LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Tall tales
Thomas McMurphy’s trees are overhanging into his neighbours Andrew McSaggart’s property but he is trying to sell his house His neighbour is getting very anxious about the overhanging branches and is afraid that if Mr. McMurphy sells the house he will have no joy with the new neighbours either. Trees and hedges are one of the most common causes of neighbour disputes. A tree that is one person’s pride and joy can sometimes be a source of worry and frustration to their neighbours. There is no height restriction on trees. However the owner of the land on which a tree is growing is responsible for its safety and maintenance. But what about over hanging branches that encroach on your property? Well, yes you do have rights here; you have the right to trim branches and limbs that extend past the property line. However, the law only allows tree trimming and tree cutting up to your property line. You may not go onto the neighbour’s property or cut or destroy the tree. The Forestry Act provides that a landowner may cut off any tree branches, which over-hangs his/her property without giving notice to the owner of the tree, but may not cut down the tree or enter on to the land of the tree owner without permission. In so doing, the landowner must take care not to render the tree dangerous and may only cut on the side of and up to his/her boundary line. Moreover the cut timber belongs to the tree owner and has to be given back to him. Of course in any such case the best action is to talk to your neighbour and resolve any problems. Try to keep the discussion friendly and come to an amicable agreement. If this fails you may have to resort to mediation, arbitration or litigation. Due notice must be taken of a recent interesting case of Mr McArdle of Stepaside Co. Dublin, who was was awarded the compensation €50,000 after his neighbour trespassed on his land and cut down seven 50 foot high Pine Trees while he was trying to sell his house. Law Quip: “A lean agreement is better than a fat lawsuit”

IT’S ONLY A JOKE FRYING PAN
A man was sitting reading a newspaper when suddenly his wife hit him on the head with a frying pan. “What was that for? “ The man asked. The wife replied: “That was for the piece of paper with the name Jenny on it that I found in your pants pocket.” The man said: “Ooh..When I was at the races last week, the name of the horse I bet on was Jenny. “ The wife apologized & went on with the housework. 3 days later the man is watching TV when his wife bashed him on the head again with a bigger frying pan. The man shouted in pain. . “What was that for? “ Wife replied: “Your horse phoned. “

The officer approaches and when he looks in the window says: “Just give me a sec here.” Frantically he calls the chief: “Hey chief, I have a problem here, I pulled a guy over for speeding but I’m not sure what to do, he’s a VIP” “Well, who is it? If it’s the mayor, just forget about it.” “No, he’s bigger than the mayor.” “What, the president!” “No, bigger than that.” “Well who is he?” “I don’t know who the heck he is, but he’s got the pope driving for him!”

I took half the money and threw the rest in.” The third lawyer indignantly blusters at the other two “I’m ashamed of you both ripping off an old man like that. Why I’ll have you know I threw in a check for the full amount!”
THERE ARE 2 SISTERS
one is blonde and the other is brunette and they inherit the family farm. Unfortunately, after just a few years, they are in financial trouble. In order to keep the bank from repossessing the farm, they need to purchase a bull from the stockyard in a far town so that they can breed their own stock. They only have $600 left. Upon leaving, the brunette tells her sister, “When I get there, if I decide to buy the bull, I’ll contact you to drive out after me and haul it home.” The brunette arrives at the stockyard, inspects the bull, and decides she wants to buy it. The man tells her that he will sell it for $599, no less. After paying him, she drives to the nearest town to send her sister a telegram to tell her the news. She walks into the telegraph office, and says, “I want to send a telegram to my sister telling her that I’ve bought a bull for our farm. I need her to hitch the trailer to our 4x4 and drive out here so we can haul it home.” The telegraph operator explains that he’ll be glad to help her, and then adds, “It’s just 99 cents a word.” Well, after paying for the bull, the brunette only has $1 left. She realizes that she’ll only be able to send her sister one word. After a few minutes of thinking, she nods and says, “I want you to send her the word comfortable.” The operator shakes his head. “How is she ever going to know that you want her to hitch the trailer to your 4x4 and drive out here to haul that bull back to your farm if you send her just the word “comfortable?” The brunette explains, “My sister’s blonde. It’s a big word. She’ll read it very slowly..

