LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Living Wills/Advanced Healthcare Directives Billy has heard of living wills but he is not sure what they are and is wondering whether he should arrange one. A Living Will is a type of Advanced HealthCare Directive. It is a direction as to future health care. It is particularly important as it operates when one is not capable of giving these instructions. E.g if one was in a coma or had developed Alzheimers disease. These now have legal authority under the new Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Legislation 2015. The Advanced Healthcare Directive is a written document by a person over 18 years of full legal capacity signed in the presence of two witnesses at least one of whom is not an immediate family member which sets out the person’s will and preferences concerning medical or healthcare treatment decisions. The person may appoint a designated healthcare representative to act on their behalf in relation to health care issues and decisions that may arise in the future at a time when he/she may not have the ability to make those decisions for him/herself. It promotes Autonomy and complements the advance care planning process. It can be classified as a statement regarding the person’s wishes and preferences in relation to future medical care. It will set out the extent and type of healthcare the person wishes to have when they may not be able to make a decision on the healthcare and treatment at the particular time. People usually make directives to limit treatments to prolong life e.g. resuscitation, peg feeding, life support machines. Some people make directives to state that they want all possible treatments to be used however such a directive may not operate as it is dependent on healthcare resources. This is the first time advanced health care has been included in legislation. If a medical issue arises it is standard practice to consult next of kin where the patient hasn’t got the capacity to make a decision. However the next of kin still have no legal right to make decisions on behalf of their nearest and dearest adults. Forms to do a living will are available on the website www.thinkahead.ie Lawquip: I don’t find health-related puns funny anymore since I started suffering from an irony deficiency.” If you have a legal query or need further information on any item addressed in this column please send in your query to mirs@gofree.indigo.ie Miriam McGillycuddy, Solicitor, Derryana, Ballyard, Tralee, County Kerry. Kerry publicans carry coffin to Leinster House as protest at death of rural pubs

Publicans from across Kerry gathered outside Leinster House this week to protest the death of rural pubs. They say that unless Government brings forward meaningful supports pub culture will all but disappear from Ireland. The publicans carried a coffin to the gates of Leinster House to symbolise the death of the rural pub, while supporters from the county looked on. While pubs will be allowed open on 21st September, Kerry publicans say huge problems remain within the sector. Tralee publican Aidan Turner, who attended the protest, says the trade will need Government support if it’s to survive. “We organised this protest to highlight the fact we’ve been closed for six months with little or no support from Government. Until a vaccine is found we will have to trade at half capacity, which for many pubs is not viable. “Pubs are central to our culture and if Government is serious about protecting our sector they will have to increase the Friday 11th September 2020

grant aid to pubs over the next 12 months, increase the duration of the commercial rates waiver until next summer and commit to enhancing the employment wage support scheme. “Kerry pubs are loved by tourists from around the world and when they return, which they will, we need to ensure there are pubs here for them. This is about survival until this pandemic is over. Today’s protest is a clear message to all the politicians that publicans, their families and staff demand more support,” Mr Turner concluded. Patrick McCarthy from Paddy Macs & Jack Macs Pubs in Tralee said “I met all the Kerry TDs today along with my sons Johnny & Tommy and they expressed their full support for the plight of the pubs and they felt that we haven’t been treated fairly “

Healy Rae, Danny Healy Rae, and Pa Daly.

great words from a happy customer .... “I’d just like to give a shout out to Hugh Cullotys in town - my mother needed a new tv, I’ll admit, I immediately thought to head up to Manor to the usual chains, but I remembered I had made a commitment to try and shop local as much as possible so I thought let’s check out Hugh Cullotys in town. Prices were as competitive as any of them, we were seen to straight away, staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful, loaded tv into our car, and what I liked also is that we know we can contact them directly if there’s any problem, not some customer helpline abroad! Am sure Walsh Bros Electrical are the same, so shop local as much as you can folks and support our lovely town! #mytuppence “....

Tralee mourns the sad passing of Donagh O Mahoney

Sadly Tralee lost a great young family man this week with the passing of Donagh O Mahoney of Ballyard Tralee (and formerly Bishopstown Cork ). Much involved in the sporting community in Tralee and so generous with his time , an IT man , as well as running Radar Sports & Retail with his wife Una , Donagh was very involved in Tralee Rugby Club and Tralee Harriers Athletic Club . The family funeral took place this Thursday in Our Lady & St Brendans Church , Tralee . Our sympathies and thoughts are with his beloved wife , friend and partner Una and his beautiful daughters Ava , Grace and Rachel as well as their extended family.

