LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES LAND OWNERSHIP SCENARIO Jason has inherited an old house from his uncle who left it to him in his will. He lives in a different part of the country and he is anxious to sell it and use the proceeds to buy a house where he lives. He is wondering what he needs to do in order to do this. Just because a house is left to a person in a will does not mean that it is immediately ready for sale. Hopefully the house is in the Uncles name and not one of his ancestors. Provided it is in the Uncles name what is required to put it into Jason’s name is a Grant of Probate. The will needs to be proved as valid through a process known as extracting a Grant of Probate, which is applying to the court office, which is a government office of the Department of Justice to validate the Will. What this involves is submitting a list of documents to the Probate Office including a list of his uncle’s assets and debts, which also goes to Revenue and a document from the Executor or Manager of the Will that they will properly administer the estate. Tax and social welfare clearances need to be got in relation to the estate to ensure there is no tax or social welfare due in relation to the estate. Once the Grant of Probate issues from the Probate Office a document known as an assent is signed by the executor and an application from Jason which can then be lodged in the property registration authority to register Jason as full owner of the property in order for him to be able to mortgage or sell the property. With some properties in Ireland a family would occupy the property for years but they might not bother getting out the Grants of Probate or Administration necessary to transfer it down through the generations and this can cause delays if they decide to mortgage or sell the property. One can see therefore that it is important to keep on top of the title to one’s property to make sure it is in order and seeking advice from a solicitor will enable a person to make sure the title is in their name. Law Quip. There is no better way to exercise the imagination than the study of the law. If you have a question we would love to hear it please email mirs@gofree.indigo.ie. QUESTION: "I was at a breakfast meeting recently with our local Chamber of Commerce and another businessman asked had all my staff received their Manual Handling Certs? I thought that its only my employees who handle my deliveries who have to do this course... is this correct ? " John , (Retailer )

M
cEnery CAROLINE SAYS: "Under The Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act 2005, all employers are obliged to provide Manual Handling training to all staff – regardless of their role. This training needs to be refreshed at intervals of no more than 3 years, or more frequently if there is a change in work practices. Apart from your legal obligation, why is it important that Manual Handling training is undertaken in your organisation? In 2014 The Personal Injuries Board made awards of approximately €22.5 million in relation to personal injuries against employers. Manual Handling training records are the first port of call in defending any personal injury claim. In a recent High Court case, a supermarket employee was awarded €67,500 for an injury sustained while lifting a 10kg bag of potatoes. However, the employer appealed the decision and this appeal was upheld. The employee’s solicitor argued that the lifting of this particular item was not explicitly demonstrated during regular Manual Handling training. However, the Appeal Judge agreed with the employer’s argument and stated that although the “precise scenario was unlikely to be covered by any manual handling course, practical or otherwise", it was “obvious from the very start that the pack of potatoes could not easily be moved and, based upon her training, the employee should have assessed the lift in such circumstances to be unsafe”. In other words, Manual Handling training gives employees the knowledge to be able to assess the risk of injury with any given manual handling task. This risk assessment process is covered in-depth during Manual Handling training.
The HR Suite can deliver training specifically for your organisation and also runs public courses that you can register your employees to attend. Our qualified Manual Handling Instructor can advise you on the best delivery option for your organisation. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES Question My child is almost three years old and has a disability. Will he be able to access the free Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) year? Answer Yes, he will. A new programme – the Access and Inclusion Model (AIM) – was launched on 15 June 2016 for enrolments in September 2016. AIM ensures that supports are available for children with special needs so they can fully benefit from the free pre-school year in mainstream pre-schools.

Levels 1–3 provide universal supports designed to promote and support an inclusive culture in pre-schools. If a pre-school provider and a parent think that additional support may be needed to meet the needs of a particular child, they can apply for additional targeted supports under levels 4–7 of the model. These targeted supports include expert early childhood care and educational advice and mentoring (level 4), specialised equipment, appliances and minor alterations (level 5), therapeutic supports (level 6) or additional capitation to fund extra assistance in the ECCE pre-school room (level 7). You access AIM supports through your pre-school service provider. If you have not identified a suitable pre-school for your child, your local City or County Childcare Committee will be able to help you. When you have identified a pre-school for your child, your service provider will consider, in consultation with you, what supports may be needed to ensure that your child can participate fully in pre-school. Applications for supports under AIM are made by the service provider via the Pobal website. Pobal are the current administrators of the ECCE programme so your service provider will be familiar with the Pobal website. The application process is now open and will remain open throughout the year. For advice and support from the Early Years Specialist Service (Access and Inclusion) you can contact (01) 511 7222 or e-mail: onlinesupport@pobal.ie

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... COUNCILLOR CALLS FOR REINSTATEMENT AND PROTECTION FOR NATIONAL MONUMENT IN TRALEE
Cllr Pa Daly has raised the issue of Mondays partial destruction of Sunday’s Well in Tralee. Cllr Daly said “ I have been contacted by numerous people in Tralee and beyond regarding the destruction of Sunday’s well in Lisloose, generations of Tralee people know of this well and of its historical importance to the heritage of the town. I understand that residents in the area had requested that it be made safe but were stunned to see its partial destruction by a JCB yesterday. What is needed is a full explanation on how this was allowed happen to a listed National Monument, the only one of its kind in Tralee. I will be looking for the management of Kerry County Council to give the people of Tralee an assurance that the well be returned to its previous condition and also that something like this is never allowed happen again.” Kerry County Council say that this was not part of the original well but there are conflicting views about this .

