Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology What is 5G?
3Ireland plans to roll out 5G broadband in the first quarter of next year so what does it mean for the consumer ? 5G will offer much higher bandwidth than 4G .For instance, in 2015 5G researchers working at the University of Surrey were able to reach speeds of 1Tbit/sec. Just to compare, 4G can hit speeds of 300mbps. A high-speed mobile network will be crucial if communication between ever-increasing amounts of connected devices is to be effective. On the negative side, 5G works on a higher frequency than 4G so it will not travel as far as 4G. However, compare to other countries we are small so I am hopeful that it will make a difference to people that currently get high speed broadband.

The hour-long one woman theatrical performance includes tasting a number of wines with Irish connections and storytelling which provides an insight into a drink that has been part of Ireland’s history for much longer than we might think. Speaking about the show, Lizzy Lyons said, “All the major festivals in Ireland, from Ballymaloe Litfest to the Dublin Fringe Festival, have included ‘A Wine Goose Chase’ on their programme
and the Sunday Times described it as ‘a near 5 star experience.’ I’m delighted to be bringing it to my home town for 2 performances during this year’s Listowel Food Fair.” The Flogas Ambassador, who regularly cooks on Virgin Media’s Weekend AM, will do the opening night cookery demonstration at this year’s Listowel Food Fair with actor and Weekend AM presenter Simon Delaney. The duo can be seen together on our screens this Sunday November 5thwhen Lizzy demonstrates how to make a brisket of beef chilli. Radio Kerry is inviting the women of Kerry to tea! KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: GRANTS FOR SOLAR PANELS OCTOBER 2018 Question I heard that there is a new grant scheme for installing solar panels in your home. How does the scheme work and do I qualify?
The second ‘TalkAbout Christmas Tea Party’ has been announced for Ballygarry House Hotel on Sunday, November 18th 2018 with special guest, TV star Pamela Flood. Hosted by presenter Deirdre Walsh, the theme for this year’s event is ‘Looking good as you age’ with the focus on women in their middle years and upwards. TV stylist Orla Diffily will give a presentation on how to look stylish at all stages in your life, while popular ‘TalkAbout’ contributor Danny Leane will demonstrate how to get the most out of your wardrobe. Or as he puts it himself, ‘Buy less, wear more’! Also back this year is Beauty Expert Mary O’Donnell - another Radio Kerry favourite - who recently joined Virgin Media’s ‘Saturday AM’ team; while fragrance expert Blaithin Griffin from CH The Mall Tralee, will be on hand to give advice on choosing perfume. Deirdre Walsh says they were blown away by the reaction to last year’s event. “We got lots of feedback from last year, and we’ve acted on it. So this year’s Tea Party will be even better, with new features, top-class goody bags and some great prizes to be won.” Deirdre was keen to bring all the popular features of the ‘TalkAbout’ programme to the live show – including interesting interviews. ‘We wanted to feature a well-known celebrity, with whom our guests could identify, and Pamela Flood was top of our list. Everyone remembers her from winning Miss Ireland, and copresenting RTE’s fashion programme ‘Off the Rails’. She’s due back on our screens shortly with a new cookery show, and is juggling the demands of a young family with a busy career. She’s in her late 40s and looks amazing, so she’s the perfect fit for our event.” Pamela will be sharing her secrets to looking good in your 40s and beyond when she joins Deirdre on the sofa at Ballygarry. Radio Kerry is also delighted to welcome back Torc Travel from Killarney, who are sponsoring the event this year and providing a wonderful door prize of a travel voucher for one lucky ticket holder. There’s also a fabulous prize for the best dressed lady on the day.
Answer The Solar PV scheme gives grants to install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and a battery energy storage system at your home. This means you can generate and use renewable electricity in your home and reduce your electricity costs. The Solar PV scheme is a pilot scheme administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). To qualify for a grant you must: • Be the owner of a home built and occupied before 2011 (or a home constructed after 2011 that was built to the 2008 Building Regulations) • Use new materials and products that were not already covered under another grant programme • Use a registered contractor from the SEAI’s Renewable Installers Register for Solar PV • Have the electrical work completed by a Safe Electric Ireland electrician • Apply to be connected to the electricity distribution system using the ESB Networks NC6 form (pdf) • Have a Building Energy Rating (BER) carried out after the work is completed • Agree to participate in SEAI research about the scheme The grant covers materials and labour, unless you are a contractor doing the work in your own home. In this case only the cost of the materials is covered. When the SEAI payment system opens (in October 2018) you can claim your grant online and it will be paid directly into your bank account.

