TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)
Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology How can I get the USA Version of Netflix?
Since Streaming movie content is now illegal in Europe, the next best thing is getting USA Netflix .When you do, it is like using a master unlock code on Netflix. Suddenly, the floodgates of content open wide and you have access to a torrent of new shows and films at your fingertips. Thought you'd watched your way through everything Netflix had to offer? Wrong. You're going to be a couch potato for the rest of your life. Your first port of call is a good VPN service, and while much has been made of their sketchy nature, we do have some that we recommend and trust, such as NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Buffered. VPNs are the best way to securely access USA Netflix in the Ireland. Not only that but VPNs are a great way to keep you private online.
What are the advantages of Installing CCTV
Here are the advantages of CCTV cameras: High sense of security: It will give you every minute detail on what is taking place around your home. Any theft activity can be traced using the video that I recorded. Strangers will not lurk around the house: If you are alone in the house or your child is home alone, it is easy to see a stranger lurking outside. These can facilitate alerting the police in case it is a theft plan and the situation tackled. You will have peace of the mind while in the house or anywhere else: When you leave your home with no one or you leave children alone, it is easy to track what is happening and have peace of the kind where you are. Even nannies will be disciplined and will not think of committing a crime. While in the house, you can see what is happening outside Deterrence: Any thieves or burglars seeing CCTV installation will not attempt to make a move on your property. CCTVs will just keep them off.
Special Offer for July & August We are now giving great deals supplying and installing CCTV systems.

ROSE BALL TICKETS SOLD OUT OVER A MONTH BEFORE START OF 2017 ROSE OF TRALEE FESTIVAL
NORMA FROM PREMIER WORLD TRAVEL ANSWERS YOUR TRAVEL QUERIES.... Q: A few of us are thinking of backpacking or visiting a few places in one holiday... any tips? Barbara, Tralee Whether you travel as a backpacker or not here are a few handy tips that will help anyone planning their holiday. • Most important Travel Insurance Seriously. If you do only one thing before you leave, make it getting travel insurance trust me you will be glad you did. Ask a travel agency for this to make sure you get the right cover for your trip. • Take several copies of your passport and passport pictures with you this can be very helpful if your passport gets lost or if you need to apply for a visa in another country • Let your bank know you will be traveling if not your cards could be blocked. • Make a copy of your travel itinerary give this to a friend or family member so they know where you are and how to contact you in case of emergency. • Get into a routine when checking into your accommodation and checking out so you don't forget anything, also pack the night before so you are not rushing in the morning. • Make sure to keep all your valuables with you and in a safe place this may seem obvious but you would be surprised how many people lose their wallets or money. • Always put some cash or another card in a different location in case your wallet gets stolen. • Wear sunscreen every day if you are doing a lot of traveling it is so easy to get burned. • Try and learn a few words in each country you visit, try their local foods. • If you are having problems trying to connect the flights and accommodation ask your travel agent they will be able to book it all for you and advise on the best time of year to go and help you with the visa. • Most importantly enjoy every minute of it ..... after all you deserve a break !

announces additional Irish date in INEC Imelda May has announced two new dates for this October, University Concert Hall Limerick on 24th October 2017 and INEC Killarney 28th October 2017. Tickets went on sale this Friday morning 14 July at 9am from Ticketmaster and usual outlets.
DON’T BUY A HEARING AID until you send for your free replica LYRIC hearing aid (non-functioning) and your free 30 Day trial voucher at Audiology Medical Services.
In May Imelda played 3 fantastic sold out dates at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre. Her album LIFE. LOVE. FLESH. BLOOD entered the Irish charts at no 2 and spent ten weeks in the top ten. Imelda also recently dropped an incredible live video for album track ‘When It’s My Time’. Discussing the song she recently shared with NPR that she recorded all the backing vocals herself on the gospel inspired track, stating: “I did a gospel choir on “When It’s My Time.” And I tried to make my sound slightly different. And I named them all so it was easier to mix. I was going, can we go back to Gladys? And I was Gladys and Mable on the other one. And I named my different voices…” Check out the interview here “I love those old story songs where you’re taken on a journey from beginning to end,” says Imelda of the track. “Songs you’re riveted with. Like when you’re in the car and you sit in the driveway, because you can’t turn the radio off, you have to listen to the end of the story. I thought, ‘I’d like to write one of them’. The lyrics are about my family, and my daughter, and myself and my life growing up in Dublin. We didn’t have much money but my parents are fabulous, creative and open-minded people. They gave me art and literature and encouraged me to do whatever was in my heart and I want to do that with my daughter.” Produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett, ‘Life. Love. Flesh. Blood’ was recorded over seven days in Los Angeles and features musical contributions from Jeff Beck (on ‘Black Tears’), Jools Holland (on ‘When It’s My Time’) and an accomplished group of backing musicians including the core trio of guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello), drummer Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss) and bassist Zach Dawes (The Last Shadow Puppets, Mini Mansions). Imelda May has become one of Ireland’s most celebrated female artists. Discovered by Jools Holland, who asked Imelda to support him on tour, Imelda has gone on to perform alongside legendary artists including Lou Reed, Bono and Smokey Robinson and can count high profile artists including Bob Dylan (who recently revealed he is a fan of Imelda in a rare interview with Bill Flanagan) and Bono amongst her fans.

