TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)

Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology Is Card sharing coming to an End?

Sky have launched a campaign to bring to an end the epidemic of viewing of Sky channels using illegal card sharing boxes. The reason it’s been so difficult to stop, is because a legal viewing card is used and its data is shared on a server among thousands of users. The illegal operators charge anywhere between €10 - €40 per month for all Sky channels including PPV events. However, you could only watch SD as Sky managed to knock out the HD channels some time back when they removed the Thomson Sky+ HD boxes out of circulation. On Tuesday Sky disabled 9 SD Sky channels from transponder Astra 2F 12.148 H The following channels have been switched off and it’s believed more to follow: Fox +1 | Sky Atlantic | Sky sports 4 Sky Sports 1 (England) | Skysportsnews HQ Living+1 | TCM | Eurosport 1 | Eurosport 2

Why Am I Not Getting My Full Internet Speed on Fiber?

As you know you can now get up to 1GB speed in most areas in Tralee but when you do a speed test on some of your devices you can only get up to 100Mbs the reason for this is the network connection be it Wi-Fi or Ethernet on your device is only designed for 100Mb per second If it’s a desktop PC you can upgrade to a faster Ethernet card and you can upgrade your Wi-Fi devices on your laptop with a USB dongle. If you have a iPad or a tablet make sur you connect to a 5Ghz device.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KINETIC FITNESS! Michaél Dillon , owner of Kinetic Health & Fitness in Monavalley, Tralee writes a few words about his first year running his own training facility.(0876127565) “Our doors opened for the first time on the 4th of April 2016. The last year has flown by as everyday brought something different to keep us busy. When I started college it was my dream to own and run my own training facility. To hit this milestone is amazing. I have been very fortunate to find something that I love and have been able to do everyday. I do not look at my job as work; I get up everyday looking forward to meeting new people, help my clients improve and share my knowledge with everyone that will listen.

In the past year, our clients have been getting amazing results. We pride ourselves on educating our clients on healthy eating habits so they can achieve their goals while not starving themselves, which is unnecessary and unhealthy. Our plans get clients started on the right track and most importantly they are manageable, realistic and sustainable. They learn about different types of calories, macros, portion sizes and more.

them even further. Thanks for helping to make Kinetic Health and Fitness a success. “ Michaél Dillon

If you are reading this and are struggling with your weight then you need to make contact us so we can help you become happier and healthier. Thanks to all our wonderful Clients, Family and Friends. Bexblah Beauty This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens

Hello beautiful people, I hope you’re all having a fantastic week. It’s no secret I love makeup. I love full glam, lashes, highlight that you can see from space and eyeshadow blended to perfection. But working as a Makeup Artist on a beauty counter can take a toll on my skin, sometimes I could be working up to six days in a row! I really make an effort to take care of my skin and maybe not wear makeup on my days off, and by maybe I mean I’m completely barefaced. I always cleanse my skin twice a day with my Clarisonic and make sure my skin is completely clean going to bed but I still feel sometimes my skin needs a break. So this week I’m going to share my top tips on My Makeup Detox. 1. STILL CLEANSE Even when you’re not wearing makeup, you still need to cleanse tone and moisturise your skin every morning and night. There is dirt everywhere and that dirt will build up on your skin if you don’t clean it . 2. WATER WATER WATER - Staying hydrated is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your skin. You could use the most expensive products

in the world but if you’re not drinking enough water your skin will look dull and dehydrated. 3. FACEMASK IT UP There’s no better feeling than my skin after a facemask. Although I would like to say I do one once a week, I don’t. When choosing a facemask, make sure to choose one that will suit your skin type. If you have dry skin, choose a hydrating mask such as the Glam Glow Thirstymud. If you have acne prone skin, choose a clarifying mask such as the Origins Clear Improvement Mask. If you want luminous skin choose the Lancôme Advanced Genifique mask. My tried and trusted facemask brands include, GlamGlow, Lancôme, Clarins, Trilogy and Origins, yes there are no “drugstore” brands in there simply because in my line of work we’re taught to take good care of our skin so I feel you get what you pay for in most cases. Not saying I spend a fortune on skincare but I definitely spend that bit extra. Obviously some of the cheaper priced brands are

decent, but just make sure to do a bit of research before using them. Your skin will thank you. 4. GET A FACIAL - If you’ve never had a facial and are looking to treat yourself, I would highly recommend it. Personally I have made a deal with myself that i’ll get one facial every 12 weeks from now on, simply because it has been over a year since I’ve gotten one. Also if

you have no idea about products or what skin type you have it’s great to get a facial as the person doing it will tell you everything you need to know about your skin.

