THE COMMITMENTS STAR, BRONAGH GALLAGHER, TO PERFORM AT 2017 CHRISTIE HENNESSY FESTIVAL IN TRALEE THIS WEEKEND CHRISTIE Hennessy’s legacy is strong and his life will be celebrated by a host of top singer-songwriters from all over Ireland at next weekend’s Christie Hennessy Festival in at The Ashe Hotel, Tralee on this Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th November. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the untimely death of Tralee’s most famous singing and song-writing star which will give this year’s Christie Hennessy Festival added significance. Bronagh Gallagher, who starred in The Commitments and many other blockbuster movies, will be the special guest at the 7th Annual IMRO Christie Hennessy Song Competition Live Final. Mike Hanrahan from legendary folk group, Stockton’s Wing, will perform at the Troubadour Club, as will leading Irish singer-songwriter, Luan Parle.
The CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Kieran Ruttledge, said: “The Christie Hennessy Festival is a wonderful event for anyone who enjoys listening to live music. Both nights are great occasions with fantastic talent on display and everyone on stage will perform their own original songs. I am constantly amazed by the standards of musicianship in Ireland and this festival is a great platform for these bands to showcase their talent. It’s all done in honour of Tralee’s own Christie Hennessy, who was himself a great singer and songwriter. We are grateful to everyone who has supported the event – The Ashe Hotel, Tralee Credit Union, IMRO and Mark Leen who has kindly sponsored the festival billboard at Balloonagh Cross on Pembroke Street.” The Troubadour Club in The Ashe Hotel from 8.30pm on Friday 3rd November will feature top Irish singer/ songwriter, Luan Parle and Mike Hanrahan along with The Shans, Sweet F.A., Isolated Frequency, FoxTales, Jamie O’Reilly and Mark Leen. How can I get IPTV?
Billy says: IPTV, or internet TV, is a service that enables you to quickly access a wealth of video content and can be as easy to use as turning on your TV There is a world of entertainment out their if you have the right equipment. All you need is a good broadband connection and a device which can connect to your TV. You can use an android box with STB Emulator. But by far the device is a Mag254 which is designed for IPTV approx. Cost between €80 - €100 euro You must also subscribe to a service online to receive channels. I would always advise you to pay monthly because service providers come and go. Vodafone and Eir also provide a IPTV Service. The advantage of IPTV is there is no need of a Satellite Dish or Aerial.
Billy says: All laptop batteries are built to handle a certain number of usage cycles, estimated roughly around 500, and often more. Each cycle of use decreases the battery’s capacity, so the less you drain it, the longer it’ll last — all other things being equal so when you are using your laptop plugged in, it is a good idea to remove it. Never let your battery discharge fully. Heat breaks down the battery, and reduces its overall life. When you use your laptop, make sure the vents are unblocked. Never work with the laptop on pillows or cushions. If possible, put it on a raised stand that allows for plenty of airflow.
Tickets: €8 Thurs 9th at 10am THEY CALLED HER VIVALDI Theatre Lovett An upbeat comedy-adventure about a sensitive musical-prodigy making a quiet name for herself in a cacophonous world. For ages 7 plus and adults of all ages.

