CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF MUSICALS IN TRALEE
Tralee Musical Society is celebrating keeping the audiences of Kerry entertained for 30 years with an action packed celebratory show for three nights only from the 15th -17th of November this year. ‘We’re really hoping to encourage past members to rejoin us for our special 30th anniversary show, ‘Salute to the Musicals’. This show will be a spectacular celebration of all of the award winning shows we have performed over 30 years, recreating scenes from our best shows, and encouraging the stars and leads of those shows to at least rejoin us for those scenes, if not to reprise their role entirely. We are delighted to have an extremely talented choral director on board for this show in Elaine Canning and of course the mastermind himself, award winning director Oliver Hurley.’ It will be a very busy time for TMS as they are already in full blown rehearsals for the musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ - Youth Edition, which will go onstage in Siamsa Tíre from the 12th - 15th October. With rehearsals for Salute to the Musicals starting next week, anyone interested in taking part is asked to get in touch on Facebook, and be ready for some great fun as this unmissable show is put together!

CAUSEWAY CAMOGIE NEWS:
Congratulations to the Causeway U12 girls who won the U12 blitz played in Causeway on Sunday morning. A delighted captain Sarah Kearney accepted the trophy on behalf of her team mates. The U12 County League A Final between Causeway & Cillard will take place on Monday the 26th of September.
Directed by Andrew Flynn, Decadent Theatre presents The Pillowman, an unquestionably superlative production of a marvellous, thought provoking play. Written by internationally acclaimed author Martin McDonagh (writer & director of In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths), this mustsee production celebrates the raw, vital human instinct to invent fantasies, to lie for sport, to con for one’s own end. The Pillowman is as dark a comedy as it is possible to find and has earned rave reviews across Ireland and taken the West End and Broadway by storm.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... KERRY AIMS TO BOOST YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS
On Monday the 19th September, representatives from Kerry businesses, enterprise support agencies, Kerry County Council and IT Tralee gathered at the Ballygarry House Hotel to launch the Interreg Entrepreneurial European Region (iEER) Project “Boosting Innovative Entrepreneurial Ecosystems in Europe”. The aim of this project is to create an opportunity for entrepreneurs, aged between 25 and 40 years of age, to learn from different models of best entrepreneurial practice across Europe. In 2011, Kerry was awarded the title of Entrepreneurial European Region (EER) of the year. This status identifies and rewards EU regions which show an outstanding and innovative entrepreneurial policy strategy, irrespective of their size, wealth and competences. The regions with the most credible, forward-thinking and promising vision plan are granted the label “European Entrepreneurial Region” (EER) for a specific year. Kerry has joined with 17 other regions across Europe in obtaining this status. Kerry is by far the smallest in area and population size relative to the other regions across Europe, however, Kerry as a region matches the partners across all the metrics. The iEER project, which has ten partners (8 of whom have EER status), is led by Helsinki- Uusimaa Regional Council and other project members include Northern Ireland, Brandenburg region in in Germany, Southern Denmark, Valencia in Spain, Nord–Pas-de-Calais in France, Marche in Italy plus two non EER Regions – West Pomerania Region of Poland AND the Western Region of Romania. Over the next two years project partners will learn from each other to build better services and regional policies in support of business start-ups and young entrepreneurs. International learning camps are core to the iEER allowing enterprise support agencies, academic institutions and young entrepreneurs to identify and road map what makes or breaks a budding business. The first learning camp will take place next week in Brandenburg where partner regions will travel to learn about the entrepreneurial mind-set and competences. The follow on peer reviews will assist each partnering region on how they might improve their local eco-systems. In March 2017, representatives from each of the 10 regions will travel to Ireland and will spend time in Northern Ireland and Kerry studying the enterprise ecosystems of both regions.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... TRALEE CREDIT UNION TO GIVE AWAY €10500 TO ITS STUDENT MEMBERS !
