SPA AND FENIT 6TH CLASS PUPILS PRESENTED WITH YOUNG PTAA MEMBERSHIP Sixth Class pupils from Spa and Fenit National Schools, Tralee, were enrolled as Young Pioneers in glorious sunshine at their schools on Tuesday morning. The young members were presented with their pioneer pins and certificates of membership by Mark O Brien and Billy Ryle of Spa Parish PTAA Centre.
Billy Ryle welcomed the pupils as members of Spa Parish PTAA Centre. As Young Pioneers, he said, they will enjoy growing up during the next six years protected from the pit falls of underage drinking. Some of them will become adult members of the PTAA when they reach 18 years of age while others will go on to be responsible social drinkers. Being a Young Pioneer, he said, means you can progress safely through the teenage years and embrace all that adolescence has to offer. He said that the young pioneers can do well at their studies and take part in sport and all the other activities that young people enjoy free from the distraction of alcohol. As they head off to college, he said they can decide for themselves, at age 18, to become an Adult Pioneer, which is a pledge to refrain from alcohol for life, or to become a social drinker. The PTAA promotes abstinence, temperance and moderation in the use of alcohol. The vast majority of people, who use alcohol, are social drinkers who relax with a glass of wine or a pint with friends. It is only when people drink to excess that a problem arises he added. Mark O Brien wished the pupils the best of luck as they prepare for second level education in September. He said he looked forward to meeting the Young Pioneers at many of the activities of Spa Parish Centre over the next few years.

TECHNOLOGY CORNER Billy O Meara (HRI Services)
Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology Question:
My laptop is slow how can I speed it up ?
It's only natural that your Laptop should get slower as it gets older. Like your house, your computer can benefit from a thorough spring clean. Over time, laptops and PCs get clogged up with temporary internet files, unused software and other digital debris. Make sure all your software is up to date. This includes web browsers, applications, drivers for devices such as printers and, most importantly security software. Defrag your hard drive, uninstall software the you no longer use. Disable some startup programs by clicking Start, then type msconfig in the search bar and press Enter. In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab you will see what programs are starting. But if you are unsure what the program is don’t disable it Question:
What is the difference in Solid state hard drives and normal ones?
Standard HDD drives contain multiple disks called platters, which are covered in a magnetic coating and then rotated at high speed. Drive heads then move across the platters, changing the magnetisation of the material beneath to record data, or reading its state to return the stored information. While solid state drive is made up of memory chips no moving parts they are more expensive than standard drives. If you upgrade to a solid state drive, you'll then benefit from faster boot times, and a general speed boost as Windows components are loaded more quickly

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... TRALEE CREDIT UNION ANNOUNCE ITS DEBIT CARD TO MEMBERS
History in the making for Tralee Credit Union as their members become the first to have access to a fully functional Debit Card designed and developed specifically for credit unions. Tralee Credit Union along with ten other credit unions announced today the arrival of their long awaited Debit Mastercard. The card is supported by MasterCard and is accepted anywhere the MasterCard logo is displayed worldwide. This service means that Tralee Credit Union members can now avail of full banking services from its credit union. The new Debit MasterCard facilitates contactless payments and supports fully electronically enabled accounts, on-line access and transaction facilities, and a mobile app for managing finances on the go. Roll-out to members will begin the middle of June. This is the first time a Debit Card has been produced, developed and controlled by a group of credit unions for their members. Speaking to Fintan Ryan, CEO Tralee Credit Union and Chairman DCG Card Services “thanks to the vision and determination of Tralee Credit Union’s Board of Directors we are delighted to bring this valuable new service to our members. A recent REBO (Credit Union Restructuring Board) Survey revealed that 84% of credit union members wanted access to a Debit Card from their Credit Union. Tralee Credit Union came together with ten other credit unions to address this demand. We had one vision, one purpose, to deliver a fully functional debit card to our members. We formed a not-for profit organisation DCG Card Services and are proud of the legacy this new service will create and proud to be a pioneer in making it happen. We are delighted to now offer complete and comprehensive banking services for our members. We can strengthen our relationship with our members and they at last can use Tralee Credit Union as their primary financial service provider, their one stop shop for all their everyday banking needs. Members can have their income paid directly to their credit union Access Account and use their debit card to purchase goods in store and online and at any ATM anywhere in the world. They can set up direct debits, pay bills and electronically transfer funds online and on their phone using our Mobile App, the complete banking service package”. For further information please visit Tralee Credit Union website www.traleecu.ie or call in to their offices in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin. NATIONAL BIKE WEEK RETURNS TO KERRY THIS JUNE WHERE WILL YOUR BIKE TAKE YOU? National Bike Week, which takes place annually, returns to Kerry this summer from Saturday, 11th June to Sunday, 19th June. Enjoy eight days on two wheels celebrating and promoting all that is great about cycling. There are a wide range of events taking place throughout Co. Kerry, all of which are organised by local authorities, community initiatives and cycling groups from throughout Kerry. For a full list of events and to join in a cycling adventure this June, log onto www.bikeweek.ie.
