Undoubtedly, here in Kerry we have some of Europe’s most romantic backdrops. Here are our top picks for popping the question… Which one are you?

The Scribe

All over the county we are spoiled with glittering golden sand and the sparkling ocean. Choose Ladies Beach in Ballybunion or whichever beach is nearest to write your “Marry Me?” in the sand.

Imagine the aroma of delicious food and the ambiance of romance... Book a table at

your favourite restaurant and make sure to order champagne. At the right moment, ask your question over the candlelight while gazing adoringly into your love’s eyes. The Meadowlands Tralee has a special Valentines evening organised – four course dinner and bubbly.

The Adventurer

The Cuddler

If you are happiest snuggled up beside your love, but want to be a bit more imaginative, then a horsedrawn carriage ride at the Lake of Killarney is the perfect spot for your big question.

Blending traditional and physical theatre with an original musical score, this muscular production brings to life some of literature’s most vibrant language and characters in a way you’ve never seen before. This is Shakespeare for the Game of Thrones generation. This gripping ensemble re-imagining embraces Shakespeare’s brutality and amplifies the exhilaration and violence of one of the greatest plays ever written. The story begins - The King of Denmark is dead. Consumed with grief, Prince Hamlet avenges his father’s death with Friday 10th February 2016

devastating consequences for his family and the Kingdom. Shakespeare’s most challenging play tells the tale of Prince Hamlet fighting the new King who stole his throne. Director Max Lewendel comments, “Hamlet is a story of revenge - The young prince is not self-pitying or self-indulgent. He is angry. He is infuriated by the world that envelops him. Torn and enabled by his mental malady, the Herculean character embarks on a self-destructive rampage to avenge his father’s death.“ With a design inspired by the mythology of Greek and Roman Gods, this ensemble-

driven production of Hamlet uses its dynamic cast to accentuate the constant conflict of the various elements the young prince’s psychology. A performance not to be missed by students and drama lovers alike!

IT TRALEE & GLENEAGLE ESTABLISH NEW INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT IT Tralee and The Gleneagle Group have joined forces to create a new International College of Hotel Management which is preparing to welcome its first students in September 2017. The college, which is modelled on the Swiss hotel management education system, is the first of its kind in Ireland and is backed by a major international education group with similar colleges in Germany and Austria. The college will offer higher education programmes in hotel management to mainly international students. The courses will combine practical on-the-job training with classroom and online learning designed to equip students with the varied skillset required for a successful career in the hospitality industry. The new venture represents a key strategic public / private partnership between The Gleneagle Group and IT Tralee while securing students from overseas is one of a number of objectives specified under the Action Plan for Jobs (2016). Dr. Oliver Murphy, President of IT Tralee outlined: “The 12

TRALEE ADVERTISER

opening of the International College of Hotel Management in Killarney represents an excellent opportunity for IT Tralee. We have had some notable successes in the internationalisation of our programmes with almost 400 international students attending our Tralee campus annually. This experience, coupled with our extensive range of tourism and hospitality programmes, will help ensure the new college benefits from our international education experience. This venture is a key development in our pathway towards the attainment of the Munster Technological University (MTU) status in partnership with CIT.” Patrick O’Donoghue, CEO of The Gleneagle Group said: “Killarney is the home of Irish tourism, there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here. This college will harness the intrinsic expertise of the locality and the excellent academic offerings of IT Tralee to produce a worldclass suite of courses. Our ancestors established a centre of learning on Inisfallen, which Friday 10th February 2016

attracted scholars from across Europe. Now, centuries later, we will once again welcome students from around the world to Killarney.” Mary Rose Stafford, Head of School of Business, Computing and Humanities acknowledges the longer term benefits the college will bring at regional and national level: “The programmes will be unique in terms of how they are taught. Programme delivery will focus on workbased learning and distance learning, as well as traditional lectures and practical demonstrations. Students

living and studying in Killarney will contribute to the economy of the town and will undertake their work-placements in hotels throughout the region. We hope to gain the support of regional hotel providers and we will be encouraging them to benefit from the availability of highly trained and skilled personnel for placements.” While the first students are expected to join the college in September 2017, the full degree programme will be on offer from September 2018 and will be an honours bachelor degree (NFQ Level 8) in Hotel Management.

TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)

Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology I'm hearing a lot about all this superfast broadband in Kerry... whats the latest update? who will benefit?

Billy says: In the last year Eir and Vodafone have made upgrades to their networks. The benefit is you can now get up to 1GB of speed. The Eir Price starts from €30 for the first three months and €70 thereafter 12-month contract. Vodafone which uses the Siro network, Price is €40 for the first 6 Months and €55 thereafter for 350 MB Speed, which is an 18 month contract. Both offer TV Packages. To be fair to Eir ther are the only provider that are rolling out a rural Fibre Network. If you have seen KN Vans in your area, then you will soon get access to the Fibre network. All is not lost if you are in a very rural area because there are other broadband Providers.Check out the following website. https://switcher.ie/broadband/ireland/kerry

My Sky bill has rocketed ! with Movies and Sports ...Can I get rid of this big bill?

