LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES NOISY NUISANCE
Michele works from home and she is complaining about her neighbour’s dog who barks continuously throughout the day while the dogs owner is away working. Michele lives in an estate and is the only effected resident as the vast majority of the nearby residents are away working all day. She struggles to get much work done as her focus and concentration is being disrupted by the loud barking dog next-door. She has complained to her neighbour on more than one occasion and there has been no action taken to alleviate the situation. Whenever a person consider a noise to be loud, continuous repeated and occurs at such times that give you reasonable cause for annoyance they can initiate action Barking dogs are covered under the Control of Dogs Acts 1986 & 1992. A copy of the Form used for complaints to the Courts about noise from dogs is available from your local authority. Whenever you consider a noise to be so loud, so continuous, so repeated, of such duration or pitch or occurring at such times that it gives you reasonable cause for annoyance you can initiate action to deal with it. Initially, it may be sufficient to explain to whomever is causing the noise that it is a nuisance and so come to some mutually acceptable understanding. The Gardaí have the power to arrest a person for breach of the peace in a public place. They may ask someone to lower the noise coming from a dwelling but they do not have the power to enter a dwelling with the intention of simply asking someone to lower the noise. If the noise is persistent, you may complain to the District Court . A complainant must keep a diary and take notes of when noise or an incident occurs, and how long it lasts. It helps you keep track of what’s been happening and when, and provides good evidence for any complaint you make about your neighbour. You can write to your neighbour, setting out details of the noise and how it is affecting you. It is a good idea to suggest mediation and/or legal action if the matter cannot be resolved. Remember you should keep copies of all correspondence with your neighbour. It will also help others to understand the issue and the impact it has on you. Law quip : First neighbour: Did you hear me banging on the wall last night? Second neighbour: Don’t worry we are making a lot of noise ourselves. If you have a legal query or need further information on any item addressed in this column please send in your query to mirs@gofree.indigo.ie

TRALEE CREDIT UNION DROPPING THEIR MOTOR LOAN INTEREST RATE AS DEMAND INCREASES BY 68% The Society of the Irish Motor Industry issued its official 161 car sales figures for Kerry this week with an increase in Kerry of over 25%. If the hype in PCP Dealer Finance is anything to go by Tralee Credit Union is one credit union bucking the PCP Finance trend. So far this year Tralee Credit Union has seen a 64% increase in uptake to its motor loans. Since 1st of January 2016 they have lent out €7.4 million in motor loans to its members in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin, €3 million increase on this time last year. Speaking to Fintan Ryan, Tralee Credit Union CEO “the increase in car sales is due mainly to renewed confidence in people spending again, improved economy and this is reflective in all our lending in general. When it comes to motor finance there has been a lot of hype and confusion around PCP Finance being sold in the dealers. While there is no doubt people are taking up PCP finance deals, our motor loan figures show the value people still see in taking out a credit union loan to finance their new or second hand vehicle. The main difference between PCP finance and a credit union loan is ownership, with a credit union loan you own the vehicle day 1, with PCP/Hire Purchase agreements you don’t own the vehicle until the final repayment. A credit union loan offers you flexibility, you can repay your loan without any penalty, there are no balloon payments at the end, no mileage restrictions and we also insure your loan with free Loan Protection Insurance”. What attracts people to PCP finance is the low repayment rate, to combat this Tralee Credit Union reduced their motor loan rate earlier in the year and has just reduced their motor loan rate again for a limited period July, August and September. Fintan says “if you need access to finance, you get what you pay for, check out the different deals around, know what you are getting, with PCP there are balloon payments at the end, mileage restrictions, wear and tear just be mindful of that and make an informed decision”.
You can apply for a loan online at www.traleecu.ie, by phone 066 712 2373 (Dial 1) or in person at one of their branches in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin.

Minding your hair this summer

OILEÁN – CELEBRATING THE BLASKET ISLANDS
When the Irish summer kicks in, we all like to leave for every other country with sun. With the sun comes UV rays, sea salt and chlorine. As enjoyable as all these factors are, they can also be harmful to your hair. UV rays can be as damaging to hair as they are to our skin. Although the hair cannot get sunburn, it can be left dry and brittle after being exposed to strong sunshine. Not only can frizzy hair be an issue for many of you after a week in a brighter climate, colour fade is also a problem.
The National Folk Theatre The way of life of the Blasket Islanders is captured in this production, using music, song and dance to create an enchanting and spellbinding production.

Fight the fuzz
If you can wear a hat between the hours of 11am to 3pm, brilliant! This is when the sun is hottest. It’s also around the time we jump in and out of the pool to cool down. If, however you can’t wear a hat you can buy a UV hair protecting spay. It’s just as easy to make your own. Put some conditioner into a small empty spray bottle and add in some sun screen (SPF 30 is best) put in some fresh water, give it a good shake and you’re ready to go. If you have highlights, make sure to use a colour protecting conditioner as a normal conditioner left on the hair for more than 10 minutes will make your colour fade. Here are some other small tips to hopefully keep your hair healthy this summer. • Avoid using too many products like gels, waxes and hairspray. • Leave in conditioner for 5 minutes before rinsing. • Try wearing a hat in the chlorine. • Get a trim when your home. We hope these tips keep your hair in top shape this summer.

