Tooth conservation guides our treatment philosophy and our computer aided design scanners also allow us to repair badly broken down teeth using beautiful ceramic materials that replace what is lost, like the missing piece of a jigsaw, rather than drilling the whole tooth down as one would for a crown.
Treatment time is now faster than ever, with advances in Invisalign technology. FREE CONSULTATION See how your teeth will look after Invisalign during your consultation.
DENTAL BONDING
Are you unhappy with spaces between your teeth? Many people have unsightly dark spaces between otherwise healthy teeth but don’t know how to improve their appearance. We don’t believe in harming good teeth by drilling them down for crowns and veneers and all treatment provided is guided by our policy of minimal invasion. The Bioclear matrix technique allows us to painlessly and seamlessly blend tooth coloured material into your teeth to close unsightly gaps and restore an even, healthy smile WITHOUT removing any healthy tooth structure. This unique technique will not cause food traps or cleaning problems afterwards. The system is durable, reliable and delivers beautiful results for a fraction of the cost of crowns and veneers. Remember, once healthy tooth is drilled away, it can never be replaced so always consider the least invasive option for your smile makeover to ensure that you retain beautiful, healthy teeth for life.

TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)
Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology My Internet is not working! What can I do?
Billy says: If you’re with Eir or Vodafone, make sure the DSL light is steady. If its flashing ,the turn off the modem for five minutes. Try to log into the modem by opening your web browser and on top where you see the web address put in "192.168.1.254" for eir or "192.168.1.1" for Vodafone. What this will tell you is that you are communicating with the modem. Also, make sure the internet light on your modem is green not red and if you have checked those steps and you still have no internet call your broadband provider.
I have a Sky Q Box. Can I put Free to Air on the same dish?
Billy says: No.... When Sky install the Sky Q box they will be changing the LNB on your dish for it to work with your new sky Q Box. In the UK you can ask for a Sky Q Hybrid 6 way LNB which will enable you to keep your Free to Air but they are not available from Sky Ireland at the moment. But I have seen them available on eBay.
I am thinking of getting Eir TV. How much bandwidth does it use? Billy says: As far as I know it will use 15MB of your broadband speed . I would always advise that you have over 40Mb of broadband before you get Eir TV .

SANDRA FROM PREMIER WORLD TRAVEL , IVY TERRACE , TRALEE ANSWERS YOUR TRAVEL QUERIES QUESTION "We want to move away from the traditional family holiday in the sun ! We were thinking of the USA .... Where would you recommend thats suitable over there?" SANDRA FROM PREMIER SAYS: We would highly recommend Orlando, it is so popular this year as there are fantastic deals on airfares and accomodation. Its the theme park capital of the world, plenty to do for families, it offers so much the only problem is deciding how much you can try to fit in! Accommodation is great value around the International Drive area and will suit all budgets. For larger families, there are holiday homes available to book, which includes the use of your own private pool. Car hire is recommended as the amazing beaches are only a 40 minute drive. We recommend that you pre purchase your theme park tickets in advance as we can offer you major savings by doing so - it also means you don't need to queue when you are there to pick up the tickets. Some of the properties also offer free shuttle transfers to and from the theme park. Families looking to cool off will be happy to know Orlando is home to the world's top water parks including Wet 'n Wild, Aquatica, SeaWorld's Waterpark to name a few!

Fitness Tips from the Brandon Gym Craig and the team answer your queries
Aaron - Nutrition
As a fitness Professional, one of the most common questions clients as me is: What’s the Best Diet? The Truth is: There isn’t one. There is no best diet because everybody is different. From their: • Body type • Age • Gender • Body composition • Activity Level • What Kind of Foods Agree with them The truth is diets are not maintainable for long periods of time and often don’t fit in with a person’s lifestyle, what you can do is start making small changes to your daily habits where you are making conscious decisions on what you put in your body and how you live your life day by day. To sum it up it’s a lifestyle not a diet.
Meet our newest addition ... "Blaithin" - Training
How do I add size and muscle to the glutes and legs? A lot of females ask this question in regards to training methods and also diet. From a dietary aspect the biggest mistake people make is eating in a calorie deficit. This put simply means you are burning more calories than you consume. In order to put on muscle especially the glutes (as it’s such a large muscle) you need to eat in a calorie surplus for a period. In order to get that toned figure you are looking for you first must build the muscle! In terms of training the most common mistake is people not training the glutes with heavy weight. Don’t be afraid to incorporate heavy hip thrusters, squats, lunges into your workout. The glutes are stronger than you might perceive. Glute kick backs and glute bridges with little to no weight should be used as accessory work to your glute training but not make up the whole work out. In summary don’t be afraid to lift heavy and make sure you are fuelling your muscle growth and repair with plenty of good food!

