EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES! LOCAL DJ CHRIS GETS THE ROSE BALL GIG! Premier Social Event in Kerry!! Once again ,well known DJ Chris Shortt, has been selected to entertain the Roses at this years gala event ,The Rose Ball on Friday 19th August However Chris is no stranger to this event having performed as “Rose ball DJ” for the last number of years! “I am delighted to have been selected AGAIN to perform at the Gala Rose Ball Event ,it was an honour some years ago to be asked to perform at the 50th anniversary Rose ball and its an honour again to be involved in the biggest Rose selection event in Tralees Festival history ....it shows I must be doing something right!!! This year is very special as Tralee hosts the semi-finals on Wed / Thurs before the Rose Ball on the Friday night .”Its a very spectacular night as the organising committee raise the bar each year to be even more special than the previous year.... and they certainly do ..... I know ...I see it each year ! It is great to have followed bands such as Aslan,Paddy Cole,Abbaesque, Bjorn Again,Brass & Co etc over the years. This year in particular I think ,Danny & Bryan and all in the local entertainment committee have surpassed themselves with the even larger entertainment line-up I think the set-up in the Square will be very special and its fitting that the Festival now has its own HQ , the Rose Hotel which will be the centre of the Universe for 2 weeks ! WATCH OUT TRALEE for Chris at the Dome ONCE AGAIN this year!!

CH, CHEMIST TRALEE, ONE OF 3 KERRY SHOPS TO MAKE “BEST SHOP IN IRELAND” SHORTLIST
Congratulations to , CH Chemist Tralee who along with Nest and The Little Cheese Shop have made it onto the much coveted shortlist of The Irish Times Best Shops in Ireland. This country-wide search seeks to find the best of Ireland’s retailers as voted for by their customers. CH Chemist , a local retailer has been selected from an incredible 30,000 nominations submitted by the public. “Once again we have had an amazing response from readers telling us about the shops they love and enjoy visiting,” said Orna Mulcahy of The Irish Times. “The shortlist of 100 includes a brilliant range of shops from remote family run stores to slick new businesses that are aiming for the big time. Independent retailers have not had an easy time in recent years but as the economy improves there are some really interesting new trends in the shops sector. This year, the Best Shops judges and secret shoppers were impressed by the high number of new shops, cafés and salons being nominated. It has also been heartening to see previous winners of the competition being nominated again for great service and innovation. This is the 5th year of the Best Shops competition which is sponsored by AIB. It’s going from strength to strength and we’re looking forward to announcing a great line up of winners on August 27th.” Commenting on the sponsorship, Simon Healy, AIB Retail Sector Specialist said: “As proud sponsors of The Irish Times Best Shops competition, we are delighted that local communities have come out in force to support their favourite shops. The Irish Times Best Shops, now in its fifth year, recognises the important part shops play in the community – both rural and urban. The full list of shortlisted shops is available on www. irishtimes.com/bestshops. The overall winners for each category will be announced in The Saturday Magazine and online on August 27th.