Billy says: Sky provide a good service and the don’t like to lose subscribers so I would suggest giving them a call as they are always willing to look at your subscription to see can they reduce it. A good idea is to write down what channels you watch in a week to see if they are available on Free to Air. You can get recording boxes to record the free to air and if you miss programs on RTE or TV3 ,you can catch up using their online players .Don't worry if your TV is not a smart TV, you can get Apple TV or an Android Box or a Google Chromecast .This will give you the ability to access the players. This is far cheaper than buying a new TV .Also if you get your Home broadband from Eir , then you are entitled to receive a number of Eirsport and BT Sport channels for FREE on your Sky Box

Question I care full-time for a relative with a disability and I have applied for Carer’s Allowance. Although I am not yet aged 66 would I be entitled to a free travel pass, if I qualify for this allowance? Answer Everyone aged 66 and over living permanently in the State is entitled to the Free Travel Scheme. If you are under age 66 and registered for a Public Services Card, you will be awarded free travel with your Carer’s Allowance. You will be issued with a new Public Services Card which will also be your Free Travel Card. The card will have “F-T” printed in a yellow octagon in the top left-hand corner. If you have not yet registered for the Public Services Card, you will be asked to register before your Free Travel Card issues to you. The Public Services Card allows people to access a range of government services and payments and it will eventually replace the Free Travel Pass. In order to keep your entitlement to Free Travel, you must register for the Public Services Card when requested to do so by the Department of Social Protection. Your entitlement to Free Travel will be disallowed or withdrawn if you don’t register. You must show your Public Services Card to the travel operator when you are travelling on public transport. (In some cases you may be asked to scan your Public Services Card. However, not all transport operators have this facility.) Note that people under 66 getting PRSI-based Carer’s Benefit are not entitled to a Free Travel Card. If you are living with the person you care for, you may also be entitled to the Household Benefits Package, which includes an electricity or gas allowance as well as a free TV licence. Only one person in a household can qualify for the package at any time. TRALEE CITIZENS CITIZENS TRALEE INFORMATION INFORMATION CENTRE CENTRE Opening Hours: Hours: Opening

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... RYANAIR GIVES KERRY AIRPORT A BOOST FROM BERLIN! KERRY Airport has welcomed Ryanair’s announcement that the airline will commence a new service from Berlin to Kerry in November 2017. The new route will operate twice weekly over the winter months from Berlin Schönefeld SXF, which is located just 22 KM from Berlin City Centre, while excellent road and public transport connections link Schönefeld Airport with Berlin and the surrounding region. The Chairman of Kerry Airport, Denis Cregan, said: “We are very happy with today’s announcement. Germany is a key market for Ireland and for Kerry & the South West. Germany is the ‘world travel champion’* as the worldwide

number one outbound market for international tourism, and German travellers are the top three in spending terms. So, this is great news for the Airport, for Kerry and for the Region. Kerry Airport is a key asset for the county and the region, and between our Frankfurt Hahn service and our new Berlin route we hope to welcome many more German visitors to Kerry in 2017. Our thanks to Ryanair for their continued support and confidence in Kerry Airport.” To celebrate our new Kerry to Berlin route, Ryanair have released seats for sale across their European network from just €9.99, which are available for booking until midnight

Monday (13 Feb) from www. ryanair. com. Ryanair’s Head of

Communications, Robin Kiely, said: “Ryanair is pleased to announce a new route from Kerry to Berlin, with a twice weekly service, as part of our Kerry winter 2017 service, which will go on sale soon. Irish customers and visitors can look forward to even lower fares when they make advance bookings for their summer or winter holidays, so there’s never been a better time to book low fare flight to or from Kerry.” The announcement of the new Kerry-Berlin service from November 2017 has underlined the importance of Kerry as a destination and gateway for the German tourist market and will ensure increased visitor numbers to the region. The General Manager at Kerry Airport, Peter Moore, said: “This is great news for the Airport. We have been working hard over the last few years in trying to attract

new routes and there is no doubt that our record on the Frankfurt Hahn route assisted us in delivering this new service. German tourists who visit Kerry and the region are amazed with the scenery, hospitality, and in particular the access to the Wild Atlantic Way. Kerry Airport welcomed over 325,000 passengers in 2016, up approximately 6 % on 2015. Today’s news will ensure increased visitor numbers to the region and assist us in our developments at the Airport.” Kerry Airport is ideally located for anyone wishing to travel on business or pleasure with direct flights to seven destinations including: London Luton, London Stansted, Frankfurt-Hahn, Berlin (November 2017), Alicante & Faro (summer 2017) with Ryanair, and to Dublin with Aer Lingus Regional. COULD KERRYMAN FASSBENDER BE THE NEW JAMES BOND? BoyleSports can report a major move in the Next James Bond market that has seen Kerry native, Michael Fassbender jump straight to the head of the betting as the new favourite. Available at 20/1 on Monday, Fassbender is now the new 9/4 favourite to replace Daniel Craig with Tom Hardy his nearest challenger in the betting at 11/4, but eased from 7/4 following the gamble. Dublin actor Aidan Turner isn’t without a chance at 4/1 whilst both Idris Elba and James Norton are priced at 9/2. Tom Hiddleston, who was once odds on to land the 007 role, is now priced at 8/1 with Jack Huston a 12/1 chance. Another Dubliner, Colin Farrell can be backed at 25/1 whilst if politics doesn’t last for US President Donald Trump he is priced at 100/1 to swap the White House for a Martini Shaken Not Stirred. Liam Glynn, BoyleSports spokesperson said “We have seen a major move for Michael Fassbender to take over from Daniel Craig and be named as the Next James Bond. Some punters are now on at nice chunky prices including 20/1, 16/1 and 10/1.” He added “The Kerry native is now the new 9/4 favourite and at present continues to attract support resulting in him posing as a large liability if he manages to become the next 007. Maybe the news is only around the corner judging by the surge of support over the past few days.” Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066 7122982 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