Labour has deep Roots in Kerry Labour Party leader Brendan Howlin visited Tralee this week
as the party selected three candidates to stand in the Tralee area at next year’s local elections at a convention held on Tuesday 30th of October 2018 in the Brandon Hotel Tralee. Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Graham Spring and Cllr Terry O’Brien are joined on the ticket by local activist Ben Slimm who is contesting his first election. Speaking at the convention Brendan said “Labour has deep roots here in Kerry and especially Tralee where I am delighted to chair the convention that returned two seasoned Councillors in Mayor Graham Spring and Cllr Terry O’Brien who are joined on the ticket by a young vibrant local activist Ben Slimm. I am certain that the three candidates selected will work well together to represent and better the close community that exists in the town.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Trending this Christmas!
With just eight weeks left until Christmas Day, it’s time for all of us to start planning our letter to Santa. Each week, we’ll give you the inside track on this year’s Christmas MustHaves. We’ll cover everyone in the family, so follow us and you’ll have a wonderful time surprising your loved ones under the tree. If you love her to the moon and back, then what better way to let her know than with a gorgeous 9ct yellow gold moon and stars jewellery item? This trend is HUGE. Everyone will want to have a glittering crescent moon necklace, bracelet or earrings (or all three, hint,
hint). Pretty little stars are equally popular. Either plain polished yellow gold, or set with sparkling cubic zirconia or real diamonds. This is a really delicate look, so you can layer up on your neck or wrist with more than one necklace or bracelet. Another super popular item in this trend is the Unity Necklace, two interlocking circles or plain or stone set yellow gold. (Attention silver lovers… This trend looks fabulous in silver too.) So, it’s easy to follow this minimal yellow gold look. St Christopher Medals, small crosses, plain gold discs and Tree of Life pendants are bang on trend too. The prices are great value. This trend starts under Euro100 with a maximum price of around Euro300. Be sure to pay a deposit on your choice, as some models are sure to sell out before Christmas.
Ballymac businessman Eamon, profiled in report on tech investment Kerry native Eamonn Costello and his company patientMpower are profiled in a report launched this week by the Local Enterprise Office for Dublin City. Mr. Costello – who hails from Ballymacelligot – is co-founder and CEO of patientMpower, a healthcare company providing digital therapies to people with lung and kidney disease to empower a better health outcome. In January 2018, patientMpower was named one of three overall winners at the IPF Catalyst Challenge in Chicago. The company took home a cash prize of $333,000. In 2017, patientMpower had received funding of €32,250 from Local Enterprise Office Dublin City through a LEO Priming Grant and, subsequently, a Business Expansion grant. The report launched by 20

A BLONDE TRIED TO SELL HER OLD CAR.
A blonde tried to sell her old car. She was having a lot of problems selling it because the car had 250,000 miles on it. One day she mentioned her problem to a brunette she worked with at a salon. The brunette told her, “There is a way to make your car easier to sell, but it’s not legal.” “That doesn’t matter,” replied the blonde, “as long as I can sell the car.” “Okay,” said the brunette. “Here’s the address of a friend of mine. He owns a car repair shop. Tell him I sent you and he will turn the odometer in your car back to 50,000 miles. Then it shouldn’t be a problem to sell.” The following weekend, the blonde made the trip to the mechanic. About one month after that, the brunette asked the blonde, “Did you sell your car?” “No,” replied the blonde, “why should I? It only has 50,000 miles on it.”

Bexblah Beauty HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING A GREAT WEEK! love doing. I put it on if I feel like putting it on, but I also have no problem going ANYWHERE bare faced. I didn’t always have this mindset, remember, I grew up with acne - my life goal was covering that all up! I realised also that photos you see… ANYWHERE, are art, not a representation of being “Perfect” or “Flawless”, because nowadays, photos are taken with professional cameras in good lighting and most of the time there’s at least 1 if not 47 filters on that photo.