Calling all college students would €1,500 help finance your studies? if the answer is yes, then check out Tralee Credit Union’s Education and Dan Kellegher Memorial Awards. Tralee Credit Union’s Education Awards are open to undergraduates in a full time course of at least 2 years’ duration and Dan Kellegher Memorial Awards are open to post-graduates in a full or part-time course of at least 1 years’ duration. In total Tralee Credit Union give away €10,500 to seven lucky members who each receive €1,500 towards their chosen course of study. Open to all Tralee Credit Union members in college, you can apply for their awards online on their website www.traleecu.ie If you are yet not a member and are eligible to join Tralee Credit Union, you can join and enter before Friday 30th of September, the closing date for these awards. Speaking to Suzanne Ennis, Marketing and Business Development Manager, Tralee Credit Union “it’s an expensive time of year with a huge financial burden placed on students and their families. While our education awards don’t solve the problem they do go a long way towards easing the financial pressure. We offer an easy and quick online application process on our website. All you have to do is visit our website www.traleecu.ie fill in your details and you could be one of seven lucky members randomly selected to win. For students who need a loan we have a very low Student loan rate available to both students and their parents. We also have a low rate Saver’s Loan for parents who have saved up for college to give them the option to “spend it or save it” on loans of €5,000 or more. Most people find it easier to repay a loan than it is to save so they borrow on the strength of their savings. With our saver’s loan they still have their savings at the end of the loan plus they have the flexibility of knowing that they can repay their loan anytime without penalty and they have peace of mind of free life cover on both their loans and their savings with our Loan Protection and Life Savings Insurance” For further information on Tralee Credit Union’s awards and loans go to their website or call in or phone their offices in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... PHANTOM OF THE OPERA FOR TRALEE The most famous musical of all time, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera is finally coming to Siamsa Tire Theatre for a limited run from Tuesday to Saturday, September 27th to October 1st . Presented by the multi-award-winning Light Opera Society of Tralee (LOST) and directed by Grainne O’ Carroll this is a fully-fledged production of the work with live orchestra and a cast of fifty gifted performers drawn from Tralee, Killarney, Miltown, Killorglin, Dingle, Listowel, Causeway and Tarbert who have been rehearsing since early May. Heading up the cast and sharing the role of the Phantom are Killarney man Eoin Foran and Tralee’s Sean McElligott . Eoin hails from Crosstown and was a student of St. Oliver’s, Ballycasheen and the Intermediate School, Killorglin. He studied singing in Tralee with Kerry School of Music Director Aidan O’ Carroll and was a finalist in the Kerry School of Music Student of the Year competition in April of this year. Eoin is a full-time music student in the Cork School of Music B.A Music course. Sean, from Knockawaddra is a relative newcommer to music theatre having been catapulted into his first leading role as Jean Valjean in Mounthawk’s Les Miserables in January 2016 of this year. Miltown Soprano Mikaela O’ Sullivan and Spa’s Tracy O’ Keeffe have been chosen to share the role of Christine Daeé, the young chorus girl who becomes the object of the Phantom’s passion. Mikaela, who is making her stage debut in a leading role, is a student of Miltown Secondary School while Tracy who has played a number of previous leading roles is a pupil of Mounthawk Secondary School. Music of the Night, Love me that’s all I ask of you, Think of me, Wishing you were somehow here again Masquerade are just some of the memorable numbers in the show. DELICIOUS FOOD AND GREAT TASTE AT THE HEART OF BIGGER, BETTER SECOND ANNUAL TRALEE FOOD FESTIVAL
‘PEOPLE who love to eat are always the best people’, and the 2016 Tralee Food Festival promises to bring smiles to the faces of lots of people from 23 to 25 September. The event, which returns after last year’s successful debut, will feature longer Taste and Craft Beer Trails, an Artisan Food Market, Cookery Demonstrations and a variety of menus at some of Tralee’s top food and beverage haunts including hotels, restaurants, bars and cafés. The President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, John Drummey who launched the Festival with Mayor of Tralee Cllr Terry O’Brien, said: “The Tralee Food Festival will provide a platform from where the wider public will get to experience the wonderful taste of what Tralee has to offer. Having the Atlantic to the west and with some of the best pasture in Europe on our doorstep, Tralee can justly claim to produce the highest-quality, natural ingredients that others can only dream of. Our chefs and restaurants make the most of our produce and they are earning a world-wide reputation for their creativity and skill.” The opening event of the Tralee Food Festival will feature a Guinness, Jazz and Seafood Banquet with Spa Seafoods at Kirby’s Brogue Inn at the bottom of the Rock (Street), Tralee at 6pm on Friday 23rd September. The Tralee Food Festival Taste Trail will include 13 locations where delicious bites will be available for the public to eat for only €2 each from 10am until late, while a number of cooking demonstrations will be held in the Square from 12pm on Saturday 24th September. To celebrate the continued growth of Craft Beers as the beverage of choice for many pub-goers, the Tralee Food Festival has extended the Craft Beer Trail to incorporate five local hostelries in town. Such was the success of last year’s Sunday Brunch, another late morning/early afternoon offering will be served at selected restaurants on the 25th September. Festival Menus are now available from selected restaurants for the duration of the Festival and they can be seen or downloaded from the Tralee Food Festival Facebook Page. John Drummey thanked everyone who has played a role in developing the first ever Tralee Food Festival, in particular – The Artisan Food Market vendors, the weekly Tralee Farmers Market vendors, Transition Kerry, Garvey’s Supervalu, Noel Keane, Culinary Arts Department of the Institute of Technology Tralee, Dingle Cookery School, Rural Food Skillnet, Kerry County Council, Kingdom Party Pals and the members of Tralee Chamber Alliance. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... COLÁISTE GLEANN LÍ STANDS UP TO BULLYING AND LAUNCHES THE ISPCC SHIELD BANGLE IN KERRY
