LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Cycling and the Law Conor is cycling the Wild Atlantic Way as part of a dream holiday cycle. He is cycling on mainly the quiet back roads but occasionally has to run the gauntlet of main road cycling and he is wondering what the rules of the road are that apply to him as a cyclist. Cyclists need to be particularly aware of the rules of the road due to their vulnerability compared to car users. Wearing a bicycle helmet that is correctly fitted and a high visibility outerwear can help significantly as well as having reflectors and lights (legal requirement) on even in daylight as it warns other road users like cars, buses, trucks and motorcyclists that you are there. The legal requirement in relation to lights does say to have them on during lighting up hours but Irish weather would demand daylight use as well at times. It is a jungle out there and the more selfprotection one can put in place the better. Use cycle lanes where possible and if the cycle lanes are not in a good state make the local council aware of it. A cyclist needs to keep their bicycle in good working order, operate their bicycle with due and reasonable consideration to other road users and not be under the influence riding the bicycle!

In addition to lights, your bike must also have, A bell, which can be heard from a reasonable distance, Front and rear brakes and A rear reflector that can be seen from a reasonable distance. When cycling you have to Stop at traffic lights when at pedestrian crossings and zebra crossings at stop signs and yield right of way at yield signs when necessary. Cycling on motorways is illegal. In relation to motorists if they are overtaking a cyclist they should leave 1.5 metres between the car and the bicycle in areas with speed limits above 50km/h. In areas with lower speed limits, drivers should allow one metre when overtaking. Since 12 November 2019, it is an offence to overtake a cyclist dangerously. This offence merits a fixed charge of €120, and 3 penalty points so is some increased protection for cyclists. Cyclists can be subject to fixed charge notices also for a range of road traffic infringements. More information on www.citizensinformation.ie and www.cyclingireland.ie Happy cycling this summer. KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

HELLo everyone! & welcome back to this brand new weekly column, 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world pf social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!

INFLUENCERS. I feel like we can't talk about social media every week without talking about influencers: what they do, how much they are paid, how they can help your business and... how people perceive them. So let's go! -

What is an influencer? Influencers are usually seen as people who use their social media platforms to promote brands, products and services. According to another expert witness, however, the term is an "ambiguous" one that is often used pejoratively, particularly against women. Essentially, influencers are people. Some market themselves as a brand, some prioritize brands they love and some promote any brand. It's modern day marketing, which, is a billion dollar industry. Influencers can be paid anywhere from nothing to multiple six or seven figures for a brand deal. It depends on a lot of things of course, but you might be surprised that it's not always dictated by follower count and, some influencers with 'small' followings can earn more than large ones. This is down to two things, niche and engagement. The right influencer is 100% more helpful to your business or brand than a standard ad, of course you should not just target any influencer for any business, but, done correctly, influencer marketing is an amazing tool that every business should use. Also, I firmly believe every influencer should have rates and be paid. Why? Because they are doing everything for you, the creating the entire concept, shooting, videography, editing, styling, etc. as well as putting their time into something, as an influencer, if you are not charging, you are undermining the entire industry. Now, you may have a pre conceived notion about influencers, thinking they just want 'free stuff' and whatever else, you know what this is? Projection. Like it or not, influencers are what journalists were back in the day. 'Free' incentives are not a new concept, and technically, it is not free. It is a service, it is advertising, it is marketing. You just have to decide who you like to follow, if you don't like someone, don't engage with them online, simple. Lastly, if you are a business and want to implement influencer marketing but have no idea where to start, reach out to me rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com

I hope you are as excited as I am for this new weekly Social Media column! I am excited to help you all become social media savvy and to learn tips and tricks along the way. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in any of my social media service: I offer 1:1 consultation calls, video editing, graphic design and more, you can follow @create.socialmedia on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com to book a call!

KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

Manors beautiful pool is back!