This week I’m going to be talking about something and I don’t really have a title or a way to phrase it. But I’ll just jump in and hopefully you’ll get what I’m talking about… As a woman, the beauty industry can be a number of things - Amazing, Interesting, A Hobby, A Career… but also - Stressful, Confusing, Pressurizing. There’s SO many products being thrown at us EVERYDAY to make us look “perfect”, “flawless”, “snatched”. There are hundreds of thousands of Instagram accounts of Makeup Artists who look this way. Many women “won’t leave the house” without some form of makeup on. Not because they want to do their makeup, but because they don’t want others to see them without it.
I also realised, on the total flip side - that makeup shaming is a thing… “She wears too much”, “she’s not natural”, “she doesn’t look like that without makeup”... WHO CARES!! If someone wants to put time and effort into there face, who are you to judge it? Maybe Makeup is their way of expressing themselves? Maybe putting on their makeup with music blaring is their form of relaxing, blocking out the world. Or maybe they’re insanely talented? Why is that a bad thing?
My point is… nobody should be made feel they can’t go somewhere without makeup or that they wear too much of it. If you spend your time worrying about someone else’s face, you need to find a hobby. Just do whatever feels right for you, do a full glam if you want, go bare faced if you feel like it. Just try not to get down in yourself about someone who looks “flawless” on Instagram. Confidence is literally one the most beautiful qualities a person can have. So once you’re doing whatever you’re doing because YOU want to and it makes YOU feel good, you’re doing it right! BE YOUR OWN BIGGEST FAN. I hope you all have an amazing week!
I’ve realised many things, that Makeup shouldn’t be a mask or something you NEED to wear. For me it’s something I

BEXBLAH
FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS! I hope you’re all having a great week. This week I’m going to be talking all about why low carb diets don’t work. Trust me, I’ve tried them all and the only thing they do is destroy your metabolism. You’re not losing weight because “carbs make you fat” you’re losing weight because due to the fact you cut out carbs, you are now in a calorie deficit and therefore are losing weight. You can create a calorie deficit in other ways that don’t involve being restricted and cutting out “bad” food groups. As a weight loss strategy, cutting carbs (while reducing the total number of calories) clearly works pretty well for some people. If it didn’t, then Atkins would have never been popular in the first place. When you cut carbs you initially drop water weight, not fat. So therefore if you cut carbs for 4 weeks for your holiday, you drop weight, mostly water weight. Then the second you start eating carbs again your body will retain more water than before and you will look bloated for your entire holiday, who wants that? No one! Here’s the thing, though: Carb reduction costs us. You see, most of us require some level of carbohydrates to function at our best over the long term. 28
TRALEE ADVERTISER
Keeping carbs too low for too long can have disastrous consequences. This is especially true for those of us who work out. If you’re sedentary, your carb needs are lower. So you might be able to get away with more restriction. But if you like to exercise regularly and enthusiastically, restricting your carb intake can lead to: 1. Decreased thyroid output 2. Increased cortisol output 3. Decreased testosterone 4. Impaired mood and cognitive function 5. Muscle loss In other words: Your metabolism might slow, your stress hormones go up and your muscle-building hormones go down. Women with too-low carb intakes — especially active women — can face: a stopped or irregular menstrual cycle; lowered fertility; more body fat (especially around the middle); chronic fatigue and disrupted sleep;
Friday 2nd November 2018
Everything should be in balance. I’m not saying to eat just carbs and only carbs every day, but I am saying that from experience, lots of women are afraid of carbs and think that they’re bad. What you really need to look at is how much salt and sugar are in your foods. I have said it before and I will say it again… INVEST IN A GOOD PERSONAL TRAINER. It will honestly change your life, and your perception of carbs.

TORQUING CARS! Great article this week in the Indo Motoring from Eddie Cunningham .....
IS IT TIME FOR SCRAPPAGE DEAL TO GET RID OF ‘DIRTY OLDER’ CARS?
