Dentures are the past, dental implants are the future. Say goodbye to dentures and adhesives FOREVER!
L-R Dr. Roisin Boyle, Dr Helena Casey, Dr Colm O'Loghlen and Dr Susan Van Der Merwe
Are you tired of sore gums, ill fitting dentures and messy denture adhesive? Would you love to smile and eat with confidence? Teeth in a Day (All on 4) is a proven, revolutionary dental treatment for a patient that is missing all their natural teeth and who
is tired of wearing an ill fitting and often sore denture. While there are many options available to people who struggle with an ill-fitting denture, our ‘Teeth in a Day’ (Implant Supported Bridges) offer you the chance to throw your denture away for good and feel the benefits of never having to worry about a denture again. They are a permanent solution that with proper care will never need to be replaced. Implant Supported Bridges are attached to dental implants for a permanent new set of teeth that look and feel natural and are non removable. No more putting your dentures in a glass overnight. Instead you brush your teeth as you would with natural teeth, in fact some of our patients have commented ‘it feels like my own teeth grew back!’
Regain your confidence with a smile you can be proud of! Embarrassed to smile because you are missing one or several teeth?
Before
After

"I am a very nervous person, I never thought I would be able for this treatment. I had sedation and I had 4 implants placed in my upper jaw. It did not hurt and I did not feel a thing. The All on 4 implant bridge has changed the way I live my life. No way I'd go back, no regrets."

Medical Matters POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH FOR TEENAGERS AND YOUNG ADULTS Dr David Buckley Young people are under a lot of pressure these days with exam stress, bullying, social media pressures, drugs and alcohol abuse. If you or one of your family or friends are under pressure, try some or all of these tips for positive mental health: 1. Recognise that you are a person of worth. Be realistic about what you can do and give yourself credit for what you have already achieved. 2. Everybody gets stressed at times. However, if you feel stressed or depressed for more than two weeks or if you are feeling suicidal, talk to someone. Don’t worry alone. 3. You must learn to accept some discomfort as part of life. 4. You cannot control everything in life. 5. Don’t always rely on ‘’helicopter parents’’, to drop in at a moment’s notice to fix everything; try to sort it out yourself first. 6. Not everything you read on the internet is true. “Reality TV” is NOT real. 7. Don’t put anything on social media that you would not like to appear on the front page of the local newspaper. 8. Cherish the friends you are with and deal with “on line” friends later when you are alone. Live in the moment. Not every experience needs to be photographed or videoed. 9. Drink alcohol sensibly. Never take illegal drugs.
10. If you are in a new sexual relationship always use a condom. 11. “Hard porn” enforces the idea that women enjoy being dominated or degraded during sex. This in not true. 12. Take up a sport or hobby that involves strenuous physical exercise. 13. Get enough sleep and maintain a regular sleeping pattern. Switch off your phone at night or at least put it on silent. 14. Eat sensibly and cut down on fatty or sugary foods and drinks. 15. Develop an absorbing hobby. Do something for others. 16. Try to avoid mean or annoying people. Keep a distance from those who drain you emotionally. 17. Try not to put things off until tomorrow what you can do today; ‘’just do it !’’ 18. Manage your time well. Set a timetable and do not overload it. Do one job at a time and don’t be afraid to say ‘’No’’.

Did You Know That 27 People Die Of Heart Attack In Ireland Every Day? Heartfelt Cardio Screening is coming to your area soon, with the revolutionary BPro pulse wave analysis device, providing affordable and accurate heart and artery screenings. The BPro and A-Pulse Casp has been developed by Healthstats in Singapore and can calculate a person’s central aortic systolic pressure (CASP) (blood pressure closest to the heart) accurately and noninvasively. The A-Pulse has been validated in clinical trials to have an accuracy of 99.17%, as compared to the angiogram. The BPro Cardio Pulse-Wave screening measures the aortic pressure as well as the flexibility of your arteries. Screenings are carried out by a Healthstats certified technician and a full printout of the results are given on the day which can be brought back to your own GP or cardiologist if necessary. The procedure is non-invasive and completely pain-free. The cost of an individual BPro test is €50 per adult with a 10% discount (€90) for a couple. There is also a 20% discount for groups of 12 or more people e.g. Sports Clubs, Business Screening etc.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Garvey’s SuperValu Enjoys Double Fresh Food awards
Garvey’s SuperValu in Tralee has enjoyed a double victory at the prestigious Checkout ‘Best in Fresh’ Awards. The long-established Kerry retailer scooped the awards for ‘Best Presentation of Fresh Food’ and ‘Excellence in Fresh Food Retailing in a Large Supermarket’.
The awards, which are now in their twelfth year, were set up to recognise excellence in fresh food retailing across a range of categories, including fruit and veg, fresh meat and fish, bakery, dairy and in-store equipment. Garvey’s SuperValu fended off stiff competition from other finalists in the category to receive the much-coveted accolades at the awards, which took place at the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin on
July 3rd.
Receiving the awards at the Shelbourne Hotel on behalf of the store, SuperValu Garvey’s Managing Director, Kevin McCarthy, paid tribute to the SuperValu Tralee team and acknowledged that their expertise and dedication were central to the store winning the ‘Best In Fresh’ awards. “This was a back to back successes for the Garvey Group as SuperValu Tralee won the same award last year and our Dingle store received the award in 2016. That’s three years in a row for “excellence in fresh food retailing” in a large supermarket. We won these awards thanks to our staff’s commitment to excellence and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for all of their
hard work and dedication. (left to right) Michael Morgan, Sales Director, SuperValu, Kevin McCarthy, Managing Director, Garvey’s SuperValu

