One lucky Tralee Credit Union member has just won a brand new 162 Car in their Members Car Draw. Linda O’Connor from Oakpark, Tralee won a brand new Nissan Pulsar. CELEBRATIONS AT ST.BRENDANS NATIONAL SCHOOL IN FENIT

The staff, pupils and parents of St. Brendan’s N.S. Fenit held a special celebration day last Friday 24th June. They were celebrating all their hard work and achievements. They were awarded their 4th Green Flag for Travel. Ms. Angela Wall, Green School co-ordinator, made a special appearance and raised the flag. They were also recognised as a Healthy Ireland Health Promoting School. 5th/6th Class spent this year learning all about the E.U. and this hard work paid off when we were awarded the Blue Star Flag and certificate. The school community was just about to begin our flag raising event when a courier arrived with a package containing yet another flag - The Digital School of Distinction. The assembled parents and grandparents were entertained by a medley of traditional Irish tunes performed by 3rd/4th Class, conducted by Ms. Aoife O’Connor. In recognition of the children’s hard work, and participation in all these programmes, the ice-cream van paid us a visit and we all indulged. The excitement was electric! This wonderful day would not have been possible without Ms. Caroline O’Connor, our Green School co-ordinator, and the support she received from the rest of the staff, Parents’ Council and Board of Management. 10

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: STATE PENSIONS AND QUALIFIED ADULTS

TECHNOLOGY CORNER Billy O Meara (HRI Services)

Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology Question:

I had Virgin formally UPC, If I want to get the channels / sky TV.. what are my options? If you watch sport then Sky would be you best solution, because you can subscribe to Sky Sports. If you have fibre broadband you can get E-vision from Eir or Vodafone TV from Vodafone. But if you just want extra choices you could install a Free to Air system which would give you extra channels, for example, BBC1, BBC2, UTV SKY NEWS and many more. There is no subscription for the Free to Air system. There is also a “recorder box for the free to air systems” which will record the UK channels and has series link. You may need to get a saorview aerial to receive the Irish channels. Question:

How do I keep my laptop battery in good health?

All laptop batteries are built to handle a certain number of usage cycles, estimated roughly around 500, and often more. Each cycle of use decreases the battery’s capacity, so the less you drain it, the longer it’ll last — all other things being equal so when you are using your laptop plugged in, it is a good idea to remove it. Never let your battery discharge fully. Heat breaks down the battery, and reduces its overall life. When you use your laptop, make sure the vents are unblocked. Never work with the laptop on pillows or cushions. If possible, put it on a raised stand that allows for plenty of airflow.

My Offer of the Month

Anyone who wants to move /or has to move from Virgin Media (formerly UPC) ... to one of my 'Free to Air' Satellite systems (€200 + No Bills!) will get a FREE SAORVIEW Aerial (worth €80) OFFER AVAILABLE UNTIL July 31st

Billy *Terms and conditions apply

Question I am retiring from work when I turn 66 and will be eligible for a reduced-rate State Pension (Contributory) of €198.60. My husband is getting his full State Pension (Contributory) of €233. He thinks we would be better off if he claimed for me as a qualified adult on his pension. Is he correct? If we do this, will all the money be paid to him? Answer If your husband claims for you as a qualified adult on his pension, then his pension will consist of €233 plus an increase of €209 – a total of €442. The increase is automatically paid directly to you (although you can request that it is paid with your husband’s pension). If you decide to claim a reduced rate contributory pension then the total for you both will be €431.60. Therefore, it would appear that you are indeed better off being a qualified adult. However, there are other factors that you should take into account. While your husband’s pension is not means tested, the Increase for a Qualified Adult is means tested. This means that any income you have in your own right from employment, self-employment, savings, investments and capital (for example, any property except your own home) is taken into account. If you have joint savings or investments with your spouse, half is taken into account. You also need to look at the tax situation. Your husband is entitled to claim a PAYE tax credit (€1,650) with his pension. Even though the Increase for a Qualified Adult is paid directly to you it is not a social welfare payment to you so you cannot claim a PAYE tax credit of €1,650. However if you claim a social welfare payment in your own right (for example, your reduced-rate pension) you can claim a full PAYE tax credit. You should analyse both options carefully and do detailed calculations, taking all the factors that affect how much you receive into account. After you do the calculations, you may find that you are better off claiming the reduced-rate contributory pension in your own right.

