TRALEE GALA SHOPS WIN TOP AWARDS THREE Gala convenience stores from County Kerry have been awarded the ‘Gold Standard’ for excellence in retail at the 2016 Gala Annual Conference and B.E.S.T Awards, which took place last week at The Malton Hotel, Killarney.
The ‘Gold Standard’ is awarded following a comprehensive and independent assessment process under the Gala Business Excellence Standards Tool programme. The awards ceremony was MC’d by TV personality, Sile Seoige with special guests at the conference including Ireland soccer manager Martin O’Neill, who delivered a keynote address during the morning session. The local stores that received the gold awards at the Gala B.E.S.T Awards were Gala Mounthawk and Gala Oakpark, both of Tralee, and O’Shea’s Gala of Blennerville who also received the Community Initiative Award at the event. Speaking at the conference, Gala CEO, Gary Desmond, said: “We offer our congratulations to all of the Kerry stores. This is a wonderful example of local Gala stores providing fantastic service to their customers and all of these stores are amongst the B.E.S.T retailers in the Gala Group. We wish the stores another successful year and look forward to them retaining their gold standard at next year’s conference.’’ The Gala annual conference brings together all of the retailers in the Gala Group for an inspirational day of motivational speeches, a trade fair and an update on the Gala business and new initiatives. During the conference, Gala’s CEO delivered an update on the various marketing activities taking place within the Group including Gala’s continuing association with the forthcoming IFTA Gala TV Awards, its award-winning partnership with Special Olympics Ireland and sponsorship of parkrun Ireland. As one of the most progressive convenience groups in Ireland, Gala stores benefit from national expertise, coupled with local wholesaler support and a store model, which ensures that every Gala store is designed to deliver to its local community’s requirements. www.Gala.ie

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... SUPERVALU WINS OVER 100 AWARDS AT RECENT BLAS NA HEIREANN AWARDS CEREMONY
SuperValu, the leading Irish grocery retailer, won a record 103 Blas na hEireann awards in Dingle. SuperValu picked up 29 awards for its’ own brand range of products - winning 13 Gold, 9 Silver and 7 bronze while SuperValu’s Food Academy producers went home with 74 awards – 26 Gold, 30 Silver and 18 Bronze. Overall they won 39 Gold awards, 39 Silver awards and 25 bronze - the most ever achieved at Blas na hEireann since its inception. Six SuperValu Food Academy suppliers from Kerry took home awards from the prestigious Blas na hEireann awards ceremony 2016: one gold, four silver and one bronze. There was the sweet smell of success at Larkin’s Bakery in the Main Street – as they picked up a gold award and two of the silver awards! The third and fourth silver award was won by Bake it Easy and Harty’s while O’ Sullivan’s bakery won the bronze. This is the ninth year of the Blas na hEireann awards which are recognised as the biggest annual competition for quality Irish produce across the island of Ireland. Over 2,500 products were entered into the competition this year – with those nominated hoping to go home with Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards across 100 food and drink categories – not to mention other prestigious awards such as the Supreme Champion 2016 and Best Artisan Producer 2016 SuperValu’s Food Academy is SuperValu’s unique training programme, run along with Bord Bia and the Local Enterprise Board – the aim being to support, nurture and mentor start-up food businesses. Since it started, The Food Academy Programme has been a huge success, with more than 200 Food Academy producers now selling their products in SuperValu stores all across Ireland. Winning 74 Blas na hEireann awards yesterday is living proof of that success. Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, SuperValu said, “We are absolutely delighted to win so many awards this year – over a 100 in total; 29 for both our Own Brand range and the 74 awards by our Food Academy producers. These awards are the ultimate endorsement of our commitment to sourcing the very best quality, local produce for our customers”. He concluded: “We’re very proud that SuperValu and our superb suppliers and food producers won awards across all the food categories – which is quite simply down to the suppliers’ passion for quality fresh food and their unstinting commitment to delivering innovative products that give our customers both the quality and value they want. It’s great to see their hard work and commitment was recognised by Blas na hEireann this year by winning so many Gold, Bronze and Silver awards”.
MOYDERWELL PRIMARY SCHOOL AND TRALEE HARRIERS LAUNCH FIT4CLASS
Tralee Harriers has successfully run a club/school links project for a number of years with support from Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership and Kerry County Council. This year the club is promoting the Athletics Ireland’s Fit4Class programme in Tralee primary schools. Fit4Class is a new 10 week athletics programme that introduces primary school children from junior infants to fourth class to athletics in a fun, engaging and non-competitive environment. It focuses on the use of games to develop fitness whilst enhancing agility, coordination and balance. After completing the Fit4Class programme, students are rewarded with coloured wristbands. Tralee Harriers will work with Transition year students from Tralee schools to roll out the programme in the schools. Following an introductory workshop the Transition year students will assist the class teachers in running the programme over 10 weeks. Moyderwell Primary school is the first Tralee primary school to launch the programme. “This is a very exiting programme that further enhances the wonderful links that Tralee Harriers Athletic club has forged with both primary and secondary schools. I would encourage all primary schools to sign up for Fit4Class. Tralee Harriers are available to help roll out the programme in any school in the Tralee area. We have already trained 25 fantastic, enthusiastic Transition year students from Mercy Mounthawk, who are ready to go into the primary schools to help with Fit4Class” said Linda O Reilly, Tralee Harriers.