So everyone, that’s what I do to get ‘The Perfect Brows’. Head over to my Facebook page ‘Bexblah’ to stay updated! And leave any suggestions you may have there. I’m also on Instagram @bexblah and twitter @bexblah. Stay Gorge,

FITNESS!

HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!

This week I’m going to be talking about something I feel very strongly about, losing weight fast. ‘Quick Fixes’, ‘Lose 10 pounds in 4 weeks’, ‘6 weeks to abs’ and things along that line. For SO long I wanted the quick fix, I wanted to change my entire body in 12 weeks and would set insane and unrealistic goals. I would google ‘ways to lose 3 stone in 3 months’, ‘lose weight fast’ and all these other crazy things. Quick fixes are attractive because when you want to lose weight, you want to do it fast and easily. Companies make millions selling ‘Quick Fixes’ ’10 minute Ab workouts’ and ’12 week body transformations’, why do they make millions? Because they’re all targeting the same type of person, the person who wants quick results – but here’s the thing, quick results don’t last, they’re not sustainable and realistically, they will set you back. I was the girl who would make a resolution in January, then get caught up with progress, time and why it all wasn’t happening fast enough. I would fall off track because I was trying quick fixes that weren’t working… then in April I would

20

TRALEE ADVERTISER

think, ‘If only I stuck to the plan in January I would be so much closer to my goal’ or ‘It’s so close to Summer now I don’t have enough time to lose weight’. All of these thoughts that now make so little sense. I just wanted the quick fix, the easiest option. The reality is, if you have a high body fat percentage and a lot of weight to lose, quick fixes might work for a certain amount of time, but more than likely one or all of the following will happen. 1. You’ll end up with sagging skin in areas if you lose weight too fast and don’t build muscle. 2. You’ll quit because you aren’t seeing results fast enough. 3. Your plan won’t be sustainable and too restrictive and therefore will set you back. 4. You’ll end up damaging your metabolism. 5. You’ll end up damaging your health. Think of why you want to get in shape and change your body. Is it to look good in a bikini? Is it because Summer is 3 months away? Is it to please another

Friday 7th April 2017

person? … Or … Is it to benefit your health? Gain strength? Become more confident in yourself? If it is the latter, great! But you have to be prepared to work hard and take time. In fact, don’t even think about how long it is going to take, I know it’s cliché but you HAVE to just take it day by day and trust the process. I finally last year just decided enough was enough, I took it day by day, week by week and tracked my slow progress and kept balance in my life. And now, I’m happier than ever. I set small achievable goals and a don’t

put a time frame on things like ‘I want to be down 30 pounds in 2 months’, I just work hard and see how my body reacts to what I’m doing. There is no big rush, I don’t want to lose an insane amount of weight really fast and have extra skin on my stomach and chest, I want to be strong, fit and healthy for life, not just for the Summer. So next time you’re tempted by a ‘Lose 7 pounds in 7 days’ diet, think about it a bit more about what you really want.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2017

Wild Wild Leeks

Well folks I have a ton of emails about wild garlic and requests for more recipes with it. so of course here are two more wild garlic grows wild all over Kerry and couldn’t be easier to pick and use, use it in place of garlic and herbs in any dish and you can my back recipes from the Tralee advertiser and much more about the food scene around Kerry and its chefs on www.traleeculinarygangsters.wordpress.com

WILD GARLIC AND SAUSAGE FUSILLI

I bought sausages from sasta at Tralee farmers market for this dish

INGREDIENTS • • • • •

2 heaped teaspoons fennel seeds 2 dried red chillies , crumbled olive oil 4 higher-welfare coarse Italian or butcher sausages 4 handfuls wild garlic leaves , washed, plus 4 handfuls of spinach leaves, washed 320 g fusilli 1 lemon sea salt freshly ground black pepper 1 small handful Parmesan cheese , freshly grated, plus extra for serving