TRALEE SPORTS CENTRE HOSTS ANNUAL SCHOOLS SWIMMING GALA

A sense of anticipation surrounded the sports centre on the morning of Wednesday June 22, as the centre prepared to host primary schools from around the county taking part in the annual schools gala. Participants from primary schools started arriving from 1 pm onwards. The tension was palpable as the first event the 2 widths for armband swimmers commenced. Spectators were treated to some superb swimming as all participants gave it their all in the quest for success. Each participant received a goodie pack in recognition for their efforts not only at the swimming gala but also during the year attending the Tralee Sports Centre’s primary schools swimming program . The gala reached its climax with the exciting relay races and the awarding of the perpetual trophy to the overall winning school which was once again won by Scoil Eoin, Balloonagh. Bexblah Beauty This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens Hello hello my beautiful friends! I hope you’re all having a fab week! This week is all about two of my favourite things, nails and brows. You all know by now that I absolutely love having my nails done, I feel like they complete any look. While I was doing my Makeup & Skincare course I wasn’t allowed to have my claws so as soon as I finished I went straight to Inga from Nails By Inga in Sean Taaffe Tralee. I went for something completely different to what I usually get, I got pastel pink & blue coffin shaped nails. This picture was taken today, two weeks after I got my nails done and they’re still perfect. No breakages, chips or fading. I love the coffin shape nails lately rather than the stiletto shape, a shape also favoured by Kylie Jenner.

Now onto brows, I have been going to Jurga for years now and she has most definitely transformed my brows. I think brows are so personal and everyone has different preferences and brow artists they trust. In Tralee, we are spoilt for choice with beauty therapists who specialise in brows, my choice is Jurga from Sean Taaffe. When I was in my teens, over tweezing your brows was for some insane reason ‘in fashion’, I wish someone would have pulled that tweezers right out of my hand. But all hope was not lost, thanks to Jurga my brows have gone from tiny to thick and on point if I do say so myself. I get my brows done every 8-10 weeks depending, I don’t have much growth so I can get away with that. And I always always go to Jurga, I think it’s important to find one brow gal to sort you out and who you trust and always return to her. Jurga knows how I like my brows and always does an amazing job so that’s exactly why I go back to her.

Stay Gorge,

Bexblah. Attention BexBlah Readers!

Bexblah Fitness! Hello my strong friends, I hope you’re all having a great week! As I’ve mentioned I’m doing online coaching with Rob Lipsett for 6 weeks and I’m bang in the middle of my third week now. I just had a check in with Rob and in his words “I’m smashing it”! Rob’s plan includes a 6 Day Rotating Split with different emphasis days made for fat loss, conditioning and a higher level of intensity. So I train each body part twice a week, it’s divided into Chest & Back day, Legs & Abs day, and Shoulders & Arms day. I’m really enjoying the training and I find my strength(especially in my arms) is increasing. My programme is very weights focused, with either HIIT or LISS training twice a week.

I measured myself for the first time since the 28th of January and here are my results so far…

28th January 2016 Waist - 38.5 inches Hips - 50.5 inches Bust - 44.5 inches Thigh - 31 & ¼ inches

Measurements 28 June Waist - 34 inches 4.5 inch loss Hips - 46 inches 4.5 inch loss Bust - 41 inches 3.5 inch loss Thigh - 29 & ¾ inches 1.5 inch loss

Remember it’s not always about the scales. I always find measurements interesting as if you’re building muscle your weight might not always be down but you may be smaller overall. As with the food side of the plan, I’m working everything into my macros, if I know I’m going out for dinner I will make choices that fit my goals for that day. I went out twice last week for the Euros(huge soccer fan obviously) but I stayed on track with my training and managed my food as best I could and didn’t end up going up in weight or anything. It’s all about balance and not revolving your entire life around the gym and when your next meal is. If you do that, you might end up just going off the plan altogether and not going back. I know, I’ve done it plenty of times, PLENTY. With the online coaching with Rob, he’s so personal to me and my goals and that’s exactly what I need. I don’t want someone who gives me the exact plan they give everyone and tells me to eat 6 meals a day, cause that doesn’t suit me or my lifestyle. There’s plenty of personal trainers in Tralee to choose from but before you spend your money, have a chat to them, see what they offer, see if it suits you, see if they will tailor their plan to you personally. If they won’t, I don’t think it’s worth your money. If you’re interested in online coaching, check out Rob at Lipsettfitness.com, you can even email him first to see what he’s all about, if you do, tell him I sent you!