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Thomas and Edna are separating. They have two children. There is no hope of getting back together and they have tried relationship counseling. They are anxious to make the separation as smooth and easy as possible to minimize conflict for the sake of the children. They have heard of mediation but are wondering what it involves. Mediation is an excellent way to resolve conflict and is particularly useful in family law situations. There is a government funded medication service, which has offices countrywide, but in Kerry this service is offered through the Mediation Service at Unit 2, Market Place, Maine Street, Tralee, Co. Kerry -Phone: (066) 718 6100 Mediation is a method of resolving conflict where the parties to the dispute sit down with a third party mediator who helps the parties look at the issues in dispute between them and help them to come to a resolution on the issues. The mediator is completely neutral in this situation. Both parties have to be present and engage and it is a confidential and voluntary process. The whole idea is to help the parties themselves resolve the conflict and come to an agreement. The mediator creates an environment in which this can happen. It acknowledges the reality of a separation and helps the parties to look into the future and work out how best to orchestrate this for the whole family. The power is with the parties themselves rather than a resolution imposed by a third party e.g. a judge or an arbitrator. It is particularly well suited to family law disputes where a holistic fair solution is needed for the whole family and helps the parties find this solution in relation to resolving issues around Parenting the children Financial support The Family Home, Property and financial issues and Pensions It is a process of good faith and full disclosure. The mediation process can be quicker and cheaper than going to court. As it involves an agreed solution it is more likely that the parties will be happier to engage with this solution rather than an imposed solution. Both parties would take the agreement to their solicitors where it would be put into a legal format. Mediation can last 2-8 sessions of one hour each and may involve a meeting with the children to discuss family arrangements. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... TOURISM BOOST FOR THE KINGDOM AS RYANAIR EXTENDS NEW KERRY-BERLIN SERVICE THROUGH SUMMER 2018 NEARLY 20,000 passengers are set to fly into Kerry on the new Ryanair service from Berlin Schönefeld after it was announced that the route will continue through the summer of 2018. Over 150 passengers made the inaugural flight to Kerry this morning, while 189 passengers, maximum capacity, were booked on the first outward flight to Berlin. The service which will operate every Thursday and Sunday was due to end in March but there has been a broad welcome from the tourism sector in Kerry to the news that the route will continue through next year’s summer season. The incoming flights will depart Berlin Schönefeld SXF at 3pm and land in Kerry at 4.35pm on Thursdays. On Sundays, the flights will depart Germany at 7.45am and land in Kerry at 9.25am. The outbound
flight from Kerry on Thursdays will depart at 5pm, arriving in Berlin at 8.35pm while the Sunday flights will leave Kerry at 9.45am and arrive in Berlin Schönefeld at 1.15pm. Berlin Schönefeld is only 22 KM from Berlin City Centre, while excellent road and public transport connections link Schönefeld Airport with Berlin and the surrounding region. Financial Controller at Kerry Airport, Basil Sheerin, said: “We are delighted with the support that the new KerryBerlin service has received so far with strong bookings up to the end of the year. The decision to extend the route through the summer of 2018 underlines the importance of Kerry as a destination and gateway for the German tourist market and will ensure increased visitor numbers to the region. Berlin is home to 3.5 million people and a number of high tech firms in the pharmaceutical, biomedical engineering,
electronics and media corporations sectors. We will work closely with all sectors in Kerry over the coming months to promote the county as a great tourist destination and a top location in which to do business.” German tourists who visit Kerry and the region are amazed with the scenery, hospitality, and in particular the access to the Wild Atlantic Way. Kerry Airport welcomed over 325,000 passengers in 2016, up approximately 6% on
2015. Kerry Airport is ideally located for anyone wishing to travel on business or pleasure with direct flights to seven destinations including: London Luton, London Stansted, Frankfurt-Hahn, Berlin, Alicante & Faro (summer 2018) with Ryanair, and to Dublin with Aer Lingus Regional. For more information about Kerry Airport, please visit www.KerryAirport.ie or contact +353 66 9764644.

HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK! This week I’m talking ‘Beauty Bag Essentials for a weekend away’. When you’re going away on a weekend you don’t want to fuss about with too many products, so these are my essentials.
2
1
Benefit Hoola bronzer - Definitely my favourite bronzer, not too light and not too dark.
Morphe X Jaclyn Hill eyeshadow palette - If I’m going anywhere you better believe that this is the eyeshadow palette that I’m bringing! It’s my all time favourite eyeshadow palette, it’s SO versatile.
4
Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation - This foundation is my number 1 tried and tested foundation so if I’m going away it’s what I will bring. (even though realistically I’ll bring more than one).
3
Anastasia Beverly Hills dip brow - Literally the only thing I use on my brows! It’s the best and I highly recommend it. It’s available online on Beautybay or CultBeauty for around 20 euro.
5
Glamglow thirsty mud facemask - I absolutely love this facemask, it’s amazing! It’s insanely hydrating and gives the skin such an amazing glow. You can get mini pots also which are perfect for a weekend away. I hope you all have an amazing week!

