Tralee Chamber instrumental in securing extended eligibility of Small Business Assistance Scheme for COVID (SBASC) Chambers Ireland welcomed the announcement by Government that businesses which operate from nonrateable premises will now be eligible to apply for the €60m Small Business Assistance Scheme for COVID (SBASC) .Speaking lasŧ week , Chambers Ireland Chief Executive Ian Talbot responded to the announcement,“This news will come as a great relief to those business owners who have been in desperate need of assistance for over a year. Chambers Ireland has consistently called for the eligibility of COVID financial schemes to be widened. The government’s decision to act today could have come sooner but will make an immediate difference. Friday 28th May 2021

However, there is still more that must be done to support business owners and their staff. While we have a broad idea of how the economy will reopen, there is still too much uncertainty on the extent and duration of current supports, such as wage supports, rates waivers and debt warehousing. This is causing unnecessary anxiety among our members and delaying decisions which impact their futures.

A July Stimulus, in a similar vein to last year, can provide these necessary guarantees.”

The devastating economic impact of COVID means that many businesses will require some degree of financial support for the rest of the year. As we approach June and near the cut-off point for schemes currently in place, the Government must provide a detailed path forward so that

KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

10 Years in Tralee... Its because of our Team says the Zipyard When The Zip Yard opened its Kerry store in 2011 in Denny Street , Tralee was a very different place as there were still a lot of fallout from the 2008 crash. A lot of locations were vacant right in the centre of Tralee ! This large town in the Southwest was selected primarily as it was the shopping destination for a lot of Kerry people . The capital of the Southwest (as Cork and Limerick cities were both one and a half hours drive away ) draws shoppers from both north and south Kerry as well as the neighbouring counties . “This has proven to be a good decision for the brand as not only does the location provide regular customers , it also has been a great place to find great staff that serve our customers daily.” says John Nelligan , Owner of the Tralee Zipyard franchise (as well as some other branches !) “Now let me introduce you to our staff “says John “Teresa Fitzell...Teresa , a customer favourite has been with the business since day one and has been putting her qualifications from The Grafton Academy of Fashion Design to good use for our customer alteration ideas for the past 10 years. Megan Moriarty......Megan is our store manager and brings lots of experience from a varied business background

working in other franchises and business to help the Kerry store run like clockwork .Megan is key in keeping our customer service to our high standards. Zofia Mista.....Zofia brings over 40 years experience of dress making and designing in Europe to our Kerry clients. She has made everything from bespoke dresses and outfits from just pictures as she is also a qualified pattern maker. Bridal party and evening wear alterations are her favourite as she has a great eye for detail. Mihalea Nitu.....Mihalea brings over 35 years experience from working in the factories of some of fashion industries biggest brands to Kerry clients. She helps turn client alterations ideas into reality with her knowledge of materials and fabrics. Your ideas will turn into reality when Mihalea takes over .” “The Zip Yard brand is the alterations and tailoring service for choice from Irelands Tv, radio, sports and entertainment stars as can be seen from their website and social media sites. But It’s the local customers that we love serving the most” says Teresa . “All our customers care about how they look. We say we don’t sell clothes alterations or tailoring, we sell confidence! When you get your garment

KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

HELLo everyone! & welcome to the first edition of this brand new weekly column, 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world pf social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!