The ISPCC has launched its 2016 Shield Campaign, raising awareness of the need to Stand Up Against Bullying, and asking the public to support the campaign by buying a bangle in Penneys’ stores nationwide. Last year, the Penneys bangles raised over €36,000 for the Shield Anti-Bullying programme. You can support this campaign by simply purchasing a Shield bangle in Penneys Tralee. The ISPCC bangle features the shield pendant with a bangle for women and a band for men, both featuring the blue Shield colour. The bangles cost just €2.50 and you can also buy Shield pins, which cost €2, at all Penneys outlets nationwide. All profits will be donated to the ISPCC Shield programme. Coláiste Gleann Lí, who were the first school in Kerry to receive the Shield Flag as part of the Shield Anti-Bullying programme, will launch the Shield bangle in Kerry. IPSCC Chief Executive Grainia Long stated: “In 2015, 7,048 contacts were made to Childline about bullying. The young people we work with in our mentoring and emotional and behavioural support services in the community also bring up bullying as a key issue for them.* The Shield Programme is available to schools, clubs and other groups working with young people, with a range of supports to help them to tackle and prevent bullying – Shield My School Toolkit, Shield My Club Toolkit, Shield Flag and the Shield Youth Award; all developed by the ISPCC to support our communities. Coláiste Gleann Lí’s Assistant Principal Maryanne Lowney stated: “Colaiste Gleann Lí were the first school in Kerry to receive a Shield Flag so we are hoping to encourage other schools in the area to get involved in the anti-bullying campaign. We are delighted to be involved in the Shield campaign and continue to stand up to bullying. “What you wear can make a difference. Buy your bangle in Penneys Tralee and help support a really good cause.” The ISPCC’s Shield Anti-Bullying Programme includes the Shield My School Self-Evaluation Tool and Shield My Club Self-Evaluation Tool programmes, which supports schools, early years services and clubs to develop enhanced anti-bullying measures, working with classes, teachers and childcare workers together to raise awareness of bullying and its impacts and how it can be reduced and effectively guarded against. In 2015, 19 Shield Flags were awarded to primary and secondary schools, early years services and Youthreach Centres that have completed their anti-bullying programme and achieved a high standard in this work. All schools, clubs and early years services who wish to strengthen their preventative approach to bullying can find out more about the ISPCC’s Anti-Bullying Shield Campaign at ispcc.ie/shield. For more information on the Shield programme, you can contact National Anti-Bullying Coordinator Sinead McKee – Sinead.McKee@ ispcc.ie, 0867226788
FUN RUN FOR CBS THE GREEN
CBS, The Green is hosting its second 5k and 3k fun run on Sunday, the 25th of September at 1pm. The fun run, which saw over 500 runners take part last year is a fund raiser for the school’s all- weather pitch which is currently under construction. Having raised 3000 Euro last year, the school hopes to match if not better that amount this year. The 5k and 3k distances are aimed at all types of running abilities, with both courses being predominantly flat. Walkers are also welcome. The cost of the event is 10e for adults and 5e for students and children. With prizes for the winners, music, medals for all, a mass warm up on the day, post-race refreshments, bouncy castles and face painting for the kids, this event promises to be a great day out for all the family. Parking on the day will be available in surrounding car parks but not on the school’s grounds. It is advised to come early to soak up the atmosphere and take part in the mass warm up led by runner Billy o Brien. Norman Foley of Spar, Castlemaine road, Tralee has come on board once again to sponsor the medals and trophies and Lee Strand is sponsoring the race numbers, and the post-race refreshments. Registration and number collection takes place in the school on Saturday, the 24th of September from 2pm to 6pm and on the day of the run from 9am to 1245pm. More information on Facebook (CBS, the Green 5k/3k run) or contact the school on (066) 7145824.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: PATERNITY BENEFIT Question My partner and I are expecting a baby in September. Can I claim the new Paternity Benefit? Are there any other benefits I can claim? Answer Paternity Benefit is a new payment for employed and self-employed people who are on paternity leave from work and covered by social insurance (PRSI). The PRSI classes that count for Paternity Benefit are A, E, H (with the exception of serving members of the Defence Forces) and S (self-employed). Paternity Benefit is paid for two weeks (in one block) and is available for any child born or adopted on or after 1 September 2016. You can start paternity leave at any time within the first 6 months following the birth or adoption placement. If you are already getting certain social welfare payments, then you may get half-rate Paternity Benefit. You must notify your employer four weeks before you intend to go on paternity leave (12 weeks if you are self-employed). You must provide proof of the expected date of birth (this is a certificate from your spouse’s or partner’s doctor confirming when the baby is due) or confirmation of the birth if you are applying after the baby has been born. In the case of adoption, you must produce a certificate of placement. Paternity Benefit is available from 1 September 2016. You can apply online at mywelfare.ie for Paternity Benefit from 5 September 2016 (your payment will be backdated if necessary). You must have a Public Services Card to apply for Paternity Benefit. You can also claim up to 18 weeks of unpaid parental leave from work (until your child’s eighth birthday - or 16th if they have a disability). Both parents have a separate entitlement to 18 weeks’ parental leave.