WANT TO BECOME A GIRO HERO FOR JIGSAW KERRY THIS SEPTEMBER?
Jigsaw, Ireland’s National Centre for Youth Mental Health, are looking for 60 brave cyclists to join with them for their epic Giro D’Jigsaw cycle tour this September. This three day, eight stage, 470km charity cycle tour of Ireland is taking place from Friday 29th September to Sunday 1st October to raise vital funds to support young people with their mental health. Each cyclist will experience life like a cycle pro, starting their journey from the rugged coastline of the Wild Atlantic Way in Galway to the gorgeous coast of the Irish Sea along Ireland’s Ancient East and back again. The challenge aims to raise over €50,000 to support Jigsaw’s work improving the lives of young people experiencing mental health difficulties. Speaking at the launch of the event, two time Giro cyclist Gabriel Greally said, “It’s a really fun experience for a leisure cyclist. Being able to do a cycle over a number of days, without having to worry about the logistics, means you can enjoy the cycle and all the fun and banter along the way. It’s a wonderful experience.” You can register your interest in taking part online at jigsaw.ie/giro, or by calling the Jigsaw Fundraising Team on 091 549 252. There is a €50 registration fee, and participants asked to raise a minimum of €750 to take part. Jigsaw will be there with you every step of the way, giving ideas and support to help you reach your fundraising target.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! TRUMP SAID... Trump said in his campaign that if I voted for Clinton, I would be stuck with a criminal president under constant federal investigation from day one. Turns out, he was right. I voted for Clinton and I’m stuck with a criminal president under federal investigation from day one.
I TOLD MY SON, “YOU WILL MARRY THE GIRL I CHOOSE.”
He said, “NO!” I told him, “She is Bill Gates’ daughter.” He said, “OK.” I called Bill Gates and said, “I want your daughter to marry my son.” Bill Gates said, “NO.” I told Bill Gates, My son is the CEO of World Bank.” Bill Gates said, “OK.” I called the President of World Bank and asked him to make my son the CEO. He said, “NO.” I told him, “My son is Bill Gates’ son-in-law.” He said, “OK.” This is how politics works.
A MAN WANTS A PET
He walks into a pet shop and says to the owner, “I want to buy a pet, but I don’t want a boring, normal pet. No cats, dogs, or birds, I want something different”. The pet shop owner thinks for a minute, and then tells him that he has a talking centipede. “Really”? the man replied, “How much would this cost”? The owner tells him that the talking centipede is $75. Happy with the unusual offering, the man pays the shop owner and takes his new pet home. Once he got home, he lays centipede on the table, and says, “Hello Mr. Centipede, fancy going to the pub for a few drinks”? The centipede says nothing. Figuring it must be tired from the journey, he decides to leave it for an hour and try again later. An hour later he comes back and says “Hello mr centipede, fancy going to the pub for a few drinks?” The centipede again says nothing. Starting to get suspicious the man decides he will give it one more 18

hour, and if the centipede doesn’t talk, he will take it back to the shop for a refund. An hour later the man returns and says “Hello mr centipede, fancy going to the pub for a few drinks”? The centipede replies “I heard you the first time! I’m putting my shoes on”!
A SCOTSMAN MOVES TO LONDON
A young man from the Highlands moved to the big city to seek his fortune. After settling in for a couple of weeks, his mum calls him to check in. “How do ye like the city so far, son?” She asked him. “Ma, it’s just the most wonderful place in the world. So much to see and do. But my neighbours are curious folks. The bloke in the flat next door just pounds on the walls all hours of the night. And the woman in the the other flat wails and screams through the night, yelling ‘Make it stop!’” “Oh dearie,” his mum replied. “They sound rather strange. I hope you’re alright at home though.” The young man responds “Aye, ma, I don’t let it get me down when it happens. I just take a nip of me whisky and keep playing me bagpipes.”
A MAN ORDERS COFFEE
A man enters a bar and the bartender comes over and asks “Can I help you sir?”. The man answers “What does a cup of coffee cost in this place?”. The bartender says “That would be €2.60”. “Alright, I’ll have one.” says the client and he takes 26 10c coins out of his wallet and he throws them on the ground. The bartender doesn’t want to make a scene so he just picks up the money and he brings the man his coffee. A week later, the same man enters the bar. He orders a coffee again but this time he pays with a five dollar bill. The bartender smelled an opportunity for revenge and when he brings the coffee, he throws 48 5c coins on the ground as change. The client threw 2 extra 10c coins on the floor and orders a second coffee.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... FINAL CALL FOR NON-PROFITS IN KERRY TO ENTER THE COCA-COLA THANK YOU FUND €100,000 available for community projects that support and inspire young people Not-for-profit and community organisations in Kerry were today called on for the final time to apply for the CocaCoca Thank You Fund before the July 14th deadline. The Coca-Cola Thank You Fund is delivered in partnership with the Irish Youth Foundation and YouthAction Northern Ireland. In 2017, €100,000 will be made available in grants to non-profit and community groups for projects that inspire and support young people. Applications are invited to be made online at www.cocacola.ie/thankyou for new programmes which align with the following themes: • Bridging the divide between education and the workplace • Fostering diversity and inclusion among young people • Empowering young people to become the leaders of the future Sabina Cotter, Head of Grants and Programmes, Irish Youth Foundation said: “The search is on for new projects that will inspire and
support young people. Last year we discovered some fantastic initiatives such as one which focused on building currachs on Inishbofin to teach young islanders the value of teamwork. This a fantastic opportunity for not-for-profit organisations across Ireland to apply for funding for innovative projects to benefit young people” To mark the launch of the Thank You Fund this year, Coca-Cola commissioned research which shows that young Irish people believe their personal happiness is more than three times as important as money when it comes to defining success. Furthermore, the findings show that young people are motivated, with 72% describing themselves as ambitious. Interestingly, females are 15% more likely than males to describe themselves in this way. However, 76% of males said they would prefer to keep their ambitions private compared with 58% of females. The findings show that selfconfidence is an important issue. 45% of young people describe their self-confidence as good but in need of improvement, while 10%
say they have poor selfconfidence. Just 14% say they have high self-confidence, with the rest saying they frequently wish they were more confident. Role models are an important source of inspiration and guidance for young people. 63% of those aged 12-17 say they have a role model, with the number falling to 50% among 18-25 year olds. By far the most prominent role models for young people are one or both of their parents. Just 23% said their role model is a celebrity, while 14% said they look up to a current or former teacher.
Petre Șandru, Country Manager, Coca-Cola Ireland said: “This research points up that young people in Ireland are hopeful for their futures and have a mature interpretation of success. This high level of ambition is great to see – as a society we need to work with our young people to enable them to realise their potential. Confidence is a big issue and we need to develop programmes that will allow young people to become the leaders of the future. Visit Coca-Cola.ie/ThankYou for more information about the Fund.

HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!
Next week I’m heading to Thailand for 3 weeks! I can’t believe that came around so quick! I have been getting my Skincare bits together all week, organisation is key. When I think holiday skincare or even summer Skincare I think hydration. Hydration is key. Between long haul flights and exposure to more heat, humidity and air conditioning than usual, your skin can become dehydrated and dull very quickly if you don’t look after it. I’m not about that dehydrated life, no thanks. When I was packing my Skincare for Thailand I made sure to pack items that would not only hydrate my skin, but also protect me from the sun! First things first, flights. I never ever wear makeup when I’m flying. The dry environment paired with a full face of makeup is the perfect storm for a breakout. No thanks. I actually use facemasks on long haul flight If you don’t want to be totally bare, mascara and a tinted moisturiser is the best way to go. No point being extra and glam on your long haul flight if it’s going to end in you spending your holiday trying to hide a big breakout.
Here’s my holiday Skincare essentials:

Clarins After Sun
Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream For Face SPF 30 - I wouldn’t put anything less than factor 30 on my face. Premature ageing? No thanks. This face suncream both moisturises and prevents sun induced age spots. You can get this in SPF 50+ also, which I only found out. So I will definitely be purchasing that also!
La Roche - Posay Thermal Spring Water - this is definitely not necessary, but I absolutely love it. It’s basically water enriched with minerals that you spray on your face to rehydrate and refresh the skin. Because I’m going to Thailand where it’s extremely humid, this will be good to spray on my face to cool down and refresh, especially mid hike!
Replenishing Moisture Care for Face and Décolleté - After your skin is exposed to sun, it’s essential to use an after sun to soothe and rehydrate the skin.
4
Lancôme Energie De Vie Nuit - This is a night mask full of antioxidants that rehydrates the skin. I’m going to be using this on all of my flights to ensure my skin stays hydrated and fresh. It’s amazing.

Targeting Back Pain Naturally
Do you suffer with back pain? Is it Acute or chronic? Acute pain begins suddenly and may be short lived, whereas chronic pain persists over a period of time. Either way, pain has the ability to turn any life into a living nightmare. What causes back pain? The short answer, LIFE! The back is a very large area of the body, and back pain can encompass a wide range of symptoms and underlying causes. You have a huge amount of nerves radiating from the spine, so the causes of back pain are numerous. Some people put off going to the doctor, because they think pain is a part of ageing, and nothing can help – this is not true. It is always best to see your GP if you have a new pain. The good news is that there is a variety of ways to treat pain. Some treatments may involve medication, but some do not. Some of the more common causes are: Stress: There are many types of stress and they all affect the structures of the body. The body is very adaptable, but like everything, it has its limit, and when it reaches this limit, pain is the inevitable result. It may be LOWER or UPPER back pain. Most people are familiar with being “Stressed-Out”, which refers to mental or emotional stress, that kind of stress usually involves, worry, fear, anger, resentment, grief and other thoughts and emotions. The body reacts to this stress by tensing the muscles, which creates strain on the muscles and the skeleton, and may involve nerve irritation. Physical stress: includes pain from trauma such as an accident, fall, sports injury or a sudden jolt or may be as a result of poor posture or sleeping in an awkward position. Some of the natural pain relief remedies are: MOVIALPLUS: a combination of type ll collagen, Hyaluronic acid, pomegranate extract and vitamin C to support healthy joints. Helps reduce inflammation and pain, while improving mobility and quality of life. May also help with stiffness and pain due to osteoarthritis. QUERCETIN: has potent anti-inflammatory activity There are also a large range DEVIL’S CLAW: shows good results in cases of lower back pain, has anti-inflammatory properties of traditional skin balms and TURMERIC: may be useful in reducing inflammation and symptoms such as pain and stiffness MAGNESIUM: helps with pain relief through the relaxation of tissues through-out the body gels to help reduce REVIVE ACTIVE JOINT COMPLEX: an all in one solution to support cartilage, bone and connective tissue with inflammation and ease powerful MSM to cool inflamed joint tissue Until Next Time, muscle soreness. Stay Healthy,
Deirdre

