Keep your Business in Tralee and keep Tralee in Business!
Hello everyone!
& welcome back to 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world of social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!
WHAT IS A STRATEGY CALL HELLO! I'm back again. This week we are going to talk about... Strategy calls! I offer strategy calls as a service and I have had quite a few people availing of them so far in 2022, but I have also had a few people messaging and emailing me wondering what they are. The strategy calls that I offer are 1.5hrs long, and this is what these calls consist of: Making little tweaks to your current social media pages, be that your name, SEO of you bio, links. highlights, following count, profile picture etc. Figuring out what the underlying tone of your socials is (what you want all of your content to reflect) Defining your content pillars - what all the content you post relates to. Your community and engagement. How to use certain features to work for YOU. eg. reels, story posts, tiktoks, carousel posts, lives etc. Inside information on social media (how often to post, when, etc) Once we have done all of that we will come up with a content plan that is realistic for you, your social media accounts and your brand. After the call you will get an email including notes and a content calendar which highlights everything that your content should be based around. This will allow you to have more creativity and authenticity when it comes to social media, as all of the strategic work and branding will be done for you. Some people thrive straight away after one call, while others may need the accountability of weekly, bi-weekly or monthly check ins. It honestly depends on the person as everyone's needs are so different. You can tailor the strategy call to you and your needs, we can focus on one aspect of social media, your brand, content brainstorming, different platforms whatever is most relevant to you!
For 2022 I am expanding my Social Media Mentorship services, in which I will help you with everything you want to know about Social Media. I am offering one off calls or packages of 4x or more - email createtralee@gmail.com or message @create.socialmedia on Instagram for more info, pricing and availability. ''
For more information on what I do or if you are interested in any of my social media service: I offer 1:1 consultation calls, video editing, graphic design and more, you can follow @create.socialmedia on instagram or email me: createtralee@gmail.com to book a call!

Cara Credit Union at the heart of the local community. There was a lot of love in the air on Valentine’s Day as 6 local groups were awarded €18,000 by Cara Credit Union. The credit union’s Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards were set up in 2017 to support community based projects initiated by organisations within the credit union’s common bond. To date 33 organisations in Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff and Causeway have benefited from this award, totalling €104,000. The most recent groups to benefit were, Ardfert National School, St. Bridget’s Basketball Club, Foodshare Kerry, Causeway Community Action Group, Reeks District Tourism Group and St. Brendan’s Park F.C. Speaking to Pa Laide, CEO of Cara Credit Union, “Cara Credit Union is very conscious of our credit union ethos. One way of rewarding the trust and loyalty we receive from our members is by supporting projects that can help build
better communities, and add value throughout our common bond in Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff and Causeway.” Pa said “It is important to highlight that the money allocated to the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards comes from the income we earn from our loans. We would encourage any member or potential member who needs a loan to talk to us. Not only do our loans help our members to do whatever they need to do but they also help the local community as the money is spent locally and in return we at Cara Credit Union can distribute funds to worthy community projects like the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards. As a not for profit financial cooperative, the more money we can earn in lending, the more money we can give back to our members and our local community. If you would like to find out more about
Cara Credit Union’s current account and globally accepted Mastercard Debit Card or if you need a loan, call our Member Services Centre or pop into one of our Branches in Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff and Causeway or see our website.” With the recent news of the closures of branches of other financial institutions we are once again reminded of the
importance of the Credit Union sector. Credit Unions, as established financially inclusive co-operatives, exist solely to meet the needs of their members. The next round of the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards are now open until March 31st 2022. See www. caracreditunion.ie for more.
Austin Stacks Golf Classic Launch Rockie golfers and supporters gathered in The Brogue Inn on Sunday evening for the launch of the 2022 Austin Stacks Golf Classic which takes place on Friday 25th March in Tralee Golf Club. Speaking at the launch, Austin Stacks Chairman Shane Lynch said that “The Rock has a long and storied history of golf fundraising events and this year’s edition promises to be our biggest yet. As we emerge from Covid restrictions, the Golf Classic provides our fabulous supporters with a fantastic day out at the magnificent Barrow links course and

