WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... NEW SCHEME WILL HELP KERRY FOREST OWNERS Fine Gael TD for Kerry, Brendan Griffin, has this week welcomed a new scheme which will help Kerry forest owners whose property was damaged during the severe storms at the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014.
“My colleague the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed, has announced the opening of a Windblow Reconstitution Scheme. This is something that I have been seeking for some time and I had previously held meetings on the issue with the then Minister Simon Coveney. “The new scheme will provide financial aid to land owners whose plantations were damaged by storm force winds that occurred between December 2013 and February 2014. Everyone remembers the most severe windstorm, named ‘Storm Darwin’, on the 12th of February 2014. “The frequency and ferocity of these storms, compounded by waterlogged soils on many sites, led to extensive damage on forest lands, affecting some 8,000 hectares overall. “I know many private forest owners in Kerry suffered significant financial loss, both in terms of the value of timber lost and the cost in re-establishing the sites affected. “The new Windblow Reconstitution Scheme will see the State make a financial contribution towards the cost of replanting these sites, as a once off measure for this specific weather event. “Forest owners of conifer forests planted after the 1st December 1989 will be eligible to apply and those with broadleaves planted after the 1st December 1983 can also apply. “A maximum grant of €1,700 per hectare, up to a total of 10 hectares, will be made available under the Scheme to those private forest owners meeting the eligibility criteria. “Kerry forest owners who are looking for more information should visit the Department’s website at www.agriculture.gov.ie/forestservice/grantsandpremiumschemes2015-2016/ from next week. The closing date for receipt of applications is the 24th February 2017.”

As we are all aware our local Post Offices are coming under increasing pressure to remain open and we in Austin Stacks GAA want to play our part in ensuring the survival of this vital community service. The Club whose supporters make the most transactions in the Rock PO from now until December will win the lucrative right to exclusively sell their Club Lotto Tickets in the Rock PO. So with each personal or work place/business transaction (collection of any payments, buying your TV or Dog licence, registering a letter, cash withdrawals ,investments, savings or simply purchasing your Christmas stamps ) we are asking you to say “I’M A ROCKIE” – this is key to our success in securing the franchise. ÈAMONN HANGS ONTO THE REINS !
Following the news that Èamonn Fitzmaurice has been reappointed as Kerry Senior Football manager for a further two years, BoyleSports has some specials available on the manager. Kerry are 10/3 to win the All Ireland SFC in 2017 with 4/1 the price that they can lift the Sam Maguire in 2018. Despite bowing out in the All Ireland SFC semi-finals to Dublin this season Kerry are a positive 7/4 to bounce back within the next two years and win the All Ireland in either season. Back to back wins in 2017 and 2018 for The Kingdom under Fitzmaurice is a 16/1 shot. Èamonn Fitzmaurice may have signed on for two more years, but he is 11/8 not to manage Kerry in 2018. Jack O’Connor, who was replaced by Fitzmaurice in 2013, is priced at 7/4 to succeed Èamonn once he steps down as manager. Aoife Heffron, PR Executive for BoyleSports commented “Despite calls for change, Èamonn Fitzmaurice has been reinstated as Kerry manager for two more years, but can he mirror The Kingdom’s success of 2014? At 7/4 for Kerry to win the Sam Maguire in either 2017 or 2018 under Fitzmaurice the odds are optimistic as we are sure the Kingdomers are.” She added “Jack O’Connor could be lying in wait to return as manager once Fitzmaurice steps down, having guided Kerry to victory in 2004, 2006 and 2009.” Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066 7122982 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... TRALEE HOUSEHOLDS TO BENEFIT FROM BORD GÁIS PRICE CUT
Commenting on this weeks price cut announcement by Bord Gåis Energy, Eoin Clarke, Managing Director of Switcher.ie, said: “This announcement by Bord Gåis Energy marks their third price cut since February 2015. From 1 October 2016, their 315,074 residential gas customers and 333,574 residential electricity customers will see a further 5% cut to electricity rates and a 2.5% cut to their gas rates, representing an annual saving of €67 for the average dual fuel customer. “In total, the three price cuts by Bord Gåis Energy will save typical dual fuel customers €156 per year. It goes without saying that any price cut like this is especially welcome as we approach the winter months. It follows similar price cut announcements recently from two other big players in the market, Electric Ireland and SSE Airtricity. “We’re yet to see a price cut coming from Energia this year, but perhaps this move by Bord Gåis Energy today will put further pressure on them to make a cut. A report by Vayu Energy, published yesterday, showed wholesale gas prices are down 35% year-on-year, while electricity rates are down 27%, so there is definitely scope for any suppliers who have not yet done so to make a cut. “In the meantime, the biggest saving can still be made by switching suppliers - at the moment, the average dual fuel customer can save up to €360 by moving from standard rates to the cheapest deals on the market.” For more information, visit Switcher.ie

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: PAYSLIPS Question I started a new job 3 weeks ago. Although I have been paid each week, I don’t know if I have paid any tax or PRSI. How do I find that out? Answer You should have been given a pay slip by your employer when you were paid. Your pay slip can be provided to you either in electronic format or in hard copy. Under the Payment of Wages Act 1991 all employees have the right to a pay slip which shows the gross pay and details of all deductions. A pay slip is essentially a written statement from the employer to the employee that outlines the total pay before tax and all details of any deductions from pay. Certain deductions from pay are allowed under the Act. They include deductions that are required by law, for example, tax (PAYE), Universal Social Charge (USC) and social insurance (PRSI). Deductions provided for in your contract of employment, such as occupational pension contributions, are also allowed. You should ask your employer for pay slips for the three weeks that you have already worked. If your employer fails to give you those pay slips and continues to pay you without giving you a pay slip, you may make a complaint to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC). To do this, you make a complaint under the Payment of Wages Act using the online complaint form available on the WRC website, workplacerelations.ie. The Workplace Relations Commission also provides information on your rights and entitlements under employment legislation. For further information about your employment rights on pay slips and deductions from wages, you can contact its Information and Customer Service at Lo-call 1890 80 80 90 or through the website, workplacerelations.ie.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... KERRY HOTELIERS CAUTIOUS ABOUT BREXIT DESPITE GROWTH IN OVERSEAS VISITORS