INGREDIENTS

Preheat oven to 220C. To make bread, sift flour, bicarbonate, baking powder, sugar and 1 teaspoon salt into a bowl. Stir in 2 tablespoons oats and butter. Rub in butter, then stir in buttermilk until mixture forms large clumps. On a floured work surface, form into a 15cm round. Place on an oven tray lined with baking paper. Using the back of a knife, score the top into 6 wedges. Brush with a little extra buttermilk, scatter with remaining oats and bake for 20 minutes. Reduce oven to 190C and bake for a further 10 minutes or until golden. Heat butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add eschalots and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until soft. Add chilli and flour, and stir for 1 minute. Gradually stir in cider and bring to the boil. Add mussels and any juices, cover with a lid and cook for 5 minutes, shaking the pan occasionally, or until mussels open. Meanwhile, combine mayonnaise, cream and garlic. Place mussels in a large bowl, scatter with parsley and spoon over cooking juices. Serve with garlic mayonnaise and soda bread.

Heat oil in a large, deep saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, garlic and chilli. Cook, stirring, for 3 minutes or until onion is soft. Add tomato paste and cook for 1 minute. Add tomato, lemon rind, lemon juice, sugar and wine to pan. Stir until well combined. Increase heat to high. Bring sauce to the boil. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer, uncovered, for 8 to 10 minutes or until thick. Season with salt and pepper. Add mussels to sauce. Cover and cook, shaking pan occasionally, for 3 to 5 minutes or until mussel shells open. Discard unopened shells. Ladle sauce and mussels into bowls. Sprinkle with parsley. Serve with bread.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... STUNNING BEAUTY OF KERRY SHOWCASED IN LAST WEEKS TOP GEAR Popular TV show will be huge boost to the Kingdom’s tourist industry Kerry Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, said this week that last Sunday nights Irish episode of Top Gear showcased the stunning beauty of Kerry and was brilliant publicity for all that the county has to offer. “I was delighted when I learned that Top Gear was coming to Kerry, having been in contact with the BBC since 2014, inviting Top Gear to the Wild Atlantic Way. I also raised the matter in the Dáil and with the tourism agencies. “Last Sunday the long-awaited Kerry special aired. Hosts Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc headed to Dingle to see whether the new Rolls-Royce Dawn could outclass its ancestor, a 1976 Corniche. “The episode was fantastic for Kerry, it was beautifully shot and painted Killarney, Kenmare and Dingle in a magnificent light. “Top Gear has huge viewership numbers in the UK and around the world and I have no doubt that last weeks episode will be very beneficial to Kerry and bring with it a great boost to the tourism sector in the county. “The BBC has done Kerry a great service. The hugely positive exposure and marketing that the county received last night would have been very expensive to buy and will have a large impact. It’s my hope that this will lead to increased bookings from the UK and beyond, as people chose Kerry and Ireland for their holidays.”

IT’S ONLY A JOKE THE FBI HAD AN OPEN POSITION FOR AN ASSASSIN

WHY DID I GET DIVORCED?

Well, last week was my After all the background checks, interviews and birthday. My wife didn’t wish testing were completed, they had narrowed the me a happy birthday. My parents forgot and so did my kids. I went to work and even my colleagues field down to 3 possible agents. For the final didn’t wish me a happy birthday. As I entered my test, the FBI agents took one of the men to a office, my secretary said, “Happy birthday, boss!” large metal door and handed him a gun. “We must know that you will follow your instructions I felt so special. She asked me out for lunch. After lunch, she invited me to her apartment. We went no matter what the circumstances.” there and she said, “Do you mind if I go into the Inside the room you will find your wife sitting bedroom for a minute?” “Okay,” I said. She came in a chair... we need you to kill her. The man said, “You can’t be serious. I could never shoot out 5 minutes later with a birthday cake, my wife, my wife.”’ The agent said, “Then you’re not the my parents, my kids, my friends, & my colleagues all yelling, “SURPRISE!!!” while I was waiting on right man for this job. Take your wife and go the sofa... naked !”. home.” The second man was given the same

instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about 5 minutes. The man came out with tears in his eyes, “I tried, but I can’t kill my wife.” The agent said, “You don’t have what it takes. Take your wife home.” Finally, the last man was given the same instructions, to kill his wife. He took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the man, wiping the sweat from his brow. “Some idiot loaded the gun with blanks’ he said. ‘I had to strangle her instead!

A PRECIOUS UGLY WOMAN... A precious ugly woman approached me at the bar, squeezed my behind and said, “Give me your number, you sexy hunk.” I said, “Have you got a pen?” She smiled and said, “Sure do!” I replied, “You’d better get back in it before your farmer notices you’re missing!”

A RUSSIAN COUPLE

A Russian couple are walking in Moscow when the man feels a drop hit his nose. “It’s raining,” he says. “No,” says his wife, “It’s snowing.” And they begin to argue. Finally, the man says, “ Let’s ask comrade Rudolph what the official weather is.” They approach and they ask him. “It is officially raining.” he says. The woman cries, “But it felt just like snow!” To which her husband says, “Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear!

THE LOVE DRESS

A mother-in-law stopped unexpectedly by the recently married couple’s house. She rang the doorbell and stepped into the house. She saw her daughter-in-law standing with no clothes on by the door. “What are you doing?” she asked. “I’m waiting for my husband to come home from work,” the daughter-in-law answered. “But you’re naked!” the mother-in-law exclaimed. “This is my love dress,” the daughter-in-law explained. “Love dress? But you’re naked!” “My husband loves me to wear this dress! It makes him happy and it makes me happy. I would appreciate it if you would leave because he will be home from work any minute.” The mother-in-law was tired of all this romantic talk and left. On the way home she thought about the love dress. When she got home she got undressed, showered, put on her best perfume and waited by the front door. Finally her husband came home. He walked in and saw her standing naked by the door. “What are you doing?” he asked. “This is my love dress,” she replied. Husband: “Needs ironing!”

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... CLUNE CALLS ON GOVT TO RETAIN 9% TOURIST VAT RATE AFTER BREXIT Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune has said that we need to continue to invest in our tourism product in the wake of the BrExit decision and any potential impact this may have on UK Tourists visiting Kerry. Speaking from an emergency session of the European Parliament in Brussels, the Ireland South MEP and member of the EU Tourism Taskforce said that Britain is the largest single market for tourism to the island of Ireland, delivering almost 50% of all overseas visitors and around one-third of all overseas tourism revenue. “26% of British holiday makers visit the South West of Ireland according to research carried out by Tourism Ireland and 27% of those surveyed cited the Ring of Kerry as one of the attractions that drew them to Ireland in the first place. I hope that the uncertainty surrounding BrExit, and in particular the fall off in the value of Sterling, does not impact on our tourism numbers in 2016. “I think it is imperative that we maintain the rate of VAT for hospitality at 9% and continue to invest in the marketing of the Wild Atlantic Way. What we need post BrExit is a clear strategy that looks at how tourism could be effected and how we plan to deal with the issues which may arise. Continuous surveys have shown that whilst the Wild Atlantic Way is well known in Ireland, its brand awareness hasn’t been as strong in some of our tourism markets. We need to advertise it more. “33% of British holiday makers to Ireland stay in hotels, 13% opt to stay in rented accommodation with 9% opting for Bed and Breakfasts. Should we see a falloff in numbers, this will have a disproportionate impact on rural Ireland, as it depends heavily on tourism revenue. The Ireland South MEP will shortly meet with her colleagues on the EU Tourism Taskforce to look at the pan European implications for tourism of a British Exit from the EU.