Social Media. It may seem you cannot go 24hrs without hearing about it, using it, someone showing you a video they saw on it or being told you need to get on the latest one... even though you might be just after mastering Instagram stories. Now... I am going to be quite blunt here... think Gary Vaynerchuk minus the curse words blunt. (if you don't know who he is don't worry, you will soon enough)... anyway, back to being blunt. IF. YOU. HAVE. A. BUSINESS. IN. 2021. YOU. NEED. TO. UTILIZE. SOCIAL. MEDIA. (I really hope that was blunt enough.) Anyways, not using social media isn't the cool old school business stance that you think it is... It is actually, quite a self sabotaging move to be honest. If you don't 'get' it... ok... but I know you probably didn't understand how to drive the first time you saw a car either. Don't do yourself or your intelligence a disservice by refusing to learn and keep up with the times. I'm saying this because I care about you, and your business. Social Media is going absolutely nowhere, it's not a phase, it's not silly, it's how your market yourself and your business in 2021. If you don't understand it that's fine, either try to teach yourself, pay someone to teach you or pay someone to manage it for you. Of course there are many social media platforms, I will probably do a column on each of them separately to explain them to be honest but here's a few of my favourites (in particular order)... Tiktok, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn & Facebook are the main ones I work with people on. Of course there is also Clubhouse, but that is pretty new and voice only, it's in beta so it's only available for Apple users which is why I don't want to mention it too much, but it is super useful! Rebecca, do I HAVE to be on every social media platform? There are SO many to figure out! My simple answer is no, of course not, but... the more platforms you are on and the more you utilize them... the bigger reach you will have. Posting content is key when it comes to social media, obviously, but what content to post is the question most people have. My top tip is this, have a really really clear brand identity. Know the tone of your brand, the communication style and what your why is behind your brand. Have a read over your mission statement, and really connect with the message and feeling you want to give people when they work with you, shop from you or visit your restaurant / cafe. It's not actually all about selling on social media (this is the point most people miss), it's about creating a community, enhancing your message and getting people to understand your vibe.

I hope you are as excited as I am for this new weekly Social Media column! I am excited to help you all become social media savvy and to learn tips and tricks along the way. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in any of my social media services, you can follow @create.socialmedia on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com to book a call!

SYN-FREE CARBONARA… its easy - peasy!

Sharon's Slimming World Carbonara recipe is a real taste of Italy "This is an easy cook midweek meal, its syn-free, and all the family can enjoy this " says Sharon Prep 10 mins Cook 10 mins Serves 4 Syn free

Ingredients ◆ 400g dried spaghetti ◆ 4tbs quark ◆ 4 eggs ◆ Onion powder (1/2 tsp) ◆ Garlic powder (1/2 tsp) ◆ 6 bacon medallions (fat removed and roughly chopped) ◆ 1 onion sliced ◆ Mushrooms sliced

Method Cook spaghetti as per instructions on pack. Drain and return to pan. Meanwhile fry the bacon, mushrooms and onion together in fry light on a medium heat. Lightly beat the eggs, quark, onion powder and garlic powder together and season. Add the bacon mushroom and onions to to spaghetti and stir through on a very low heat, remove from the heat and add in the egg mixture. Toss well so the eggs thicken in the residual heat from the pasta, making a sauce that coats the pasta. Divide into four portions and serve hot with salad. HELLO YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! & welcome to the first edition of this brand new weekly column, 'Confidence with Rebecca'. A lot has changed over the past year for MANY of us, for me personally, I have began Confidence Coaching. I help women (mostly) eliminate limiting beliefs and self doubt. So I thought it would be lovely idea to provide you all with some confident energy each week going forward so that you can... CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

SO... Why Confidence? I have realised, through lots of inner work, questioning myself, and coaching, that your level of Confidence pretty much dictates your entire life. Your relationships, friendships, career, self love, awareness, hobbies, the list goes on. It is, in my opinion, one of the most vital yet neglected part of ourselves. Many of us who lack confidence think that we lack it because we simply were not born confident, we think that because we were in fact born without this 'superpower' that nothing can help us and that's that. Not only this but we never pay much attention to our own level of confidence unless a specific event or thing happens in our life. At that moment we might say 'Oh I wish I was confident', 'if only I was as confident as that person' etc. It is a fleeting thought, we don't actually stop and think about it, we don't try and question ourselves or our behaviours. We don't focus on trying to change our reality and become more confident. With most things in life, if we want a new skill, we must learn how to do it. We learn how to drive, cook, walk, communicate. do our makeup, cycle, skateboard... the list goes on! Of course some of these things take 'natural skill' or ability but generally, if we want to do something new, we learn how to do it, or at least try. So... Confidence is something that can be learned.