We are steadily progressing on making electric cars more attractive. And no one minds having to pay a reasonable amount for a good, connected charging service network. But if we are truly serious about cleaning up our emissions act, maybe we need to think along even broader lines in the medium term. Slapping a 1pc VRT surcharge on new and imported diesels is only going to favour purchases of UK cars because the levy will be proportionally less on a cheaper vehicle. The people driving the most polluting cars now are mostly innocent victims of economics and taxation-regime change. In other words, they are trapped in pre-2008 cars, paying heavy road tax and higher fuel consumption. But many are unable to stretch to a new, or newer, motor, even though theirs is often the second family car that’s needed to do the dirty work.We regularly get examples of it in queries to our Help Desk; people paying so much just to keep an old car on the road .Is there a case to be made for a national scrappage deal for such cars at some stage in the near future? The case FOR might include: * Getting shut of heavy-polluting old vehicles as part of our lower-emissions commitment; * Some re-focusing on home-market buying rather than UK imports; * Boosting sales of cleaner cars here, be they diesel, petrol or hybrid to improve air quality; * Putting a large number of lesssafe cars off the road; * A potential financial boost overall to the Exchequer. The case AGAINST might include:* Letting the market find its own level: pre-2008 owners will have to change at some stage;* There are several individual/brand ‘scrappage’ deals on the go at any given time; * It could cost the Exchequer money, so why risk it? * It might, probably would, exclude new diesels, which would not suit many current owners. * Nothing should be done until Brexit is sorted. I’m sure there are several other pros and cons. But there are two important things it could do: *Show that we are deadly serious about shifting older, polluting cars off our roads, thereby reducing C02 and NOx; * And it could possibly slow the volume of used imports from the UK – if the Brexit outcome doesn’t. Would you change your old car if there was a national scrappage scheme? ecunningham@independent.ie| Irish Independent
STILL NO CURRENT FOR EVS
New car sales figures released last week confirm that electric cars are on the rise, with sales up 102pc on last year. To date, more than 1,078 new electric vehicles (EVs) have been sold and 458 imported, compared with fewer than 1,000 new and imported for the entire of 2017. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid models continue to attract buyers and more than 7,350 hybrids have been bought this year alone. The term ‘hybrid’ refers to a patchwork of alternatives, from mild hybrid to a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). All hybrid systems have a regular combustion engine, an electric motor and a battery pack and all produce some emissions, so cannot be considered electric cars. With a PHEV, the battery can be plugged in directly and charged as you would an EV, allowing for an electric-only range of up to 50km. More than 90pc of hybrids bought this year were conventional or “self-charging” hybrids. Opting for regular hybrids indicates that many motorists are still wary of the lack of charge points and the time it takes to recharge.Apart from the convenience, a significant reason why consumers are opting for hybrids over pure EVs is that carmakers have launched only a small number of fully electric models.Next year will see a raft of new models from big manufacturers. Mercedes has just unveiled its first fully electric SUV, the EQC, arriving here next year, while Audi will unleash its E-tron at the end of the year. The onus is not simply on the Government to encourage people to buy electric; the push must come from car dealerships.Showroom staff are central to ensuring that buyers have the information they need to understand the benefits.Allowing longer test drives and having dedicated EV sales experts would also be a positive move.