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
SAFETY FIRST Ross tripped over the flex of his sophisticated alarm and coffee making machine in his bedroom and suffered an ankle break that put him off work for 2 months. He is wondering if he can sue for compensation in relation to this injury. Unfortunately for Ross it is unlikely that his standard household policy will cover this injury, which would be seen as his own fault. This is not to say that a visitor /family member to a property might not be able to recover compensation if they are injured. The scenario highlights the importance of health and safety in the home which is not covered by the aptly named Safety Health and Welfare at WORK Act 2005. Many accidents causing significant injury happen in the home and as a result it is a good idea to do a hazard list and analyse the potential risks attached to those hazards and what we are going to do about it in the home. Effectively you apply work place safety to the home environment. You would be surprised at the results. Below are some tips for safety in the home, a sample of the more important ones only. More comprehensive material is available on the health and safety website www.hsa.ie 1. Smoke Alarms and Fire Blankets. The smoke alarm should be in the middle of the ceiling as smoke rises in a bell shape often and fills the corners last. Fire Blankets are particularly important in the kitchen. 2. Fire Guards around the fire to stop the sparks flying. 3. Make sure your bulbs are the right wattage for the lampshades, that damaged electric cables are replaced, that the extension leads are tucked away and that sockets are not overloaded. Turn off all electrical equipment when you are leaving and/or don’t need it. A registered RECI contractor should only do electrical work in the home. 4. Closing internal doors at night can stop a fire spreading and make sure never leave candles unattended. 5. Be careful of home security locking doors at night or when going away. 6. If you have children childproof the house e.g. electric socket covers, stair gates and chemicals, medicines and cleaning materials out of reach of young fingers. 7. Carbon monoxide alarms are becoming more popular. Simple safety consciousness can make the home a far safer and more secure environment. eM CAROLINE SAYS: cEnery Mediation can be used at times of disagreement when the parties involved have become too conflicted to resolve the issues themselves. These disagreements can occur between staff or with management. All companies large and small experience conflicts and grievances, and mediation can be a helpful way of fixing these problems. Conflict is an inevitable part of life, but must be resolved in the workplace so it doesn’t impede our daily life. Mediation can also be particularly helpful in situations of Bullying & Harassment especially early on in the process. A skilled impartial mediator can help facilitate a conversation between the parties. THE PRINCIPLES OF MEDIATION ARE... 1. Voluntariness - The voluntary commitment of both parties is essential for the mediation’s success - both parties are free to leave the process at any time, at which stage the mediation will end. 2. Impartiality - The mediator remains impartial at all times and does not take any sides or make judgements – any agreements are made by the parties themselves. 3. Confidentiality - Discussions during the mediation process and any agreements remain confidential at all times unless both parties agree otherwise. THE PROCESS OF MEDIATION The first stage of the process is a meeting between the mediator and each party separately. The purpose of this initial meeting is to clarify the parties’ understanding of mediation, confirm their voluntary commitment to the process, and discover what each party hopes to achieve by partaking in the process. The second stage of the process is a joint meeting between both parties which is facilitated by the mediator. At the joint meeting the mediator’s role is to oversee the process, assist communication between the parties, support them in identifying their issues and needs, and facilitate the parties to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement. The mediator provides a process that is safe for both parties and that allows them to communicate their interests and needs to each other.
Caroline McEnery is a trained mediator accredited with the Mediators Institute of Ireland. If you would like more information about using mediation in your workplace, please do not hesitate to contact Caroline or one of the team on 0667102887

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: THE NATIONAL FLAG Question What are the rules around using the national flag. Is it true that you can’t write on it? Answer The National Flag of Ireland is often referred to as the tricolour and consists of three colours – green, white and orange. It was adopted as the flag of the Irish Free State in 1922. It was formally confirmed as the National Flag in the 1937 Constitution: “The national flag is the tricolour of green, white and orange.” Article 7: Bunreacht na hÉireann. As part of the 1916 commemorations, the national flag was presented to every primary and post-primary school in the State. Along with the flag, schools received a copy of the 1916 Proclamation as Gaeilge and in English, and a booklet detailing the guidelines for respecting the flag.