TORQUING CARS! MORE THAN 1,000 CARS PARKED AT GATWICK AIRPORT FOUND ‘DUMPED IN A MUDDY FIELD’

Rogue car parking agencies at Gatwick Airport are being investigated after more than 1,000 cars were found in a muddy field - many with the keys lodged under the windscreen wipers. Holidaymakers had paid for their cars to be locked in secure car parking places and their keys to be kept safely until they returned home from their breaks in the sun. However, trading standards officials and the police found one unlocked car boot filled with boxes of keys, while some cars had envelopes containing the keys tucked under the windscreen wipers - all in full view of a nearby road. Police have not disclosed the location of the field near the airport in a bid to keep the cars - some of which are covered in mud after the field was turned into a quagmire with the recent heavy rain - safe. Because of the condition of the field the cars would not have been able to drive, or even be towed away, officers said. There was no CCTV and during the search by police no staff from either of the five companies were on the site, which was advertised as secure. Officers from Sussex Police working with trading standards officials from Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council were investigating five companies that were running the illegal parking operations at the site. A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “The businesses claim to offer secure, reliable and affordable parking for people accessing the airport. “Officers are urging drivers to beware of rogue traders and only book with approved parking companies, pending the investigation. “Clearly, what is being advertised by these companies and what is actually happening are two completely different things, and we’d like to make people aware of this. “The simplest advice we can give is to look on the Gatwick Airport website for approved parking operators, and not opt for a company just because it is the cheapest. “The chances are, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

SECRET DESIGNS FOR RUSSIAN PRESIDENT’S BULLETPROOF PUTINMOBILE ARE LEAKED

Designs for the prototype were mistakenly published revealing what the next official armoured limousine of the Kremlin leader could look like when it comes into service in 2018 Secret designs for Vladimir Putin’s new bulletproof limousine - dubbed the Putinmobile - have been leaked online Black and white images show the new “patriotic” Russian-made presidential car that was tipped to show off the country’s manufacturing industry. But some have claimed the ‘patriotic’ armoured limousine, which will be brought into service in 2018, is made mostly from foreign parts- including a Porsche engine. The vehicles will also be available for oligarchs to purchase, but without the full range of sophisticated security protections designed for the Kremlin leader. Russian commentators have said the designs owe little to traditional Soviet sedans like the lugubrious Volga and Lada models, or even the Zils used to convey Communist leaders. They suggest it instead has filched elements of elite Western vehicles such as the Bentley Mulsanne, Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Chrysler 300C - a factor that may irk the antiWestern leader. Other reports claim up to 80% of its parts will be from foreign manufacturers, making a mockery of the hopes for it to showcase Russian manufacturers. The vehicle is coming into service in the same year the president’s current term of office is set to end, yet he is permitted one more six year stint at the Kremlin helm, which would allow him to take delivery of the new car around the time he hosts the next football World Cup.

REVISED RENAULT CLIO REVEALED

Renault has released the first pictures and details of its facelifted Clio supermini, which will go on sale in the UK in October. It’s 25 years since the original Clio went on sale in Britain. This revision of the fourth generation model features updated styling and equipment levels along with revised engines and quality improvements. The current Clio was the first Renault to feature the brand’s current “face” when it appeared in 2012. The revision includes full LED lighting, along with C-shaped daytime running lights on certain versions. There’s also a refreshed grille, restyled and wider, complemented by a restyled rear bumper, along with the usual new wheel and wheel trim designs, plus a more extensive personalisation programme. Inside, Renault says that all the upholsteries are new and special attention has been paid to the tactile and visual quality of the plastics’ grain-effect finish. The chrome trim features a more subdued, matt finish and the colours are more refined. Powertain revisions include the 108bhp, 1.5 dCi diesel mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 117bhp TCe petrol also gets a six-speed manual shift. The new Clio comes with three multimedia systems; Media Nav Evolution, Renault R-Link Evolution and the new, smart R&GO system, which is available on entry-level trims. A front parking sensor and a reverse parking camera are fitted to certain models, while top-end specifications will feature autonomous parking.