According to Club organisers Simon & Paul “ Greg really pulled out all the stops for us and gave our club an event to remember ....Its great to have such a top-class facility here in Castlegregory Village “
Question I have applied for a job in a sports club and have been told that I must be vetted by the Gardaí. What does this mean? Answer Since 29 April 2016, people working with children or vulnerable adults must be vetted by the Garda Síochána National Vetting Bureau. Workers include staff, volunteers and those on student placements working for an organisation through which they have unsupervised access to children and/or vulnerable adults. Under the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012–2016, organisations that require Garda vetting of individuals must register with the National Vetting Bureau. These include childcare services, schools, hospitals, health services and organisations providing leisure, sporting or physical activities to children and/or vulnerable people. If you are applying for a job with a registered organisation, the organisation will send you a vetting invitation form. You must complete the form and return to the organisation with proof of your identity. After validating your identity, the organisation will send you an email with a link to the vetting application form. You then apply to be vetted online using e-Vetting. If you wish, you may apply using a paper form instead. If you are aged under 18 you must submit a signed parent or guardian consent form.
REMINDER TIDY TOWNS COMPETION 2016 Closing date is July 9th All details at end of Application One form will do for estates AND GARDENS to be judged Send back asap GOOD LUCK EVERYONE
After reviewing your vetting application, the organisation submits it to the National Vetting Bureau. The National Vetting Bureau processes the application and sends a vetting disclosure to the organisation. A vetting disclosure may include details of convictions and pending prosecutions or a statement that there is no criminal record. The organisation will review the disclosure and will send you a copy of it. You can track the progress of your e-Vetting application online.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... CHRISTY MOORE HEADLINES KILLARNEY FOLKFEST JULY 8TH TO 10TH Folkfest Killarney has so much going for it. Placed right at the heart of the Kingdom at the INEC Killarney, the location provides a proper ambulant festival feel, while at the same time offering all the comforts of a hotel environment. With its on-site restaurants, bars, gym and accommodation, festival-goers can decamp for the entire weekend, all in the surrounds of the magnificent Kerry lakes and mountains. The festival’s tagline ‘From Dusk to Dawn’ sums up its timetable, with small intimate sessions in the acoustic room during the early evening, to bigband events running late into the night. Among those performing at Killarney for the festival are exciting Irish singer songwriter Marc O’Reilly and Dingle songstress, Pauline Scanlon; Scullion, Christy Moore, The Waterboys (who are performing their only Irish gig this year), Little Green Cars, We Banjo 3, Iarla O Lionáird, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Damien Dempsey, the Mick McGoldrick Band with just announced The Young Folk, Karrie O’Sullivan, In The Willows, Seven Glens, Méabh Begley & Matt Griffin, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh & Gerry O’Beirne & Séamus Begley & Friends The main headliner is Christy Moore, playing his only Irish festival date this year when he performs on Saturday July 9th at the INEC Killarney. Christy has a long association with Killarney: “I have played the INEC annually and back in the 80’s and 90’s I used to play weekly in The Gleneagle and when we come to the Killarney Folk Festival we will have to be at our very best. There are lots of exciting new bands playing there, so we need to be on our toes and playing at our best. Some of those rapscallions and whippersnappers will be expecting this old boy to be past it but I’m gonna go for it. I’m not ready to lie down yet! There will be new songs and old songs and songs that ain’t even written yet”. Festival programmer Conor Byrne said this week: “We are getting very excited as the festival draws nearer and are thrilled with this year’s lineup – the most high-profile so far in the festival’s two-year history. The programming also has very broad appeal, so we’re encouraging more families to come along this year – with the great facilities on offer from the INEC and the Gleneagle Hotel”. RTE Radio One is official media partner to The Folkfest Killarney and this week, Philip King, presenter of the South Wind Blows programme on Radio and member of iconic band Scullion who perform at the festival on Sunday July 10th said: “Heading back to Killarney is like going home for Scullion and joining this beautifully curated and diverse gathering of musical friends will be a real delight. The John Creedon Show on Friday July 8th and Céilí House on Saturday July 9th will also be coming live from the Ballroom . So expect music, chat and lots of craic.