These guidelines are issued by the Department of the Taoiseach and give extensive information about when the flag can be flown and how it should be used. For example, no other flag or pennant should be flown above it when it is being flown in Ireland. Care must also be taken not to let the flag touch the ground or become entangled with trees. The flag should never be defaced by placing slogans, logos, lettering or pictures of any kind on it, for example, at sporting events and it should not be draped on cars, trains, boats or other modes of transport. It should not be carried flat, except when used to drape a coffin. The rules also say the national flag should be replaced if it has become worn or frayed, as it is no longer fit for display in a respectful manner. The same principles apply if the flag is reproduced in printed or electronic format. However, these guidelines are not statutory guidelines. In other words, there are no laws setting out the rules around use of the flag. This means that there are no penalties for anyone who does not follow the guidelines.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... PUT YOUR PEDAL POWER TO THE TEST Killarney Cycling Festival Saturday, August 27
Put your pedal power to the test at the Killarney Cycling Festival which takes place on Saturday, August 27. If the climbs don’t take your breath away the scenery certainly will! Cyclists can choose from two tantalising routes, the Wrong Way Round or the gruelling Hard Way Round. Both routes circle the spectacular Iveragh Peninsula, taking in some of the most spectacular vistas on the planet. The Donal Walsh LiveLife Foundation is the official charity of the Killarney Cycling Festival. Cyclists have the option of donating directly to the charity when registering. Registration costs €55 and includes access to the food stops and the post cycle party at The Gleneagle Hotel with live entertainment and a barbeque. The Wrong Way Round is 160 km long. It departs from The Gleneagle hotel and tackles Molls Gap first before heading for the scenic South West via Sneem. From there on the route is familiar passing Waterville, Cahersiveen, Glenbeigh and Killorglin. The more challenging Hard Way Round is 180 km long and diverges from the Wrong Way Round by taking a right for Ballaghbeama through the heart of Kerry to Ballaghoisin, then there’s a further detour around the stunning Skellig Ring before rejoining the main troop on the road to Cahersiveen. Bring the cycling season to a close with either one of these truly rewarding cycles. FIFTH IRISH RECOVERY WALK TO CELEBRATE RECOVERY FROM ADDICTION
The 5th Annual Recovery Walk Ireland will take place in Dublin on 10 September 2016. It is one of a number of walks taking place around the world to promote and support recovery and help remove the stigma surrounding addiction. The Irish Recovery Walk will take place on the River Liffey quays, starting at 1pm from Dr. Steeven’s Hospital and finishing at the Garda Boat Club on Chapelizod Road, Islandbridge. It will be followed by an afternoon of food, fun and family-friendly activities including music, entertainment, five-a-side soccer, pony rides, bouncy castles and lots more. The afternoon will also feature speakers who are in recovery themselves talking about their experiences. This not-for-profit, free event is aimed at people in recovery, their families, friends, neighbours, and the voluntary, community and statutory groups which work with them. People with addiction-related issues face entrenched stigma about the problem within their communities and society.
Society is not always compassionate towards addiction or understanding of the courage it takes to recover from dependency. Recovery Walk Ireland wants to challenge this and show that recovery is possible. We also believe that recovery, which is a central theme in drugs policy internationally, must be part of Ireland’s new National Drug and Alcohol Strategy to be published in 2017.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... HAVEN PHARMACY LAUNCHES “SAFE HANDS “ NATIONAL COLOURING COMPETITION
Nine out of ten parents say their children have contracted a bug or a virus from school, according to a new survey conducted by Haven Pharmacy, the independent co-operative pharmacy group with 52 stores nationwide that provides expert, impartial and relevant health advice to customers. The survey also reveals that parents are most worried about their kids’ general vitality and well-being (38%) as they head back to the classroom in September, with other key concerns including ‘colds and flu (31%)’, ‘head lice (18%)’ and chest infections (13%).The Haven Pharmacy survey found that when it comes to looking for advice on a child related healthcare issue, nearly half of all parents (48%) said their local pharmacy would be their first port of call Over 500 Irish parents took part in the survey to tie in with the launch of the Haven Pharmacy ‘Back to School Expert Hands Colouring Competition’ which is being supported by well-known artist Don Conroy. Don has designed a back to school inspired illustration for kids to colour and be in with a change to win some great prizes! Copies of the illustration can be picked up in Kennellys Haven in Castle St , Tralee as well as any of the other 51 Haven Pharmacy outlets nationwide. According to Owen Daly of Haven in Castle Street “ We are delighted to offer the children such fantastic prizes such as the fabulous art sets and of course the Family Trip to Trabolgan . We have the entry forms in our store so just call in , or get Mom or Dad to collect one for you .The competition will have two separate age categories for kids aged 4 - 7 years old and 8 - 12 years old”

Bexblah Beauty This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens Hello everyone! Hope you’re all having a great week. This week I’m going to be talking about my current haircare routine. Since being white blonde last year, proper haircare is so important for me. I like to use more high end products on my hair because of all the bleach, dyeing and heat it has taken over the years. So here’s all the products I use on my hair currently.
SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER
For my shampoo and conditioner I’m currently alternating between two different ones. I like to alternate because I feel my hair gets too used to a shampoo and conditioner after a while so it’s good to switch it up. For shampoo and conditioner I’m currently alternating between Redken and Kerastase.