The proceeds of the concert will help fund LOST YOUTH’s forthcoming production of Phantom of the Opera which takes to the boards in Siamsa Tire for five performances only form Tuesday to Saturday, September 27th to October 1st. Many of the 65-strong cast will feature in musical numbers from a host of musicals such as The Sound of Musicn, the Wizard of OZ, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Man of La Mancha, Spring Awakening, Les Miserables, FAME, Wicked, The Mikado, Jeckyll and Hyde and, of course, Phantom of the Opera itself. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE...
IT TRALEE STUDENTS’ UNION PRESIDENT SLAMS LOAN SCHEME IN CASSELLS REPORT IT Tralee Students’ Union has joined the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), SIPTU, IMPACT, TUI and IFUT to criticise the loan scheme option suggested in the Cassells Report as a solution to the higher level education funding crisis. IT Tralee SU joined USI, SIPTU, IMPACT, TUI and IFUT in urging Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, and the Oireachtas committee to choose the publicly-funded higher education option from the report. There were three suggestions put forward by the Cassells Report to solve the higher education funding crisis. The first suggestion was publicly-fully-funded education (paid for by the exchequer); the second suggestion put forward by the report was increased state funding to make up for the short-fallings in third level education and keeping the registration fee of €3,000; the third suggestion was a state loan scheme, similar to loan schemes in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Campus Life did research into the average annual cost of college and they found that it was €11,000 for people living away from home and €6,000 for people living at home, which means college courses will cost between €22,000 and €66,000 – if you’re doing something like medicine. Steve Clifford, President of ITTSU, said taking on a loan of €22,000 to €66,000 will deter young people from applying to college and stressed that we need to look at countries that have loan schemes and realise that they simply don’t work.
“The IT Tralee Students Union has responded to the Cassells Report with concern.” Steve Clifford, President of ITTSU, said. “Publicly-funded education is the best possibly option for students to access education long term. Free education has been muted for far too long and it is now a situation where students are deciding how much education is going to cost them rather than decide their further career path. Whereas some families can afford it but take on a long-term financial burden.” “Kerry TD, John Brassil, informed ITTSU during a general election husting that Fianna Fáil were considering the student loan scheme if elected into government. We advocated against the idea of a loan scheme due to fact that a publicly funded model is achievable. The very next day Fianna Fáil removed students’ loans from the general election manifesto. The politicians know it’s achievable. Education is a public good, not a commodity.” Clifford said Ireland needs to take action immediately and fix third level education funding before it gets worse and increases poverty traps and disables social mobility. Clifford said the only way to do this is by increasing funding, student support and grants across the country. “A higher educated youth means stronger future employment prospects, a better workforce, lower unemployment rates, less of a strain on social welfare and ultimately a stronger economy.” Clifford said. “Free education funded by the exchequer benefits everyone, not just the youth or those receiving the education.” Irish third level fees are the second highest in Europe, after the UK. Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland all offer free education. The registration fee in France is €180 - €2,820 cheaper than the Irish registration fee.
PEER-TO-PEER SUPPORT NETWORK LAUNCHED FOR WOMEN WITH ADVANCED/ METASTATIC BREAST CANCER Free Europa Donna Ireland Event to visit Midlands, Midwest and South West 11 July 2016: The South West launch of ‘Connect MBC Network’ – a new peer-to-peer community for women with advanced or metastatic breast cancer (MBC) – will take place on Saturday, 23rd July from 10am to 12 noon at Il Forno Restaurant, Courthouse Lane, Tralee. The free event, which is hosted by Europa Donna Ireland with the support of Pfizer Healthcare, is open to those with advanced/ metastatic breast cancer and to members of their family and friends. Please note that spaces for all events are limited and registration is required, either by emailing info@ europadonnaireland.ie or phoning (01) 496 0198. Part of Europa Donna – The European Breast Cancer Coalition, which boasts 47 member states, Europa Donna Ireland is a volunteer-run patient advocacy group working for better breast cancer services throughout Ireland.
Widespread Misconceptions According to Tara Byrne of Europa Donna Ireland, MBC is increasingly being seen by the medical profession as a chronic disease. “As many as 1,500 to 2,000 people in Ireland are living with metastatic breast cancer at any one time. But, despite these figures, there continues to be widespread misconceptions and misunderstandings about the disease. “The experiences and the knowledge of those living with this incurable disease are rarely spoken about. This is a situation that compounds the sense of isolation and hopelessness felt by many. ‘Connect MBC Network’ builds a safe online community where people with advanced/ metastatic breast cancer can connect with each other to find support, share experiences and learn more about their disease.” According to recent research by Pfizer Healthcare and the European School of Oncology, the lack of support for those with advanced/ metastatic breast cancer is not unique to Ireland but, according to Ms. Byrne, it is a situation that is troubling. Event details: South West – Il Forno Restaurant, Tralee, Saturday 23rd July, 10 am – 12 noon. 14

IT’S ONLY A JOKE DIVORCE
An elderly man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, “I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.” “Pop, what are you talking about?” the son screams. “We can’t stand the sight of each other any longer,” the old man says. “We’re sick of each other, and I’m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her,” and he hangs up. Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. “They’re not getting divorced if I have anything to do about it,” she shouts, “I’ll take care of this.” She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at the old man, “You are NOT getting divorced. Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back, and we’ll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don’t do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?” and hangs up. The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife and says, “Okay, they’re coming for Thanksgiving...now what do we tell them for Christmas?”