Bexblah Beauty This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens
Hello my beautiful friends, hope you’re all having a great week! This week I will be talking all about my Current Beauty Favourites as I haven’t done one of those in a while.
Morphe M439 Deluxe Buffer Brush
I got this brush a few months ago after seeing Jaclyn Hill & Manny Mua rave about it & I am 100% not disappointed! I was a huge beauty blender fan and still am but at the moment this brush has replaced it totally. It blends my foundation like a dream and it doesn’t soak up as much product as the beauty blender did! You can get it for €15 on BeautyBay.com.
Freedom Makeup Pro Highlight
I have never heard of this makeup brand before but I saw it in CH Chemists the last time I was home in Tralee and was instantly attracted to the highlighter. I swatched it, was SO impressed and then saw it was only €4.50 so I bought it. I am massively into highlighters this month and this one is definitely one of my favourites, it’s SO affordable and pigmented.
Stay Gorge,
Clarins Summer Bronzing & Blush Compact
I have been using this compact NON STOP since Clarins kindly sent it to me. I was never a huge blush gal, but since getting this compact I’ve used the blusher in it which is a lovely Teracotta shade that I’m obsesssssing over. The bronze shades in this compact are gorge, lovely and warm toned for Summer. The compact is such high quality and doesn’t cake on my skin which is always a plus. You can get it for €42 in CH Chemists, Sam McCauleys, Debenhams or any other Pharmacy that stocks Clarins.
Catrice Camouflage Concealer
If you have any blemishes, discoloration or scars you want to cover, this is for you! I use this on myself and clients to cover up imperfections and it works like a dream. You can apply it after your primer and before foundation to really cover up anything. Best part? A pot of it is like €3! I have all three shades. Get it, you won’t be disappointed.
Angel Muse Perfume
I rarely talk about perfume as I am a creature of habit when it comes to it and I don’t tend to try many different ones. At the moment I use Thierry Mugler Alien and Marc Jacobs Decadance as well as my new found love, Angel Muse. I have gotten so many compliments on this perfume! It’s completely different from the Angel Perfume, it’s very feminine and has a hazelnut cream note to it which means it isn’t too sweet. I also got a refillable bottle which is so handy! So if you’re looking for a new scent, go to your nearest perfume counter and try this!

FACE FACTS!
Whether it’s Acne, Age-Spots, Fine Lines or just a badly needed deep cleanse – we’ve got it covered here at The Sanctuary Beauty Group. – Kerry’s only nurse led skincare practise
JET PEEL –
MEDICAL MICRO NEEDLING –
A favourite of Celebrities and A-Listers, this sterile method of peeling away up to 3 layers of your epidermis, ensures all dead skin cells are removed via micro-jet technology using a simple saline solution, thus exposing a cleaner brighter skin without the harsh downtime associated with the likes of micro dermabrasion (who will ever forget that famous scene in Sex in the City with poor Samantha!)’ This treatment is often the first step in the facial treatment plan for a lot of our customers of all ages but is especially effective for acne-prone skin or skin that has been neglected and needs an all-round boost’ according to Karen, who has worked with The Sanctuary for 12 years. Treatment time: 45mins Cost: from €85
Not for the faint hearted! This semi invasive treatment is a true investment in your skin and between 3 and 6 treatments is necessary for long term results. Your skin is cleansed and what follows is a penetration of the epidermis with a dermal pen comprising of 11 micro needles. This process stimulates the cells in your dermis into faster production of your collagen and elastin as well as stimulating your circulation resulting in tighter pores, smoother brighter skin in the weeks to follow, according to Stephanie, a senior therapist at The Clinic. As it takes time for the benefits of this treatment to become visible on the surface, we view this treatment as a slow burner, worth seeing through to the end of the recommended course for true results. Treatment time:50-60mins Cost: from €150 p/tr (Course prices available on consultation)
THE ULTIMATE DEEP CLEANSE
PHOTOREJUVENATION –
USING ELLIPSE LASER TECHNOLOGY
‘We recommend this remarkable treatment for varies skin concerns from teenage or adult acne to ageing uneven skin tones’ says Louise, Clinic Nurse. Combined with the use of ACCUMAX, Advanced Nutrition Homecare supplements, a course of photorejuvenation has proven remarkable for troublesome acne and is a super alternative to a course of harsh antibiotics. For older skins, it works by stimulating your collagen and elastin and by diffusing excess melanin or redness in the skin that leads to uneven skin tones. Treatment time: 50mins Cost: from€100 p/tr (patch test needed)
KICK START NEW SKIN CELL PRODUCTION
RADIO FREQUENCY – AWARD WINNING SKIN TIGHTENING FACIAL
‘This treatment is amazing for areas on the face where skin has lost its elasticity’ says Rachael, A Senior Therapist at the Sanctuary Clinic. It can be used all over the face or you can concentrate this treatment on targeted areas such as the jawline and can also be used as an add-on to other treatments such as a Jet-Peel for combined effect. Treatment time: 1 hour Cost: from €100