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS. I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING A FANTASTIC WEEK! This time next week I will be in Chiang Mai Thailand, living my best life. What has that got to do with fitness… let me explain. As you will have seen a few weeks ago, I have changed my body composition quite a bit over the last year, and yeah, I have been that bit more disciplined coming up to my holiday, as most people tend to be. But some people put so much focus on looking good for a holiday that it nearly takes the fun out of it. In the last few weeks I have been doing a few things: ensuring I get to the gym at least 5 times a week, keeping my water intake high and generally making good choices when it comes to food. I haven’t gone on a mad one where I do two gym sessions a day or insane cardio sessions daily. I haven’t given myself a “strict diet” and only allowed myself certain foods. I’ve just made better decisions 90% of the time but there has been a dominos, donut and a night out or two in between. By doing this I don’t feel restricted or that I’m “not allowed” anything so when I get on holidays I won’t go absolutely nuts and eat all the foods I “wasn’t allowed”. You see what I’m getting at here? When I am on holidays, I don’t give a crap! Not that “I’m going to wake up and eat Lays by the pool all day”, kind of not giving a crap. Because I know I wouldn’t want to do that and I love eating food. What I mean by not giving a crap is, I won’t be counting calories or macros. If I want a pizza for lunch I’ll have it or if I feel like fruit for breakfast instead of pancakes I will get the fruit, where as before I would have had the pancakes anyway because “I’m on holidays”. Basically what I’m saying is, yes I will still try and be as balanced as I can because when I eat well I feel good, but if I feel like chips or chocolate I’ll eat
it, and without one bit of guilt. Because yes, I am on my holidays and life is too short! There is no point stressing yourself about how you look on holidays. None. You’re not going to remember how many likes you got on your Instagram bikini picture. You will remember how stressed you were coming up to and during your holiday that you worked hard to pay for. It’s not worth it. Once you’re healthy and happy, that’s what matters!
happy as I am now, because I have worked just as hard to get where I am now. It’s a journey, a process. When I come back am I going to go on a week long detox juice cleanse? Absolutely not. I’ll go back to what I was doing before and trust the process.
You might remember last September I went to Ayia Napa, my figure was a lot different then, was I stressed or upset about it? No. Because I had worked hard to get where I was then. So I was as

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2017 Summer means many things, but one of the best is tomato season. Tomatoes picked at the height of summer are the most delicious, juiciest, plump red fruits you may ever come across. From cute, little cherry tomatoes to gorgeous, colorful heirlooms, you will never run out of varieties to cook with. we grow cherry & heirloom for the restaurant CROÌ which burst with flavour.
GRILLED SALMON WITH MELTED TOMATOES
INGREDIENTS
• • • • • •
6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for rubbing 10 jalapeños, thinly sliced crosswise and seeded 4 pounds ripe beefsteak tomatoes, cored and coarsely chopped Salt One 4 1/2-pound salmon fillet in one piece, with skin Freshly ground pepper
METHOD In a large, deep pan, heat the 6 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the jalapeos in an even layer and cook over moderately low heat, without stirring, until softened, about 6 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the jalapeos to a plate. Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook over high heat until they release their juices, about 4 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the tomatoes to a large bowl. Boil the tomato juices over high heat until thickened, about 8 minutes, adding any accumulated juices from the bowl. Return the tomatoes to the pan and season with salt. Meanwhile, light a grill. Spread out a double layer of heavy-duty aluminum foil thats 12 inches longer than the salmon fillet. Set the salmon in the center of the foil, skin side up, and rub it with olive oil. Using the short ends of the foil as handles, carefully set the salmon on the grill. Cook over moderate heat for 6 minutes. Transfer the salmon to a work surface. Carefully flip the salmon fillet onto a fresh double layer of foil so it is skin side down. Season with salt and pepper. Return the salmon to the grill and cook over low heat until the salmon is just opaque throughout, about 10 minutes longer. Spoon the tomatoes and their juices onto a long serving platter. Using 2 long spatulas, carefully slide the salmon filet onto the tomatoes, leaving the skin behind, if desired. Top the salmon with the jalapeos and serve.
TOMATO GRATIN INGREDIENTS
• • • • • • • •
tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 small red onion, thinly sliced 1 teaspoon thyme leaves 1 3/4 pounds plum tomatoes, sliced crosswise 1/4-inch thick Salt and freshly ground pepper 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar 1 tablespoon butter 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
METHOD Preheat the oven to 176;. Oil an 8-by-12-inch baking dish. In a medium pan, heat the olive oil. Add the onion and thyme and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until the onion is softened, about 7 minutes. Scrape the onion into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly over the bottom. Arrange the tomato slices over the onion in overlapping rows. Season with salt and pepper and drizzle with the balsamic vinegar. Dot the tomatoes with the butter and sprinkle the Parmigiano-Reggiano on top. Bake on the upper rack for about 15 minutes, until the cheese starts to brown and the gratin is bubbling. Let rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... KERRY COUNTY MUSEUM RECOGNISED AT NATIONAL AWARDS Kerry County Museum, Seanchaí “Kerry Writers’ Museum”, and Muckross House, Muckross Traditional Farms and Muckross House Research Library, have been recognised by the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland. Muckross House, Muckross Traditional Farms and Muckross House Research Library and Kerry County Museum retained the Full Accreditation they had previously been awarded, while Seanchaí “Kerry Writers’ Museum” was awarded Interim Accreditation. The Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI), which started in 2006 with just 12 participants, now has 57 museums across the island of Ireland, participating in it. The programme recognises excellence in caring for
collections, museum management, education, exhibition and visitor services.
The Kerry County Museum Assessor commented, ‘Every time I visit the Kerry County Museum I am impressed by some new innovation or exhibition. The term ‘blockbuster’ is not inappropriate for some of the major temporary exhibitions which the museum has staged in recent years, and the current offer: “Casement in Kerry: A Revolutionary Journey” maintains that first class track record. Designed and produced by the museum staff, at relatively low cost, the exhibition is evidence of the museum’s ability to stage wellresearched, topical exhibitions of international as well as local interest. It also illustrates well the efforts of the small but dedicated team in locating and borrowing rare and important items from individuals and major international institutions’. The Chairman of the Heritage Council, Mr.
Michael Parsons, said, “What we see through this programme is that Ireland’s museums are exciting and vibrant places where the staff are working hard, often with very limited budgets and resources, to ensure that the collections in their care are protected and made available to the public. Not only is this important work from a cultural point of view, it also supports tourism in a locality and helps people feel proud of the place where they live”. Mr. Parsons said that taking part in a museum standards programme is a public promise
by each museum to care for the heritage of its community. Achieving accreditation in the MSPI demonstrates that a museum is meeting its promise. “Through MPSI, the Heritage Council is working to improve all aspects of Ireland’s museum practice and, in particular, to raise the standards of care for collections across Irish museums and galleries. A voluntary programme, it has attracted involvement across the cultural spectrum, from national institutions to small, volunteer-led organisations”, concluded Mr. Parsons.
CALL FOR CREDIT CARD FACILITIES TO BE INTRODUCED AT ALL WASTE TRANSFER STATIONS.
Councillor Michael Cahill has called on Kerry County Council to introduce Credit Card facilities at all Transfer Stations in the county, as a matter of priority. Councillor Cahill said he has been approached by members of the Public and business people in Killarney, Milltown, Killorglin, Dingle and Kenmare who said that they pay all their bills with their Credit Card and that such a facility would be a great help. “I believe this facility should be in all of Kerry County Council’s Transfer Stations” stated the Rossbeigh man. The Fianna Fail Councillor said most businesses and Service Providers have Credit Card facilities today and Kerry County Council should have likewise. Councillor Cahill who has submitted a Motion for this month’s meeting of the Council in respect of the matter said “I believe Kerry County Council will adhere to my request, this facility should be in all Transfer Stations in this day and age.” “That Kerry County Council accommodate members of the Public as a matter of priority by introducing Credit Card facilities at all Transfer Stations in the county, ie Milltown, Caherciveen, Dingle, Coolcushlagh, Killarney and Kenmare.”