DENTAL BONDING
Are you unhappy with spaces between your teeth? Many people have unsightly dark spaces between otherwise healthy teeth but don’t know how to improve their appearance. We don’t believe in harming good teeth by drilling them down for crowns and veneers and all treatment provided is guided by our policy of minimal invasion. The Bioclear matrix technique allows us to painlessly and seamlessly blend tooth coloured material into your teeth to close unsightly gaps and restore an even, healthy smile WITHOUT removing any healthy tooth structure. This unique technique will not cause food traps or cleaning problems afterwards. The system is durable, reliable and delivers beautiful results for a fraction of the cost of crowns and veneers. Remember, once healthy tooth is drilled away, it can never be replaced so always consider the least invasive option for your smile makeover to ensure that you retain beautiful, healthy teeth for life.
Cerec - Digital dentistry Tooth conservation guides our treatment philosophy and our computer aided design scanners also allow us to repair badly broken down teeth using beautiful ceramic materials that replace what is lost, like the missing piece of a jigsaw, rather than drilling the whole tooth down as one would for a crown.

Root Canal
Where possible, extractions are avoided by carrying out contemporary root canal treatment and Dr. Susan van der Merwe uses the latest technology to deliver outstanding results… “I have a passion for Root Canals. I find it rather disturbing when so many patients opt for an extraction opposed to a root canal treatment. Many patients seem to be misinformed regarding this treatment. Either they feel they have to seek specialist treatment elsewhere (and at an exorbitant cost) or they are completely ‘in the dark’ regarding the treatment procedure. Root canals seem to have a bad reputation in terms of pain and success rates. However clinical trials are now demonstrating that success rates can be as high as 95-99% if modern contemporary methods are used. At Bridge Place Dental we have up skilled to ensure a high standard of treatment is offered to our patients.
Dr Susan Van Der Merwe
All root canals are done using loops (magnification eye wear), rotary file systems and heated filling systems. As per a recent audit within our practice, we are achieving success rates equal to those in scientific journals.
Just like ‘key hole’ surgery has made advances to surgery and subsequent recovery, we have approached root canals in a similar manner.”
AWARDED HIGHLY COMMENDED for Best 'High Technology Practice' in Ireland. Irish dentistry awards 2016

Almost everyone has someone in their life who loves makeup, it’s a given. But sometimes it can be hard to know what to get a Self Confessed Makeup Lover... I decided to compile a list of makeup I cannot live without as well as some items that are on my personal wishlist and turn it into a Gift Guide for all my fellow makeup junkies. Whether you love makeup yourself or you’re looking to buy a gift for someone who does, I’m sure this list will help out.
NYX Powder Highlight & Contour Palette €25
NYX Contour Palette on Boots.ie As far as I know, this palette is relatively new and I have yet to get my hands on it. But LOOK AT IT! The contour shades are the perfect ashy toned shades so that you don’t look muddy/caked/like an oompa loompa! And the highlight has that gorge banana shade which is perfect for setting an under eye highlight. It’s also only €25, which is insane value! Although I have not tried this yet, I have high hopes for it and have read great things online. And I haven’t tried a NYX product that has disappointed me yet.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade €18
Dipbrow Pomade on Beautybay.com The Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade is my ultimate brow product. I have been using it for over a year now and I refuse to use anything else. It most definitely is a staple in my makeup bag. You apply a small amount with an angled brush (Like the one below). Once you use this you won’t look back, I promise!
Blank Canvas Eyeshadow Brushes
Blank Canvas Cosmetics Website Personally, I can never have enough eyeshadow brushes. A good eyeshadow brush is key to good eyeshadow. I’m notorious for spending money on makeup and not enough on makeup tools, so I would really appreciate getting eyeshadow brushes as a gift. The Blank Canvas Cosmetics brushes are my favourite for many reasons. 1 - They’re so affordable, 2 - The quality is unreal & 3 - They have vegan brushes for all my animal lovers! I have selected a few of my must have eye brushes from Blank Canvas. You can also get the brushes in CH Chemist.

HELLO EVERYONE! HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK!
Fasted cardio is basically doing cardio first thing in the morning before you eat anything. It is good for people who want a lot of fat loss as it burns extra fat. I try to do fasted cardio once or twice a week just to change things up for my body. So the big question is, why does fasted cardio work? In simple terms, fasted cardio works because when you are exercising first thing in the morning the energy that is used during your cardio will come from the breaking down of fat that you already have. Since you
FITNESS!
have not eaten, this is your body’s only available energy source. When you eat before your cardio, your body’s first energy source will be the food that you have consumed. For this reason, fasted cardio is often used to lose those last few pounds that you just can’t get rid of. While expert opinions are still indecisive about whether or not fasted cardio is worth it or not, I really believe it is something that you have to try for yourself. Every body is different and each person’s body will react differently. So I challenge you to give it a try and you may just be surprised what fasted cardio can do for you.
SET A GOAL!
To achieve something, whatever it is in life, you must set a goal for yourself. With fitness it is always good to be working towards something. Being stronger, running faster, jumping higher, losing bodyfat whatever it may be! If you are going to the gym and you don’t have a goal you may find yourself slacking or not training as hard as you could be. because you’re not really training towards anything.
FIND A BUDDY!
Having a gym buddy can really help when it comes to fitness. You know those days when you’re just not motivated? If you have someone else who motivates you and makes going to the gym/working out that much more enjoyable you’re more likely to go and do it. Turn training into something social, get your work done in the gym and then do something fun afterwards like shopping, going for a post workout feed or relaxing and chilling out!
DO A CLASS!
Some people, no matter how hard they try, don’t push themselves in the gym enough on their own. This is where classes come in. You have the instructor pushing you and telling you exactly what to do, the class is a set amount of time, you go in do the class and you’re done! Boom. There are so many different classes on al of the time, from spinning to strength training to boot camps, all the options are there if you’re ‘not a gym person’.