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... KERRY SCIENCE FESTIVAL TO HOLD FIRST EVER “GIRL HACKATHON”
MAGICAL MOZART COMES TO SIAMSA!
Adults and children across the Kerry region are gearing up for what promises to be a busy week of exhibitions, experiments and workshops, as the inaugural Kerry Science Festival is almost upon us. The jam-packed programme of events, which runs from Sunday 13th November to Sunday 20th November, includes free activities and public engagement events to intrigue and enlighten people of all ages. Aside from encouraging young and mature minds across the board to delve into the complex world of science in a fun and engaging way, one of the key objectives of the festival is to appeal to young women who may be considering a career in the field of science and technology. There is currently an obvious and worrying lack of gender diversity within the industry, with only 10 percent of women occupying positions within the engineering sector. This alarming statistic also filters through to the ICT sector in Ireland, with the current ratio of male to female employees lying at 81:19. Given the fact that ICT continues to prove itself as one of the most resilient industries in terms of employment opportunities and remained relatively unscathed during the 2008 financial crisis, this imbalance becomes all the more difficult to understand. However, with the recent development of the EU’s ‘Digital and Jobs Coalition’, which encourages ease of access to digital skills across a wide range of education levels, the range of possibilities and opportunities available to both genders continues to increase. In order to highlight the exciting job opportunities for women in STEM, Kerry Science Festival will host the very first Girls Hackathon in Kerry, which will take place in association with Microsoft. This event aims to enlighten more young women about the opportunities in the digital technology sector and encourages them to get creative with code. A number of schools across the county have been twinned with local companies and will jointly host events. Companies operating in the STEM sector are also encouraged to consider hosting their own events as part of the festival, showcasing where STEM can be found in their business activities. IT Tralee’s STEM Showcase, which is one of the highlights of the week, takes place on Saturday 19th from 11am5pm. This day will feature a range of activities from company career talks and panel discussions facilitated by Lecturer and Broadcaster Dr. Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin to free interactive childrens workshops and shows. A full day of family fun is guaranteed! Details on all of the events as part of Kerry Science Festival can be found at www. kerryscience.com. Kerry Science Festival events are free, but many will require registration as places on interactive workshops are limited. If you are interested in hosting such a Local Kerry Science Festival event, please contact Dr. Noel Mulligan, Head of Department Biological & Pharmaceutical Sciences at IT Tralee by emailing **noel.mulligan@staff. ittralee.ie* <noel.mulligan@staff.ittralee.ie>*.* 18

Fitness Tips from the Brandon Gym Craig and the team answer your queries
Q: What is the difference between weight machines and free weights? A: Here at the Brandon we have both, weight machines and free weights. Weight machines can be a great start for beginners as they are easier to learn and do. Free weights like barbell and dumbbells allow you to move through a range of motion that is completely natural for your specific body. You are also using other muscle groups since you are in full control of the weight. Both types of exercises can serve suitable choices for your workout routine. Q: How long should my workout last? A: Your time spend at the gym will depend on your goal. There really is no such thing as an optimal workout length. There is only optimal program design. As long as your program is designed correctly, that’s all that truly matters. Q: What should I eat after my workout? A: Eating After a Workout Is Important. ... After your workout, your body tries to rebuild its glycogen stores and repair and regrow those muscle proteins. Eating the right nutrients soon after you exercise can help your body get this done faster. It is particularly important to eat carbs and protein after your workout. Q: How important is nutrition? A: Eating a balanced diet is vital for good health and wellbeing. Food provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly. We need a wide variety of different foods to provide the right amounts of nutrients for good health Q: I am at my goal, now what? A: First of all well done for reaching your goal. What you can do is set new, bigger goal. Maintain your current goal or simply add little satisfying goals to improve your well being.

TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)
Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology My laptop won’t power on… What can I do?
This problem can be very simple or very serious but hopefully it is an easy fix. Sometimes a residual electrical charge can keep your laptop from turning on but if you follow these simple steps it can resolve the issue. Disconnect the Power adapter then remove the battery and hold down the power button for 15 – 20 seconds, then plug in the power adapter and hopefully it will power up. If you have gone through all of the sections above and your laptop continues to not turn on, it is likely a hardware component inside your laptop that has failed. But don’t worry about your data 99% of times it can be retrieved.
Sometimes I get no signal from my satellite… What can I do?
Bad weather can interfere with the signal from our satellites to your dish. If you’re experiencing any of these, wait for the weather to return to normal. Another cause can be birds landing on the dish. This can be solved by putting Cable ties in the dish arm. It also could be a faulty LNB. Hello everyone, hope you’re all having a fab week! This week I’m doing a ‘Blogging Tips 101’ for any of you thinking about starting your own blog. 1. BLOG HONESTLY
When you blog, always ensure that the subject/topic of the blogpost is in your own opinion & voice. It’s easy to spot when someone is not giving their honest thoughts and opinions on something. Your blog will be a lot more popular if you are honest in things that you blog about. Remember, your thoughts and opinions are your own and they cannot be mimicked, this will make your blog authentic and easier for people to connect with!
2. ONLY BLOG WHEN YOU’RE INSPIRED
If a blogpost is forced it just won’t end well. It won’t be your best quality or enjoyable. There are times that I sit down with the intentions of blogging but for some reason I simply can’t get inspired. When that happens I just don’t blog. There is absolutely no point in writing a half-arsed blog post for the sake of putting something up! Wait until you get inspiration or an idea and let your thoughts flow.
3. POST REGULARLY
I know I said above only to blog when you’re inspired and I stick to that. But if you only post every now and again and leave huge spaces between your post you won’t gain a strong readership. If people don’t think you’re consistent, they are less likely to revisit your blog often. When you’re inspired to blog, write a few blog posts that you can post a day where you’re not up to blogging. We all have those days!
4. USE WORDPRESS/BLOGSPOT WHEN GETTING STARTED
I was lucky that I did a computer course and knew how to go about starting my blog when I wanted to, it really made things easier. If you’re a newbie I recommend either of those sites to get started. They are user friendly and I have used both. I currently use Blogspot and I design my own blog. It takes a bit o getting used to but that’s all the fun of it.
5. MAKE YOUR BLOG YOUR OWN
I cannot stress enough how important this is. You want your blog to be original and not a copy of any other blog. If you copy posts from another blog it’s not your own and it’s not any bit original. There are thousands of blogs out there so you have to make your blog your own and original. That will make others want to follow and keep up with your blog. Otherwise you’ll be just another blogger and won’t stand out from the crowd. Remember, blog because you want to, blog because you’re inspired, don’t blog for fame or recognition, your posts won’t come across genuine and you won’t succeed in a strong readership!
That’s it for this week! I hope you found this little list of tips helpful! If anyone wants to get in contact with me email me at ‘BexblahBeauty@gmail.com’ or message my Facebook page ‘Bexblah Beauty. Stay Gorge,