JACK DANIEL’S BRINGS ‘BAR SLIDE’ EXPERIENCE TO HENNESSYS BAR, TONIGHT In celebration of the incredible history of the Jack Daniel Distillery – founded in 1866, making it the oldest registered distillery in the U.S. – Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey announced details of the Jack Daniel’s ‘Bar Slide’ experience coming to Kerry on Friday, 10th February 2017. The Jack Daniel’s bar slide competition will visit bars nationwide gathering friends of Jack along the way with Kerry being one of the lucky destinations in Ireland. On Friday, 10th February 2017, the authentic Lynchburg bar slide experience will take place in Hennessy’s Bar, Castle Street, Tralee between 10.30pm and 12.00pm. allowing players to take a trip through years of authentic taste and experience. Those who land their puck in the ‘150 Year Prize Zone’ will win an exclusive Jack Daniel’s prize as well as being entered into the draw for the grand prize.

COGHLAN REITERATES CALL FOR VULTURE FUNDS TO COME OUT OF HIDING Speaking in the Seanad this week , Leas Cathaoirleach and Fine Gael Kerry Senator, Paul Coghlan, said that so-called vulture funds must appear before the Oireachtas Finance Committee as a matter of urgency. “A number of vulture funds refused reasonable requests to appear before the Finance Committee in the last Oireachtas and I understand the same may be happening again now. “It is crucial that the Finance Committee engages with 22

these entities to get an understanding of their operations in Ireland, to identify the strength of the current regulatory regime as it applies to these funds and to address concerns about their impact on borrowers here. “The Finance Committee has engaged with the banks, the Central Bank, individual borrowers and market experts, all of whom have had valuable things to say about the banking and financial crisis here. However these vulture funds, which collectively Friday 10th February 2016

own billions of euro of distressed debt, are refusing to engage with us or to allow the legitimate concerns that genuine people have put to us, to be addressed. “Today in the Seanad I urged the Seanad Leader to explore measures to compel these funds to attend before the Oireachtas, and to ascertain what legal steps are required to secure their co-operation. These funds impact on the lives of thousands of our citizens and we must not allow them to shun the legitimate

and well intentioned work of the Oireachtas, which represents those citizens. These guys don’t understand ‘softly softly’ – compelling them to attend might be the only way to go.”

Hello everyone! Happy Friday! This week I’m going to be helping out all you gals who want make Valentine’s Day all about YOU. As The Pussycat Dolls say “I Don’t Need A Man To Make Me Feel Good”. There’s plenty of ways you can enjoy Valentine’s Day without having ‘that someone special’ in your life. I’ve had more than a few Valentines of celebrating me so here are my 10 top tips on a Valentine’s Day for YOU!

10 Ways to Own V-Day! 1. BUY YOURSELF SOMETHING:

You don’t need to spend money on anyone else. This is your day. Spoil yourself. Get that high end bronzer you’ve been ogling the past 2 months, (Benefit Hoola Bronzer is fab!), get yourself that book you’ve been dying to read, splurge on those shoes that nearly have a hole in them from you staring in at them from outside the shop window. Retail therapy is a necessity for you this Valentines. BUY YOURSELF SOMETHING!

you can’t do it for yourself. We all know and love that feeling of fabulosity when our underwear matches.

5. HAVE FUN WITH YOUR GIRLS:

2. GET A WASH & BLOW-DRY:

Don’t lie, having your hair blow dried professionally feels amazing. When your hair feels great, you feel great. Who doesn’t love a good hair day? A wash & blow dry from a hair salon costs in and around €20, you’re worth it. 6.

3. PAINT YOUR NAILS:

I don’t know about you but when my nails are painted or when I’ve got my gels on, I just feel a bit more together and on top of things. It has me all like ‘Hey world, I’m ready for anything today’! So give those tips a fresh coat or if you’re like me and can’t paint your nails for love nor money, go get shellacs, gels, whatever you please!

As Carrie Bradshaw once said, “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.” Plan a fun night in with takeaway and wine or a night out on the town with even more wine. Either way you’re guaranteed laughter, fun and maybe a little bit of tears over horrible exes!

DRESS UP:

If you are going to head out, get your glad rags on. Wear the high heels that make your legs go on for days and that dress you have in your wardrobe that you’ve been saving, look like a million dollars, feel like a million dollars!

7. DRESS DOWN:

4. WEAR MATCHING UNDERWEAR:

Just because you’ve no plans for anyone to see said underwear, doesn’t say

On the flip side, if you’re staying in dress down and cosy. Fluffy socks, comfy clothes and hair on top of the head. You know you’re fabulous anyway.

8. HOME TREATMENTS:

Whip out the face mask, foot cream, hair mask & other pamper goodies and turn your home into a spa. Tonight it’s all about you.

9. HEAD TO FIFTY SHADES DARKER:

In case you forgot (you know you didn’t don’t lie), Fifty Shades Darker is out this weekend. I could think of worse things to do than stare at Jamie Dornan half naked for 2hrs.

