LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Scenario section 117 – Children’s entitlements if not provided for in a Will Tom left school at the age of 16 with the intention of taking over the farm in time. He has worked hard for the past 8 years on the farm for little or no pay and now the farm has been given to his college educated brother Michael following his father’s death. Tom and his father don’t see eye to eye over his new girlfriend and he doesn’t believe he has a responsibility to Tom because he is adopted. Tom feels it is unfair and is wondering what he can do. In conjunction with the 1965 Succession Act Tom is entitled to sue under section 117. The section 117 application must be made within 6 months of the grant of probate being taken out. At no point after the 6 months can the applicant make a section 117 application regardless of the circumstances. What has to be determined is whether the testator at time of death owed any duty of care to the children. The date of death is the relevant time to consider whether there was a failure in the moral duty. Children have no automatic entitlement they can merely apply to the court and if the testator failed in his moral duty to make just and proper provision in accordance with his means, the court can make whatever provision it deems appropriate for the child. The court must take into consideration the position of each child of the testator and any other circumstances to arrive at a fair conclusion. The court must view it from the perspective from a prudent and just parent. Certain criteria have been established in caselaw which will be taken into account by the court e.g. Value of estate and means of deceased. The Amount received by the surviving spouse. Any benefits received by son/daughter during the testator’s (Will maker’s) lifetime. Current financial circumstances and prospects of the son/ daughter. Benefits given to other siblings and their financial circumstances/prospects. In the case of Re-GM stated that the fact that the father didn’t like his adopted son didn’t mean he was not entitled to succeed under this section 117. In the case of Mc Donald v Norris the testators son left school at 14 to work on the farm and his brother received the profits. His brother also received the farm. A section 117 application was successful thus entitling the disinherited son to most of the farm. Tom has a very good chance of succeeding in a section 117 application because he is in a lot worse financial position then his college educated brother. Tom didn’t complete his leaving cert and sacrificed his education to work on the farm. Lawquip: No man is above the law, and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man’s permission when we require him to obey it. - President Theodore Roosevelt If you have a legal query or need further information on any item addressed in this column please send in your query to mirs@gofree.indigo.ie Miriam McGillycuddy, Solicitor, Derryana, Ballyard, Tralee, County Kerry. New Products
In this week’s column we are going to tell you about the new products we are stocking as we have had so many people asking recently. We have introduced the brand Osmo to the shop and we absolutely love it.
Osmo
We were first introduced to this brand at the Great British Barber Bash we attended not so long ago. We will be stocking the matte clay extreme, for the moment. It is an extreme hold, texture wax for natural expression. • Provides dry, textured control. • Creates definition • Tames fly away hairs • Extreme yet flexible hold • Matte look finish To achieve the look you want with this wax rub a small amount between your palms and even some on to your fingertips. Distribute evenly throughout your wet or dry hair. You can then work it to any style you desire and use the extra on your fingertips to add a bit of texture to the top.
Boost Powder BOOKING ON: 066 7123055 IN THE GALLERY RÁTH AGUS RINCE
Celebrating 25 Years of an Iconic Building Celebrating a much loved building, its creation and official launch all those years ago, using video footage, memorabilia and photographs. Runs until 17th September ADMISSION FREE
This is another product we love at the moment. Boost powder gives you volume and texture, all while keeping a matte and natural look. All you have to do with the powder is shake a bit into your hair and style as you like. It has extreme hold and the great thing is you can change the style by running your hands through your hair. This product will stay in your hair all day. We are now selling our own boost powder which all our barbers use, for 6 euro in both shops. At The Barber we would like to congratulate all those who finished the junior and leaving certs. Enjoy your summers!!

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... GARVEY’S SUPERVALU TRALEE INVESTS €2.2 MILLION IN STORE REVAMP
23rd June 2016 – The Garvey Group, opened its state of the art, newly renovated SuperValu in Tralee Town Centre following a €2.2 million investment. The renovation led to the creation of ten new jobs, bringing the total number of staff employed in the store to 90 and follows a €2.7 million renovation of their 16,450 sq ft SuperValu store in Dingle last year. The Tralee store refurbishment has focused on extending and improving the store’s fresh food offering, catering for increasing consumer demand for local and healthy food. The Tralee store now boasts an extended deli area serving an upmarket selection of hot and cold food and a new gourmet barista coffee offering in a newly designed seating space. Customers will also enjoy an expanded fresh food aisle, a health section and a Food Academy aisle which will be home to emerging local food suppliers and small producers. In addition there is a new cheese counter with an unrivalled selection of cheeses, many seasonal and many sourced locally. Commenting on the announcement, Jim Garvey, Garvey Group said: “We are delighted with our new store here in Tralee which is a real demonstration of our confidence in the local economy and a further commitment to go above and beyond to deliver on our shoppers needs. We have made a substantial investment to further underline our fresh food offering which SuperValu is renowned for and to bring great choice and value across the range. We continue to provide even greater support to local suppliers through the Food Academy programme and we’re delighted that we have been able to create even more local employment in the process, highlighting the fact that we continue to repay our loyal customers by investing back into the local economy. The Garvey family have been serving communities in Munster since 1935 and currently have SuperValu supermarkets and Centra stores across Dingle, Castleisland, Listowel, Newcastlewest, Corbally, Dungarvan and Cobh. They work very closely with the local communities and charities, supporting a wide range of organisations such as Kerry Cancer Support Group, Kerry GAA, and Tidy Towns. SuperValu serves over 2.6 million customers every week and has 221 stores nationwide. Together with its retail partners, SuperValu employs over 14,500, making it one of the State’s largest private sector employers. 75% of everything on SuperValu’s shelves is sourced or produced in Ireland. SuperValu continues to source locally wherever possible and purchases almost €2 billion worth of goods from Irish suppliers which help to sustain 30,000 jobs in the Irish economy.