Kerastase Bain Fluidealiste Shampoo:
Redken Extreme Shampoo & Conditioner: Featuring
the exclusive Interlock Protein Network (IPN) and Fortifying Complex. Redkens Extreme Shampoo delivers a targeted care formula for those trampled tresses damaged by Heat Styling, brushing and even chemical processing. This intense conditioning will leave hair protected, healthy, shiny and ultimately more resilient to breakage.
Smooth-in-motion shampoo to prevent frizzy hair. Gently cleanses while providing optimal nourishment without weight and specifically for sensitised or colourtreated hair. MORPHO-KERATINE technology restores inner flexibility and weightlessly disciplines the outer fiber for perfect hair movement, taming frizz and protecting against humidity. SURFACE PERFECTOR to make the hair smooth, soft and easy to detangle. HIGH PRECISION CARE AGENT for restoration with a natural, weightless effect. Kerastase Maskeratine Mask: Smooth-in-motion mask provides maximum frizz control and extreme softness. This is a daily deep conditioning mask. It provides maximum frizz control, extreme softness and suppleness and seals ends to help prevent future blowdry damage.Perfect for Fine to Coarse, Unmanageable Hair
EXTRA TREATMENTS:
As well as shampoo and conditioner, there are other treatments I use on my hair.
Redken Extreme Length Primer: Use between shampoo and conditioner. Provides lightweight conditioning. Makes hair feel
stronger from root to tip. Extreme Length system of Shampoo, Primer and Sealer helps prevent hair from reaching breaking point by reducing breakage, thus maintaining its full potential for dream looking lengths. Exclusive Interlock Protein Blend provides intense conditioning. Formula enriched with biotin.
Redken Anti-Snap: Leave in Treatment for Sensitised Hair.
Unearth the intense conditioning that is the Extreme range. Gifted with an introduction to Redkens brilliant Anti Snap formula, this leave in treatment aids the fight against split ends and breakage. Anti-Snap assists in the protection of hair subjected to the rigours of heat styling, brushing and the chemical process.

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG
FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK! A MONTH TO AYIA NAPA NOW, WOOOOOOO! The gym is going fantastic, like honestly. I have finally got to the stage where I just want to get up and go to the gym first thing in the morning. It’s not me. I used to love sleeping in, and I still do. But I just get a buzz when I go early and get it done. I have been very consistent the past 4 weeks, the most consistent I have been and I am definitely seeing more and more results. Consistency really is key, if you want to drop a lot of body fat, you have to be consistent with both your food plan and your workouts. You have to track what you’re eating and know what you’re eating. I use MyFitnessPal everyday to track how much Protein Carbs and Fat I eat daily, and I’ve found it does make a difference, I’m more conscious of my food and once you get used to it it’s so handy! Even if you go slightly off track and eat say, a slice of Dominos Pizza, you can actually track it on the App. In saying that I haven’t become addicted to tracking food and I’m not obsessing over macros and numbers and calories unhealthily, because that’s where it becomes dangerous. I’m eating over 1500 calories a day, and I never go under that. There’s no point eating dangerously low calories to lose weight, you’ll end up sending your body into starvation mode and you’ll mess up your metabolism and it won’t be pretty or healthy. Also I’ve found that changing up my workouts to keep my body guessing really has benefits as it doesn’t get used to workouts. For instance, in the weight room, you can perform more reps or sets using the same amount of weight that you typically use. You can perform the same amount of reps with more weight, or you can completely switch up your number of reps and sets. Or, at the end of each workout, you could throw in one of two new moves you haven’t tried in a while. If you run on the treadmill, you could run sprints one day and a slow and steady run the next.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE FARMING FOR A NOBEL PRIZE
Farmer John is driving along the road one day when he spots his neighbour, Bill, standing on top of his tractor in the middle of his field. Overcome with curiosity, he ambles over and asks Bill what he is up to? Bill replies, “Trying to win a Nobel prize”. “How do you figure?” “Well, I hear they give them to people who are outstanding in their fields!”