CLASSIC CARS TARGETED BY HIGHLY ORGANISED GANGS IN LATEST VEHICLE CRIME TREND
In the UK more than 27 rare classic cars have been reported stolen within the last month. These include two E-types and one Mk2 Jaguars, two Porsche 911s, two Morris Minor convertibles, a rare Sunbeam Tiger, an MGA, four valuable VW camper vans, an equally rare VW Beetle, two early Minis and 11 rare historic Fords; none of these has so far been recovered. This worrying news for classic car owners is made worse in knowing that on average a dozen and more of these valuable vehicles are reported stolen every month. Five years ago The Telegraph reported that classic car theft was on the increase, advising enthusiasts that certain areas of the country were a target for Minis, Escorts and VW campers. Now the many social media sites devoted to classic vehicles suggest that all types are being stolen, in most areas of the UK. True statistics for stolen ‘classics’ are unfortunately rare but it is known the above list of cars posted on social media is only a small percentage of those actually reported to the police. This noticeable rise in the theft of cars made between 1950 and 1980 now extends throughout Europe and can clearly be attributed to the many active - and increasingly versatile - vehicle crime gangs that now operate across many country borders. These prolific gang-led criminals, who generally prefer to deal in drugs, robbery, money laundering and cybercrime, have no doubt noted the 500 per cent increase in the value of these 30- to 40-year-old cars over the last decade and have now added them to their theft portfolios, finding them better investment than art, jewellery and even gold. The demand on the Black Market and the Dark Net for rare cars is growing often by ‘no questions 32

Turas Nua has announced they are increasing their efforts to work with more employers in Kerry and are targeting an additional 470 businesses and organisations over the course of the coming year. This is on top of the 1,438 employers they are already working with in the county. The employment activation organisation delivers the JobPath programme on behalf of the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection in 13 counties across the southern half of the Republic of Ireland. They are now placing approximately 1,000 people in jobs each month. In Kerry they have already helped 1,969 people find work and expect that number to increase further over the course of the coming year. Turas Nua help prepare the long term unemployed (ie those out of work for 12 months or longer) to secure and sustain employment. For the next phase of their operations, Turas Nua is looking to add to their roster of employers and will be making a push across their area of operations to add an additional 5,000 employers to their roster over the next 12 months. This will bring the total number of employers they work with to over 20,000. Speaking about the focus on attracting more Kerry employers, Colin Donnery, Director with Turas Nua said, “We are making a concentrated effort over the coming year to work with additional employers from throughout Kerry. This includes employers of all sizes, from household name brands to local operations and start-up businesses. We expect the number of Kerry companies we are working with to keep growing, meaning more jobseekers can secure lasting jobs and more employers can thrive by securing the staff they require to fulfil their business needs,” Mr. Donnery concluded. TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES!
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR TRALEE NEED’S TO EMBRACE THE VICTORY SHIELD: Tralee has seen some good weekends with big crowds attending the Garvey’s Senior Football Championships. Indeed the town does not shout loudly enough about its ‘Sports Tourism’ brand. Recently there was a 10km, you will have a number of rallies soon and of course the Warriors are bringing huge crowds to the Sports Complex most weekends. And there are many more examples that I could mention like the 15’s and 17’s League of Ireland games and the Inter League games. So maybe a Sports Tourism Forum should be called to see how all these sports can work together to make sure the town is capitalising on the benefits from this area of tourism. But now it is time for the town to embrace a truly international sporting event as it will stage the first competitive soccer tournament to be the county. The Victory Shield will see the town as the centre of underage soccer from Monday November 12th to the 16th inclusive. This will see the Republic Of Ireland underage side joined by Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales for a 6 game competition with Ireland, managed by Paul Osam, going for three wins in a row. It has become possible for Tralee to host this tournament due to the development at Mounthawk Park. Soccer’s Centre of Excellence now has two state of the art All Weather pitches and with Christy Leahy Park, home of St Brendan’s Park, and Tralee Dynamos grounds adjacent to Mounthawk there are 4 full size pitches within a few minutes of each other. This is something very few towns, if any, can boost of and when the FAI came down on the original site visit this was one of the major factors in granting the tournament to Tralee along with the excellent bid made by John O’Regan, Sean O’Keeffe and all those on the KDL steering committee. I would hope that anybody who has not been to Mounthawk Park recently make a point of going to one of the games there or call in if you are at one of the games in the Park or Dynamos. There should not be a politician or business person