Tralee’s great words at the passing of Seán Hurley (Radio Kerry)

The town of Tralee and the media world lost another great man this week in the passing of Sean Hurley, “One of life’s true gentlemen and a great ambassador for the station over the years”.Fiona Stack , Manager Radio Kerry “His voice was as natural on radio as anyone could wish to hear. That quality alone could never be bought or trained “....Mark Leen Seán, he was an amazing person, he lived for his role in the station and minded that Killarney studio like it was his own home....Margaret Kissane “A gentleman and a great radio man. God rest Sean Hurley.” John Drummey “A true Pro. I can almost see Ted Keane , Michael Donovan and now Sean having a good ‘ol natter..”...June Carey “He was one of the good people you would be glad to say you knew.”....Paddy Hanafin “Sean it was a pleasure to know you and you will live on in the hundreds of recordings that you made.”...Padraig Harnett “- Sean loved his family dearly and his other love was radio.-”...Brian Hurley “ He touched the lives of so many people in a variety of ways. His enthusiasm, and his hallmark beaming smile, was infectious “...Con Dennehy

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2020

A Pig in a Poke! As we all know I’m a self -confessed porkaholic ( as well as a workaholic some might say, but hey I love food so there you go!) There is so much you can do with the humble pig, its such a versatile animal. Here is a soul food rib sticking heart warming dish thats great to cook now that the evenings are getting a little darker!

SLOW COOKER HAM HOCK AND CHICKPEA STEW Serves 6 INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • •

8 cups hot water 4 smoked ham hocks (2 1/2 pounds) 1 1/2 tind dried chickpeas, soaked overnight and drained 3 large carrots, cut into 2-inch lengths 1 medium onion, cut into 1-inch dice 2 bay leaves 2 thyme sprigs Three medium potatoes, peeled and quartered 2 tablespoon chopped flat-leaf parsley Salt and freshly ground pepper

METHOD In a slow cooker, combine the water, ham hocks, chickpeas, carrots, bay leaves and thyme sprigs. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour and 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, Add the potatoes, cover and cook on low for 1 hour and 45 minutes, until the chickpeas, ham hocks and potatoes are tender. Transfer the ham hocks to a large plate. Discard the bay leaves and thyme sprigs. When the hocks are cool enough to handle, remove the meat and coarsely chop it. Return the ham to the soup. Using a paring knife, cut the carrots in the cooker into bite-size pieces. Transfer the potatoes to a bowl and mash to a puree. Stir the mashed potatoes into the soup along with the parsley. Season with salt and pepper and serve. If you dont have a slow cooker extend the time by 1 & 1/2 hours

IT’S ONLY A JOKE AS I SUSPECTED, SOMEONE HAS BEEN ADDING SOIL TO MY GARDEN... The plot thickens.

MY FRIEND COULDN’T AFFORD TO PAY HIS WATER BILL. I sent him a “Get well soon” card

IT’S A 5 MINUTE WALK FROM MY HOUSE TO THE BAR, BUT A 45 MINUTE WALK FROM THE BAR TO MY HOUSE... The difference is staggering

TRUMP AND HIS FAMILY ARE TRAVELLING IN A PLANE.

Trump decides to drop a 100 dollar note from the plane. His wife asks what he is doing. His reply is “I want to make an American happy” His wife replies back “Why don’t you drop ten 10 dollar notes and make ten Americans happy?” Their daughter gives a suggestion “Why don’t you drop hundred 1 dollar notes and make hundred Americans happy?” The pilot overhears their conversation and gives his own suggestion on the matter. and says to Trump “Why don’t you drop yourself from the plane and make all Americans happy?”

FATHER LOOKS HARD AT HIS TEENAGE SON AND SAYS, “JAMES, YOU’VE BEEN ADOPTED.”

James jumps up, “Adopted! I knew it! I want to meet my biological parents!” Father laughs, “No no, James, we are your biological parents. But you need to get packing, your adoptive ones will be here in an hour.”