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Ardfert Youth Club win Irish Cancer Society X-HALE Youth Award Ardfert Youth Club from Kerry has been awarded the Online Community prize at the Irish Cancer Society X-HALE Youth Awards 2018. The group scooped the award for the most views on YouTube of its short film “Think Twice” which was showcased at the recent event in the Helix in Dublin. The winning film was watched almost 3000 times. Fellow Kerry groups, Castleisland KDYS and Ógras, Tralee, also entered a short film to the competition. Over 350 young people from 45 youth and community groups came together to showcase their anti-tobacco films and projects which they created to contribute towards establishing Ireland’s first smoke-free generation. Donal Buggy, Head of
Services at the Irish Cancer Society said: “Thankfully, smoking rates have declined but there’s still a lot more work to do. These findings are extremely worrying. “We need to look at what Ardfert Youth Club, Castleisland KDYS, Ógras, Tralee and the rest of the #TheXGeneration are saying. The entries submitted show that young people truly understand the dangers of smoking and the power of the tobacco industry. They people have a vital role to play on the journey to Ireland becoming a tobacco-free country.” I would like to congratulate Ardfert Youth Club on winning their award and for making a positive impact on their health and that of their peers.

From Queen Bee to King Puck With just over a month to go before Ireland’s oldest festival kicks off for another year, the Puck Fair committee officially launched the 2018 programme during an exciting event that was held at Sheahan’s Bar, The Square, Killorglin last week. This year’s event was particularly special not only for the Killorglin community, but also for the county as a whole, as a well-known and inspirational young Kerry man was on hand to officially launch the age-old event. Fresh from a recent appearance on The Late Late Show, during which he spoke with admirable positivity about his continuing recovery following last year’s cycling tragedy that left him paralysed from the neck down, Ian O’Connell from Killarney, Co. Kerry took time from his schedule to launch Puck Fair 2018, beginning the celebrations with the enthusiasm he is known for. His inspiring motto, “If you can’t stand up, stand out!”, even attracted the attention of his idol Conor McGregor, who paid tribute to the determined teen on Instagram. The launch event on Saturday 7th July marked the culmination of a 16

busy day for the 16-year-old, who also attended the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle that morning to support those cycling the arduous 175km trail in order to raise funds for the Ian O’Connell Trust, which was set up to ensure the continuation of his ongoing and lengthy rehabilitation. Another VIP in attendance on the night was none other than King Puck himself, who this year made an early appearance in a very unique form. Looking bigger and brighter than ever (in spite of his 400+ years), King Puck now reigns permanently over the town of Killorglin thanks to the creativity and vision of artist Dan Leo, who painted a mural of the famous folklore figure on the wall of the CYMS Hall in the town centre. While King Puck is currently the focus of attention in the town centre, his spotlight will soon be stolen by another very famous figure, who is gearing up to take to the stage as the eagerly-awaited headline act of Puck Fair 2018. Singer Jake Carter, the reigning champion of RTÉ’s Dancing with the Stars and brother of the equally famous Nathan Carter, will perform on the main festival stage on Sunday 12th August, bringing the festival Friday 13th July 2018
to a stylish and energetic close. This year’s festival will also feature live music from The Swing Cats (Friday 10th August) and The Cosmic Funk Band (Saturday 11th August), as well as acrobatics from Wobbly Circus Street Show; puppet shows by Kidspartyclub Kerry; children’s entertainment provided by Kingdom Party Pals; Fancy Dress and Bonny Baby Competitions; performances by Afro Trad Ireland and much more. The opening day of Puck Fair, Friday 10th August, will be marked with the annual Coronation Parade and Ceremony, while the Dethronement festivities and subsequent fireworks on the final day of the festival
(Sunday 10th August) will provide the perfect ending to Ireland’s most famous yearly event. For pictures and live updates, check out www.facebook.com/ puckfair or twitter @puck_fair and visit YouTube to view puckfairofficial videos.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Anne Lundon (artist ) talks about her afternoon Art Classes in Dingle “After a tragedy in my own family I turned to Art as a source of
freedom from thoughts. I became an Art tutor and discovered a process, which can unleash the inner artist in everyone. When people say, “I cannot draw a straight line” My reply is always that there are no straight lines in nature, you do not want to be an engineer or architect! My system can help people learn to paint decent paintings to be proud of. Painting is a joyous experience and I now delight when I see the Eureka moment on people’s faces when they have created a painting to be proud even if they never held a brush in their hand before i.e. when they found their mojo through Mindful Art! “ Classes daily over Boylesports, Main Street Dingle 2-5pm Call Anne on 0857035677 A former student “I was so focused on the act of painting while learning that I decided this hobby would be my new mindfulness.” Ingrid