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG FRIENDS! HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK. As you may or may not know, I’m currently training in The Brandon in Tralee! It has so many facilities, classes and a huge range of equipment which is exactly what I like. All the trainers in there are super friendly and full of knowledge, easy to approach if you’re confused. It’s also a big spacious gym so even when it is a little busier, it doesn’t feel crowded. This week I’m going to to talk about the importance of knowing what you’re doing at the gym! When it comes to going to a gym, knowing why you’re there and having specific goals is essential. There’s no point going to the gym and hopping from machine to machine not really knowing what you’re doing or why you’re there, you’re wasting your own time and money. I’m not saying you have to go out and spend a fortune on a personal trainer 5 days a week, unless you want to. But I am saying definitely talk to someone with knowledge so that you can gain the most from your money spent.
Here are my top tips for getting the most out of going to the gym… 1. Sit down, and ask yourself what you want: What do you want to gain from going to the gym? Do you want to lose body fat? Gain muscle? Put on weight? Feel good? Knowing what you want from going to the gym is the first step. 2. Talk to a trainer: Whether it’s one of the people who work in your gym or another personal trainer, I think it’s very important to talk to someone in the know about what you want to achieve from going to the gym. Most gyms I have been in offer free consultations with their trainers where you can talk about what you want etc. Otherwise you can contact a personal trainer and have a once off consultation where they will make you a gym programme and talk to you about food and your own personal diet. You can go to a personal trainer as often as you like, you don’t have to go 5 days a week. 3. Set goals: Once you meet the trainer make sure to set goals that fit you and what you want from going to the gym. And I’m not talking long term unachievable goals, O’m talking realistic short term ones to keep you motivated. 4. ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN: Whenever you are going to the gym, always have a plan of what you are going to do, for example, leg day, hiit cardio, arms and chest etc. By having a plan you know exactly what you are there to do and it will keep you on track and focused.
Rebecca Any gym supplements that I use I get from MyProtein. I love their whey protein, favourite flavours are, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Brownie and Vanilla!

FROZEN STIFF!!! Winter weather can be a pain in more ways than one. Do you ever notice that in wintertime your aches and pains get worse or you have them more often? Not only does cold weather cause symptoms or flare ups of many conditions but changes in atmospheric pressure or humidity can also affect ailments. My Nana claimed she could predict cold weather coming by an ache in her neck. Some studies have found a strong relationship between short, cold, damp days and arthritis flare-ups. Some research suggests changes in atmospheric pressure worsen knee pain in people with arthritis, while colder temperature can cause painful changes in joint fluid thickness. Cold weather can cause tissues to contract contributing to pain and your nerve
endings become extremely sensitive prompting us to bundle up and conserve energy. Another theory proposes that during short cold days we take less physical exercise which may also contribute to joint stiffness – the expression “frozen stiff” is not too far from the truth after all. Unfortunately not too many of us can afford to summer in Kerry and winter winter in the sun – so what to do as the winter weather descends upon us? 1. Keep warm – wear plenty of layers – Are vets gone completely out of fashion? Long sleeves and thermal if fashion really doesn’t worry you! 2. Keep active – gentle stretching can keep you flexible 3. Active exercise will keep your muscles and joints mobile and limber. If don’t move it you lose it
If you need advice about an exercise programme please contact your health care professional or have a look at some of our blogs – “What the doctor ordered” and “No time for exercise”.

ANAM CARAS NEXT MONTHLY EVENT IS ON NOV 14TH
Anam Cara, the organisation that supports bereaved parents, is hosting its next monthly parent Evening on Tuesday 14th of November from 19:30 to 21:30 in Recovery Haven, 5 Haig’s Terrace, Killierisk, Tralee, Co. Kerry. The meeting offers parents a safe and comfortable forum where they can connect with other bereaved parents who will understand the depth of their loss and grief. Anam Cara CEO Sharon Vard stressed that this event is open to all bereaved parents “regardless of the age your child died, the circumstances of their death or whether the death was recent or not.”For those considering attending but unsure, Ms Vard suggested they have a look at the website, anamcara.ie. “There, in their own time, parents can watch our short videos with testimonies from bereaved parents and couples who have attended Anam Cara events. The videos, which are just four minutes each, show parents interviewed on topics like A Dad’s Grief, Sudden and Traumatic Death, and The Grieving Family.” A dad who attends the group urged bereaved parents to give it a try. “The solidarity experienced by being among people who are bound together by a common feeling of appalling loss is a great help. None of us wanted to be in this group nor would wish it on others but the feeling of understanding - which doesn’t need to be verbally expressed - is a support. We all understand.” For more information see anamcara.ie or ring their Information Line on 085 2888 888.