THE DOCTOR SAYS The doctor says,

“Larry, everything looks great. How are you doing mentally and emotionally? Are you at peace with God?” Larry replies, “God and I are tight. He knows I have poor eyesight, so He’s fixed it so when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, poof! The light goes on. When I’m done, poof! The light goes off.” “Wow, that’s incredible,” the doctor says. A little later in the day, the doctor calls Larry’s wife. “Bonnie,” he says, “Larry is doing fine! But I had to call you because I’m in awe of his relationship with God. Is it true that he gets up during the night, and poof, the light goes on in the bathroom, and when he’s done, poof, the light goes off?” “Oh, no,” exclaims Bonnie. “He’s peeing in the refrigerator again!”

A MAN DECIDES TO GO TO A BAR WHERE HE SEES A BLONDE WOMAN.

Conversation begins and the two hit it off. The blonde eventually asks the man when his birthday is. “March 1st,” the man replies. Suddenly, the blonde gets up and stomps around the bar before coming back to her seat. “So when is your birthday?” the woman again asks. Not being too phased by this odd behavior, the man again answers “March 1st.” Again, the blonde woman stomps around the bar, this time louder and longer. When back at her seat, she angrily demands, “Are you going to tell me your birthday, or are you just going to keep telling me to march around the damn bar again? Know any funny Jokes? Beauty

HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS I hope you’re all having a great week! This week, as the leaving cert results came out, I thought I’d talk a little about my journey and how I became to be a Makeup Artist. Even though I’m not doing it full time, I’m still working as a Makeup Artist, why? Because I LOVE it. I’m so lucky that I can do what I love anywhere in the world, I loved doing makeup when I was in Australia. So I was thinking this week I would share my own journey and what I would recommend you do if you also want to be a Makeup Artist. You want to be a part of one of the MOST saturated industries in Ireland at the moment. Just letting you know. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I just want to emphasise that so you’re aware of the industry and it’s relevant to the points that I’m about to make…

BACKSTORY

When I first initially got into makeup, I literally taught myself through YouTube tutorials, so I was what you call ‘Self-Taught’. I mostly did my own face and occasionally, I did other faces too. Let me just make a point, just because you do your own face perfectly, does not mean you will be good at doing someone else’s face. You learn by practicing, on all different face shapes, ages, skin types etc. I moved to Dublin - where there was A LOT more Makeup Artists, who not only were more experienced than me, THEY HAD QUALIFICATIONS. I was in the middle of interviewing for a job on a Makeup Counter, I got through 4 stages, to the final round. It was between me and another girl. She got the job, I was told by the owner it was because out of the two of us, she was qualified and I was not. So I decided to get my own qualification. Got a job with a huge international brand immediately after, which led me to become the Senior Makeup Artist on Counter, go to London training and do Makeup on Irish Celebrities for The IFTA’s. Friday 11th September 2020

QUALIFICATION

recommendations based on their skin type and use the products that you know will

Initially I just wanted to get a qualification so it would make applying for jobs easier, but now that I have got ITEC qualified and have had experience working as a Makeup Artist I see how important it is to do a course in Makeup. The ITEC Qualification means that you’re Qualified Internationally(AKA - You can work anywhere in the world!)

BASICALLY…

Some of the most amazing Makeup Artists that I follow are ‘Self-Taught’, but they only do makeup on themselves. Doing makeup on clients is completely different. You are putting products on someone’s face, in my opinion, if you are charging money, you should be qualified. Why? Hygiene.

If you expect clients to invest in you, be willing to invest time and money in yourself and your kit.

work on their face.

If you want to be a Makeup Artist, amazing! Practise on yourself, post on social media, practise on friends, wash your brushes, build a CLIENT ONLY kit, get a qualification, get experience!

In a Makeup Course, as well as learning about makeup, you learn the importance of being hygienic when it comes to makeup. Little things such as cold sores, eye infections or minor skin conditions are not always visible on the skin and can be passed on VERY easily. If one of my clients has a cold sore, it is a contraindication, which means I cannot do makeup on them. This is something that I never would have known if I did not do a course. Some makeup courses are waaaaaayyy too expensive, unless you want to do special effects or something. You don’t need to pay a fortune, more money won’t make you any more talented, practise will.