in the town who has not been to Mounthawk Park by the time the tournament is over. It could also be the ideal time to think about putting a sign up at the home of Kerry soccer advertising your business. This tournament has seen the Rose Hotel fully booked out for the week – in mid-November. Add to this all the other hotels and B&B’s who will also have bookings from the player’s families, official delegations and scouts – a number who have been onto me checking out the accommodation venues they have been recommended. And many of these will be in town for 4 nights and will need to eat, go for a few drinks, get taxis and hopefully use some of their free time to have a look around the shops. VICTORY SHIELD SCHEDULE: Monday November 12th: Scotland v Wales at Christy Leahy Park at 1pm, Rep of Ireland v Northern Ireland at Mounthawk Park at 6pm. Wednesday November 14th: Rep of Ireland v Wales at Mounthawk Park at 1pm, Northern Ireland v Scotland at Mounthawk Park at 6pm. Friday November 16th: Scotland v Rep of Ireland at Tralee Dynamos at 1pm and Wales v Northern Ireland at Mounthawk Park at 1pm. PARK AND DYNAMOS PULLING OUT ALL THE STOPS FOR INTERNATIONAL GAMES: Outside of the developments at Mounthawk Park the two other venues are putting in a huge effort to have both grounds and the areas around it looking the best it can be for all those taking part and going to the game. The Tralee Town Council is also working hard and people will begin to see this over the next week with signs etc going up around the town. It will be a very proud day for the likes of Christy Leahy, Colm McLoughlin and the many many people who have given huge service to the Park to see an International competitive game taking place at their grounds. While next door people like Noel White, Ger Moloney, Colm Clifford, Timmy Counihan and other will have the same feelings when the game takes place on their grounds. Both clubs have been working Friday 2nd November 2018
hard to make sure their pitches are perfect and are now embarking on painting etc. The Park have their new shop and concrete are up and running also with work on their club house. This has been made possible by the huge work by the club’s volunteers. From Tralee Dynamos point of view they are having a Player’s Day this Sunday November 4th. This will see the senior and youth players and all other volunteers come together to renovate their dressing room area ahead of the Victory Shield. Dynamos official Noel White said that it is great to see the players taking the initiative. “Like all clubs we depend on volunteers and it is great to see all our members coming together to do this work on Sunday. “Dynamos are also a club that prides itself on welcoming many nationalities and to celebrate this we are getting the different nationalities to bring in snacks representing their ethnicity and we will enjoy these between 12 and 2pm which will add greatly to the social aspect of the day. “Everyone is welcome to come along from 9am this Sunday as we build up to international football at our home ground”. UPS AND DOWNS IN THE NATIONAL CUP: The Park’s win away at Shelbourne in Limerick in the 14’s National Cup was the highlight of the Schoolboys weekend. The 12’s were very unlucky to go out on penalties at home to Pike while the 16’s went down by 1 goal to Pike Rovers. Park 15’s are away to Killorglin in the National Cup this Saturday. In the 17’s the Park went out to Bridge United in the FAI Cup but the Youths beat Killarney Celtic to progress to a clash with Ballyhar Dynamos. In the Denny Premier Tralee Dynamos and Killarney Athletic drew 1-1. This Sunday is a free day all over the country as its FAI Senior Men’s and Women’s Cup final. JAMES THE CHOICE TO CARRY ON THE MINOR SUCCESS: Being involved with the Kerry 16’s development teams and also on the side line at their exhibition games before last Sunday’s County Senior