10. IF ALL ELSE FAILS…

At least all the Valentines chocolate is reduced Wednesday, and we all know it tastes so much better when it’s half price!

So that’s it for this week! Hope you all enjoyed this week’s light hearted post! Have a great weekend and I’ll be back here next week with more beauty related goodness! FITNESS!

Hello my strong strong friends, I hope you’re having an absolutely fantastic week. This week I will be talking about something that I have noticed a lot recently, being too influenced with regards to your health and fitness and being careful who/what you’re influenced by. What do I mean by this? The fitness and health industry is completely booming at the moment, this means that there are lots of people on social media and online talking all things health/ fitness/nutrition, myself included. While this is a positive thing as it is raising awareness about health, it also means a lot of different people giving both their educated(and sometimes unfortunately uneducated) views and opinions on either Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook. Why is this dangerous? If you look at a person who isn’t body confident, has body image issues and isn’t sure what to do with regards to their health. They might go onto Instagram and see a bodybuilder saying one thing, a slimming world person saying another, a bikini competition competitor saying another… and so on… This person might not understand that all those people are doing completely different things and have different goals so therefore they take different pieces of information from each person and applies it to themselves. Then maybe get frustrated

and even more confused when they don’t see desired results. Do you see what I mean? I have noticed more and more social influencers mentioning ad hoc things such as ‘I feel like a whale’ ‘I’m doing a detox this week’ and other pretty harmless statements… or so they seem. But if there is a young person who really looks up to them watching/ reading those things, it can have such a huge consequences. Now I’m not saying all the information online is a bad thing, but you do have to be careful. Just because the girl from Australia has an amazing body and you want to look like her, doesn’t mean what she does will work for your body. Just because the fitness guy from California eats IIFYM and has Pop Tarts every morning, doesn’t mean it’s healthy. EVERY SINGLE BODY IS DIFFERENT. DIFFERENT APPROACHES WORK FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE. Yes there are some websites, professional nutritionists and personal trainers who give out amazing free information that will help

you, Recalibrated Bodies, Rob Lipsett, Sarah Godfrey, Nikki Blackketter, Sigma Nutrition and Amanda Bucci are just some of the people that I follow that I find are really positive, motivating and give out really good educated advice, and don’t try to sell you stupid cookie cutter diets. If you genuinely need help nutrition/workout wise and feel really confused and overwhelmed, the absolute best thing for you to do is enlist the help of a professional personal trainer. They will know exactly what you should do with regards to YOUR body for YOUR lifestyle.

body you see looks like that all day every day, most of those pictures are taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach or else they’re perfectly posed. Remember, just like the girl in the magazine doesn’t even look like the girl in the magazine… the girl on Instagram doesn’t look like her perfectly posed freeze frame 24/7.

The internet is a fantastic place with so much information, you just have to be careful. Not every perfect

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2017

THE FOOD OF LOVE! Valentines Day is upon us so here are two dishes for those who want to cook at home. So if you want to try cooking up a storm this year try one of these lovely dishes.

PRAWNS IN A WARM PESTO SAUCE

CUMIN-SCENTED POTATOES WITH TOMATOES (GHURMA ALOO) Of Iranian origin, ghurmas are thick-sauced, long-simmered stews, spiked with dry herbs and thickened with vegetables

INGREDIENTS

3 tablespoons olive oil, divided 1 medium shallot, thinly sliced 1 can diced tomatoes 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided 1 can white beans, rinsed, drained 1/4 cup high-quality pesto, plus more for serving 8 ounces shrimp, peeled, deveined (about 16 medium) Thick slices of crusty toasted bread (for serving

METHOD 1.

2.

Heat 2 Tbsp. oil in a large pan over medium; cook shallot until just softened and golden, about 2 minutes. Add tomatoes with their juices, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper, and 1/4 cup water. Increase heat to high, bring to a boil, and cook until sauce thickens slightly, about 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low, add beans and 1/4 cup pesto, and cook, stirring, until warmed through, 1–2 minutes. Taste and adjust salt if needed, then divide bean mixture between 2 large, shallow bowls. Wipe out pan. Heat remaining 1 Tbsp. oil in pan over medium-high. Add shrimp and remaining 1/4 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. pepper. Cook, stirring often, until shrimp is cooked through and starting to take on a little color on both sides, about 3 minutes. Divide shrimp between bowls with beans; drizzle with additional sauce. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they sizzle, turn reddish brown, and are fragrant, 5 to 10 seconds. Add the potatoes, onion, and turmeric, and stir-fry until the potatoes and onion are lightly browned around the edges, 4 to 6 minutes. Sprinkle in the salt and cayenne, and stir once or twice. Pour in 1 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pan, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are almost fall-apart tender, 18 to 20 minutes. Stir in the tomato and coriander, and cover the pan. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the tomato is warmed through, about 2 minutes. Then serve Recipes by

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE BEDROOM!!! BEDROOM ANTICS!!! “FIRSTLY GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER”… As a physiotherapist I am often asked which is the best type of mattress for people with back pain. Many years ago my Nana had a wonderful insight…. There are two things in life, where you should buy the very best you can afford – A bed and Shoes – “cause if you’re not in one you’re in the other”. INTRODUCTION The right mattress can really help one have a good-nights sleep and wake up feeling rested and refreshed. Sleeping the on wrong mattress can cause sleeplessness, back pain and overall aches and pains. For people with a back problem a mattress that isn’t a good fit can make the pain worse. MATTRESSES ARE A PERSONAL CHOICE: When searching for the right mattress it is important to remember that mattresses are largely a matter of personal preference. There is no single type of mattress or bed that works well for all people and there is no best mattress for back problems. Likewise there is no single sleep position known to be best for all people, this is due to several factors: •

There are many causes of back problems and different back conditions may respond better to specific type of beds, mattresses and sleep positions There is a high degree of personal preference for mattresses what works well for one person may not work well for another There is very limited scientific study published on mattresses and back pain and findings from the studies that have been completed are largely inconclusive.