EXPERIENCE

Makeup Artists, if they’re not working from a counter, will most likely charge depending on both the products they use, and their experience. How do you use this to your advantage? If you have more experience, you are likely to be more skilled. Working on Counter for example, gives you a direct insight to how brands work, how makeup works, and you get to do makeup on SO many different people. Makeup isn’t just doing someone’s face, it’s an experience. You should be able to interact with you client, make

BOOSTING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM For good health it is essential that your immune system is working at optimum levels, only then can it protect you from infection, viruses and helping you to recover quickly when you are ill. WHAT AFFECTS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM? A number of factors can affect your immunity, the most common offenders include; LACK OF SLEEP: when you sleep your body is busy repairing, rejuvenating and healing. Without adequate sleep your immune system may be compromised and not able to do its job effectively. POOR DIET: good nutrients are essential for every part of your immune system. When you eat healthily you give your body the basic building blocks it needs for renewal, repair and defence against illness. STRESS OVERLOAD: when you are under stress your adrenal glands release too much cortisol (stress hormone) which can hamper your immune response, this may increase your risk of infection and inflammation. EMOTIONAL UPSET: low mood, anxiety and a negative attitude to life all seem to have an inhibiting effect on immunity. Scientific studies consistently show that people with an upbeat, TRALEE ADVERTISER

positive outlook tend to have a more robust immune system. Some supplements to consider when trying to support immunity: Vitamin C: take this antioxidant as a separate supplement as the amount in a multivitamin is usually low. Vitamin C is essential for the production of white blood cells, which help fight off disease. PROBIOTICS: to increase the good bacteria in your gut helping to keep yeast and other invaders in check, protecting you from infection. OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS: are anti-inflammatory and can help boost immunity HERBS WHICH CAN ALSO HELP BOOST IMMUNITY: ASTRAGULAS, ECHINACEA , OLIVE LEAF AND BLACK ELDERBERRY, available in capsule or liquid. Until next time, stay healthy.

FITNESS!

Hello strong people! I hope you’re all having an amazing week. After last week’s page, I want to talk about Fitness for Beginners, as we were all beginners once. So this week I’m just going to go back to basics, how to get into fitness if you’re a beginner, or to get into a stricter/new fitness routine. 1. Start small: Start by making small changes to your food or exercise plan. If you try to make loads of giant changes at once, you will more than likely fail. Trust me, I know. 2. Set realistic goals: Like starting small, this one is essential. If you set realistic goals that are genuinely achievable you’re more likely to succeed. If your goals are unrealistic they’ll seem too far away or too hard to reach and you’ll get easily unmotivated. 3. Get help: I mean professional fitness help, if you feel you need it. There is nothing better to help you reach your goals than advice from a professional who knows exactly what you should do. 4. You have to want it: If you’re starting a fitness regime, you have to want it for you. Not to try and please or impress someone else. Unless you want it hard enough, you won’t stay motivated. Do it so that you’re a better and healthier version of yourself. 5. BALANCE IS KEY: It is so important to remember that you need to have a balance in everything you do in life. If you are too restrictive with your food or too strict with your training, it won’t work. 6. WATER: With any new fitness regime, it is sooooo sooooo important to be properly hydrated. There are so many health benefits to proper hydration!

T26O RQU I N G C A R SGet! your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read PREMIUM ADVERTISING TOYOTA RENEWS ITS MOBILE PHONE APPEAL TO ‘FACE IT DOWN’

New nationwide research carried out by iReach on behalf of Toyota Ireland has exposed the startling revelation that 59% of Irish motorists have looked at their phones while driving within the last 12 months, with 42% admitting they have done so within the last two months. The survey of 1,000 Irish drivers also revealed that over half of all adults (52%) check their phone in the car after hearing an alert, with 26% checking when stopped at traffic lights, 21% taking a quick glance while driving when they feel it’s safe to do so, and 5% checking immediately. 48% wait until they get home to check. When it comes to specific phone activity when driving or stopped at traffic lights, 21% read text messages, 18% make or answer calls, 7% check voicemail, 6% send messages, 4% check social media and 3% read the news. The survey findings come at a time when deaths on Irish roads have risen by 9, in comparison with the same time period as last year, and as Toyota renews its appeal to Irish motorists to place their phones faced down while driving –- the central message carried throughout the brand’s annual National FaceItDown Awareness Week, which runs from Monday, September 14th to Sunday, September 20th.The national awareness week campaign is calling for more widespread adoption of the life-saving FaceItDown app which was developed by Toyota Ireland to help change Irish driver behaviour. The innovative app, which is endorsed by the Road Safety Authority, incentivises motorists to place their phone face down when driving in order to eradicate mobile phone distractions and ensure safer roads for all. For every kilometre driven with the app engaged and phones faced down, users can earn points which are redeemable against free hot beverages in Circle K, cheaper FBD car insurance and subsidised parking at QPark lots. Since its launch in 2017, FaceItDown has recorded more than 28.9 million kilometres driven in Ireland with phones faced down. The free app is available to all motorists, whether they drive a Toyota or not, from Apple Store or Google Play. As an added incentive for current FaceItDown users, and to attract the next wave of safety conscious drivers, Toyota is offering double incentive points for all journeys logged on the app from today, 9th September to the 20th September. NEW LAND ROVER DEFENDER P400E PLUG-IN HYBRID JOINS RANGE