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... LEARN A 2ND LANGUAGE SAYS ASTRONAUT CHRIS HADFIELD Alison Boardman from Greenview Langauge centre says “As part of a New Year’s Resolution to do some interesting things this year, I went to hear an inspiring speaker Chris Hadfield, a pioneering Canadian astronaut speak about his adventures last weekend! Wow was I inspired! Cmdr Hadfield, who became a global celebrity through his Twitter feed while aboard the International Space Station in 2013 spoke of his dream of becoming an astronaut, and since 1992, he has been an integral part of both the Canadian and American space programs. In December 2012, he embarked on a five-month stay in space, where his Twitter posts about life aboard the International Space Station made him a celebrity. Not only did he tell us of his achievements in a most humble way, he also played the wonderful ‘Ground Control
to Major Tom’ on the guitar and told us of his learning French and Russian and how important learning a language is! I was delighted to hear him say ‘Do it, just because you can and you don’t know when you will use it! Learn 50 words in a different language within the next week!’ Learning a new language takes time and dedication. Once you do, being fluent in a second language offers numerous benefits and opportunities. In today’s world, there is over 7000 languages and learning at least one will help you in life massively. Whatever your age, being bilingual certainly has its advantages, especially in today’s global society. Here are the top benefits of learning a second language: Gives you better job prospects! Programme. BEST OF BEAUTY 2016 Hello beautiful people! I hope you’re all having a fabulous week. As you probably saw, last week I did my ‘Best of Beauty 2016’, but I couldn’t fit all my favourites into one page so this week… since it’s still January… I’m continuing on my absolute favourite products of 2016!
URBAN DECAY NAKED SKIN CONCEALER
ARDELL WISPIE LASHES
A late favourite of 2016, but a favourite nonetheless. Although this concealer is full coverage, it doesn’t cake or feel heavy on the skin. It blends like a dream and doesn’t crease. As well as all of this amazingness, the concealer contains Japenese Green Tea which helps improve the skin’s youthful appearance and elasticity. Win win!
2016 was the year I really got into false lashes and these were my ride or die go to lashes. The amount of times I was asked did I have eyelash extensions or had my lashes complimented when I wore these was insane. They are almost impossible to find though, they are sold in Pennys but they basically sell out in a day. You can re-wear these lashes at least 7 times if you mind them and they only cost a 5er, BARGAIN. If you can find them, BUY THEM.
GIORGIO ARMANI LUMINOUS SILK FOUNDATION This foundation
is STUNNING. It’s so lightweight and has a medium buildable coverage. As well as this it’s also Oil-Free so for all my acne prone gals out there, this one is for you! It keeps my skin hydrated and glowy all day without looking oily. I would use this more as a daytime foundation as I am a full coverage queen at night time. Though I have mixed this in with more full coverage foundations at night and have had amazing results.
INGLOT 6SS BRUSH
I’m late to the bandwagon on this, I KNOW. But ohhhhh myyyyy goddddd! This eyeshadow brush is the most perfect blending brush there is. Say goodbye to harsh lines and horrendous unblended eyeshadow. If you’re on the lookout for a new eyeshadow brush, you need to give this a try.
That’s it for this week! I hope you found this little list of tips helpful! If anyone wants to get in contact with me email me at ‘BexblahBeauty@gmail.com’ or message my Facebook page ‘Bexblah Beauty.