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG FRIENDS! I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A FANTASTIC WEEK! This week I’m going to be talking all about why low carb diets don’t work. Trust me, I’ve tried them all and the only thing they do is destroy your metabolism.
As a weight loss strategy, cutting carbs (while reducing the total number of calories) clearly works pretty well for some people. If it didn’t, then Atkins would have never been popular in the first place. Here’s the thing, though: Carb reduction costs us. You see, most of us require some level of carbohydrates to function at our best over the long term. Sure, we can cut carbs temporarily if we need to lose weight quickly. But for most of us, keeping carbs too low for too long can have disastrous consequences. This is especially true for those of us who work out. If you’re sedentary, your carb needs are lower. So you might be able to get away with more restriction.
BUT IF YOU LIKE TO EXERCISE REGULARLY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY, RESTRICTING YOUR CARB INTAKE CAN LEAD TO: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Decreased thyroid output Increased cortisol output Decreased testosterone Impaired mood and cognitive function Muscle loss
In other words: Your metabolism might slow, your stress hormones go up and your muscle-building hormones go down. Women with too-low carb intakes — especially active women — can face: • • • •
a stopped or irregular menstrual cycle; lowered fertility; more body fat (especially around the middle); chronic fatigue and disrupted sleep;
Everything should be in balance. I’m not saying to eat just carbs and only carbs every day, but I am saying that from experience, lots of women’s are afraid of carbs and think that they’re bad. What you really need to look at is how much salt and sugar are in your foods. For example, I recently started a new nutrition plan, more on that next week, and 35 percent of my food every day comes from carb sources.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2016
HEARTY VEG ON A WINTERS NIGHT! So here are a few vegetable dishes that are lovely side dishes for your meal or a great lunch or indeed a vegetarian option . They are hearty and full of flavour on these wintery nights, and don’t forget you can keep upto date with the dishes on both twitter @chefnoelk or instagram @chefnoelkeane
Grill-Roasted Vegetables with Pine Nut Pesto
kale and leek gratin
Quintessential winter vegetables--brussels sprouts, parsnips, butternut squash and carrots--get cooked on the grill, then tossed in a cheesy pine nut pesto.
This gratin combines blanched kale and sauteed leeks, cooked until just tender in a creamy two-cheese sauce made with both Gruyere and Parmigiano-Reggiano
INGREDIENTS
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • •
1 pound carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 pound parsnips, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 pound brussels sprouts, halved lengthwise One 2 1/2-pound butternut squash—peeled, seeded and cut into 1/2-by1 1/2-inch pieces 2 large shallots, cut into 1/2-inch wedges 6 thyme sprigs 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil Salt and freshly ground pepper 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons pine nuts 1 tablespoon unsalted butter 1 large garlic clove, thinly sliced 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
PREPARATION:
1. 2.
3.
4.
In a large bowl, toss the carrots and parsnip pieces with the brussels sprouts, butternut squash, shallots, thyme sprigs and 1/4 cup of the olive oil. Season generously with salt and pepper. Preheat a grill to high heat (about 180°). Place 2 perforated grill pans directly on the grate to heat for about 10 minutes. Divide the vegetables between the grill pans and grill over high heat, stirring and turning occasionally, until they are tender and lightly charred in spots, about 50 minutes. Alternatively, roast the vegetables in a large roasting pan in a 180° oven, stirring them occasionally. Meanwhile, in a small pan, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil. Add the pine nuts and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until they are lightly browned, about 2 minutes. Add the butter and garlic and cook, stirring, until the pine nuts are browned and the garlic is golden, about 2 minutes. Let cool, then transfer to a mini processor. Add the grated cheese and the remaining 3 tablespoons of olive oil and pulse to a chunky puree. Season the pine nut pesto with salt. Transfer the vegetables to a large bowl and toss with the pine nut pesto. Serve hot or warm.
MAKE AHEAD
The pine nut pesto can be refrigerated overnight. Bring to room temperature before proceeding.
• • • • • • • • • • • •
3 pounds kale, large stems discarded 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 6 medium leeks, white and tender green parts only, sliced 1/4 inch thick Salt 3 garlic cloves, minced 6 tablespoons butter 2/3 cup flour 1 pint milk 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg Freshly ground pepper
PREPARATION: 1. 2.
3.
4.
In a large pot of boiling water, blanch the kale in batches until wilted, about 1 minute. Drain the kale, squeeze dry and chop it. Heat the oil in the pot. Add the leeks and a pinch of salt. Cover and cook over moderately low heat, stirring, until tender, 7 minutes. Uncover, add the garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant, 2 minutes. Add the kale, season with salt and remove from the heat. Preheat the oven to 180°. Butter a 10-by-15-inch baking dish. In a large saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in the flour over moderate heat to form a paste. Gradually whisk in one-third of the milk and cook, whisking, until the mixture starts to thicken. Repeat two more times with the remaining milk. Bring the sauce to a boil, whisking constantly. Reduce the heat to low and cook, whisking often, until thickened and no floury taste remains, 15 minutes. Whisk in the cheeses and the nutmeg; season with salt and pepper. Mix the sauce into the leeks and kale. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Bake in the upper third of the oven for about 25 minutes, until bubbling and golden brown on top. Let rest for at least 10 minutes before serving.
MAKE AHEAD
The unbaked gratin can be refrigerated overnight. Bring to room temperature before baking. Recipes by