• • • • •

METHOD

Bash up the fennel seeds and chillies in a pestle and mortar, then put to one side. Heat a splash of olive oil in a pan on a medium heat. Cut open the sausage skins and squeeze the meat into the pan. Stir it around with a wooden spoon, breaking it up into small pieces so it resembles coarse mince. Fry for a few minutes until the meat starts to colour and the fat has started to render out. Add the bashed up fennel seeds and chillies to the meat, and cook on a medium heat for around 10 minutes until the meat is crisp, dark golden brown and caramelised. Turn the heat down to low. Put a large saucepan of salted water on to boil. If you managed to get hold of wild garlic leaves, simply blanch them in the boiling water for 3 minutes, then scoop out and put in a food processor. If you aren’t using wild garlic, add the garlic cloves to the water and cook for 3 to 4 minutes before adding the spinach. Cook for another 3 to 4 minutes, until the spinach has wilted, then fish out all the spinach and the garlic cloves with a slotted spoon, and put it all into a food processor. Add the fusilli to the water, bring it back to the boil and cook according to the packet instructions. Blitz the wild garlic leaves or the cooked garlic and spinach in the food processor, until you have a deep green sauce, then add a lug of olive oil, a grating of lemon zest and a pinch of salt and pepper. When the pasta is al dente, drain it in a colander, reserving some of the cooking water. Put the pasta back in the saucepan and add a splash of the cooking water and a squeeze of lemon juice. Gently stir the lovely green sauce into the pasta to coat it then immediately divide the pasta between your bowls. Top with the delicious crisp sausage meat and a nice grating of Parmesan cheese, and serve.

WILD GARLIC CHICKEN KIEV INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • •

4 skinless chicken breasts 100g wild garlic butter, 50g plain flour, well seasoned 3 large egg, beaten 125g panko or coarse dried breadcrumbs sunflower oil, for frying mixed leaves, to serve lemon wedges, to serve

METHOD 1. 2.

3.

Slice a deep pocket in each chicken breast. To do this, insert a deep knife into the thickest end of the breast. Keep pushing down along the breast, about halfway into the fillet, being careful not to cut all the way through. Push your finger down into the hole to open it, then stuff with 25g wild garlic butter, making sure that it goes all the way into the pocket. Repeat the process with the remaining chicken breasts. Line up 3 shallow bowls and put the flour in the first, the beaten eggs in the second and the breadcrumbs in the third. Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, then coat in the eggs and lastly the breadcrumbs. Dip each one in the eggs for a second time, then coat again in the breadcrumbs. Transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining stuffed chicken breasts. Cover the plate with cling film and chill for at least 1 hr. When you are ready to eat, heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Fill a pan 2cm deep with oil and set over a medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the Kievs for 2-3 mins each side until golden brown, then transfer to a baking tray. Recipes by Pop in the oven for 15 mins or until cooked through. Serve with salad leaves and a lemon wedge to squeeze over.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... FIRST THREE TRALEE BUSINESS PEOPLE AWARDS PRESENTED TO BREEDA HURLEY, BILLY NOLAN AND DAN HORAN BREEDA Hurley, Billy Nolan and Dan Horan, three outstanding business people who have shown extraordinary commitment to their customers and the town of Tralee, have won Tralee Business People Awards for January, February and March 2017. The new monthly award from Tralee Chamber Alliance recognises people who have made a positive impact to Tralee through their business and working lives. The President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, John Drummey, said: “Breeda, Billy and Dan employ over 200 people between them and deserve to be recognised for the work they do to improve and enhance life the lives of those around them every day. We are delighted to shine a light on them for contributing to the economic and community development of the town over the course of their careers.” Breeda Hurley, a Traleenative, is the Managing Director of the multi awardwinning family-run ABC Cleaning. She is a business woman, author, wife and mother of eight children.

Breeda has worked tirelessly throughout her life to support her family and create employment for hundreds of people in the locality. Over 20 years ago and after a number of personal and business struggles, Breeda set up ABC Cleaning which now employs over 140 people, many of whom are in Tralee. ABC has supported the local community in many ways without making a big deal about it. It has volunteered its services to charities and people who were affected by flooding and fire damage over the years. Breeda is always giving her time and knowledge to help other young business people in the town and is a very active networker and supporter of town initiatives. On May 12th next Breeda will launch her first book entitled ‘Survive and Thrive’ at the Rose Hotel, Tralee. Billy Nolan, began his business more than 51 years ago in Tralee, starting out to provide quality service and products to his customers in 1966. LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! GENTLEMAN

Despite the fact that I’m a gentleman, I have no luck with women, I just always seem to screw things up. Recently I saw an attractive woman. I decided to open the doors for her. Unfortunately, she got sucked out of the plane.