After extensive refurbishment, the swimming pool at Manor West Hotel has re-opened this week! We’ll bet there’s plenty of happy hotel guests and leisure club members now! Well done guys

Third time lucky at Ballyroe! “After postponing twice due to Covid 19, we were so happy to finally get married on our third date, June 24th 2021. Our ceremony took place in St. Brendan’s Church, Ardfert, and we had our reception at Ballyroe Heights Hotel with 25 guests. We had the most perfect day! Planning a wedding from the UK was never going to be easy, but all of our suppliers and vendors were fantastic to deal with. Changing our wedding plans dramatically, not once but twice, was definitely stressful but Patrick, Mike and the team at Ballyroe Heights Hotel couldn’t have been more accommodating. Nothing was an issue and they reassured us every step up the way. They

Friday 16th July 2021

were so professional and made us feel very special on our big day. Our photographer Ciara O’ Donnell from Ballyheigue was incredible. She had such a calm but organised presence - we couldn’t recommend her highly enough. Maura’s Cottage Flowers produced the most beautiful flowers we have ever seen, from bouquets to table pieces, we loved everything! Mario Vaitkus was our videographer and was great fun to have around with the whole wedding party. He is very talented and is also a well-established photographer. Maeve Carey (Make up by Maeve) is a brilliant make up

artist and made the bridal party feel gorgeous alongside hairdresser Noelle Casey (Vogue, Tralee). My hair and makeup stayed perfect all day long, as did my bridesmaids’ despite the elements! Our music at the church was simply stunning by Noelle Barrett-Neziri, Noel McAuliffe and Leonard Casey. Noelle is a very good family friend so it was very special having her impress our guests with her beautiful voice. We really had the most relaxed, magical day and wish we could turn back time and live it all over again!.....Lisa & Danny

A CHAT ON THE STREET WITH... Atom Bike fixers!

This week, I met up for a coffee and a chat with Tomas and Adam, 2 bike crazy guys who also happen to own Atom Bike Fixers, a pretty new mobile bicycle service. Whether you have a roadbike, racing bike or mountain bike, these guys have worked with them all with over 20 years service between them working on bikes in Kerry and abroad. We met up in Corrib Service station as they knew there would be enough parking room for their 2 Atom vans which house the latest equipment to keep your bike on the road. So, guys, why the mobile service? “Well, we found that in a lot of cases, people tend to put their bike repairs, servicing or re-comissioning on the long finger, partly because it involves putting the bike in the boot , back seat , wherever and bringing into a bike repair shop. So we can come and collect your bike , do what

needs to be done and drop in back to you or also we can come out to you directly and service / repair it there and then !” says Tomas And generally what needs to be done? what are the 3 most common bike concerns these days? “No 1 has to be re-commissioning a bike, getting it back roadworthy after sitting away , maybe over the winter or even between events .We give it a good initial service .Second place would be brakes, gears, and drivetrain issues . Maybe the gears are slipping, brakes not effective enough or chain issues” says Adam ...Chain issues, what do you mean by this? Well a chain stretches over time and wears... this wear can effect your sprockets and expensive replacement could be needed. So its important to do preventative maintenance every few thousand km or 6 months ...a €25-€30 service

could save you a lot of money . Its similar to a car really in that respect .No 3 would be tyres, good tyre condition will save you a lot of puncture issues so again a simple regular check will catch any problems in time“ says Tomas. Tell me about cycling at the moment, whats trending in Kerry? So to speak? “Well all the talk will be about the Greenways , which will happen in 2022 but for now as the weather is improving , more people are hitting the bike. We are busy re-commissioning all types of bikes! Also Tralee is being used as part of coastal cycle routes as a base and as a pass-through . Either staying in local accommodation or the local caravan parks, so we pop over to them and keep them on the road,” says Adam. So ye do a same day repair service if someone needs this? “Yes say Tomas , once we have the necessary parts , we can

sort you out the same day “ Ye have a few great summer offers at the moment , tell me more ...Yes we are doing a free bike health check for the month of July , where we give your bike a thorough check and also to celebrate the cycling season, we are offering 10 Tralee Advertiser readers FREE front and rear brake cable replacement. And How do they do this? “simply call us on 087-4442112 , 083-1727503, or if you see us in the vans, call over and mention you saw our ad or this article in The Tralee Advertiser and we’ll organise your free replacement cables “ says Adam In the meantime “Stay safe on the road” says Tomas ....Great advice!

A new Garden? Yes leave it to Corcorans!