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK. THIS WEEK I’M GOING TO TALK ABOUT ALL THE LITTLE THINGS I EITHER EAT OR DO TO KEEP ME ON TRACK! FROZEN SPINACH IN SHAKE I’m just going to say it, I’m not the biggest fan of vegetables. I simply don’t really enjoy the taste and wouldn’t really add them to my meals. So, my previous trainer, Rob Lipsett told me to add frozen spinach into my post workout protein shake to get essential vitamins and minerals in. I just blend it up in my Nutri Ninja and the spinach just acts like ice really. You can’t taste it at all. Spinach is high in Niacin, zinc, protein, fibre, vitamins A,C,E,K & B6 and lots more… basically it’s loaded with good things for all parts of the body. CENTRUM FOR WOMEN I do get a lot of nutrients from the food I eat daily but I ALWAYS take a multivitamin every morning. I take Centrum for Women which has everything I need. It helps support the immune system, maintain bone health, and healthy skin and metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins. PROTEIN IN OATS/SHAKE
Again, I do get the majority of Protein from food sources, but I find it easier to meet my daily protein goals with the help of a protein supplement. The one I use and recommend is MyProtein Impact Whey Protein. It is unreal value for money at less than €20 for a kg and it’s also Labdoor approved(which basically means that it has been tested in Labdoor, which is a US based lab that buys all different brands
18
TRALEE ADVERTISER
of proteins and then tests and analyses them). My favourite flavours are, Vanilla, Chocolate Brownie, Salted Caramel and White Chocolate. I actually have a discount code for MYPROTEIN.IE it’s REBECCA-R5OS to get 25% off if you’re a new customer! I put a scoop of protein into 200ml almond milk after my workout and also if I’m having porridge to add flavour I add about
15g to that. Protein isn’t going to have a magic effect, it’s just a macronutrient. Most people, especially if they’re active, don’t get enough protein so this is where the Protein Powder comes in. It also tastes unreal and I find it helps with sweet cravings.
FOLLOW A PLAN Before I go to the gym, I have to know what I’m going to do there. Upper body? Lower body? Hiit training? I just have to have a plan so that I can stay focused and get it done. No point going for machine to machine aimlessly. BRING LUNCH TO WORK Since I work in Dundrum this is a big one for me. If I bring my lunch in I know what I’m having and I stay on track. Yes there are healthy options available in Dundrum such as Chopped or Zizzis but there’s also other options which can be very tempting. So bringing my lunch in is just the easier option. STAY HYDRATED I cannot emphasise this enough. Water is magic! When you’re hydrated you can concentrate better, preform better and have more energy. Water also cleanses toxins from your body, keeps your skin supple and combats fatigue. You should at LEAST be having 2 litres a day. AT LEAST.
USE MY FITNESS PAL Once you know how many calories your body needs including Protein, Carbs and Fats – I got those numbers from my trainers at Recalibrated Bodies, you can input them into MyFitnessPal. I find it great to stay on track and ensure I hit my numbers.

Mussels have three things going for them: They’re cheap, quick to cook, and delicious
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • •
In a deep pan, heat the oil. Add the ham and cook over moderate heat, tossing, until hot; using tongs, transfer to a plate. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the pan Add the shallots and cook over moderate heat until softened, 4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant. Add the wine and boil until reduced by half, 2 minutes. Add the crab and thyme and toss until hot. Meanwhile, cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente. Drain, reserving 2/3 cup of the cooking water. Add the ham, pasta, reserved cooking water and remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the pan; toss. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish the pasta with the parsley and serve in bowls.
Steamed Mussels with Tomato-and-Garlic Broth
1/4 cup olive oil 1 onion, chopped fine 6 cloves garlic, minced 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley 2 cups drained canned tomatoes in thick puree, chopped 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme 1/4 teaspoon dried red-pepper flakes 4 pounds mussels, scrubbed and debearded 1/8 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper Salt, if needed Garlic Toast (optional)

3.
In a large pot, heat the oil over moderately low heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the parsley, tomatoes, thyme, and red-pepper flakes. Reduce the heat and simmer, partially covered, for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Discard any mussels that have broken shells or that don’t clamp shut when tapped. Add the mussels to the pot. Cover; bring to a boil. Cook, shaking the pot occasionally, just until the mussels open, about 3 minutes. Remove the open mussels. Continue to boil, uncovering the pot as necessary to remove the mussels as soon as their shells open. Discard any that do not open. Stir the black pepper into the broth. Taste the broth and, if needed, add salt. Ladle the broth over the mussels and serve with the garlic toast Recipes by