Kerry hoteliers today welcomed the continuing growth in visitors to Ireland as recorded in the latest CSO figures (CSO figures). These show a 9.8% increase in trips to the Ireland by overseas visitors between May-July of this year. Kerry hoteliers state that this growth is very positive for the sector, helping to sustain local employment. However, they caution that the effect of Brexit and the weakness in sterling need to be monitored so that the sector can plan for potential negative impact. Terence Mulcahy, Chair of the Kerry Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation believes that the growth in visitors has delivered a major boost to Irish tourism, building on last year’s performance. The latest figures show visitor numbers from North America up 13.3% while Britain is recording an increase of 8.6% and the rest of Europe is up 10%. “There has been a real sense of optimism in Kerry this summer season, as we have seen more visitors on the ground. However, Brexit is a significant concern with Sterling having fallen by more than 16% against the Euro compared to this time last year. This could have a negative knock-on effect for our local tourism industry.” says Mr Mulcahy. Mr Mulcahy states that the tourism industry continues to provide economic growth and vital employment opportunities in Kerry thanks to a number of direct actions from the Government, including the zero rate travel tax and the 9% tourism VAT rate. “The 9% VAT rate in particular has been of major significance to the industry. This has brought our VAT rate into line with other European destinations and helped level the playing field for tourism businesses to compete for visitors. This has led to increased visitor numbers and also allowed tourism business in Kerry to create additional employment whilst reinvesting revenues in the sector. Tourism is now a major contributor to our economy, generating €380 million in Kerry and supporting 12,000 jobs.” He states that, in addition to the increase in overseas tourism, it is heartening to see that national tourism efforts to reignite the domestic tourism sector are having an effect. He says that Kerry hotels and guesthouses are witnessing increased business from Irish holidaymakers as growing numbers of people take advantage of the good value available. Mr Mulcahy cautions, however, that growth in hotel revenues in Kerry are coming from a low base following the downturn and that many hotels and guesthouses in rural areas continue to face significant challenges.
TESCO IN KERRY HOST COMMUNI-TEA PARTY ON 17TH SEPTEMBER
On 17th September, Tesco stores across Kerry will be throwing a Communi-Tea party, to celebrate donating over €48,000 to good causes across the county. All those that have benefited from the community fund to date; from schools and sports clubs to animal shelters and more; plus those interested in getting involved are invited to pop along to their local Tesco store for a cuppa and to highlight their good cause with Tesco customers. The Communi-Tea party will take place nationwide and marks an important milestone for Tesco Ireland which has donated nearly €2million to over 5,000 local causes through the Tesco Community Fund. To date in Kerry alone, Tesco’s five stores have donated to 192 local projects totalling €48,000 since the launch of the Tesco Community Fund in 2014. Christine Heffernan, Director of Corporate Affairs, Tesco Ireland said: “We are extremely proud of the positive impact our Community Fund has had to date. We have utilised our 148 stores to help over 5,000 good causes across Ireland. Our customers are the driving force behind the initiative, deciding who in their community deserves a little help, and that’s why it works. So we would urge everyone to keep this going and nominate a cause that could do with a little boost or that simply deserves some recognition for the great service it provides to the local area.” Tesco is now making it easier for customers to support a cause that matters to them, with the launch of a new online nominations process for the Community Fund. Online nominations will go live from 17th September, more information can be found at: www.tesco.ie/communityfund. Customers can now nominate either in their local store or online and every 8 weeks, up to €1,000 will be shared between three local causes. The Tesco Communi-Tea party will be taking place in Tesco stores nationwide on Saturday, 17th September between 12-4pm. 16

KERRY COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE ORGANISATION LAUNCHES MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE PREVENTION CONSULTATION PROCESS A series of public meetings will be held over the coming weeks to develop a Suicide Prevention Action Plan for Kerry. These public meetings will be hosted by community partners to help identify local needs and develop a local strategy to improve mental health and prevent suicidal behaviour in Kerry. Led by Kerry Community Healthcare, in partnership with local organisations and community and voluntary groups, the aim is to build on the national strategy for suicide prevention “Connecting for Life 2015.” Inviting as many people as possible attend the meetings, Ms Aileen Brosnan, Acting Suicide Resource Office for Kerry stressed that: “Suicide prevention is everyone’s business and we all need to be aware of what we can do individually and as part of our community to promote mental health and reduce suicide. A number of focus groups are currently being held with key priority groups across Kerry on the themes of suicide prevention and mental health and wellbeing. These are being run in parallel with the public meetings. We are delighted at the enthusiasm of the participants to date and so we want now to hear from the wider community to allow them to voice their opinions and views and contribute to this very important process.”