Bike Week not only promotes the leisure and fun aspects of cycling as a family, with friends, to sightsee…it also highlights why it is important to choose cycling as a means to commute to work, to do the crèche or school run or to run errands. Cycling is environmentally friendly, as it cuts congestion and has zero emissions, and it is also much lower in cost than travelling by public transport or a car. If you spend as little as €1.20 daily on travel (bus fare, Luas fare or petrol) you can save €200 a year by switching to a bike! Commuting by bike to work, college, school or just to go to the shops, is a much faster way to travel. SmarterTravel.ie estimates that approximately 400,000 people in Ireland travel 4 kilometres or less to work or school or college by car every day – distances that could easily be cycled. Cycling is the fastest mode of transport for journeys of 6 kilometres or less in urban areas; It is also a great solution to beating traffic congestion in our towns and cities imagine no more sitting in traffic jams!. Cycling as an everyday pursuit is a healthy way to travel too and it has many physical benefits. Studies have shown that cycling is one of the most efficient ways to lose weight. And, cyclists who cycle regularly are seen to be on the same fitness level to those ten years younger. Also, three hours of cycling per week can reduce the risk of heart disease by 50%! There are also mental health benefits derived from cycling. Bike Week is a fun-filled family event, as well as catering for cycling enthusiasts. There is quite literally something for all ages and ability, from free bike checks, fun cycles, lunchtime city rides, school cycling races bikes festivals and much much more, Bike Week has something for everyone. Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, Bike Week is coordinated at a national level by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: TERMINATING A TENANCY Question Our landlord phoned to ask us to leave the house we have rented for the last three years because he plans to sell the house. Do we have to accept this? Answer As you have been renting the house for three years, you have what is called a “Part 4 tenancy”, which gives you certain rights. The landlord can only end your tenancy for certain specified reasons. An intention to sell the property within three months counts as a valid reason. However, a phone call is not a valid form of notice. You must get a written notice of termination, signed and dated, stating the reason for termination and giving you the proper period of notice, which, in your case, as you have rented for three years, is 12 weeks (84 days). When a landlord plans to sell the property, the notice of termination must include a statement that he intends to sell the property within three months after the tenancy ends. The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) publishes sample notices of termination with the detailed information that is required in various situations. In the case of a planned sale, the wording of the required statement is: “The reason for the termination of the tenancy is due to the fact that the landlord intends to sell the dwelling, for full consideration, within three months after the termination of the tenancy”. Your landlord must also make a statutory declaration that he intends to enter into an enforceable agreement to sell his full interest in the house. (A statutory declaration is a solemn statement, which must be signed in the presence of someone who is authorised to witness statutory declarations – such as a practising solicitor, a Peace Commissioner, a notary public or a Commissioner for Oaths.) The RTB’s sample notice of termination for a landlord planning to sell contains sample wording for this statutory declaration, which you should receive along with the notice of termination. If your landlord is found to have evicted you illegally, he may be required to pay you substantial damages. Further information is available from the Citizens Information Centre below.