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... CLUB ÓG ÓGRAS BAILE UÍ THUAIDHG TAKE X-HALE AWARD TO KERRY Club Óg Ógras Baile Uí Thuaidhg from Kerry has been awarded the prize for best Community Campaign at the Irish Cancer Society X-HALE Youth Awards 2017. The group scooped the award for the campaign around its short film “Ná Bac le Tobac” which was showcased at the recent event in the Odeon Cinema in the Point Village in Dublin. Fellow Kerry group the Neighbourhood Youth Project from Killorglin also entered a short film to the competition and attended the awards ceremony in Dublin. Over 300 young people from 40 youth and community groups came together to showcase their anti-tobacco films and projects which they have created to contribute towards establishing Ireland’s first smoke-free generation. While the rate of smoking has seen declines in recent years, 8% (or approximately 40,260) of children and young people between the ages of 10 and 17 are using tobacco. The Irish Cancer Society has said is it vital that this generation of young people give the biggest blow to cancer possible – by not starting to smoke or by getting support to quit. Kevin O’Hagan, Cancer Prevention Manager at the Irish Cancer Society said: “I would like to congratulate Club Óg Ógras Baile Uí Thuaidhg
on winning their prize and for making a positive impact on their health and that of their peers. They have been recognised at this awards ceremony for exceptional effort in their project. “We need to look at what Club Óg Ógras Baile Uí Thuaidhg, the Neighbourhood Youth Project and the rest of the #TheXGeneration are saying. They can be Ireland’s first smoke-free generation and they are telling us in their own way about the dangers of smoking and they are confident enough to share this message with their peers. They are educated on the issue of smoking and are refusing to let their health be affected by tobacco.” X-HALE is an initiative of the Irish Cancer Society which aims to empower young people to work towards reducing smoking among their generation, by raising awareness about the dangers of smoking and encouraging their peers to be smoke free. MYSTERY KERRY PUNTER NABS €12,497 FOR €6 ACCUMULATOR BET!
A plucky Kerry punter’s five horse accumulator has seen them turn a €6 stake into an incredible €12,497.36. The customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, placed a €3 eachway accumulator on the cards at Ayr, Worcester and Windsor on Monday. Their selections at Ayr were Racquet at 4/1 in the 2.15 and Dark Defender at 15/2 in the 2.45. They had one selection at Worcester, Utility at 11/2 in the 4.40, while Sir Titan at 9/4 and Harebell at 4/1 at Windsor completed the savvy selections. With all five horses winning their respective races it saw this Kerry native scoop a fantastic €12,497.36. Aoife Heffron, Spokeswoman for BoyleSports commented “What better way to start the week than by taking €6 and turning it into €12,497.36 like this intuitive Kerry punter who selected five winners across Ayr, Worcester and Windsor on Monday for their each-way accumulator.” She added “The windfall is definitely the perfect Monday pick-me-up and we hope they enjoy their celebrations throughout the week.” 32

Can I use my mother’s Disabled Person’s Parking Permit if I’m doing an errand for her? Answer
The Disabled Person’s Parking Permit can only be used by the person to whom it is issued. The permit shows the name and photograph of the person it has been issued to and you cannot use it unless that person is with you. The permit allows the holder of the permit to use the public parking spaces that are specifically assigned for vehicles being used by a person with a disability. These spaces or parking bays have the wheelchair symbol painted on the ground or have a sign with the wheelchair symbol displayed. Most accessible parking bays are located near amenities such as shops and schools. Car parking spaces with the wheelchair symbol are usually wider than most other car parking spaces to enable drivers or passengers with a disability to get from their car seat to their wheelchair.