Hello beautiful people! I hope you’re all having a great week.
I’m off on holidays this week so I’m going to be talking about an essential staple in the holiday bag, I love coconut oil, it has so many uses and benefits.
HAIR MASK: Coconut oil will give your hair a silky texture and lots of shine. I use coconut oil as a hair mask at night after I’ve
washed my hair. Simply heat up about 5 tablespoons of coconut oil in the microwave, so that it’s a warm liquid. Then, apply it to your hair like any other hair mask. Put on a plastic shower cap or wrap an old T-shirt around your head, and leave the oil in while you sleep. The next morning, wash it off in the shower and wow, hello perfect hair! The sun this week will dry out my hair lots so this mask will definitely the a saviour!
EYE MAKEUP REMOVER: I use coconut oil to remove my eye makeup. It takes every little bit of eye makeup off and also promotes eyelash growth. Win win situation!
FACE/BODY MOISTURISER: If you rub a little bit of coconut oil between your hands, you will immediately notice how
incredibly moisturising it feels on your skin. As a face and body moisturiser, coconut oil is much more hydrating than average storebought lotions because the oil penetrates deep layers of the skin and actually helps to strengthen underlying tissues. It will also help remove dead skin cells, removing any rough or flaky texture from your skin’s surface and giving you a full body glow. You can use coconut oil as a moisturiser for your entire face, but I like to put it under my eyes and on my lips before bedtime. The best part about this oil is that it will absorb into your skin without feeling oily or greasy. Perfect way to maintain that holiday tan!

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS! I hope you’re all having a fantastic week! For me, while you’re reading this, i’ll be in sunny Ayia Napa! So this week I’m just going to go back to basics, how to get into fitness if you’re a beginner, or to get into a stricter/new fitness routine.
1
Start small: Start by making small changes to your food or exercise plan. If you try to make loads of giant changes at once, you will more than likely fail. Trust me, I know.
2
Set realistic goals: Like starting small, this one is essential. If you set realistic goals that are genuinely achievable you’re more likely to succeed. If your goals are unrealistic they’ll seem too far away or too hard to reach and you’ll get easily unmotivated.
you. Not to try and please or impress someone else. Unless you want it hard enough, you won’t stay motivated. Do it so that you’re a better and healthier version of yourself.
5
WATER: With any new fitness regime, it is sooooo sooooo important to be properly hydrated. There are so many health benefits to proper hydration!
3
Get help: I mean professional fitness help, if you feel you need it. There is nothing better to help you reach your goals than advice from a professional who knows exactly what you should do.
4
You have to want it: If you’re starting a fitness regime, you have to want it for

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... HUGE REACTION TO THE ‘NEW’ BRANDON GYM
According to Gym Manager Craig Clifford “While we only opened the new gym two weeks ago we have seen a big increase in the number of members. We listened to our members needs over the last 6 months and we knew exactly what our members were asking for and I’m glad to say we delivered on our promise. Our members have been so happy with the new layout as it gives all our members more space and with the added weights equipment we have equipment to suit all needs. Our new Matrix cardio is the first of its kind in Ireland, the technology has really gave our members a whole new aspect on how to do cardiovascular training. Gone are the days of monotonous treadmill work, all our cardio equipment is interactive which means if you want to go for a run in los Angeles you can, go for a cycle in Paris or go cross country skiing in Vancouver its up to and there is much more than that to choose from. In addition to that, every workout is recorded and with over 4000 music videos built into the machines you can make your own playlist for your workout. If that’s not enough then all our equipment comes with built in TVs to watch your favourite show while you train. Its great to see such excitement and smiling faces around the leisure centre now. We added new Personal Trainers to our staff too which makes the gym experience that little bit smoother. We are changing the way health and fitness is delivered to the public, making the Leisure Centre experience a more personal one. Take note, this is only the beginning.”