“SOLID GOLD PARTY” IN THE BROGUE CELEBRATES MUSIC OF THE 60’S , 70’S & 80’S THIS WEEKEND WITH LOCAL FAVOURITE DJ CHRIS SHORTT
After a great response to the previous “SOLID GOLD PARTY “ in the Brogue ,this Sat night NOV 5th, its going to happen again !!! Yes , the Brogue Inn is playing host to ANOTHER late night “Solid Gold session with well -known local DJ Chris Shortt .”We wanted to try something a little bit different , as we are now having entertainment up to 7 nights a week in the Brogue “ says Fiona Kirby .So Chris came up with the idea of a “Solid Gold Night “ which we thought was brilliant . According to Chris , “these nights really rock .....People who I haven’t seen in years come out purely to hear the great songs of the 60’s 70’ & 80’s .... It really brings the great memories flooding back “ says Chris .... I grew up with that music , a lot of the crowd who come out on Sat night to the Brogue are very familiar with this music and even a lot of the younger generation in their 20s and 30’s are really into the older Music ....we are talking Beatles , Bee Gees , The Rolling Stones , Wings , Pink Floyd , The Monkees Bob Marley , The Police , Deacon Blue , Simple Minds , Dire Straits , Abba , the list goes on ...Remember MT USA with Fab Vinny ...we are talking Michael Jackson , Van Halen, The Pointer Sisters , Starship , The Eagles , Fleetwood mac . Chris really knows his music , he has been the Rose Ball DJ for many many years now “ says Kevin Cotter .from the Brogue ..”.it only makes sense to have someone who knows the great music of the past , as well as Chris does , entertaining our customers rather than having someone working from a Playlist !”

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! THE MAID WENT TO THE WIFE AND ASKED FOR A PAY RISE
The wife was very worried about this and decided to talk to her about the raise. She asked, “Now Anna, why do you want more pay?” Anna: “Well, Ma’am, there are three reasons why I wanna increase. The first reason is that I clean better than you.” Wife: “Who said you clean better than me?” Anna: “Your husband said so.” Wife: “Really?” Anna: “The second reason is that I am a better cook than you.” Wife: “Don’t talk nonsense! Who said you were a better cook than me?” Anna: “Your husband did.” Wife increasingly angry, “Oh he did, did he?” Anna: “The third reason is that I am better at making love than you.” Wife, really boiling now and through gritted teeth asks, “And did my husband say that as well?” Anna: “No Ma’am, the gardener did.” Wife: “So how much do you want?”
A BLONDE, A BRUNETTE AND A REDHEAD ALL DIE AND ARE SUPPOSED TO GO TO HEAVEN
However, they have all sinned in their lives, so they are kept at the base of the 100 step stairwayto-heaven. God comes to them and says “All of you have commited sins that cannot be forgiven, so you must face a trial if you wish to enter heaven. Every step you take on this stairway, I will tell you one joke. If you laugh once, I will send you to Hell” They agree, and begin the trial. The brunette goes first. She manages to stifle her laughs until the fourth step, until she loses it, so God sends her to Hell. The redhead goes after. She can’t even make 36

it through one joke without laughing, so God, disappointingly, sends her to Hell. Finally, the blonde goes. Somehow, she doesn’t laugh at all at the jokes, managing to take every step easily. However, when she reaches the very last step, before God even says his last joke, she begins laughing hysterically. God waits for her to calm down before asking why she was laughing, and she responds: “Sorry, I just got your first joke”
TWO PILOTS WITH DARK EYEGLASSES AND CANES WALK INTO A PLANE
Everyone starts to comment on it. And a guy asks the flight attendant: -Excuse me, but it looks that both the pilot and the co-pilot are blind, is this a joke? How are they able to pilot? To which she answered -I’m sorry sir, but they are the best and most experienced duo in this Airline and we never had a single problem with them Then the guy felt a bit relieved but was still nervous and so were the rest of the passengers The plane started and went to the runway. The plane started to take speed and it was taking very long to take off. All the passengers started to get very nervous, and the plane kept getting speed and wasn’t taking off, when the plane was almost crashing into the end of the runway everyone panicked and started to scream completely desperate and then the plane finally took off on the last second... Everyone breathed in relief and felt guilty for doubting the experienced pilot After the plane was flying the co-pilot said to the pilot: -The day that those passengers don’t scream, we are totally fecked !