LISTELLICK NATIONAL SCHOOL FORMER PUPIL AND SPECIAL OLYMPIAN, LIAM PURCELL, RAISES FLAGS IN LISTELLICK On Tuesday morning Listellick National School celebrated achieving a Green Flag, a Health Promoting Flag and a Plaque of Excellence for Discover Primary Science and Maths. Liam Purcell, a past pupil, raised the two flags for Listellick. Liam recently won two gold medals for sprinting and ball throw in the Special Olympics Munster Championships held in Cork Institute of Technology. “We were awarded the Green Flag for energy conservation. The Green School Committee implemented an energy saving plan organising energy squads and electricity monitors. Pupils also completed projects on climate change and renewable energy” said Ms. Ruane, the Green School co-ordinator. Ms. Ruane also said that the pupils in Listellick have become very aware of the ways in which energy can be saved in their homes”. Ms. Dwyer, Listellick’s Health Promoting Officer was delighted that the school achieved the Health Promoting Flag. “This is a fantastic formal recognition by the HSE of the all health promoting initiatives that are run throughout the school. This has been a three programme and initiatives that contributed to the award include The Friends for Life Programme, Incredible Years Programme, Stay Safe, Super Troopers (Active Homework), Healthy Eating and the Food Dudes Programme. The school also celebrated the awarding of the Plaque of Excellence for Discover Primary Science and Maths. Mr. Finn, who coordinated the project said “To win the plaque the school as a whole made a huge effort in promoting STEM activities & learning during the 2015/16 academic year. STEM relates to science, technology, engineering & maths”. All the pupils wore green on Tuesday and were given homework off for the week as a reward for all their hard work.
FRIENDS OF UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL KERRY 2016 FUNDRAISING EVENT LAUNCHED
The Friends of University Hospital Kerry Annual Gala Benefit Night sponsored by Kerry Group will take place on Friday 8 July 2016 at Tralee Greyhound Stadium. This year marks the 26th Anniversary of the fundraising programme, which has raised in excess of €2 million since its inauguration in 1991. The fundraising target for the 2016 event is €100,000 and the money raised will be used to buy equipment for several departments in the hospital. This year’s fundraising effort will be supported by soccer clubs across the Denny Kerry District League. Over the years, funds raised have been used for the provision of essential equipment at the hospital, which delivers critical services to families throughout County Kerry, West Limerick and North Cork. Examples of equipment donated to date include; CT and DEXA Scanners, cardiac and paediatric technologies and Laparoscopic equipment for keyhole surgery, as well as numerous other important pieces impacting almost every department. The DEXA Scanner which was purchased by the Friends of Kerry General Hospital at a cost of €110,000 was officially opened on 8 February 2016. This equipment is key in the early diagnosis and treatment of patients with osteoporosis. At the opening Tom McCormack, Consultant Surgeon, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the hospital to the Friends of University Hospital Kerry and to the people of the area for their generosity. At the launch of this year’s Gala Benefit Night, Dr. Richard Horgan, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, referred to the importance of the ultrasound equipment to be funded through this year’s event. This specialised ultrasound machine for examining pregnant mothers and women with gynaecology problems will provide detailed information about women’s health and the health of babies before birth. He noted that University Hospital Kerry is already one of the safest hospitals in the country in which to have a baby and this new equipment will make things even better for expectant mothers in the region. Tom McCormack, Consultant Surgeon, thanked Liam Brassil, the Friends of University Hospital Kerry and Kerry Group for the significant level of fundraising over the last 26 years, without which the Hospital could not provide its current level of service. Frank Hayes, Director of Corporate Affairs at Kerry Group commented, “Kerry Group is proud to be to be the main sponsor of University Hospital Kerry’s Gala Fundraising Night which is an extremely worthy cause. Raising funds to buy much needed equipment, so that the hospital can continue to care for and support patients and families from the region is something we are delighted to support. We wish the organisers of this event every success in reaching this year’s target of €100,000.” 14

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE...
MARATHON ON THE BEACH ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL INTEREST
The Brandon Bay half marathon & 10k is Ireland’s only all beach HM/10k event (and possibly the only one in the world - ), meaning the course never leaves the strand around Brandon Bay. The 2016 event will be the 3rd Brandon Bay HM/10k event and to date over 800 people have participated from all over the globe. This year already they have participants registered online from as far way as Australia, Canada, the USA and even 2 from China! They also have entries from all over Ireland as well as the UK, France, Spain & Germany in the EU - The event start times on Sat July 16th are... 9am for the HM and 10am for the 10k which leads to a fantastic atmosphere at the finish The main attraction of our event is two fold - the uniqueness of the event and the amazing scenery. Added together they give runners and walkers alike the chance to test themselves in a very different setting to all other races, as it never once leaves the strand. The route for both races is what’s called an ‘out and back’ style course, meaning the start and finish are in the same place. Participants will set off from Fahamore in the world famous Maharees peninsula and they then head west along the beach. . The chance to run on one of Ireland’s longest beaches, under the shadow of Ireland’s second highest peak Mt. Brandon while never leaving the Wild Atlantic Way are a huge attraction . Entry for the event costs €25/€35 which includes a bespoke event medal, an event tech t-shirt plus timing chip for all participants. Online registration is currently open on www.brandonbayhalfmarathon.com or anyone interested can come to our registration evening in the club rooms in Castlegregory on Friday 15th from 5pm. The event is organised by the local soccer club Castlegregory Celtic FC as a fundraiser and the club also make a donation to local charities from the proceeds. The Brandon Bay HM/10k event also coincides with the Castlegregory summer festival, so it is definitely a superb time to visit the Brandon Bay area. For info & updates see www.brandonbayhalfmarathon.com, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
CHANGING FACE OF SUCCESS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ROSE OF TRALEE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL Dublin, 23rd June: Enterprise Ireland today launched the International Business Women’s Conference to be held in conjunction with the Rose of Tralee international Festival on Monday August 22nd in the Brandon Hotel, Tralee. In its second year, the event gathers leaders from across the business and entrepreneurial spectrum to celebrate the business achievements and success stories of women today.