IT’S ONLY A JOKE SALESMAN AND THE GENIE....
A salesman walking along the beach found a bottle. When he rubbed it, lo and behold, a genie appeared. “I will grant you three wishes,” announced the genie. “But since Satan still hates me, for every wish you make, your rival gets the wish as well — only double.” The salesman thought about this for a while. “For my first wish, I would like ten million dollars,” he announced. Instantly the genie gave him a Swiss bank account number and assured the man that $10,000,000 had been deposited. “But your rival has just received $20,000,000,” the genie said. “I’ve always wanted a Ferrari,” the salesman said. Instantly a Ferrari appeared. “But your rival has just received two Ferraris,” the genie said. “And what is your last wish?” “Well,” said the salesman, “I’ve always wanted to donate a kidney for transplant.”
A MAN IS AT HIS WIFE’S FUNERAL
My condolences. I can’t imagine how terrible it must’ve been to lose a wife.” “That’s okay, I’m used to it. This is the fourth time I got married and my wife died. My first wife died after eating a venomous mushroom.” “How about your second wife?” “She ate a venomous mushroom.” “And your third wife?” “Also a venomous mushroom.” “I bet your fourth wife also died after eating a venomous mushroom.” “Nah, she was shot in the head.” “Why?” “Because she refused to eat the bloody mushroom!.”

A PENGUIN WALKS INTO A BAR...
A penguin walks into a bar and asks the bartender “do you have any plums?” The bartender replies “no, we do not serve plums.” The penguin says thanks and leaves. The next day the penguin returns and asks the bartender “do you have any plums?” The bartender replies “no, once again, we do not serve plums.” The penguins says thanks and leaves. The next day the penguin returns and asks the bartender “do you have any plums?” The bartender, infuriatingly, yells at the penguin “NO WE DO NOT HAVE PLUMS, IF YOU COME BACK ASKING FOR PLUMS I AM GOING TO NAIL YOUR PENGUIN FEET TO THE FLOOR.” The penguin, saddened, simply leaves. The next day the penguin returns and asks the bartender “do you have any nails?” The bartender, confused, replies “no?” The penguin then asks “do you have any plums?”
IRISH BANK ROBBERY
Once inside the bank shortly after midnight, their efforts at disabling the security system got underway immediately. The robbers, who expected to find one or two large safes filled with cash & valuables, were surprised to see hundreds of smaller safes throughout the bank. The robbers cracked the first safe’s combination, and inside they found only a small bowl of vanilla pudding. As recorded on the bank’s audio tape system, one robber said, ‘At least we’ll have a bit to eat.’ The robbers opened up a second safe, and it also contained nothing but vanilla pudding. The process continued until all safes were opened. They did not find one pound sterling, a diamond, or an ounce of gold. Instead, all the safes contained covered little bowls of pudding. Disappointed, the robbers made a quiet exit, each leaving with nothing more than a queasy, uncomfortably full stomach. The newspaper headline read: ‘IRELAND’S LARGEST SPERM BANK ROBBED EARLY THIS MORNING’....

TORQUING CARS! CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN (Daily Telegraph) If your car has developed a fault, turn to Honest John by emailing honestadvice@telegraph.co.uk
BINDING CONTRACT Q: A year ago my brilliant Fiat Panda 4x4’s brakes started making a very loud noise, but only when reversing. The system was overhauled and this seemed to solve the problem, but it has started again. It stopped doing it when I took the car to the dealer, then resumed on the way home… PH A: I’ve heard of this before on the previous Panda 4x4. This was eventually diagnosed as binding rear brakes and the calipers were replaced under warranty.
ARTS COUNSEL Q: I want to replace my Audi A3 1.9 diesel with a petrol or eco model. I no longer need to drive long journeys, but would like a car with a reasonably sized boot. I am an exhibiting artist and need to store and transport paintings. What would you suggest? RH A: What might work quite well is an appropriately named Citroën C3 Picasso with the 1.2 Puretech 110 engine. It’s physically quite small but tall and very spacious and returns 50mpg.