Ever hear of the phrase 'fake it til you make it'? Of course you have. It's mostly used when talking about your confidence. When we start a new job, meet new people, or are going into a situation where we might feel uncomfortable we decide to just... Fake it! Well, in my opinion, we actually don't 'fake' anything. We just simply channel the inner part of us that is confident enough to do or be whatever we need to. Think about it... if we had the ability to 'fake it' so well, wouldn't we all be the best Actors in the world? On the big screen & in the movies? Because we're all so good at 'faking it'... exactly. We don't 'fake' anything, we have that inner confidence, we have that inner ability, we just let ourselves, others, or society, convince us that we do not. That's a lot to take in I know, so I will leave you with a task this week, become aware of your thoughts. How do you talk to yourself every single day? Are the majority of those thoughts positive or negative? The more aware we are of our thoughts the more we have control over them!

I hope you are as excited as I am for this new weekly Confidence column! I am excited to help you all become the most confident version of yourselves, as I say to my clients, without confidence your life is not YOUR life. I would absolutely love to do a Confidence Q&A (100% anonymous of course), so if you have any confidence questions you can email them to rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com with the word 'CONFIDENCE' in the subject line. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in Confidence Coaching, you can follow @theconfidencegame on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com for more information about 1:! coaching, group coaching or masterclasses!

Fenit, One Of 14 Blue Flags Awarded To Kerry For 2021

Lark in the Park ! St Brendans Park residents gather safely during lockdown

Gallys do the JERUSALEMA Dance !

Kerry has been awarded 14 Blue Flags this summer including 12 at beaches around the county, one at Fenit Marina and one at the Portmagee Seasonal Pontoons in south Kerry. The decision of the International Blue Flag jury was announced today and sees the following beaches awarded Blue Flags for 2021: Rossbeigh, Ballybunion South, Ballyheigue, Fenit, Maherabeg, Kells, Derrynane, White Strand, Ballinskelligs, Banna, Ventry and Inch. Fenit Marina also retains its Blue Flag this year while the Portmagee Seasonal Pontoons, run by Kilrush Maritime Ltd, is a recipient also. Green Coast Awards have been issued for Waterville, Ballinskelligs, Béal Bán, Castlegregory and Littor beaches. Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Patrick Connor Scarteen welcomed the announcement saying that the awarding of the Blue Flags is a wonderful vote of confidence in the collaborative approach between Kerry County Council, local community groups and beach users who work together to maintain our beautiful beaches and bathing waters. ‘This is fantastic recognition of the quality of our beaches and beach environments in Kerry. Kerry County Council invests tremendous effort in keeping County Kerry at the top of the Blue Flag list and will continue to invest the necessary resources to ensure the sustainable management of our magnificent beaches along the Kerry coast,’ he said. ‘To be awarded 14 Blue Flags in the county is really positive news for the local economy and our tourism industry at this very challenging time,’ said John Breen, Director of Services with Kerry County Council.

Kellihers Toyota Garage , presenting fundraising cheques to Recovery Haven & Comfort for Chemo Friday 28th May 2021

‘We would appeal to all beach users this summer to be responsible in observing social distancing at the beach, to be respectful of other beach users and to ensure that they leave the beach as they found it and do not litter. In that regard, we will be stepping up our anti-littering messaging with new signs and publicity campaigns over the coming weeks,’ he added.

16 KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

Bookings Boost For Kerry Hotels And Guesthouses Hotel and guesthouse owners in Kerry and across the country are welcoming the increase in bookings that has followed the Government’s recent announcement that hotels will reopen on 2nd June. The latest industry survey* from the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) shows booking levels nationally now average 31% for July and 27% for August – the key summer months. This compares to levels of 23% and 21% respectively just ahead of the announcement. As hotels and guesthouses across the country prepare to reopen, Bernadette Randles, Chair of the Kerry branch of the IHF, is calling on the Government to facilitate the return of vaccinated overseas travellers quickly to give a clear sign to overseas markets too that Ireland is open for business again, similar to reopening announcements in other European countries such as Greece, Portugal and Malta. “The increase in bookings in the past fortnight has been a welcome morale boost to our