TWO COWS ARE STANDING IN A BARN. Cow 1: Hey, did you hear about the big outbreak of mad cow disease? Cow 2: Good thing I’m a helicopter.

I WENT TO SEE THE CHRISTMAS PLAY AT MY LOCAL PRIMARY SCHOOL THE OTHER DAY And the scene where the 3 Wise Men bring gifts to Baby Jesus was approaching. The second class pupils walked to center stage one after another, faced Baby Jesus, and placed their gifts on the ground one at a time. “I bring you gold” the first child said “I bring you myrrh” the second child said “Frank sent this” the last child said.

GUY GETS PULLED OVER BY A COP AT MIDNIGHT: “And where are you rushing to sir?” “Officer, I’m attending a lecture on drinking and driving.” “Is that so? Who is giving a lecture at this time of the night?” “My wife.”

PLANS FOR EASTER Wife: What are your plans for Easter? Husband: Same as Jesus.. Wife: What do you mean ?? Husband:I will disappear on Friday and reappear on Monday!!

WHY WERE THE INDIANS HERE FIRST? Because they had reservations.

DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PEOPLE IN DUBAI AND PEOPLE IN ABU DHABI? Well, the people in Dubai don’t like the Flintstones, but the people in Abu-Dhabi-Do.

THE JUDGE A judge was interviewing a woman regarding her pending divorce, and asked, “What are the grounds for your divorce?” She replied, “About four acres and a nice little home in the middle of the property with a stream running by”. “No” he said, “I mean what is the foundation of this case?”. “It is made of concrete, brick and mortar”, she responded. “I mean” he continued, “What are your relations like?”. “I have an aunt and uncle living here in town, and so do my husband’s parents”. He said, “Do you have a real grudge?” “No,” she replied, “We have a two-car carport and have never really needed one”. “Please,” he tried again, “Ma’am, does your husband ever beat you up?”. “Yes,” she responded, “about twice a week he gets up earlier than I do”. Finally, in frustration, the judge asked, “Lady, why do you want a divorce?” “Oh, I don’t want a divorce” she replied. “I’ve never wanted a divorce. My husband does. He said he can’t communicate with me!”

BEING MARRIED

coffee morning

After being married for thirty years, a wife asked her husband to describe her. He looked at her for a while, then said, “You’re an alphabet wife A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K.” She asks ...”What does that mean?” He said: “Adorable, Beautiful, Cute, Delightful, Elegant, Fabulous, Gorgeous, and Hot”. Smiling she said “ah I really do love you but what does the I, J, K, stand for?”. He said “I’m Just Kidding!”

INTERNATIONAL RADIO PRIZE FOR TRALEE SOUND ENGINEER, BRIAN Tralee sound engineer Brian Nammock, based in RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s Baile na nGall studio in Corca Dhuibhne, has received an international award for his work on Philip King’s South Wind Blows radio programme. A recording of The Snows they melt the soonest sung by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and accompanied by Donogh Hennessy for The South Wind Blows Christmas special on RTÉ Radio 1 was awarded the Svetozár Stračina Grand Prix in Bratislava this week for excellence in sound quality and technique. The sound recording was by Brian

Nammock. There were 45 entries in total in the competition from all over Europe, particularly Eastern Europe, but also India, Vietnam, China, and a seven-member international jury chose the winners. RTÉ Radio last won this prize in the 1980s. Brian Nammock, originally from Boherbuee in Tralee, is Regional Production and Sound Engineer for RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta in Munster, working on all their live programmes, as well as outside broadcasts and recordings in studio and on location. He is also sound

engineer for RTÉ Radio 1’s The South Wind Blows programme, recorded in the RnaG studios in Baile na nGall each week. He started his radio career in Radio Kerry, where he worked for over 6 years, starting while he was still in school. While there, he produced the award-winning Terrace Talk programme. He subsequently worked for RTÉ TV in Dublin on various programmes, progressing to Floor Manager for shows including Fair City and The Late Late Show. He returned to Kerry in 2014 and lives with his wife Jessica and their two children in Tralee.