FITNESS!
Hello my strong friends! Hope you’re all having a great week. This week I’m going to to talk about the importance of knowing what you’re doing at the gym! When it comes to going to a gym, knowing why you’re there and having specific goals is essential. There’s no point going to the gym and hopping from machine to machine not really knowing what you’re doing or why you’re there, you’re wasting your own time and money. I’m not saying you have to go out and spend a fortune on a personal trainer 5 days a week, unless you want to. But I am saying definitely talk to someone with knowledge so that you can gain the most from your money spent. Here are my top tips for getting the most out of going to the gym… 1. Sit down, and ask yourself what you want: What do you want to gain from going to the gym? Do you want to lose body fat? Gain muscle? Put on weight? Knowing what you want from going to the gym is the first step. 2. Talk to a trainer: Whether it’s one of the people who work in your gym or another personal trainer, I think it’s very important to talk to someone in the know about what you want to achieve from going to the gym. Most gyms I have been in offer free consultations with their trainers where you can talk about what you want etc. Otherwise you can contact a personal trainer and have a once off consultation where they will make you a gym programme and talk to you about food and your own personal diet. You can go to a personal trainer as often as you like, you don’t have to go 5 days a week. 3. Set goals: Once you meet the trainer make sure to set goals that fit you and what you want from going to the gym. And I’m not talking long term unachievable goals, O’m talking realistic short term ones to keep you motivated. 4. ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN: Whenever you are going to the gym, always have a plan of what you are going to do, for example, leg day, hiit cardio, arms and chest etc. By having a plan you know exactly what you are there to do and it will keep you on track and focused.
MEAL OF THE WEEK This week’s meal of the week is LUNCH/BRUNCH! It’s a simple quick easy and filling meal with all the essentials, protein, carbs and healthy fats! Bagel with Cream Cheese, Smoked Salmon, Spinach and Poached Egg. • • • • •
1 Country Kitchen Bagel Slim Philadelphia Light Spinach & Rocket Mix Smoked Salmon 1 Egg
1. Poach the egg, I use the little poachies to poach my eggs. You can get them in supervalu, they make poaching eggs so much easier! 2. Toast the bagel. 3. Spread some philadelphia light on the bagel. 4. Add smoked salmon, spinach and poached egg on top. 5. Season with salt and pepper, I use Himalayan Pink Salt as it’s better for you. 6. And you’re done! A simple healthy yummy lunch or brunch!

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2016
Shellfish in Summertime!
As ye all know I’m a big fan of shellfish..... see the blog www.traleeculinarygangsters.wordpress.com for the mussel recipes last week if you missed it.So this week I’m going to do clams. They are not often used. even by chefs and we have fantastic shellfish of all sorts here off our coast .Yet for an island nation we eat very little shellfish. So here are two recipes ....Don’t forget to check Tralee Food Festival which is happening Sept 23-25th , go to their facebook page for updates and once again , I’ll l be doing a cooking demo in the Square.
CHORIZO STEAMED CLAMS
LINGUINI WITH CLAM SAUCE
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • •
1 tablespoon olive oil 1/2 cup finely diced onions 3 ounces Spanish chorizo sausage, quartered lengthwise, cut into1/4-inch pieces 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 1/2 cups white wine 3 pounds clams, scrubbed and rinsed 1/3 cup chopped Italian parsley 2 tablespoons butter
METHOD 1.
2.
Place large pot over medium heat; add olive oil. Stir in diced onion; cook and stir until onions begin to turn translucent, 3 or 4 minutes. Add chorizo; cook and stir to render some fat, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Pour in white wine. Raise heat to high and bring liquid to a boil. Immediately add clams and distribute evenly. Cover and cook until clams open, about 7 minutes. During this time you can occasionally shake the pot to “stir” the clams using potholders or a kitchen towel to hold the pot handles. It’s best not to open the lid and stir.
When clams have opened, remove pot from heat. Stir in butter and parsley; allow butter to melt. Serve clams in heated bowls with lots of the liquid
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • •
2 (6.5 ounces} clams, 1/4 cup butter 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic 1 tablespoon parsley ground black pepper to taste 1/4 tablespoon basil 1 (16 ounce) package linguini pasta
METHOD
Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Cook pasta according to package directions. Combine clams , butter, oil, minced garlic, parsley, basil, and pepper in a large saucepan. Place over medium heat until boiling. Serve warm over pasta

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES, FRANCE, AND BRAZIL ARE ON A PLANE
At one point, the president of the United States sticks his hand out the window and proclaims, “We are flying over the US.” The others ask how he knows. “Because I just touched the Statue of Liberty.” A while later, the president of France sticks his hand out the window and says, “We are flying over France!” The other two ask how he knows, to which he replies, “Because I just touched the Eiffel Tower!” Finally, hours later, the president of Brazil sticks his hand out the window and states, “Ah, now we are flying over Brazil.” The others ask how he knows. “Because they just took my watch.”
TROPHY WIFE
Bob, a 70-year-old, extremely wealthy widower shows up at the Country Club with a breathtakingly beautiful 25 year-old blonde who knocks everyone’s socks off with her youthful looks and charm. She hangs onto Bob’s arm and listens intently to his every word. His buddies at the club are all aghast. At the very first chance, they corner him and ask, “Bob, how did you get the trophy girlfriend?” Bob replies, “Girlfriend? She’s my wife!” They’re amazed, but continue to ask. “So, how did you persuade her to marry you?” “I lied about my age”, Bob replies. “What, did you tell her you were only 50?” Bob smiles and says, “No, I told her I was 90.”
The beer was cold. What the HELL is she talking about?
MY WIFE WON’T LIKE IT
One day I accidentally overturned my golf buggy. Elizabeth, a very attractive and keen golfer, who lived in a villa on the golf course, heard the noise and called out, Are you okay, what’s your name?” “Its Jack , and I’m Okay thanks,” I replied. “Jack , forget your troubles. Come to my villa, rest a while, and I’ll help you get the cart up later.” “That’s mighty nice of you,” I answered, but I don’t think my wife would like it.” “Oh, come on,” Elizabeth insisted. She was very pretty, very sexy and persuasive... I was weak. “Well okay,” I finally agreed, and added, “but my wife won’t like it.” After a restorative brandy, and some creative putting lessons, I thanked my host. “I feel a lot better now, but I know my wife is going to be really upset.” “Don’t be silly! Elizabeth said with a smile, She won’t know anything. By the way, where is she?” “Under the cart!”
I WAS DIGGING A HOLE IN MY BACKYARD...
I was digging a hole in my backyard when I found a box filled with gold coins. In my excitement I ran back in the house to tell my wife when I remembered why I was digging a hole.
HOW DOES AN APPLE WATCH OWNER KNOW THAT IT’S MIDDAY? It’s already run out of battery.
THE NOTE
I came home from the golf course today, and found a note my wife had left on the refrigerator. IT’S NOT WORKING. I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE. GONE TO STAY WITH MY SISTER I opened the fridge. The light came on.