This year’s conference theme is ‘The Changing Face of Success’ focussing on strong female role models leading by example and empowering women to fulfill their ambitions. Senior female figures such as Eleanor McEvoy and Norah Casey from Dragons’ Den will share their experiences and insights on themes such as leadership, linking the digital age and entrepreneurship. Announcing the conference, the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD said: “I am delighted that the International Business Women’s Conference is in its second year. This is a hugely important and inspiring event which brings together successful, inspirational female entrepreneurs. It is great to see the range and diversity of the speakers that will be attending the conference. Promoting the achievements of women actively encourages others to aim high and in turn creates a valuable contribution to both the economy and society here in Ireland. Creating the environment for more start-ups to develop and grow is a key priority for me and female entrepreneurs can play a major role in job creation.” Sponsored by AIB, the Department of the Diaspora and media partner Tatler, conference delegates will also hear from the Rose of Tralee, Elysha Brennan, as well as previous Roses including 2005 Rose of Tralee, Dr. Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin. Speaking at the launch, Enterprise Ireland CEO, Julie Sinnamon said: “Enterprise Ireland recognises the huge contribution of Irish women in business. Last year we invested in a record number of female-led start-up companies. The International Business Women’s Conference aims to inform and inspire women to embrace business opportunities, leverage the Irish global network and reach their full potential.” Head of Business Banking at AIB, Catherine Moroney said: “AIB is fully committed to supporting all our customers and businesses with a particular focus on facilitating our female entrepreneurs and women in business to realise their full potential. We are delighted to be involved in this event with Enterprise Ireland and other partners to promote and sponsor the 2016 International Business Women’s Conference. We in AIB are looking forward to building the connections and providing the supports to make a difference and empower women to grow and develop their businesses.” Registration and full details on the conference are available at www.internationalbusinesswomen.ie 16

WATCHOUT ! BIKERS RIDING FOR ROTARY CLUB !
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: TAX APPEALS COMMISSION
The Rotary Club of Tralee and the DA Jokerz Mcc are holding their annual Motorbike poker run to commence from the Imperial Hotel Tralee on Saturday the 25th June, sign on from 10am -11.30 ... entrance fee of €10.00 This is aid of water survival boxes. 500 were sent to Nepal last year.and many need to be sent to the recent earthquakes,or any else in the world. For further details of the water boxes pick up a leaflet from the Kerryman or Imperial Hotel The box and its contents will be on display throughout the run. Motorists and Pedestrians are advised of a large gathering of Motorbikes on Saturday morning in Denny Street
Question What is the new Tax Appeals Commission? Answer The Finance (Tax Appeals) Act 2015 came into operation on 21 March 2016. This Act gives effect to a revised tax appeals process and established a new independent statutory Tax Appeals Commission (TAC), which replaces the former Office of the Appeal Commissioners. The TAC adjudicates, hears and determines appeals against Revenue decisions concerning taxes and duties under the Finance (Tax Appeals) Act 2015, the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997 as amended and other related legislation. There are currently two Appeal Commissioners, appointed by the Minister for Finance for a period of seven years. The main change to the tax appeals process is the requirement that all appeals (other than customs duties and Registration Tax “first-stage” appeals) are now made directly to the TAC and not to Revenue in the first instance. The Appeal Commissioners have sole responsibility for accepting or refusing appeals, although Revenue can raise objections to appeals. If both parties agree, the Appeal Commissioners can make determinations based on written submissions (rather than a full hearing). However, you can insist on a hearing if you wish. By default, all hearings are held in public. However, you can request that a hearing (or part of a hearing) be held in private. To improve the transparency of the appeals process, the Appeal Commissioners are required to publish anonymised versions of all of their determinations. Another significant change is that appeals can no longer be re-heard before a Circuit Court Judge. You can appeal to the High Court on a point of law, but not in relation to the facts. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... STRAND ROAD JOIN WITH CAHERSLEE & ROCK STREET IN COMMUNITY GAMES
SEAN TAAFFE GROUP ANNOUNCED AS FINALISTS IN PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS
Multi-award winning salon group, Sean Taaffe Hair and Beauty have been announced as finalists in the Best of the Best: Irish HAIR Photographic Awards. Sean Taaffe as well as the following members of the Sean Taaffe team were amongst those announced in multiple categories - Sean Taaffe and Martha Plechowska, Hair categories as well as Sandra Flynn, Make Up and Ingra Jonutyte, Nails.
U14 Gold Relay Team: Grace Starett , Grace O’Connor, Lara Flynn, Rebecca O’ Connor The 2016 Kerry Community Games took place on the 11th and 12th June at a sunny An Riocht Track in Castleisland. It was great to see the number of competing athletes up on previous years and the fantastic weather boosted the numbers who travelled from the four corners of Kerry to support their children. The Community Games June weekend has always been the focus of many young aspiring athletes. To win a medal is seen as a great achievement as very few athletes battle through the heats, quarter finals, semi finals before lining out with the best eight young athletes of their age group in the final. Competition is keen and the support and good will among our young people is inspiring. Parents, coaches and friends are six deep at the finish line to get a good vantage point and the cheering and clapping gives everyone a rush of excitement. My admiration for the eight judges on the day is immense as they go into conclave before emerging with the agreed 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions……well done judges. This year our area expanded as we joined forces with Strand Road and were delighted that this famous sporting area is back competing in the Community Games after being away for a number of years. The committee would like to thank Linda Reilly ,John and Michelle Flynn for the training sessions with the children over the last month and it certainly paid off !! We would also like to pay particular thanks to our Chairman Eamon Reilly and Secretary Linda Reilly for their stellar work at helping to organise the various events over the years. Eamon and Linda have indicated that they may be stepping down this year. Thanks Eamon and Linda for your commitment!!