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... NATIONAL CIRCUS FESTIVAL TO BRING COLOURFUL FUN TO TRALEE THIS WEEKEND
JUST when you got your eyeballs back in their sockets we are back! The 15th annual National Circus Festival of Ireland will get underway in Tralee this week, from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th November 2016. At the heart of the festival is Circus Siamsa, a cutting edge contemporary circus show, held at 2pm and 5.30pm on Saturday 12th November in Siamsa Tíre Theatre where top acts from the UK, Italy, America, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, Israel and France will enthral audiences of all ages. The Artistic Director of the National Circus Festival of Ireland, Con Horgan, said: “When you hear that the Ballygofeck disobedient clown marching band are heading to Tralee or that one of the entertainment stages has Renegade in the title, you’d be right to conclude that an exciting weekend is in store. The National Circus Festival of Ireland is the ultimate contemporary circus event in the country bringing together a host of established and up-coming talent to Tralee. It’s hard to believe that we are celebrating 15 years in 2016 and we intend to make this year’s festival the launch-pad for the next 15 years.” Top international contemporary company Silver Lining present the Irish premiere of Throwback, a fast-paced, feel-good explosion of physical skill and fun at Siamsa Tíre Theatre on Friday 11th November. Moyderwell Hall, KDYS Hall and Tralee Gymnastics Hall will play host to a four-day circus convention where participants will enjoy a full circus, acrobatics and aerial master class programme. On Friday 11th the Grand Hotel Denny St. will play host to Circus Sideshow, a bespoke festival club full of pop-up performances and amazing music from gyphop originators The Latchikos. Circus Sideshow also features 5 x 5, a new initiative supporting upcoming Irish circus. Saturday night is the Renegade Stage; a totally unique evening of absolutely no-holds-barred-anything-goes circus, the open mic of circus. Children will get an opportunity to run away with the circus, for at least one day, at the Children’s Circus Workshops in The Grand Hotel on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th November, 11am and 12 noon both days. There’s plenty of free outdoor entertainment during the weekend with a parade through the streets of Tralee and a performance from Kamchatka - one of the most innovative companies on the European outdoor arts scene – both on Sunday 13th November at 3pm and 4pm respectively. Don’t miss the “pop-up rave” with Street Performance World Champions Lords of Strut, Saturday night, Denny St. 9:30pm and walkabouts from the Kamikaze Clowns, Charlie Chaplin and Ballygofeck Clown Marching Band throughout the weekend. “Top class performers, a completely unique festival for Ireland, workshops for young and old and a full programme of never-seen-before, eye-popping entertainment will provide the ingredients for a quality weekend in Tralee,” said Con Horgan. The National Circus Festival of Ireland is supported by the Arts Council and sponsored by Siamsa Tíre Theatre, the National Folk Theatre of Ireland, Kerry County Council, Tralee Chamber Alliance, Fáilte Ireland and Irish Organisation, Market and Street Traders (IOMST). Full details of the performers, workshops, parade, children’s shows, ISACS seminar and accommodation are available from http://www.circusfestival.ie/.

TORQUING CARS! ELECTRIC CAR MAKER TESLA EYES UK BASE AFTER MAKING FIRST EUROPEAN FORAY
Tesla plans to tap British automotive expertise by establishing a UK base, Elon Musk has said. The billionaire boss of the electric car company announced the move as Tesla made its first major acquisition, buying German engineering business Grohmann as it prepares to automate its production. “We have a lot of respect for the British automotive engineering talent,” the billionaire said. “Just look at Formula 1 - it amazes me how much British talent there is in that. -We are likely to establish a Tesla engineering group in Britain at some point in the future.” Detailing the company’s plans for expansion into Europe, Mr Musk said he “did not see” Brexit and the turmoil it is causing as being likely to have a “significant impact” on Tesla’s long-term aims of making electric cars affordable to more people. “We want to change the world with a lot of electric cars for a lot of people. That is what buying Grohmann is about.” He added that the forthcoming introduction of the Model 3 - the cheapest Tesla yet, and expected to cost about £30,000 when it goes on sale next year - was key to his dream of a world powered by renewable energy. However, the company needs to become more efficient at producing vehicles to achieve this. The acquisition of Grohmann - a specialist in automation - will allow Tesla to speed up its car production, helping it hit its 2018 target of 500,000 vehicles rolling off the production line, five times the current level. “This is about building the machine that builds the machine, which is more important than the [cars] themselves as volume increases,” the Tesla chief said.“Tesla is going to make some very significant investments in Europe - and the US of course,” Mr Musk said. “There is no question of at least one, maybe two or three gigafactory locations in Europe in the future. “Currently Europe is a market for Tesla but we think it the right thing to do is to start producing cars there as soon as we can reasonably do.”
BRAND NEW £37K MERCEDES FOUND ABANDONED ON TRAM TRACKS AS POLICE ARREST MAN FOR DRINK-DRIVING
A brand-new £37,000 Mercedes brought a city centre tram network to a halt for five hours after being dumped on tracks. Transport bosses were forced to halt the service after a driver abandoned a 66 plateMerc in the middle of the rails in Birmingham, at 7am on Sunday. The Wolverhampton to Grand Central service was terminated at St Paul’s Station while a crew from West Midlands Fire Service, a Technical Rescue team and Midland Metro engineers worked for hours to remove the blockage. The service eventually resumed at 1.15pm. British Transport Police said a 33-year-old man from Telford was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. A BTP spokeswoman said: “We were called just after 7am to reports of a car on the tram lines near Snow Hill. It was a grey Mercedes. “A man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He is a 33-year-old man from Telford.”