I TOLD MY WIFE SHE WAS DRAWING HER EYEBROWS TOO HIGH... She looked surprised.

TORQUING CARS! CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED THE PRICE OF LOYALTY
My much-loved 2010/60 Mazda6 Sport D 180 hatchback has done 87,000 miles. Am I likely to hit big bills if I keep it? TS They can have DPF regeneration problems. This dumps diesel into the sump, where it mixes with the lubricating oil to form sludge that blocks the oil strainer. I haven’t heard of this recently with the current models, however.
TWISTED LOGIC
I would like to tow my 1,850kg caravan with a 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 petrol auto cabriolet. There is provision for a tow-bar and most makes can fit. However, my caravan expert pal says it is not a good idea to tow with a convertible as it can twist the chassis. Is he correct? PA HJ . ... You’re asking for trouble. The Caravan Club says a car should tow no more than 85 per cent of its own weight and your car is 120kg lighter than what you are proposing to pull.
HIGHER GROUND
We plan to trade in both our BMW Touring 330d X-Drive and our Hyundai i10 for a comfortable petrol automatic with a raised driving position and enough space for two large suitcases. We prefer estate-type bodies and are thinking of BMW X1 or Mercedes GLA. Should we be looking at anything else? Is there a hybrid that fits the bill? RN HJ. You could check out a Kia Niro hybrid and a Toyota C-HR.
PACE ATTACK
My wife has a one-year-old Range Rover Evoque automatic that she loves, but for two issues. She is concerned about driving a diesel, even though it’s Euro 6 compliant, and she would like something slightly bigger. She quite fancies a Lexus. What would you advise? PRHJ. Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium petrol engines are now being fitted to the F-Pace. You’ll soon be able to get them in the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport, too (as well as the Jaguar XE, XF and F-Type). I wasn’t very impressed by the Lexus NX hybid. She might prefer the Toyota C-HR. Petrol hybrids are also on the way from BMW, Mercedes, VW and Audi.
RANGE ROVER 2018 LINE-UP FEATURES PLUG-IN HYBRID WITH 398BHP
Land Rover has released the first details and images of the 2018 model year Range Rover, which includes a new plug-in petrol-electric version of its flagship car. The plug-in model, called the P400e PHEV, comes with headline figures of 398bhp and 472lb ft of torque, along with 101mpg in the NEDC Combined economy cycle and 64g/km of CO2. Range Rover claims an electric-only range of 31 miles, with a rapid charging time of 2 hours and 45 minutes. As well as an 85kW electric motor, this car also has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with 296bhp. Land Rover claims 0-60mph in 6.4sec and a top speed of 137mph.Other powertrains include a 3.0-litre V6 diesel with 254bhp and a 4.4-litre V8 diesel developing 334bhp. There are also new alloy wheel designs and body colours. Further customisation is provided by exterior styling packs, with either glossy black or Shadow Atlas (grey) highlights throughout. Other features include a range of LED headlights, with 24 LEDs standard and up to 144 on top-spec versions. Inside, Land Rover claims improved comfort, including front seats with up to 24-way movement thanks to the new seat frames, with wider and deeper foams as well as heated armrests. There are also up to 17 connection points including domestic plug sockets, USB, HDMI and 12-volt, along with 4G Wi-Fi hotspots for up to eight devices.Comfort features include heated and cooled seats, plus heated arm, foot and calf rests. All seat functionality can be controlled via a smartphone app, whether inside or outside the vehicle.Rapid charging of the 13.1kWh lithium-ion battery is claimed to take 2 hours 45 minutes using a dedicated domestic 32amp wall box. The battery can be fully charged in 7 hours 30 minutes using the 10amp home charging cable. To alleviate fears of battery degradation, the P400e’s is covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile, 70 per cent state of health warranty. 38

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR DID WE DODGE A BULLET AS RUGBY WORLD CUP 2023 LOOKS LIKE GOING ELSEWHERE? It looks like the optimism of the Irish bidding team for the 2023 Rugby World Cup was either widely off the mark or a spin tactic to give the impression that Ireland was the front runner. Whatever it was the idea that we were the frontrunner was certainly shattered when the Technical Committee report was released. We had the lowest score of the three contenders on 72.25% with South Africa having the best score of 78.97% and France on 75.88%. While those involved still say they can work the oracle and get the votes on November 15th the truth is that those who had pledged their support to Ireland’s bid have the perfect excuse to change their minds. And of course with it being