Friday 28th May 2021

members and the thousands of people employed in Irish hotels. The domestic market was a real positive last year and we know home holidays will be very important in supporting our sector again this year. We would encourage people to explore all parts of the county and across the country, as they did last year. There is excellent value available. Guests should shop around and contact hotels directly to find out what special offers are available, including mid-week specials for those whose dates are flexible.” While hotels and guesthouses are not banking on significant overseas visitors this year, Ms Randles is calling on the Government to implement the EU Covid-19 Travel Certificate, expected to be approved by the EU next month, as quickly as possible. “This would send a very clear signal that Ireland is reopening for tourism when it is safe to travel and will facilitate the necessary lead times for planning holidays and

business travel. As an island nation international tourism is critically important, accounting for over 70% of tourism revenue pre-COVID. Ms Randles also called for a firm commitment from government on business and employment supports for the sector into 2022. “The summer months are very important and the uplift we are seeing in booking levels is a clear indicator that the recovery of Irish tourism is underway. However, overall, a slow recovery is still expected in 2021. Our industry has been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and with some level of restrictions likely for some time to come, tourism recovery is not going to begin in earnest until 2022. “Specifically, we are seeking for the EWSS to remain in place until the end of March 2022, an extension of the Local Authority Rates waiver until the end of March 2022 similar to what has been put in place in Scotland. We also ask that the Covid Restrictions

Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

Supports Scheme (CRSS), targeting businesses with a 75% drop in revenue, be doubled irrespective of the level of Covid restrictions and the €5,000 weekly cap to be removed, along with the doubling of reopening grants to reflect the scale of reopening costs after months of prolonged closure. Ms Randles said hotels also require a clear commitment from the Government to retain the tourism VAT rate. “The 9% VAT is a critical measure for international competitiveness and must be in place until 2025 to assist recovery and secure a viable and sustainable future for the industry,” she added. It is the right rate of VAT vis a vis other European countries. “On behalf of the Kerry branch of the IHF we would really like to thank everyone for their continued and wish one and all a very enjoyable and safe summer,” Ms Randles added.

AN ART COLLECTOR WAS BEING SUED FOR $10 MILLION.

So he hired the best attorney he could find. A few days into the case, the attorney calls the art collector on the phone. He says, “Saul, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.” The art collector replied, “I’ve had an awful day; let’s hear the good news first.”

coffee morning

The attorney said, “Well, I met with your wife today, and she informed me that she invested $5,000 in two pictures that she thinks will bring a minimum of $15-20 million. I think she could be right.” Saul replied enthusiastically, “Well done! My wife is a brilliant businesswoman! You’ve just made my day. Now I know I can handle the bad news. What is it?” The attorney replied, “The pictures are of you with your secretary.”

Stay Healthy, Stay Well We have spent the past 15 months focusing on our immune system and giving it the support needed to keep us healthy and well. While it is important to continue looking after our immunity, now that we can see the much sought after light at the end of the covid tunnel and we are finally starting to get our lives and routines back bit by bit, it is important to focus on our emotional health and give it the support needed as we navigate our way through the coming months. For anyone who is feeling anxious, stressed or overwhelmed there are some very effective natural remedies which can help. However, it is important to remember if you are concerned about your mental or emotional health it is important to speak with your GP. PASSIFLORA: helps with the normal functioning of the nervous system. Assists with reduction in stress induced tiredness and fatigue. Ideal for days where you feel overwhelmed.

ASHWAGANDA: a powerful ancient medicinal herb in capsules or drops. Used to help address stress and anxiety and can also help increase energy levels and motivation. MAGNESIUM: good quality sleep is essential to keep your coping and tolerance levels up, so If you are struggling to switch off, take a good quality magnesium supplement such as MACANTA, VIRIDIAN or PRIZMAG couple of hours before bedtime. If you are on prescribed medication it is important to discuss this with us before choosing any herbal remedy. As always, we are happy to recommend the product which will suit your specific needs best. Just pop in and have a chat with us. Until next time, stay healthy

What are Picasso Penguin Paintings?

