Finian was wondering about his right to take holidays from his workplace as he is having difficulty getting the dates, he needed for his family holiday.
The good news is that we have now 10 public holidays in the year including from 2023 the first Monday in February unless that falls on the Friday of the month in which case the public holiday is a Friday. Ideally one is entitled to a paid day off on these days or a day in lieu. Public holidays do not include Good Friday which is a normal workday. All employees whether full time, part time, casual or temporary are entitled to paid leave. For most employees this would be four weeks paid holiday in the year. If an employee works less than 1365 hours in a year, then it is often calculated at 8% of time worked. Otherwise, it is a 1/3 of a working week per calendar month that the employee works at least 117 hours. This holiday leave entitlement is useful for students as it can often be paid to them on leaving employment at the end of the summer. No employee is entitled e.g. on the 8% calculations to more than the statutory four weeks paid leave. However there is nothing to stop employees having a greater holiday entitlement in their contract of employment. In relation to taking holidays while employers can set dates depending on the demands of the business in consultation with employees and bearing in mind the employee’s opportunities for rest and recreation. This would include family commitments and cognizance needs to be taken of the school holidays and opportunities for a family to go on holidays together. Holiday pay needs to be paid in advance of the employee going on holidays. Annual leave should be taken within the leave year Depending on your employer, you can agree to take your annual leave within 6 months of the end of the relevant leave year. Any further carrying-over (also called holding over) of annual leave would need to be agreed between you and your employer. If you are sick while on annual leave and produce the medical certificate to your employee you should get alternative paid time off. If you are on long-term sick leave and cannot take your annual leave due to illness, you can carry it over for up to 15 months after the end of the year it was earned. If you leave your job within these 15 months, you should get payment instead of the leave you did not take due to illness.

We know that in Ireland there is a housing shortage. But for a wheelchair user there is a housing absence, a complete lack of any wheelchair liveable housing anywhere. This is why social housing is so vital for people with disabilities, because there are no private rental options there for them at the However, moment.while local authorities are focusing heavily on building social housing, they are not yet delivering wheelchair liveable housing at the rates that our community needs. In 2021 Irish Wheelchair Association was part of a successful campaign to have ‘wheelchair liveable’ needs included as an option on social housing application forms. Before 2021 it had not even been possible for a disabled person to include their disability requirements in their local authority housing application. This is how far behind we were on accessible social housing in Ireland.
The good news is that now in 2022 all local authorities have new application forms with options to include and register accessibility needs. So there has never been a better time to encourage your loved one to think about their future, the life they want to lead and where they want to live as they get Hereolder.arefive steps to get started to support your loved one begin their journey.

by Terry O'Brien, service coordinator with Irish Wheelchair Association in Kerry. As a parent or a sibling, sometimes it is hard to find the balance between encouragement and pressure when we are trying to get our loved ones to think about the future and where they will live as they get older. While working in Irish Wheelchair Association in Kerry, supporting families across the area; everyday, I am meeting disabled people who are being underestimated by society and also left behind by the national housing crisis. Many don’t know where to go or how to start looking for their own home. But help is out there. I often meet parents who are so hopeful and enthusiastic about their son or daughter’s potential but the struggle for an independent life can seem out of reach for so many. Many people, not just parents, would like to support their child, sibling or friend to live independently and have their own home but don’t know where to start. The reality is that housing is a critical issue for a person with a disability. In my work across Kerry I regularly meet people who are living in homes that are unsuitable and sometimes even dangerous for their condition. I meet people who cannot figure out where they will live when their parents get older. And I meet parents who are struggling to care for their adult children and are worried about the future.
5. Return the application form. TODAY!! I Recently I heard Yvonne, a member of Irish Wheelchair Association saying “I actually never thought that it would be possible for me to live independently because I didn’t have the confidence and courage in myself… Look once you get into your home you get to actually have fun. And it’s only then that you actually relax and just realise... you kinda wonder why you waited so long to do something like this. So yeah definitely go for Justit.” keep going and finish the job together. You will be glad you did.

Wow, and all of a sudden its all over... Or is it? ....I'll come back to that later. What have we just seen ...probably the perfect storm with regard to the first Festival in 3 years ...Anthony O Gara and his ( small) team have been on pause for a while ...but wow, did they cut loose with one hell of a comeback gig! Yes , we had the appetite for something good, yes, we had the fantastic weather to play its part ..Yes we had the good will of many sponsors .but everything else required heavy lifting by Anthony , Stephen, Suzan, Honor and the team ...serious heavy lifting! The Dome relocating to the MTU ...IT WAS WONDERFUL ! I was there , DJ'ing my heart out ! Loads of Entertainment on the streets ...they were packed ...The Mini Dome ....The Park Festival ..a Dream ! Anthony's small team being lifted by an army of volunteers...Wonderful to see! The families of all the Roses being treated like royalty as were all the 33 Roses and indeed all the past Roses who attended . And the TV Shows , yes there were a few of them ...that’s some media coverage!! No where else in Ireland gets it! Credit in a big way goes to RTE and their HUGE crew ! But really what stood out for me was that it was such a Family and Friends type Festival ...Everyone, and I mean Everyone, was having a great time in Tralee last week ...I'm hoarse from continuously talking about it to so many different people ...and for the future ?? Well , how about we firstly take a little time to sit back , take a breath and acknowledge those who did the heavy lifting... and appreciate the huge economic boost this Festival gives to our town in the coming months ...all that money spent will circle continuously in the local economy for some time yet... And then use this absolute success to support and secure in the coming months , the Future of Our Festival , The Rose Of Tralee! Roll on the 62nd Festival... (Fingers crossed of course!)... Chris Shortt Tralee Art Group is delighted to announce their "Joy" exhibition in Baile Mhuire Care Centre, Balloonagh, Tralee. Having spent the last two years online to paint, sketch, discuss business and display our works to the public, nothing can match the feeling of physically hanging our works in a beautiful space like Baile Mhuire and gathering for the Alsoopening!afterall the lockdowns, volunteers from TAG are back again working with clients of Baile Mhuire as they returned to some painting and colouring. Sparking Joy in both clients and volunteers alike, the clients' favourite pieces are part of this Soexhibition.youcan imagine how excited we are! As Baile Mhuire must comply to HSE Regulations and Guidelines, the opening was a private event, curtailed to clients and a small number of Tralee Art Group members. To our delight TV presenter and Rose of Tralee Festival host, Daithi O’Shea, happened upon the scene. A true gentleman, he very graciously posed for photos with us making the experience even more special!
The exhibition will be open to the public every Monday - Saturday 4pm -5.30pm up to Christmas. Please come along and view the wonderful selection of works by artists and clients. Maybe you will find an original work by local artists that speaks to you or might make a beautiful gift for a loved one. For further information please contact Baile Mhuire at 066 7123373