Bexblah Beauty This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens
Hello my beautiful friends! This week at Bexblah Beauty we’re talking all things Face Masks. With the changing weather it’s extremely important to take extra good care of our skin. I know we all love going to a beauticians for a fab facial but I love doing at home face masks also. They’re more affordable for one, and, provided you get something of good quality, they can work wonders for the skin! I have both a ‘splurge’ and a ‘save’ face mask for you all this week… Trust me they’re both fab! Side note, I know we all want lovely tanned faces but I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing AT LEAST SPF 30 on your face every day. Ain’t nobody got time for premature ageing or sun damage. Remember everyone, the phrase “It’s gotta get worse before it gets better” applies when doing facemasks. Facials and masks, while intended to treat and beautify skin, are not a quick fix solution. Facials, detox masks and acne masks are meant to clean deep down in your skin and get rid of the gunk and junk that lies deep in your pores. There is supposedly ‘years’ of oil, makeup, buildup and sunscreen that can be hiding in your 7 layers of skin and detoxifying face masks for acne pull that buildup to the surface in order to improve and heal skin. Once your skin has been cleaned deep and the junk underneath is gone, your skin will begin to heal and with continued use, you will begin to see the results you were hoping for all along! So don’t worry if after your face mask you breakout a bit, IT’S NORMAL!
TRILOGY MINERAL RADIANCE MASK €23.95
This face mask is designed to ‘Energise, Purify & Deeply Cleanse’. The sound of that makes this instantly appealing to me, who doesn’t want skin that looks energised and pure? This mask comes in a jar with a cute little spatula to apply the mask with, which is great for gals like me who rock the fake nails! The first time I used this mask, yes I broke out, but I was expecting it, sure it says it deeply cleanses your skin. Frankly, I would have been disappointed if my skin didn’t break out. My skin did feel amazing after the initial breakout, and the more I’ve used the mask, the better my skin is looking. I love love love this mask. Also, there’s no time limit, you can leave this on as long as you want, you can even sleep in it, which I have done & highly recommend. Mineral-rich kaolin clay delivers instant radiance with a deep cleansing action. Native New Zealand pohutukawa extract helps tone and regenerate while emollient oils rosehip and evening primrose nourish and hydrate. How much is this amazing mask you ask? €23.95!! This is why I love Trilogy, you get an amazing, natural, organic product for a more than reasonable price. And yes, one jar will last you a good while, a little goes a long way with this product!
DEAD SEA MAGIK DELICATE BOOSTING MASK €8.95
This mask is perfect for those of you whose skin has been dried out by the recent warm weather or for sensitive skin. This mask is gentle enough for the most dry and sensitive skins, Delicate Boosting Mask is a smooth, and creamy hydrating mask containing Dead, Sea Mud. I feel like I can use this on my skin more frequently than other face masks due to that fact that it is so gentle on my skin. This is perfect for all you guys and gals on a budget as a tube, which you’ll get many applications from, will only set you back an amazing €8.95! What I love about the brand Dead Sea Magik is the whole ‘Home Spa’ feel that the products give, without paying Spa prices!
Stay Gorge,
Bexblah. Attention BexBlah Readers!

Bexblah Fitness! Hello my strong friends! I hope you’re all having a great week. I know every week I talk about how it’s great to be fit and healthy and have the perfect legs, bum, stomach etc... And it is, in a perfect world. But this week I’m going to focus on another aspect of your health that it’s important to take care of, your mental health and being happy in yourself. Especially at this time of year, there is huge focus on looking your best around Christmas time. Like everyone, I’m not happy 24/7. I have struggled with body issues, image issues and everything in between. I have finished school only to come out of two separate college courses, because I wasn’t happy in either of them, so unhappy that I let it affect my mental health. I have good and bad days, just like everyone else. Most of the time I try to stay positive, a positive mindset always helps. When you are stuck in something in life that makes you that unhappy, be it a job, living situation, college course, or

relationship, it is always best to take a step back and put you and your mental health first. Because if you don’t, trust me, nobody else is going to do it for you. Talk about it. It doesn’t matter to who, just let someone else know how you’re feeling. You
never know they might have the perfect solution, or at least they might make you feel a bit better. Exercise, even if it’s just going for a walk. It helps clear your head and overall you’ll feel better.
opinions. It’s your life and if something is upsetting you, it’s ok to be upset. Once you know ways in which you can cheer yourself up again. For any of you out there feeling overwhelmed because you don’t know what to do with your life or you can’t pick a college course or you’re confused as to what to do by a situation, remember, no one has all the answers. Not even the most intelligent successful person you know. Everyone just takes it one day at a time. So don’t feel anxious or pressured into doing anything if you feel it’s not for you. It’s your life, make a conscious decision to be the happiest, most positive person you can be. Try not to sweat the small stuff!