TORQUING CARS! THE £2.5M ASTON MARTIN THAT’S FASTER THAN A FORMULA ONE CAR - AND YOU CAN DRIVE IT TO THE SHOPS
Aston Martin has unveiled its collaboration with Red Bull, the AM-RB 001, which it says will be faster than a Formula One car, despite being road-legal. The AM-RB 001 sees Aston gunning for the title of world’s fastest car, although the Gaydon-based company stresses that it is prioritising lap times over top speed. The car manufacturer, which is also set to launch the new DB11 this year, confirmed back in March 2016 that it is working with Red Bull Racing and its chief designer Adrian Newey on what Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner described as “the ultimate of all road cars.” The new car will be powered by a high-revving V12 engine, which makes do without turbocharging, and is mounted in the middle of the two-seat car. Newey is working on the project alongside Aston’s chief designer Marek Reichman and its chief special operations officer Dave King, who runs the company’s Special Operations department that was also responsible for the track-only Vulcan hypercar. Newey’s job is to ensure the car has “unprecedented high levels of downforce in a road-legal car”, which he is said to be achieving through underfloor aerodynamics, leaving Reichman to shape the car’s body panels. It will then be up to King and his team to build the cars at Aston’s Gaydon plant, with production limited to between 99 and 150 examples, including 25 track-only versions that are said to have the performance of an LMP1 Le Mans racer.Aston boss Andy Palmer said demand for the AM-RB 001 was “three times oversubscribed”.Aston has said that the AM-RB 001 will cost in excess of the £1.8 million it charged for the Vulcan. In reality, the final figure is likely to be nearer £2.5 million. Deliveries will begin in 2018.
BBC CHAIRMAN SOUGHT ASSURANCES OVER CHRIS EVANS’S CONDUCT
The chairman of the BBC sought “specific assurances” from the corporation’s director-general that Chris Evans had not engaged in any “unprofessional behaviour” while presenting Top Gear, it emerged yesterday. Rona Fairhead, the chairman of the BBC Trust, said she had discussed with Lord Hall of Birkenhead allegations that Evans had bullied staff on the programme, but was told that the claims were untrue. Evans stepped down from Top Gear on Monday, after his revamped version of the motoring show achieved disastrous viewing figures, and it emerged that the star faces a police investigation into claims that he sexually assaulted a female colleague in the Nineties. The presenter was the subject of a series of tabloid claims that he had bullied staff on Top Gear, leading one producer to quit the show, with friends of Evans – who denies all claims of misconduct - suggesting that the vituperative nature of the coverage was a key factor in his decision to walk away. Asked about the reports, Ms Fairhead told MPs on the culture, media and sport select committee that she had been given “specific assurances” by Lord Hall. Lord Hall has also dismissed the claims, writing to one MP: “I have spoken to Mark Linsey, Director of BBC Studios, and Bob Shennan Controller, Radio 2, who have assured me that there is no truth to the suggestion that Chris Evans’ behaviour either on the set of Top Gear or on the breakfast show at Radio 2 has been unprofessional. “Chris Evans’ past issues, both at work and in his personal life, have been well documented in the media. I am very satisfied that since he rejoined the BBC he has met the standards expected of him.”
DACIA DUSTER GETS NEW “PRESTIGE “TRIM LEVEL
THRIVING Dacia have added a new Prestige trim level to their popular Duster range (they added a Signature Prime limited edition last year). There is a small price increase but standard equipment includes DAB radio, new headlights, revised front styling, new seat upholstery, satin chrome centre console and so on. Prestige comes as 4x2 and 4x4 and costs €1,200 more than Signature versions. Prestige adds 16ins alloys, MediaNav Evolution multimedia system, and rear parking camera with sensors. Later this year the Duster will get an EDC gearbox (on dCi 110 4x2 versions).(Indo Motoring)
MERCEDES IS TARGETING THE LADIES
MERCEDES is flirting with the ladies big time. Apparently they are planning on becoming the ‘leading choice’ among the premium car brands by 2020.They want women to constitute a minimum of 30pc of their customers by then. Put that in context: Mercedes has up until the last few years been regarded as a car for rich middle-aged men. Not any more, in fairness, after producing some excellent modern cars. Company chief Dieter Zetsche believes women are the world’s “fastest-growing and most influential group of customers”. Expert analysts say that women influence 80pc of all new car purchases. They either buy the car themselves or say yes/no to a partner’s choice. It looks like Mercedes are well on their way in the US where 40pc of customers are women, compared with 25pc in China and just 20pc in Germany. Mercedes marketing gurus have come up with a special initiative called ‘She’s Mercedes’. Fitting for a brand that is, after all, called after a woman.(INDEPENDENT.IE) 32