MY CHEATIN’ HEART
A man suspects his wife of cheating on him so he waits for her to leave that night and jumps in a taxi to follow her. He finds she’s been working in a brothel. The guy says to the taxi driver, “hey, wanna make £50?” The taxi driver says, “sure, what do I have to do?” The guy tells him all he has to do is go inside the brothel and grab his wife, put her in the back of the taxi and drive them both home. The taxi driver goes in. A couple of minutes later the brothel door is kicked open; the driver is dragging a woman out who is kicking, biting, punching and fighting all the way to the taxi. The driver opens the taxi door, pushes her in and tells the man, “here, hold her!” The man looks at the woman and says to the driver, “THIS AIN’T MY WIFE”. The driver replies, “I KNOW, IT’S MINE; I’M GOING BACK IN FOR YOURS!”
UN PHONE SURVEY FAILS
Last month, a world-wide telephone survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: “Would you please give your honest opinion about possible solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?” The survey was a complete failure because: In Eastern Europe they didn’t know what “honest” meant. In Western Europe they didn’t know what “shortage” meant. In Africa they didn’t know what “food” meant. In China they didn’t know what “opinion” meant. In the Middle East they didn’t know what “solution” meant. In South America they didn’t know what “please” meant. 19th August 2016 2016 19th August 36 36 TRALEE ADVERTISER TRALEE ADVERTISERFridayFriday
In the USA they didn’t know what “the rest of the world” meant. And in Australia , New Zealand and Britain everyone hung up as soon as they heard the Indian accent.
A POLICEMAN KNOCKED ON MY DOOR THIS MORNING ... He asked, ‘sir we believe your dog has been chasing a boy up the road on his bike.’ I replied, ‘sorry officer, you must have the wrong house. My dog doesn’t own a bike.’
HELP HELP
An Irish pilot and co-pilot are approaching JFK and requesting landing clearance. The controller gives them clearance to land on runway 29. The pilot looks down in disbelief at how short the runway is. He asks the controller for confirmation and the controller repeats his instruction and asks him to hurry so they can hold their schedule. So the pilot and co-pilot share a worried look, and then focus hard on executing the shortest landing they’ve ever attempted. He’s sweating profusely as he struggles to maintain the perfect trajectory to touch down at precisely the right angle so that he doesn’t come down too hard but also touches down fast enough so he can brake. The instant the nose gear touches down he screams to his co-pilot to help him brake harder than they ever have in their lives. They both stomp on the brakes and pray that they can stop this plan before the landing strip ends. After a brief instant that seemed to last an eternity the plan finally lurches forward and back and the pilots sit in disbelief that they’ve managed to pull off such a difficult landing. The pilot says “phew that has to be the shortest runway I’ve ever seen.” The co-pilot agrees, but looking out both sides of the cockpit he remarks “But wow it’s definitely the widest, by far.”

Eircode, Ireland's postcode system launched in July 2015. Eircode enables people and businesses to find every address in Ireland, helping you to find life easier. At present I am not aware of any sat nav supporting eircode but I have use an app called Autoaddress and this is available for both Android and iPhone, just enter your eircode and it will give you the address and an option to get directions using google maps. Since using this app I have found it to be very reliable.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR THE TOUGHEST INTERVIEW OF THE OLYMPICS: Definitely the hardest interview of the Olympics, or at least from the television feeds we are watching, was our own Kerry man Joe Stack’s with Katie Taylor after she was beaten in her first fight and her reign as Olympic champion came to an abrupt end. As Joe said at the start “It is very cruel to have to ask”. Firstly the question as to whether sports persons should be asked to comment at their lowest time. Years of work, hopes and dreams have come crashing down and the media, and here I include myself, put a microphone in front of them. And it’s important to remember that local sports persons put in relatively as much effort as professionals and losses hurt them as much. Katie was in a world of her own pain and for the first few minutes could not get the words out. Eventually she did manage to get a few sentences saying she was thankful for all the support and that she should have been beating opponents like this. But her most profound sentence was she “had suffered a lot of losses this year and these were very hard to take”. Was she talking about her losses in the ring or the fact that her father, and long-time coach Pete, was no longer in her corner? This split came about because of personal family reasons that were probably kept a little quiet by