a secret ballot the countries can vote any way they want. But the question now is did we dodge a very expensive bullet following this report? The costs would be around e400 million all in with a huge amount of work to be done on a number of the stadia. It must be said that the GAA put their stadiums at the disposal of the IRFU as is. It was a win win situation for them as if the bid was successful they would have had a lot of work done on their grounds and if it fails then it cost them nothing. So if we got the Rugby World Cup and stadia like the Fitzgerald Stadium and Pearse Stadium in Galway were upgraded to the cost of millions is that money well spent? All the GAA stadiums in the country are perfect for the events they host at the moment. Yes things like broadband could be upgraded but again does the Fitzgerald Stadium need huge broadband capacity for 1 full day every two years? The telecoms industry is perfectly capable of installing capacity when needed. These stadiums do not need to be all-seated and would have to be if the Rugby World Cup did come to the country. So let’s look at the positives as outlined by the Bid Committee. Yes there would have been jobs in the upgrading of the stadiums which would have brought monies to the towns involved. But would there be a huge economic benefit for Killarney for example? Every summer Killarney is full to capacity and there are very few beds available. Dublin and Galway are the same so where will all the rugby fans go. The answer
40

is ‘displacement tourism’. Those planning to come to Ireland in the summer of 2023 won’t come as they will want the tourist experience and not that of being in the middle of a major world sporting event. In London at the Olympic Games research has shown that in overall terms there was very little extra tourism. It was just one form of tourism being replaced by another. Yes the town would be full the days around the game and those attending – presuming we had games involving countries that brought a big fan base – would probably spend more than some tourists spend. And there probably would have been some very good publicity for the town and the country in general but again we get that all the time so is there a legacy from that. It is questionable? So while it would have led to a great buzz for the few weeks of the tournament and some works being done to upgrade the stadiums overall I am not sure if the legacy that would come from hosting the Rugby World Cup would equal the almost e400 million it would cost. OVAL BALL WIN OVER KILLARNEY: The Tralee rugby side had a good 24-0 win over Killarney in the McElligott Cup but the game was tighter than the score-line suggests. Two tries in quick succession from brothers Conor and Fearghail O’Nualain who got two on the day and Jack Quilter was flawless from the boot. In the West Munster u14 League Tralee went down to Killorglin 3612. Ex Tralee player Ultan Dillane had a big game for Connacht as they saw off Munster 20-16 in the Guinness Pro 14. SATURDAY’S OFF AT THE TRACK BUT LOTS MORE ACTION: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the semifinals of the Track Supporters Club A4 525 yards. On Saturday night it’s the first rounds of the Track Supporters Club A3 525 yards. Starting on Friday November 4th is the Red Mills Unraced Bitch Stake. There will be no racing at the Track on Saturday November 11th and 18th but the morning racing will go ahead as normal. Doggie News: Well done to Liam Dowling who picked up two awards at the 2016 National Greyhound Awards that was held this week
Friday 3rd November 2017
after being rescheduled from earlier in the year. Ballymac Scarlet was named the Brood Bitch of the Year and Ballymac Bigmike was named the Sprint Dog of the Year. Rathronan Blake was the winner of Supporters Club sweepstake last weekend. Coursing: Blades of Fire took the Island Cup at the Castleisland Coursing meeting. The All Age Bitch Stake through up plenty of drama with Bluebird Wakey taking the title after some surprise results. The Oaks ticket went to Frankies Call while Kyle Steel looks like being one to watch this season following her very good showing in Castleisland. Other winners were Out in Time, Portnard John, Careful Sylvie and Canas Luis who took the Surplus Dog Stake. DANIEL TO DEBUT IN THE BANNA RALLY:
Daniel Chung collecting his KK Hydraulics Championship trophy. Kerry Motor Club’s ladder of motorsport opportunity has become a reality for one young Tralee man. Daniel Chung will make his rally debut on the Banna Beach Hotel Kerry Winter Rally on November 12. He is the newly crowned Kerry Motor Club KK Hydraulics Auto Solo Champion, just three years after joining the club and starting out as a novice. Auto Solo is a form of low-speed grass roots motorsport, popular in America but introduced to Ireland by the Traleebased club by long-serving member Tom Barrett just over ten years ago.