If you are upset about anything, don’t try hide it or play it down because of someone else’s

IT’S ONLY A JOKE A BOY GOES INTO CONFESSION...
The boy tells the priest, “Father I’m afraid I’ve been with a loose girl.” “Hmm, ok son, what was the girls name?” “Oh I can’t say.” “Was it Mary Jane?” “No Father.” “Adalina Mozarelli?” “My lips are sealed.” “How about Cindy King” “I can never say.” “Oh come on boy, I’ll find out soon enough. It was Tina King wasn’t it!?” “No.” “It has to be Tracy Cummings though!” “Father I will never tell you.” “Ok fine, but for your sin you can’t be alter boy for four months.” “Ok, Father” The boy leaves and his friend asks, “So what’d you get?” The boy responds, “Five good leads, and a four month vacation!”
A LITTLE OLD LADY...
A little old lady was walking down the street dragging two large plastic garbage bags behind her. One of the bags was ripped and every once in a while a $20 fell out onto the sidewalk. Noticing this, a policeman stopped her, and said, “Ma’am, there are $20 bills falling out of that bag.” “Oh, really? Darn it!” said the little old lady. “I’d better go back and see if I can find them. Thanks for telling me officer. “Well, now, not so fast,” said the cop.“Where did you get all that money? You didn’t steal it, did you?” “Oh, no, no”, said the old lady. “You see, my back yard is right next to a Golf course. A lot of Golfers come and pee through a knot hole in my fence, right into my flower Garden. It used to really tick me off. Kills the flowers, you know. Then I thought, ‘why not make the best of it? So, now, I stand behind the fence by the knot hole, real quiet, with my hedge clippers. Every time some guy sticks his thing through my fence, I surprise him with the clippers and say, ‘O.K., buddy! Give me $20, or off it comes.’ “Well, that seems only fair,” said the cop, laughing. “OK. Good luck! Oh, by the way, what’s in the other bag?” She old lady said.... “well,Not everybody pays.”

TEXAS SHERIFFS DEPUTY EXAM
A man in Texas looking to join the Frio County Sheriffs Dept. was being interviewed. The Sergeant doing the interview says, “Your qualifications look good, but there’s an attitude suitability test you must pass before you can be accepted.” Then, sliding a Smith and Wesson 45 pistol across the desk, he says to the man, “Take this pistol; go out and shoot six illegal aliens, six meth dealers, six Muslim extremists, six ‘Progressive Liberal’ democrats, and a rabbit.” “Why the rabbit?” the man asked. “That’s the attitude we’re looking for.” said the Sergeant, “When can you start?”

TORQUING CARS! RAV4 GETS AN UPDATE !
The Toyota Rav4 gets an update for 2016 with the addition of a new Hybrid option, joining the Yaris, Auris and Prius in the brand’s semi electric line-up.The existing diesel engines have also been replaced by a more efficient 2.0 D-4D, with an impressive claimed fuel economy of 60 miles per gallon. The Hybrid returns slightly less than that at 57, but Toyota reckons the real appeal of the semi-electric model won’t be in the running costs but rather in the way it drives, and the increase in usable power – offering the equivalent of 197 HP to the diesel’s 143. Both offer a very comfortable ride, and the diesel remains impressively quiet at any speed, feeling almost as powerful as the Hybrid, even if it’s not on paper. The suspension set-up is just soft enough to cushion the blows from any rough surfaces, Well-weighted steering, great all-round visibility and that high driving position complete the list of what most people are looking for from a mid-size SUV. It has a new interior, with better quality materials and an abundance of leather giving it a really premium look and feel. Styling aside, it’s as practical as it has ever been.Equipment levels have also improved with 17 inch alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel, Bluetooth and Stop/Start technology now standard on the entry level Aura model (from €29,950). The top-selling Luna trim adds cruise control, a seven-inch touchscreen, sports seats and a reversing camera. The Toyota name remains synonymous with reliability and longevity, and even the relatively new Hybrid technology has proven to be virtually trouble-free so far. All in all it’s been an impressive update, the addition of the Hybrid technology alongside some other impressive new features should certainly help widen its appeal on the modern market. RENAULT’S NEW GRAND SCENIC LAUNCHED
It is considerably larger than the ‘ordinary’ Scenic which made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring. However, you can still have this larger version as a five-seater or, as is more likely for some families, a three-row seven seater. As you’d expect, it is longer, taller and wider and is higher off the ground - all part of the marque’s decision to make this generation of Scenics look a bit more like SUVs than people carriers (MPVs).Renault says there is more interior space while room in the boot is up 40 litres (to 780).It will have 20ins wheels as standard which, again, underlines how they are accentuating the ‘SUV’ look.Expect the usual run of petrol and diesel engines but there will also be a ‘Hybrid Assist’ diesel version which sounds interesting. The smaller Scenic and its bigger brother are expected to go on sale here later on in the year.