the media as a sign of respect for Katie. But I could see them coming out this weekend in certain sensationalist papers! Katie’s lost a very close fight to the tough Finnish fighter Mira Potkonen who was probably the hungrier on the day. And in fairness it is a little disingenuous to speak only of Katie’s loss and for the coaches to claim she was robbed. It was fight that could have gone either way, and one that a case could be made for both fighters. But Katie’s loss does throw and even brighter spotlight on boxing High Performance Unit and how it has moved on from the loss of Billy Walsh. Suffice to say coach Zaur Antia is trying to be a coach and manager and this is not possible. Antia does not have the best command of English but is renowned as a top class coach, indeed Canada are supposed to be after his services. But he is not the man to replace Walsh who was more of an overseer who looked after all aspects of the unit. And if Walsh was there or if a High Performance Director had been appointed would the Michael O’Reilly situation have been handled much better? I think everyone agrees it would as he would have been out front handling the news cycle rather than what went on. So those in the IABA certainly have questions to answer. Were the boxers, including Katie victims of their own successes? The whole country expected more medals as a
44
TRALEE ADVERTISER
formality and as we know in sport there are no formalities. Ireland might have jumped ahead of other countries but now they have caught up. So replacing the Director should be the first step on their agenda. The whole training regime has also been called into question as some of the boxers seem to have been over trained and were flat but all this will come out in the post Rio reviews. There is also a train of thought, rightly or wrongly, that O’Reilly’s failed drug test has brought unwanted attention on boxing and the Irish fighters are losing close battles. Katie is also known to have turned down some ambassadorial opportunities and this also could have worked against her. Katie owes the country or the sport nothing. She is human and, a vulnerable sports person, just like all the others. We are all at fault for putting her on a pedestal. Whatever she decides going forward her place as a sporting hero is secured. Back to Joe and the interview. It is very tough to do as we said but if sports persons take the plaudits from the media when they win they must be prepared to face the same media on days that don’t go their way. Of course there are various degrees of losing. For example someone like Scott Evans in Rio who got as far at the quarter finals in badminton and exceeded expectations will be disappointed but not distraught. It is the failure to reach the expectation that one sets for themselves that brings on the anguish we saw with Katie and her interview. So spare a thought for the media too – yes it has its perks and at the higher level the chance to attend events like the Olympics. But for those few minutes with Katie Taylor I bet Joe Stack would much rather have been back in Listowel or anywhere else. Conlon robbed by judges: Just as I am writing this Ireland’s last boxer Michael Conlon has gone out of the Olympics and in this case he was robbed by very bad judging. There has been some very poor decisions in what has been a very controversial week for the sport. And if you haven’t heard Conlon’s interview on RTE you have to forgive him!! FENIT ROWERS FLY THE KERRY FLAG: For the last couple of year’s Kerry’s coastal rowers had it easy as the All Ireland championships were held in Waterville! Last weekend, however, they could not have been further away as they took place in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal. As usual there were a number of Kerry winners with the big clubs like Fossa, Sneem and Workmen all taking titles. But some of the biggest cheers were for Kerry’s newest club Fenit as they medalled in three

events at the weekend. The pre-veteran mixed crew of Paula Moloney, Edel O’Sullivan, Pat O’Connor, Kevin Crowley and Colm Lynch, the cox, won the bronze medal. The crew of Paula Moloney, Edel O’Sullivan, Brid O’Driscoll, Tara O’Halloran and cox Deirdre Leahy had a weekend to remember taking second in the pre-veteran ladies race but improving to the top of the podium in the Intermediate Ladies. Kerry crew’s in total brought home 25 medals – 8 golds, 10 silver and 7 bronze in a fantastic weekend for coastal sailing. STAYING IN THE WATER – 2 TIED FOR SWIMMER OF THE YEAR: In the World Series the weather has once again caused havoc with the swims resulting in the postponement of the Lighthouse Race. It is difficult to get the tides right for this tough swim but a new date is still being sought. 