an opportunity to celebrate our Senior Team’s hugely successful 2021 campaign which culminated in our 13th County Championship title and the return of the Bishop Moynihan Cup to the Rock”. Shane remarked that this year’s Golf Classic is a hugely important part of Austin Stacks’ fundraising campaign to generate muchneeded finances required for the club’s pitch upgrade programme and to alleviate the costs of the Senior Team’s County and Munster Championship campaigns. He added: “like all GAA clubs, our fundraising capability was adversely impacted by the Pandemic and we now call on all our supporters and on keen golfers in the Kingdom and beyond to get behind this fabulous event and help Austin Stacks finance the next wave of development in the club”. At the launch, which was attended by several of the County Championship winning team, Shane thanked the club’s Golf Classic committee
who have worked tirelessly over the past number of months to make the event a reality, and also to Tralee Golf Club for hosting the event. In addition to playing one of the best links courses in the world, teams of four will

I am going to Portugal in August and want to feel and look good about by body as I bask in the sun. My problem area is my tummy and I just want to feel good in my skin again. I heard the CHRC had a treatment for the tummy. Is it sore and how many treatments will I need? Leona.

Hi Leona, The thought of a sun holiday after so long, sounds amazing! So many people are interested in an alternative to fat reduction without surgery. We offer a non-invasive treatment with no downtime. We use Venus Bliss (we are the exclusive provider in Ireland), which uses a diode laser to reduce fat via “lipolysis”. This is a thermally induced activity, allowing energy to safely penetrate deep below the skin’s surface. This effectively heats the fat, thus breaking it down. The number of treatments will depend on the individual; many people notice a difference after just one. Optimal results will be seen three to six months after completing your treatments so you are right to get in early on this to be ready for August! A one to one consultation is key to creating a bespoke treatment package for you. The treatment lasts approximately 25 minutes and fat reduction should be performed 4-6 weeks apart. There is no downtime and no physical restrictions that you need to worry about. You can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. Many people fit in their treatment during their lunchtime. The treatment is very comfortable and you will feel a heat sensation that can last after the treatment is over, this is the process still working. Water is recommended after, as is some exercise and a gentle massage of the area.

AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS... from The Tralee Advertiser Team and Tralee Chamber Alliance
Forget Fifty Shades of Grey. We want to be Fifty Shades Greener! By Georgie Downes THIS WEEK’S GOOD NEWS story comes to you courtesy of The Rose Hotel who have been showing up for the environment big-style lately. They recently announced further measures to reduce their carbon footprint, including ditching plastic refuse bags in favour of biodegradable Eco Sacks and swapping all plastic gloves in the kitchen for compostable ones. Previously, they did away with plastic straws and now, even their napkins are compostable. At a time when consumers are faced with a tsunami of one-use plastic products foisted upon them, this is a massively progressive move and everyone here at The Chamber supports it. The Rose Hotel began their leaner, greener journey in 2019 and was one of the first hotels in Kerry to be awarded a Fifty Shades Greener certificate. “Being environmentally aware is so important, so we’re happy and excited to do our bit to reduce waste. It will only have positive results for all of us down the line,” head chef
Odran Lucey tells me, and he should know; he’s the man tasked with spearheading the campaign to cut the hotel’s carbon footprint by 5% this year, and possibly even more. “The kitchen of any hotel generates a lot of waste, but I’m very focused on it now. We’re all motivated to recycle as much as possible. It’s even spilled into my home life. Before, my recycle bin took two weeks to fill and my refuse bin took one. Now it’s the other way around.” Ordan tells me. “Covid was tough because we were restrained by HSE protocols around plastic. Nothing could be shared so things had to be served in individual little bits of packaging like salt, sugar, cream, things like that. But now the restrictions have lifted, we’re pleased to serve all condiments like jams and butter and sauces in ramakin dishes, sugar is loose in a bowl and milk is poured from a jug.” Hallelujah. The hotel is showing its green credentials through other measures too; water
conversation restrictors have been put in to the showers, reducing water consumption by 33% per minute and eco toilet flushers have been installed in the bedrooms, while new aerators have been fitted to all bathroom taps. They have also teamed up with Shanahan’s Garden Centre in Farrenfore who take their used coffee grinds and give it away to their customers to improve the soil. They even show them how to use
it. That’s joined-up thinking at its best. Ordan is taking his sustainable journey further by enrolling in a Level 6 Fifty Shades Greener Programme. The aim of the programme is to provide knowledge and skills to the hospitality industry so they can control and reduce their waste and energy consumption. The future is definitely looking brighter at The Rose Hotel.