TORQUING CARS! YOUNG PEOPLE IN IRELAND & UK ‘PRICED OUT OF DRIVING’ AS COST OF INSURANCE AND TUITION SOARS
The number of young people learning to drive has fallen again this year, with cost being a key factor in the 10-year trend in both Ireland and the UK . According to the research undertaken by Honest John UK, there’s been around a 20 per cent drop in the number of under-25s taking the practical test over the past decade. In the UK alone ,100,000 fewer 17-year-olds took the test this year compared with 2007. Insurance can cost a new driver several thousand euros, depending on their address. Combined with the financial outlay associated with learning to drive in the first place - an increasing number of young people simply cannot afford the luxury of a licence. While the driving test pass rate has crept up from 44 per cent to 47 per cent,in the UK the overall number of people taking the exam has dropped from 1.8 million to 1.5 million. It’s thought that young people account for the bulk of that change. Honest John’s managing editor, Daniel Powell, said: “Put simply, young people are being priced out of learning to drive. Ten years ago, a typical 17-year-old would have booked a driving lesson as soon as they were legally able, but today most young people simply cannot afford to drive.”
DANIEL CRAIG SIGNS UP FOR BOND 25
While Daniel Craig still has one Bond film left of his five-movie contract, the question of whether he will return to the role ever since the actor voiced his disdain for playing 007 during a wearying run of press junkets around the release of Spectre in 2015. But the latest is that Craig will return, according to The Mirror. Reportedly, the actor, who famously said he would “rather slash [his] wrists” than return to the role has agreed to don the spy suit once more, after hearing about the galaxy of stars who were ready to replace him. Idris Elba, James Norton, Aidan Turner and Tom Hardy are among those who have been tipped for the role, although nearly all of them have denied any genuine involvement with the forthcoming Bond film. Craig has been at the centre of the franchise’s most lucrative films to date: Skyfall grossed $1.1 billion at the international box office, making it the highest-ever grossing film for Sony Pictures and the second highest-earning of 2012. Spectre, the 2015 follow-up, is the fourth biggest earner in the franchise’s 53-year-history after Thunderball (1965) and Goldfinger (1964) with inflation. The Mirror also reports that producer Barbara Broccoli is attempting to secure Adele, who won the franchise its first Oscar with her theme for Skyfall, to return for the 25th film. Broccoli is said to be “talking the singer round”. (Eddie Cunningham , Indo Motoring.)
CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED If your car has developed a fault, turn to Honest John by emailing honestadvice@telegraph.co.uk
HOT UNBOTHERED
You advise running a diesel turbo for a while before turning off the engine. Does this also apply to petrol turbos, for example the Ford Focus 1.0-litre three-cylinder Ecoboost? JB Yes, but only when the turbo is extremely hot, which it will be after a long ascent, towing or running at constant speed on the motorway. In normal dayto-day driving it won’t get too hot.
E MISSION IMPOSSIBLE
I want to buy an approved used Mercedes E-class saloon for comfort. Diesels are becoming unpopular, so how can I get a plug-in hybrid? My budget is about €20,000. JW You won’t get a used petrol hybrid E-class because there wasn’t one ). The C350e and E350e petrol plug-in hybrids are new models. It’s better to think along the lines of a used Lexus IS300h on 16-inch wheels with 55-profile tyres. 36