Kerry U-17’s go out of Cup away to Cork City Match report from Padraig Harnett
On Wednesday night Kerry went out of the Mark Farran Cup on a score-line that flatters the home side just a little In a tight first half Kerry went close on occasions through John Hayes, Nathan Gleeson and Boki Nikic. But they also needed Pat Dowling to make a great clearance off the line after Shane O’Connell made a great save. Kerry had a great chance to take the lead in the 67th minute with Cork just scrambling away efforts from Junior Ankomah and David Oba. And they were made pay two minutes later when Jamie O’Sullivan cracked home a cracker from 20 yards. They got their second in the 82nd minute when Josh Lombardi powered home a header from a Ronan O’Brien corner. With Kerry pushing to get one back they were caught in the last minute when Ricardo Dininga scored on the break. Padraig 18

WEIGHT TRAINING
Hello my strong friends, this week I’m talking all about weight training and how it can help you achieve your goals! different muscle groups on different days.
My current training split looks a bit like this… DAY 1 – LEGS DAY 2 – UPPER BODY DAY 3 – LEGS DAY 4 – UPPER BODY DAY 5 – LEGS DAY 6 - HIIT DAY 7 - ACTIVE REST DAY In general, people will practice cardio(running, cycling etc) and forget about weight training when it comes to burning fat. And there are still many trainers who will say that aerobic exercises burn off fat and weight lifting is only used to build muscle bulk. This statement is not correct because the more muscle mass one acquires through weight-bearing exercises, the more they will burn fat calories — even at rest. Cardio combined with weight training will result in effective fat loss. Cardio exercises will raise muscle metabolism during the activity and for a short time after the exercise session. Weight training, on the other hand, will raise your muscle metabolism during the exercise session — and for a long time after the exercise session. Some high intensity trainers have even seen their metabolism rise for several days following their training session. Whether your goal is to tone or build muscles, it is important to know what happens during the muscle training process. When lifting weights, muscle tissues are torn apart (at the microscopic level) from the stress, and it’s in the recovery period that your muscles become stronger and, therefore, able to support the extra stress. Usually the recovery period required is 24 to 48 hours after a weight training session so it’s good to train 24
TRALEE ADVERTISER
It is so so SO important to fuel your body efficiently when weight training. You need to give yourself the correct food especially carbs and protein, so that your muscles recover and you have energy to fuel your sessions. If you are in any way confused about nutrition and what you should be eating, get in touch with a good well informed personal trainer. I highly recommend Recalibrated Bodies, they strive to inform all their clients on why they’re eating what they’re eating and don’t cut out ‘bad’ foods. If you go to a personal trainer who tells you to basically eat plain chicken, broccoli and rice or something to that effect… RUN!!! A good PT won’t cut out food groups or drastically cut carbs, trust me.
Friday 13th July 2018
Anybody who debates the fact that weight-bearing exercises don’t help people lose weight and fat should lift weights for one hour and see their heart rate go through the roof. I definitely sweat a lot more when I do a good weights session. An important factor to consider when trying to lose weight is that lots of muscle mass can be lost as a result. As muscle mass will keep your metabolism high, try to avoid quick weight loss through miracle diets or starvation. This weight loss will be regained just as quickly. Instead go for a gradual fat loss routine by combining weight training and cardio, and allow muscle mass to build up and increase your metabolism. Results may take a little longer, but they will last for a longer period of time. If you do a quick fix weightloss ‘diet’ then you won’t get the results you actually want. Just don’t focus on how long it will take to get to your goals, just focus on yourself day by day and the changes will come, I promise.

“Master, why does my ability not improve? I’m always defeated.” And the master, pensive and forever patient, answers: “My dear pupil, have you seen the gulls flying by the setting sun, and their wings seeming like flames?” “Yes, my master, I have.” “And a waterfall, spilling mightly over the stones without taking anything out of its proper place?” “Yes, my master, I have witnessed it.” “And the moon... when it touches the calm water to reflect all its enormous beauty?” “Yes, my master, I have also seen this marvelous phenomenon.” “That is the problem. You keep watching all this shit instead of training.”
FOUR SURGEONS....
Four surgeons sit around discussing their favorite patients. The first surgeon says, “I like operating on librarians. When you open them up, everything is in alphabetical order”. The second surgeon says, “I like operating on accountants. When you open them up, everything is in numerical order”. The third surgeon says, “I like operating on electricians. When you open them up, everything is color coded.” The fourth surgeon says, “I like operating on politicians.” The other three surgeons look at each other in disbelief. The fourth surgeon continues, “Because they’re heartless, gutless, spineless, and the ass and head are interchangeable.”
AN OLD MAN GOES INTO A RESTAURANT...
An old man goes into a restaurant and is seated. All the waitresses are gorgeous. A particularly voluptuous waitress wearing a very short skirt and legs that won’t quit walks up to his table and asks if he is ready to order. “What would you like, sir?” He looks at the menu, scans her beautiful frame top to bottom, then answers, “A quickie.” The waitress turns