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! AN IRISHMAN APPLIES FOR A JOB AT HIS LOCAL STABLES After being shown around the yard the Irishman was asked if he has ever shoed a horse before, After a long pause... He replies “I’ve haven’t, but I once told a donkey to buzz off”
A MAN WALKS INTO A PET STORE AND ASKS FOR A POLAR BEAR
surprisingly the store has one for sale. But the assistant warns the man: “Do never, under any circumstances, tickle the bear behind the ears.” Of course, the man buys the bear and cheerfully takes it home. After a while he can’t help the urge any more and tickles the bear behind the ears. With a wild roar the polar bear lunges at the man, who runs away in great fear. The bear chases him through the whole house, down the stairs, into the kitchen and around the table, where he finally catches up to the man, pats him on the back and says: “Tag, you’re it!”
THE UKRAINIAN FARMER AND HIS SON
A Ukrainian farmer had a son who wanted to go to university “Son, you not want to go university; stay here and work with me on farm” “No father. I go to university to learn many things” So the son goes. Months later, the son comes home for break. The father says, “So my son, you go to university. What you learn?” And the son says “I learn ‘Pi r squared’” “You dumb son of a bitch! See what good university does for you! Pies are round! Cakes are square!”
night, centered on the topic of who has better friends. They each offer a wide variety of anecdotes and stories, but in the end, they decide to put it to the test. “Here’s what we’ll do,” the wife suggests. “I’ll call your friends, and you call mine. We’ll both pretend that the other person hasn’t come home yet, and that we’re worried. Whoever’s friends give the best advice about where to find us clearly know us better, and therefore are better.” The husband agrees to the game, and they both head off into separate rooms. When they reconvene a half an hour later, the husband looks defeated. “Okay, honey,” he says, “I think it’s pretty clear that you have better friends. Every one of them listed each of your favorite restaurants, salons, shops, and art galleries, and they had phone numbers for each of them. They knew your work hours by heart, your office extension, your boss’s name, and even the route that you take home.” The wife shakes her head. “No, dear,” she replies, “you have better friends.” “Why do you say that?” asks the husband. “Well,” the wife replies, “most of them said that you’d been at their place, and three of them said that you were still there.”

This event has really captured the imagination of all students the last few years as TY waitresses take orders from customers who have to select from the delicious treats on the menus of the French and German cafés – ranging from “Chocolate chaud” to crépes and lots of other baked goods. A full range of other activities was provided for all year groups in the school in both German and French ranging from Bingo, quizzes, Poster competitions to Treasure hunts! All these activities encouraged the students to speak their chosen languages in a practical context.”
NA GAEIL, KERRY’S YOUNGEST GAELIC FOOTBALL CLUB Na Gaeil, Kerry’s youngest Gaelic Football Club ,is going from strength to strength having won Div 2 County League titles in both U14 and Minor boys in 2016 amongst other competitions. Our Senior Men’s team were Division 4 Champions and contested the County Junior Final and our Senior Ladies contested the Senior B championship final. Our Ladies won Kerry Ladies Club of the year to add to their long list of achievements! We had three Boys involved in the All Ireland Minor winning Team namely Diarmuid O’ Connor, Stefan Okumbar and Ryan O Neill and Jayden Lucey was a member of the U16 ladies All Ireland winning team. Andrew Barry is currently involved in the Kerry U21 team and Jack Barry with the Kerry Senior team. The club also provided numerous players to various County Development Squads and indeed County Teams, both boys and girls These successes have been achieved because of a tremendous amount of hard work put in by innumerable volunteers in Na Gaeil CLG. This year we will be providing a foundation and level one coaching courses along with others to add to the cohort of already qualified coaches in the club. All Na Gaeil teams are coached by qualified and experienced, Garda 28