FIVE IMPORTANT QUALITIES
1. It’s important to have a woman, who helps at home, who cooks from time to time, cleans up and has a job. 2. It’s important to have a woman, who can make you laugh. 3. It’s important to have a woman, who you can trust and who doesn’t lie to you. 4. It’s important to have a woman, who is very romantic and who likes to be with you. 5. It’s very, very important that these four women do not know each other
between slow down and stop, I’ll give you my license and registration and you can give me the ticket. If not, you let me go and don’t give me the ticket.” The sheriff says, “That sounds fair, please exit your vehicle.” The lawyer steps out and the sheriff takes out his nightstick and starts beating the lawyer with it. The sheriff says, “Do you want me to stop or just slow down?”
A MAN GOES TO A FARM AND SEES A THREE LEGGED PIG
He asks the farmer “how did that pig lose his leg?” The farmer says: “last year a wolf came out of those woods and attacked me, the pig fought him off and saved my life.” “Did the wolf bite his leg off?” “No! Last month the barn caught fire and I passed put from the fumes, that pig pulled me out and then ran all five miles to the fire station.” “And he burned his leg?” “No! Last week I had a heart attack and that pig pressed on my chest with his trotters until I started breathing again and then dialed me an ambulance!” “How did that lose him his leg?” “No!” the farmer said, getting angry now, “look, that pig is the best, bravest, most intelligent pig that ever lived and a pig like that....” “Yes?” “A pig like that you don’t want to eat all at once.”
A MAN DRIVES TO A GAS STATION WITH THE SIGN “FREE DATE WITH EVERY FULL TANK”. The man fills up, goes inside and asks the guy inside for his free date. The attendant says “Tell me a number between 1 and 10”, “7”, “That was close, it was 8, better luck next time.” Next week he tries again, and he chooses 2 and close but no free date. Keep on trying is the attendant advice. The man returns to his car and later shares his disappointment with a coworker. “But don’t you realize” says the coworker “that this is a marketing ploy, and you are never going to win at it?” “I’m not stupid.” says the man, “And I know it’s not just a ploy, because, three times in a row now, my wife has won it”.
A LITTLE BOY GETS HOME FROM SCHOOL AND SAYS..
Dad, I’ve got a part in the school play as a man who’s been married for 25 years.” The dad replied”Don’t think about it, son. Maybe next time you’ll get a speaking part.”“I slowed down and no one was coming.” “You still didn’t come to a complete stop. License and registration please,” say the sheriff impatiently. The lawyer says, “If you can show me the legal difference 18

ALAN AND STEPHEN DO KERRY PROUD AT TRANSPLANT GAMES IN FINLAND
As the 9th European Transplant & Dialysis Championships draw to a close in Vantaa, Transplant Team Ireland’s spirit is high as they head homeward today with a staggering final medal tally of 21 Gold, 19 Silver and 29 Bronze. This place’s Ireland’s 28 strong team in fifth position on the medals table with host country Finland, and a much larger team of 96 athletes, taking top position out of 24 competing countries. Garda and Kerry Native Alan Gleeson (from Listowel) showed fantastic times at the Track and Field events. This was Alan’s second time away with the Team, this time competing in the dialysis category as prior to his transplanted kidney failing he competed as a transplant recipient at the Games in Slovenia in 2004. Alan was delighted to join the team again and to take home two Gold and one Silver medal. His teammate Stephen Byrne, from Tralee really enjoyed his time in Finland with his wife Francisse and two children Jennifer (18) and Ethan (14) who travelled with him. Newcomer Stephen Byrne from Tralee spoke of the “craic and camaraderie” he witnessed throughout the week. This was most definitely present at all events as the Irish team were regularly heard singing ‘The fields of Athenry’ and ‘Molly Malone’ at the top of their voices.Transplant Team Ireland this year comprises 22 men and 6 women including 22 transplant recipients (4 liver, 17 kidney and 1 combined kidney/ pancreas) and six athletes that are receiving dialysis treatment. The biennialWorld Transplant Games will be held in Malaga next year and many of Transplant Team Ireland are planning on participating there. The Irish Kidney Association is responsible for the coordination and organisation of Transplant Team Ireland’s participation in the European Transplant & Dialysis Championships. 22

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... KERRY FEELS ‘THE FORCE’ AT STAR WARS CELEBRATION IN LONDON
Skellig Michael’s appearance in the most recent instalment of Star Wars presented Tourism Ireland with a truly unique opportunity to highlight the South West to fans of the science fiction franchise around the world. And the good news for Irish tourism is that this didn’t signal the end of the Star Wars journey in Ireland. Location scouts were so taken with the Wild Atlantic Way that locations from Kerry, Cork, Clare and Donegal were also selected to appear in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII. To continue to maximise the Star Wars connection with Ireland, Tourism Ireland – together with three Kerry tourism operators – attended Star Wars Celebration 2016 in London. Described as the ‘ultimate fan experience’, it runs over three days each year, attracting tens of thousands of dedicated Star Wars fans from around the world and providing a superb opportunity for Tourism Ireland to promote Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way. Emma Gorman, Tourism Ireland, said: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke box office records around the world last December, bringing the magnificent scenery of Skellig Michael and the Wild Atlantic Way to the attention of millions of people everywhere. The fact that the next episode was also shot on location along the Wild Atlantic Way earlier this year is another fantastic coup for Irish tourism – and the Star Wars Celebration event in London was a fantastic platform for us to reach a huge number of Star Wars fans, whetting their appetites to come and visit Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way.”