Football final sets James Costello up perfectly for his new challenge. The St Pat’s Blennerville man will be ratified along with his backroom team at the County Committee Meeting on November 26th. There were a number of candidates mentioned to success new Kerry senior manager Peter Keane (20162018) and Jack O’Connor (20142015) both of whom were in charge for the 5 in a row minor All Ireland success. With the minors now at u17’s Costello’s knowledge of the players reaching that age probably swayed the process in his favour. Meanwhile Peter Keane is understood to have made further changes to his back room set-up with a number of those who were there in recent years not staying involved. PARNELL’S NEWS: The clubs has made great strides over the last few years and are now in a position to meet with the Kerry County Board to apply for senior status. To help with this the Committee held a meeting this week with stake-holders and non-club members. This will be a great step forward for the club and shows how far they have come in a few years. U19 Hurling Blitz Autumn: The final night of the Autumn Blitz series saw Causeway, Crotta, Parnells and ITT Freshers all taking part in a very valuable series. Parnells Academy: The Parnells Autumn Academy is running for 6 weeks with hurley’s and helmet available for new players. The Awards Night will take place on November 9th at the Rose Hotel with the AGM will take place on November 16th. IT CAMOGIE TEAM: There was hard luck for the IT Tralee Camogie team who lost out to University of Limerick 2-15 to 4-07 in the Third Level Camogie League Division 3. AUSTIN STACKS JUVENILE NOTES: The young players of the u6’s and u8’s are looking forward to getting their medals at the ceremony that will take place in the clubhouse on December 8th. The u10’s had a huge weekend with over 500 players taking part in the John Lynch Tournament with 16 clubs from 8 counties including Kerry taking part. Naas from Kildare were the overall winners and were presented with the trophy by John Lynch. The u10’s will also be getting their medals at the presentation on December 8th. The u14’s season is over while the u15’s were in action in the Super Touch Football Competition. Having defeated Rahilly’s and Na Gaeil the boys headed to Currans for the finals. At the finals the boys defeated Kenmare, Listowel Emmets, St Micheal’s Foilmore and Na Gaeil to retain the title. The u16’s are in a three-way playoff after going down 4-4 to 0-09 to

COLLEGES ROUND-UP: There was a win for Gaelcholaiste Chiarrai in Corn Sheain Ui Mhurchu but defeats for Mercy Mounthawk(Corn Ui Mhuiri Group D) and Tralee CBS in the Cholim Taft semi-final. Clanmaurice still the Munster junior camogie kings: Clanmaurice have set up an All Ireland semi-final against 2017 champions Kilmessan of Meath after retaining their Munster Junior camogie title. They did so by seeing off Crocora 1-11 to 1-08 at Newcastlewest last weekend. Captain Orla Young was delighted to accept the Cup on behalf of her team with Laura Collins being named as the Player of the Match. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: This Saturday night the seniors take on Austun Stacks in the final of the Tralee Town Championship with the game throwing in at 7pm in Austin Stack Park. The County Senior League final fixture versus Dr Crokes has not been fixed due to the Crokes progress in the Munster championship. The semifinals are down for the weekends of November 11th and 25th but fixtures have to be confirmed. The club congratulates Shane McElligott as he was part of the Lixnaw team that defeated Cashel King Cormacs in the Munster Intermediate Championship and will be in action again this weekend against the Cork champions. The juveniles had a great time at the Halloween party last Sunday and well done to all for all their hard work in putting this on. The Grace Moran Memorial Walk takes place on Sunday November 11th with proceeds to Pieta House, Cuan Mhuire and MS Tralee. The u11 Development training continues on Saturday while the u12, u14’s and u16’s girls are counting down the days to their end of season trip. The club will be bag packing at the Horan Centre this Saturday and all donations will be greatly appreciated. Lotto: There was no winner from the Lotto with the numbers drawn 2,6,20 and 28. Applications are still being sought on-line for the position of senior team manager. BALLYMAC NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 4,10,13 and 17. The next jackpot will be e7,100 with the draw in O’Riodas. The u10’s enjoyed their day at the John Lynch Blitz playing teams like John Mitchels, Kilmacud Crokes and St Finbarrs and then in their final game they took on Kenmare who just edged the boys in their final. Well done to all in the Stacks for running a great tournament. Scor: Scor is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the club is looking for members to take part in the various competitions. The Ballymac AGM takes place on Sunday November 25th in the GAA Club. The GAA County Convention will take place on Monday December 10th in the Rose Hotel at 7.30pm with Motions to be submitted no later than 5pm on Friday November 9th. THREE MEETINGS AT THE TRACK: There is racing at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium this weekend with action starting on Friday and Saturday from 7.42pm and on Sunday from 6.35pm. The highlight on Saturday night will be the semifinals of the KGOBA A6 525 yards. The track is currently taking entries for The Red Mills open unraced bitch stake and the Listowel Coursing Club Buster AO 525 yards both starting on Friday November 9th. Entries are also required for the Kingdom Stadium hurdle over 525 yards for novice and nonwinners over hurdles which will start on December 7th. CRACKERS AT THE CASTLEISLAND COURSING: Silent Wonder was the star of