The Land Rover Defender range has received an update, and among the changes comes the introduction of a plug-in hybrid - the most fuel efficient yet most powerful model in the range. Called P400e, the new plug-in powertrain is the same found in the Range Rover Sport PHEV: a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is mated to an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The combined output of the two systems is 398bhp and 650Nm, enough to help the Defender crack the 0-62mph sprint in 5.6 seconds. Possibly more important for owners, however, is the fact that the plug-in model can tow a trailer up to 3,000kg in weight. The 19.2kWh battery gives the Defender a 27-mile electric only range, which translates to official consumption figures of 85.3mpg and 74g/km of CO2 emissions. Electric drive is sent to all four wheels, too, allowing for zero-emission off-road driving.Through a 50kW rapid charger, the battery can reach 80 percent of its charge in 30 minutes, while the supplied Mode 3 cable enables the same capacity to be reached in two hours when plugged into a home 7.4kW wallbox. The three diesels are available both in the existing 110 body style and the shorter 90 wheelbase, which has now joined the range. The 90 is offered with a choice of five or six seats - the sixth in the form of the central fold-down “jump seat” between the front driver and passenger chairs. In line with the other changes, Land Rover has introduced a new mid-range X-Dynamic trim level, three new exterior paint finishes, and a fabric roof option for the 110 model.

SKODA HAS BIG GUNS IN ITS SIGHTS !

Skoda are aiming to be the second biggest car seller here in a short few years and one of the cars they are banking on big-time to get them from fourth to second is the newly-arrived Octavia. With a sharper design now (saloon and estate) and a greatly spruced-up interior with lots of new spec, they also expect diesel to boost their climb for the next couple of years: 58pc of new Skodas bought this year have been diesel (slightly down from 62pc).They claim diesel remains more efficient on fuel economy than petrol. For now, however, there are just two diesel versions: a 2-litre 115 6spd manual (replaces the old 1.6) and a 150bhp 2-litre diesel DSG. The 115bhp TDi begins at €28,750 (Ambition).Overall prices start from €23,950 for the 1-litre TSI petrol Active. There’s a mild hybrid 1-litre TSI DSG MHEV from €28,250 in Ambition trim too. They claim the average €1,900 price increase is well offset by the fact that it’s a brand new car and spec levels are way up.Indeed, they reckon the extra equipment and technology is worth €3,200.Entry-level Active spec (few buyers) includes 16ins wheels, LED headlights/ tail-lights, air con, keyless go, Front/ Lane Assist; 8ins infotainment system. Ambition adds 17ins alloys, cruise control, rear parking sensors/camera, Smartlink. Style model (big seller) adds 18ins alloys, chrome window surrounds, Virtual cockpit, 10ins nav system.A plug-in is coming for early next year, two versions based on the 1.4TSi.(Eddie Cunningham , Indo Motoring ) Friday 11th September 2020