BRENDA IS RUNNING BACK 2 BACK AROUND IRELAND
Back 2 Back is the action-packed challenge you’ve been waiting for – run two miles in each of the 26 counties in just 26 hours – in aid of the Mercy Hospital Foundation. Back 2 Back is the brainchild of Tralee woman, Brenda Doody, who last year ran 12 marathons in eight months for the Mercy. Join Brenda on the Back 2 Back team bus on Saturday, September 24th, and travel the length and breadth of Ireland, running two miles in each county, covering 52 miles on foot around the country. The challenge, which was officially launched by athlete and Rio Olympic hopeful Michelle Finn, will begin at the Mercy Hospital early on Saturday, September 24th and the aim is to arrive back to Cork within the 26 hours. This innovative endurance challenge will raise funds for a new Fluoroscopy X-ray Unit for the Regional Centre for Gastroenterology at the Mercy University Hospital, which will assist doctors in staging and treating patients with tumours in the oesophagus, stomach, bowel, pancreas and liver. Fluoroscopy is the method that provides realtime X-ray imaging that is especially useful for guiding a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures. Dr Martin Buckley, Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Mercy University Hospital said “There is an urgency and a demand for the new Centre for Gastroenterology to accommodate an increased volume of patients. The Fluoroscopy X-ray Unit will help to reduce waiting times for people requiring treatment. Currently many patients have to travel to Dublin for these procedures as the necessary endoscopy equipment is not available here. While we have the skills and the expertise to perform this treatment at The Mercy, we need critical investment for this equipment which will make a significant impact on the cancer journey for those affected all over Munster.” In 2015, Brenda undertook her first epic challenge for the Mercy, completing 12 marathons in eight months, raising €30,000 for the Mercy University Hospital, where her husband Pat was successfully treated for oesophageal cancer in 2014. Speaking about her upcoming Back 2 Back challenge, Brenda said “I got so much out of last year’s Marathon Challenge, and since I finished I was on the hunt for my next one. Back 2 Back is a challenge that I can share with a core group who are as passionate about helping the Mercy as I am. The care that the team in the Mercy gave my husband Pat was second to none, and I am eternally grateful to them. I am inviting anyone who’s up for the challenge to join me on September 24th for what promises to be a fun and fulfilling 26 hours, covering all corners of the country!” To be part of Back 2 Back, participants must raise at least €350. The first €50 covers the registration fee, and the remaining €300 and anything further raised goes towards funding the new Fluoroscopy X-ray Unit. Hello my beautiful friends! I hope you’re all having a fab week. I’ve had a busy week this week with a few very exciting interviews, I’ll keep you posted.
This week as promised I’ll be talking all about my favourite eyeshadows. I’m quite picky when it comes to them so you can 100% trust me with these, they’re all fab. Blank Canvas Master Series One Eyeshadow Palette - This is my holy grail eyeshadow palette. It’s SO pigmented, like you only need the tiniest amount of product. It works from day to night and there literally isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t use it. As far as I know you can pick it up in CH Chemists and it’s also online on Blankcanvas.ie for €35. BARGAIN. Inglot Eyeshadows - I absolutely love Inglot eyeshadows. They’re so affordable, have a huge shade range & so pigmented. For each eyeshadow it’s like €6 which is insane value.
Urban Decay Eyeshadows - These guys are a bit on the more pricey side, €18 for a single shadow(which I have only bought one of). The real value here is their palettes. The Naked Palettes, Gwen Stefani Palette & Vice Palette are absolutely gorgeous, so pigmented and decent value for money.
That’s all for my favourite eyeshadows (told you I was picky). I literally don’t use any other eyeshadows at the moment but some brands on my ever growing wish list are: Makeup Geek, The Anastasia Beverly Hills Renaissance Palette & Morphe Palettes. If you are on the hunt for amazing eyeshadows, I have heard they’re all supposed to be amazing. I haven’t personally tried them yet but once I do i’ll let you know.
