Kevin O’Donoghue will drive his BMW M3 on the event. The crew will tackle 8 stages with Molls Gap, Beallaghbeema and Shanara being run twice starting on the famous Gap from 8am. Following the final service at the service park in Leibherr thr cars head for Rockfield and Coolick with the first car expected on the finish ramp at the Gleneagle around 3.30. There was more good news for rallying this week when it was confirmed that Triton Showers will continue as the title sponsors of the National Rally Championship. MD Kevin Barrett confirmed the sponsorship for the 6th year in a row. Barrett of course was born in North Kerry and is a regular competitor on the local rallies. A GOOD DAY IN AND OUT OF THE WATER:
Huge congratulations to everyone who endured the wet and freezing cold last Sunday for The Polar Plunge in aid of Special Olympics as part of the Tralee Bay Swimming Club Winter Series. A grand total of 614 euro was collected on the day which was the biggest collection in Munster. They will do it all again next Sunday at 11 for Round 7 of The Turkey Series. With the biggest day in the outdoor swimming calendar just a month away An Post has unveiled its 2019 Christmas stamp collection with this year’s designs showing the charitable activities that mean the most to Irish people. According to research conducted by An Post, 55% of responders said that they take part in a polar swim on Christmas morning, with the annual festive swim in Salthill, Co Galway featuring on one of this year’s colourful Christmas stamps. In fairness to those involved in Fenit its one of the biggest of the day and maybe next year the Kerry venue can feature on the stamp! ON THE GREEN – TRALEE GOLF CLUB: In the most recent competition the winner was Diarmuid McElligott with Gerard Power second and Danny Leen third. Barry Moynihan was 4th and Rory Hill 5th. In the Ladies 9 hole re-entry Karen Gearon was the winner from Mary Dowling. In the Christmas Hamper Claire Benner was the winner from Kathleen Finnegan with Anita Lynch.