THE SHINING Q: The airbag warning light of my 2009 Fiat Doblo came on but the next day all was well. Should I be worried about this and is it an MoT failure if it persists? LO A: It’s probably the connector to the occupant sensor in the passenger seat, or a pinched cable. Yes, it would be an MoT failure. If you can’t fix it yourself, try airbagman.co.uk
STAMP COLLECTOR Q: I bought a 2004 Mazda MX-5 in immaculate condition, with 27,000 miles. I have all the MoTs and a fully stamped service book, but should I replace the cambelt? BF A: For 2005 Mazda switched to chain cams. Prior to that, if the timing belt snaps or comes off, valves don’t hit pistons as long as the engine is below 4,000rpm. I’d get the belt, tensioner and water pump changed. It should cost about £400.
PARTNER IN CRIME Q: The turbo of our 2011 Peugeot Partner failed at 74,000 miles. A Peugeot specialist (nonfranchised) replaced it. That failed after 2,000 miles in five months and was replaced under guarantee. Four weeks later it has failed again. The turbo supplier says he will not replace it under warranty again. DE A: It’s likely the garage replaced only the turbo, not the oil feed and return pipes to the turbo bearing. These are prone to clogging with carbon, which restricts oil supply to the bearing, and should be replaced at the same time. The garage is responsible.
SOFT TOUCH Q: I am thinking of buying a used Renault Captur diesel. How comfortable is it over long distances? DC A: I haven’t driven one a long way, but one reader did 100,000 miles in hers before swapping it for another. I would look at the new option of the 1.2 TCe 120 petrol manual.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR MINORS HOME BUT NO HOMECOMING: Firstly like everyone else in the county we send our congrartulations to Peter Keane, his management team, backroom staff and the stars of the show – the players on their historic win. What’s rare is all the more special and a 3 in a row for Kerry is an amazing achievement and has not been done since the 30’s. And with a number of players on underage again next year plus a squad coming behind them that is reckoned to be every bit as good, and in some eyes, even stronger then the 4 in a row certainly a possibility. It must also be acknowledged the these successes have come thanks to alot of work done by the developments squads under the likes of Donal Daly and Sean O’Sullivan. And of course it all starts with the club and the coaches there while having successes in the schools competitions all leads up to having a squad of skillful players that we saw in Croke Park on Sunday. Galway did put it up to them but the Kerry always had the ability to get scores easier and the goals were the difference between the sides. And David Cliffords goal will live long in the memory. So all was good on Sunday evening with the Tom Markham Cup safely tucked up and ready for his trip back to Kerry once again. Tom come home to storm! But i bet Tom was not expecting such a contraversial homecoming! It all started with question in the media and on social media on Monday about the homecoming and it was slow to emerge thar none was planned. The County Board must take the blame here for a communication failure. As an aside they have also been heavily criticised for not having bunting or flags at Austin Stacks Park which is the headquarters of the GAA in Kerry and this has to go down as a poor showing. Back to the homecoming and it then emerged that the plan is to introduce the players at the County Championship games on October 2nd. Which is great if you are going to the game but hardly gives the opportunity to families and the wider general public to fate the boys. And it has also emerged that some of the players could be required by their clubs on that date which would be a shame if the whole extended panel were not together on what is the ‘official homecoming’. The County Board is a very media savvy operation and is very good at getting the maximiun air time and print space for their games and that is their right. But the can get tetchy is they receieve any bit of negative comment. And they certainly got lots of that this week with a firestorm on social media. A statement on Sunday evening / Monday morning saying that there would not be an offical homecoming and the reason why would have cleared things up.

TRALEE ADVERTISER
The fact that there have been no reason given leads to speculation. Of course we must say that the players got a huge reception in Kenmare, the home of the captain, on Monday night and probably have had other nights out since then. But the lack of an official home coming and the depth of the anger of GAA supporters around county will certainly have rattled the powers that be. So what is the solution going forward? It is very important at this stage to point out that Kerry have had a very successful year. We have All Ireland titles won by the u16 girls, the Minor Hurlers and the Juniors and none had an offical homecoming. I suggest that the County Board should bring in a protocol for All Ireland wins as very few years go by without them. For all wins, apart from Senior All Ireland wins, there is a homecoming in Austin Stacks Park on the Mondaty night after the game. It would not take much to set up a reception area and it would be a safe environment for all ages. If they did not want to do this then it should be at the captains ground / town. If this became the norm it would give people the chance to make plans in advance. And it would give the public the chance to turn out and welcome the victor’s home. That really was all that everyone wanted to do last Monday! SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the final of the Steve Kennedy Memorial A5 525 yards plus the semi-finals of the Castleisland Tyre Centre A5 525 yards. There will be no racing at the track on Saturday night but the normal Trial Session on Saturday morning will take place. The track is taking entries for the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Supporters Club A3 confined 525 yards which starts on October 7th for 48 runners with a winner’s prize of e6000 if the stake fills. Owners must be members of the supporters club and dogs must have run at least twice at Tralee over any distance. The track is also taking entries for the Kelliher’s Garage Tralee A1 Current 525 yards which begins on Friday October 14th. IRISH TV TRALEE WARRIORS BRINGING HOOP DREAMS BACK TO TRALEE: For those of us of a certain vintage we can remember the great nights in the Tralee Sports Complex when Tralee Tigers welcomed the best basketball clubs in the country to town. The visit of St Paul’s Killarney was always an eagerly anticipated one and I reminisced about this with Terry O’Brien who was involved then and is now the Chairman of the new Warriors Club. “Myself and my late brother Donal and others were involved then and they were great times.