The group are also distributing posters to advertise the workshops as well as an online survey to give as many people as possible the opportunity to contribute to the local plan, with the questionnaire also now available on www.connectingforlifekerry.ie. Ms Brosnan concluded: “We have a great team working on the project drawn from all sectors of the community including Youth Services, Gardaí, Family Resource Centres and local authorities. We also have experts in the area of mental health from both Government and non Government organisations. This wide membership will ensure that the action plan will take account of the range of groups, organisations and services that need to work together to prevent suicide. IT’S ONLY A JOKE A MAGICIAN WAS WORKING ON A CRUISE SHIP...
A magician was working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The audience would be different each week, so the magician allowed himself to do the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem: The captain’s parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick. Once he understood he started shouting in the middle of the show: “Look, it’s not the same hat!” “Look, he is hiding the flowers under the table!” Hey, why are all the cards the Ace of Spades?” The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything; it was, after all, the captain’s parrot. One day the ship had an accident and sank. The magician found himself on a piece of wood in the middle of the ocean -- with the parrot, of course. They stared at each other with hate, but did not utter a word. This went on for a day and another and another. After a week the parrot said, “OK, I give up. Where’s the boat?”
A COWBOY APPEARS BEFORE ST. PETER.
A cowboy appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. “Have you ever done anything of particular merit?” St. Peter asked. “Well, I can think of one thing,” the cowboy offered. “On a trip to the Big Horn Mountains out in Wyoming, I came upon a gang of bikers who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn’t listen. So, I approached the largest and most tattooed biker and smacked him in the face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground.” I yelled, “Now, back off or I’ll kick the CR*P out of all of you” Saint Peter was impressed, “When did this happen?” “Couple of minutes ago.”

DIVORCE
An elderly man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, “I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.” “Pop, what are you talking about?” the son screams. “We can’t stand the sight of each other any longer,” the old man says. “We’re sick of each other, and I’m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her,” and he hangs up. Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. “They’re not getting divorced if I have anything to do about it,” she shouts, “I’ll take care of this.” She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at the old man, “You are NOT getting divorced. Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back, and we’ll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don’t do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?” and hangs up. The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife and says, “Okay, they’re coming for Thanksgiving...now what do we tell them for Christmas?”
A MARRIED MAN WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH HIS SECRETARY
One day, their passions overcame them and they took off for her house. Later on , they fell asleep and awoke at around 8 p.m. As the man threw on his clothes, he told the woman to take his shoes outside and rub them through the grass and dirt. Mystified, she nonetheless complied and he slipped into his shoes and drove home. “Where have you been?” demanded his wife when he entered the house. “Darling,” replied the man, “I can’t lie to you. I’ve been having an affair with my secretary. I fell asleep in her bed and didn’t wake up until eight o’clock.” The wife glanced down at his shoes and said, “You liar! You’ve been playing golf!”

Hello my beautiful friends! I hope you’re all having a great week!
This week I want to talk about my current beauty wishlist, I haven’t done a post like this in a while and I always love knowing what makeup other people are lusting after so I thought I’d let you all know mine! And yes, a lot of the things are from BeautyBay.com but that’s because it’s an amazing website that each and every one of you need in your lives! Also they do free shipping to Ireland over 20 euro soooooooo…. SOLD.
Zoeva Rose Golden Eye Brush Set –
Makeup Geek Kathleen Lights Highlight Palette – I’m a sucker for a good highlighter
Out of all my brushes, I love my eye brushes the most and I think it’s so important to invest in a good set. I’ve had my eye on these for a while on BeautyBay, they work out at 80 euro for the set of 12 brushes, that’s less than 7 euro per brush! They’re also soooooo pretty!
and after all the hype about this, I need this palette!!! It’s 50 euro again on BeautyBay, for three stunning highlighters. TAKE MY MONEY.