Have a beautiful weekend everyone! If you want to contact me for an event, collaboration or just to say hi you can email me at Bexblahbeauty@gmail.com or through any social media, FACEBOOK: Bexblah Beauty, TWITTER: @Bexblah, INSTAGRAM: @Bexblah. Stay Gorge,

8 WEEKS TO AYIA NAPA Hello my strong friends! I hope you’re having a great week. As I said last week, I am heading to Ayia Napa in more or less 8 weeks. So it’s time to get a bit more strict with my nutrition and training, I have been working out and training hard but I have had lots of nights out and things and I really want to cut that down for the next 8 weeks to get the best results possible.
I won’t be doing anything drastic, I just will be doing everything I am supposed to be doing and I will be as consistent as possible. I am going to try a new thing I have recently heard about which is Carb Cycling – More on that next week! Also I am now the lowest weight I have been since I started in March, which I am so happy with. I set a goal to keep going through the Summer and that’s exactly what I’m doing. And after the Holiday I have one more big goal set, which I will meet no matter what! So this week I’m focusing on getting my greens intake up, because I’m literally the worst with getting them in. It’s my main downfall. I like Avocados, Rocket Spinach & Watercress mix and that’s basically all I eat. So I was saying it to Rob Lipsett and he told me to add frozen spinach or kale into my protein shakes because you can’t taste them when they’re

BARBEQUE SECRETS I’m glad to announce that some of the Tralee culinary gangsters will be doing a live demo at the Tralee food festival this year in September. www.traleeculinarygangsters.wordpress. I have been getting some questions about BBQ ing and this is a popular query
KNOWING WHEN TO USE HIGH AND LOW HEAT One of the biggest secrets to cooking mouth watering meals on your barbecue is when to use high and low heat. When it comes to barbecuing you may have heard people refer to “sealing in the juices” and you may have even tried to attempt this technique yourself, but as with most things, if you do not know what you are doing then you may be doomed to fail. If you watch the way the best grill-masters barbecue they cook their veg and steaks on a high heat to sear the outside before turning to slow cooking, this is a very effective method of sealing in the juices This method should be used for foods that are to be partly cooked through such as a medium rare steak. However if you are cooking ribs or burgers it is advisable you use a low heat to prevent any sort food poisoning. This is better explained when it is better understood how the process actually works, as the meat is heated, the cells and the fibers of the meat tense up, squeezing out much of the juices. So if you only want to lightly cook the meat then searing it will help to seal in the juices by quickly cooking
the outside. But be careful not to cook on a high heat for to long, or the inner layers will cook too quickly, vaporizing all of your precious and tasty juices.
so that it can finish cooking at that lower temperature. Remember, when it comes to high heat, practice makes perfect, and the perfect is well worth the practice
When you are using high heat, the rule of thumb is to cook on each side for a maximum of five minutes a side. After ten minutes, anything that you’re cooking should be moved aside to a medium heat Recipes by

TORQUING CARS! NEW CAR SALES ON TARGET TO HIT CELTIC-TIGER LEVELS
The number of new car registrations passed the 100,000 mark between January and June. That is 25pc more sales than the same period last year. And dealers are confident that sales for all of 2016 will surpass 150,000 for the first time in eight years. And in a potent symbol of a return to economic growth, ‘white van man’ is back, with sales of commercial vehicles also rising sharply. New car registrations were up to 101,338 compared with 82,337 in the first six months of 2015. Light commercial vehicles rose 26pc to 18,417 in the first half of the year and overall heavy goods vehicle registrations are up 42pc compared with the same period last year. Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) director general Alan Nolan said: “At the start of the year we predicted that this year’s registration numbers should reach 150,000 for the first time since 2008 and these figures keep us on track to deliver that. “From today, of course, the focus turns to the 162 registration period. This year promises to be the first normal year of registrations since the recession and with the range of attractive offers available across all brands, we are confident that 162 will also deliver in the coming months.” Ford is the overall market leader with combined sales of more than 15,000 cars and vans in the six months to June 30. The marque registered 10,027 cars and 4,979 vans in the first six months, slightly ahead of VW, which actually sold more cars (10,945) but fewer vans (3,060). Toyota is in third place (10,807 cars and 1,358 vans). So far this year, the best -selling car is the Hyundai Tucson, followed by the Volkswagen Golf (3,585) and the Ford Focus (3,315). At the upper end of the market, the BMW 5-Series is the most popular. In all, 1,041 have been bought in the first six months, slightly ahead of the Audi A4 (1,025). Seven out of 10 vehicles sold in the first six months were diesel models.
LAND ROVER’S NEW £20M FACTORY WILL MAKE BESPOKE 4X4S AND SPORTS CARS - BUT ONLY FOR THE SUPER-RICH
Jaguar Land Rover’s new £20million Special Operations technical centre will specialise in building bespoke motors for the super wealthy. The company will create 250 jobs across its Coventry ‘special ops’ HQ over the next six months. Its announcement came as the carmaker formally opened its new technical centre at the Prologis Business Park in Ryton-on-Dunsmore. Engineers and designers at the 20,000 sq m facility create Jaguars, Range Rovers, andLand Rovers for wealthy customers who want personalised cars that are unique to them. The company is also to invest another £7.5m into building exclusive revitalised classics, reports the Coventry Telegraph. Since it was launched in June 2014, Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) has launched the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 and the F-Type SVR, which is capable of a top speed of 200mph. The company has acquired a neighbouring facility on the business park which will become the new HQ for Jaguar Land Rover Classic. This not only restores existing vintage cars but brings back to life legendary vehicles such as the rare Jaguar XKSS sports car and the iconic Lightweight E-Type racing model.Mr Edwards said: “At SVO we make specialist cars - think of British luxury, performance and capability. “Our business plans are driven by the desire for ‘halo’ vehicles and other exclusive products from customers in all corners of the globe. “We are intending to launch an all-new product each year for the next five years.”