Friday 23rd September 2016
And we are still very proud of the successes and from the mid to late 2000’s Tralee was one of the top clubs in the country. But now it’s time to look forward and we will be hoping that we get lots of support from Killarney rather than being in opposition to them!! “We have put together a very good squad in the Warriors. This has been possible with the cooperation of both Tralee clubs St Brendan’s and Tralee Imperials. We are also delighted to have Mark Bernsen back in the hot seat. And we have great sponsors on board with Irish TV leading the way alongside Garvey’s and the Sea Lodge in Waterville. It will be great see the Complex rocking to the sounds of top class basketball on Saturday nights.” Also present at the launch, held in the Wetlands was IRISH TV Commissioning Editor Brian Hurley. He said that the collaboration between the company and the Warriors was a perfect fit. “Irish TV was born out of the idea of supporting local. I am from Tralee and it gives me great pleasure to have secured the sponsorship deal with the new team, especially as Irish TV has its Munster base in the town. We know that the Warriors will be competitive and we plan to document their journey over the season and this will be broadcast on all our national and international platforms in 2017”. Kieran Donaghy is as well known from his prowess on the basketball court as he is on the GAA field. He is looking forward to the new season. “It’s been a wish of mine for a long time to have Super League basketball back in Tralee. We had a great win with St Brendan’s in the National Intermediate Cup. Tralee has a long and proud history in basketball and this is the latest chapter.” The Squad and Management: Kieran Donaghy 6’5 Guard, Michael ODonnell 6’3 Point Guard , Darragh O’Hanlon 6’3 Guard John Dowling 6’5 Centre, Trae Pemberton 6’4 Point Guard , Rick Leonard 6’7 Forward/Centre, Ryan Leonard 6’3 Shooting Guard, Darren O’Sullivan 6’2 Guard, Stephen Hanafin 5’9 Point Guard, Fergal O’Sullivan 5’11 Shooting Guard, Paul McMahon 6’3 Power Forward, Garry Fernane 6’2 Shooting Guard, Dusan Bogdanovic 6’11 Centre, Gary Murphy 6’1 Point Guard, Goran Pantovic 6’10 Centre/Power Forward. Coach - Mark Bernsen, Assistant Coaches Rick Leonard and Rob Mulcahy, Manager Jimmy Diggins, Assistant Manager Thomas O’Hanlon. The Irish TV Warriors begin their 2016/2017 Super League campaign this Friday night, September 23rd when the travel to Cork to take on UCC Demons. Their big home debut will be the following Saturday night, October 1st when Belfast Star will be the first visitors to the town. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS: The training times for all the ages at St Brendan’s Basketball club have been announced and are available from all club coaches and committee members. The Academy, for 5 to 9 year olds, train on Tuesday from 5 to 6pm. The club will cater for teams, both boys and girls from u10’s to seniors. St Brendan’s are very much behind the new IRISH TV Tralee Warriors Superleague team and wish all the club members the best of luck for the coming season. Killarney’s Deerpark Pitch & Putt Club has been invited to host the National Inter County Finals in 2018. It is twenty three years since Tralee hosted this event in 1995 and thirty years since Kerry won the Anchor Cup in 1986, Kerry’s only time to have won. THE SOCCER CORNER: KERRY DISTRICT LEAGUE NEWS: The Kerry U17’s sadly went down to Salthill Devon in their final away game of the season. It was a game that they hoped to get something from but stunning first goal from 25 yards, albeit with the wind and two poor goals from a defensive point of view saw the home side take the win. Kerry are at home in their final League game of season on Sunday October 2nd when they face Limerick in Mounthawk Park. They will then know who they face in the first round of the Shield the following week. The all Tralee Munster Junior Cup clash went the way of Tralee Dynamos as they enjoyed a 2-1 win over neighbours the Park. Dynamos went ahead early with a 6th minute goal from Danny Roche. Josh O’Reilly saved a Park penalty to keep his side ahead. Donagh O’Brien equalised but Dynamos won it late on. Mitchels Avenue were beaten 2-0 by Killarney Celtic in the same competition. In Denny Premier B CSKA Tralee went down 2-1 to AC Athletic while Athletico Ardfert drew 0-0 with Ballyheigue Athletic in Denny 1A. In 1A Classic were 3-0 winners over Ballymac Celtic with Strand Road defeating Windmill United 4-3 in Division 1B. Tralee Bay FC and Mitchels