Morphe 35O Palette – After purchasing the more
colourful 35C Palette, I am dying to get my hands on the in demand 35O Palette. The eyeshadows are gorgeous and SO pigmented, they blend like an absolute dream. It’s also only 25 euro from BeautyBay, BARGAIN.
SoSu Gigi Lashes – I have
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer –
This has been on the list for a while now, I love brows and I’m still using my Dipbrow Pomade but I want to try something different. It’s less than 20 euro on BeautyBay and Anastasia is BROW QUEEN.
NARS Orgasm Blush – I feel like this
is an old school favourite that I most definitely should have tried by now, but alas, I have not…. YET. I am kind of obsessing over blushes lately and this one is at the top of my list.
heard great things about the SoSu lashes, and I do enjoy a good fake lash, so I’m just going to have to try out the Gigi Lashes. You can get them in CH Chemist Tralee, they don’t come with glue though, so get yourself to Pennys and get you some Duo Glue and you’ll be sorted!
Jouer Skinny Dip Lip Topper – MannyMua has me wanting this lip topper in ways I never knew I could want a lip product. IT IS STUNNING. I mean, cmon, gold over my lips? YASSSSSSSS.
Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation – Jaclyn Hill raved about this so bad that I now need it in my life. Recently I’m all about that dewy glowy foundation and this bad boy will give me life. I’m not sure where you can purchase this, other than Sephora which we do not have, but when I find out I will let you know!

HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK! ONE WEEK TO AYIA NAPA! I AM SO EXCITED!
These last few weeks have flown by and I’m so incredibly happy with my progress. At the weekend I did have a bit of a ‘Refeed’ because I was cutting calories for a good while and I’ve definitely noticed benefits from it, so this week I will be talking about ‘What is a Refeed’ and why they are important in your diet! So because my main goal is bodyfat percentage loss, I need to be in a caloric deficit. A caloric deficit is eating less calories than the total calories your body burns in a day. But because I am also going to the gym, I need to try and keep my metabolism, strength and energy as high as possible. When you are cutting calories, as the body adapts to your new diet and reduced calorie intake, your metabolism slows down—as does your weight-loss progress. Sure, you can drop more calories from your diet, but this will ultimately leave you feeling sluggish, tired, and unmotivated, especially at the gym. Rather than getting frustrated and giving up when your progress stalls, consider changing things up with your diet, and start eating more food. It may sound nonsensical, but scheduling periodic “breaks” in your diet can help to boost hormone levels, turning you back into a lean, mean, fat-burning machine. It will boost your metabolism back up so after your ‘refeed’ your metabolism will be higher when you’re eating the same amount of lower calories. It’s like one step back two steps forward. So for example, I have been in a ‘cutting phase’ for the last 8-12 weeks. But every few weeks I would notice a stall or slump in my progress. Because I weigh and measure myself almost everyday, it’s easy for me to notice a stall even though I have changed nothing. So last week I noticed

FITNESS!
my weight and measurements were just kinda hovering at the same numbers. I felt like although I was going to the gym, I had less energy than before. So last weekend I took a mini break from tracking and meal prepping etc. I didn’t go totally off the wall but I did up my carb intake and food intake in total from about Friday evening to Monday lunchtime. Like I had my regular breakfast, maybe a bit more carbs for lunch and then yes, I did have a dominos for dinner Saturday night! Tuesday, what did I do? Did I weigh myself and panic? No. In fact I didn’t gain a single pound throughout those three days. I just went back to eating exactly how I was before my ‘refeed weekend’ and it is now Thursday and I am down 2 pounds, feeling more energised, and just better overall. HOW/ WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? Let’s start with the basics. Leptin is a hormone released from fat tissue that plays a key role in regulating hunger and feelings of satiety. While leptin has many functions in the body, the main function is to control or regulate fat-cell size. Once leptin is released from fat cells, it is believed to signal to the brain that the body has received adequate food—and that it’s time to put the fork down. Usually, a refeed should consist of 2050% more calories than required for maintenance for 12 hours to two days. The higher you decide to bring your calories, the shorter period of time you will want to refeed for. If your leptin levels have almost dropped of the earth, you will want to refeed for a full week, but keep your calories slightly more moderate. The downside to a refeed is that sometimes you will have to accept a small amount of fat gain. But, looking on the bright side, when you go back to your diet, your metabolism will be humming again and you should jump start the fat loss process. In a few individuals, they will actually become leaner during the process; however this is not the norm. You can include some of your more desired foods in the refeed, after all,
this is partly to relieve you psychologically from the restraints you feel during the dieting process, however make sure the rest is coming from good sources. While I’m sure this information is helpful to a lot of you, I AM NOT RECOMMENDING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING. LOW CALORIE DIETS – While cutting I’m on like 1,600 calories a day. BINGING – My refeed weekend was not a binge, there is a huge difference. I did not starve myself to the point of no return and then eat everything in sight. I was eating a healthy balanced diet and then upped my calories and carbs slightly for a weekend with one of two cheat meals thrown in. If you want to be serious about nutrition and building muscle and generally being a more fit and healthy person, you need to go and seek out help from a professional who knows what he/she is talking about.