TRALEE’S PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR? While there are still a few months left in the 2020 – and it’s a year that in fairness cannot end quick enough – will we see a better sporting performance by a Tralee player than that of Tralee Parnell’s Gearoid O’Doherty last weekend. Maybe if a Tralee player hit a late goal or point that saw Kerry winning back the Sam and defeating Dublin or a Tralee Warriors player top scoring in the SuperLeague or BI Cup win they would challenge O’Doherty. So what was his feat? Well he 18 points in Tralee Parnell’s 1-25 to 2-21 extra time win over Kilgarvan in the Intermediate Hurling semi-final. And of that 18 points 17 came from frees which is an amazing level of accuracy. Intermediate hurling might not have the biggest support in the county and maybe this game was over shadowed by the Garvey’s Senior semi-finals but for the clubs involved and indeed for hurling in Tralee this was a huge win. Parnell’s have been very strong at underage level since the re-formed a few years ago but have only been involved in the senior side of the game since last season. The Tralee side took on the South Kerry side, who won the final last year, in the hope of reaching the decider against the Crokes. O’Doherty showed his intent from the outset and he hit 8 of his points in the first half to see them lead 0-10 to 0-05. Kilgarvan got the better start of the second half but Parnell’s hit back and by the water break they led by 2 points 0-15 to 1-10. A second goal for Kilgarvan looked to swing the game in their favour but O’Doherty was involved in a crucial goal for Parnells. His free for once fell short and Brian Lonergan finished the ball to the net. But the Tralee side still needed an equaliser and it was O’Doherty who landed along range free to send the game into extra time. The see-saw nature of the game continued in the first period of extra time and three points without reply by Parnells but them 1 up 1-22 to 2-18. There was still nothing between them as the second 10 minutes was coming to an end and it looked like being a shoot-out. But in a fitting end to the game from the Parnell’s point of view it was O’Doherty who hit his 18th point to secure a narrow but wildly celebrated win. The other scores for Parnell’s in their historic win came from Darragh Reen 0-2, Cillian O’Riordan 0-1, Andrew Morrisey 0-1, Lonergan added 2 points to his goal and Luke Chester also hit one over the crossbar. Brian Shanahan, the Parnell’s manager spoke to the Kerry Sports Hub after the game and said that O’Doherty’s contribution stood out in a very good team effort. “We have put in a huge effort since going Intermediate and while we have a number of young players we also have some experienced guys who bring us on. Our free taker is worth his weight in gold but the team needs to get in the Friday 11th September 2020

positions to give him the opportunities. “We have about three weeks to get ready for Dr Crokes with both sides very happy to come through a very competitive Championship. Kilgarvan were worthy champions and to defeat them is great for us. But now we got to go on an win the title which won’t be easy as Dr Crokes are a very strong side.” One very interesting fact for all those sporting anoraks out there was revealed by Donal Barry of the Kerry Sports Hub. In 1918 a flu pandemic was sweeping the county and Tralee Parnell’s defeated Kilgarvan to win the County Senior Championship. Well now in 2020 we have another pandemic and Parnell’s have another chance to win a county hurling title!!

The u16’s put in a good effort against Listowel Emmets and played Fossa in mid-week.

The Senior B‘s needed their 2 goals to get past Churchill 2-09 to 0-12 points in the Junior League.

CASH FOR GOOD CAUSES: The National Lottery Good Causes Awards have e95,000 to distribute to those involved in inspiring work and in projects around the county. A panel chaired by Lotto presenter Nuala Carey will select the winners of the Awards that are now in their third year. The Awards have seven categories – Sport, Health and Well Being, Arts/ Culture, Heritage, Community, Youth Affairs and a Special Category for Irish Language. Clubs can apply and chck eligibility on www.lottery.ie/ goodcauseawards.

It’s full steam ahead for the St Brendan’s side who face East Kerry in the Garvey’s County Championship this Friday, September 11th in Austin Stacks Park at 7pm with the game on TG4. The two Districts met in the Minor final with East Kerry completing their 5-in-a-row. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 5,9,10 and 28 with the next jackpot being e2200.

SENIOR HURLING FINAL LINE-UP NOW KNOWN: Staying with hurling and the sport’s biggest day in the county will see Kilmoyley and champions Causeway take on each other in the Garvey’s Senior Hurling Championship final. Causeway were handy enough winners over Ballyduff while Kilmoyley had 8 points to spare over Abbeydorney.

KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: Last weekend was a busy one with the u6’s boys and girls and the u8’s and u10 girls turning out in great numbers. The u10 boys welcomed John Mitchels for some enjoyable games. The u12 boys are due to travel to Cordal this Sunday at 6pm while the u14’s played John Mitchels last weekend winning 5-15 to 3-10 and they faced Tarbert in midweek. The u16 boys had two mid-week games against Ardfert and Glenflesk and tomorrow Saturday they are away to Laune Rangers in the final Phase 2 game. The u12 girls are delighted as they have won the North Kerry Shield defeating Annascaul 5-05 to 1-03. They will start their Town League campaign this week. The u14’s bounced back from a defeat to Desmonds to win the Division 2 County B League final beating Scartaglin 7-06 to 7-12.