TORQUING CARS! DASH CAMS CAN BE YOUR BEST FRIENDS SO LONG AS YOU’RE IN THE RIGHT
Quite what I was doing scampering around a gravel rally route in a battered Peugeot and faster Subaru I’m not so sure. Ostensibly it was to see how Garmin’s new dash cams (45, 55 and 65w) fared under the onslaught of speed, cornering, handbrake turns in the swirl of grit and dust. As well as that the tiny cams let me record every agonising moment of my driving. And that showed how much I have to learn about handling a car on poor surfaces and being confident enough to use power rather than braking to keep from going off (I didn’t but I nearly did). It was fun, if bizarre, while it lasted; coming half a second behind a rival (I took third spot) was a bitter pill. These latest-gen dash cams are so small yet have real ability in more civilised motoring contexts: on tarmac in traffic, for one. Even more importantly their capacity to record and save sections of events before and after an accident or parking bump could be crucial in determining and apportioning blame and responsibility. Sitting unobtrusively on the top of the windscreen, they also add GPS capabilities for time and location data. There are three versions: 45, 55 (probably most popular) and 65W. They have driver alerts (forward collision and lane departure warnings) and, importantly, with voice control you can keep your eyes on the road while telling them what to do. Technical data alert: Dash Cam 55 provides video captured in 1440p, 1080p, or 720p with a 3.7 megapixel camera. The Dash Cam 45 captures 1080p or 720p with a 2.1 megapixel camera. They claim excellent clarity on the 2in LCD screen. They also give speed-camera warnings and a ‘Go’ alert to prompt reengagement with driving if distracted in stopped traffic. I like the idea of the new parking mode option (cable separately). It automatically records if someone bumps your parked car while you’re elsewhere. I also like the simplicity of how they work. They automatically start recording video as soon as they are plugged in. And for video storage, they include their own replaceable microSD card. Prices for the 45 are from €169 with the 55 from €199.
USED IMPORTS ARE SURGING AHEAD COULD THEY REACH 90,000 THIS YEAR?
This time last year, used UK import registrations were running at a rate of around 5,500 a month. They began picking up after the Brexit announcement and peaked at nearly 8,000 in November before dipping back in December. The late-year increase pushed overall import numbers to more than 72,000, according to official figures. So far this year, imports are averaging 7,500 or so a month. That means every month around 2,000 more cars are being registered than for the corresponding period last year. Can demand continue at that level? And what impact is it having on trade-ins on the domestic market. We at Independent Motors are getting a steady stream of stories from people recounting how much they are saving through buying imports. Their sentiments are reflected in official statistics just published, which show there were 46,006 used cars brought in up to the end of June. That represents a substantial 42.57pc increase on numbers for the first six months of last year (32,269). The official figures are courtesy of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI). And the models most people seem to be buying include the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Passat, Audi A4, Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai i30, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, Opel Insignia and Mercedes E-Class. Ford Ireland chief Ciarán McMahon says New-car sales may be down 10pc in the year to date, but that reduction could have more to do with wider economic concerns than just the effect of UK imports, The Ford Ireland chief goes so far as to suggest that the level of interest in new cars for the 172 July plate is broadly in line with last year. That is echoed by SIMI Director General Alan Nolan. He says the expected decline in buying manifested itself in the first six months. But he anticipates that sales in the second half of the year will stay on track to reach the 132,000 total that was predicted at the start of the year. (Indo Motoring) 38

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR TRALEE ENJOYS INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS AT THE CHILDREN’S GAMES: The 50 strong delegation representing Tralee returned from the International Children’s Games in Kaunas, Lithuania thrilled at the way the tournament went. Credit goes to the athletes but also to the supporters who were the largest in number from any of the participants, further enhancing the town’s reputation at the Games. (Will the possibility of the Games coming to Tralee ever be revived? I think there would be huge backing for this and the town certainly has the facilities both on and off the field.) The squad and supporters enjoyed the sights of the city before the action began, even if the weather was not the best. Like many of the Eastern European countries castles and the old town were the main attractions as it was in Vilnius where the Tralee contingent also enjoyed their visit. The visit to the Adventure Park containing over 100 climbing events and five different graded trails certainly got rid of any travel cobwebs and set the athletes up for the competitive days ahead. Although there are also reports that it was hard to tell who were the teenagers and who were the adults on some of the climbing challenges! The Games: 1,750 athletes from 88 cities took part this year and all were based Kaunas University. The Opening Ceremony was carried live on Lithuanian television showing the status of the International Children’s Games. Athletics: First into action on the track were Sean and Tim Pollmen-Daamen in the 1500m with Sean making the A Final and Tim the B Final where he was just pipped at the post despite knocking an incredible 9 seconds off his heat time clocking 4-33-20. Sean finished 11th in the A final in 4-36-39 and both boys can be proud of the efforts as they were a year younger than most of their competitors. Basit Oyejambi ran well in a strongly contested heat of the 400m but his time of 56.94 saw him finish 4th. Basketball: The team of Mary O’Connell, Aoife Dillane, Rachel Kilgallen and Rebecca Conway took part in the first ever 3x3 basketball competition at the Children’s Games. This fast paced version of the game was played