A The DS3 looks great and seats four comfortably,
but the driving position is low, with heavily bolstered seats. For something more upright, try a Ford B-Max, Hyundai ix20 or Kia Venga. HJ Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066 7122982 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR EXPERIENCES OF A LIFETIME FOR KERRY ATHLETES AT TAIWAN ICG GAMES
They then headed for Fu Jen University, their base for the Games and they also met the children and teachers from Zhu Wei High School who had been communicating with the Tralee ICG team for 3 months prior to the trip. It was great to see these kids waving Green and Gold banners at Tralee’s competitions. Plans are in place for the exchanges between Tralee and the Zhu Wei High School to continue. Opening Ceremony: Like all major games the Opening Ceremony is one of the highlights and this took place in the magnificent Xing Zhuang Sports Stadium and was relayed live on Taiwan television and on the internet. Head of Delegation for the Tralee team Paula Henry was interviewed and all the squad marched wearing as much green and gold as possible!! The host city, and bearing in mind that it was the 50th games then put on a fabulous celebration of traditional music, song and dance.
The old days of your team going on an away trip to Cork or Dublin if you were very lucky!! For today’s young sports persons the world is certainly their oyster as can be seen from the recent trip by 23 Kerry athletes, coaches and travelling supporters. They were in New Taipei City, Taiwan alongside 83 teams from all over the world to participate in the historic 50th ICG Games. Michael Culloty has written a long and detailed report on the trip and while I can’t put it all in it is great to give some extensive coverage to what he describes as ‘the experience of a lifetime’. “Tralee were represented in soccer, ladies basketball and Track and Field and arrived in the Far East on Thursday July 7th, just ahead of a ‘super typhoon’ which kept them indoors for the first day. Luckily they escaped the worst of the damage caused to southern Taiwan. However it did provide the opportunity to get over the jet lag from the 22 hour travel time. Opening Days: For the next two days the team and officials played tourist with trips arranged to some of the local sights including the Yehliu Geopark, the National Palace Museum, Tapei 101, up to a few years ago the tallest building in the world and the volcanic springs of Beitou.

The Sports Action: Soccer Of course the main reason for the trip was the games and in the soccer Tralee opened against a very classy Montreaux of Switzerland and were 3-0 down early on. Keeper Alex O’Connor made some big saves to keep them in the game and when Sean McGrath pulled two back Tralee hoped for a possible draw but in the end went down 4-2. Tralee hit back with a 4-1 won over Sopron with Sean McGrath getting another 2 goals, Boki Nikic one and Paddy O’Rourke the 4th. Against Taichung Tralee found themselves 4-0 down inside ten minutes and the omens looked bad. However these players know what it is to win and Sean McGrath, who was called up to the FAI’s Hibernia Cup squad while he was away, showed how lethal a goal scorer he is hitting 3 goals to bring Tralee back into the game. McGrath scored the equaliser within 5 minutes of the restart and then to the delighted of all Tadgh McEvoy scored the winner in an incredible game. Tralee were much too strong for Hadera of Israel and the win qualified them for the semifinal against Szombathely of Hungary. They went ahead but with the likes of James Rusk, Seb Vasiu and others Tralee levelled through Sean McGrath. But the Hungarian side when ahead with 6 minutes to go and held on despite the best efforts of the Tralee team. Tralee played Montreaux for the bronze medal but this eluded them at the death. Tralee came from behind 3 times through Nicki, James Rusk and Sean McGrath but the Swiss got the winner with inside the last 30 seconds. It was a hard blow to take but the whole squad played superbly throughout the tournament. Basketball: This was the first Ladies Basketball team to represent Tralee ICG at the games since the town first represented Ireland in Coventry in 2005. The gold and silver winners came from Tralee’s group but the squad did well to finish
Friday 22nd July 2016
5th with two victories over Taiwanese and Canadian opposition. Tralee lost their first three games. They went down 56-28 to Tainan City, Taiwan who would go onto to take the gold. Hamilton were one of the tournament favourites and ended with the silver medal. There were too strong for Tralee winning 55-19. In between Tralee had defeated Keelung Taiwan 40-23 with Shelly Clifford on 12, Anna Lyons with 10 and Rachel Ryan scoring 9. Ciara Ryan hit 5, Lyselle O’Shea had 2 and Mille Luck aslo hitting 2. Tralee then took on Hamilton in the 5th and 6th place playoff and they had a double scores win 42-21 over the Canadian side. Here is was Rachel Ryan that top scored on 16 to round off a very creditable tournament for the girls. Athletics: The athletes had to contend with the heat of the New Taipei Banjiao Stadium and all did very well. Cillian Griffin finished 6th in the A semi-final of the 100m while Basic Oyejambi and Meabh McElligott qualified for the 400m B finals where they took 5th and 6th. Fergal O’Brien, Sean Quilter, Ciara McCarthy and Harry Emerson all did well on the opening day. Sean Quilter finished 6th overall on Day two in the Shot Put Final; Dara Courtney finished 5th