Kerry students from schools Mercy Mounthawk and Castleisland Community College have had their projects shortlisted in the Young Social Innovators of the Year Programme and Awards in 2016 A record breaking 454 projects and 6,618 students have entered the Awards in 2016. Of these, 61 youth led social innovation projects have been shortlisted from 51 schools and youth organisations throughout Ireland. These will present to YSI Panels and compete for the title Young Social Innovators of the Year 2016 and other prestigious awards at the YSI Annual on Tuesday May 10th in the Citywest Hotel, Conference and Event Centre, Dublin. The Young Social Innovators of the Year 2016 Awards and Showcase, which is supported by Ulster Bank, will bring together 5,000 young innovators who are actively working to bring about positive social change in Ireland. It is the biggest celebration of social innovation in Ireland and one of the largest youth events in the country. Young Social Innovators (YSI) challenges young people to work within their communities to identify areas of social need and to come up with and implement solutions. The Showcase gives them the opportunity to exhibit their ideas and innovations through presentations, posters and exhibition stands. There is a vast amount of indoor and outdoor educational, social and interactive activities and events for the students to get involved in over the course of the day. Speaking about the Young Social Innovators 2016 Awards and Showcase event, Rachel Collier, Co-Founder & CEO, Young Social Innovators (YSI) said, “This is a powerful celebration and recognition of youth led innovation in Ireland. These young innovators demonstrate that they can and do play a major part in tackling difficult social issues and in bringing about positive change to communities in Ireland and abroad. As an organisation, YSI integrates innovative and entrepreneurial concepts and skills right into the heart of education in Ireland by providing educator training and excellent innovation programmes for young people. 10% of Irish teenagers are now involved in innovation and entrepreneurial learning through YSI each year. We want to make this available for every teenager.” Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066 7122982 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

GRIFFIN VOTES TOP GEAR VISIT A HUGE SUCCESS
KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, says that the Top Gear visit to Kerry appears to have been an enormous success and anticipates a huge boost to Kerry tourism when the programme airs in the coming weeks. Top Gear presenters Chris Evans and Matt Le Blanc spent the weekend in Kerry with their crew filming for the new series of the show, which has the highest viewership in the world. Deputy Griffin was delighted to finally learn that Top Gear was coming to Kerry, having been in contact with the BBC since 2014 inviting Top Gear to the Wild Atlantic Way. Deputy Griffin subsequently raised the matter in the Dáil and with the tourism agencies. Deputy Griffin met with Chris Evans during filming in Gallarus on Saturday. He said: “I was glad to have the opportunity to welcome Chris Evans and his team to Kerry and as the local TD, I thanked them on behalf of the people of Kerry for choosing our county to feature on Top Gear. “I explained to Chris the reason why I had been pursuing the Top Gear visit and emphasised to him the importance of tourism for employment in Kerry in the context of the economic challenges facing the county and the difficult times experienced in recent years. “He was hugely impressed with the landscape and the warm welcome that the people of Kerry extended and was very happy with the fine weather. “Chris Evans was a huge hit with everyone who met him and was most generous with his time, posing for photographs with everyone and paying particular attention to the children who showed up to greet Top Gear. He went out of his way to create a great sense of occasion and his professionalism was clear to see. “I look forward to seeing the finished product air in the coming weeks, and hope that this will lead to increased bookings from the UK and beyond, as people chose Kerry and Ireland for their holidays. “In the mean-time, in what is a double win for Kerry following the Top Gear visit, it is brilliant to learn that Chris Evans is now also giving massive exposure to the county through his daily national radio show in the UK, which has 9 million listeners. This level of exposure could not be bought and his audible enthusiasm and excitement about his experience in Kerry is a testament not only to the beauty of the county, but to the people of Kerry, who did the county and country proud at the weekend by extending the warmest welcome imaginable to our visitors, a quality that comes naturally to our people.”