Overall the causes of back pain can be quite complex and it is difficult to isolate whether or not a person’s mattress has played a significant role in improving the pain or making it worse. The bottom line is the type of mattress that is best

for any particular person is really a matter of personal preference. While individual preference is probably most important factor in determining the best mattress for each person there are some general rules of thumb that constitute a good mattress: 1.

2.

3.

In general most people prefer a firmer mattress that gives the spine more support. While there is no definitive literature that absolutely supports this claim it makes sense that it is beneficial to have support for the spine when sleeping. It is thought that a mattress should provide support for the spine at all points along the spines natural curves and keep the spine in the same body position as a good standing posture. While a firm mattress is usually good if the mattress is too hard it can cause aches and pains on pressure points. There are no significant external forces on the spine while one is sleeping so even a firmer mattress although it probably gives more support is not absolutely necessary. If one feels comfortable on a softer mattress or even a waterbed it is quite reasonable to sleep on a softer mattress. As an overall rule from any

mattress that helps a person sleep well so that he or she wakes feeling rested and refreshed and without the feeling of stiffness or is the mattress for that individual. Before buying a mattress it is best to try sleeping on it. People may try different beds in hotels or in other people’s houses and when they find the best mattress for them then buy the same make or model. If it is not possible to sleep on a mattress first it is advisable to at least lie on the mattress in the store until feeling sure that is a comfortable fit. There are two main factors to consider: 1.

1.

Support – the coils or inner springs of mattress must provide support for the spine. A mattress should have enough coils to provide adequate support and allow for the natural curves. Comfort – the padding on top of the mattress primarily provides comfort. This is really the matter of personal preference some people prefer thick bedding and some thin. In

general the higher number of coils and the thicker the padding the higher the quality and therefore the more expensive mattress however, this does not mean that it is necessary to buy the mattress with the biggest number of coils or the thickest padding. Mattress preference is dictated by a number of factors and while it is important to provide an adequate level of support for the person’s spine personal preference and comfort level is the bottom line on selecting a mattress.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! BIG FARM

A Texan rancher comes to Ireland and meets a Kerry farmer. The Texan says, “Takes me a whole goddam day to drive from one side of my ranch to the other.” The Kerry farmer says, “Ah sure, I know, sir. We have tractors like that over here too.”

A Spanish singer chatting on television used the word ‘manana’. When asked what that meant, he said it means “maybe the job will be done to-morrow, maybe the next day, maybe the day after that, next week, next month or next year. Who cares?” An Irishman in the conversation, Shay Brennan, was then asked if there’s an Irish equivalent. “No. In Ireland we don’t have a word to describe that level of urgency”

There was a Scotsman an Englishman and an Irishman all sitting on a tea – break on a building site the Englishman pipe’s up if my wife put’s Cheese on my sandwich’s again Iam going to kill myself and the Scotsman say’s if my wife put’s Egg on my sandwich’s again I will kill myself and the Irishman say’s if I find Gammon on my sandwich’s again I will kill myself so sure enough the next day all three open up there lunch boxes and find the sandwich’s are all full of Cheese ,Egg and Gammon once again so they all go off to different part’s of the site and kill themselve’s later in the week all three men are being buried and the englishman’s wife say’s if he diddn’t want cheese on his sandwich’s he should have told me and this wouldn’t have happened then the Scotsman’s wife come’s away with the same statement concerning the Egg sandwich’s then the Irishman’s wife pipe’s up I can’t understand this, Paddy make’s his own sandwich’s

WHERE IS MULLIGAN?

FRIDAY NIGHT

JOB DONE

Two Irishmen met and one said to the other, “Have ye seen Mulligan lately, Pat?” Pat said, “Well, I have and I haven’t.” His friend asked, “well what d’ye mean by that?” Pat said, “It’s like this, y’see…I saw a chap who I thought was Mulligan, and he saw a chap that he thought was me. And when we got up to one another…it was neither of us.”

OUR HOUSE

Murphy was selling his house, and put the matter in an agent’s hands. The agent wrote up a sales blurb for the house that made wonderful reading. After Murphy read it, he turned to the agent and asked, “Have I got all you say there?” The agent said, Certainly ye have…Why do you ask? Murphy replied, cancel the sale, the place sounds grand to me

OHH MY GOD!

O’Connell was staggering home with a small Paddy in his back pocket when he slipped and fell heavily. Struggling to his feet, he felt something wet running down his leg. “Please, God,” he implored, “let it be blood!”