and walks away in disgust. After she regains her composure, she returns and asks again, “What would you like, sir?” Again, the old man thoroughly checks her out and answers, “I’d like a quickie, please.” This time, the waitress’s anger takes over -- she reaches over and slaps him across the face with a resounding “SMACK!” and storms away. A man sitting at the next table leans over and whispers, “Um, I think it’s pronounced ‘quiche.’”

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Tralee Triathlon Club launches Tri Kingdom Come With perfect conditions this summer for training, now is the time to sign up for this year’s Tri Kingdom Come Triathlon in Fenit on Saturday, August 4. Already billed as one of the most scenic triathlons in Kerry, it is also one of the most popular and will be another sell-out event this year. The 750m swim, 20k cycle and 5k run in Fenit is a must do on the triathlon list and for those who have want to try their first triathlon there is also Try-a-Tri distance allowing athletes to dip into the world of triathlon. The Try-a-Tri distance is a 250m swim, an 8k bike and a 2.5k run. Tri Kingdom Come was officially launched last week and entries are selling fast for what is one of Tralee’s key sporting events, attracting athletes from all over the county and further afield. Tri Kingdom is also a community event and funds from the triathlon will be
donated to a host of local organisations and clubs in Fenit to support the area that hosts Tralee Triathlon club every summer. The swim course is a 750m swim in Fenit Bay looking at the scenic views of Fenit beach, following by a 20k cycle into Tralee and back in a relatively hilly but fast course followed by a 5k run past the former Lighthouse Hill towards Churchhill. Race Director, John Quilter, says that the event is a relaxed and fun event giving triathletes a great course to test their fitness. “We guarantee a fun event in a wonderful location for all athletes so don’t miss out on this superb Tralee event.” “Funds raised from the event will also go towards local organisations making ensuring this is a community event for all to enjoy.” Registration details for Tri Kingdom Come are on Tralee
Front l-r Mark Cushen and Tralee Triathlon Club chairman, Francis Foley. Back l-r Darragh Larkin, Ailis Brosnan and Pat Browne Triathlon Club’s Facebook page or website and will close on July 30 or before if places fill up. Relay teams are also welcome so there is no excuse for not being part of this special event.
The local community are also advised that road closures are in place on Saturday, August 4 to facilitate the event from 11am to 2pm. The race starts at 11am.
Unique Bike Hire initiative launched at Tralee Wetlands A unique older adult bike hire programme, called Rediscover Cycling, was officially launched by Chairperson of Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership Mr. Jimmy Deenihan July 9th at Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre. Fexco to create 175 new jobs in KILLORGLIN KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: NOISY NEIGHBOURS Question Our neighbours often have noisy parties that keep us awake at night. We don’t really want to call the Gardaí – what else can we do?

Answer Noise nuisance can be a frustrating problem, especially if your family’s sleep is disturbed. You should first talk to your neighbours about the noise and explain how it is affecting your family. Keep a note of these discussions. You could also keep a noise diary, noting the type of noise, time, date, duration and its effects on your family. If this doesn’t work, you can write to your neighbours, giving details of the noise and how it is disturbing you. You may suggest to them that you will take legal action if the noise continues. Keep copies of your communication with them. If your neighbours are private tenants, they are not allowed to engage in anti-social behaviour – this includes persistent noise that interrupts the peace of other homes. You can complain directly to the landlord if you do not get a satisfactory response from the tenants. You can also complain to the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) if the landlord does not deal with the problem. (The landlord must be registered with the Residential Tenancies Board.) Tenants of local authority housing must also avoid any nuisance (including noise) to other people in the neighbourhood. If the noise persists, the tenants are in breach of their tenancy agreement and the local authority can take steps to enforce the terms of the agreement. If the noise continues to be a problem, you could check if there are mediation services available in your area to help you resolve the dispute. You can also file a complaint in the District Court. At least seven days before the date for the hearing of your case, you must serve notice on your neighbours, using the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992 - noise form of notice. If the court finds in your favour, it can order your neighbours to take measures to prevent or limit the noise.