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR HAT TRICK FOR KERRY TEAMS: It was a memorable week for Kerry with wins and Munster titles for the Juniors, Minors and Seniors. Steven Wallace’ s charges got the first leg of treble of to a great start with a win over Cork, again by the narrowest of margins. Like the old sporting adage ‘You make your own luck’ and then this is the second time that the Juniors won by a narrow margin and when a team can do that it is always a good sign. Manager Stephen Wallace and his backroom staff have the task of developing a new team every year and he credits the hard work of the squad for getting to the All-Ireland semi-final. No disrespect to either Lancashire or London but I would expect Kerry to get past whichever of these side the face in just over a week. Not that they will be taking anything for granted especially as they will be travelling away. However the recent success of the Juniors should continue. With a new manager and a mostly a new team it was always going to be interesting to see how the Kerry minors would handle the pressure. And add to this that they were looking for a 4-timer in Munster. But this is a serious bunch of players who are used to winning at a high level and here again they showed that class. A 3-13 to 3-8 win over a good Cork side meant that there was satisfaction for Peter Keane and all involved. However to win a Minor All Ireland is never easy and until recent years Kerry had a barren spell. And this year championship will not be an easier to win. Kerry will be out against the Ulster runner-ups on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Donegal and Derry face off in the Ulster final and no doubt there will be a number of Kerry scouts making the trip to Clones. The minors have used 26 players in their three games and the managers will be hoping all get through the next few weeks, a busy time at county level including the County Minor Championship. Of course this will also give the management the chance to have a look to see if there are any more players that they should call into the panel. Cork have not gone away as they play the winner of that Ulster final so the possibility of another clash with the Rebels later in the summer is still very much alive. However many of these boys know what it takes to win All Ireland titles with a number of them having won last year and also a good few of them have a Schools All Ireland soccer medal. The potency of the scoring threat of this team will most lightly see then go to another round or to and hopefully all the way to Croker. It is never easy to go into a game when everyone sees only one outcome. And this probably explains the slow start by the Kerry seniors. But within 15 minutes they were well ahead and there never was a way back for Tipperary. There was lots of positives for Eamonn Fitzmaurice and his selectors with some very good performances from some of the younger members of the squad, the

return from injury of others but on the down side there was the injury to Colm Cooper. The Gooch is having a scan on his shoulder this week and hopefully it won’t prove too serious. However if he has to miss a game in the Championship then the next one, the All Irleand quarter final, would probably be the one all wound chose. Kerry will face one from Sligo, the winner of Derry or Meath, the winner of Cavan or Carlow or the loser of Roscommon and Galway. While the majority of these will prove a sterner test than Tipperary did there is no doubt that it is in the following round, the Last 4, where the first major test will come. However for now it’s a case of the Kerry GAA and its fans basking in the glory of a hat trick of Munster title trophies safe in the trophy cabinet for another year. PARNELL’S NEWS: U16 Championship: In the u16 game against Kilmoyley the Parnell’s u16’s enjoyed a very satisfying win 2-12 to 4-03. There was nothing between the sides during the game and Kilmoyley were actually ahead late on by a point. But from the puck out the ball was played up field and Luke Chester finished to the net to put Parnells ahead and they held the lead to the end. They will play Causeway next. Minor County League: There was no joy for the Minors in the County League. They went down to Kenmare/Kilgarvan after a good game. Cul Camps: The Parnells Cup Camp for boys and girls between 6 and 13 will take place from August 15th to 19th and will as always be an excellent week of hurling enjoyment for the young players. Hurleys and equipment will be available if required for new participants. Booking is essential and parents should do so as soon as possible. Player Profile: Please visit the clubs Facebook page to see a Player Profile of the clubs Kerry u16 camogie player Clodagh Begley. Club Tops: Parnells Tops are now on sale in Hennebery’s Sports. CAMOGIE NEWS: Kerry began their u16 All Ireland campaign against a strong Cavan side. And it was the visitors who were well ahead at the break 2-11 to 0-1. The Kerry girls battled to the end but went down 4-15 to 3-2. They play Offaly away this Sunday. The Juniors are also on the road as they go to Armagh in their Liberty Insurance Championship clash. The Kerry u14s have commenced training under David Doyle and his management team. They train on Monday’s in Causeway and Thursdays in Carsalee at 6.15pm on both days. Camogie Academy: The Kerry Camogie Academy will take place on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th in Tralee from 10am to 2.30pm with buses available to bring players