TEA BREAK

TRALEE ADVERTISER

Friday 10th February 2016

Late one Friday in Dublin, a policeman spotted a man driving very erratically. He pulled the man over and asked him if he had been drinking that evening. ‘’Aye, so I have. ‘Tis Friday, you know, so me and the lads stopped by the pub where I had six or seven pints. And then there was something called ‘Happy Hour’ and they served these mar-gar-itos which are quite good. I had four or five o’ those. Then I had to drive me friend Mike home and o’ course I had to go in for a couple of Guinness -- couldn’t be rude, ye know. Then I stopped on the way home to get another bottle for later...’’ And the man fumbled around in his coat until he located his bottle of whiskey, which he held up for inspection. The officer sighed, and said, ‘’Sir, I’m afraid I’ll need you to step out of the car and take a breathalyzer test.’’

2FM STAR JENNY GREENE TO ROCK THE ABBEY INN THIS WEEKEND Jenny Greene, one of Ireland’s most successful DJs, presents the biggest dance show on Irish radio every Saturday night on RTE 2fm. Her Electric Disco Tour is the most in-demand club booking in the country. She is appearing with a host of entertainers this Saturday night in House Sounds at the Abbey inn.

In 2009 Jenny released the hugely successful ‘The Electric Disco’ compilation album through EMI records, an unmixed double CD of Jenny’s Electric Disco favorites from her personal record collection. While continuing to host The Electric Disco Jenny also cohosts The Nicky Byrne Show with Jenny Greene weekday mornings on RTE 2FM from 10-1pm

Director: Mel Gibson Starring: Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn, Hugo Weaving

Hacksaw Ridge is the biopic of Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), who fought in World War II. What makes this war

film different to others is that Desmond refuses to bear arms while on the battlefield. The film begins with Desmond growing up in rural Virginia, where violence surrounds him. He is a devoted Christian and refuses to break the commandment “thou shalt not kill”. When the war begins he joins the army as a medic. Desmond soon encounters setbacks and abuse after his army superiors do not share his beliefs. Desmond soon shows his courage and determination to save lives when stationed in Japan. Mel Gibson is back on form as he has been nominated for an Academy Award for his direction. This is a fine effort from him as he makes the film’s war scenes brutal and uncompromising. The film does have a slow start, not a very believable romance and cannot avoid some war movie clichés but overall the film

is an enjoyable one, full of tension. The film ultimately rests on the performance of Andrew Garfield’s “Desmond”. Luckily he gives an amazing, compelling performance as a man standing up for his own beliefs even when the world thinks he is wrong. Garfield received an Oscar nomination for his amazing performance. We see everything through his eyes and feel everything Desmond does thanks to Garfield’s portrayal. The movie is also very inspiring with an uplifting message to follow your heart. Overall I recommend seeing the film for Andrew Garfield’s performance and the realistic battle scenes. Mr Movie’s Fact: Desmond Doss was the first solider to receive the Medal of Honour without ever firing a weapon!

While the cabin, running gear, etc, are expected to mirror those of the 5dr, the estate will boast a luggage-area increase of 100 litres compared with the current model. Among the technology will be Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist as well as the company’s IntelliLink infotainment/OnStar system.

JAMES MAY TO SELL HIS BELOVED 1972 ROLLS-ROYCE CORNICHE - BECAUSE HE IS ALLERGIC TO LEATHER James May has decided to sell his beloved Rolls-Royce following an unfortunate discovery – that he’s allergic to its leather seats.

The Top Gear and Grand Tour star has been aware that his 1972 Corniche has made him itchy since at least 2010, when he wrote that he has “a very thorough shower” after driving it. Now, he’s announced on his Drive Tribes page that he plans to sell the car at auction next month. May bought the Corniche after a long infatuation with the model, something he says started in 1988 when he was a sub-editor for The Engineer. Driving through town, he flashed his headlights to let a silvery-grey Corniche into traffic, and saw a woman’s silk-clad hand waving a gentle thank-you in return. As perfect moments go, it could only have been improved if she’d been smoking a Sobranie in a Bakelite and ivory cigarette holder,” May told the Financial Times. “I’ve wanted a Corniche ever since.”The car, which has a 6.75-litre V8 engine and a theoretical top speed of 120mph, will be auctioned off at the Goodwood Member’s Meeting on March 19.

THIS EXTREMELY SLOW LAMBORGHINI COULD BE YOURS FOR £22,000

Plenty of people daydream of owning a Lamborghini one day, and possibly speeding down to Cannes in it to hobnob with the glitterati. However, this particular model, though every bit as stylish as its supercar brethren, would not be much use for speed-freaks. The hugely rare Lamborghini tractor is being auctioned without reserve this week at The Grand Palais, Paris, and valued at £22,000. The Lamborghini Tractor was founded in the 1940s, and used discarded war materials to produce its first machines. By the following decade it was one of Italy’s largest agricultural equipment manufacturers, and this beautiful specimen illustrates why the brand became so well regarded. The DLA 35 is powered by Lamborghini’s own three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2,200cc and a power output of 36bhp. It was restored in 2016, is finished in the original orange and blue livery and comes fitted with new tyres.” “It has the potential to draw crowds, especially when exhibited alongside the most beautiful supercars sharing the marque’s famous ‘raging bull’ emblem, such as the legendary Miura and Countach.” While the asking price is estimated at around £22,000, interested parties ought to be aware it was previously sold in 2016 for close to £89,000.