“Its becoming more and more popular and can really transform your garden area , big or small “ says Kieran Corcoran , owner of the Corcorans furniture chain of stores . Artificial grass is what he is talking about. “The range is very extensive and we have something to suit all pockets ...it really can transform an area in your home , or business . It gives a new lease of life to a garden area especially if you have younger children as its a very safe surface for children to play on. We are delighted with the feedback from our customers “

DONNAGH SUGRUE, BALLYMCELLIGOT “We’ve gotten such great use out of the artificial grass that Corcoran’s supplied us with. It’s made our life so much easier than having to spend all summer trying to pull the garden together. We had it installed ourselves and it was so easy to do which just sweetened the deal. The team were fantastic to work with, down to telling us the exact amount we’d need and what we’d need to do once we got it home. Really, really pleased with it! Friday 16th July 2021

MARY REILL, KILLARNEY “I was a bit sceptical at first that it wouldn’t look realistic enough but once it had settled for a few days, you would never guess it wasn’t a real lawn. I was driven mad with all the brown patches in the lawn last year so I’m pleased out now that it’s one thing off the list and I can enjoy the little bit of warm weather left in the back garden.”

Ryanair To Launch €19.99 Dublin – Kerry Route Ryanair, Ireland’s favourite airline this week announced that it would launch a commercial, unsubsidised, flight schedule on the Dublin – Kerry route commencing on Wed 28th July without any subvention or subsidy under the Irish Government’s PSO Scheme. This commercial route will save the taxpayer almost €4m p.a. in PSO subsidies, which were previously wasted on failed operations provided by Stobart Air.

Friday 16th July 2021

This route will be served by one of Ryanair’s Boeing 737 800 aircraft, and will start on Wed 28th July, with 1 daily rotation, rising to a double daily (morning & evening) service from Wed 1st Sept delivering over 5,000 seats per week. Ryanair will work closely with its partners at Kerry and Dublin airports to minimise costs, so that this commercial service between Dublin and Kerry can survive and thrive without the need for Government PSO subsidies, which have failed to deliver a sustainable service in recent years. Fares on this Dublin – Kerry route will start from €19.99 one way, and Ryanair hopes

that by providing a double daily schedule on B737 aircraft this Autumn, that Ryanair’s low fares can stimulate increased passenger traffic to/ from Kerry Airport, building on the success of Ryanair’s international flights from Kerry to London, Manchester, Frankfurt, Alicante and Faro. Ryanair’s CEO Eddie Wilson said: “Ryanair’s double daily service between Dublin and Kerry will quadruple the number of seats on the Kerry – Dublin route to over 5,000 per week. To make this commercial service viable, we will need lower costs at Kerry and Dublin airports as recommended by the Government’s Aviation Task Force, which still remains unactioned by Transport Minister Eamon Ryan more than 12 months after it was submitted to

Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

him (10 July 2020) by his own Aviation Taskforce. Minister Ryan’s failure to take any action to promote air travel recovery has led to Ireland being the most damaged aviation market in Europe as evidenced by this week’s Eurocontrol statistics (attached). Other Island Nations like Malta and Cyprus have vastly outperformed Ireland, which remains “Paddy last”. These new flights mean that Dublin passengers can readily access Kerry for short breaks, and the people of Kerry can access Dublin for business, for leisure, and also to make flight connections through Dublin Airport. We will be offering the Kerry football team free flights to Dublin in late August, where we hope they will meet (and beat) Dublin in this year’s All Ireland Final”. TRALEE ADVERTISER

HELLO YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!

This week I am going to talk about being happy in yourself.

GUILT IS NOT THE VIBE. Right, this week I want to talk about feeling guilty, especially self guilt. As a Taurus, and someone who is very self aware, I don't tend to feel guilty for putting myself first, but I know so so many people do. Putting yourself first and giving yourself what you need is not selfish and you should never feel guilty for that. We tend to compare our lives and journeys to other people's which leads us to feel like we're not enough, not doing enough or not being enough, which then leads to guilt for not doing the things we think we should be doing. We think we should always be productive whether that's working, exercising, socialising, upskilling, earning more, doing more, being more, so instead of prioritizing our needs and what we want to strive for, we prioritize keeping up appearances. We feel guilty if we sleep in, have a day of rest, take an hour to do our skincare or spend the day doing 'nothing', when in reality, doing nothing is one of the best things you can do to quiet your busy mind. You don't have to be always going, always rushing and never making time for yourself. You are just as important as every other aspect of your life, remember that. When you do things without guilt you have more self respect.