Keep your Business in Tralee and keep Tralee in Business!
‘Generosity’ as well as the Car, was the Real star of the Car Show The generosity of spectators and exhibitors was the highlight of a fundraising car show in Tralee on Sunday last. Members of Kerry Motor Club organised the show to raise funds for member James Quinlan who suffered a brain haemorrhage in New York late last year. The Waterville man remains in intensive care in a Manhattan Hospital and the club ran Sunday’s fundraiser to help offset some of the medical bills he faces. An estimated 250 cars lined the Brandon Car Park in Tralee on Sunday afternoon. Each driver of a show car donated to the fund while members of the public also paid large sums of money to see the cars. While no exact figure has been reached just yet it is estimated that between €15,000 and €20,000 was collected on the day. The oldest car on show was a 1922 Peugeot Type One-63. Owner Michael Crean from
Camp spent the last 20 years restoring the car and it made its first public appearance on Sunday. “It turned 100 years old on February 10,” he said. “I just love French cars. I found the chassis in Kildare and have been working on it for 20 years.” Richard Bono and Brendan Farmer showed off a 90-yearold Riley – the car was bought brand new by Richard’s brother law in London in 1932. Several star attractions at the show traced almost the entire history of the World Rally Championship. These included a Ford Focus World Rally Car from the Mid-2000s, a Ford Escort Cosworth from the 1990s and an ex-Billy Coleman Ford Escort Mk2 from the 1970s. Kerry’s oldest rally car, a 1953 DKW was on show while one of the special guests at the show was current World
Rally Championship star, Paul Nagle. Local motorcycle racers displayed the bikes they usually race at Mondello Park.
Quinlan family. “I am blown away by the generosity of the people who came to support the show,” he said.
Every club in the county, including promoters Kerry Motor Club, Killarney and District Motor Club, Kingdom Veteran, Vintage and Classic Car Club and Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club displayed cars. Other clubs represented at the show included Birr and District Automobile Club, Galway Motor Club. Limerick Motor Club, Cork Motor Club and Clare Motor Club. “The organising team have so many to thank, from people who displayed cars, the setup crews led by Brendan Shanahan, spot prize sponsors, neighbouring clubs who supplied cars and marshalls, it exceeded expectations and we had a great day so a huge thank you to anyone who helped in any small way.” https://gofund.me/2d8d612a
Over €29 million available for Kerry Roadworks! Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley has welcomed the announcement that €29,564,872 has been granted to Kerry Co Council under the 2022 investment programme for regional and local roads. An increase of 4% on last year, this year’s overall total of €597m in government funding will allow for approximately 3,100kms of roads to be maintained and 2,550kms to be strengthened across Ireland. This tranche of funding will be used to provide maintenance and restoration works to a number of key regional and local road networks in Kerry. Over 13 million will be specifically invested in the improvement and restoration of regional and local roads with a further €2 million being

set aside for maintenance works.
Other projects covered by the scheme include bridge rehabilitation, climate change adaptation and safety improvement works. Under the programme the Dale road (R556) has been awarded €2,200,000 for specific improvements while €400,000 has been made available for the pavement and footpath widening on Quill St to John Joe Sheehy Road. A further €1,490, 000 will be made available for the development of the Tralee Northern Relief Road. Minister Foley said: “I welcome this funding which will provide essential maintenance and improvement works to the regional and local road network. The upkeep
of our rural and regional road network is vital for the connectivity of communities in Kerry. This funding will also provide for restoration