Martha Plechowska is also in the running for the Alternative Hair Visionary Awards, which will see the winner representing Ireland at the global hair event of the year and Alternative Hair Show ‘ODYSSEY”, held in the Royal Albert Hall on October 16th in aid of ‘Fighting Leukaemia’ The event will be on Sunday, 26th June 2016 in the Mansion House, Dublin Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty was established as a one man operation in Killorglin in 1989. Since then the company has expanded seven times, with locations in Killarney, Tralee and Killorglin, and a team of 60 talented professionals.

Bexblah Beauty This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens
Hello my beautiful friends! This week I will be talking SKINCARE! So let’s get into it
MY SKINCARE ROUTINE
If you know me, or are an avid reader of this page, you know I suffered with acne for YEARS. I tried everything. From medicinal treatments to natural treatments to going on the contraceptive pill, unfortunately, none of that worked for me. So last year I was recommended by my dermatologist, Dr Noirin Ni Scannlain, to try Roaccutane, it worked! I love makeup, and good makeup starts with a good base. I never really had a set skincare routine that I found worked well for me. I used a lot of products like Simple, Neutrogena, and other brands at that price point. Kiehls uses a lot of natural ingredients and Kylie Jenner has named their Avocado Eye-Cream as one of her must haves! It is important to note, if you want to change your skin routine, DO NOT change it all at once, this will cause what’s known as a ‘Detox Breakout’ due to using so many new products at once. Introduce one product first, then another a few days later and so on. So here’s what I use and what ‘my routine’ looks like in order of what I do…
EXFOLIATOR: KIEHLS RARE EARTH DEEP PORE DAILY CLEANSER.
I use this to exfoliate every 2-3 days, there is no need to exfoliate every day. This contains Amazonian White Clay and it gently exfoliates to help eliminate surface toxins and it helps reduce the appearance of pores! This is great for me as I have quite big and noticeable pores, I have definitely noticed a difference. You also only need the tiniest amount, it goes such a long way. I just wet my face with luke-warm water, apply it to my nose, chin and cheeks and massage in in circular motions. And then I rinse off with lukewarm water, not hot! It’s €21.50, which isn’t a crazy expensive price, when it comes to your skin it’s worth it.
CLEANSER: KIEHLS CALENDULA DEEP CLEANSING FOAMING FACE WASH After exfoliating (if I am exfoliating that day) I use this. I only got the sample size when I purchased other products but I will definitely be purchasing! The sample size is only 30ml and I have been using it daily for about a month, and it just ran out. That shows how little product you have to use. The cleanser gently lifts away impurities, dirt, and oil without stripping skin, which means it’s safe for sensitive skin. It costs €27 for the 230ml bottle or you can get a 75ml bottle to try for like €10. The 230ml bottle will easily last at least 3 months so it’s good value for money.
TONER: KIEHLS ULTRA FACIAL OIL-FREE TONER.
Am I the only one who never used toner? When the skincare specialist suggested it I thought she was just trying to get me to spend more money, which isn’t too hard. But she went on to explain all the benefits of using a toner such as restoring the pH balance of your skin, having a balanced pH level means your skin is less prone to oiliness and infection, creating a more vibrant and smoother appearance. Pore shrinkage and tightening, facial toners tighten your facial pores, allowing fewer oils and toxins to settle into the skin. This creates a fresher, cleaner and less oily appearance while preventing acne. Hydration and Nourishment, Facial toners provide hydration to your skin, which is essential to maintaining elasticity, smoothness, moisture and a more youthful appearance. Proper skin hydration reduces the signs of aging skin and provides an effective base for the application of facial cosmetics. So with all those benefits, it is SO important to use a toner. I have 100% noticed a difference in my skin since introducing toner. After cleansing, I pat my face dry with a towel and then apply the toner on a cotton pad all over my skin. This toner is alcohol free and oil free, alcohol free so it does not dry out the skin which is very important when buying a toner. If you don’t have a toner as part of your skincare routine, I highly recommend you start. The 250ml bottle is €18 and I have been using it every day, twice a day since I got it.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s page and are ready to glow like the goddess that you are! Now stop reading and get yourself a highlighter.
Stay Gorge,

Bexblah Fitness! Hello everyone! Hope you’re having a great week. This week I’m talking all about how to stay motivated & the benefits of morning exercise! I myself am not the best morning person, at all. But I’ve been researching the benefits of morning exercise and I must say, it makes me think twice about pressing that snooze button! • • • • • •
When you exercise early in the morning, it “jump starts” your metabolism and keeps it elevated for hours. That means you're burning more calories all day long just because you exercised in the morning! Exercising first thing in the morning is the only way to assure something else won’t get in the way of your workout. If you are hit with a really busy day your exercise could be put on the back burner! Exercising in the morning energizes you for the day, not to mention that gratifying feeling of virtue you have knowing you’ve done something disciplined and good for you. More than 90% of those who exercise consistently have a morning fitness routine. If you want to exercise on a regular basis, the odds are in your favour if you squeeze your workout into the a.m. Studies have shown that women and men who wake up early for regular exercise sleep better than those who routinely exercise in the evening. Since exercise stimulates your body, when you exercise at night, it becomes more difficult to fully relax and drift into peaceful sleep. By knocking out your exercise first thing, you will approach your food differently throughout the day. You will be proud of yourself for getting up and burning some calories, so why sabotage it with an unhealthy lunch? Instead, you will want to continue your positive choices by eating foods that make you feel fresh and energized.
HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED! Think Positive: I am a huge believer in the power of positive thinking! Instead of saying ‘I hope I don’t gain weight’ say ‘I will lose weight’. Positive thoughts can turn into positive things. Make Goals: To help stay on track I find it’s best to make goals, both longterm(monthly) and shortterm (daily/weekly). If you don’t make goals it is very easy to fall off the wagon! Visualise: Visualise yourself when you are at your goal weight/ fitness level. Buy a dress the size you strive to be and hang it in your room, print out motivational quotes and images and stick them up! Do whatever works best for you. Reward Yourself: For every goal you reach it’s good to have a corresponding reward. For example, a new pair of shoes, a spa trip, new workout gear, a night out with the girls. Change up your workout: If you stick to the same workout routine everyday you could get bored and your workouts could become less effective. It’s good to change up your workout routine every week or so to keep both your body and mind motivated.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE A BLONDE’S BRAIN AT WORK
A blonde, a brunette and a redhead all work for a female boss who always goes home early. “Hey girls,” says the brunette. “Let’s go home early tomorrow. She’ll never know.” So the next day, they all leave right after their boss. The brunette gets some extra gardening done, the redhead goes to a bar, and the blonde goes home to find her husband having an affair with her female boss. She quietly sneaks out of the house and returns at her normal time. “That was fun,” says the brunette. “We should do it again sometime.” “No way,” says the blonde. “I almost got caught.”
THANK GOD
A man is at a looking to buy a horse, the horse trader leads him to a majestic white stallion. The horse trader said: “This horse can understand three commands, if you want it to walk, say ‘Praise God’, if you want it to gallop say ‘Thank God’ and if you want it to stop say ‘Oh My God’. “ The man did not believe the horse trader, so he requested to try it out. He got onto the horse and then said: “Praise god.” The horse started walking. He then said “Thank god” and the horse started galloping towards the end of the cliff. The man panicked and forgot the phrase to stop the horse, it looked as if he was about to fall, he shouted out of fear: “Oh my god!”, the horse stopped. The man, being relieved, said “Thank god...”

A PRIEST IS TAKING A CAB HOME FROM CHURCH
A priest is taking a cab home from church after a long day of services. It’s night and it’s raining heavily. Suddenly the taxi hits a pothole. The driver mutters under his breath “F**k!” Seconds later, they hit another pothole and the driver says “S**t!” The priest has finally had enough, “Son, don’t use these words, they anger our Good Lord. Say for instance, ‘Lord help us’” The cabbie reluctantly agrees. As they drive on, they hit a really big pothole and the entire wheel falls off! The cabbie remembering the priest’s words says “Lord help us!” Suddenly, the wheel stops, rolls back, and snaps back on! “What the f**k?” said the priest.

TORQUING CARS! CAR VS TRAIN: CAN THIS LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SPORT PULL A 100-TONNE TRAIN?
An incredible video released by Land Rover shows one of its top-of-the-range vehicles towing a 100-tonne train.(See it on YouTube) In the short film made by the British motor company Jaguar Land Rover, a Land Rover Discovery Sport tows a train 60 times its own weight. The three luxury train carriages were the same weight as a Boeing-757 airplane. Read more: Vote Leave fan with an English Defence League tattoo meets Boris Johnson And engineers then went one step further, by performing the dramatic stunt on an 85ft high bridge. In total, the car pulled its load 10km through the Rhine region of northern Switzerland on the Museumsbahn Stein am Rhein track which crosses the River Rhine on the Hemishofen bridge - a steel span measuring 935 feet long and 85 feet above the valley floor. Helped only with castors to keep the car on the railway track, the Discovery Sport was able to pull 60 times its own weight. Its certified maximum towing weight is just 2.5 tonnes. The stunt was designed by Land Rover engineers to clearly show the strength and capability of the Discovery Sport, echoing a similar feat performed in 1989 for the launch of its ancestor, Discovery I. Karl Richards, Lead Engineer for Stability Control Systems at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Towing is in Land Rover’s DNA, and Discovery Sport is no exception.I’ve spent most of my career travelling to the most punishing parts of the world to test Land Rovers in gruelling conditions, yet this is the most extreme towing test I’ve ever done.” Land Rover said the car was unmodified apart from the stabilising castors Managing Director James Platt, said: “No modifications were necessary to the drivetrain whatsoever and in tests the Discovery Sport generated more pull than our road-rail Defender, which is remarkable.”