Well established in the calendar of events for cyclists the length and breadth of the country, bring the cycling season to a close with either one of these truly rewarding cycles August 26th. A twist on the traditional Ring of Kerry, The Wong Way Round has a few surprises up its sleeve or challenge yourself on the scenic Hard Way Round that circles the dramatic Skellig Ring, taking in some of the most spectacular vistas in the World according to Lonely Planet! At 180 km long the route diverges from the Wrong Way Round by taking a right for Ballaghbeama through the heart of Kerry to Ballaghoisin.
On the 180 km route you’ll pass the stunning St Finian’s Bay with views of Skellig Micheal to aid you on the tough climb up Coomanaspic with breathtaking views of the Skellig Ring before the descent to the picturesque fishing village of Portmagee. For anyone who has been to County Kerry; they won’t need to be told how beautiful this part of the Ireland is. This year will be the fourth running of the event and last year saw over 500 riders turn out. The dramatic coastal scenery, great marshalling, superb food are just some of the reason why Killarney Cycling Festival is growing in popularity. TORQUING CARS! SPEED BUMPS ARE COSTING IRISH MOTORISTS ‘THOUSANDS’ IN REPAIRS EVERY YEAR
Speed bumps’ are costing drivers hundreds of extra euro in maintenance costs, it is claimed. But is it the ramps or the drivers who are really at fault? The media in general has been inundated with complaints in recent months from drivers who claim their vehicles have been damaged by speed bumps and ramps. To get an idea of how widespread such damage can be, a number of garages. were contacted Several said that repairs to suspension systems constitute a high proportion of their work now. One independent owner in the Dublin area estimated that up to 80pc of repairs carried out at his workshop, on robust modern vehicles, required work to damaged suspensions. Work includes repair or replacement of coils, springs and bushes. Some were told there has been an “explosion” in demand for such repairs. A lot of people have complained about the cost of damage to the underside of their car. One frustrated driver said recent expensive repairs were directly as a result of colliding with speed bumps, many of which, he claimed, are “too severe and of flawed design”. His repair bill came to just under €600 - to replace two coils and shock absorbers after traversing a bump at relatively slow speed. The damage was compounded by an adjacent gaping pothole. “There are far too many speed ramps in suburban areas, particularly in housing estates. Many are poorly sited and many are too sharp and poorly marked. Many are of shoddy construction and can cause a serious road hazard,” he complained. Several people believed ramps are not properly maintained and are causing damage to wheel rims and tyres as well. The manager of a Dublin-based outlet of a leading national motor parts distributor described ramps as “a bloody nuisance”. Apart from suspension damage, the impact on cars can include the misalignment of headlights and their mountings. He said the combined cost of repairs can begin from “the €300 mark”. Anecdotal evidence suggests that even if a motorist’s claim for damages against a local authority in such circumstances is upheld, it can be years before compensation is paid out.(independent.ie)
WATCH OUT MOTORISTS! NEW HIGH-TECH SPEED CAMERA LAUNCHED AND IT’S SET TO CATCH MANY MORE SPEEDERS
Until now some motorists have evaded detection because mobile speed vans’ cameras could not pick out registration plates in the dark.Speeding motorists will have less ability to hide under new technology allowing road safety camera to work better at night. Infra-red lights which help roadside speed cameras work in the dark will help efforts on poorly or unlit roads, according to the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership.Until now, a number of motorists have evaded detection because the partnership’s mobile speed vans’ cameras could not pick out registration plates in the dark. The new infra-red equipment, which consists of three small banks of 24 bulbs mounted on the rear of the vehicles, first went on the road in the uk this week.”The existing technology did not work particularly well in unlit streets and there is a proportion of footage the camera guys get which they can’t do anything with because it is too dark. “These infra-red lights do not glare or blind drivers - but for the camera teams working in poorly or unlit roads it’s like daylight.
1939 MERCEDES-BENZ, HIDDEN FROM THE NAZIS AND SMUGGLED OUT OF SOVIET RUSSIA, SELLS FOR £5.4M Aclassic Mercedes-Benz built as Europe teetered on the edge of war has been auctioned in Arizona for $6.6m, roughly £5.4m.
The one-off 540 K Special Roadster has been accurately restored and was the highlight of a sale in Phoenix, which also included a low-mileage 2003 Ferrari Enzo, a 2013 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, and a 2008 Lamborghini Reventón. The Mercedes is believed to have been hidden from the Nazis and smuggled out of the Soviet Union. It may even be the last example of this model made before the outbreak of the Second World War.At 17.5ft long and with a 5.4-litre engine, it’s very much a product of its time, but a restoration in 2012 means it doesn’t show its considerable age.“Our Arizona sale is consistently a bellwether for the collector car market, setting the pace for the auction season to come,” says Ian Kelleher, Managing Director of RM Sotheby’s West Coast Division. “This year’s top ten sales clearly indicate that demand for modern supercars remains strong, while exceptional pre-war classics—such as the 540 K—anchor the strength and resilience of the market.