The Chairman, Joe Leonard and Board of SIAMSA TÍRE, The National Folk Theatre of Ireland, are delighted to announce the appointment of Catriona Fallon to the position of CEO and Michelle Murphy as Marketing and PR Manager for the organisation. Catriona has been Acting CEO since 2013 while the position of Marketing and PR Manager is a new role within Siamsa Tíre. Catríona Fallon, a native of West Wicklow, moved to Kerry many years ago, drawn by its language, culture and scenery. She lives, with her family, near Dingle on the Chorca Dhuibhne Peninsula. Catríona has an extensive background in the arts having previously worked with Graphic Studio Gallery (Dublin), the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge and with the Killarney Summerfest when she first moved to Kerry. She joined Siamsa Tíre in 2004 as the Assistant General Manager and has been the Acting CEO since the departure of former Director, Karl Wallace. As CEO, Catriona is looking forward to working closely with her colleagues and the members of the Board of Siamsa Tíre to continue to develop Siamsa Tíre over the coming years. “Siamsa Tíre is a truly unique organisation, encompassing as it does, the National Folk Theatre of Ireland and also a wide range of activities as a theatre and arts centre. It has been a privilege to work with the company over the last decade and more, and I have come to understand and appreciate the special place Siamsa Tíre occupies in the community in Tralee and countywide. I’m looking forward, with a sense of excitement, to the years ahead.” Joe Leonard, Chairman Siamsa Tire comments “We are delighted that Catríona has accepted the role of CEO, given her long association with Siamsa Tíre. Catríona and her team work tirelessly to bring our audiences an exciting and varied cultural programme throughout the year and we look forward to future developments under her direction!” Joe continues, “We would also like to welcome Michelle to our team - she brings extensive industry experience, knowledge and contacts with her as well as a passion for the arts and what Siamsa Tíre has to offer.” Michelle Murphy is a native Kerry woman from Killarney with direct family connections to Tralee. Michelle has had an extensive career in Communications providing Marketing & Public Relations services across many industry sectors at home and abroad. She has worked with some of the world’s largest brands, through to small/medium sized organisations and start-ups, helping them develop and build their market share in Ireland, the UK, Europe and Australia. She has a background and life-long love of the Arts and has a range of tourism experience and related contacts from her work at the Kerry Convention Bureau, Bord Failte and tourism groups in the UK. Michelle’s role in Siamsa Tíre will be to help raise the profile of the National Folk Theatre, its entertainment and training programmes using media and promotional activity. She will also ensure that Siamsa Tíre’s regular audiences are kept informed of upcoming events in different forms. Michelle will develop and maintain relationships locally, nationally and internationally to increase visitors to Siamsa Tíre and its event and activities.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... TRALEE CHAMBER ALLIANCE HELPS ONE4ALL FIND KERRYS BEST EMPLOYEES,
One4all has opened entries for the annual `Spotlights’, which shine a light and reward those employees who have made an outstanding contribution to their company over the past year. This recognition programme from One4all in association with Chambers Ireland, Ireland’s largest business organisation, has been created for SMEs to recognise employees that go the extra mile and to offer employers and colleagues the facility to reward these unsung heroes. Nominations will be open from October 3 until October 28 and can be made via the One4all website, www.one4allrewards.ie/spotlights. The awards are open to all employers and employees of Irish SMEs and applications will be judged by an independent panel of business leaders, including members of Chambers Ireland. Judging will finish on November 8th, with winners being announced later that week. The Chambers involved in County Kerry are Tralee Chamber Alliance and Killarney Chamber In a One4all survey* carried out earlier this year, 58% of workers said feeling valued by an employer is what keeps them most engaged to their jobs. More than half, 52%, said that when choosing an employer in their field, a reputation for treating staff well was the most important factor. The Spotlights recognize those employees who have made an outstanding contribution in the workplace over the past 12 months, while also recognizing that employers within the SME sector may not be in a position to offer financial rewards to staff. To enter the Spotlights, simply nominate your chosen employee or work colleague, explaining why you feel they should receive recognition in no more than 300 words. The Spotlights will reward Provincial winners of Leinster, Munster and Connacht, with a €250 One4all Gift Card, with runner-up prizes of a €100 Gift card in each province. An overall All-Ireland winner, an unsung hero, will receive a One4all Gift card of €500. Ian Talbot, Chief Executive Chambers Ireland, said: This is a great way for Chamber members, and of course, the wider business community, to get their employees and companies engaged in a very positive process that rewards the many unsung heroes that help us all achieve success and who go that extra mile. The Spotlights remind employees that great work doesn’t go unnoticed and that great work is appreciated by their employers.’’

The school will be constructed on the site at Cloonmore (Hawley Park) which was transferred to Kerry ETB by Kerry County Council for the construction of the new school in March 2016. Based on current plans the new school building project will be completed in the 2019/20 academic year. Kerry Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB) at its Board meeting on March 21st signed the contract for the transfer of the 2.7 hectare site from Kerry County Council for the construction of the new Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí school building.
The new school building accommodation will include: • Over 20 general purpose classrooms • Specialists room including multimedia, music, design and communications graphics etc. • Science laboratories • Arts rooms • Home economics room • Construction studies, engineering and technology rooms • A school library, general purpose areas, students dining area, staff room etc. In addition the new school building project will include a full size PE hall for the school. TRALEE FARMER THOMAS CULLOTY SHORTLISTED FOR BORD BIA ORIGIN GREEN AWARD Thomas Culloty, a dairy farmer from Tralee, has been nominated for the first-ever Bord Bia Origin Green Farmer Awards, putting him among the most efficient farmers in the country. Origin Green is the world’s first national programme to address climate change and the broader sustainability challenges in food and agriculture. Bord Bia is inaugurating the Farmer Awards this year to the exceptional performance being achieved by members of Bord Bia’s Beef and Dairy Sustainability Assurance Schemes, which are pivotal to differentiating Irish food and drink in the global marketplace.