CAMPERVAN WEDGES UNDER LOW BRIDGE AS THEY DRIVE THROUGH FRANCE
The five hapless fans crashed the motor home ahead of Wales’ opening clash with Slovakia at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux stadium. This is the devastating moment five hapless Wales fans crashed their campervan into a low bridge en route to the Euro 2016 finals. The five friends were driving the rented motorhome to Bordeaux to watch their country’s opening clash with Slovakia when their satnav directed them under the bridge and disaster struck. Among them was Reece Carter, from Bridgend, Wales, who said he and his pals were having an “awesome” time meeting other Welsh fans during the trip until the calamity in a town just north of Le Mans. Reece said: “I missed the low bridge following the sat nav, in a town just north of Le Mans. “I was driving and to be honest I didn’t give the bridge a thought until a few seconds before impact. I slammed the brakes on but by then it was too late. “It’s kind of funny now, it just hurt pride at the time. I guess it’s just one of those things... bloody SatNavs.” The unfortunate accident caused traffic chaos, with tailbacks of around 40 minutes after the motor home got lodged,
TOYOTA ONCE AGAIN PROVES THAT HILUX IS THE OFF-ROAD KING
The stats are impressive: Since the 60s the Hilux has sold a staggering 18 million vehicles worldwide. With a 2.4-litre D-4D engine, its power and ruggedness are a given. But this eighth generation workhorse is also comfortable and a genuine a pleasure to drive.Earlier that day we’d taken the 4x4 into the desert dunes near Swakopmund on the west coast of Namibia. It performed impressively, churning through the soft, loose sands confidently, even on steep slopes. It was here the downhill assist control came into its own - a flick of the switch and the most looming of descents were a cinch. It’s safe too, boasting a high-strength, impact-absorbing structure and one extra is Toyota’s Safety Sense, a pre-collision system, lane departure warning and road sign assist. On top of this safety-conscious drivers can take comfort in braking and control systems including ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution, stability control and trailer sway control. But what about the looks? Toyota has an eye firmly fixed on the leisure market and this Hilux is the most aesthetically pleasing yet. While maintaining its aggressive profile, including the trademark clamshell bonnet, the new design is sleeker and more refined. This design philosophy extends to the interior. It’s undoubtedly a comfortable ride and has excellent visibility. It’s surprisingly quiet too, thanks to expansion foam throughout the bodyshell. Now, to the engine. More than 60% of seventh-gen sales were with the muscular three litre engine. So why Toyota has opted to restrict Europe to the 2.4 litre diesel – while the rest of the world can enjoy the 2.8 – is a bit of a mystery. It still puts out 148bhp and 295lb ft - more torque than the last gen 3.0-litre. Whether that’s enough to divert drivers’ attention from VW’s new Amarok V6 and Ford’s 3.2-litre Ranger is open to debate.Nonetheless, Toyota has once again proved why it dominates the pick up market. Power, safety, comfort, space and style? Long live the king.(Daily Mirror )

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR FAILTE TO FEILE: This weekend the GAA playing fields of the county become international sporting arenas with the Feile Peile na nOg taking place. This is a huge undertaking for the local committee and they have put month of work into the organisation of the event. The numbers taking part show the scale of the event with 125 visiting teams (80 boys and 45 girls teams) joining 125 Kerry teams, 6000 players taking part in 630 games and over 1,500 homes in the county hosting the visitors. The last time Kerry hosted the Feile was in 1994, when the competitions was only 10 years old. However the event, 22 years on, bares very little resemblance to that competition. The Parade: Off the field the highlight will be the Parade, indeed the 9 parades that will take on Saturday evening. Starting at all venues at 6.30pm the Tralee Parade sets off from Austin Stacks Park and passes through Boherbue, past the Ashe Memorial Hall, through the town park and onto the Rose Hotel. With a few speeches and entertainment this promises to be a memorable evening for both the local teams and all the visitors. The Teams: In Division 1 Group A Austin Stacks take on Laune Rangers, St James of Galway and Nemo Rangers from Cork. The games take place in Connolly Park and also in Killorglin. Division 6 will be hotly contested with Kerins O’Rahillys and John Mitchels meeting each other. The other teams in Group B are St Michaels from Sligo and Gloucestershire. St Pats are in Division 9 Group A with Dingle and visitors from Philadelphia from the US and Gracefield from Offaly. In the Girls John Mitchels are in Division 4 Group D where they play Currow, St Brides (Louth) and Glencar Manorhamilton (Leitrim). Games will be played at the two Kerry venues. Kerins O’Rahillys are in Division 5 Group C up against Beale/Ballyduff, Ballysaggart (Waterford) and Loughrea (Galway). John Mitchels girls play in Division 6 Group 1&2 with St Senans / Finuge, Kingscourt from Cavan and London. Games take place on Friday from 5pm, starting Saturday at 11am and Sunday from 11.30 which is play-off and finals day. The Cup finals are set for 2pm in all Divisions. Talking Sport and all at the Tralee Advertiser welcomes all those involved in the Feile to Tralee and hopefully you might even get a chance to enjoy our issue!! NEW MANAGER OF THE KERRY U17’S: With the Euro’s on-going there could be a number of managers out of work before the end of the tournament. As we always here it’s a results based business and locally we will have a new manager in the hot seat when the Kerry u17’s resume their Airtricity League campaign this Sunday. They are at home to Salthill Devon with Darren Aherne in charge for the first time.