The esteemed judging panel includes the one of the doyen’s of Kerry Sports reporters Murt Murphy and yours truly along with Ken and Robin O’Day and I can tell you that it is not easy to pick the winners. The event will consist of 6 stages with 120km to cover for the crews. Richard Talbot is returning as Clerk of the Course and event regulations will be available soon with any queries to go to Richard on 0872680732 or rtalbot@ eircom.net Snows of Sweden to test the crews this weekend: Fans of motorsport will be turning their eyes towards the snow covered roads of Sweden this weekend for Round 2 of the World Rally Championship. Killarney’s Paul Nagle, alongside Kris Meeke in the Citroen, will be hoping for better luck than they had in the opening round in Monte Carlo. WHEELBLASTERS AND WARRIORS TEAM UP IN WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL: The Kingdom Wheelblasters hosted Round 5 of the IWA junior wheelchair blitz at the weekend in John Mitches with over 60 athletes taking part. Children for 5 clubs from around the country – Carlow Swifts, Shannonside Stealers, NI Knights, and Cork’s Rebel Wheelers joined the Kingdom Wheelblasters for a fantastic day of sport. Members of the Garvey’s Tralee Warriors visited the Blitz much to the delight of the young players and Kieran Donaghy’s participation probably gave the home side the advantage over the Steelers in the last quarter of their game! The Wheelblasters were delighted to receive a cheque from the Kerry Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association as they continued their support of the club. The cheque of e3000 was presented to Wheelblasters secretary Tadgh Buckley and Mairead

Hickey by KSBHA members Roy Guerin, Peter Hanley and Don O’Donoghue. The next round of the IWA Blitz will be in Limerick on March 12th followed by Cork on April 2nd. The Wheelblasters are always looking for new members and are open to all who would like to take part in wheelchair sports such as bocca, rugby and volleyball as well as basketball. They club meets in John Mitchels on every second Saturday. WARRIORS WILL LOOK FOR EARLY WIN: With a big crowd expected in Tralee on Saturday evening for the Kerry v Mayo game Garvey’s Tralee Warriors tip off at the Complex against Pyrobel Killester at the earlier time of 5pm. This is a huge game for the Tralee side as the face their nearest challengers Killester who are in 5th place in the SuperLeague, one place below the Warriors. With the play-offs getting closer a win here could be vital as Warriors will face 4 of the top 5 teams in the run in to the end of the season. When the sides met in Dublin it was the home side that shaded it by 3 points but Warriors have only lost once a home and are on a 6 game unbeaten run. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS: The St Brendan’s u11 Academy Boys had a big win over TK Cougars 44-13. The home side dominated matters from early on in Moyderwell Gym and were 9-0 ahead at the end of the first quarter after a strong display at both ends of the court. By the half they were 10 points as TK tried to get back into the game. But St Brendan’s were too strong in the second half and ran out convincing winners. Coach Cyril Wallace was delighted with the display of all his players and they are playing KCYMS in mid -week this week. In other results in the LeeStrand League the u16 Division 3 side went down to TK Vixens 30-59 while they defeated St Bridget’s 47-26. In Boys u14 Division 1 it was KCYMS 34-28 St Brendan’s while in the u14 Division 2 St Brendan’s beat TK Cougars 52-28. UNDERAGE ATHLETES DO WELL: Some of Tralee youngest athletes were in action in the Munster u9-u12 Juvenile Championships in Nenagh. Tralee Harriers Sean Murphy was unlucky to finish just outside the medals taking 4th in the u9 boys Long Jump. Many others put in good performances in what were very big fields. In the New Sports Ireland National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown (and what a magnificent new arena this is) Harriers Rachael Bowler took 4th and 5th places in the Senior Women’s Triple and Long Jumps, equalling her PB of 10.80m in the

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER long jump. KERRY U17 MANAGEMENT TO BE ANNOUNCED: The management of the Kerry u17 SSE Airtricity team will be announced this Monday night at a Delegate Meeting of the KDL. It is expected that last year’s manager Darren Aherne will again juggle his role as RDO for Kerry with involvement in the team. The other members of the management team are rumoured to be coaches with a long involvement in soccer in Kerry. If this come through it will certainly be a strong coaching line-up. Other items on the agenda will be the Over 35 Cup and Reserve Cup draws and all clubs are asked to attend. FAI’S HIGH PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR COMING TO TRALEE: The FAI’s High Performance Director Ruud Doktor and Grass Root Director Tom O’Shea will conduct a Coach Education Workshop in the KDL in Tralee on Monday, February 27th. The Workshop will cover the Player Development Pathway’s 5v5 and 7v7 game formats and will include practical sessions on the Astro Turf and indoors with a Q and A section. The Workshop begins at 6.30pm and coaches must preregistrar with the Schoolboys Girls League secretary Padraig Harnett. TRALEE WIN AGAIN IN RUGBY J-LEAGUE: Tralee Rugby J2 side put in one of their best performances of the season to defeat Crosshaven in Cork. The Tralee side won 16-0 which gives them a great chance to avoid relegation. A win over Castleisland this weekend would almost secure their spot in the Division for next season. STORIES FROM THE WALL 3: DOMINIC’S 50 NOT OUT: Is there another sports person in the county with 50 Munster titles? Glenbeigh’s Dominic Lynch reached that landmark this week when he beat David Moloney in the Munster final of the Masters Singles 40x20 Final. He told the media this week that he was thrilled to reach such a milestone. “When I started playing I never thought I would be still at it and still winning titles. But there is a great sense of achievement to win 50 Munster titles. I won my first ever handball title in 1991, the Munster 40x20 u14 doubles, so it’s a long time ago and I have faced some great players over the years. “I have been lucky to win World titles as well as numerous All Ireland finals but to win 50 in your home province is something very special especially because you know everyone involved and there will never be an easy win in Munster. NEWS FROM THE WALL: In the Juvenile section Glenbeigh’s