Mr. Culloty is a supplier to the Lee Strand Co-op. He manages a herd of 60 cows on a grazing block of 55 hectares, producing an average yearly output of 5500 litres per cow at 3.88% fat and 3.35% protein. His farm exhibits a keen focus on soil fertility, with a nutrient plan taking regular soil samples into consideration. His nomination cites efficient use of slurry on grazing ground throughout the year. The enterprise also has a notably low energy requirement. The ice builder from a previously built dairy allows chilled water to be used in the plate cooler, resulting in milk entering the bulk tank at 5oC, reducing the need to run the cooler regularly. Speaking on the opening day of this year’s National Ploughing Championship, Bord Bia Chief Executive Aidan Cotter said, “The Origin Green programme, and our industry’s proactive approach to sustainability, sets us apart from our international competitors while also ensuring Ireland is showing leadership in response to one of the most significant challenges facing the world today. As our €11 billion export-led industry grows to meet the ambitious targets set out in Food Wise 2025, now more challenging in a post-Brexit environment, Ireland’s capacity to demonstrate its green credentials will prove critical”. Ireland is also the first country in the world to audit and carbon footprint its farms on a national scale, currently at a rate of 650 a week. Mr. Cotter went on, “It is important for Bord Bia to acknowledge, celebrate and showcase best practice, efficient farmers who continue to lead by example. In what is a difficult year for farm incomes, lowering the farm’s Carbon Footprint through efficiency gains will not only reduce production cost and improve on-farm profitability, but will also enhance returns from the marketplace”.

THE GOLDEN TOILET
Dugly goes out drinking one night and gets blackout drunk. He wakes up the next morning to find that he has lost his credit card. He needs to get it back but he got so drunk he doesn’t remember which bar he ended up at. The only thing he remembers is that the bar had a golden toilet. He walks into down and goes into one bar and asked the bartender, “Excuse me, this is a weird question, but do you happen to have a golden toilet here?” “A golden toilet? I don’t think so,” the bartender said, giving him a strange look. The man walked into another bar,”Excuse me, you don’t happen to have a golden toilet here, do you?” said Dugly. “A golden toilet, huh? Don’t be ridiculous.” This continues all day until finally Dugly walks into a bar all the way on the other side of town. He asks the bartender: “Excuse me, I know this is going to sound strange, but do you have a golden toilet here? I got really drunk last night and left my credit card at a bar with a golden toilet.” The bartender smiles, turns around and yells, “Hey Bob, I think we found the guy who took a dump in your tuba!”

BON JOVI
Bill willingly allowed Lonnie to have the right to name their little girl. Bill, of course named both the boys. Blake and Bryan. After some long contemplating Lonnie decided to name her baby girl Love. Bill thought this seemed a bit odd of a name, but didn’t want to cause a commotion over it. He loved Lonnie, his two boys and his baby girl no matter she was named. Now Love didn’t think anything of her name until she started elementary school. The higher the grade the more teasing she received. By the time she finished 8th grade, Love started to despise her own name. Then on to 9th grade, 10th grade and 11th grade. Her anger grew with the teasing she received. Upon graduation from the 12th grade, Love had enough. She knew what she had to do. Bill and Lonnie had planned a celebrated dinner with Love later that night. Bill was at home waiting for Lonnie to return from shopping that evening as Love walked in the door. Without saying a word Love strode past Bill and headed straight for her room. Bill was a bit surprised by this. None the less he simply brushed it off and continued to finish reading his newspaper. No less than 2 minutes later Love walks out of her room with a gun in hand and tears in her eyes. She points it straight at Bill. Shoots him in the chest screaming how it was unfair of him giving her such a horrible name. She then turns to herself and shoots herself in the shoulder . Lonnie just returning home from the store walks in seeing the blood and sees her husband and daughter, injured on the ground, falls to her knees crying. She hears mumbling coming from Bill’s mouth. She crawls over as Bill tries speaking. “What is it honey. What happened here?” she asks. Bill looks into Lonnie’s eyes and whispers. “Shot though the heart, and you’re to blame. You gave Love a bad name.”

TORQUING CARS! CAR FACTORY FROZEN IN TIME WITH VEHICLE SHELLS STILL ON CONVEYOR BELTS 11 YEARS AFTER MG ROVER COLLAPSED
MG Rover collapsed in 2005, leaving more than 5,000 workers redundant, but now pictures have emerged from inside its famous Longbridge plant in Birmingham it was once the home of thousands of workers but today it is a time capsule of a company collapse and closure of a car factory. Frozen in time, personal items and old newspapers lay abandoned in offices. Car bodies sit on the production lines. Car door handles sit in boxes. MG Rover collapsed in 2005, leaving more than 5,000 workers redundant, but now pictures have emerged from inside its famous Longbridge plant in Birmingham, West Midlands, over a decade on. A photographer, who goes by the name Dab Hand, said it was a ‘privilege’ to see inside the factory which opened in 1905. The urban explorer said: “It was completely untouched. “To think thousands of people used to work there, and it’s like it’s been frozen in time. “There were still body shells of cars on the tracks, newspapers from 2009 and personal things people had left in offices. “I thought everything had been scrapped or sold off, but it had just been left. It was quite sad but also a privilege to see, as Rover was a massive employer in its day.” There were even body shells of the Rover 75 on the production lines. The images are a sharp contrast to the bustling pictures from the 1980s. In its hay day, the plant employed 25,000 workers.