TORQUING CARS! HOW PEUGEOT IS BUCKING THE TREND WITH NEW 508 SALOON
With every Irish motorist seemingly running headlong for an SUV, it’s refreshing to see a manufacturer taking a serious tilt at a proper saloon. When I first saw the Peugeot 508 at the Geneva Motor Show, I thought it was a real looker. Since driving it in Monaco, where it didn’t look out of place, I haven’t changed my mind. There’s a hint of American muscle car at the rear. Although it’s called a saloon, it’s really a 5dr coupe design with a sleek and rakish profile featuring frameless windows. It’s shorter and lower than the car it replaces and a consequence of the lowered roof line is that rear seat passengers are tight on headroom, particularly when getting in and out. Once inside, though, the cabin is a delight, featuring the best iteration yet of Peugeot’s iCockpit concept. A tiny steering wheel, a switchable highresolution instrument panel mounted in the driver’s eyeline and a second infotainment screen combine to signal the car’s sporty intent. Materials are first rate and the whole look is sleek and modern as Peugeot edges into premium territory. Engines will be a mix of petrol and diesel, starting with a brand-new 1.5 litre HDi (130bhp), which promises to be among the cleanest on the road; 2.0 litre diesels with outputs up to 180bhp will also feature and there will be two PureTec petrols with 180bhp or 225bhp in the GT model. A plug-in hybrid, Peugeot’s first, will follow, but not until late next year. The standard transmission for all models, except base trim, will be the newly updated EAT8 auto, which will also find its way into other Peugeot models.
NEW DIESEL JEEP WRANGLER SUV DUE HERE IN A FEW MONTHS
JEEP has outlined some details for its new Wrangler SUV, which is scheduled to get here this autumn. It will major on a new 2.2-litre diesel to battle for buyers in its competitive market segment. There will also be a 2-litre petrol. Jeep claims the new SUV is the most capable on and off-road in its history, with two full-time four-wheel drive on-demand systems, depending on trim. They include the Command-Trac 4x4 and Rock-Trac 4x4 systems with high and low ratios. Towing capacity is up to 1,500kgs (2dr models) and 2,500 kg (4dr versions). All engine options have the new 8spd automatic transmission. Whatever about rugged off-road ability, people still want their creature comforts and infotainment too. The Wrangler gets a new Uconnect system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the choice of 5ins, 7ins or 8.4ins touchscreens. Safety assistance includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross Path detection and a rear backup camera. The new car is the latest in a long line - the Wrangler story began back in 1941. It will be interesting to see how it fares in 2018 and beyond - realistically it will be a 191-reg proposition. Prices and spec have yet to be announced for Ireland.
LAW COSTS BLAMED FOR ESCALATING INSURANCE PREMIUMS
Legal costs are one of the reasons insurance costs are so high, a group fighting for lower premiums has maintained. The threat of having to spend huge amounts defending questionable claims means insurers often settle which pushes up prices, the Alliance for Insurance Reform (AIR) said. Some seven out of 10 personal injuries claims are settled privately by insurers, with just 10pc going to court. AIR, which represents businesses and charities hit by premium hikes, said legal costs have become an obstacle. Director of the lobby group Peter Boland said Government reports have found legal and other charges add an additional 42pc to 45pc to injury awards. A Department of Finance report last year stated that on a €100,000 payout there is another €42,000 in legal costs. The department reported that injury compensation of €100,000 would result in an average of another €24,900 to cover claimants’ legal and other costs. An additional €17,200 paid the insurer’s overall costs. Mr Boland said that if an injury case is settled through the Personal Injuries Assessment Board, the delivery costs (legal and other experts) amount to 6pc of the award. The assessment board generally does not pay legal costs. “However, if the award is rejected by the plaintiff and the case goes to court, then the percentage taken by the legal profession and other experts rockets to 45pc, according to the Government’s ‘Cost of Insurance Working Group’ report,” he said. Insurance Ireland insisted legal costs were a major factor behind premium rises. It said: “If we want reform of the cost of insurance, we must urgently tackle the cost of claims and the cost of settling them, including our high legal fees.” Ken Murphy, director general of the Law Society, which represents solicitors, disputed suggestions that rising legal fees are playing a role in the rising cost of motor insurance. He said the legal profession was being blamed for doing its job of getting a fair deal for clients, while insurers had yet to explain the enormous rises in premiums.

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR BUSY PERIOD ON THE GAA FRONT CONTINUES: As neither the GAA or FIFA took any notice of the requests to change the times of either the Super 8’s or the World Cup final Sunday afternoon will be a busy day for sports fans!! Kerry will be hoping to continue their good form and get an opening win which will set them up to top the Group. Obviously they will not take the away game at Monaghan or the home game against Kildare for granted but a win here would be the ideal start. Kerry will also be keeping an eye on the game between those other two teams as the loser their really does have an up -hill battle to make the top 2. The squad and management will also be cognisant that Dublin – not withstanding their double home advantage – will be expected to top the other Group. With first playing second then if Kerry can top their group they won’t Dublin until what many are hoping for – the All Ireland final. The other thing that the management will be telling the players is that if teams finish level after the Group stages there is a formula in place to decide the final placing starting with the head to head and then score difference. Staying with football and the Kerry Juniors put a depleted squad and a long journey to the side as they saw off Kildare to reach the decider. They will face Galway as they are only one game away from a 4th All Ireland title in a row. This Sunday it’s the u20’s who will take on Kildare in their much anticipated All Ireland semifinal. Kildare showed that their improvement at senior level is also being seen at under-age as they defeated Dublin this week to reach this stage. Kerry will be hoping that a big heads to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on Saturday before they head for Dublin. The u20’s game throwing in at 4pm is proceeded by the Kerry u21 B hurlers who also play Kildare. This is in the quarter final of the Richie McElligott Cup. The Kerry side had a good win over Down last week so will be high on confidence as they bid to reach the last 4. One side already through to their