TWO MILLION BRITS COULD BE IN LINE FOR A PAY-OUT FROM VOLKSWAGEN AS HIGH COURT BATTLE LOOMS A class action being brought against the German giant could cost the company upwards of £6bn in compensation, lawyers revealed More than two millions Brits could be in line for a pay-out from car markers Volkswagen, more than double the initial estimate, as a High Court battle over the emissions scandal looms. A class action being brought against the German giant could cost the company upwards of £6bn in compensation, lawyers revealed. Around 1.2m VWs, Seats, Audis and Skodas in Britain are said to be fitted with a ‘cheat device’ that masked the levels of emissions, allowing them to pass strict roadworthy tests. The legal action, which already has 20,000 motorists signed up ahead of Monday’s first court showdown, is open to anyone who has, or had, an affected car, with some dating back to 2009. With the average Brit now changing their car every five to six years, the legal team taking on the world’s biggest motoring manufacturer believe there could be more wronged drivers than initially anticipated. Each is looking at a potential pay-out of around £3,000, or maybe even more, if the case is successful. More than 100,000 people have registered an interest in joining the action. VW has vowed to defend itself . A spokeswoman for the legal team said: “In Germany one Skoda owner won the entire value of his car back after taking VW to court. That was one guy against the biggest car manufacturer in the world. “Along with a decision in Spain to award an Audi customer 5,000 euros compensation, we believe things are looking really positive. “VW sold people a car they said was X but was actually Y. If you have bought one of these cars at any point, even if you have since sold it, you can take a stand with this case.”

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR BAD BREAK WELL TREATED: Those attending the Killarney Celtic v Ringmahon game last Sunday witnessed something they never wanted to – a player breaking his leg. Aaron Ahenre was the unfortunate player to suffer the break in an accidental clash as part of a 50/50 tackle. Thankfully Killarney Celtic were well equipped to deal with this having trained personnel who treated the player and did all they could to keep him comfortable until the ambulance came. It was hard to hear the player’s screaming in pain but the knowledge that all possible was being done helped. The ambulance crew were as excellent as expected when they came and having contacted Ringmahon on Monday they were pleased to be able to say that the player’s surgery went very well and he was released earlier this week. The break came at a bad time for Aaron, not that there is ever a good time, but he was due to sign for a League of Ireland side this week – hopefully this will still happen for the players as he is expected to made a full recovery. However this made me think about other games and grounds which might not be as well prepared. All clubs should now review their procedures and how well they are prepared if something like this happens during a game at their pitch. As well as these all clubs should ensure that their defibrillator is charged and accessible to their trained personnel. The other issue is that all clubs should ensure that all their players are properly registered and insured. While all governing bodies make every effort to ensure this is the case we all know that some clubs are not as diligent as others. And the other scary thing that many of us have seen it teams playing a player under a different name in order to field a team or to get around a suspension. Either of the above scenarios would have serious consequences, especially from an insurance point of view, and it is at times like this that we understand why we pay insurance. Hopefully you will never have to witness such accidents but