Oceanworld in Dingle came up with the idea of Picasso Penguin Paintings during Lockdown ! Says Máire (Manager Oceanworld ) “Enrichment is a massive part of our Gentoo Penguins day. The paintings give the penguins a chance to create with colour! They use “Penguin friendly” paint and the outcome has been amazing. Some penguins even used their tail feathers as well as their feet to express their creative side. The results are unique and are available to purchase from our gift shop and our online shop.” Take a look below

T RQU ING CARS ! business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read Get your PREMIUM ADVERTISING 26 O ELECTRIC KODA ENYAQ IV TO DEBUT ON 1ST JUNE

ŠKODA Ireland have announced their electric ŠKODA ENYAQ iV will debut in Irish showrooms on 1st June. The ENYAQ iV is ŠKODA’s first fully electric vehicle that was revealed in September of last year, with the first Irish sales pre-booked online in November by way of a €1,000 deposit. The ENYAQ iV is an SUV driven by an emission-free electric motor delivering power to the rear wheels. An all-wheel-drive version will be available in early 2022. The ENYAQ iV boasts the latest modern technology and driver safety systems, as well as a spacious and comfortable interior crafted from quality materials. Boot capacity, at 585 litres, is one of the largest of any electric vehicle on the market. Offered in two versions, the entry ENYAQ 60 is powered by a 58 kW/h battery with a range of up to 412 km. The ENYAQ 80 features a 77kW/h battery and has a range of up to 535 km on the WLTP cycle. In geographical terms, a one-way trip from Cahersiveen to Carndonagh is achievable when fully charged! In addition to superior range and performance, the ENYAQ 80 version has greater equipment levels and enhanced exterior elements. All ENYAQ iV vehicles come with the latest MIB infotainment systems with 13” colour touch screen display with an accompanying digital dashboard. From the exterior, impressive optional 21” Betria alloy wheels are the largest ever fitted to a ŠKODA. The ENYAQ iV can be individualised like any other model in the range. For convenience ŠKODA have consolidated their option list into 15 option packages; such as the “Light & View Package” that contains LED Matrix Head Lights, Dynamic Rear Indicators and Headlamp Washers from €1,417. Commenting on the imminent arrival of the ENYAQ iV, John Donegan Brand Director, ŠKODA Ireland said: “The ENYAQ iV has been our most hotly anticipated model since the launch of the KODIAQ. Although there are many electrified vehicles on the market today, very few tick all the boxes. The combination of great range, affordable price and space for all the family are often lacking in competing vehicles, but are delivered in spades by the ENYAQ iV. Many customers who reserved their ENYAQ iV online back in November will take delivery in July, with the remaining customers taking delivery in the months up to September. I would like to thank them for their confidence and trust in ŠKODA. We are delighted to have secured a small quantity of additional ENYAQ iV 60 versions for delivery in September. They can be secured by contacting your local ŠKODA dealer. Electric vehicle & home charging grants and incentives of up to €8,321 are guaranteed to the end of this year so I would urge customers to consider their electric future with an ENYAQ iV today rather than waiting until 2022”