All Ireland decider is the Kerry u16 Girls. Continuing the connections this season with the Lilywhites it was Kildare that the girls beat in their quarter final after extra time. This high scoring cracker ended 4-14 each after normal time. However the Kerry management and strength and conditioning coaches will be delighted as they took over in extra time. Kerry hit 2-04 to Kildares 2 points to take the win 6-18 to 4-16. The u16 Girls will now look to continue the great success of the underage squads over the last few years as they face old rivals and reigning All Ireland champions Galway. They defeated Down easily in their last four encounter. The Kerry senior girls will be looking to bounce back for their second half collapse against Cork in the Munster final as they look to get their All Ireland Group stage off to a winning start. The provincial and All Ireland series are separate in the Ladies game and so Kerry can now forget about the Cork game. Donegal are the other team in the Group and Kerry must make the long trip so a win against Tipp is vital. LADIES FIRST – KERRY CAMOGIE NEWS: Kerry will commence their AllIreland Premier Junior Camogie Championship campaign in Abbeydorney on Saturday at 5pm when they welcome Clare to Tom Healy Park. Having captured the Littlewoods Ireland Division 3 Camogie Title and having battled gamely in the Munster Junior Camogie Final, the Kerry girls are looking forward to the upcoming campaign. All support would be appreciated. The Kerry U16 Camogie Team travelled to St. Rynagh’s in Offaly last Sunday to face Tyrone in the second game of the All-Ireland U16C Camogie Championship. This was a must win game after a one-point loss at home to Mayo on the previous Sunday. The Kerry Girls hit the ground running and it was indeed a goal fest as they held a 12-5 to 2-5 halftime lead. To their credit, the Tyrone girls never gave up and found the Kerry net on two occasions in the second half. However, Kerry took the spoils on a score line of 13-9 Friday 13th July 2018
to 4-9. BALLYMAC NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 5,8,12 and 28 with the next jackpot being e8,300 with the draw due to take place on Sunday night in O’Dwyer’s Bar. Those who support the club through annual Lotto tickets are reminded that these are now due to be renewed. Club members are also reminded that membership is also now due for renewal. Juveniles: The u14 Girls train in mid -week ahead of their upcoming North Kerry Ladies Football League next month. The 16’s were at home on Wednesday night in their first Division 7B game of the u16 County Football League and we will have the result next week. The Senior B team travelled to Listowel Emmets for their Round 5 Junior Football League game but came out on the wrong side of a high scoring encounter 8-05 to 3-18. They are due to play An Ghaeltacht next Monday night with the semi-finals due to be played on July 20th. The next county league match is a Round 9 fixture away to St Senans this Saturday, 14th July at 7.30pm in Mountcoal with all support greatly appreciated. The St Pats Cul Camp will take place between the 6th and 10th of August from 10am to 2.30pm every day. The Camp provides boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13 with action packed and fun-filled week of activities during the summer holidays. Cost is €60 per child with reductions for additional children and booking is now open. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The A’s had a break and are looking forward to the remaining two rounds of the League as they are in second place on 11 points with everything to play for. Their next game is at home to Glenbeigh/Glencar tonight Friday night at 7.15pm in Strand Road and the team is hoping for a big home crowd. The final game is away to Beaufort. The B’s County League is over and now they look forward to the
Town League which commences next Wednesday July 18th at home to Ardfert at 7.30pm. Also in the Group are the Stacks, Na Gaeil, John Mitchels and Ballymac. The u21’s are waiting to see who they will face on Tuesday July 24th in their opening Championship game. The Minors will contest the Munster Chimney Solutions Tralee Town League Division 2 League final against Ardfert on Friday July 20th at 6pm with the venue to be decided. The Junior Blues played Na Gaeil in a number of games which both sides enjoyed. The Summer Camp now only has limited places left so booking is now vital for the camps from Monday 30th to Friday 3rd August. In underage action the u13’s were in mid-week action while a number of the clubs u14’s were involved in Development squads last weekend. The u14 B’s were unlucky to go down to Miltown/ Castlemaine. Club members are reminded that membership is now due. These funds are vital for the running of the club so please re-new as soon as you can. Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 4,11,12 and 30 and the next jackpot will be e4,800. BALLYMAC NEWS: The Seniors will take on Ardfert at home this Friday night, July 13th, in Round 9 of the County League. In the Lotto there was no winner from the numbers drawn 3,17,21 and 28 with the next jackpot being e5,400. Coiste Na N’Og: The u10’s enjoyed their work-out last Sunday while all u12 team who attended the Jack Rahilly Memorial Blitz run by the Scartaglin GAA Club. The mixed boys and girls team defeated their hosts and Cordal and qualified for the semi-finals. Here they defeated Gneeveguilla to reach the final against Desmonds. It was the Castleisland who took the Jack Rahilly Cup while the Ballymac side put in a great effort all through the day. The club is delighted for all its members who were part of the Development Squads this week. The club is delighted with the season that the u14 Girls put in when winning Division 2 of the County League. They defeated Ballyduff in a very entertaining decider 3-09 to 2-07 after leading 0-08 to 1-03 at the break. The League’s Fixture’s Secretary Selina Looney presented the Shield to a delighted Ballymac captain Alyssa Leen. Community Games – St Brendan’s Community Games club enjoyed a well- deserved an end of year gettogether with pride-of-place going to the u16 Boys Basketball team who are the National Champions. The club also had a number of County Champions and athletes who did very well on the National stage.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER KERRY PITCH AND PUTT NEWS: LAST weekend saw Deerpark host the Munster U-16 Matchplay Championships which was played over a Round Robin format and included both a Championship and Shield competition. Two players from the Killarney club made it to the Championship Semi-Finals while another three contested the Plate Semi-Finals. Alex O’Callaghan contested the first Championship Semi-Final against eventual winner Shea Fennell of Parteen where despite being level after nine holes in the encounter Alex eventually lost out by 12&11. In the other Semi-Final club-mate Robbie Harnett lost out to 2016 winner Glenn Towler of St Annes in Cork but only after a great second round by Robbie saw him come back from a deficit of 5 down after 18 holes before only losing out by 2&1 in the finish. Fennell would go on to defeat Towler in the Final by 2&1. In the Plate meanwhile Cillian Courtney won an all Deerpark Semi-Final with club-mate Cathal Kelly by 7&6 with Joey McCarthy from the Killarney club losing out Parteen’s Patrick Mitchell by 10&9. In the Plate Final Cillian held off a late fightback from Mitchell to win out by 2&1. The Deerpark course held up well over the weekend in what were difficult conditions in advance with the heat and humidity of recent times. This weekend sees the National Gents Strokeplay Championships take place in Glenville, Dublin with plenty of Kerry interest in the three grades. On Saturday and Sunday the Intermediates and Juniors are in action in a ‘Shotgun Start’ with Tralee trio Padraig Hobbart, Roger Guthrie and Eamon Sheehy along with Deerpark duo Gearoid Cronin and James Fleming and Listowel’s Killian O’Gorman taking part in the Intermediate grade. There are four Kerry players in the Junior grade including Listowel trio Nicky Barry, John Carey and Cathal Dennehy and Tralee’s David Hobbert. Sunday’s Senior event sees seven Kerry competitors comprising Deerpark trio Damien Fleming, John McGrath and Jason O’Brien along with Tralee duo Jason O’Regan and Alan Hobbert as Castleisland’s James Dignan and Aidan O’Connor complete the Kerry line-up this weekend. HUGE NIGHT FOR KUH AT THE TRACK: On Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium is the annual monster benefit night for Kerry University Hospital with a top class card race card featuring a number of finals. The main one being the Kerry Group sponsored A2 525 yards stake. As well as top class racing we have face painting, bouncy castle music after racing and a best dressed lady competition sponsored by Sam McAuley. Gates open at 6.30 so
don’t be late! There will also be racing twice on Saturday with the SIS program starting in the afternoon at 2.12 and our evening meeting commences at 7.42. The track is now taking entries for the Rose of Tralee A4 confined 525 yards starting on July 27th and the Boylesports Derby Trial Stake to be run on Friday August 3rd. KERRY 15’S WIN THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SOCCER WEEKEND: Domestically the last trophies are being sorted but things on the National League front are right in the middle of their seasons. The 15’s had been playing well in the last few weeks but not getting the results they deserved. This changed last weekend with a great 2-1 win over Waterford at Mounthawk Park. It was a win that the 13 players on duty deserved and they did it the hard way going behind in the 24th minute. However they were ahead at the break when Cillian O;’Shea finished a Cian Brosnan free to the net and were ahead on the stroke of half time when Brosnan curled a beautiful free kick into the net – a goal worthy of winning any game. With the window for signing players for the underage League of Ireland teams now open the Kerry’s 15’s have signed Andy Rogers, Sean O’Connell and Cianan Conney as well as Eoin McGrath who played with Cobh Ramblers and in the Desmond League. These players are now available for the 15’s