TOP GEAR REVIEW: CHRIS EVANS AND MATT LE BLANC STICK TO TRIED AND TESTED FORMULA IN RELAUNCHED SHOW Go, go, go! The eagerly awaited new series of the BBC’s globally popular car show Top Gear (BBC Two) roared off the starting grid on Sunday night and, really, the only surprise was how little things have changed under its new presenters.
For months we’d been bombarded with reports of the Herculean labours the new team – especially co-hosts Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc – were engaged in shoring up the show following the departure of Clarkson and Co last year, to bring it, kicking and screaming into the 21st century. But, honestly, what were they doing all that time? Practising doing donuts and honing their scripts? On the evidence of this slickly entertaining relaunch the effort went not into reinvention but into ensuring the mechanics of the existing show were preserved in aspic. If proof were ever needed that format is stronger than presenter here it was. Thus we got Evans hooting, chortling and churning out scripted one-liners like a ginger Jeremy replica as he squealed around a US air base in the Nevada desert, taking on racing driver (and new regular contributor) Sabine Schmitz in a muscle car face-off of Dodge Viper ACR v Corvette ZO6. At least she produced an unscripted moment when the fighter pilot “wing man” in her passenger seat threw up.Then we had LeBlanc in another desert, in Morocco, kicking up dust in Ariel’s Atom-like off-roader offspring, the Nomad.Still, few fans would bemoan the return of the Stig, (Evans, hilariously: “We got custody!”) back doing lap times. Indoors, the studio sequences were lively, if also slavish to the old style. There was no sign of the reported lack of chemistry between Evans and LeBlanc,.Guests Gordon Ramsay and Jesse Eisenberg were not well-matched enough in personality or driving experience . Another niggle was how more than ever it’s obvious that the show was entirely scripted. There seemed little room for spontaneity, let alone danger. This time next year, most people – especially those who don’t subscribe to Amazon – will probably have forgotten what all the fuss was about.

TORQUING CARS! DIVANES HAVE ‘PRICELESS’ IRISH BEETLE
Our story in last weeks edition on the discovery in Italy of a 42-year-old Volkswagen Beetle with just 90kms on the clock was liked on all fronts but in particular from one well-known Irish VW dealer ...Divanes of Castleisland .”We’ve got one with just 26 miles (41.5km) on the clock,” says Denis Divane, Killarney Road, Castleisland, It is reckoned to be the only non-registered right-hand-drive version of the famous model. It was the last Beetle brought into Ireland. And the delivery docket is still on the window. The pristine 1977 1,200cc DeLuxe model in Mayo gold (pictured) remains unregistered. Its sticker price was £2,800 when new. No one knows what it’s worth today. The Italian one, to be sold at auction in Denmark this week, is expected to fetch €40,000. But the Divanes have no intention of selling their golden oldie. It’s an institution in the garage; a talking point among visitors (Irish and foreign) and customers. Some have tried to buy it. But as salesman John Vahey says : “It will never be sold. You can’t put a price on it now. “When you inherit something like this you feel it is not yours to sell.” (Indo Motoring)
ALEXANDER ROSSI WINS INDY 500 IN ROOKIE SEASON
An Indianapolis 500 rookie who only a few months ago lost his drive in Formula One thanks to sport’s extortionate pay driver rates won the 100th installment of North America’s most famous race in front of nearly 400,000 people at the Brickyard. Alexander Rossi, the 24-year-old American, had almost no experience of oval racing before taming the fearsome Indianapolis Motor Speedway, winning ahead of a vastly more experienced field. While the rest of the leaders had to pit for fuel near the finish, Rossi and his team Andretti-Herta gambled, almost coasting through the chequered flag with barely any fuel left in the car. Not only is it the first win for a rookie in the Indy 500 for 15 years it also marks an astonishing turnaround for Rossi, a talented victim of Formula One’s pay driver market. Rossi raced in five grand prix for Manor last year, with a best of 12that the United States Grand Prix in Austin. “It was close obviously [on fuel], too close for comfort,” Rossi admitted. “But obviously the people on the timing stand knew what was going on and we made it work. “It’s an unbelievable result for the team. Just is a testament to how hard everyone has worked this entire month. We’ve been strong from day one, on Monday. It’s made my life that much easier “
CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN
If your car has developed a fault, turn to Honest John by emailing honestadvice@telegraph.co.uk Cash is king? Q I advertised my late father’s two-year-old Toyota Auris estate for £8,125, as recommended by the Autotrader website. Two prospective buyers have asked if I would accept cash, which I was wary of, but both declined my preference for using an electronic bank transfer. What should I do? ML A There’s no foolproof way to accept large payments for a used car. Cash can be counterfeit; bank transfers can be recalled, and of course cheques can bounce. However, cash is considered one of the safest ways to accept payment as the chances of it being counterfeit or stolen are lower. To be as safe as possible, arrange for the cash payment to be made inside your bank and deposit it immediately. HJ

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR ARE JERSEY’S TOO EASILY AVAILABLE?