BLUEBERRY SAUCE
BLUEBERRY CRISP
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • •
2 cups fresh blueberries 1/4 cup water 1 cup orange juice 3/4 cup white sugar 1/4 cup cold water 3 tablespoons cornstarch 1/2 teaspoon almond extract 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
INGREDIENTS • • • • • •
4 cups fresh blueberries 1 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 cup white sugar 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup mayonnaise Yes the mayonnaise is meant to be there
METHOD
METHOD
1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the blueberries, 1/4 cup of water, orange juice, and sugar. Stir gently, and bring to a boil. 2. In a cup or small bowl, mix together the cornstarch and 1/4 cup cold water. Gently stir the cornstarch mixture into the blueberries so as not to mash the berries. Simmer gently until thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the almond extract and cinnamon. Thin sauce with water if it is too thick for your liking.
1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees C. 2. Place the blueberries into an 8 inch square baking dish. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Stir in the mayonnaise until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over the top of the berries. 3. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until the top is lightly browned
This is great with everything from pancakes, muffins and ice cream

TORQUING CARS! F1 ENGINEER CREATES FLAT-PACK OX TRUCK THAT CAN BE BUILT IN JUST 12 HOURS
British designers have created a flat-pack vehicle designed to solve transport problems in the developing world, writes Ed Wiseman. The Ox, effectively a light truck, is built using simple techniques and is designed to be transported and constructed with ease. It comes complete with all the tools required to put it together, and effectively ships using its own chassis as a crate. Developed by a distinguished team from the British automotive industry, the Ox is currently in its late prototype stage. Three examples of the vehicle currently exist, two of which were revealed in a presentation at the Round House in Chalk Farm on Tuesday September 6th. The event was held by the Global Vehicle Trust, a charity founded by Sir Torquil Norman to overcome transport issues faced in the developing world. Resembling a cross between a Forward Control Land Rover and a lunar buggy, the boxy Ox has a simple frame, high-torque diesel engine and an immensely versatile load area. It can carry up to 1,900kg of cargo in various formats, or up to 13 people including the driver. Each part of the Ox has been carefully designed to maximise efficiency or to double as something else: for example, the removable bench seats in the back can also be used as sand tracks. All of these features are part of the design brief that identified failures on the part of the mainstream automotive industry to cater for rural Africa. In countries where main manufacturers have no dealer network or formal parts distribution, maintenance can be difficult. Additionally, the prohibitively high cost of buying a new vehicle means that the cars available in some communities are very old. Whether the Ox will ever replace the existing flow of ex-NGO Toyotas and new Chinese knock-offs remains to be seen, but it’s clear that this new vehicle has been uniquely created with the African public in mind. There are no firm plans to market the Ox here in the UK, but potential applications are numerous. It’s very similar to vehicles old and new currently used on farms and estates around the country, with arguably more functionality and without reliance on foreign supply chains or scarce spare parts. It’s clear that – whether it becomes popular in Africa or not – the Ox is a well-designed vehicle that succeeds where other manufacturers fail.
MORGAN’S 90MPH EV3 ELECTRIC TRIKE GETS A SELFRIDGES MAKEOVER
One of the most striking and technologically intriguing British cars has undergone a thorough makeover at the hands of Selfridges, The EV3 is an electric trike made by British manufacturer Morgan. The Worcestershire-based firm is better-known for its four-wheeled sports cars, and more recently its conventional petrolpowered 3 Wheeler trike, but electric vehicles are destined to become a bigger part of its future thanks to government investment. Dubbed the UK 1909 Edition, the Selfridges special is the result of a creative partnership between Morgan and Selfridges. The car is even more eye-catching than the “ordinary” EV3, thanks to its dual headlight configuration (the standard car has one, asymmetrically mounted) and comprehensively overhauled design. In terms of driving, the Morgan EV3 promises buyers an exciting experience. A 0-62mph time of under 9 seconds will feel quite startling that low to the ground, as will the top speed of 90mph. Low weight and good aerodynamics are what you need when you’re running on battery power, and that’s exactly what Morgan’s battery-electric EV3 delivers. Under the skin is a 46kW electric motor powered by a front-mounted 20kWh lithium-ion battery. And with a kerb weight of about 500kg it will cover 150 miles between charges, though probably not if driven to its limits. Recharging off a 13-amp household supply takes about eight hours, but fast charging brings that time down to just over an hour. There are two modes: Normal which restricts the top speed, increases the regenerating braking and limits acceleration, and Sport “which is the full beans,” says Wells, who also claims it “drifts forever”.

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES Saturday in the Fitzgerald Stadium. Na Gaeil are in Premier Junior Championship semi-final action on September 25th when they play Listowel Emmets at 2pm. The other semi-final between Glenbeigh/Glencar and Ballydonighue follows at 3.30pm.