game away to Limerick this Saturday. The u17’s were unlucky to come away from Ferrycarrig Park in Wexford with just a point. They were ahead in the first half when Patrick Dowling got on the end of a free kick. They continued to lead until the last few minutes when the away side were awarded a penalty. The 17’s busy schedule continues as they played Cork City on Wednesday night in the Mark Farran Cup Round 2 and are at home to Cabinteely on Saturday in Mounthawk at 3pm. From a Tralee point of view the big local game is the Dominos Pizza u17 Cup final where the two big local sides clash. This is the last of the finals at 17’s and 18’s level and both The Park and Tralee Dynamos will want to finish the long season on a high. Dynamos in particular have been knocking in the goals in their run to the final but the Park are a very strong side and had a good run in all the big competitions this season. ON THE WATER: Tralee rower Danny Pierce was a member of the Trinity crew that were in action in the Henley Royal Regatta this week. The Dublin University crew defeated University of London B in the Temple Cup before going out to
Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com
the US Syracuse crew. This weekend the action is closer to home with the Irish Rowing Championships at the National Rowing Centre in Cork from Friday to Sunday with a number of Kerry crews set to take part. IN THE WATER: The latest swim in the Tralee Bay Swimming Club World Series Hugh Stuart set the fastest adjusted time and topped Group D. Brendan Culloty was the fastest from Group A, Annie Horgan in Group B and Padraig O’Connor from Group C. The Donal Walsh Memorial Swim set for this Friday night July 13th has been postponed and a new date will be announced. For those looking to swim in different waters the Ardgroom Swim is on Sunday August 5th. This is one of the most picturesque areas of the Kenmare /West Cork peninsula and is well known to rally competitors and fans as the Ardgroom stage is a classic. Registration is on in the café in Ardgroom from 12 to 1 and the swim starts at 2pm. KINGDOM CRICKETERS GO DOWN IN THE SUN: In perfect weather for cricket it was a tough weekend for Kerry sides. The 3rd went down in their Munster Minor Cup semi-final losing out to UCC at the Farm in Cork. The home side hit 303 for the loss of only 2 wickets and while Kerry battled hard they were all out for 253. In the Munster Premier Division Limerick 1st were too strong for Kerry 1st. The Limerick side put up a huge total of 398 for 6 and Kerry were all out for 194 from 33.2 overs. Cup Draws: County Kerry have been drawn at home to Galway in the Clear Currency National Cup quarter final. The game takes place this Sunday at 1pm at the Oyster Oval. Here’s hoping for two Kerry wins over Galway. On Saturday in the Munster Junior Cup semi-final County Kerry 2nds take on Middleton at the same venue. KERRY BOOK PLACE IN ATHLETICS LEAGUE FINAL: The Kerry Athletics teams secured their place in the National League final following the latest round in Athlone. The final takes place on August 19th in Tullamore. Tralee Harriers athletes were a vital part of the teams and will be again in the final. LOCAL DERBY OF A DIFFERENCE ON THE HARDWOOD: Traditionally the local derby in SuperLeague basketball would have been between Tralee and Killarney clubs. But for the new season it will be Garvey’s Tralee Warriors taking on newly promoted Keane’s Supervalu Killorglin in a game that will certainly whet the appetite of Friday 13th July 2018
Kerry basketball fans. Warriors will have the vastly experience Pat Price in the hot season when the season begins in September while Killorglin should be led by Igans Sijanus who might not have the experience of Price but is a coach who has certainly proved himself to be a huge talent especially last season. ON THE GREENS A the Castleisland Golf Club the Seniors competition was won by John Slattery with Cyril Quigley in 2nd and Willie Galvin in third. In the Mixed Scramble the winners were Breda O’Connell, Mary O’Sullivan, Paul Geaney and Mike McElligott with Margaret Kennedy, Julie Murphy, Tom Brennan and Eamonn Feeley in second. The Ladies Captain Day 18 Hole stableford was won by Brendan Keehan from Sean O’Connell and Paul Geaney. At the Tralee Golf Club the Captains Charity Day was won by Robert O’Brien, Don Nolan, David Nolan and Jerry O’Shea. Second were Derek Bulman, Ken West, Moss O’Connor and Daniel O’Connor with Antoinette Sayers, Tom O’Driscoll, Colm O’Connor and Padraig Sayers in third. The Nearest the Pin was won Pierce Wall with the longest drive going to Michael O’Rourke (Mallow GC). In the MC 10 sponsored by Supervalu the winner was Alan Kelly from Patrick O’Connell and Jack O’Driscoll. The 18+ Handicap was won by Bernard Costello and the Best Gross went to Graham while the 9 hole competition was won by John Gibbons. In the Ladies section in the Slattery Cup strokeplay competition the winner was Margaret Murphy with Norah Quinlan second. In the MC 7 competition Catherine McCarthy took the win from Emma Morrissey and Monica O’Neill 3rd. The Best Gross was won by Mags Hayes.