THOUSANDS OF DRIVERS USING ILLEGAL ‘JAMES BOND-STYLE ROTATING NUMBERPLATE COVERS’ TO AVOID TRAFFIC FINES The gadgets are just like the one on the Aston MartinDB5 spy car but while drivers are using them on their own vehicles you could get TWO years in prison if caught Thousands of British motorists have fitted James Bond-style covers to their numberplates to illegally avoid cameras, it has been claimed. The £70 electric gadgets mimic the iconic number plate rotater used on Bond’s Aston MartinDB5 in Goldfinger. It’s been reported that they are widely available - with hundreds estimated to have been sold in the UK just in the last few months. But instead of dodging villains like Auric Goldfinger, modern versions are aimed at avoiding speed cameras, bus lane tickets, yellow line fines and even time limits on supermarket car parks . Pictures show how the stealth number plate covers are fitted to the front and back of the car and wired up to a sensor next to the steering wheel. Pushing a central locking style key fob causes a black electric cover to swiftly descend over the registration plates - blocking them from speed cameras and parking wardens. Other designs simply flip the number plate down into a flat position - allowing reckless motorists to avoid cameras. Motoring lawyer Nick Freeman - dubbed Mr Loophole - said he is currently involved in two prosecutions against drivers caught using the covers and estimated that ‘a few thousand’ number plate flippers were is use on the roads. He said that simply buying the devices could be an offence - while fitting them could lead to TWO YEARS in prison. But one Lithuanian man selling them on eBay boasted how 80 per cent of his customers are from the UK. He said: ‘’I send goods every week to your country. Eighty per cent of my buyers are from the UK.
LAND ROVER BUILD BIGGEST EVER LEGO STRUCTURE TO LAUNCH THEIR NEW DISCOVERY SUV Adventurer Bear Grylls abseiled down from a helicopter through the model of Tower Bridge drawbridge to launch the new 7-seater luxury off-roader Land Rover have built the biggest ever LEGO structure, a model of the iconic Tower Bridge to launch their new Discovery model. Taking five months and using almost six million bricks the giant replica of the landmark now holds the Guinness World Record. Adventurer Bear Grylls abseiled down past the 13m tall structure and through the drawbridge at the world premier for the new7-seater SUV in Birmingham. Then Olympian sailor Ben Ainslie drove his team though almost a metre of water while towing a LEGO replica the Land Rover Bar boat. This model is made from 186,500 bricks and is a copy of the one that will compete next year for the America’s Cup. While royal rider Princess Zara Phillips took to the stage on the other stage which featured a typically British picnic scene made entirely from LEGO bricks. In total the designers used 5,805,846 individual LEGO bricks, breaking the previous Guinness World Record by 470,646 pieces.
Laid end to end, the bricks would stretch for almost 200 miles, or from Tower Bridge in London to Paris. The show-stopping event was arranged to show off the latest Discovery in its 27-year history which has sold over 1.2 million models so far. 32

PRICES OF 4 BED SEMIS IN KERRY RISE BY 6.4% IN Q3
Following a dramatic surge in house prices during the summer, asking prices in Q3 paused for breath, rising by a modest amount according to the latest house price report from MyHome.ie The mix-adjusted price on newly listed properties nationally rose by 0.4% during the quarter while prices in Dublin rose by just 0.1%. Newly listed properties are seen as the most reliable indicator of future price movements. The mix adjusted asking price for new sales nationally is now €232K, while the corresponding figure for Dublin is €327K - an increase of €1K for both on Q2. As with most of the country, Q3 was a quarter of stable or moderate prices gains for Kerry house prices. While the prices of 3 bed semis remained unchanged at €130K the prices of 4 bed semis rose by 6.4% to €149K. The latest increase means prices are just fractionally (0.67%) below what they were this time last year. For the entire stock of properties listed for sale on the website prices rose 0.9% nationally and 0.4% in Dublin. The national mix adjusted figure is now €215K up €2K while in Dublin its €297K. The author of the report, Conall MacCoille, Chief Economist at Davy, said it was clear that following a busy summer trading period asking prices were now cooling as we head into the autumn months. “The big picture is that the lack of housing supply is now clearly hurting transactions. In the first eight months of this year transactions are down 5% on 2015, albeit with some recovery in August. Clearly there are few constraints from the mortgage market with €1.8bn of approvals in the three months to August. “Instead growing numbers of borrowers are chasing a diminishing pool of homes listed for sale. Competition amongst buyers is intense and this has driven ‘sale agreed times’ to a fresh low of 4 months – 3.3 months in Dublin and 4.5 months outside the capital.” “However looking ahead we believe the economic recovery together with the on-going lack of housing supply should lead to price gains close to 5% in 2017” MacCoille said. The Managing Director of MyHome.ie Angela Keegan said addressing the low rate of new homebuilding had to be a key priority for the Government. “In the first eight months of 2016 housing completions are up 19% compared with 2015. At this pace total completions for 2016 will be close to 15,000. This is well short of the 25,000 estimated necessary to meet demand from household formation. The reality is that in 2016 we will build the same number of houses we were building almost half a century ago in 1971. That simply cannot continue” Keegan warned.