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR EAMONN STAYS: The ratification of Eamonn Fitzmaurice as Kerry manager for another 2 year term is a formality and should be confirmed by the time you are reading this. The County Board officers didn’t have to look beyond their present guy once he indicated he was open to the offer. Eamonn took over in 2012 and has won an All-Ireland title and four Munster titles in a row since he became the boss. And after the most recent defeat most people reckon that he could not have gotten much more out of his players, who certainly have played for the manager in his 4 years in charge. After the All-Ireland defeat last year he agreed to stay on for this year and probably the only blemish on his time is that Dublin have gotten the better of us on the last 4 occasions we met them. They are odds on to complete back to back Sam Maguire wins and are the team of the moment. However there is nothing better for a manager to have is an opponent he really wants to beat to focus the squad and back room team. It is important that Kerry has continuity in its management set-up at the moment as there will probably be some changes to the squad going forward. But looking at the minor set-up and indeed the Juniors there is plenty of talent coming through for Eamonn to mould another winning team. There is no indication yet as to who his back room team will be or if there will be any changes. Eamonn reappointment means that both the counties senior footballers and hurlers will have the same management next season as Ciaran Carey has also agreed to stay on in his position. HURLERS BREAK THE 5-IN-A-ROW HOODOO: A 5 in a row in any sport is something very difficult to achieve, as we all know, but credit to those behind the minor hurling set up in the county they have achieved this by winning their 5th All Ireland B final in a row last weekend. In the end they defeated Meath 41-7 to 3-11 and in case anyone thinks that it was an easy win the sides were level inside the last ten minutes. But Kerry showed all their class when it came to crunch time and Shane Conway picked up the trophy after having a very good game himself where he scored a goal to match anything seen in Croke Park. Credit must also go to the hurling authorities for playing the game in Semple Stadium and giving these young players the opportunity to play in what is considered the Home of Hurlling. The 5 in a row is the latest success story for Kerry hurling which is enjoying great times at the moment. And the small ball’s big day in the County is this Sunday when Ballyduff and Kilmoyley contest the Garvey’s Supervalu Senior Hurling County Championship final. By all accounts the game, which throws in at 3.30pm is expected to be

a tight affair. The minor decider has the novel pairing of Lixnaw versus Crotta O’Neills and this gets underway at 1.30pm. 31ST TIME FOR THE 13’S: One of the biggest underage tournaments of the season takes place this weekend when the 31st Austin Stacks Hurling and Football Club / Lee Strand U13 Invitational Football tournament takes place in the town. The tournament takes place in Connolly Park with 16 teams from all over the country taking part. Joining the hosts are fellow Tralee clubs John Mitchels, Kerins O’Rahillys and Na Gaeil. Also taking part are Churchill, An Gaeltacht and Killarney Legion. Travelling to Tralee are Ennistymon from Clare, Dublin’s Clontarf, Cuala and Ballyboden/St Enda’s, Corks Nemo Rangers and Na Piarsaigh, Naas from Kildare and Salthill /Knocknacarra from Galway. This competition began 30 years ago with 4 teams and Stacks winning the first year. Salthill /Knocknacara defeated Stacks in last years final and are going for three in a row this year. GIRLS ENJOY CARMEL O’CONNOR BLITZ: There was the wonderful sight of girls teams from around the county enjoying the Carmel O’Connor Blitz at Na Gaeil last Saturday. Carmel was a Garda who lost her life to cancer 10 years ago and is fondly remembered with the Blitz every year. The teams joining the hosts were Duagh, Annascaul, Finuge/St Senans, Austin Stacks, Listowel Emmets, Castleisiand Desmonds, Dingle, Abbeydorney, Scartaglin and Kerins O’Rahillys. Kerry star and Garda Aidan O’Mahoney’s appearance on the day was a great thrill for all the participants. ATTENTION RETURNS TO THE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP: With Kerry exiting the All Ireland Championship a few weeks before most hoped the attention returns to the Garvey’s Supervalu County Championship. Kerins O’Rahillys will be happy that their much anticipated game against Dr Crokes is on in Tralee. They will play the Killarney Black and Amber at Austin Stacks Park in their quarter final but the Tralee Black and Amber are on the road as will be in the Fitzgerald Stadium for their clash with Kenmare. The 4 quarter finals are set for the weekend of October 1st and 2nd. The Rahilly / Crokes clash is on Saturday the 1st at 3pm followed by South Kerry against Dingle. The following the day the action gets underway in Killarney at 2pm with Mid Kerry taking Rathmore followed by the Stacks clash. Other Fixtures: This weekend the Senior Club Championship Final sees Stacks and Crokes clash at 5.30pm on