as the saying goes Fail to Prepare / Prepare to Fail. TIME TO LOOK FOR MONEY: The 2017 Sports Capital Programme is now open so all clubs in Tralee should be applying for funding. Since 2014 230 clubs and Leagues around the country have received almost e12 million for numerous projects. Clubs can apply for natural grass pitches, pitch drainage, floodlighting, artificial pitches, tracks and courts etc. Applications are now open at sportscapitalprogramme.ie IN THE SQAURE: SUCCESS, DECISIONS AND DANCING – A WEEK IN KERRY FOOTBALL: It might only be mid-January but this has been as busy a week for Kerry GAA as if it was September. On the field the Kingdom won their first silverware of the new season, taking the McGrath Cup for the 5th time. It took a late Conor Geaney goal to settle matters in extra time as Kerry defeated Limerick 3-13 to 2-12. This was Kerry’s first win in the competition since 2013. The only down side was the injury suffered by James O’Donoghue. Hopefully is not as serious an ankle problem as first feared. Paul Murphy and Gavin Crowley also had to come off. This win will certainly have pleased the Kerry management ahead of their opening League game away to Donegal on February 5th. However Kerry did not have long to celebrate before the news switched to the retirement of Aidan O’Mahony. Tributes have been posted on line and in the media all week for the 5 time All Ireland winner. The Rathmore man played 70 championship games and 85 League appearances for the Kingdom. The best thing that can be said is that Aidan, now 37, gave 100% every time he pulled on the Green and Gold and this has certainly made him one of loved and admired Kerry players of his generation. We all wish him well in his retirement from the Inter County scene but he will still be a serious opponent at club level. And of course Aidan will be hoping every Kingdom supporter gets behind his Friday 27th January 2016
exploits on the dance floor. There was better news for the Kerry management with the announcement the Kieran Donaghy and Colm Cooper will stay on with Kerry for another crack at Sam. Donnchadh Walsh gave the good news at the launch of the 2017 Allianz Football League in Croke Park this week. HURLERS WERE HELD: The Kerry hurlers recent progress was certainly halted by Limerick who beat them 4-28 to 0-16 points. It was probably the wrong time for the Kingdom to meet Limerick as they had been beaten well by Cork in their previous game. The pity was that only a handful of Kerry supporters turned up early at the double header to support the hurlers. GREEN PLAYS ON GREEN: Anytime a new sporting venue comes on stream and in Tralee this week the CBS has seen its fundraising come to fruition with the opening of their All-Weather pitch. This is the final part of their major development that began in 2012 and the pitch will cater for a variety of sports including football, soccer, tag rugby, athletics and hurling with lighting for night time use. The pitch will also be available for hire which makes it a very important addition to sporting landscape of the town. Principal of the school Ms Anne O’Callaghan was proud of the efforts of a lot of people. “We would like to thank all the sponsors and everyone who donated generously to this fine pitch which is a huge addition to the school and to Tralee in general.” ST PAT’S STORIES: There was no winner of Lotto from the numbers drawn 1,7,14 and 27 with the next jackpot being e3500. The draw will be on Sunday night in Keane’s Bar. Juvenile Academy: It was another great week for the underage in the Academies with Paddy Flynn getting the player of the week trophy at the u6’s. The u8’s had their best attendance of the season with all the players showing great enthusiasm. Indeed some of the players could audition for Riverdance, so good is their footwork! George Keane was the Player of the Week. The u10’s were also training in the Pres Hall with another great turn-out. Ben Jones was named as the Player of the Week in a tough decision by the coaches. County League: Round 1 for our seniors will take place on Sunday, March 19th when they are away to Currow. The 26th will be the first
home game when Kilcummin come to St Pats. ST PAT’S LADIES: The St Pat’s Ladies had their first training session of 2017 this week under the coaching talents of Anne Eager. Anne was with the St Pats Ladies over 8 years ago. The team sees some experienced players making a comeback combining with some beginners. Many are local while some have come out from Tralee as some clubs sadly don’t have teams anymore. The team is still looking for more players and if anyone is interested please contact the Ladies Team Secretary Niamh Daly on 087 9592721. KERINS O’RAHILLY’S NEWS: The club’s 10km road race, commemorating the memory of former Chairman Pat Healy, takes place on Sunday January 29th. Entries costing e20 are still open on Primoevents and will also be taken in the Clubhouse the day before the event from 2 to 8pm. Peter Nolan is also still looking for stewards. Congratulations to David Moran and Barry John Keane who were part of Kerry’s McGrath Cup winning side. Well done to Giles O’Grady who has been appointed manager of the Kerry u17 Hurling team. Lotto: There was no winner of the jackpot of e5800 from the numbers drawn 4,13,25 and 29. This weekend’s Jackpot will be e5,900 and will take in Charlie’s Bar on Monday night. There will be a special raffle for those present at the draw. MIXED COLLEGE RESUTLS: There was mixed results in the Corn Ui Mhuiri for Tralee colleges this week. In the quarter finals CBS got the upper hand on IS Killorglin but Mounthawk went down by a similar margin to St Flannans of Ennis. CBS will take on Cork side Colaiste Chriost Ri on February 4th in Rathmore in the semi-finals. CAMOGIE NOTES: The Kerry Camogie County Board are holding a table quiz on this Friday night 27th January at 9pm sharp at An Tochar Bán, Kilmoyley . Tables of 4 €20. Everybody welcome all supported greatly appreciated. Update on Senior team: Our seniors are back training with a few weeks. They have been very busy in the gym with the help of Anthony Fealy. The management team of Pete Young, Stephen Goggin and Gary O Brien have all opted to continue for the coming year much to the delight of the girls.