2 level in the World Series: The battle for the World Series title is really hotting up with 2 swimmers level at the top. Elaine Burrows Dillane and Sandra Byrne are tied on 16 points. Neil Fitzgibbons has made a late charge and has caught Sinead Kelliher with both level on 14 points. But there are still around 10 swimmers that can win the title which will not be decided until the last race. Crossbay Challenge 2016: The Derrymore to Fenit Challenge took place last Saturday in challenging conditions. The swim was put together to introduce newer swimmers to long distance swimming. 23 swimmers, who had been on a specific training plan for the last 2 months to build up their stamina, took part with all the swimmers finishing and all were presented with a commemorative medal. There was a huge crew involved both on and off the water to ensure this swim took place and the club thanks all those who volunteered. GOOD THINGS COME IN FOR THOSE WHO WAIT: The work done by the North Kerry Cricket Club has paid off as they recorded their first win in Munster Division 2 as they comprehensively outplayed Limerick at The Oval in Spa. Bowling first Kerry restricted Limerick to 123 all out in 37 overs. Leading the bowling figures were Ali Shah with 3 for 18 in 8 overs. Eddie Garczynski took 2 for 19 in his 7 overs while Godwin, Wyre and Umar all took wickets. There was also some great fieldling with Gazczynski making one memorable running catch. Captain Gary Pickett also had an impressive game constantly changing the bowlers and moving his field around. Facing the reachable total Kerry made a cautious start until Ali opened up and added an excellent 58. He was helped by North Kerry’s newest member John Boulding who made a solid 25 not out and Kerry completed the job with the loss of only 3 wickets in their 34 overs. TRACK READY FOR THE ROSES: In another busy week for the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there was racing on Tuesday night and on Thursday night the second round heats of the Boylesports Irish Derby were shown from Shelbourne Park. There were a number of Kerry dogs in the round on Thursday night and we will let you know how they got on next week. They were Confident Cato, College Paradise, Ballymac Belle, Ballymac Sarah,Skywalker Manner, Ballymac Matt and Amanita Chic. Racing continues on Friday night but the big one of the week is the now traditional Sunday Rose Meeting. The Sunday Rose meeting has a 8 race

CORMAC WINS NATIONAL CYCLING TITLE: Tralee Manor West iBike rider Cormac Daly was the impressive winner of the National A3 championships winning in Cong over 110km at the weekend. Cormac is working on the continent and has been riding there and it showed in the Championships. His win came after a solo ride that saw him get away the field and stay away. Oran Pierse, who was the winner of the Kerry Road Race series this summer, was 6th in the Junior Road Race Championships. He was part of the breakaway that got away early and they stayed away all race, over a tough undulating Mayo course. Tom Gentleman put in another good performance on the national stage taking 6th in the Master TT Championships. Senior County Championships: These took place in Currow on Thursday night with Tralee Manor West iBike probably the favourites to take some of the titles including the team. We will have the results next week. CAMOGIE NEWS: All those involved in Camogie thanks all those who took part in the fundraising Golf Classic at Ballyheigue Castle and thank all the sponsors and John and Marian Barrett at the club. The winners on 91 points were John Leen, David Leen, Pat Dillane and Terry O’Connor. They were followed home by James O’Dowd, Lorriane Canty, Denis O’Regan and Gemma O’Dowd with John Lohan, Frank Donovan, Brendan Harty and Tony O’Connor third. Thanks also to those who contributed and collected at the Church Gate Collection in Listowel last weekend. Blita: The u8’s and u10’s of Cillard took part in the very enjoyable blitz in Causeway. The u16’s had a good victory against Keel / Listry in the Lee Strand County League winning 5-10 to 2-11. The sides were set to meet again in the County League semi-final in Blennerville in mid-week. The Seniors claimed the two points at home in the County League beating St Senan’s 1-18 to 2-12 in a high scoring encounter. The home side led by 0-09 to 1-04 at half time. There are play-off for the other places in the Last 4. The u16 B’s enjoyed a good win over Currow and will meet the same side again in the League semi-final. RAHILLY’S FREE CAMP A BIG SUCCESS: Over 130 boys and girls are enjoying the Kerins O’Rahillys GAA camp, taking place at Pat Healy Park, this week. The club decided over the last few years not to charge in order to attract new players and believe this is working well. The boys and girls are delighted to be shown the drills by Kerry stars Barry John Keane and David Moran who call in to join the clubs coaches in passing on the skills of the game. ON THE GREENS: Tralee Golf Club: At the Pat Mulcare AmAm the winners were Willie Goulding, Michael Keane, Joe McCarthy and Kieran O’Callaghan with 185 points. The return of the ring is set to take place at next weeked’s Kerry Dublin game. There has been no comment from Kevin’s wife regarding her husbands losing of his wedding ring!!