Hi Noreen, we have a lot of people thrilled with their results at CHRC. We have two treatments for the tummy area which help to tighten, sculpt and contour. The first one is fat reduction and the second is skin tightening. Both treatments are very safe and comfortable and part of our FDA approved Venus Bliss device which is non-surgical and non-invasive. Fat reduction uses laser technology and is for stubborn pockets of fat at the waist, back and abdomen. It improves body contours without surgery, scars or downtime. It selectively breaks down fat cells which are naturally eliminat ed by the body. Skin tightening uses advanced radio frequen cy technology tightens the skin and reduces circumferences to contour the body. The applicator has a deep effect on the tissue and the skin will be firmer and smoother.
A KERRY poet, Lorraine Carey , has been named among the winners of the 2022 TrócairePoetry Ireland poetry Thecompetition.Trócaire and Poetry Ireland annual competition, which this year had the theme ‘A Better Tomorrow’, uses the arts to raise awareness about global justice, ecological and equality issues. Lorraine Carey from Fenit was named as the runner-up in the Adult Published Category with her poem ‘Days Like These’. Lorraine’s poems are widely anthologised and published. Longlisted in The National Poetry Competition 2019, she was selected for The Stinging Fly Summer School 2022 and has poetry forthcoming in Allium, Howl and Romance Options –an anthology of love poems from Dedalus Press. Jane O’Hanlon from Poetry Ireland said, “I would like to express sincere thanks to everyone who supported the Trócaire Poetry Ireland Poetry Competition this year. The winning poems speak eloquently to urgent contemporary issues and yet manage to express hope in and for a ‘better tomorrow’”.
Joanne McGarry, Trócaire’s Campaigns and Volunteer Manager, said: “With entries from over 29 counties across the island of Ireland this year, and from as far afield as Canada, Australia, Nigeria and the U.S., we’d like to thank everyone who entered, the standard was superb. These wonderful poems highlight social justice and in turn increase awareness and understanding of the world we live in. Poetry Ireland and Trócaire look forward to celebrating the winners of the competition with an in-person event, (the first to take place since before the Covid pandemic) on Culture Night, Friday 23 September, at Dublin City University (DCU).

Celebrating their first year in Tralee, KP Therapy is the passion project of Monaghan native turned Lyreacrompanian; Kevin Prunty MSc NMT. Kevin opened his first clinic in 2005 and has been teaching neuromuscular therapy approaches across ireland and internationally since 2008. Last September Kevin officially opened KP Therapy in the Brandon Hotel and Conference Centre. He was shortly joined by Kieran Slattery NMT and are currently looking to expand the team. KP Therapy has gone from strength to strength over the last year. By far the most popular services are pain and injury treatments for chronic unresolved issues and Pilates instruction which Kevin says demonstrates the shift in visitor expectations toward the demand for a complementary medical, health and wellness experience. This goes beyond what a traditional hotel spa typically offer. Although Kevin says the vast majority of costumers are local or traveling from every corner of Munster for our unique treatment approach.

One of the things some people may feel as age creeps up on them is a lack of energy. This happens because as you age your body gradually loses its ability to make energy and your levels of COENZYME Q10 decrease. This COENZYME Q10 is an essential vitamin like compound that cells need to make energy. We produce it in our liver and a certain amount of it comes from food that we eat. It is available in spray or capsule form to facilitate the energy turnover in cells. Many people take a COENZYME Q10 supplement daily as their energy boost and it is completely natural to the body. The increased energy levels enable people to engage in activities that would normally have been too strenuous for them. Not only can a supplement of COENZYME Q10 help to restore energy levels in an ageing population, it can also help with issues such as lack of zest and physical decline.

From the u9 and u10 girl’s Blitz where 8 teams from the KSBGL clubs took part to the visit of the Roses and the Escorts to Tralee Dynamos, where their dresses, suits and high heels didn’t stop them kicking a ball around, to the competition and finally the taking part by the Kerry u13 Girls in the Festival Parade and the presentation of the Cup to Cork and the Shield to South Tipperary on Stage the 2022 Rose Cup was a resounding Fromsuccess.aKerry point of view they drew 1-1 with Clare and 0-0 with eventual runnersup MGL North from Dublin before a 2-0 loss to Cork saw them finish 3rd in their Group. They bounced back with a 2-0 win over West Cork which saw them reach the Shield Final. This was a cracker with Kerry scoring first and last but South Tipp had hit three in between to see the Kerry girls, under head coach Siobhan Cushen take home the silver medals.

Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked for many favours, this time I ask you this special one (mention favour). Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Fa ther sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. D.M.