over 10 minutes, or first to 21, and the Tralee girls went down 17-5 to the hosts Kaunas in their opening game. However the bounced back to defeat Tripoli before going down by just 1 point to Raanana of Israel in a great battle for a quarter final place. While the girls could be forgiven for being disappointed in not reaching the quarter finals they should maturity beyond their years and went on to win their last 3 games to take a very creditable 9th overall ending with 4 wins from 6 games. Those last three wins were over Netanya from Israel, Darmstadt from Germany and Kitchener of Canada. Judo: Sean Murphy in the 45kg competition was involved in two great fights and was unfortunate to go down in both – to an ippon by his Lithuanian opponent and then to his Polish opponent who scored 2 wazari. Chris Palmer won his first bout but eventually lost out in the bronze medal bout to an Israeli opponent after a osaekomi hold down of 20 seconds. Marko Kauric az also went down narrowly in his two bouts but all three judokas performed with intensity and determination and can be proud of their efforts. Soccer: The soccer team contained some of the top talent from the county including Irish internationals Sean McGrath (Park) and Sean Kennedy (Tralee Dynamos) and Philip Evans, Leo Gaxha, Junior Ankomah, Soni Rramani, ( all Tralee Dynamos), Padraig Hilliard, (Castleisland FC) and Kevin Goulding (Ratoo Rovers). They were much too strong for Garliava of Lithuania in their opening game. Against Pesnica of Slovenia it was tied at 1-1 at half time but the Tralee side hit 5 unanswered goals in the second half. Their final group game was much closer as they defeated Kecskemet of Hungary 3-2. Sadly the quarter final against Hungarian side Sopron saw the Tralee side lose 4-2 but that does not tell the story of the game where the boys were targeted with a rash of late and dangerous tackles not being addressed by the referee. Both Sean McGrath and Sean Kennedy ended up in hospital after the game and both came home in plaster. Everyone wishes them a speedy recovery from the knee (McGrath) and ankle (Kennedy) injuries. Friday 14th July 2017
Tralee ICG intends to write to the Technical Commission of the ICG governing body to complain the lack of officiating and sportsmanship in the match. Tralee ICG secretary Mike Culloty said that the overall experience for the teams and supporters remained a positive one despite this one particular game: “It is true that this was a disappointing match, a display of complete lack of sportsmanship. In our 13 years taking teams to the Games this was easily our worst experience on the field of play. However the overall experience of good sportsmanship in competition, of Lithuanian history and culture in our early days in Kaunas, of the wonderful people and their hospitality, and of the significant contribution by our athletes and supporters which enhanced the Games experience of others, will eventually be what is remembered by all. It was fabulous to have so many parents and families with us and they were a constant source of support and help to our athletes and coaches, who once again did a tremendous job supervising and caring for the children. It should be noted that the parents also provided us with many moments of good humour and a bit of craic throughout the week”. The Tralee ICG teams were coached by Liam Culloty, Paul Dolan, Paula Henry and Danny Roche with John Byrne as the head of delegation. BALLYDONOGHUE’S NIGHT AT THE DOGS: Racing at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium this weekend gets underway on Friday night with the first race off at 7.42pm. On Saturday night it’s the benefit night for Ballydonoghue GAA with lots of off course activities including kid’s activities and a top class raffle. The highlights on the track are the semi-finals of the KGOBA A7 525 yards. The track is taking entries for the Rose of Tralee A4 confined 525 yards starting on Friday, July 28th and the Boylesports Derby Trial stake starting on Friday August 4th. WEATHER PLAYING HAVOC WITH THE WORLD SERIES SWIMS: Tralee Bay Swimming club World Series swim organisers are working overtime to get their swims organised as this summer’s weather
is certainly not cooperating. Round 2 did go ahead and this saw Cillian Tierney take the Paddy O’Sullivan Cup as well as being the Group C winner. Dominic Rollo Walker won Group B and Gerard Pierse swimming the fastest time in Group A. We will have results from Round 3 next week which went ahead but not as the Wheelrock. This will be rescheduled to a time when the weather is more suitable. This week also saw Round 4 of the series sponsored by Brendan Dillane Weathermaster pencilled in. This is the Donal Walsh Memorial Swim and was followed by the annual and much anticipated BBQ. The swim is over 1450m. PITCH AND PUTT NEWS: County Pitch and Putt Chairman Declan McCarron ended a very impressive 14th in the World Stroke-Place Championships in Imjeit, Norway over the weekend. Good luck to all the players from the county who are taking part in the National Gents Strokeplay competition in Hillview, Clonmel this weekend. From a Tralee point of view Tony Blake and Jason O’Regan are in the Seniors, Jason Cregan, Alan Hobbert, Eamon Sheehy and Padraig Hobbert in the Intermediate and Gerard Lee in the Juniors. The rescheduled Kerry Juvenile Strokeplay will take place on Monday July 24th starting at 11am in Listowel. TRALEE MANOR WEST IBIKE’S ROUND SEES NEW WINNER: Tralee Manor West iBike hosted the latest round of the Kerry Cycling Clubs Summer League. In a change from previous rounds the format saw the rider’s race from Ballycarthxy Cross to the summit at Reanagown rather than racing laps of a road circuit. Sean wins the Senior Race: Sean Riordan from Valley Wheelers was the winner of a hotly contested Senior race and only jumped clear inside the last few meters. The host club’s Shane Fleming took second place. He was the only one of the top 6 on the League table to score points on the night and moves up provisional 3rd. Third on the night was Tralee Manor West iBike’s Mark Ryall with his club mate Trevor Farmer in 5th. Splitting these was Kanturk CC’s Billy Allen with Darren Burke Killarney CC taking the final points on the night. Tom’s top in the 16’s: Kerry riders competing for O’Leary Stone Kanturk had a good night in the u16 race. Tom Moriarty took the win from Sean Barrett and moves ahead of him at the top of the League. Killarney’s Tadgh O’Shea third place sees him move into that place in the League just ahead of Tralee Manor West’s Eoin Moloney, who was fourth on the night. Kanturk’s Denis Murphy was 5th and maintains his place in the top 5 while Duagh’s Tom O’Connor who is also a member of the Kanturk Club was 6th and is now just a point outside the top 6 in the League. Patrick extends lead in the u14’s: Killarney CC’s Patrick Galvin got

Kanturk’s David Shine, who won the previous round in Currow was second and is now the closest challenger to Patrick in the League. Kingdom CC’s Adam Lenihan took third ahead of Kanturk’s Luke Moynihan and Killarney CC’s Ethan Slattery with Ben Murphy from Sliabh Luachra taking the final League points on offer on the night. All of these riders are battling for a top three spot on the final League table. Evan’s a new winner at 12’s: Evan McConville from Kanturk CC was a new winner in the u12’s League ahead of Killarney’s Shane Galvin. This was Galvin’s first defeat but he still extends his lead on the League table. Kanturk’s Sean Tarrant and Stephen Sheehan were 3rd and 5th with the Killarney’s Louis and Callum Steadman Murphy taking 4th and 6th with Currow CC’s Jack Breen in 7th.