Avenue B both were beaten in Denny Division 2. SCHOOLBOYS SECTION: The Kerry Schoolboys action returned last weekend and in the National Cup The Park won at u12’s and u14’s but Dynamos went down in their 14’s game in Limerick. Both Tralee sides went through in the 16’s. This weekend’s National Cup action is in the uneven ages. In the League The Park won in the u13 Premier and Division 3 and Tralee Dynamos in 14’s Division 1. Team of the Week: Well done to Shane McGrath (The Park) and Soni Rramni (Tralee Dynamos) who were named on this week’s Kerry Schoolboys Girls Team of the Week. THE GAA SQUARE: KERINS O’RAHILLY’S NEWS: The Seniors are training hard for the Championship quarter final. They face Dr Crokes on October 1st at 3pm. Mountcoal on this Saturday, the 24th at 5pm. Juvenile News: There are big numbers at the u6’s training on Saturday mornings from 11am. The u8’s and 10’s boys train as normal this week while the girls had a great outing to Passage West last weekend ending with 3 wins and a draw. The u12’s final Central Region game did not go ahead last Sunday giving the boys the win in the Competition so well done to all concerned. The u13’s really enjoyed taking part in the Lee Strand Blitz and all involved gave it their all. The u14’s defeated John Mitchels in the opening round of the Town League while the u16’s started their campaign with an away defeat to Ballymac. CAUSEWAY CAMOGIE NEWS: Congratulations to the Causeway U12 girls who won the U12 blitz played in Causeway on Sunday morning. A delighted captain Sarah Kearney accepted the trophy on behalf of her team mates. The U12 County League A Final between Causeway & Cillard will take place on Monday the 26th of September. CAMOGIE NEWS: The Kerry County Camogie League Finals take place in Caherslee this Saturday, September 24th. In the u12 B final Parnells face Killarney at 10am, Causeway take on Cillard in the u12 A final at 10.50am while Parnells face Killarney in the u14’s as well. Cillard News: Well done to Cillard u14’s on being crowned Limerick County Champions last weekend as they defeated Killeedy 1.02 to 0.04. Hard luck to the u16’s who lost out to Kilmallock by just one point. Church-gate Collection: The Kerry Camogie Board are holding their church-gate collection at masses in Ardfert/ Kilmoyley on the weekend of October 1st and 2nd and all support will be greatly appreciated. The Camogie Board sends it congratulations to the Kerry Minor All Ireland Football winners. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 6.7.16 and 27 and the next jackpot will be e2500. The club thanks Blennerville National School for allowing the youngsters to train in the sports hall last Sunday and well done to Ruby Foley for being named player of the week. The club was delighted with the turn out for the academy despite the bad morning. There is no Academy this weekend due to the St Pat’s Family Fun Day. St Pat’s are into the St Brendan’s Senior Championship after getting a walkover in the semi-final. They await the winners of the Ardfert v Na Gaeil semi-final. The Ladies are training under new management
and Denis Healy will welcome new members. The Family Fun Day and Memorial Walk which was postponed a few weeks ago takes place this Sunday, September 25th weather permitting. Action will be in the club grounds and environs and all are welcome to attend. All proceeds on the day go to the Palliative Care Unit / Kerry Hospice. PARNELLS NEWS: Well done to all the parents who completed 1 of the 4 ‘Hurl With Me Initiatives’. All parents were given a hurley and sliotar and introduced to the basics by Kerry Camogie players Olivia Dineen and Kerry hurler Colum Harty. The u14’s were in Dublin to take part in the Cooper All Ireland U14 Championship last Saturday on All Ireland Camogie Weekend. The Kerry girls beat Meath, Cavan ,Westmeath and Down but ran out of steam a little in semi-final against Tyrone but it was a great effort by the girls. The u6’s and u8’s had a great night in Caherslee taking on visitors Ballyheigue and Abbeydorney. The u10’s hosted the very successful North Kerry U10 Blitz last week. The u12’s defeated Rathmore, Abbeydorney and Dr Crokes in three County League Division 2 back games and are looking forward to this Saturday mornings County League Final. THE MIRACLE PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked for many favours, this time I ask you this special one (mention favour). Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Father sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer.