GROWN-UP CHICKEN NUGGETS WITH HERB AND RADISH SALAD
You know that feeling, the feeling you get when sometimes you just want something from your childhood... Maybe fish fingers? A homemade burger? Moms stew, Chips with just salt n’ vinegar... It can bring you right back! But nowadays you’re more sensible, right? So not the greasy stuff! Here is a take on proper breaded chicken with a tasty salad and this is designed to be guilt free. So go on, enjoy it and live a little!
INGREDIENTS • • • • • •
• •
2 tablespoons minced shallot 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice ¼ teaspoon sea salt, plus more to taste ¼ teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil 2 cups spicy salad greens, such as rocket, spinach, mizuna, mâche, tatsoi, and/or radish leaves 2 cups loosely packed fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves ½ cup loosely packed mixed fresh herbs, such as mint, dill, chives, basil, and
• • • • • • • • • • •
coriander ½ cup thinly sliced radishes 2 chicken breasts 2 ½ cups panko breadcrumb 2 1/8ounces flour 2 large eggs 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard 1 tablespoon water ¾ teaspoon salt, plus more to taste ]¾ teaspoon black pepper 6 tablespoons grapeseed or safflower oil, divided 4 ½ tablespoons butter, divided
METHOD Combine shallot, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Let stand 5 minutes. Add olive oil; whisk to combine. Combine salad greens, parsley, mixed herbs, and radishes in a large bowl. Set aside Place chicken breasts on a cutting board; cut each chicken breast in half horizontally. Cut each chicken breast half into 3 rectangular pieces to yield 12 pieces. Using a meat mallet or rolling pin, flatten chicken pieces to 1/3-inch thickness Place panko and flour on 2 separate plates. In a shallow bowl , whisk together eggs, mustard, and 1 tablespoon water. Season chicken pieces on both sides with salt and pepper. Working with 2 pieces at a time , coat chicken with flour, patting to shake off excess. Dip in egg mixture, letting excess drip off. Place cutlets in panko, turning carefully to coat both sides of chicken pieces. Arrange breaded cutlets on plate. Heat 2 tablespoons oil and 1 1/2 tablespoons butter in a large pan over medium to medium-high. Once butter stops foaming, add as many cutlets as will fit without overlapping; cook, adjusting heat so cutlets sizzle but fat doesn’t begin to smoke, until browned and crisp, 3 to 5 minutes per side. Transfer to a wire rack or paper towel–lined plate to drain; sprinkle with salt to taste while still hot. Repeat process 2 times with remaining oil, butter, and cutlets. Pour dressing onto greens; toss salad, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Divide cutlets and salad among 4 plates. Garnish salads with edible flowers, if desired, and serve with lemon wedges

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR TO PARK OR NOT TO PARK: Firstly apologies to holders of the rights to the work of Shakespeare but I doubt they will mind me paraphrasing Hamlet!! There has been a lot of coverage of the raft of parking tickets that were given out on the roads around Austin Stack Park at the Kerry Dublin game. Cars in areas like the Clash Road got letters with the new fine of e80 which certainly was not what you want after travelling to support Kerry. There is no doubt that parking around the Stadium is a big issue and this is not the first time tickets have been given out but the amount this times seems many more than usual. It’s fine to sawy that the area where the Dome used to go was open for parking but the day of the game saw torrential rain before and during the game and that’s a decent walk to the game. It is not clear if the car park at the college on Clash Road was open so people took the chance of parking on the road. It is important to say that this is not the fault of the GAA as they cannot be expected to have stewards on all roads around the ground and even if they did what authority these would have. But could the Kerry County Board have done more? We will come back to that. Also the Gardai are entitled and indeed duty bound to put tickets on cars parked illegally. Should they take a different attitude to cars that are on the footpath blocking access to wheelchairs and buggies or blocking gates to those parked on the road side? And maybe they should have put out cones all the way down to the junction at the old entrance to the Racecourse and in other places where parking takes place on match day. However at the end of the day this is down to personal responsibility and saying the car in front of me parked up so I followed is not an excuse. I will confess that I have done this at games and taken the chance… As this was the first big game since restrictions were lifted there was always going to be a huge crowd and with the bad weather people were always going to try and get as close as possible which was fine if you arrived early and found a legal parking space. So maybe the Gardai could have used this game as a warning one and did a local media campaign afterward using video and pictures saying from now on tickets will be given out in these places. Unless the parking was causing an obstruction as I previously said, or indeed blocking business premises, and then action was rightly taken. Back to the GAA and could they have done more? Maybe when advertising the game they could have highlighted