TORQUING CARS! CAN SPEED CAMERAS BE TRUSTED? DRIVER WINS £2,000 POLICE PAYOUT AFTER BEING CLOCKED AT ‘85MPH’ WHEN DOING 29MPH

Lawyers say the error could mean the model of speed camera is unreliable- meaning tens of thousands could have been wrongly fined. Speed cameras could have been dishing out tickets incorrectly after a man was clocked at 85mph when he was doing just 29mph, his lawyers say. Thomas Baird, a delivery driver, was sent a court summons after police thought he was travelling almost three times as fast as he actually was. Staffordshire Police have now dropped the prosecution and paid out £2,000 to cover Mr Baird’s legal legal costs. The error has raised questions over the reliability of the camera and whether other drivers have been wrongly prosecuted. Latest figures show the camera that caught Mr Baird, in Taklke, snared 568 motorists between Sept and December , 2014 Bobby Bell, director of BB Law, which represented Mr Baird, said: “The most concerning fact about this case is that the police apparently still have no idea as to how or why this device managed to over-calculate my client’s speed by a whopping 56mph. “This case undermines confidence in this camera and possibly even the reliability of this model of camera. “The police should switch it off until they can provide an explanation for the error. “They should test the reliability of this camera and get to the bottom of why it has produced an inaccurate reading, so they can determine whether this is a one-off or a wider problem.” Mr Baird’s Ford van was snapped ‘doing 85mph’ at 11.59am on December 1. Mr Bell said: “Gatso cameras take two photos which are 0.5 seconds apart. We calculated the true speed of the vehicle by making an application to Staffordshire Police for a copy of the second photograph. “Once the police disclosed this we were able to calculate the speed by reference to the physical markings on the carriageway, proving he had been travelling at a maximum of 29.08mph. “If the suggested reading had not been so high Mr Baird probably would have just paid the fine. “There aren’t many people who can spend the time, effort and money fighting something they think the police are likely to win.

HIGH HOPE, SILVER LINING

Q:  I have a bad back, so could you recommend a car that is higher than my current Ford Fiesta? EB A:  Smaller: a Suzuki Splash or Vauxhall Agila. Same size or slightly bigger: a Ford B-Max, Hyundai ix20, Kia Venga or Toyota Verso S (if you can find one). HJ

PANE RELIEF

Q  To lower the offside rear window of my 10-year-old VW Eos, I have to pull the switch up and vice versa. If I press the switch that opens all the windows, the rear one stays closed, so it’s impossible to lower the roof. LT A  This isn’t a problem that can be fixed by email. FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR NO UNDERDOG SURPRISE IN KILLARNEY: The names of Iceland, Marcus Willis and Mayo will be invoked in the dressing rooms in the Fitzgerald Stadium for different reasons. The first Munster final between Kerry and Tipperary in 18 years has all the ingredients of a big upset – from the visitor’s point of view! Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice will use those names to ensure that his side do not become the latest name in the growing list of underdog victories this season. (Just in case anyone doesn’t know Marcus Willis is the British tennis player who came through the qualifiers and then won his first round game at Wimbeldon against an opponent ranked over 200 places above him. The win guarantees him £50,000, nice when you know that he won £238 so far this year. And of course he played Roger Federer on Centre Court!). Liam Kerins, the Kerry man in the opposition dug-out, will be using these examples for the opposite reasons – to show that underdogs do win occasionally., However Kerry will have taken notice of Tipp’s win over Cork and will certainly be on their toes and as Eamonn says “We know if we’re at it we have a great chance of winning but if we are off then like all the recent beaten favourites we will make life very hard for outselves.” Throw in in Killarney is at 2pm. 2 more Munster finals: The Kerry Juniors will have faced Cork by the time we go to print and hopefully Stephen Wallace’s can overcome Cork and retain their title. Wallace, who has implemented a policy of using u23 players since he took over, and it has seen them enjoy great success. However the thing with the Juniors is that it’s a new team again this year and they just got over Limerick in the first round. However hopefully they will have enough to get over Cork on Sunday. Action gets underway on Sunday in the Fitzgerald Stadium at 12 noon when the Kerry minors take on Cork. Kerry are looking for what would be an incredible 3 All Ireland titles in a row and still have a number of last year’s panel to call on. Cork have not won a Munster title since 2010 but despite the tough times the rebels are going through at the moment in various codes this Cork side comes with a big reputation. LADIES REACH THE MUNSTER FINAL: Congratulations to the Kerry Ladies who have qualified for the TG4 Munster Final after a 1-14 to 1-07 win over Waterford in the Round Robin qualifying part of the competition. They will face the Rebelettes in the decider after already beating them this season. Sarah Houlihan was the star of the show for Alan O’Neill’s side hitting 1-06. RED BULL, HURLING AND ONLY 5-A-SIDE – ALL NEW TO ME! It’s not often you come across a sport or version of a sport that you had not heard of