The side were unlucky to go down to Rathmore in a thriller for 3rd place. The area was ably represented on the night by Kevin Barry, Luke Chester, Sean Collins, John Feely, Josh Hayes, Daire Keehan, and Brian Mc Elligott. Congrats to Josh and John who had participated in the schools cross country running earlier in the day. The squad was coached by Mary B Murphy and Niamh Collins. HOOP DREAMS: WARRIOR WIN IN THE ARENA: All the SuperLeague basketball sides were in action in the National Basketball Arena and the Garvey’s Tralee Warriors defeated Moycullen 90-75 to complete the double over the Galway side. Moycullen led early on but once the Tralee side took over they led at the end of each quarter. It was 22-17 after the first quarter and 51-39 at the break. Trae Pemberton was on fire and by the end of the game he hit 41 points including an impressive 8 three pointers. Warriors had the gap out to 26 at one stage which was reduced to 21 goin g into the last quarter. Moycullen did reduce it to 15 points but Warriors always had enough in hand. Mark Bernsen even had the luxury of sitting out four of his starting five for the final minutes of the game. Warriors won without Kieran Donaghy but Pemberton’s hot streak and big performances from Goran and Dusan saw them notch up another important win on the road. Their top scorers were Pemberton on 41, Bogdanovic on 26 and Pantovic netting 12. Garvey’s Tralee Warriors are on the road to Dublin this weekend as they face DCU Saints on Sunday in the DCU Complex at 3.30pm. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS: In the Men’s Division Cup St Brendan’s defeated neighbours Tralee Imperials 75-34. St Brendan’s opened up a 7 point lead in the first quarter and with the experience of SuperLeague players Fergal O’Sullivan and Kieran Donaghy they dominated the second quarter as well leading 3822. The whole squad contributed to send St Brendan’s into the Cup final with Fergal O’Sullivan hitting 14 and Cathal O’Sullivan 13 in the win. In the Men’s County League Division 1 St Paul’s just got the better of St Brendan’s 59-54 in a thriller. The Tralee side were ahead by 8 at the half time break

Cathal O’Sullivan top scored on 18 followed by Jamie Lowham on 13 and Daniel Molyneaux on 5. The 14 Division 2 Boys went down 50-35 to Gneeveguilla in their first home game of 2017. The Tralee boys were 14-10 up after the first quarter and again they led by 6 at the half 22-16. Gneeveguilla bounced back and they hit 10 in a row to lead for the first time 32-28 and held out during the 4th quarter for the win. The Division u12 Division 2 Plate side defeated St Bridgets 28-40 overturning a pre -Christmas win by the Currow side. It was 34 to 17 at the break to St Brendan’s and a 13 point haul by Kieran Arellano in the third quarter set them on the road to the win. In other results in the Lee Strand Boys 14 Division St Bridget’s defeated St Brendan’s 23-17 while in the u14 Division 3 it finished Caherciveen 25-20 St Brendan’s. Well done to all the u10 boys and girls who put on some great performances in Blitz in the Causeway Comprehensive. OVAL BALL: Well done to ex Tralee Rugby Club player Ultan Dillane on being selected for the first two squads of this season’s 6 Nations. PARK AWAY: We all wish St Brendan’s Park u12’s and u13’s all the best in the National Cup Last 32 this weekend.