overall in the High Jump Final and the 4 x 100 Final relay team of Fergal, Cillian, Sean and Basit finished 4th in their Heats, and 6th in the final, a great achievement. Closing Ceremony: After all the activities the 1500 athletes enjoyed the party time of the Closing Ceremony and the Sky Lantern Festival will be remembered by all for a long time to come. The squad, coaches and supporters all flew home happy in the knowledge that they represented Tralee and the country to the best of their ability. It certainly was an Experience of a Lifetime. As it was for all the athletes and support crews involved since Tralee first took part in 2005. It will be the same for those who make the team for 2017!! WHO ARE KERRY’S PARALYMPIANS? With the Paralympics in Brazil only a few weeks away Paralympics Ireland is looking to compile a complete list of all those who have represented Ireland at the Olympics. This year we have Ian Costello in sailing. He will compete in the three man Sonar Class and will become a double Olympian. The others I can recall are Roy Guerin who also competed in more than one Games and Brendan O’Connell in Swimming. The Paralympian Recognition Programme has a long list but are there other athletes who competed at the pinnacle of their sports. So if I am missing Kerry Paralympians, and I presume I am, can you please let me know and we will give them the recognition they deserve. ALL GO AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the Boylesports Derby Trial Stake. Saturday night sees the semi-finals of the Bobby Hickson Memorial A6 525 yards. Starting on Friday, July 29th it’s the Midtown Raffa@ stud A1/A2 Bitch Stake with a winner prize of e1000. Saturday July 30th it’s the beginning of the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Supporters Club Rose of Tralee A4 confined 525 yards. SEAN AND SEAN TO WEAR THE GREEN OF IRELAND: The Kerry Schoolboys Girls League is celebrating the call up of another two players to pull on the green of Ireland. Sean Kennedy from Tralee Dynamos and Sean McGrath from The Park have been selected for the Irish squad that will take part in the Hibernian Cup in Dublin from August 14th.

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES They will face the Northern Ireland Development Squad, Sunderland, Norwich, Glasgow, Nottingham Forest and the host club St Joseph’s Boys. It is an exciting time for both boys as they are combining Ireland training with trips across channel to clubs who have been showing an interest in them. POWER OF A DIFFERENT KIND AT BALLYBEGGAN: Power of a different kind will be generated around the Ballybeggan Racetrack this Sunday when the Kerry Motor Club hosts their Rally Sprint. This is the 6th running of the event and is sponsored by Relihan’s Dismantlers in Clash with Sean Hegarty taking on the role of the Clerk of the Course for the first time. The course will be over 3km with half on tarmac and half on gravel and the drivers will have a minimum of 3 runs over the course. The club is also catering for all the family with bouncy castles, face painting, vintage tractor display and fire brigade display. Gates open at 10.30 this Sunday, July 24th with racing beginning at 11am. Entry is only e5 with kids admitted free. TRALEE’S SEAN LACEY STILL TOP AFTER THIRD PLACE IN NATIONAL SERIES: Sean Lacey, of Team Aquablue, extended his lead at the top of the National Series when he took 3rd place at the Killorglin Grand Prix. Simon Ryan and Shane Scully broke away but Lacey controlled the remainder of the breakaway group and came home in 3rd place. Moda Kingdom Endurance rider Michael Storan was 5th while Cathal Moynihan of Tralee Manor West iBike fought back from a puncture to finish 9th. From a Tralee point of view Eddie Barry (Moda) was 11th while Manor’s Ciaran Slattery took 15th and his club-mate Gerry McCarthy also inside the top 20 in 17th place. In the A3 race Manor West iBikes Cormac Daly won one of the Primes, all of which were sponsored by Hoare Machinary while in the A4 race Manor West iBikes John Griffin was 6th. In the underage Tralee Manor West iBikes Patrick White was 5th in the u16 race while Sean Barrett of the same club 2nd in the u14 section. Kerry Time Trial League: The second last round of the iBike Kerry Time League takes place this Thursday night, July 21st with racing on the usual route from Ballycarthy to Castleisland starting at 7pm. NEW BASKETBALL GAME TO MAKE ITS TRALEE DEBUT: 3x3 basketball is sweeping the world at the moment and it has its own championships. This form of basketball is set to come to Tralee during the Festival with Tralee Imperials running a big tournament. The event was launched this week after we had gone to print and we will have more details next week but it will certainly be interesting to see how a basketball town like Tralee takes to the new 3x3 format. BUSY WEEK IN THE WATER: It looks like the swimmers of the Tralee Bay Swimming club will eventually get back into the water for some competitive action this week and it looks like the weather Gods are smiling on them. The Donald Walsh swim was set for last Tuesday night while the Brendan O’Callaghan