The FAI Regional Development Officer for Kerry certainly knows the players and also from his coaching role in the FAI Regional Academy he will know if there are players he can bring in to get that first elusive point. Darren has asked Danny Diggin’s to stay on and I think this is a good move as the Park coach has a good rapport with the players on top of his coaching abilities. Also staying are Trevor Nagle and Graham O’Neill and I understand a goalkeeping coach is working with the keepers during the summer break. It is very important that the KDL gets the support it needs, including financial, to keep this project alive for the next number of years. It gives our elite players a great opportunity to play at the highest level without leaving their home county. Sunday’s game kicks off at 2pm at Mounthawk Park and there will be interesting to see if Darren signs any new players in the transfer window. Coming up shortly is another vital game in the Cup against Limerick so it’s exciting times ahead for our u17 Airtricity League team. 7TH THE REWARD FOR THE KENNEDY CUP SQUAD 2016: Anyone who read last week’s column will have seen the trend emerge at the Kennedy Cup of Kerry creating but not taking their chances. Indeed to say that is a little unfair on the players as we did everything to score but it wasn’t to be including opposition keepers have man of the match performances and the fact that we hit the crossbar on 6 occasions during the week. In the end we lost to an og in the Plate semifinal but ended our campaign on a high with a 1-0 win over our neighbours the Desmond League. The gaol came from Sean Kennedy who had an excellent week. It means that when the coefficients were worked out Kerry are the 4th best team on finishing positions over the last three years. Only ahead of Kerry are the DDSL (Dublin’s biggest League), Galway and Kildare. Well done to all the players and management on another very good tournament from a Kerry point of view. And best wishes to the players who have been invited across channel by clubs in what we hope could be the start of a big adventure. JOHN ON TOP FOR FIRST TIME WIN: Round 4 of the Cycling Clubs Road Race League was hosted by Tralee Manor West iBike and was different from the previous rounds. While the first 3 rounds has comprised of laps of a circuit this round was a race from the start at Ballycarthy Roundabout, through Farranfore, onto the By Pass and up the Fahaduff and Reanagowan climbs to the finish line at the summit. And it was a delighted John Carroll of the host club who took the win, his first in the League. After crossing the line he said he was thrilled with the win. “It is a tough course but I enjoyed it even if it was windy” The Chain Gang’s Christo Murray took a good

second followed by Shane Fleming (Manor West iBike) and Sliabh Luachra’s Donie Kelliher in 4th. The final points on the night went to Tom Barrett and Michael O’Sullivan. Currow CC’s Suzanne O’Sullivan was the first woman across the line ahead of Sinead McCarthy. iBike Dominate the u16’s: Tralee Manor West dominated the u16’s on the night with Kieran Coggins taking the win from David Fitzgerald, Robbie Scott and Jake Deering with Patrick White taking 4th. Shane, Tara and Sean take underage victories: The u12 and u14 races also started at Ballycarthy but these finished just beyond the top roundabout on the By Pass. Second in the 12’s was Kingdom’s Adam Lenihan with Kingdom’s Zac Boyle 4th with his club mate Eoin Hilliard next across the line. There was a great turn out again in the u14’s and the girls section was won by Killarney’s Tara Russell Kissane. Kingdom’s Faith Hilliard took second with Almha Russell Kissane 3rd and Sarah McGrath fourth. Making it a good night for the host club, Tralee Manor West iBike, Sean Barrett took the victory in the u14’s. Killarney CC’s Patrick Galvin was 2nd with another Manor West iBike rider Eoin Maloney 3rd. Killorglin’s Tadgh O’Shea took 4th and Ronan Leahy from Kanturk CC 5th. Killarney CC’s Stefan Caulfield Drier was 6th taking the last of the League points on the night. TEAM TIME TRIAL: This Thursday night it’s Round 4 of the iBike Kerry Time Trial League with this week being the Time Trial. The seniors and u16’s will combine into teams of 3 with the u12’s and u14’s racing in teams of 2. Points will be awarded to all the riders in the teams that finish. The Team Time Trial record is 26.06 held by George Doyle, Cathal Moynihan and Jerry McCarthy which could fall on the night. MUNSTER CHAMPS: At a wet and windy Munster Road Race in Blarney there was success for Kerry riders. Killarney’s CC’s Eoin O’Connell went back across the border to win the A1 Munster Championship. The rider, who was on the Kerry team in the An Post Ras, finished ahead of Tralee’s Sean Lacey who was third A1 home with Cathal Moynihan just a few places back in 5th. Kenneth Leahy took the honours in the A4 category while the Junior’s was won by Oran Pierce. Killarney CC brothers Shane and Patrick Galvin had a very good day with Shane winning the u11 race to take his first Munster title and Patrick got 2nd in the u13’s. In the u14’s Tom Moriarty took the title with Sean Barrett finishing in the bronze medal position. David Fitzgerald was third in the u16 category with Kieran Coggins 4th. However Kieran was very impressive being the first u15 home and brings home another gold medal. OUTSIDE THE COUNTY: 2nd in Roundwood: Tralee Manor West iBike’s Ciaran Slattery finished a very good second in the Roundwood GP in Naas. This will see him upgraded to A1 which is a major achievement as he was competiting as an A4 rider only last August. GP Off: Tralee Manor West iBike have

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES announced that they will not be holding the Tralee GP, pencilled in for July 10th. They have sited ‘logistical, scheduling and Health and Safety concerns’ and say that ‘the integrity of the event and the welfare of both the participants and the wider community had to be their priority’. KERRY CRICKETERS BUSY WEEKEND: Kerry cricketers started their busy Bank Holiday weekend with a 1 wicket loss to Tipperary. Kerry were all out for 183 with Tipperary making 185 for 9 and the 1 wicket win. But the Kerry players bounced back with two wins. They scored an impressive 235 against Cork Harlequins and had the Cork side out for 109 giving them a 127 run win. Kerry also took on Tipperary and in a cracker scored 136 and then had Tipperary out for 135 for a 1 run win!! On Monday they took on Cork County and were a little tired and were all out for 132 which Cork reached easily making 133 for 3 and a 7 wicket win. North Kerry’s cricketers: The North Kerry cricketers were defeated by UCC, in their first home match of the season. The batting was fragile and they scored only 78, however encouraging to see the lower order show some resilience and good technique. UCC knocked off the runs in less than 20 overs for the loss of two wickets. Team spirit remains high despite this setback but certainly more practice is needed to get form and confidence back WHEEL ROCK SWIM THIS WEEK:
After 2 Rounds of The World Series Sinead Kelliher leads the points table on 7 points, but with 5 more on 6 points hot on her heels there is a lot so swimming to be done yet. It is great to see the ladies doing so well with no less than 8 in the top ten. Arguably the toughest of the World Series of Swims by the Tralee Bay Swimming Club The 1400 meter Wheel Rock swim took place this week off Fenit. We will have the results next week and see if Dylan Fitzgerald’s fastest time of 18 minutes 35 seconds is beaten. Training: Training is on-going for the Derrymore to Fenit Cross Bay Challenge. 21 swimmers are on the start list will 11 on a waiting list. Training
is going well with the swimmers covering over 7000m this week, trying to avoid the annual invasion of Jellyfish!! COMMUNITY GAMES ATHLETICS RESULTS: One of the biggest sporting days in the calendar is the Community Games Finals with qualification for the Community Games All Ireland’s the prize for the winners. There was lots of Tralee success and we wish all the athletes from the local Community games clubs all the best for the summer competitions. If you are a PRO of one of these clubs please keep us updated of all results during the next few months. Caherslee/Strand Road/Rock Street: This year the club area expanded as they joined forces with Strand Road and were delighted that this famous sporting area is back competing in the Community Games after being away for a number of years. The committee would like to thank Linda Reilly, John and Michelle Flynn for the training sessions with the children over the last month and it certainly paid off! They also want to pay particular thanks to Chairman Eamon Reilly and Secretary Linda Reilly for their stellar work at helping to organise the various events over the years. Eamon and Linda have indicated that they may be stepping down this year and if so everyone involved in Community Games thanks them for all they have done. CAMOGIE NEWS: Kerry went down 1-12 to 0-10 to Roscommon in the Liberty Insurance All Ireland Camogie Junior Championship after a hugely exciting game played in tough conditions in the Austin Stack Park. Kerry were 1-08 to 0-04 points down at half time but came out of the blocks the quicker at the start of the second half. However Roscommon were always in control and ran out winners despite the best efforts of the Kerry girls. The Kingdom still have a number of games to play, starting with a trip to Dublin this Sunday in this competition and hopefully that elusive win is not too far away. The Kerry scorers were Patrice Diggin 0-05, Jessica Fitzell , Jacqueline Horgan, Laura Collins, Alanna Maunsell and Orla Young all 1 point each. Congrats to Cillard- Feile Champions: Cillard travelled to Waterford to take part in the John West Feile Na Gael Camogie championships and came home with the trophy. They won Division 4 thanks to wins over teams including Eglish St Pats from Tyrone in the final 2-17 to 2-4. The girls defeated Kilsheelin from Tipperary in the semi-finals. The brand of camogie played was a credit to the squad and management and trainers and they did Kerry proud. ST PAT’S STORIES: Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 9,16,17 and 26 and the next Jackpot will be e6,000. The draw takes place this Sunday in Skelper Quane’s. Blennerville NS hosted the u6’s and u8’s last week and the u8 player of the week was Darragh Murphy. The u12’s went down to Asdee / Ballylongford in their rescheduled County League game while a depleted u14 team went to Milltown/ Castlemaine. They had to call on some of the u12’s to line-out and they all put up a great fight before going down to the hosts. Feile: Everyone is looking ahead to the weekends Feile where the teams were treated to a welcome parade last night followed by a Barbeque and music. The games begin on Friday
with the first game away to Dingle at 5pm. Senior B Team: The senior B team went down to Clounmacon by a single point 1-11 to 1-10 in Round 5 of the Junior Football League. The St Part Cul Camp takes place between the 8th and 12th of August. Booking is now open. KERINS O’RAHILLY’S NOTES: Round 3 of the Garvey’s Senior County Championship will be played on July 10th when they face the Legion AT 3.30pm. It will be the second of a double header with St Kierans taking on Rathmore at 2pm. In the Credit Union Co League Round 6 the seniors were beaten by Dr Crokes 0-13 to 0-09. They were missing a number of starters and the young Tralee players brought in did well. Tommy Walsh was injured and we all wish him a speedy recovery. The Minors are due to play Austin Stacks in the Gealtee Fuels Division 1 Coiste Tralee Final this Monday June 27th with the venue not decided at the time of going to print. Feile: The club wishes everyone involved in Feile all the best and hope they have a very enjoyable weekend in Tralee and in the County. Juvenile: The u6’s to u10’s will not go ahead this Saturday due to the Feile and all are back during the week at the usual times. The girls train at the normal times during the week as well. Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 7,11, 14 and 15 and the and the next Jackpot will be e2,800. STACKS STORIES: Feile: Everyone is looking forward to the weekend’s Feile and we wish all involved all the best. Juveniles: The u12’s train in mid-week and recently were unlucky against An Gaelacht and had a good draw with Ballymac. The County League has ended and the Central League is set to begin. The u13 Town League will begin on Sunday July 3rd. The u16’s will play in Division 1 of the County League with July 13th set as the starting date. Camps: The club will host the Kerry Bord na nOg Cul Camp from July 4th to 8th with the Stacks own Autumn Football Camp on August 2nd to 5th. ON THE GREEN: TRALEE: In the Scramble the winners were Mary Coughlan, Terry Egan and John Paul Enright. Second were the team of John Casey, Gerard Walsh and Cora O’Mahony with 3rd Anthony O’Connor, Gerard O’Sullivan and Pat Williams. All Ireland Mixed Foursomes – West Munster: Tralee got through two rounds of this competition before going out to Doneraile from Cork 3-2 in the final of their section played in Beaufort. In the opening round Tralee got a walkover from Berehaven and then beat Kenmare 41/2 to 1/2. Senior Cup: This gets underway this weekend at Killarney’s Killeen Course where Tralee will face Glengarriff. Golf journalist Ger Walsh has predicted a Tralee v Ballybunion final on Sunday afternoon with BallyB getting the win – we will see!!