WARRIORS DO THE DOUBLE DOUBLE AT BASKETBALL IRELAND AWARDS The winners of the Basketball Ireland Players and Coaches of the Month awards for March have been announced this week In the Men’s Super League, it’s a double run of wins for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors as, for the second month in a row, both star player Trae Pemberton and Head Coach, Mark Bernsen have scooped the Player and Coach of the Month awards. The wins come just after the Kerry team secured the Champions Trophy title in an overtime thriller against Templeogue on Sunday to finish off their season in style. The double awards for clubs continues in Division One, with Keane’s SuperValu Killorglin bagging both the Men’s Player and Coach of the Month awards, with Garny Garcia Nivar scooping the player title and Coach James Weldon bagging the coaching accolade.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: FARM ASSIST MEANS TEST Question How is income from different sources assessed for Farm Assist? I do some contracting as well as farming and my spouse works part-time. We have two children.

ENDA WISHES WELL TO THE ROSE HOTEL

Taoiseach Enda Kenny wishes a good year to owners of the Rose Hotel , Dick & Eileen at the recent Cantillon Conference . Also pictured are General Manager Mark O Sullivan and Marketing Director Michele King

Answer The means test for Farm Assist takes into account virtually every type of income you may have but it assesses different income in different ways. Your income from farming and other self-employment (like contracting) is assessed as the gross income that you or your spouse may be expected to receive, less any expenses you incur to earn that income. From 8 March 2017, €254 of the income each year is disregarded for each of your two children (it would be €381 for a third or subsequent child). 70% of the balance is assessed (it was 100% up to March 2017). Payments under rural environmental schemes such as GLAS and SAC are assessed separately from other farm income. €2,540 is deducted from the total amount of all these payments each year and 50% of the remainder is disregarded. Expenses incurred in complying with these environmental measures are then deducted and the balance is assessed as means. Income from an occupational pension or leasing of land or milk quotas is assessed in full. Capital (including any property that you do not live in) is assessed using the formula applied to means-tested social welfare payments. If you have an off-farm job, €20 per day (up to a maximum of €60 per week) is deducted from your assessable weekly earnings and then 60% of the remainder is assessed as weekly means. Your spouse’s income from employment is assessed in the same way. If you have seasonal work, you are assessed on your earnings only during the period you are actually working. When you apply for Farm Assist, a social welfare inspector will visit you and ask to see various documents. The inspector will then assess the costs incurred in running the farm. You are entitled to receive a copy of this farm income calculation. You can get detailed information on how farm income is assessed at welfare.ie. Further information is available from the Citizens Information Centre below.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR SOME WEEK FOR KERRY FOOTBALL: Last Sunday afternoon those involved in Kerry football would have been forgiven for planning for a break until the Championship starts. By 5pm Kerry had qualified for the League Final with a crack at Dublin the prize. The next day Colm Cooper announced his retirement and Eamonn Fitzmaurice gave one of his most wide ranging interviews stating that he believed there was a ‘complete lack of balance’ regarding coverage of Kerry’s alleged physical approach when they recently played Dublin. To take the sequence in order Kerry probably hoped more than believed that they could make it to the League final but probably would have been happy to put in a good performance in front of their home crowd. But by putting up a big score and other results going their way they have a big date with destiny and a crack at winning that elusive League title. And of course Dublin will not want to lose that long long unbeaten run so it should be a cracker – even if it probably will not have any real bearing on the Championship. But it will give some of the younger players another day out in what should be a cauldron atmosphere. On Colm Cooper what can be said has been said at this stage. Suffice to say this as the story is 5 days old is that his likes will never be seen again. As they say Thanks for the Memories Colm. And on Eamonn’s interview it’s certainly a change of approach from the normally reserved manager. Not one to get involved in mind games Fitzmaurice has been pushed into replying because of what he sees as “a narrative out there at the moment and one I don’t think is balanced.” It is hard to see why some people are surprised that Kerry have 40