STACKS UNDER AGE NEWS: The under 6/8/9/10’s are training as normal. There is also great enjoyment with the Bracker Regan Cup on-going. The u9’s are heading to Cork to defend their Canty Cup title against St Finbarrs who are hosting the tournament, Kilmacud Crokes, Nemo Rangers and Douglas Round Towers from Kidare. This is always a great day for the young stars. The u10’s are training for the John Lynch Invitational Tournament, which the club hosts and the Siobhan Cotter Blitz in Churchill in October. The u12’s play their last game of the season against Laune Rangers this weekend. The u13’s are looking forward to the Lee Strand U13 Tournament where the boys are in the group with Legion, Ennistymon and Nemo Rangers. The u14 have already captured the County and Central League and are now looking for the treble if they can win the Town League. They are away to Churchill in their opener on September 18th. The u16’s just lost out to Scart/Cordal and now turn their attention to the Town League and the District Competition. In the Town League they play Na Gaeil away on the 15th. PARNELLS NEWS: Big Blitz a Big Success: The Big Blitz was a huge success with over 200 boys and 200 girls enjoying the games at John Mitchels grounds. To run something like this took a huge amount of work from the committee and volunteers so well done to all involved. President Presents: It was great to see Eileen Cotter, Club President presenting the silverware on the day. Eileen is a living link with the very early days of the club and her father won a Kerry Hurling Championship medal in 1919 playing for the then Parnells club while her aunt also played Camogie for Tralee. The club also thanks its own players and management and those of the visiting teams for making this a great day for all involved. Special thanks to the sponsors Ballymac Dairy for the Cups and Shields, Byrne’s Spar for the fruit and waters and to Pro Plan Property Management. Check out the club’s Facebook page for photos and further feedback from the Big Blitz. The u12’s had a good win for Abbeydorney in the County League. They have one game left against Dr Crokes. ST PAT’S NEWS: Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 1,7,11 and 16 and the next jackpot will be e2,300. The draw this Sunday night is in O’Dwyer’s Bar. Academy: There was a huge turn-out of boys and girls at the Academy last Sunday morning. This Sunday the Academy takes a break for the Fun Day and 5km walk in memory of club stalwart Tony O’Donoghue. The Walk starts at 12 noon from the clubhouse and the proceeds go to The Palliative Care Unit. There will be refurbishments and lots of events for the family afterwards. 12’s: The 12’s are expected to receive a walkover from Desmonds in the Kelliher’s Toyota Central Region Division 4 League. Seniors: The Seniors made the long trip to Dromid Pearses needing a draw to guarantee a play-off but in the end were well beaten 2-11 to 0-10. The home side needed the win to guarantee safety in Division 3 while the defeat leaves St Pat’s in a 3-way play-off with

Selector Selected: St Pat’s would like to congratulate current player and selector Adrain Greaney on his recent appointment with UCC.
Avenue B were beaten by Abhainn Li. In Denny Premier B Classic FC drew 1-1 with Castleisland B. Classic went ahead in the first half when a Joe Duggan shot was deflected into the net. Castleisland B replied in the last minute of the half and neither side could find a winner.
KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: Seniors go down to Mitchels: In the Credit Union County League the seniors were well beaten by John Mitchels 2-12 to 0 -10. Mitchels needed the win to secure their place in Division 1 and duly did this. They led by 3 points at the break 0-08 to 0-05 but hit two early goals in the second half to ensure there was no comeback. Preparation will now turn to the Championship quarter final against Dr Crokes. Cahill Cup: Charlie Kerins are in mid-week action in the Cahill Cup and we will have their result against Beale next week. Juveniles: The Girls really enjoyed the Blitz in Na Gaeil and well done to all who organised this great day. The girls will head to Passage West next Saturday for another Blitz. Training for the Boys continues at the normal times each week. The u14’s were too strong for Milltown/Castlemaine in the final of the Kellihers Garage Central Region CLG Under 14’s. The boys won 3-11 to 3-03. The half time score was 1-05 to 1-01 so the second half was a cracker. Well done to the squad and management. The trophy was presented to captain Conor O’Sullivan and the Man of the Match was Daniel Bowler.
U17’S GO DOWN TO COBH: The Kerry u17’s were defeated 3-0 away to Cobh Ramblers. Kerry conceded half way through the first half but were well in the game until they conceded two goals in the last 15 minutes. They are at home to Waterford United in their penultimate home game this Sunday at 2pm.