GAMES-MAD STUDENT TO RACE FOR BMW TEAM AFTER BECOMING ONLINE CHAMPION – BUT HE DOESN’T OWN A CAR
Talented Josh Martin has signed a contract to drive a BMW 3 series race car next year with central Scotland-based motorsport team ProRace UK As games-mad student is to race cars professionally – after becoming a champion online. Josh Martin, who doesn’t have his own car , honed his skills by playing video game Assetto Corsa in his bedroom for up to eight hours a day when he was a teenager. Now he has signed a contract to drive a BMW 3 series race car next year with central Scotland-based motorsport team ProRace UK. The psychology student, from Muir of Ord, Easter Ross, is the first E-sports athlete to represent a racing team. Josh, 20, is one of the highest ranked E-racers in the world and has won 15 ¬championship titles, holds 17 world records and has won more than 500 races. He said: “I started playing with friends when I was 11 or 12 and I turned out to be really good at it. I thought I needed to start taking things more seriously.” Despite never having raced a car before, he is confident he can mix it with other drivers who have been racing go-karts and other vehicles for years. Josh said: “The next thing is getting in training to build the muscles in my neck as the one thing the game doesn’t replicate is the G-forces you experience. Josh will be competing on racetracks such as Scotland’s premier circuit, ¬Knockhill in Fife, as well as Formula 1’s British Grand Prix tracks Brands Hatch and ¬Silverstone. He is learning his way round on his ¬simulator, complete with seat, wheel, pedal and gearstick, and is just over three weeks away from putting a team BMW through its paces at up to 130mph for the first time. He said: “Traditionally, motor racing has been a rich man’s sport. When I started, I realised I was good at it, and that this was a way of getting into it for a ¬fraction of the price.”

FANTASTIC 2 DAY EVENT AT CREMUR THIS WEEKEND KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: PATERNITY LEAVE Question My wife is expecting a baby early next year. Will I be entitled to time off work after the birth? Answer Yes. Under the Paternity Leave and Benefit Act 2016, eligible parents include: • The father of the child • The spouse, civil partner or cohabitant of the mother of the child • The parent of a donor-conceived child • In the case of an adopted child, an eligible parent includes: • The nominated parent in the case of a married same-sex couple or • The spouse, civil partner or cohabitant of the adopting mother or sole male adopter The Act provides for statutory paternity leave of 2 weeks. You can start paternity leave at any time within the first 6 months following the birth or adoption placement. You must notify your employer in writing that you intend to take paternity leave and provide your intended dates no later than 4 weeks before your leave. FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR THE DAY OF THE UNDERDOG IS HERE:
20! So if you are in a dressing room for the rest of this year and you are facing a team or opponent that is the overwhelming favourite just take a minute and say the names of the Irish Rugby team, the Chicago Cubs and Donald Trump!! And who knows what the result will be!! CAHERSLEE/STRAND ROAD COMMUNITY GAMES - AWARDS NIGHT 13TH NOVEMBER 2016:
What a time it is for the underdog!! Everywhere we look since Leicester City’s win of the Premiership last season it seems that in sport and politics those who once had no chance are now turning out to be the winners. It is impossible to write about underdogs this week without mentioning Donald Trump and his amazing win. And that’s all I am going to say as my (mainly favourable) views on the new President are for different pages. However staying in America and we have seen last week the Chicago Cubs win baseball’s World Series for the first time since their double win in 1907 and 1908. That 108 year drought is one of the longest in sport. Their version of Mayo Funeral Curse was the Curse of the Billy Goat! Supposedly the owner of the goat William Sianis was asked to leave Wrigley Field because of the odour of Murphy the Goat. Leaving the ground he said “them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more”! If we thought that was a long time we then witnessed the Irish rugby team defeating the All Blacks after a 111 year wait. The 40-29 win, ironically in Soldier Field in Chicago, came against a New Zealand side that was at the top of its powers. The first meeting of the sides was in 1905 with Ireland losing 15-0 and they lost 27 of the next 28, with one draw in 1973 which makes the win so memorable. Locally just looking at a few GAA results at the weekend and the Fossa club, under trainer John Evans, won their first ever County Championship title, the Castleisland Mart Junior Football championship, while Lispole captured the Novice, their first in many years. So who should now be feeling a little better and that their day could just be round the corner! Mayo are the obvious candidates and they had their chance this year but failed to take it. However they are nothing if not resilient and will be back, buoyed by all the hoodoos that have ended. Reds fans will begin to dream that Liverpool’s long wait of over 9700 days to winning the League title is over. And they are top of the table so could this be their year. Of course those in clubs and their fans must always remember the difference between a losing hoodoo and something that will never happen. There is no point in saying that Kerry have not won the All Ireland hurling title since 1891 is a sporting hoodoo!! But then if you look at the progress of the hurlers over the last 10 years who knows where they can go in the next