TRALEE ADVERTISER

a ‘hard edge’. As Eamonn said all teams that are successful have to have this. Timing is everything in sport and of course this is meant to rack up pressure on the referee for the weekends game. All he wants and all any player and manager wants is a level playing field. Hopefully Eamonn intervention will see that in play for the League final. ROSE HOTEL RALLY A SUCCESS BUT NUMBERS A WORRY: The Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally was another great success with the weather cooperating to ensure the crowds on the stages were treated to some top class rallying. There was great Kerry interest at the head of the field with Beaufort co-driver Diarmuid Falvey becoming the 4th Kerry co-driver to take the win – the others being John Crone (1989), Paul Nagle (2004) and Fionn Foley (2012). He was alongside Antrim’s Derek McGarrity as the duo led from start to finish in the Fiesta World Rally CAR. McGarrity and Falvey set the fastest time on Stage 1, Knight’s Mountain, and never looked back. Kenny McKinstry was another big draw and he took second but was always chasing the winners times after losing too much on the morning loop. Ballyduff native and Maynooth resident Kevin Barrett has a huge involvement in rallying including with his Triton Showers company sponsorship. Here he was out in his Subaru Impreza and along with Sean Mullally they were the top Kerry Motor Club crew taking third place, completing a hattrick of wins in the rally. But they had to hold off a huge charge from husband and wife team of Sean and Katrina Liston in their BMW and they were rewarded with the Drive of the Day. There was a great battle for Friday 7th April 2017

the places in the top ten by the Kerry drivers. Kerry Motor Club’s Tim Enright finished sixth and second in Class 13 in his Ford Escort M2. Just three seconds separated him and fellow club members Tom Relihan and Maurice McElligott in an Escort Mk1. Charlie and Johnny Hickey were the top Killarney and District Motor Club crew in another Escort, they finished ninth and second in Class 14, one place ahead of Tommy Mason and Timmy Murphy in another Escort. Darren Young and Sean Walsh won Class 11 in their Honda Civic and won the West Coast Performance Services stage sponsor Award for being the fastest Class IIF over Knights Mountain. Tralee navigator Sean Hegarty finished second in Class Two alongside his Limerick driver Keith Lyons. Pat Barry and Stephen Buckley were another all Kerry crew to make the finish line in their Sierra Cosworth , as did Mike Kenny and Gene Stack who were competing in their first rally for seven years in their Ford Escort. They also won class 12 and finished one place ahead of Ger O’Brien and John Liston and two places ahead of Sean Enright and Conor Walsh. Tralee-based co-driver Mikie Cleary was another on the finishers list. PJ O’Dowd and John Young won the historic rally in their Talbot Sunbeam but had to burn the midnight oil in the run up to the rally. A new engine was fitted on Friday night and the gearbox came out on Saturday to replace the clutch disc. The Kerry Motor Club wish to thank all of the stage residents and landowners who allowed us to use their roads, the event sponsors and advertisers who funded the event, the volunteer officials and marshals who organised the event and the competitors who made it happen.

Downside: The lack of entries was something that Clerk of the Course Richard Talbot said was worrying for the sport. With an entry fee of e800, including the e279 insurance levy, and the number of events in close proximity crews have to pick and choose. If entries keep falling then motor clubs lose out on revenue and that will affect their ability to put on rallies so it’s a Catch 22 situation. I am sure the situation regarding the insurance will be the subject of much more discussion during the season. TRALEE BOXING CLUB’S READY FOR NEXT WEEKEND: The Tralee Boxing club has 2 boxers ready for their Munster Championship Boys 1,2,3 finals next weekend. Christopher Mongan will take on Padraig O’Sullivan from Bantry BC in the Boy 1 48kg final. To get there he out-boxed his opponent Jason Dawson (St Francis BC, Limerick) winning 4-1. Patrick McCarthy will have an early start as he enters the ring at 11am on Saturday in the Irish 48kg Boy 4 Irish Championship final. He meets St Aidan’s BC Wicklow Keelyn Roche in the decider with his opponent a renowned big body puncher. McCarthy is Kerry’s only remaining representative in the Boys section and has been outclassing his opponents throughout the championships. While this will be a big test for Tralee fighter it is one he can overcome to take the title. DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR WARRIORS AFTER CUP SUCCESS: The winners of the Basketball Ireland Players and Coaches of the Month awards for March have been announced. In the Men’s Super League, it’s a double run of wins for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors as, for the second month in a row, both star player Trae Pemberton and Head Coach, Mark Bernsen have scooped the Player and Coach of the Month awards. To make it a great week for Kerry basketball Keane’s Supervalu Killorglin are also celebrating a double award with Coach James Weldon and Grany Garcia Nivar scooping the Men’s Division 1 Coach and Player of the Month Awards. The wins for Warriors come just after the Kerry team secured the Champions Trophy title in an overtime thriller against Templeogue on Sunday to finish off their season in style. Kieran Donaghy can add another chapter to the next