NEW 2021 MERCEDES-MAYBACH S-CLASS

Mercedes has outlined the engine line-up for the all-new Maybach S-Class, with buyers able to choose from either a 4.0-litre V8 or a 6.0-litre V12, and with a plug-in hybrid option available later down the line. The new Maybach S-Class is on sale in Germany now, with prices starting from €164,565 (around £141,000) for the V8 and £217,323 (roughly £187,000) for the V12. It’ll go on sale in the UK shortly, with first deliveries expected to arrive towards the end of the year. The range opens with the S 580 4MATIC variant, powered by twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 producing 496bhp and 700Nm of torque. It sends drive to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox, linked to a 48-volt starter-generator for complete engine shut off coasting and seamless restarting. The V8 allows the luxury limousine to sprint from 0–62mph in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph. Fuel economy is a claimed 25.9mpg, while CO2 emissions stand between 233 and 248g/km. The more expensive S 680 model is powered by a non-electrically assisted 6.0-litre V12, which produces 603bhp and 900Nm of torque. The extra grunt lowered the Maybach’s 0–62mph time to 4.5 seconds, although top speed remains the same at 155mph. It’s also connected to the same automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive system as the V8.It’s also even more thirsty than the V8. Mercedes says it’ll return between 19.6 and 21.0mpg on the WLTP combined cycle. Emissions are rated between 305 and 322g/km, which is only slightly less than the Ferrari 812 Superfast.Cosmetic revisions over the standard S-Class include a redesigned radiator grille, a new front bumper, fresh LED headlights and a tweaked rear-end with a more svelte diffuser and twin-exit exhaust system. As an optional extra, buyers can also spec Maybach’s trademark two-tone paint scheme, which is cut at the saloon’s waistline. Like the outgoing model, the Maybach S-Class will be exclusively available as a longwheelbase saloon. However, despite sharing the same basic underpinnings as the standard car, it’s a full 18cm longer than the extended wheelbase Mercedes S-Class. Maybach says this gives rear-seat passengers extra space to stretch out.Maybach expects most of its customers will have their own chauffeur, rather than drive their cars themselves, so the cabin has been organised to suit. In the rear, there’s a pair of electrically adjustable and reclining chairs in place of the standard S-Class’s bench seat, both of which feature massaging leg-rests and footrests built into the floor. There’s also a host of optional equipment to keep rear-seat passengers comfortable, such as adjustable LED spot lamps, gesture control and two 11.6-inch touchscreens, which allow the occupants to browse the internet or watch films. However, Maybach hasn’t neglected the driver. Up front, there’s the same 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.8-inch infotainment system as the standard S-Class, but they’re surrounded by finer-quality trim, plusher upholstery and deeper-pile carpets.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR AND WE ARE BACK: For the last couple of weeks it has been great to see sport returning on the local, national and international front which is wonderful to see. And of course sport, whether it was the many look backs that the media had to do or the limited amount of live action, certainly helped to get many people through what was a very hard 18 months in so many ways. THANKS TO THOSE ON THE FRONTLINES: Before I go any further it would be remiss not to say a thank you to all those who were, and hopefully will again be, readers of the Tralee Advertiser and who worked through the pandemic. Many of these are participants themselves in sports, parents of young players or involved in sports administration and saw a lot of this taken away from them as their vital work took over. We say a big Thank You to each and every one and hope that as we are now almost out the other side you will have time to get back to enjoying your pass times. THE FANS ARE BACK: It was great to hear over the weekend that plans are being put in place to have fans back in stadiums during the summer. In truth we are a little behind the curve here and it is hard to understand why fans are not back already. Yes there is the argument of how people will get to the games and will they hang around afterwards but at some stage we must trust people to do the right thing. Anyway with up to 30,000 expected to be at the All Ireland finals there will be pro rata crowds at the Aviva, at county grounds including Austin Stacks Park and the Fitzgerald Stadium for the GAA and Mounthawk Park for soccer and at the Kerry festival race meetings. However as important as it is to have the big crowds it’s equally important that people can get back to watching their local teams in their local pitches. Indoor games like basketball have really suffered and still don’t have a return date. However as the basketball season usually starts after the summer fingers crossed by then that the 2021-2022 season locally and nationally can run as normal and if there has to be some limited limiting of crowds the clubs are well able to handle that. If anyone was watching Friday 28th May 2021

some international sport over the weekend you will have seen the crowds at the PGA at Kiawah Island who roared Phil Mickelson to victory. And for fans of Stateside motor sport qualifying took place for the famous Indianapolis 500 where they expect to have 135,000 fans in for the race next Sunday. Yes 135,000!! Closer to home limited crowds back in the soccer grounds across the water certainly made a huge difference at the end of the season and definitely in the Play-Offs that have reached the final stages at Wembley. It really was an eerie place up to now when empty. So hopefully in the next few weeks we will see crowds at GAA and soccer games and over the next few months we will see all sports back. Clubs in all codes have done everything that has been asked of them and many have gone above and beyond that by having members volunteer in their communities. Now they deserve the rewards of getting back to the sports they love. YOUR NOTES ARE OUR NEWS: We look forward to welcoming back all the clubs who send in their weekly notes. However we will be delighted get news from any other club in the Tralee area who wants a mention. Just email in your notes to traleeadvertiser@gmail.com and we will do our best to get in as much as possible of what is happening in your club. We will be delighted to feature sports clubs in the Tralee area that might not get the coverage they deserve. KERRY GAA QUICK OUT OF THE BLOCKS: It has been a busy couple of weeks on the GAA front with the Kerry seniors enjoying a big win over Galway and playing out an exciting draw with Dublin at the weekend thanks to a late David Clifford penalty. They should see off Roscommon next week with backto-back League titles still well on the cards. The Kerry hurlers were disappointed to go down away to Offaly but bounced back at the weekend with a good win over Meath in Tralee. They will be looking to add to this in their next game at home to Wicklow. The Kerry Ladies were one of the teams that the lockdown really came