THREE MAJOR HOTELS SOLD TO OWNER OF TV3 FOR €150M Three landmark Dublin hotels have been sold to a partnership backed by billionaire TV3 owner John Malone for a figure believed to be in excess of €150m. The John Malone Partnership (JMP) acquired the Spencer, Morgan and Beacon hotels from the Fitzpatrick Lifestyle Hotels Group and Patron Capital Partners. Capnua Corporate Finance and CBRE acted as joint advisers on the transaction. JMP includes John Malone, Paul Higgins and developer John Lally’s Lalco - and has been particularly active in the Irish market. It already owns the five-star Westin and Intercontinental hotels, among others. CEO of Fitzpatrick Lifestyle Hotels, Paul Fitzpatrick, said: “We are delighted today to be handing over the keys of a great business, with a fantastic
BELGARD MOTORS FOUNDER HITS JACKPOT ON HIS CUL-DE-SAC Ladywell, a modest dormer bungalow sitting on 0.89 hectares (2.2 acres) at Corrybeg in Templeogue, Co Dublin has sold for €4.8 million, according to the property price register. In 2013, businessman Brian Murphy, who lives on the same cul-de-sac, purchased the house for a fraction of that price. Murphy is a veteran of the motor trade, having founded Belgard Motors – formerly one of the biggest car dealers in Ireland. He was reported as having cannily sold his 50 per cent shareholding in Belgard in 2005 while business was booming, before the company ended up in liquidation just four years later, due to the onset of recession. His timing of the purchase of Ladywell in 2013, and its subsequent sale in August 2016, is similarly masterful. The property price register shows that he paid just €400,000 for the Templeogue property in 2013, however that only reflects the amount paid for the house, while it’s believed he paid closer to €2 million for the entire site. At the impressive sale price of €4.8 million, it’s quite the return within three years – without having to lift a shovel. The heavy lifting now appears to be the responsibility of Victoria Homes, and the developer has already begun to advertise the new development being built on the site. It will comprise 16 large and fine looking semi-detached houses ranging in size from 191sq m to 225sq m. 36

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR WARRIORS WIN BUT BASKETBALL THE REAL WINNER: When Irish TV Warriors Chairman Terry O’Brien and the other behind Kerry’s newest Basketball Superleague franchise they could not have dreamed of such as successful home debut. Of course the win on the court was the most important thing those involved can be very proud of how they handled things off the court. Firstly they could not have dreamed of a sell-out crowd or indeed that they would have to turn away nearly 100 people but they took it all in their stride. The volunteers, in their luminous tee-shirts (not sure if they are green or yellow!!) were very professional in the way they got the crowd in and it was a great sign for the club that so many people have volunteered to help on game nights. Many of them are recognisable from other clubs so they deserve thanks for getting involved in the new venture. And if the opening night crowd was anything to go by they will have many more busy nights. There next challenge will be the Cup game on October 22nd when the face Swords Thunder and we all know the attraction of Cup basketball so expect another full house at the Complex. And the win in their first home game over Belfast Star was certainly a great start. Consider that they did so without Kieran Donaghy and Goran Pantovic it was a very good team performance. Warriors did get a break when Trae Pemberton was declared fit to play. He had a good game as did Ryan Leonard and Darren O’Sullivan will all the players doing well, especially in getting the ball to the 6’11” Dusan Bogdanovic who top scored with 22 points. Ryan Leonard ended with 16 and Darragh O’Hanlon on 6. Speaking to coach Mark Bernsen afterwards he was happy with the overall performance of the team. “It was a good performance as we are still a work in progress. We probably did not play at the high tempo I want all the time but the players did well in getting the ball to Dusan offensively. We also fought hard defensively and remember Belfast Star had won their opening game and were mid table last season so they were tough opposition. But we will enjoy this win and continue to work hard. We have another tough away game to KUBS in Dublin this Saturday. Credit must also go to the Complex staff who were on duty on the night and indeed put in many hours pre-game getting the seats, signs etc ready for the game. The Complex will be getting a much needed make-over in the coming weeks with plans to change the floor after this season which will bring it up to the standards needed. Finally well done to the stars of the future from St Brendan’s and Tralee Imperials u10’s who put on a great display at half time. The future of basketball is in safe hands. The players were all presented with a souvenir Warriors tee-shirt by Terry O’Brien. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NOTES: St Brendan’s Ladies got their Division 2 Senior

Ladies campaign off to a winning start defeating St Mary’s 40-36. Both sides were rusty after the summer break and the game was tied at 8 all after the first quarter. St Brendan’s began to get into the groove under both boards and were into their stride in 3rd quarter scoring 18 points. This set them up for the win, despite a tight battle. In the Boys u12 Division 2 the boys were too strong for Glenbeigh Falcons winning 36-8. The action continues this week in the Boys u14’s and u16’s while training continues as normal. TRACK SUPPORTERS STAKE PUT BACK: There is racing this Friday and Saturday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium. The Track Supporters Club A3 Confined 525 yards which was due to start this Friday has been put back until Saturday October 15th. This is confined to entrants being members of the supporters club and must have two races ran at Tralee over any distance. The Kellihers Toyota Garage Tralee A1 current 525 yards starts on Friday October 14th. The track is also taking entries for the Red Mills Open Unraced Bitch Stake. It is open to 24 entrants and will commence on Friday November 11th. COURSING SEASON GETS