PARNELL’S NEWS: In the club world the Tralee town side has been busy apart from their great win in the Intermediate semi-final. The u16’s have also qualified for a final as they defeated South Kerry 3-09 to 1-07 in the Plate semi-final played in Fossa. They will play either St Brendan’s or Rathmore in the final on this Sunday, September 13th. The u14’s went down to a very strong St Brendan’s side in the County League but they are still in with a chance of progressing as three sides have finished tied in second place which will lead to a possible play-off. The younger players were in training with the u8’s welcoming Ballyheigue to Caherslee with the u6’s training in the same venue. In the camogie side of the club the u12 girls Royal Blue team were 4-1 to 1-1 winners over Cillard in Round 3 of the County League. They will now play Killarney in the Division A County League semi-final on Wednesday September 16th. The Amber side battled hard before going down to Ballyduff. STACKS JUVENILE STORIES: The young stars are enjoying their Academy sessions with u6’s back out again on Sunday morning. For the u8’s the Bracker O’Regan Cup is seeing some wonderful games while this Sunday Churchill will be the visitors. The u10’s welcome the same opposition and for them it’s the John Galvin Cup that they are playing in. The u12 Team 1 went down narrowly to Listry while the Amber team played out an amazing 5-12 to 5-12 draw. Team Black were continuing their winning ways against Laune Rangers. The u14’s saw off Killorglin 4-11 to 3-11. The u14B were unlucky to go down to Gneeveguilla in Division 5 of the League.

The u16 girls went down narrowly to MKL Gaels by three points 5-05 to 5-08 but have already qualified for the League semi-final where they were due to play Moyvane. The senior ladies went down 3-12 to 1-05 away to Annascaul/Castlegregory. Off the field the Ladies have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the people who have donated over 30 prizes to their GoFundMe fundraiser. Tickets are available from the clubs Facebook page or from Jimmy’s Shop on Strand Road. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 16,22,25 and 31 with the next jackpot being e4,500. ST PAT’S NEWS: The u6’s trained at home while the u8’s made the short trip to Na Gaeil. The 10’s are training each week and are looking forward to the Kerry GAA GoGames with the first round due to be played on Sunday against Listry. The u12’s lost out in Duagh and play Currow in their next game. The u14’s were delighted to pick up their first win in the County League when they defeated Renard. They were due to play at home to Skellig Rangers in mid-week. The u16’s went down to Tarbert in Phase 2 Round 1while the minors lost their Round 3 Group J game against the Cordal/Scartaglin combination.

ROWING IRELAND LOOKING FOR AN ATHLETE TO COMPETE IN THE PARALYMPICS: Rowing Ireland is looking for a male athlete to attempt to qualify a boat for Toyko 2021. The male must have a PR2 classification to be part of a mixed double scull alongside high performance athlete Katie O’Brien. Email info@ rowingireland.ie if interested. SOCCER CORNER: There was heartbreak for the u19’s who lost out with the last kick of the game away to Cobh Ramblers last Sunday. They also had a goal disallowed for a dubious off-side call. All four sides are in action this weekend with the 13’s at home to Klub Kildare on Saturday at 2pm, the 15’s away to Cobh Ramblers on Sunday. Both the 17’s and 19’s also play Cobh Ramblers with both games on Sunday at 2pm in Mounthawk Park. In the Denny Premier A final Killarney Celtic defeated Killarney Athletic 4-0 and the two sides will meet again on Sunday in the Greyhound Bar Cup final at 5pm. CLASSIC FC NOTES: The club is starting pre- season training this Friday in preparation for the new season which will begin on Sunday October 11th. The club hopes to build on the 6th place secured in the Premier A this season with 5 wins and 2 draws from 14 games. Mike Conway was the A’s top scorer with 7 goals while David O’Connor hit 4 for the B’s and will be in Division 2A. The club will again have a C team in the League which is a testament to the strength of the club. The club will be holding a club registration night in the coming weeks for new and existing players with the cost being e100 and an additional e20 due in February. ON THE GREEN’S: There was no joy for the Kerry players in the National Gents Matchplay last weekend. Alan Hobbart and Darren Goodall did win their opening game – the only 2 of the 5 Kerry players to do so – but both went out in the next round. Lisa O’Connor also went out in Round 2 having got a bye in Round 1. This weekend the u16’s travel to Athgarvan in Kildare for the delayed National u16 Strokeplay Championships and we wish all the Kerry player the best of luck for the championships.