Has this page sparked something inside of you? Are you dying to unlock the most confident version of yourself? Well... I do 1:1 online confidence coaching where you can work with me on your confidence for 8 weeks. if you are interested in Confidence Coaching, you can follow @theconfidencegame on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com For more information on what I do or if you are interested in Confidence Coaching, you can follow @theconfidencegame on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com for more information about 1:1 coaching, group coaching or masterclasses!

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !

AHHHH, OLD ROMANCE . . .

Janet was lying in bed one night. Art was falling asleep, but Janet was in a romantic mood and wanted to talk. She said: “You used to hold my hand when we were courting.” Wearily he reached across, held her hand for a second and tried to get back to sleep. A few moments later she said: “Then you used to kiss me.

MY MARRIAGE IS OVER. I loved my wife Lorraine in the beginning, but for the longest time I’ve had a crush on my friend ClaireLee Robins, who I know feels the same way about me. Eventually Lorraine found out about my secretive feelings, and just like that, she packed her bags and left. I do feel bad about it all.

Mildly irritated, he reached across, gave her a peck on the cheek and settled down to sleep. Thirty seconds later she said: “Then you used to bite my neck.”

But then I realised; I can see Claire-Lee now Lorraine has gone.

Angrily, Art threw back the bed clothes and got out of bed. “Where are you going?” Janet asked. “To get my teeth!”

a couple upstairs in the bedroom . He tied up the woman and at gun-point asked the man to handover all their money and jewellery.

A GERMAN LIFESAVER CARRIES A DOG THAT NEARLY DROWNED FROM THE BEACH... He plopped it down on the sand and did CPR, as the dog’s owner watched nervously from aside. The dog spat out water and stood up— the lifesaver saved it. “Oh my goodness, thank you so much for saving my dog!” the owner said, “Are you a vet?” “Vet? VET???” the German excalimed, “I’M LITERALLY SOAKING!”

WHY DIDNT THE LIFEGUARD SAVE THE DROWNING HIPPY? Because he was to far out man

A THIEF ENTERED A HOUSE ONE MID-AFTERNOON TO FIND...

The man started sobbing and said, “Brother, take anything you want. But please, untie the rope and let her go.” The thief replied, “You must really love your wife, having no regard for your own safety.” The man said, “No, she’s my neighbour’s wife. Mine will be back shortly!”

MY WIFE SAID. “ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME?” She turned around and walked away. I stared at her blankly and thought “that’s an odd way to start a conversation”

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2021

Veggie Tops? Now here’s something you didnt know! You probably know that cooking from scratch can produce a lot of waste. But what if it didn’t need to be that way? Many of the veggies you already eat boast edible, tasty tops that totally have a place on your plate. To get the most out of your produce, check out these edible vegetable tops. BEET GREENS—a.k.a. the pink stems and green leaves on top of beetroot—are deliciously edible. They also contain potassium and magnesium, which are crucial for keeping your muscles and nerves in top shape. Eat them just like any other leafy green: mixed in salads blended in smoothies or salted with garlic for a simple side dish. The next time you cook fresh carrots, hold on to those carrot tops. they are completely edible and loaded with vitamins. Case in point. carrot greens have beta-carotene, an antioxidant that turns to vitamin A in the body. Eat raw carrot tops in a salad or sandwich, or toss them in your favorite stir fry

RADISH LEAVES If you’re a fan of radish you’ll love the peppery flavor of radish leaves. What’s more, they offer vitamin C, protein, and calcium,. Most folks use radish tops to make pesto but you can also cook them like other greens (which tames their sharp taste) Like radish leaves, turnip tops have a peppery bite, but they become milder once cooked. the leafy tops are rich in vitamin A, nutrient essential for healthy eyes and immunity. Add them to stews soups, or even casserole. Save those celery leaves you guys. , celery tops have a stronger taste than celery itself, so you may be missing out on a ton a flavor. celery leaves have antioxidants, which are key for fighting oxidative stress. Toss them in a smoothie or use them as an herb—they kind of look like parsley, after all. You can also add celery leaves to chilli stew, or even pasta

Let me know if you enjoyed them and we will continue our healthy eating next week and remember to send your quetions to: askchefnoel@hotmail.com