ON THE HARDWOOD: WARRIORS DOWN THE SAINTS: IRISH TV Warriors 78-60 DCU Saints:
Friday 11th November 2016
In the end, the final score line (78/60) indicated a pretty convincing win for Warriors over DCU Saints in Round 5 of the Superleague in the Tralee Sports Complex last Saturday night. However, the visitors who were without a few key and influential figures pushed Warriors all the way, even if, the locals retained a scoring advantage in double figures for long periods of the encounter. With Goran Pantovic imposing his considerable presence on proceedings throughout all of the opening quarter and scoring fourteen points, Warriors led (24-9) at the end of that opening period. Kieran Donaghy’s influence in all facets of play was also quite notable, as indeed were Trae Pemberton’s penetrating drives, and clinical finishing. With Coach Mark Bernsten continually rotating his squad which, at one stage featured five Tralee players on court Warriors led (42-29) at the break, and Warriors were well in front (6044) going into the fourth and final quarter. However, a strong response from the Saints with a scoring surge including threes from Eoin Darling and Tariq Guebaili meant that the deficit was reduced to single figures (64-57) with 4.46 remaining. It certainly asked questions about the Tralee sides character, but, they responded with Pemberton and Leonard to the fore, and ultimately closed out the game with Pantovic finishing strongly to record, what was, in the end, a pretty comfortable, if hard earned victory. Warriors Scorers: Goran Pantovic (26), Trae Pemberton (21), Kieran Donaghy (15) Ryan Leonard (9). This weekend Warriors are away to Pyrobel Killester in Clontarf at 7pm. Killester are on 3 wins from their 5 games just below Warriors who have 4 wins from 5. U20’s: Tralee Imperials Men’s u20’s play in the National Cup this Sunday when they take on Phoenix in Mercy Mounthawk with a 3.45pm tip-off. ST. BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NOTES: Boys U14 A: St Brendan’s 31-30 KCYMS: This was a cracking game in Moyderwell with the Tralee side just getting past the Killorglin boys by the narrowest of margins. St Brendan’s trailed by 3 points at the end of the first quarter but 8 points from Graham Sheehy saw them leading 19-14 at the break. While Killorglin came out strong in the second half the Tralee boys stepped up their game and it was neck and neck. With 19 seconds left on the clock Brendan’s trailed by 1 when Graham Sheehy was fouled going to the basket. He showed great composure to make the 2 free throws and St Brendan’s got their first win of the season, a well-deserved reward for all their hard work. Graham Sheehy was the top scorer on 10 points with Eddie Sheehy on 8. Boys u16 Division 3: St Brendan’s 35 – 26 Rathmore: There was nothing between the sides in the first quarter with the sides level 6 apiece. But by half time Brendan’s led by 5 and they managed to stay ahead until the end of the game. The team is unbeaten in their four games this season. In the Boy’s u14 Division 1 St Brendan’s were big winners over Glenbeigh Falcons 54-17. TRIO OF PREVIOUS WINNERS SET FOR THIS WEEKEND’S KERRY WINTER RALLY: The three most recent winners of the Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Rally will lead the event away this Sunday, November 13th. Stephen McCann has Killarney’s Damien Fleming on the notes in their new Ford Fiesta S2000. Fellow Killarney co-driver Shane Buckley will be alongside Daniel Cronin with the pair winning in 2015 and being the runner’s up last year. They will drive the car that won the event for McCann last year. The home fans will be cheering on Mike Quinn and Tony Healy in their Ford Escort Mk2. The duo won the rally after

The Desmond League and West Cork drew 0-0 in their first game. Dynamos Down: Dingle Bay Rovers should that last season’s KDL Premier win was no fluke as they knocked Tralee Dynamos out of the Munster Junior Cup at the semi-final stage.