the Castleisland coursing last weekend winning the All Age Bitch Stake. The Derby Stake went to the sportingly named Cryuff. Donal and Kathleen took the One Course Duffer Stake while SandinmySandals came out on top of the Three Course Duffer. The Hare Minders Stake went to Spruce Ger. the club who presented a cheque for over e1400 to the RNLI Fenit Lifeboat. The money was raised from the Across The Bay Swim. GARVEY’S WARRIORS BLOW CUP WIDE OPEN: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors have opened up the National Cup by knocking out the holders Black Amber Templeogue on their home court. The Cup is the glamour tournament in basketball but it has not been kind to the Warriors as they went out early in the last two seasons. And many say the trip to Dublin to take on Templeogue as being another potential early exit. But this Warriors side are high on confidence and with Evans, Donaghy, Dick and Bogdanovic all keeping the scoreboard ticking over. A buzzer beating three pointed by Fergal O’Sullivan saw the Kerry side lead 27-24 at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors opened up a lead early on but were pegged back by the home side. However they then hit a purple patch and in a few minutes had built up a lead of 15. Templeogue again fought back but two huge threes from O’Sullivan had the large travelling support on their feet and the lead was 16 at the break 55-39. As expected the home side were never going to give up their Cup easily and their big players stepped up. But the Warriors upped their defence and two big turnovers from Donaghy led to scores that saw the Tralee side again take the momentum and led by 22 after three quarters. In the final quarter the Cup holders did cut the gap to 15 but Evans hit two big bank shots to open the gap to above 20 again and there was no way back for Templeogue. Fittingly it was Evans who hit the basket to bring up the 100 and ensure a famous win. Warriors PRO Alan Cantwell summed up the felling of the camp when he said that “this was probably the best ever performance by the Tralee side with every players showing great focus and stepping up each time they took to the court” This win sets up a mouth-watering clash with UCC Demons in the Complex in early December. Interestingly the Warriors coach Pat Price has won the Cup three times with Demons so that will add spice to the clash if any is needed! In the win over Templeogue Jordan Evans was the top scorer on 31 followed by Fergal O’Sullivan on 17 and Eoin Quigley on 15. This Saturday the Warriors are back in Dublin as they travel to 1WA Clontarf to face Pyrobel Killester with an 8pm tip-off. WINS FOR TRALEE IN UNDERAGE RUGBY: Tralee Rugby Club had wins in the u14’s and u16’s. Tralee 14’s were 31-27 winners over Killorglin / Iveragh in the West Munster U14 Friday 2nd November 2018
League. In the u16’s Munster League Conference 2 Listowel/ Tralee were 21-10 winners away to Castleisland. On Saturday in the u18’s Conference 2 Tralee play Killarney/ Killorglin. Listowel/Tralee take on Corca Dhuibhne at 11.30 in Munster u16’s Conference 2 and in the u14 League Castleisland face Tralee. In the Girls u18 Conference A Listowel / Tralee travel away to Ennis. On Sunday in the Munster Junior League Division 2 Tralee are at home to Killorglin. ON THE GREEN’S PITCH & PUTT: There was hard luck on Deerpark Killarney as the lost out in the semi-finals of the National InterClub that took place in Royal Meath. The Killarney side were beaten by Gowran from Kilkenny who went on to win the national title. In the Deerpark Scratch Cup Tralee’s Jason O’Regan was third in the Senior section at 10 under with Shane Hoare from Larkspur Park taking the win. Jason’s club mate Roger Guthrie only lost out on 3rd place in the Intermediate Cup on count-back. The playing season has now ended and the attention switches to the meeting room with the County Board AGM taking place in Castlesland on Monday November 12th. Nomination and Motion forms have been issued and are asked to be returned to the County Secretary Jason O’Connor by Friday week November 9th. TRALEE GOLF CLUB: In the AIB Bank Singles Sean Reidy was the winner from Pat O’Donnell and Eamonn O’Sullivan. In the Open Golf Classic sponsored by the HR Suite the winners were Paddy O’Donoghue, Kieran Dinan, Robert Dinin and Margaret O’Donoghue. 2nd was the team of Michael O’Brien, Kieran Ruttledge, Norman Foley and Brian Durran. The 3rd placed team was made up of Paul Murphy, Tomas Kelliher, Donal O’Connell and Donal Brosnan with Veronique Davoran, Genna Leen, Margaret Murphy and Antoinette Sayers being the best all Ladies team. In the Ladies section Mounthawk Trophy Joan Cantillon took the win from Norah Quinlan. In the October singles Noran Shanahan was the winner from Emma Morrissey. CASTLEISLAND: In the Seniors Bernard Foley was the winner from Cyril Quigley with Mike O’Connor third. In the Mixed Scramble the winners were Willie Galvin, Mary Ann Downes and Elaine Richardson. Seocnd was Tim Geaney, Esther McCarthy and Caroline Pierce. The Mater Classic was won by Denis O’Sullivan from Martin Downey and Eamon Feeley.