Being in my 50’s – my very early 50’s as I just crossed that threshold in February! – I can remember a time when you would not see any football or soccer jersey’s off the field. Supporters would go to games with flags and scarf’s but jerseys were only for the players. This was something that the legendary Gene Mangan brought up when I had a chat with him at the finish of the Ras stage into Sneem. He said he can still remember the day he first pulled on the Kerry jersey in the early 50’s. In 1952 as a 15 year old he won the Kerry road race champion and shortly afterwards was on the Kerry cycling team. In 1954 he was on the Kerry team that contested the first 8 day Ras and he won outright in 1955. Gene was asking the question as to whether having Kerry jerseys on sale and most kids getting them from a young age somewhat devalues the pleasure of actually getting a jersey. Of course it is not just Kerry jerseys but every team in Ireland that now has their jerseys on sale. But these are really small scale compared to the monies spent on jerseys of the major soccer players and clubs. The number one soccer jersey is that of Messi followed by Christiano Ronaldo and amazingly Manchester United’s Anthony Martial in 3rd. A sign of how popular United are worldwide is that Bastian Schweinsteiger in the 4th most popular with Wayne Rooney in 6th. Team wise Manchester United are the top club in the world on the merchandising league (well they had to win something!!) selling 1.7 million official replica shirts. They are followed by FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea. Of course the Republic of Ireland will be selling truckloads of jerseys these weeks as the Euro’s are just around the corner. I will see this at first hand as Umbro will have a tent at the Gaynor and Kennedy Cups and this will do brisk business, which of course is part of the reason why they sponsor the FAI. But is this different from buying a jersey that you might actually get to officially wear? Of course Kerry, or any county is not going to turn down the opportunity to sell merchandise to bring in much needed funds. The Kerry GAA store is a huge success since it opened and we all see kids from a young age sporting a Kerry jersey. So while we will never go back to the days of jerseys only appearing on the field the question still is does this devalue actually being picked on a Kerry team? Having thought about it I think that it possibly could have the opposite effect. Those picked on Kerry teams, from underage to senior, will say
36
TRALEE ADVERTISER
that being picked on a Kerry team in any sport is a massive achievement. For example it was plain to see the pride of the 5 Kerry riders wearing the Green and Gold in the recent Ras. If a young kid gets a jersey to wear he or she will then dream of actually getting on a team or being picked in an individual sport to represent the county. And like the vast majority of us who will never get that call we can wear our replica shirt and feel part of the success. Like a current advert says ‘Every jersey has a memory’ and this is so true. We all have that jersey in our wardrobe that we will never wear again but will never throw out as it’s the jersey we wore when we went to a certain game with our fathers, uncles or other special people. How many of us will put on our Irish shirts in the next few weeks and if we pass a ball in the garden will kick it into the hedge and dream for a second that we are doing it in front of 40,000!! As we say every jersey has a memory and over the summer we and our jerseys will hopefully create many more happy memories! PARADISE FOR MAVERICK AT THE TRACK: Paradise Maverick rolled back the years by winning the e15,000 2016 Boyle sports Race of Champions final at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium. Greyhound mastermind Mort Murphy (who didn’t tip the winner!!) said that Maverick has been a wonderful servant to the Jarne/Davis/ McElligott syndicate. “He went off at 4-1 ahead of Rural Hawaii who was favourite at 5/2 with Farloe Joey at 11/4 and Leave at Dawn at 7/2. But it was the outsider Ballymac Boxcar who took the early lead with the winner back in 3rd. But Paradise showed his experience by going the