at the wrong time for when they were denied a chance of winning the League and promotion when their season ended prematurely. However they have not put this behind them and made a great start to this year’s League with an impressive away win over Meath. They now have two home games versus Clare and Wexford with the top two teams into the Division 2B semi-finals. From a girls point of view it is disappointing that there won’t be a minor championship for them this years while the boys goes ahead. The Kerry camogie team were unable to follow up their great win at home to Galway as they went down to Cork. And whatever happens in their next game against Tipperary where they will again be underdogs they will know that by beating Galway they are well capable of playing at this level. I had the pleasure of covering that Galway game for Radio Kerry Sport and the girls put in a great performance to defeat a top side who had beaten them easily the year before. Their intensity in defence and skill in attack was a pleasure to watch and they certainly deserved that win. At underage level the Kerry minor’s footballers, going for a 9th Munster title in a row will face the winners of Waterford and Cork in their semifinal while the minor hurlers have drawn Tipperary in their quarter final. The Kerry u20’s will play Cork in the semi-final while the u20 hurlers have drawn Clare. KERINS O’RAHILLY NEWS: All teams are back training ahead of the County Leagues which start on June 12th and 13th. The club will compete in Divisions 1 and 5B at senior level while the minors will begin their County League on June 7th. The club is delighted to see so many underage players back in the Academies with new players always welcome. This Sunday the Academies return to Ballyrickard. The girls section of the club is also back training with lots of games to come. Lotto- There was no winner from the numbers drawn – 18, 23, 24 and 27 with the next jackpot being e8,400. STACKS NEWS Once again the club has great numbers in the underage Academies with many of the young players enjoying two sessions. Action continues this Sunday and Thursday. The older teenagers are getting ready for their County League competitions. The club is setting up a Boot Room where players can donate old boots that no longer fit them and can be used by younger upcoming players. Parents and players are encouraged to donate their old boots.

TRALEE BAY SWIMMING CLUB PLANNING FOR A GOOD YEAR: The Tralee Bay Swimming Club are planning for some of their big events including the Lighthouse and WheelRock swims, a minimum of 5 World Series swims and 3 BBQ’s plus some other swims as well as mentoring new members. There will also be a Ladies only swim. The club didn’t collect membership last year and the cost hasn’t changed for eight years so e20 from nonswimming membership, e50 for the swimming membership and e80 for family membership still stand. Members will be at Locke’s Beach this Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 12 noon to sign up members and answer any questions from prospective members. TRALEE CONNECTIONS: We will finish our column each week with a section on sports persons connected with Tralee who haven’t been mentioned elsewhere in the article. If you know of anyone connected with the Tralee area who is involved in any sport drop us a line. On the Soccer Field: There was no luck at the weekend for ex Tralee Dynamos Paul White who was in action in Wembley in the final of the FA Trophy. The keeper and his Hereford FC teammates went down to their London opponents but had a great run of six wins to reach the final. Leo Gaxha has had a very good season with the Sheffield Wednesday u23’s and the 18 year old was in the Irish u19 camp last week so hopefully a call up to a squad will follow. Gary O’Neill continues to star with Shamrock Rovers who top the SSE Airtricity Premier League as they chase back to back titles. They did suffer a blip when losing to Dundalk at the weekend which ended their record breaking 33 League game unbeaten run. Shane Lowth, who moved from Killarney Celtic with Matt Keane, is starring with Treaty United who have made a very impressive start to their debut season in the SSE Airtricity League Division 1. On the Race Track – Once again Tralee motorsport fans will be keeping an eye on the progress of Lorcan Hanafin who will again compete in the Porche Carrera Cup GB. The real Horse Power – The Tralee Harriers enjoyed a very successful meeting at the Tralee Racecourse. Everyone involved expressed the wish that horse racing could return to Ballybeggan Park on a regular basis.