T RQ U I N G CINA R SAND ! KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS! 22 O PREMIUM ADVERTISING KEEP YOUR BUSINESS TRALEE LIMP MODE: WHAT CAUSES IT AND HOW TO FIX IT

If your car suddenly loses power and warning lights on your dashboard come on, it’s likely your car has entered ‘limp mode’. In the event this happens, it’s important to understand why it’s occurred, what you should do when it happens and how you can remedy the issue. What is limp mode? Limp mode, also known as ‘limp home mode’, is designed to protect the car by minimising damage when a fault is detected. An onboard control unit recognises when there’s a fault and activates limp mode as a security protocol, resulting in the engine only providing enough power to get the car to a safe location. What causes limp mode? Thanks to lots of clever sensors that are linked to your car’s mechanical and electrical components, a car’s ECU (electronic control unit) will detect when a problem has occurred and trigger the limp mode safety feature if necessary. Likely causes for your car entering limp mode range from faulty engine sensors and wiring to low fluid levels, such as engine coolant and oil. More serious issues include gearbox and clutch malfunctions or brake problems. How do you know if your car is in limp mode? When limp mode is activated, the least important features in your car, such as air conditioning and the stereo, will switch off and the ‘check engine light’ will appear on your dashboard. The most notable change, however, will be a sudden reduction in the car’s speed and, usually, a limit to the number of gears available (usually up to third gear). This is to prevent further damage to the car and potentially prevent an accident that could happen as a result of the fault How fast does a car go in limp mode? Limp mode will likely reduce your maximum speed to anywhere between 35 and 45mph, and revs (RPM) will be limited to 2,000 or 3,000. This is to allow you to continue driving at a safe speed until you’re able to stop and seek help. As mentioned above, it’s likely you won’t be able to shift above third gear. What do I do if my car goes into limp mode? If you notice that your car has gone into limp mode, keep calm and focus on getting your car home or to a safe place. Where exactly you decide to stop will depend on distances, how the car is behaving and how far you feel comfortable to drive it. How do I get my car out of limp mode? When you’ve reached a safe place, you should turn off your engine and ignition. If you believe the issue was a temporary glitch, or simply want to check if it’s corrected itself, it’s recommended that you wait 10 to 20 seconds before switching your ignition back on and turning the engine over. If the warning lights have disappeared and the car appears to be performing as it should, then it’s likely that limp mode was the result of a faulty sensor. It’s still important to have your car checked over by a mechanic to ensure nothing is amiss and to prevent the car from unnecessarily entering limp mode again. If, however, your vehicle doesn’t reset, especially if you’re on the road side, you should call for roadside assistance. How much does it cost to fix limp mode? The cost of repairing your car will vary depending on what’s causing it to enter limp mode. More often than not, your car will stop going into limp mode when a faulty part is replaced, electrical wiring or connections are replaced or fixed, or critical fluids are topped up. Keep in mind that if your car keeps entering limp mode and you keep ignoring it, you could potentially be doing further damage and thus adding to the final repair bill.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR PENALTIES A LOTTERY THAT ENGLAND CAN’T SEEM TO WIN: Firstly Roy Keane 100% right when he said that no player who steps up to take a penalty should suffer any ridicule if the miss. We all know at this stage what happened on Sunday night as England lost out in the UEFA 2020 final to Italy on penalties. Scoring 2 from 5 was never going to be enough despite the saves from Jordan Pickford. And of course as if the three players who missed didn’t suffer enough heartache on the Wembley pitch they had to endure torrents of on-line abuse. Now not all the abuse was from England fans as computer experts have found out but a lot of it was. That is if you can call those who resorted to this ‘fans’. It is also possible some of the abuse from certain countries was a result of losing bets. And before we smugly sit back and shake our heads there were plenty of Irish people who cheered as the England players missed. When many Irish people think about penalty shoot-outs we automatically think of Italy 90 and the win over Bulgaria. However conveniently forget the World Cup 2002 where we lost out to Spain in a penalty shoot-out that was over shadowed by a certain exit from the Irish squad. For the record Matt Holland, David Connolly and Kevin Kilbane all missed as Spain went onto the World Cup quarter final. I don’t think any of the suffered anything more than the natural disappointment of missing the kick and missing out on progressing to the Last 8. And we also missed out last year when we lost to Slovakia in a penalty spot that cost us the chance of going to the Euro’s. Alan Browne and Matt Doherty missed but if they walked down any street in Ireland or visited any club I doubt these misses would be mentioned. England had also won two recent penalty shoot-outs but obviously in a much less stressed situation that the weekends game. For some reason the games they lost on penalty shootouts are always to the front of the England psyche and the media doesn’t help. How often in the run up to the Euros did we see the penalty shootout where Garret Southgate missed his kick. And speaking of the England manager hopefully he is gone on holidays or is in his holiday home as this will be a tough week for him in particular but also his staff. And it will be even tougher for a long time for the players and not just those who missed the penalties. As Ronnie Whealan said on commentary every player will be thinking that they didn’t do enough in the biggest game of their careers. From Southgates point of view it is obvious he over though the penalty shootout – which is easy to say in hindsight. He picked the 5 kickers and Friday 16th July 2021