shortest way round to take the win from Farloe Joey and Ballymac Boxer. Na Gaeil and Keel win Club Championship: No we haven’t changed sports and are still on the dogs! The Club Championship, where GAA clubs and District Boards are paired with dogs was won by Na Gaeil and Keel who are e1000 better off. Civility Counts was the dog that did it for the two clubs. Track Record: It was a night of fast times with Ballymac Sexton smashing the 325 track record. The 525 record survived by one spot as Droopy’s Nine clocked 28.06. Back to Normal this week: Racing this Friday and Saturday night sees the semi-finals of the Gain Feeds A3 525 yards taking place. Entries are now being taken for the Austin Stacks GAA A7 525 yards Buster that begins on Saturday June 4th and the Kerry Group Hospital Stake for A2 current 525 yards. This begins on Friday June 17th. CLOCK NO MENACE FOR DENIS: Denis Dunworth (Moda Kingdom Endurance) was back in Kerry Time Trial action this week and showed no ill effect of the crash he had in Nenagh a few month ago. He set a blistering pace of 26 minutes 20 seconds for the 20km route, which is just outside his own record of 25.47 which he set last year. The winner of the first round George Doyle from Tralee Manor West iBike took 31 seconds off him time from the first

night to finish second while his club -mate Tom Gentleman clocked a personal best time of 27.58 for 3rd. The top 6 was completed by 3 riders from the senior category with Conor Kissane (Killarney CC) in 4th in 28.36, Chris Dunworth (Moda) 5th in 28.53 and Tralee Manor West iBikes Joe Roche 6th in 28.55. Suzanne’s the fastest lady: Currow CC’s Suzanne O’Sullivan was the fastest lady in a time of 32.23 followed by Ciara Heally (Moda) and Sinead McCarthy (Sliabh Luachra) third. 2 in a row for Robbie: Robbie Scott (Manor West iBike) was the quickest u16 home in 30.40 as they also complete the full distance. His club mates Jake Deering was second in 31.57 and Patrick White 3rd in 32.05 with Sliabh Luachra’s Eoin Herlihy 4th. Sean and Adam the fastest underage: Sean Barrett from Tralee Manor West iBike won the u14 section for the section week in a row in a tome of 14.09 just ahead of Killarney CC’s Patrick Galvin with Eoin Moloney from Tralee Manor West 3rd. Tadgh O’Shea from Killorglin took 4th with Kingdom’s Ciaran Commane 5th and Stefan Caulfield Drier 6th and with only 0.4 of a second between them. Adam Lenihan was the quickest of the u12’s over their 9km time trial in 16.44 followed by Killian Caulfield Drier from Killarney CC and his club mate Shane Galvin 3rd. Completing the top 6 were Zac Boyle, Michael Guerin and Sinead Barrett. CURROW HOST ROUND 3 OF THE ROAD RACE LEAGUE: Currow Cycling Club has a long and proud tradition of cycling and this Thursday, June 2nd, hosts the 3rd round of the Cycling Clubs of Kerry Road Race League. Racing gets underway at 7pm for the u14’s followed off by the u12’s and then the seniors. The u16’s are the final group away at 7.36pm. The circuit is Lisheenbawn, Lahern, Clounclough Cross with the finish on the Castleisland side of Currow village at the top of the hill 800 meters from the village. GREEN AND GOLD RACE A GREAT RAS: The Kerry riders that took part in the recent An Post Ras are getting back to normal now after a tough 8 stages over 8 days and 1200 km covered. The Pat Dunworth managed Kerry team of Cathal Moynihan, John Brosnan, Eoin O’Connell, Barry Horgan and Richard Maes

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES showed that any lack of experience can be made up with by hard work and dedication and all 5 got to the end and indeed did much more than that. The team took 5th of 22 County teams, Maes held the County Leaders jerseys into Dingle and had top 11 finishes from Moynihan in 9th and the first Kerry rider into Sneem, and Maes in 11th. Tralee’s Sean Lacey also had a Ras to remember, his 14th and he was 10th overall in the County section and a member of the Cork AquaBlue squad that were 3rd in the team competition. He was also the first Kerry rider into Dingle and was awarded the Jackie O’Connor Memorial Trophy. Eugene Moriarty also deserves a special mention for completing his 19th Ras and will hopefully be back for his 20th next year