There next outing will be in the Tralee Town Board with the first game this weekend. The u16’s have had a break for a few weeks but are now back in action in the Town League. Ladies: The Ladies are on a recycling drive until September 21st. The under-age teams are in training at the normal times. Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn and the next jackpot will be e3,900. RANDLES BROTHERS TERRACE TALK SPORTS STAR FOR AUGUST: The nominations are out for the August Terrace Talk Sport Star of the Month in association with Randles Brothers. The nominees are British Junior Rally Championship winners Rob Duggan and Ger Conway, Triple Masters Athletics champion Patsy O’Connor and Junior Cup winning team from the Tralee Golf Club. KDL NEWS: The Kerry District League saw action for town sides this week with Tralee Celtic defeating Ballyhar Dynamos 2-0. Steven O’Mahony and Jordan Murphy were the Celtic scorers in their Denny Division 1A win. Mitchels Avenue also picked up three points in a 3-1 win. The Tralee side will be very happy with their start in this Division and won with goals from Chris O’Sullivan and debutant Brendan Coffey who scored twice on his debut. They also had to thank David Hennessey who made two outstanding saves. In Division 2 Tralee Bay defeated Clanmaurice 4-1 (Timmy Collins, Chris Foley, Ian Flaherty and Stephen Cahill). Mitchels
and the other is a newer business in the media world! RUGBY SHORTS: Well done to Tralee Rugby Club on hosting and winning the Moss Keane Tournament. The Munster u18’s defeated Ulster 19-14 in Derry and Joe O’Connor and Joe Quilter were on the squad. Training for the underage, ladies and seniors is on-going and information on times is available from any club member. WHO WON WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE AWARDS NIGHT: The 2016 World Series of Swimming is over for the year but who has won the Swimmer of the Year is not yet known. All will be revealed at The Dual Club Awards Night on September 24th at the Meadowlands Hotel. The night is being run in conjunction with the Tri Club and tickets are online from Eventbrite or committee members and spaces are limited. There were 6 people in contention for the big prize going into the last swim.
CORK AND GALWAY PIP KERRY IN THE CRICKET: In the Munster Division 2 Cork Cricket Club made the trip to the Kingdom a winning one. They defeated the North Kerry Cricket Club after reaching their target of 164. They did this for the loss of 5 wickets. Kerry were all out on 163 for 7. The County Kerry Cricket Club were defeated by Galway in a game that was closer than the scoreboard says. Kerry were all out for 171 with Adyamar top scoring on 35 followed by Usman on 32. They were chasing the target of 214 set by the Tribesmen.
FIRST ROUND OF STEVE KENNEDY MEMORIAL: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the final of the Gain A1 525 yards stake. On Saturday night we have the first rounds of the Steve Kennedy Memorial A5 confined 525 yards. Entries are now been taken for the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Supporters Club A3 confined 525 yards stake. This is for 48 dogs with a winner’s prize of e6000. All owners must be paid up members and have ran at least 2 races at Tralee over any distance. The first rounds take place on Friday October 7th.
MERCY MOUNTHAWK GO DOWN IN INVITATIONAL FINAL: Mercy Mounthawk hosted their annual Invitational Basketball Tournament at the weekend. This was the 7th year the school hosted the competition which sees the best schools in the country coming to Tralee. There were 7 internationals on the various teams. Five previous winners went on to win the All Ireland title after their success in Mounthawk so this is a very important tournament for coaches to see where they are at this time of the season. The action began on Saturday morning with the hosts defeating Tipperary Titans but they lost a thriller to the Southwest U15 team – a combination teams of the best from the schools in the Southwest Region – going down by 3 points. Mounthawk got back to winning ways defeating St Mary’s from Galway and Portlaoise to go into Sunday’s semi-finals thanks to their second place in the Group which was topped by Portlaoise. Portlaoise had a comprehensive win over Titan’s in their semi-final while Mounthawk defeated the Southwest team by 5 points after trailing for most of the game. Unfortunately the hosts ran out of steam in the final which saw Portlaoise take the win by 10 points.
ON THE GREEN’S: Tralee: The Lady’s Presidents Prize – Joan Ivers – was won by Laura Rafferty with Emma Leahy in second. Third was Barbara Reen with Catherine McCarthy 4th. The Best Gross prize was won by Mags Hayes. In the Category sections Cat 1 was won by Liz Grey, Cat 2 by Gorretti O’Connor and Cat 3 to Bernie Buckley. Deirdre McElligott was the winning Past Captain with the Committee Prize going to Fionnuala Mann and the 9 hole competition to Gene Kennedy.
WARRIORS HOME: It now seems that Tralee’s new men’s Super League team, The Warriors, will play their home games at the Tralee Sports Complex. For fans of the game they will be hoping for a return to the big basketball nights that the venue is famous for. There has also be a preview of the clubs jersey’s and sponsors on-line and it’s great to see these businesses supporting the Warriors. However to be fair to the new set up I won’t mention them until the clubs official launch. Suffice to say that one business is a well-known sporting sponsor
HAPPY 21ST FOR MARY: No we are not doing birthday requests! The 21st is the hole on which Tralee’s Mary Sheehy clinched the European Senior Ladies title for the Irish team. And to make the 21st even sweeter Mary holed a 50 foot putt to give Ireland a 3 and 2 win over Belgium in the tournament. The Oakpark golfer, who was part of the 6 strong Irish squad, which won the title at the Sierra Golf Club in Poland and Mary’s putt saw Ireland winning the title for the second time. Mary is steeped in sport and is the daughter of former Kerry player and John Mitchels legend Niall and is a member of Tralee, Killarney and Ballybunion clubs and has been a regular on Munster sides for many years.