to the Academy. Development Officer Patrice Diggan has all the details on 087 0534766 or email developmentofficer.kerry@camogie.ie Gold Classic: Kerry Camogie are holding a Golf Classic at Ballyheigue Golf Club on August 13th. Teams of 4 cost e100 and a Team sheet is available in the club or by ringing 066 7133555. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 7,18,27 and 28 with the next jackpot being e6,800. Underage: The u6,8,10’s and u12 girls are in action tonight Friday, July 8th. They train as usual over the weekend. Seniors: The seniors are at home to table toppers Ballydonoghue this Saturday July 9th in Round 6 of the County League. The game throws in at 7.30pm. Hurling: Well done to father and son club members Tadgh and Aidan O’Halloran who were on the winning Lady’s Walk team who defeated Kilgarvan in the preliminary round of the County Intermediate Hurling championship, They play Dr Crokes next. Plaque Unveiling: There will be an unveiling of a plaque of former jarvey and storyteller, Nedeen Kelliher by the coffee shop in Blennerville’s Windmill next Wednesday the 13th of July at 7.30pm. The plaque will be unveiled by comedian and singer, Brendan Grace. All are welcome. Primary Schools Game: Well done to Tomas O’Sullivan who played in the Primary Schools game during half time of the Munster Final. Congratulations: Well done to all those involved in the Kerry North u16 Hurling Munster Championship win. Also to those who won Munster Minor medals last weekend. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The underage training is back this week after some had a break for the Munster Final. All the underage are delighted for club members that won Munster titles at the weekend. The u12’s and u13’s are set to take part in the Town League which is set to commence shortly. The u14’s defeated Laune Rangers while the u16’s are set to face Kilgarvan/ Tousist this Friday night. Well done to all those who took part in the Kerry Bord na nOg Cul Summer Football camp. Everyone enjoyed the camp. Stacks own Autumn Football Camp will take place in Connolly Park from August 2nd to August 5th. LADIES LOOK TO WIN 4TH MUNSTER TITLE FOR THE COUNTY: 7pm on Sunday night at Killarney Legion is not a time you would think of for a Munster final but that’s when the Kerry Ladies face Cork in the decider. This year the Munster championship was a round robin with Waterford also involved. Kerry have beaten Cork twice in the League and earlier in a very impressive performance in the championship