UNDERWAY IN KILFLYNN: The coursing season has opened with the Stephen Fuller Memorial Cup being the highlight of the Kilflynn meeting. It was won by Kerry Abu (Central City / Sion Hawk) who caused a bit of surprise on the heavy underfoot conditions. The winner is owned and trained by Tralee’s Sean Counihan. Amy’s Angle took the Oaks ticket for Ardfert’s William Costello while The Reserve Derby Trail stake was won by another Ardfert man, Eugene Costello. The All Age Bitch Stake was won by Causeway’s Colletto Regan’s Lineroad Lamer. The action moves to Glin this weekend with the Desmond Cup meeting getting underway at 11.30am this Friday. WINTER SWIMMING SEASON: The Tralee Bay Winter Swimming season gets underway with the Turkey Series on Sunday October 23rd at 11pm from Lockes Beach. There is no pressure on distance from just a dip to swimming a mile. The only rule is no wetsuits. There will be tea and coffee and refreshments afterwards and all this for only e2. And that also give you 1 ticket into the Turkey Raffle (my first time using the word Turkey this year – Christmas must be round the corner!!). ST BRENDAN’S/ OAKPARK COMMUNITY GAMES: The St Brendan’s / Oakpark Community Games AGM will be held in Na Gael clubhouse on Monday 17th October, at 9pm. It is important that all those who have children in the area attend to discuss plans for next year. Children get so much from community games, either at
Friday 7th October 2016
THE SOCCER CORNER: KDL NEWS: There was no luck for the U17’s in their final SSE Airtiricty League game. They were beaten 2-0 by Limerick in a game where Dillon Robinson injured his ankle and we all wish him a speedy recovery. Tralee’s Darragh Lowth was a torn in the home side all game and his cross led to Limerick’s first goal in the 39th minute when Bradley McNamara scored. Their second goal came after Lowth’s shot came back off the crossbar and Lee Devitt Molloy scored from the rebound. They will now play in the Shield, which is a knockout competition, and have just been drawn against Limerick again. The game is set for Sunday October 16th with the venue to be confirmed. In the Umbro FAI Junior Cup there was disappointment when The Park had to give a walkover to Castleisland. This is not good for a club the size of the Park or indeed good for soccer in Tralee. There are probably too many teams in Tralee and too many players moving for no good reason but that’s for another day. Tralee Dynamos will be happy with their 2-1 away win against Athea United and Mitchels Avenue had a good win defeating Askeaton 3-0. In the League CSKA Tralee were 4-1 winners over AC Athletic in Premier B while Tralee Celtic drew 1-1 with Castelgregory Celtic in 1A. In 1B Strand Road defeated Inter Kenmare B 4-0 while in Division 2 Tralee Bay were 3-1 winners away to Lenamore. In the Youths League The Park were defeated 3-1 by Listowel Celtic. SCHOOLBOYS NEWS: There were wins for The Park in the JK Sports 12 Premier 3 while in Premier 4 The Park were defeated by Listowel Celtic. The Park were also winners in Foundation Sports 14 Premier over Mastergeeha while Tralee Dynamos drew 1-1 with Inter Kenmare in Division 1. Both Tralee clubs won in the Trophy World 16 Premier with Dynamos defeating Killarney Celtic and Park winning at home to Killorglin. ST BRENDAN’S PARK TEAM OF THE WEEK: Well done to the following who made the Park Team of the Week: Lee Wharton u9, James Sheehan u16A, Danny Fisher u14B, Ryan Guerin u14A, Shoun Kedzierski u14A, Edison Jahiri u9, Shane Griffin u8, Sean McGrath u16A, Darragh Caplis u14A, Jamie Williams u12A, Sean Moynihan u12B. SEAN’S IN THE GREEN: Tralee Dynamos Sean Kennedy and The Park’s Sean McGrath are heading to Dublin once again for Republic of Ireland under age training. Both boys are now becoming regular members of Irish squads. THE OVAL BALL: In Munster Junior Rugby Tralee were beaten at home by a very impressive Youghal in J2. Jamie Lynch got Tralee’s only try in a 32-13 defeat. Tralee will entertain Mallow this Sunday in a big game for two sides that are struggling this season. GAA CORNER: SPEEDY RECOVERY: Everybody involved in any sport will join with us here on the Talking Sport column in wishing Kerins O’Rahilly’s Giles O’Grady a speedy recovery from the serious leg injury he received in the County Championship quarter final last Sunday. Bad Weekend for Tralee Football:

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES The defeat of Austin Stacks and Kerins O’Rahillys ended Tralee’s interest in this year’s championships. There is no Tralee team left in any of the major championships. Kerin’s O’Rahillys were defeated by Dr Crokes 1-16 to 0-14 while Austin Stacks were out to Kenmare District 0-15 to 0-12. In the Crokes win Colm Cooper was the main man and Rahilly’s could not stop him as he scored 1-05. With Templenoe and Kenmare Shamrocks both having very good season and qualifying for the County Intermediate final this was always going to be a tough game for the Tralee side. However they were still expected to come through. But it wasn’t to be and the Bishop Moynihan Cup will not be in the capital this year. CAMOGIE NEWS: In Camogie news Causeway defeated Cillard 7.03 to 5.04 in the u14A County League final. The game was played in Ballyheigue and Cillard were ahead early on but Causeway took control for the rest of the first half and were 6-01 to 3-01 up at the break and stayed ahead with a delighted Aoife Coleman accepting the trophy from Co Board Chairman Joanne Diggin. Well done to Causeway’s u12 team that won the Veronica Stack Memorial Tournament in Killarney last weekend. Taking part were alongside the hosts were Midleton, Clonakilty, Parnells and Millstreet. The u14/15/16 combination were also in action in the Veronica Stack Memorial Tournament and had a great win in the semi-final against Midleton. However they only had ten minutes break before the final and they lost out to Kilbrittain / Timoleague. PARNELL’S NEWS: The Awards Night takes place this Friday night in the Rahilly’s clubhouse. The u6’s and 8’s awards are from 7pm with the older ages from 8pm. In other dates a fun quiz night is planned for Friday, November 11th and the Parnells AGM takes place on Friday November 18th from 8pm. Well done to all involved in the Veronia Stack Memorial Tournament, organised by the Killarney Camogie Club. All those from Parnells really enjoyed their day out in Lewis Road. Ardfert trip: Over 40 under 6’s and 8’s travelled to Ardfert for a great morning of hurling and then really enjoyed their trip to Pirate Pete’s in Banna. All coaches and parents are asked to familiarise themselves with the GAA Concussion guidelines. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 1,11,16 and 18 with the next Jackpot being e2,700. The draw will take place in Skelper Quane’s Bar on Sunday night. Academy: The u6’s, u8’s and u10’s were back in Academy action last weekend learning more skills from the highly qualified coaches. Well done to all the players who have picked up Player of the Week awards. Senior Team: Division 3 Play-Off: St Pat’s 2-11 Annascaul 0-10: St Pat’s had a good win in the Division 3 Promotion Play-off defeating Annascaul in dry but windy conditions in Milltown. This was a very competitive game with both sides hungry for the win. St Pat’s opened a 6 point lead early on. Their first goal came from Willie Hurley who fielded a high ball and finished to the net past Tommy Pierce. St Pat’s second goal was a great solo effort by dual star Jordan
Conway who beat a number of defenders and slotted the ball to the net. The result sees St Pats promoted to Division 2, a reward that is deserved by the team after a very good season. St Pat’s are playing in the final of the Lee Strand St Brendan’s Board Senior Football League. They take on Ballymac this Sunday, October 9th in Blennerville with a 12 noon throw-in with extra time if required. MUNSTER PITCH EDUCATION DAY The Munster Pitch Education Day will take place in Thurles Sarsfields GAA Club on Sat 15th of October 2016. Registration is from 9am to 10am and the course starts from 10am to 4pm. Topics to be covered include: plant nutrition and weed identification and control, pitch aeration and line marking, machinery selection and maintenance etc. This is a great opportunity for club and county grounds men/parks committees. Since part of the day will be spent outdoors, waterproof clothing will be required. KERINS O’RAHILLY’S NEWS: As mentioned above the seniors went out of the Garvey’s Supervalu Senior Championship at the quarter final stage to Dr.Crokes. Everyone in the club was shocked to see Giles suffering such a severe leg injury and all want to see him back in the club colours as soon as possible. As well as a player Giles is recognised as a top class coach and does great work around the county. The injury certainly affected the players and the team were behind 1-10 to 0-09 at the break. The required goal never came and so well done to the Crokes on their win. Cahill Cup: Charlie Kerins will play Skellig Rangers in the final of the Cahill Cup after the West Kerry side overcame Churchhill in their semi-final replay. The date , time and venue of the final has yet to be confirmed. Juvenile News: There are still great numbers turning up for the u6’s and u8’s academy. The u10’s enjoyed a great morning in Firies playing 3 challenge matches. The u10 and 12 girls are training each week. The u12 boys are enjoying a rest after their great season while the u14’s played St Pat’s last Sunday and secured their second win in 2 games. They are into the final of the Town League. The u16’s also played St Pat’s and got their win. The Ladies were delighted with the support they got for their recycling event. The u12’s played Abbeydorney in a challenge game and showed some fine skills. Training continues on Friday’s in Ballyrickard. The u14’s are back in training as are the Junior Ladies. Lotto: There was no jackpot winner from the numbers drawn 14,16, 22 and 32 and the next jackpot will be e4,300. AUSTIN STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: The u6’s had an enjoyable hours football against neighbours Na Gaeil. They will train on Sunday’s only until the end of October. The u8’s and u10’s will take place in the Siobhan Cotter Blitz in Churchill this Sunday while the U12’s took part in the final of the Charlie Healy Cup to round off a very enjoyable year. The club thanks the players and parents for their commitment during the season. The A’s defeated Na Gaeil to be crowned champions of the Division 1 Town League, completing a great treble of County, Central and Town titles. The B’s were unlucky to go down to Mitchels. They play Rahillys in the final round this week.
The 16’s just got the better of St Brendan’s to win to qualify for the final of the District Plate Championship. They now face East Kerry. Hurlers Win: The Juvenile hurlers were delighted to see the seniors win their County Championship at the weekend. Best of luck to all the hurlers who are in line for Hurling Awards at their celebration this week where Andrew Morrisey will act as MC. He was a member of the clubs winning team. Senior still in with a chance: While they may be out of the County Championship if Kenmare District lift the title The Stacks will represent Kerry in Munster. Go On Kenmare District!! ON THE GREENS: Second for Mary: Tralee’s Mary Sheehy and her Irish teammates had to be content with second in the Senior Home Internationals held in Scotland. Ireland went down to England and Wales but had a good win over Scotland and took the runner’s up spot on count back with England winning the title. Designer Honoured: Golf designer Dr Arthur Spring will be honoured by Castlegregory Golf Club this weekend. Members of the Spring family and club members will be present on Saturday at 4pm for the unveiling. Tralee into Dr Billy Decider: Tralee GC will face Killorglin in the final of the Dr Billy O’Sullivan Shield after they overcame Castleisland 3.5 to 1.5. This was a tight match all through the 5 games. Killorglin got past Ceann Sibeal 3-2 in their semi-final. The final is set for O’Mahony’s Point on Saturday, October 15th with the first game away at 10am. Results: In the Club sponsored Fourball the winners were Billy Morrisey and Pat Conneely. Second was the duo of Tim Leahy and Gerry Ryan with Steve Renardson and Derek Bulman taking 3rd. In the Ladies Master Classic Final Barbara Reen (35 points) defeated Emma Morrissey (34 points) to take the title. In the Fourball sponsored by Atlantic Oils the winners were Fionuala Mann and Mary Savage.