the order they took them in. Usually a manager waits and sees what players want to take the kicks. But England did more than practice penalties, they practiced walking up to the ball and what would they be thinking about. And while it is fine to count the steps in your walk up in training doing it in the heat of battle in front of 60,000+ and millions on TV is something that can never be replicated in training. Add to that two of the takers were only just on the field and if Italy had held the ball for around two minutes Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho would not have gotten on the field. So where would that have left Southgate’s plans? Also when did Bukayo Saka know he was taking the last penalty? How long was he going over the kick in his head and trying to beat the 6ft5” Italian keeper? These are the things that the English players and managers will be going over for a few weeks to come. But it won’t change the outcome. The ‘What If’s will be swirling around in their heads. They know they will have to answer the questions and live with the miss for many years to come. But in their favour they are young, in the majority, and the next World Cup campaign will begin in a few months. The Wheel will begin again and who knows where this one will bring them? The one big wish is that our Boys in Green will be there the next time round!! BIG WEEKEND FOR THE MINOR FOOTBALLERS AND THE SENIOR HURLERS: The Kerry minors of 2020 will be hoping to follow up on their excellent win over Roscommon by winning the Electric Ireland All Ireland Minor title when they take on Derry this Sunday in Bord Na Mona O’Connor Park in Tullamore. It is a pity these players won’t get their day out in Croke Park but that will not be on their minds this week as they build up to what will be a very tough game. The Kerry hurlers have qualified for the Joe McDonagh final by the narrowest of margins. Despite going down to Meath by 4 points a last minute score from Padriag Boyle saw them end level on scoring difference with Derry but the Kingdom progress to take on Westmeath thanks to scoring one more goal than Down. There was no joy for the Kerry u20 hurlers who went down 2-20 to 0-15 to Clare in the Munster quarter final. The Kerry players put in a big second half effort and outscored their opponents in the second half. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: Well done to all the u7’s, 8’s and 9’s for another great weekend of training at the Academy and they are all out again on Sunday. The u11’s continue their Go Games phase 1 while the under 12’s and 13’s both put up good performances