before. I never knew Red Bull were involved in sponsoring hurling or indeed that hurling was a 5-a-side game. But the Red Bull Longest Day 2016 combined both and is the second year of the event in Kilkenny, with the 2015 event held in Tipperary. In Kilkenny 40 teams took part – 24 hurling and 16 camogie teams – played from dawn till dusk with The Field Bulls defeating the Bear Brigade in the all Kilkenny final. Kilkenny also won the camogie with Loretto beating Clara in their final. Sadly there were no Kerry sides in the competition but as I said it’s only in its second year. However it sounds like a very enjoyable competition and why not get Tralee to host it in the near future? 40 teams is 200 players plus managers etc and supporters it could see well over 500 people coming to town for a weekend. CLARE THROWS TO TWO GOLD MADALS: At the GloHealth National Senior Track and Field Championships at the Morton Stadium Tralee Harriers Clare Fitzgerald won two gold medals in the Women’s Discuss, throwing 53.38m and Shot Put with a throw of 15.07m. Fellow Tralee Harrier Eoin O’Carroll was unlucky to finish outside of the medals in the long jump. KERRY CRICKETERS KNOCK CORK OUT OF MUNSTERS: Kerry’s 3rd squad were disappointed last year to go down to Cork County in their Munster semi-final. This year they certainly turned the tables with a comprehensive win over Cork Harlequins to book their place in the Munster Minor Cup final. Kerry 3rd had the Cork side all out for 117 and hit the winning run for only a loss of 4 winning by 6 wickets. The news was not a good for Kerry 1st as they went down to Limerick 1sts at the Oyster Oval in tough conditions. Limerick hit 242 for 7 beating the Kingdom who were all out for 179. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 1,5,9,27 with the next jackpot being e6,700 this Sunday night in Keane’s Bar. Juvenile Academy: There was no training due to the Feile but all are back this Sunday at 10.30am. Feile a big success: The u14 Feile was a huge success with the whole village involved and giving a huge welcome to the visiting teams. After the welcome party the action got underway on the field. The team first made a trip to Dingle and were unlucky to go down to the hosts. Next up were Gracefield from Offaly, who went on to take the title. These were a physical side and while St Pats found it hard to score they kept giving it their best till the end. The home game against Delaware Gaels was played in front of a big crowd and the

American did well to hold out in the end. The final game was the quarter final against a very strong Kildare side in Milltown and while Feile came to an end here the team can be very proud of their efforts. The whole club really embraced the event and there are memories that will live on for a long time. Cul Camp 2016: The St Pat’s Cul Camp takes place between August 8th and 12th from 10am to 2.30pm daily and is open to players aged between 6 and 13 with bookings now open. CAMOGIE NEWS: In the Liberty Premier Junior Championship Kerry had the narrowest win away to Dublin, coming out on top on an 0-12 to 0-11 score line. But in the closing stages and against the wind that did not look like it was going to happen as Kerry trailed by 3 points. But with Dublin failing to score Kerry hit 4 points in a row to take the win. Kerry had led 4 points to no score early on but trailed by 2 points at the half. And it was the excellent Patrice Diggin who hit the vital winning point, taking her total to 10 points from the team’s total of 12. Orla Young and Norette Casey hit the other two points for the Kerry ladies. Diggin Again: Patrice followed up her heroics in Dublin with a second place in the Munster Senior Poc Fada, held in the Thurles Racecourse. She was the only Kerry competitor. Parnell’s Camp: The Tralee Parnells Summer Camp for boys and girls from 7 to 14 years of age will take place from 10am to 1pm on Monday 11th July to Wednesday 13th and bookings are now open. Causeway Camogie: Training for the u6’s, 8’s and u10 girls takes place every Saturday morning with the u12’s training on Wednesdays at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 10am at the pitch and newcomers are always welcome. STACKS NEWS: Last minute bookings are still available at the time of going to print for the Kerry Bord na nOg Summer Camp in Connolly Park next week. The fun is on from July 4th to 8th. The youngest players won’t train this Sunday as many will be heading to Killarney to face Tipperary. The u12’s train in mid -week but not on Sunday while the u13’s are all set for the Town League which is set to start on Sunday next. The u14’s are relaxing after their Feile exploits during which they played in Connolly Park, Killorglin and Fossa. Sadly a late goal by the club we were hosting, Nemo Rangers, knocked the boys out in the ¼ final stages. They had beaten Laune Rangers, Killarney Legion and St James from Galway. The u16’s are due to kick off their County League with an u16 clash against Kilgarvan / Tousist. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINALISTS

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES TO BE DECIDED AT THE TRACK: This Saturday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there is a fundraiser for the Ballyheigue Coursing Club plus the semi- finals of the Denny KDL Champions League A3 500yds and more supporting 12 dog stakes. All these finals will take place on Friday July 8th as part of the annual monster fundraising night for the Kerry University Hospital. Entries are now being taken for the Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby trial stake, the semi -finals of which take place on Friday July 15th. NEW MANAGER FIRST POINTS: Anyone following the early games of our u17 team in the SSE Airticity League of Ireland will have seen that times have been tough. Despite some good performance that first point had proved elusive. The KDL, under whose banner the team plays, decided to change the manager and FAI RDO Darren Aherne has taken over. The Tralee man has worked with these players over the years in the Regional Academy and in his first game in charge got a huge win. They defeated Salthill Devon 3-1 to move off the foot of the table with goals from Dillon Robinson, Thomas Burke and Ben Cooney. Aherne praised his squad after the game. “We worked on believing during the week and even though we went behind very early on the big thing was not to concede a second. And once we got level I knew we would win. We have momentum now going into an important period of the season.” Kerry will have faced Limerick in the Mark Farren Memorial Cup first round as this column is being put together and face the same opposition on Sunday. We will the results and reaction next week. SEAN LACEY THE TOP KERRY RIDER ON THE NATIONAL STAGE: The National Road Race Championships took place in Kilcullen this weekend with Nicolas Roche claiming both the Time Trial and Road Race Titles. There was disappointment for Tralee’s Moda Kingdom Endurance rider Denis Dunworth as a bout of food poisoning ruled him out of the Time Trial. Denis was going into these championships in very good form but it wasn’t to be. On Sunday the Road Race saw a number of Kerry riders in the peloton which took place in very tough conditions. Cathal Moynihan of iBike Manor West made the first big break but he was suffering from a virus all week and he was forced to pull out. Tralee’s Sean Lacey (AquaBlue) had a tough start going down in a crash after 15km. But he showed great courage over the next 25km to chase hard and get back on. But by now 9 had got away and they were not to be caught. Sean was in the chasing 5 riders and while 2 pulled away the remaining 3 sprinted for 12th and Lacey won the sprint. He was happy with this after 190 tough kilometres and being up against some very good sprinters. Tralee Manor West iBike’s tried to get Barry Horgan into the vital break after Moynihan had retired but to no avail while Ciaran Slattery did well to battle on after having his preparations unhinged by a heavy cold.

Masters: In the Masters 40’s Tralee Manor West iBike took 4th in the Team Category with George Doyle, Shane Courtney and Mark Prendeville having decent races. In the same race Moda Kingdom Endurance riders Ed Barry and Roy Madden were in a large group of riders that finished 10 seconds behind the winner. Killarney native John Blackwell (Unattached) was also in that group. Unfortunately Denis Dun worth was ruled out of the National Time Trial, held in Kilcullen, due to a bout of food poisoning. This was all the more unfortunate as he was in flying form after recovering from a crash, but sport can be very unfair. No doubt he will be back on the National scene soon.

PLAN B FOR TRALEE BAY SWIMMING CLUB: Due to the strong south westerly winds The Wheel Rock swim did not take place. However the swimmers would not be deterred and Round 3 of the World Series, sponsored by Landers Outdoor, saw over 70 take to the water in tough conditions. The Group winners were John Roche in Group A, Elaine Burrows Dillane won Group B on her return from a long time away for the water and John Quilter took Group 3. In the World Series table Sinead Kelliher leads on 10 points but is joined by Elaine Burrows Dillane.