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES in Macroom. Kerry are also the reigning Munster Champions but we all know of the standard and history that Cork bring to the table. Hopefully the Kerry girls can get the win and then see how far they can go in the Championship. Underage: There was no luck for the u14’s as they lost out narrowly in their bid for All Ireland glory, This is a very talented side but on the day Kildare just got the better of them. However some will be back again next year and some will move to the u16’s. We wish the u16 girls all the best as they hope to continue a great run over the last number of years and add this All Ireland to their winnings. LAST CHANCE FOR TRALEE TEAMS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP: This is a big weekend in the Garvey’s County Senior Football Championship with Austin Stacks taking on West Kerry and Rahilly’s playing Legion. Both games are part of double headers with the Rockies the second game in the Austin Stack Park on Saturday with their game throwing in at 6.45pm. Stacks had a good draw down in South Kerry but will be disappointed with the way they lost to the same opposition a week later. They will need to find the form of the first day to get past a strong West Kerry side. Kerins O’Rahillys play in the Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday at 3.30pm against a Legion side that is still smarting from losing the final last year. The Tralee side were impressive in the first round and will be hoping to push on from that. DONALD WALSH SWIM THIS WEEK: Round 4 of the Tralee Bay World Series will have taken place by the time you are reading this. The swim is the Donald Walsh Memorial Swim and it was followed as usual by the BBQ. Next week we will bring you details of who won the two perpetual trophies sponsored by Dominic Walsh Photography – one for the fastest swim overall and the Donald Walsh Memorial Trophy, which is one sought after of the year. It was first presented to Ken Turner in 1984 and some great names in swimming are on it including Gerald McDonnell, Jason Stynes and Donal Fitzgibbons. The swim is over 1500m and we will have all the details next week. YOUNG AND OLDER SOCCER STAR’S MAKE THEIR MARK: Two soccer stars with big links to Tralee had a week to remember. First the younger playerShane McLoughlin put pen to paper to sign his professional contract with Ipswich Town. Shane was one of 5 new professionals who signed their contracts in recent days. They have all accepted a one year contract with the option of another 12 months. Shane has been making a big name for himself at the Mick McCarthy including a place on the bench for an FA Cup tie last season. Shane, who is an Irish underage International and has already been on a three year scholarship with the club. One goal can make such a difference to a club for many reasons. For St Pat’s the decision to sign Darren Dennehy, alongside his brother Billy, has proved an inspired one. And it was
Darren’s away goal this week at AS Jeunesesch that has given his new club a e410,000 boost. It also puts the Dublin side into Round 2 of the Championships League qualifiers where they will meet Latvian or Belrussian opposition. Darren enjoyed a number of good years across channel after leaving Tralee and this has continued since moving back. But I doubt if he scored more important goal in his career as he headed home a Keith Treacy cross. LIMERICK DO DOUBLE OVER KERRY 17’S: Kerry’s woes at u17’scontinue as they lost twice to Limerick this week. They lost 4-1 in the Mark Farran Memorial Cup, presented in honour of the 33 year old Derry player who lost his battle with cancer. Kerry 17’s then went to Limerick in the SSE Airtircity League and went down 3-0. New manager Darren Aherne will have to try and get belief into his squad. They are all good players but some are just not producing. With the transfer window open this month Darren is expected to bring some new players. Of course the tough side of sport means that Darren will have to drop the same number out of the squad as you can only have 20 signed. Kerry are certainly the youngest squad in the League and we also got to keep this in mind as the development of the players is important. But this must be balanced with trying to get some good results. The joy of being a manager!! HOSPITAL GOES TO THE DOGS: This Friday the annual Kerry University Hospital fundraising night will again draw a huge crowd to the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium. There will be 11 top class finals with the feature being the Kerry Group A2 stake. Also on the night will be the Kerry District Soccer League Champions final and it is great to see the League involved with the hospital in this huge night. Off the track there will be plenty of entertainment including face painting, Bouncing castle, music before and after racing and a top class raffle. Entries: The Track is also taking entries for the Boylesports Derby Trial stake on Friday, July 15th and the Bobby Hickson Memorial starting on Saturday, July 16th. MIKE PUNCHES TO TOP TITLE: Young Tralee boxer Mike McCarthy won a major title this week when he was successful at the Monkstown Box Cup in Dublin. This competition is one of the top under-age tournaments in Europe and is promoted by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association. Over 900 boxers from all over Europe were involved from 156 clubs. Mike (13) took the title after defeating Blain Lambert in the 4okg category following a closely fought battle. He is a member of the Tralee Boxing Club and his fitness coach Andy Doyle said that “Mike’s win is just reward for all the hard work he has put in, especially in the last two months.” THREE FIFTY FOR TRIATHLON! The entry sheets are filling up fast for the next major sporting event in Tralee. The Tralee Triathlon Club Tri Kingdom Club Triathlon is
expected to attract over 350 athletes to Fenit on July 30th. There will be treats for all those taking part including a tee shirt and medal and lots of après tri entertainments including a bar-be-que and live music. The sprint course is a 750m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run and the event sees the clubs team up with the Fenit Development Association and Landers Leisure with the RNLI Lifeboat being the charity partner. Registration details for the event are on www.sportstiming.ie or www. traleetriclub.ie Tralee athletes on the way to New Taipei: The athlete population of Kerry is down 23 this week as the Tralee International Children’s Games team are on the way to Taiwan. This is the 12th year that Tralee is represented at the games, under the organisation of Mike Culloty. This year is even more special as it’s the 50th anniversary of the games. Tralee will represent the country in athletics, soccer and basketball. The soccer team will take on Hadsen of Israel, Sopron of Hungary, Montreaux of Switzerland and Taichung of Taiwan. The Tralee players on the squad, coached by Paul Doolan and John Byrne are Paddy O’Rourke, Seb Vassiu, James Rusk and Sean McGrath, all who play with The Park. Imperials players Rachel Ryan, Ciara Ryan and Katelyn Crowe are on the basketball team which is coached by Linda Redmond and Carmelita Ryan and they play Hamilton of Canada, Tainan City and Keelung both from Taiwan. The athletes will take part in the 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m plus the Long and High Jump and then Shot. Tralee Harriers members Cillian Griffin, Basit Oyebonji, Harry Emerson and Meabh McElligott are joined by St Brendan’s AC members Darragh Courtney, Ciara McCarthy and Fergal O’Brien with Derbhail Foley as the coach. The squad flew out on Wednesday and will return on the 17th after a trip that will live long in the memory. ON THE GREEN’S – TRALEE: Tralee and Killarney will contest the Irish Junior Cup West Munster final as both came through their earlier rounds as predicted. Tralee beat Castleisland, Newcastlewest and Ceann Sibeal, all 3-2, t reach the decider. The date and venue of this is not decided yet but it is known that the winner will go through to the Munster semi-finals on August 13th and 14th at the Cork Golf Club. At the Tralee Golf Club in the CC Dry Cleaners Sean Carmody took the honours with 40 points. Second was David Hennebery with Jim O’Donovan 3rd and Kieran Ruttledge 4th. The Best Gross went to Anton O’Callaghan and the +18 handicap to Kieran Dineen. In the Seniors competition Seamus MacGearailt was the winner from Ronnie Brosnan, Billy Naughton and Rory Kilgallen. The 9 hole competition was won by Eamon MacSweeney. The Ladies were also in action and the Ardfert Quarries Master Classic 18 hole stableford went to Vera Tierney on 34 points. Second was Mary Savage and 3rd Karen Gearon. The Best Gross was won by Mary Murphy.