Cup was pencilled in for last night, Thursday night. We will have a round-up of the results next week. KERRY TEAMS IN ACTION: We wish the Kerry Juniors all the best in their All Ireland semi-final this weekend. They are in Manchester on Saturday to take on Lancashire. The game goes ahead at Old Bedians ground. July 31st the Big Day: The GAA has confirmed that both the minors and seniors will be in action in their respective All Ireland quarter finals on Sunday July 31st. The Kerry minors will throw in at 12 noon and they will face Derry. The Seniors are in the second game but they don’t know their opponents yet. Kerry and Galway will face the winners of the games between Clare v Roscommon and Derry v Tipperary with neither county being able to meet their provincial final opponents! PARNELLS NEWS: The club was delighted to welcome so many new faces at its registration evening. For parents who have not registered their children they are asked to do so as soon as possible. The Summer Camp was a great success and much of the credit for that goes to the coaches. Camp coordinator Eamon Fitzgerald and his coaches Julianne O’Keeffe, Jordan Brick and Brendan O’Leary were delighted with the way the kids took to the drills and skills of the game. Well done also to the players who helped out over the 3 days of the Camp. U16’s: The u16’s took on Lixnaw in the County Shield quarter final last Sunday and all the players put in a very good performance but Lixnaw had a strong bench and they brought on some good players as Parnell’s ran out of steam. However the team deserves great credit for getting to the final. U14 and u16 Camogie Academy: Kerry camogie are hosting a camp for girls aged 13-15 years of age next month. The Academy will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday August 9th and 10th and the cost is e20. The Camp takes place from 10am to 2.30pm in Tralee and booking is necessary through any of the clubs mentors. KERRY CAMOGIE NEWS: The Kerry team came up just short in their must win game against Westmeath in Abbeydorney. It ended Kerry 1-12 to Westmeath’s 2-12. Kerry can feel hard done by with a number of calls by the referee going against them. The sides were level at 1-06 a piece going into the second half. The big call by Mike Sheehan was the sending off of Aoife Behan for a ‘cynical foul’, a call that bemused the away side as much as the home support. Being a player down the girls battled as hard as they could but just could not hold out against the 15 players of Westmeath. Kerry still have Carlow and Limerick to play and will hope other results go their way. Double Header: The Kerry u16 C side and the Kerry Juniors both face Carlow this Sunday, July 24th in Abbeydorney. They u16’s throw in at 1.30pm and the Junior’s at 3.15pm. The u16 C team went down to Kildare away in Athy last Sunday. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The football camp takes place from August 2nd to 5th and bookings is now open. The 6’s and 8’s are enjoying their training twice a week with the u10’s are working hard ahead of their trip to Dublin on the August Bank Holiday
weekend. The 12’s /13’s are involved in the Town League and had a great win over Ardfert in a score-fest with the game ending Stacks 3-20 to Ardfert’s 5-11. In the u14’s the A’s drew with Ardfert and defeated Glenbeigh/Glencar while the Division 3 side in the Central Region went down to Rahilly’s and St Pat’s. The u16’s A started off their County League with a win over Killgarvan/ Tuosist. The B’s were beaten by Castlegregory in the Lee Strand County Football League Round 8 and will next face Dr. Crokes B. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The Seniors had an important Round 8 Credit Union Senior Co League win over Dingle on a 1-06 to 0-08 score-line. While both sides were missing players it was a good game with Rahilly’s down a point at half time. The vital goal came when Ryan Carroll, Tommy Walsh and Owen O’Carroll combined to set up John Ferguson who sent an unstoppable shot to the top corner of the net. Next up in Round 9 is a clash with Milltown/ Castlemaine this Friday at 8pm. The Juniors received a walkover from St Pat’s in the Junior Town League. The minors played West Kerry in the Keane’s Supervalu Co Championship and they went down 1-06 to 1-17. Their next game is a Central League clash with Dingle. Juvenile News: The underage football continues at the usual times at the weekend and mid-week while the Ladies are also training at the regular times. Lotto: There was no winner from the numbers drawn 6,7,12 and 24 and the next Jackpot will be e3,200. Patrons are also asked to note the many off field activities taking place in the clubhouse with all the details on the club website and notice board. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 12,16,19 and 26 and the next jackpot will be e7,000 with the draw this Sunday night in Keane’s Bar. The Academy takes its summer break and will resume on Sunday August 21st. The u6 and u8’s boys and girls had a very enjoyable fun outing with Camp / Annascaul in Camp last Friday. They will also be taking part in the John Mitchels Blitz on July 23rd from 10am to 2.30pm. The u10’s played in the Fun Go Games against Annascual and all enjoyed involved had a great time despite the bad weather. The u10’s will also be taking part in that Blitz at John Mitchels. The u12’s mixed team took part in the Munster u12 football blitz in the Fitzgerald Stadium and it was a great experience for the young players. The u12 Girls played their return match against Camp/Annascaul and the girls showed their great skills. The u13’s are away to Churchill this Sunday in the Tralee Town Board League. Throw in is at 6pm. The Seniors shared the points with Brosna 1-14 to 0-17 in Division 3 Round 8 of the County League. Steve McAuliffee got the only goal of the game. They are away to Annascaul this Sunday.