where car parks were and that illegal parking is likely to see tickets issued. Also how about getting a local bus company to run two 24 seater shuttle busses from the ‘Dome’ car park and maybe from the aquadome if it is not open at the time of games. Charge e2 each way and these busses would be up and down in a few minutes. However at the end of the day the only conclusion that can be made is that if you take the chance and park illegally and get caught then it is your responsibility. The point was rightly made during the week when Kerry fans go to Dublin they won’t park illegally around Croke Park as they know they will be clamped. After the Dublin game Kerry fans have been warned that doing so in Tralee also will not be tolerated. DONEGAL THE VISITORS: The action turns to Killarney this Sunday when Donegal come to town for the third round of the Allianz League. Car parking is easier around the Fitzgerald Stadium but with the bad weather forecast on Friday and Saturday if the fields off the By Pass can’t be opened then finding a space could become trickier. On the field Kerry are coming off a great performance, in the first half in particular, and they will relish the chance to get back on the field again. With three points from two games another win would almost certainly secure Kerry’s Division 1 status and thoughts could turn to qualifying for the latter stages of the League. CLUBS DELIGHTED WITH SPORTS CAPITAL FUNDING: Clubs around the county were delighted that they were successful in their Sports Capital grant applications. There was an interesting grant to the Kerry Council when they got e133,188 for the Killarney Skateboard Park. Any sign of something similar, and much needed, in Tralee? Over e5.5 million was announced for Kerry clubs. From a Tralee point of view St Brendan’s Park were allocated e128,116, Tralee Rugby Club e71,795, Tralee Harriers Athletic Club e58,886, Tralee Regional Sports Centre e51,568, Tralee Pitch & Putt e46,357, John Mitchels got just over e12,800, Tralee Dynamos FC e12,934 Tralee Autosports e2,592 TRALEE TOWN BOARD NEWS: In the Tralee Town Board Lee Strand u17 Division 1 Round 2 Ardfert defeated Ballymac 4-06 to 1-02. In Division 2 Na Gaeil were 1-08 to 2-03 winners at home to Kerins O’Rahillys. There is action in the Seniors this Sunday with Round 1 & 2 clashes
throwing in at 11.30am due to the Kerry game. In Round 1 Ballymac play St Pat’s and John Mitchel’s are at home to Austin Stacks. In Round 2 Kerins O’Rahillys play Na Gaeil and Ardfert welcome Churchill. The day before in the Lee Strand Minor League in Division 1, throwing in at 3pm, Churchill face Ardfert and Austin Stacks welcome Ballymac while in Division 2 John Mitchels take on Na Gaeil with Rahillys having a bye. Scor Na Nog. – The GAA indoor activities are due to start up shortly, with Scor na Nog back soon. The Tralee & St Brendan’s District Finals will be held in the coming weeks. The County Finals are provisionally set Saturday March 19th. Any Club willing to send in any teenagers, please contact our Scor Officer Tom Herlihy 087 3106377. HARD LUCK FOR THE GREEN: Tralee CBS The Green put in a great effort before going down to St Brendan’s College in the Corn Ui Mhuiri final. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The u7’s train at Cluain na Lobhar this Sunday at 11am with the u9’s on the CBS Astro as do the u11’s. The u13’s are at the Kerry Sports Academy this Friday and next. The u15’s enjoyed their games in the Gaeltacht for their Spring competition. They train on Sunday in the Bishops Field. Minor training is on Mondays and Thursdays at 6pm. The club is holding a fundraising Golf Classic at the Tralee Golf Club on March 25th. PARNELL’S NEWS: Coaching workshops hosted by Colm O’Brien GDA for the next three weekends from 10am to 12noon at the MTU Sports Academy. With many of the squads having returned to training ahead of their League competitions members are reminded that registration is now open via Clubforce and the clubs website. RAHILLY NEWS: The club is calling all girls from 8-12 to take part in a 10 week Gaelic4Girls training programme costing e12 including a jersey. The underage girls teams in the club are back training with the minors and seniors back soon. Lotto: There was no winner from the numbers drawn 9,10,15 and 24 and the next jackpot will be e3,900. MIXED WEEKEND FOR THE WARRIORS: On Saturday night Garvey’s Tralee Warriors gave their SuperLeague hopes a big boost when they ended the unbeaten run of Tradehouse Central Ballincolling 94-90. Nikola Roso led the Warriors scoring on 27 followed by Aaron Calixte on 23 and Darragh O’Hanlon. Andre Nation led the Ballincollig scoring with 35 points. The two sides met the following day in Round 9 in Ballincollig and it was the home side that got back to winning ways 79-73. Both sides were a little tired from the previous night but it was Ballincollig that led at the break 36-27. The Warriors turned things around and led by 5 in the final quarter but the home side fought back to take what could be a vital win. For the Warriors Roso and Claixte both shot 18 with Daniel Jokubaitis hitting