against Firies in the Lee Strand County League. The 15’s played in a top of the table clash with Keel with the game ending 1-09 each. They played Spa in the League semi-final in mid-week. The 15 B’s finished their group games with a hard won win over Kilcummin. They will play Dr Crokes B in the League semi-final. PARNELL’S NEWS: There was a great turn-out for the u7’s training sessions. A number of new players were showing their skills. The 12 Girls had a great win in round two over Cillard while the club was delighted to see Abbie Canty, Anna Chute, Anna O’Sullivan, Caoilainn Culloo and Rachel Sargent who played with the Kerry 14’s. They went down to a strong Tipperary side but the girls did themselves proud. The club attended the Munster Camogie 7’s in Limerick with two under 17’s and two over 17’s teams representing Parnells. A Kevin Hannafin goal was vital in Parnells 1-10 to 0-09 points win. The Junior hurlers drew with Duagh 1-10 to 0-13. The club is ready for its summer camp which begins next Monday in Caherslee at 10am with a small few places still available. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The senior teams are in County League action this weekend with the senior team away to An Ghaeltacht and the Division 5 side at home to Sneem/ Derrynane. In the minor Central League the side went down 3-07 to 5-10. In the Girls section the 12’s went down to John Mitchels while the u13’s defeated St Kierans in the semi- final of the District Championship. The 14’s girls defeated Laune Rangers in Round 4 but then went down to Beale in Round 5. The u16 Girls defeated Austin Stacks 6-05 to 4-07 and will travel to Corca Dhuibhne is Round 5. The minor ladies had a big win over Dingle 8-10 to 2-07. The senior ladies lost out to Ballymacelligott. There was some very exciting action in the GO Games for the younger age groups. The u13’s finished Phase 1 of the County League with a 1 point win over Asdee/Bally/Clounmacon to end Phase 1 of the County League. There was no winner of the Jackpot from the numbers drawn 6,12, 18 and 31 and the next jackpot with the next jackpot being e9200. KERRY GIRL MAKES IRISH U16 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SQUAD: There was great news for St Paul’s Killarney Leah McMahon who has made the final squad of 12 for the FIBA U16 European Challengers 2021 that will take place in Slovakia from August 9th to 16’s. SOCCER SHORTS: Well done to St Brendan’s Park 16’s who won the Kerry Schoolboys Girls Summer Shield defeating Inter Kenmare 2-0 after extra time. On the EA Sports League of Ireland front the Kerry 14’s have a busy week. The played Treaty United in mid-week and on Saturday take on Cobh Ramblers in Kenmare. The Kerry 17’s are at home to Cabinteely on Saturday at 2pm while the 19’s go to Bray Wanderers on Sunday.

Kerry Motorsport News is reporting that Motorsport Ireland is due to make a statement on the entry fees and budget issues that have delayed the potential return of rallying. Club members were angry at the imposed increase in fees – for example a nine-stage national style event would now cost e1000 as opposed to e750 in pre Covid times. NO JOY FOR COUNTY KERRY CRICKETERS: There was no joy for the Kerry cricketers last weekend as the Kerry 1st went down to Midleton 1st by 32 runs, the Kerry 2nds lost out to Limerick 2nds by 2 wickets, Kerry 4 went down to Limerick 6 while the Kerry 3rds game against Lismore was abandoned. This Saturday the Kerry 2nds are away to Midleton 2nds, the 4th X1 play Limerick 5th in Adare while on Sunday in the Premier Division the Co Kerry 1st X1 are at home to Cork Harlequins while in Munster Division 2 T20 League Kerry 3rd X1 go to Adare to take on Limerick 3rd X1. ON THE GREENS PITCH & PUTT NEWS: Tralee and Newmarket were the centres of the action last weekend with the County Strokeplay Championships. In the Juniors the Cork course crowned its first County champions with Allan Dugdale taking a 2 shot victory over Listowel’s Bobby McCarron. It was a good weekend for Bobby as he won the Ardnacrusha Junior Scratch Cup the day before. Tralee’s Keith O’Brien was second in their Intermediate section. It was a weekend of runner up spots for Tralee as Darren Goodall took the Senior runners up spot behind Deerpark’s Damien Fleming. In the Intermediate competition Tralee’s Pa Fitzgibbon finished just one shot behind the winner Tom O’Connor from Listowel. It was a Deerpark family affair in the Ladies County Championship as Margaret C Looney got the better of her sister-in-law Margaret B Looney. In the u16’s on the Tralee course local knowledge served Mark O’Regan well as he birdied the last two holes to take the title by two shots from Deerpark’s Brian McCarthy. Tralee was also celebrating a win in the Girls where the Moynihan sisters took the top two spots with Ella just holding off Sophie. This week the action is in Deerpark with the National Adult Matchplay qualifiers on Sunday from 8.30am. TRALEE GOLF CLUB: The winner of the CCs Dry Cleaners MC 6 was David Hennebery from Jonathan Kelly second and Jonathan Goodall third. The Gross went to Fergal O’Sullivan with the Divisional prizes going to Domo Lyne, Philip O’Sullivan, Denis Reen and Michael Brosnan. In the Ladies section the winner of 18 hole Waltz sponsored by FitzForeFitness were Brid Halloran, Mary Savage and Anita Lynch with Anne Kerins, Geraldine Sheehy and Mary Mullins second. In the 18 hole stableford sponsored by Adams Garage Angela Enright took the win with Fionnuala Mann second and Brid Halloran third while Mary Savage took the Best Gross prize.