Chung joined the club in 2014, with limited knowledge on how to actually go about starting out in rallying. Three years on he is the club’s Auto Solo champion and will take on his first rally, next month, at the wheel of a newly acquired Toyota Starlet. Club chairman PJ O’Dowd said: “This is the epitome of a young driver starting out, learning skills at basic level at the Auto Solos and transferring his knowledge to rallying. This shows what any young driver can achieve and the importance of clubs running entry level motorsport events.” Entries have opened for the Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Rally, which takes place on Sunday November 12thand the event can be entered via the shannonsport. ie website. CLASS HONOURS ON THE FASTNET: Kerry’s Ronald O’Riordan and his Cork driver Damien McCarthy had a very good day on the Fastnet Rally based in West Cork. They took 13th place overall and 2nd in Class 11F in their Ford Puma S1600. Vincent O’Shea drove his Ford Escort to 22nd overall and took 3rd in Class 3. Also taking 3rd in their Class, Class 12, were Sean Hickey and Adrian O’Connell in their Toyota Starlet. With the Fastnet Rally being the final round of the PlasticBags.ie Southern 4 Rally Championship there was good news for Killarney Motor Club members. Sean Moynihan from Ballydaly won the title without having to drive in the event while Killarney’s John Moynihan had to do it the hard way. He was calling the notes for John McCarthy and he got the points he needed. There was no luck for the other Kerry crews including Daniel Cronin and Shane Buckley, Ken O’Neill and Padraig O’Donovan or Kieran Reen and Alan Buckley in the Juniors who all failed to reach the chequered flag. HAPPY HALLOWEEN FOR WARRIORS: Back to back games are never easy but credit to the Garvey’s Tralee Warriors they took important wins in both their games. The win over Eanna BC in the Complex on Monday was their 7th in a row and cements their place in the top two of the SuperLeague table. The visitors had ex Killorglin star Garny Garcia in good form but the home side started the better leading 24-15 at the end of the first quarter but the gap was down to 5 at the break. This game was tighter than some expected and there was still only 5 between the sides at the end of the third quarter. Baskets from O’Hanlon, Pemberton, Donaghy and O’Sullivan ensured the win for Warriors. Earlier in the weekend Warriors went to Clontarf and came away with a 90-78 win over hosts Pyrobel Killester. This was certainly helped by a game high 30 points from Trae Pemberton. Warriors were able to find scores from all areas of the court and had a wide spread of scorers. They wrapped up

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER the win in spectacular fashion with a Goran Pantovic slam dunk. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS: In the Lee Strand u18 Division clash St Brendan’s went down 42-65 to a very strong KCYMS side that were back-boned by a number of Irish internationals. Despite a good start the visitors were 39-16 up at the break and were always in control. The u14 Division 2 side had their first away game of the season and it was a tight affair but the lost out by one point 49-50 against St Anne’s in Farranfore. The Tralee boys were down by 9 points at the break but fought back level the match at 43 points each at the final whistle. The lead changed a number of times in extra time but it was the home that took the win. Well done to the u16 boys who defeated Blue Demons 63 -48 away in Cork. A good start set them on their way and they took a good win with Rap Bulvdas hitting 30 and James Fernane 19 points. The u16 Division 1 side had a big win at home to St Mary’s 71-29. The U14 Division 1 defeated St Brendan’s 40-25 while in other results in the 12’s Division 1 St Joseph’s won 29-20 while the u14 girls went down 32-9 to Falcons. The Academy boys had 2 points to spare over KCYMS 32-30. SOCCER SHORTS: Fancy being a whistler? Referees are needed at all ages in Kerry and for those interested in a career in refereeing the FAI Referees Department are holding a Beginners Course in Cork on Saturday’s November 18th and 19th. The course is open to male and female’s over 16 and to register log onto refereescourse. referees@fai.ie or any of the Kerry referees. John Hegarty has been named as Assistant Manager to Kerry boss David Hennessy for the upcoming Oscar Traynor campaign. Kerry face Limerick for a place in the knock-out stages with the losers taking on the losers of the Clare /West Cork for another place in the next round. In the Kerry District League Tralee Celtic drew 2-2 away to Killarney Celtic B in Denny Premier B while Tralee Bay won 3-1 at home to Ballybunion in Denny Division 2A. In the League of Ireland the 15’s ended their campaign with a loss to Cork City although the game was much closer than the 4-1 scoreline suggests. In the Subway Inter League the Kerry 16’s side got off to a great start with a 3-2 win over the Desmond League. DYNAMOS NEWS: There were great numbers at the Academy Training and this will continue on Friday evening, November 3rd at the IT North College Campus from 6 to 7pm. The 12’s had a good win over LB Rovers in the Premier Division but the 14’s lost out in a 5 goal thriller away to Killarney Athletic in Woodlawn. The club congratulates Nathan Gleeson and Derek O’Shea as well as the 16’s County management of Robin O’Day and Noel White