13 while Andre Nation was again Ballincollig’s top scorer with 22. The Warriors play the last Southern Conference home game this Saturday night when NUIG Maree come to the Complex for a 7.30pm tip-off. GARY SPOT ON AGAIN: Once again Gary O’Neill showed nerves of steel as he again scored from the penalty spot as Shamrock Rovers won the Presidents Cup for the first time. They defeated St Patrick’s Athletic 5-4 on penalties. It gives the Hoops the perfect lead-in to the seasons League of Ireland Premier Division opener this Friday night when they are at home UCD. Park Progress - Locally well done to St Brendan’s Park whose 16’s boys side have qualified for the Last 16 of the SFAI National Cup defeating Neangh FC at Christy Leahy Park thanks to two goals from Sean Corkery. LACEY CUP IS BACK: The season opener for the cyclists, the Lacey Cup, is back after its two year absence and of the best riders in the country will be in Kerry on Sunday March the 6th. The route will be its usual 75km race rolling out from the Manor West Hotel at 12 noon, starting at Poffs Garage aroud 12.15, and taking in Camp, Gleann na nGealt, Annascaul, Inch, Castlemaine, up Sliabh Mish and then the rapid decent to the finish at Skehanagh Cross on the Killorglin- Tralee road. The Jackie O’Connor Memorial and the Teddy Griffin Memorial trophies are up for grabs for the leader over the climbs. The most recent Lacey Cup took place in 2019 when Killarney CC’s Conor Kissane took the win. He was the first Kerry winner since Sean Lacey who won every year from 2009 to 2013. FAST IN THE FOREST: Best of luck to all the competitors who are heading to Castleisland for the Cyril Wharton Plant Hire / Castleisland Tyre Centre sponsored Killarney and District Motor club run Forestry Rally this Sunday. Funds raised, including from programme sales, goes to the Community Air Ambulance. ON THE GREEN’S: At the Tralee Golf Club in the Castle Bar Spring League qualifying round on Saturday Pat Prenderville led the way on 36 points followed by Patrick Stack on 35 points. On Sunday Martin Mitchell was first on 37 points with Robert Dinan on 35 points. The top 5 in order in the qualifying round were the teams of M Mitchell 128, Mikey Sheehy 123, Kieran Dinan 123, T O’Halloran on 119 and Jason Daly’s team on 118. 15 teams are into the next round with Martin Mitchell’s team getting a Bye. The draw is on display in the club. In the Ladies section the 9 Hole Am Am was won by the trio of Sandra O’Sullivan, Katrina Mehigan and Claire Benner with Ber Walsh, Barbara Reen and Anne Moran in second place. In the Garvey’s Supervalu Spring League Anne Moran took the win from Lucy Grattan and Nuala Dawson.