Sean Quirke had a very good win in the u14 Boys40x20 Munster Singles semi-final as he defeated Limerick’s Robert McCarthy 15-1, 15-5. Glenbeigh’s Ronan Sheehan lost to Charlie Treen from Waterford in the u13 Singles. The score line saw the Waterford boy winning 15-8, 15-7. The Kerry boys Diarmuid McGillicuddy and Darragh Blennerhasset lost out on the u15 Doubles. They went down to the Waterford pairing of Charlie Treen and Sean O’Sullivan 15-9, 15-7. The Junior B doubles pairing of Pat and Eamon Lacey lost out to Waterford’s Jamie Nagle and Darragh O’Connell 21-12, 21-11. FIXTURES: Broadford, Co Limerick is the venue for two big games this Saturday. At 2pm in the Munster 40x20 Junior A Singles Final Glenbeigh’s Jack Ryan takes on Cork’s Ryan Harkin. At 3pm Dominic Lynch will take on Diarmuid Nash of Clare in the Last 16 of the Munster 40x20 Senior Singles at the same venue. IN THE SQUARE: Kerry footballers did not have much time to celebrate their good win away to Donegal in the first round of the National League. They are back in action this Saturday when they host Mayo in Tralee. It has been a busy start to the year for the Kerry seniors that are available for selection. They will have to line out without defender Shane Enright who suffered from concussion in last week’s game. Throw in in Austin Stack Park is 7pm under the new lights with a big crowd expected. Mayo will be looking for a better performance than they had last week so it should be an interesting hours football. The Kerry hurlers are also in action this weekend as they face Laois on Sunday in Tralee. Throw in is at 2pm for the first round of the Allianz Hurling League Division 1B. Kerry have their participation in the Munster League behind them and this should stand them in good stead for the League campaign where staying in the Division will be their first aim. CBS set for Replay: The dream all Kerry colleges clash in the Corn Ui Mhuiri is still a possibility as St Brendan’s Killarney have reached the decider while the CBS Tralee will have to go to a replay. They will wonder how they did not get past Cork’s Chriost Ri as they were leading in the closing stages of normal and extra time. The sides meet again this Saturday in Ballyvourney and the Tralee boys can certainly get through it if they believe it’s possible – something I am sure coach Mark O’Se will have been working on. KERRY CAMOGIE NOTES: The County Minor team have begun training under the guidance of Joe Walsh, Eoin Lawlor and

They are due to take part in two Blitz’s in Abbotstown with the first on March 11th where Kerry will be in with Donegal, Monaghan, Mayo and Wicklow. The second Blitz is pencilled in for March 26th. The Blitzs will seed teams for the Championship. Finuge /St Senans Aoife Behan will captain the Kerry senior team while Causeway’s Ann Marie Leen will be the vice-captain. We wish them and their squad well as they get ready for their League campaign which begins at home to Tyrone on February 19th. Well done to Causeway’s Sarah Leahy who has won the Best Media Innovation award at the Camogie Association Volunteer and Media Awards. Sarah is currently the Munster PRO and picked up her award in Croke Park. Patrice Diggin and Sara Murphy are in action with UL in the semi-final of the Ashbourne Cup. Hopefully they will progress to the final on Sunday, February 12th where they could be going for two in a row. TRALEE PARNELLS NEWS: The club is encouraging as many coaches ad possible to attend the upcoming coach’s workshops. Workshop 1 is targeting coaches of u14’s, u16’s and minors and is on in the IT Tralee on Saturday February 11th from 10am to 12.30. The workshop for the younger age groups will be on February 18th. Anyone who missed Chris and Carmel Moloney on Nationwide talking about moving from New York to Ballymac and their dairy business can catch up on the RTE Player. Carmel was the Chairperson of the Tralee Camogie Club from many years while Chris was the under 6 manager for many years. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 1,10,20 and 27 and the next jackpot will be e3,700 with the draw in Skelper Quane’s this Sunday night. Watch out for the special promotion for the 20th Anniversary of the St Pats GAA Weekly Lotto. Registration: Friday February 10th is the clubs registration night from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. Forms have already been distributed. The Juvenile Academy players were out in force last weekend and they continue to impress with their skills and dedication to Friday 10th February 2016

training. Seniors: The Seniors continue to train every Tuesday and Friday night and they now know their opponents for Round 1 of the Castleisland Mart Club Championship. St Pat’s will face Skellig Rangers in the Junior Premier Club Championship with the match fixed for April 16th. Rahillys won 3-09 to 0-06. Next up is Austin Stacks. Well done to Jack Savage who became the latest Strand Road man to line out for Kerry and he had a fine outing against Donegal scoring 4 points. The Seniors were drawn to face Kenmare in the opening round of the Club Championship. The minors are back in action this weekend as they are at home to Ardfert on Saturday at 3.30pm. The Junior Blues academy for 2017 starts this Sunday for boys and girls aged 4-10 and it all kicks off at 2pm. There was no winner of the Lotto with the next jackpot being e6,100.