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER print run of his book following the wins in Letterkenny at the weekend. The Star hit the winner in the nail biting 66-64 semi-final win over Griffith Swords Thunder on Saturday. And the final was even more of a thriller with Regular season champions Templeogue their opponents. They looked like completing the double as they were up by 3 with less than 8 seconds to go in overtime. Donaghy had gone coast to coast and made a huge lay-up to tie the game at 66 a piece forcing the added period. Pemberton attempted a three pointer but it came back off the rim. Donaghy rose highest to claim the rebound and set up Pemberton who drained the three to tie the game. Warriors then won the in-bound and when Donaghy was fouled he made 1 of the free throws to win the game 74-73 and send the huge traveling crowd into raptures. This week has been a dream for all those who worked so hard to get the Warriors up and running and SuperLeague basketball back to Tralee. The huge support that have garnered this season will now be eagerly looking forward to next season. The u14’s were in action in mid-week when they were away to Templenoe/Sneem/ Derrynane in the second round of the County League. The u16’s were involved in a cracker at home to Ballymacelligott in the Central League winning by 1 point after the sides hit a combined 6 goals and 21 points between them. This was a game of two halves as St Pat’s led 2-07 to 0-03 at one stage. In the end they just got over the line 3-11 to 3-10. The Seniors had a free week last week but are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Glenbeigh for a 6pm throw-in. After Round 3 there will be the opening round of the Club Championship with the date depending on the progression of Kerry in the u21 Championship. The club minor teams have had some time off as the Kerry minors get set to welcome Clare as they begin their defence of their Munster and All Ireland titles. The Clare game is set for Wednesday night April 12th at Austin Stacks Park. KERIN’S O’RAHILLY’S NEWS: The Junior Blues had another great morning in Ballyrickard and this weekend they are looking forward to facing St Pat’s. Well done to the following who were named Player of the Week at the various ages: U6 Girls Nicola Corridon, u6 Boys Tadgh Lawlor, u8/u10 Girls Mia Moloney, u8 Boys Evan McCarthy and u10 boys Nick Lacey. New members are always welcome to Healy Park for training on Sunday mornings at 11am. The u12’s are set to play Keel at home in their next County League game with the throw in down for this Sunday April 9th at 6pm. The u14’s played away to Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane in mid-week while the u16’s will travel to Annascaul/Lispole next Monday night at 7pm. In the Ladies section the u12 Girls Round 2 game of the North Kerry League was postponed. The girls were due to face Na Gaeil. The Girls are also asked to note that outdoor training for the u12’s is now on Wednesdays from 6.15pm. The u14’s are also training outdoors and they go on Tuesday nights in Ballyrickard from 6.30pm.Core training Friday 7th April 2017

sessions are in the CBS The Green on Wednesdays from 6 to 7pm. The u16 Girls train on Tuesday and Thursday nights while core training is the same time as the u14’s. Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 4,15,19 and 29 with the next Jackpot being e6,900. The club has a full range of activities going on all week in Charlies Bar. TRALEE’S YOUNG RUGBY STARS: The Tralee Rugby Club under 11’s did the club proud when they came away from the Joe Moran Blitz in Naas RFC with the winner’s trophy. Over 50 teams took part made up of 700 players from all over the country so this was a huge win for the town’s young rugby players who delighted their coaches and travelling support with their skills. HARRIERS SUCCESS IN ATHLONE: The latest day’s competition at the Irish Life Health National Indoor Juvenile Championships saw Rachel Bowler unfortunately withdrawing from the Triple Jump with injury after four jumps. She had been hoping to emulate her bronze medal in the Long jump from the previous weekend. Orla O’Reilly was very unlucky to miss out on the final by 0.03 seconds having run a great pb of 26.36 in the u18 200m. Cillian Griffin made the final 6 of the u16 200m. The Kerry Junior, Senior and Masters championships will take place on Good Friday, April 14th at 4pm in Castleisland . The Munster Junior and u23 Championships and Juvenile Pentathlons take place on Saturday April 22nd in Waterford. On the Green: In the Master Classic Number 1 sponsored by Grove Farm Hugh O’Callaghan took the honours from Derek O’Brien and Allan O’Connor. The Best Gross was won by Anton O’Callaghan and the 18+ handicap prize went to Paddy O’Callaghan. The Ladies Club Singles sponsored by Billy Nolan was won by Geraldine Reen with Elaine McCarthy second and Niamh Carmody third.

MIRACLE PRAYERS THE MIRACLE PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked for many favours, this time I ask you this special one (mention favour). Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Father sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer.