while Shane O’Neill and Michael O’Shea also did well. NATIONAL BIKE WEEK: National Bike Week, which takes place annually, returns to Kerry this summer from Saturday, 11th June to Sunday, 19th June. JACK’S THE LAD: Fresh from winning the Radio Kerry /Terrace Talk Sports Star of the Month Kerry jockey Jack Kennedy has now landed his first winner as a professional. He rode Carrig Cathal for Gordon Elliott at a price of 8/1 in the McHale Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe. Elliott was delighted for his retained jockey. “It was great for Jack to have his first professional winner and I think this fella is in for a great summer”. TRALEE BAY SWIMMING NEWS: The club asks all those taking to the water during this fine spell of weather to make sure to take safety into consideration. All the swimmers who took part will get one valuable point in the World Series competition. World Series Round 1: The Hugh Culloty Expert sponsored Round 1 of the World Series took place last Wednesday in perfect conditions with an amazing 98 swimmers taking part in the race. The new swimmers in Group E went off first with Group A the last group to hit the water. Cillian Tierney was the fastest man on the night by almost 2 minutes. After the handicaps David Smith took Group A from Tierney and Alan Murphy. Antionette Boyd was the fastest in Group B with Suzanne O’Sullivan the fastest in Group C. Round 2 of the World Series takes place on Wednesday June 8th from 7.30pm over a distance of 1000 meters. The round will be sponsored by Waterworld, Rock Street and will be the Paddy O’Sullivan Cup swim. ST BRENDAN’S /OAKPARK COMMUNITY GAMES: In Judo the club had 3 gold medals in the County competition with Sean Barry winning in the U16 25kg, Bailey O’Sullivan in the u16 25kg and Donna Rogers in the u16 40kg. Having been part of Connacht’s win in the PRO 12, a victory that everyone bar Leinster cheered on, he has been picked on the Irish touring squad to South Africa, the first Irish squad to travel there in 12 years. Even though he is only 22 the second row is being tipped as a future Irish captain. THREE OF THE BEST IN KERRY: The Irish Times Best Club in Ireland competition asked for 500 word ‘prideful pitches’ and they got 3000 applications. The great news for Kerry is that 3 clubs made the short list and 2 of them are from Tralee. Austin Stacks and Parnells are joined by Killarney Celtic in the race to the e5000 first prize, with the decision being announced on June 18th. Stacks were nominated by Stephen Fernane with Caramel O’Shea-Maloney doing the deed for Tralee Parnells. I have to say I will be rooting for Killarney Celtic – my own club who are in because of the work they are doing with the Football for All. PARNELL’S NEWS: The u14 Tralee Parnells Camogie team put in a great performance in the Feile B final, played in Currow. This was an exciting game that could have gone either way right up to the final whistle but it was the Killarney side that just took the win. Well done to all the girls and they all have a bright future in the game. Summer Camp: The club is looking for an idea of how many players might take part in their Summer Camp as they need to plan ahead. The camp, in Caherslee, is on July 11th to 13th and is for children from 7 to 14 and cost e25. If you are interested please txt this to 0851355566. First Year Award: The club congratulates Devon Burns who was awarded CBS The Green First Year Hurler of the Year. This was a well-deserved accolade and timely as he has made a great recovery from injury. Darragh’s Skills: Parnells Darragh Maloney came third in the County Primary Skills competition with a score of 26 from 27. Darragh was representing Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn. Well done to Saoirse Maloney and Edward Sheehy who also performed well. Raffle: The club is urging all members and supports to purchase tickets for its draw with all the money going to purchase 2 sets of Juvenile
goalposts. First Aid Bags: The club thanks O’Connell’s Pharmacy in Tralee for donating first aid bags to the various teams. CAMOGIE NEWS: There was hard luck on the Causeway u14 girls who just lost out to Granagh / Ballingarry in the Limerick League Shield Final.