on their win in the Inter League. The club is also delighted for Sean Kennedy who was part of the Irish u16 team that retained the Victory Shield this week. PARK LIFE: In conjunction with O’Neill’s Sportswear, the Club will shortly be unveiling a new jersey for the seasons ahead and we would like as many members as possible to enter a competition to decide what it looks like! The Park are inviting all members to enter a competition, where they will design what they believe should be the Clubs shirt going forward. The only stipulation is that the design MUST include the Clubs traditional RED and BLACK colours only. The winner of the competition will receive a personalised shirt with the winning design! Entry Details: Entries can be emailed to info@stbrendansparkfc.com or paper versions can be handed to any of the coaches or Management Committee members by Monday November 20th. The Park A’s went down to Killorglin in the JK Sports 12 Premier while the 14’s had a good win over the same opposition in the 14 Premier. The Youths had a good win in the Denny Youth League away to Listowel. IN THE SQUARE: Tralee Town Board Finals: The Tralee Town Board Junior League final and Senior Championship final dates have been announced: D & E Stove and Tiling Junior League Final: Austin Stacks V Na Gaeil at 1pm in Connolly Park Sunday 5th November Lee Strand Senior Championship Final: Ballymacelligott V Kerins O’Rahilly’s at 3pm in Connolly Park Sunday 5th November. of November at 7.30pm in the Community Rooms. We appeal to all club patrons, particularly the parents of the club’s juveniles to attend this important meeting and help make plans for 2018. Any nominations can be sent to brenda. doody@gmail.com before Friday, 17th November. Keep an eye out for the Curraheen Table Quiz and the Christmas Party in the community. BALLYMAC NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 13,17,22 and 24. The next jackpot will be e2100 with the draw taking place in Glenduff House. Special General Meeting: A special General Meeting of the Club will took place in The Ballymac GAA Club rooms to discuss motions for County Convention. All Club members entitled to vote are invited to attend. Motions for consideration by the County Convention; “A motion from a Club shall have been approved by an Annual or Special General Meeting of the Club and the date of such meeting shall be shown on the motion paper.” Rule 3.14 Motions (second paragraph) OG 2017. Note: This Rule does not apply to motions for consideration by Co Committee. Motions re Competitions will be dealt with at the November 20th Meeting of County Committee and County Convention which will be held on Mon 11th December @ 7.30pm in the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney. U14 Girls: The girls travelled to Abbeydorney for their North Kerry League Division 1 clash which was played under lights. This was a cracker needing two periods of extra time to separate the sides. The home side took the win with the last kick of the game but the Ballymac girls should take a lot of positives from this game. They deserve great credit for their comeback as Abbeydorney hit 3 goals in the opening ten minutes and led 5-2 to 1-5 at the break. The first half saw Abbeydorney start with three goals in the first 10 minutes before our girls got to the pace of the game. Our opening score came from Emily O Donoghue followed by three from Cora Savage to steady the ship. Abbeydorney tagged on another two goals and two points to widen the gap but a great goal from Ciara Palmer followed by a point from Cora left the halftime score 5-2 to 1-5. But they fought back to level the game and take it to extra time and into a second period before the game was decided on a controversial score where an Abbeydorney third player won a hop ball and put it over the bar much to the dismay of the Ballymac team and mentors. The club would also like to congratulate Cora Savage who received her Munster U 14 winner’s medal and All Ireland U 14 runners up medal in The Rose Hotel on Saturday night last. Well done Cora!