TECHNOLOGY CORNER Billy O Meara (HRI Services)
Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology Question:
Should I pay for antivirus or are the free ones good enough?
Being a home user, free antivirus is an attractive option. Especially with so many good ones. But do you actually get better protection if you pay for it. If you just want antivirus then the free ones are good enough. This will give you basic protection. In my opinion I would rather use a paid product because it has more features than the free ones. For example you will have a better firewall protection this is important if you are doing financial transactions on your device. They now come with Identity protection which is very important. Ultimately, it comes down to your needs and your budget. If the extra features seem worth it, then don’t hesitate to get one. It won’t be money wasted. Question:
I have heard the term “Phishing”... what is it?
Phishing is a word which is used when someone tries to induce an individual to reveal personal information so they can access your credit card information and bank details for financial gain. Here are a few tips on how to avoid been caught. 1. When you visit a site that requires you to enter credit card details make sure on the address bar it reads https not http. 2. It should also have a closed lock icon, but if you are still not sure use a third party like PayPal. 3. Nobody from Microsoft or any other company will phone you and tell you that there is a problem with your computer, just hang up do not give them access to your computer. 4. Never Go to Your Banks Website by Clicking on Links Included in Emails. 5 .Also it never hurts to check your bank accounts periodically to be aware of any irregularities in your online transactions.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... EXCITING WEEKEND AHEAD AS TASTE OF TRALEE FOOD FAIR RETURNS TO MANOR WEST Manor West is delighted to host another Taste of Tralee Food Fair this weekend. After 2 extremely successful Food Fair weekends in the shopping centre over the Christmas period, the highly anticipated wait for our first Food Fair of the year is nearly over. The event, in association with Taste Kerry is a fantastic opportunity for some of our local Kerry Artisan food producers to showcase their wide range of wonderful products. Once again there will be a vast range of various food stands in the centre over the weekend with their fantastic displays of artisan food products. Come along & chat to the people who make the food & taste something new while you are out doing your shopping. From hot to cold, sweet or savory, there is always something to please everybody’s taste buds. Derek Rusk, shopping centre manager stated that “Following on from the massive success of the Taste of Tralee Food Fairs here in recent years we are delighted to welcome back the Food Fair to Manor West this weekend. As the 2 Christmas Food Fairs were the most successful to date, we are confident that this weekend will continue that trend as the event is becoming increasingly more popular with our customers. The event always creates a fantastic buzz within the shopping centre as customers avail of the opportunity to taste the wide array of products on display as the fantastic aroma of the various food stands fills the main shopping mall. This year will mark the fifth year of Manor West’s support of Taste Kerry in its role in supporting & promoting the county’s home-grown food producers. By hosting events such as this here in Manor West, the food producers have the opportunity to engage with a large number of customers & help them to further market their business & various products.” As always our favorite Disney pals from Kingdom Party Pals, such as Ana & Elsa and Mickey & Minnie Mouse will be here both days from 12-5pm to keep all the young ones entertained. There is a real family feeling about the Food Fairs here in Manor West so make sure to call along with the young ones & take a few pictures while tasting some of the tempting treats on display at the food stalls. The event will take place from 12 noon to 6pm this Saturday 23th and Sunday 24th April in the shopping mall in Manor West Retail Park with many more events and activities planned to take place in over the next few months. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... KERRY AIRPORT SECURES OVER €66,000 IN FUNDING FROM REGIONAL FUND
Fine Gael TD for Kerry, Brendan Griffin, has said that the announcement today by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD that €66,431 has been allocated to Kerry Airport is very good news for tourism and local business. “Funding of €66,431 has been allocated to Kerry Airport. This is part of a €1.2 million regional airport fund set to benefit Donegal, Ireland West and Waterford, as well as Kerry Airport. “The funding of €66,431 will be used to upgrade airside security doors, to purchase an emergency security vehicle and for 12 fireman kits. This funding has been specifically allocated to support safety and security investments at the airport that have already been approved by the Department of Transport. “Supporting regional airports has been a priority for Fine Gael as Kerry Airport and others play a vital role in ensuring connectivity for the regions. These initial grants will enable Kerry Airport to proceed with important works to ensure that safety and security standards are maintained and enhanced.”
TOUR DE MUNSTER TIME! GIMME YOUR MONEY!
Pictured is Darragh Grayson from Tralee with cyclists John O’ Brien, Tralee and Aoife O’ Connell, Abbeydorney for the official Tour de Munster charity partnership announcement event at Ballyseedy Home & Garden Centre, Tralee on Saturday 16th April 2016. Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) was once again named as the beneficiary of this year’s Tour de Munster cycle . Tour de Munster is an annual four day charity cycle which sees amateur cyclists cycling over 600km around Munster. This is the 7th successive year that the national charity has been the beneficiary of popular charity cycle, which this year takes place from Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th of August. The 2015 cycle raised €260,000 for the charity, bringing the total raised for the Munster Branches of DSI to €1.6 million. Over the partnership’s history, Tour de Munster has developed close ties and formed lasting friendships with DSI, with many of the charity’s parents and friends participating in the cycle year after year. The aim this year is to raise a further €250,000 for DSI. Entering its 16th year, Tour de Munster is proud to have raised over €2 million for the various beneficiaries since its inception. Tour de Munster 2016 will see approximately 100 to 120 amateur cyclists travel across all six counties in Munster in just four days in early August, supported by friends, family and the scores of DSI volunteers who will fundraise throughout the route. Each cyclist will cover their own expenses so all funds raised go directly to DSI. Pic: Pauline Dennigan. For more info see www.tourdemunster.com
MARTIN FERRIS TD AT BANNA STRAND FOR 1916 STATE COMMEMORATION
Speaking from Banna Strand today, Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris said he was glad to be present at the State Commemoration of patriots Roger Casement, Robert Monteith and Daniel Bailey who attempted to land 20,000 rifles there on Good Friday1916. The Kerry TD said: “The great crowd who attended is an indication of the great pride Kerry people have for our republican past. “There was real emotion felt on Banna Strand today when Casement’s speech was re-enacted on the spot. “It is right and fitting that President Higgins should have come here to commemorate Casement and his comrades and I am glad to have been present for the ceremonies.” 18

Bexblah Beauty
This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens Hello my beautiful friends. Today I’m going to be talking all about hair extensions. I just did a snapchat tutorial on how I wash mine so if you’re interested in that follow me on snapchat @bexblah. Also Bellami have 10% off all the extensions for the next few days so if you’re in the market for them now is the time! Bellami Hair is an American based hair extension online store. I first heard about Bellami through one of my absolute favourite YouTubers, Carli Bybel. In summer 2013, I cut my hair up short due to damage from box dyes, don’t ever do it, do not box dye your hair. It’s not worth it in the end when you’ll have to part with your long locks! So in October of 2013 I was sick of having short hair and after much research I decided to get 20” Bambina extensions, which I’ve told you all about before so I won’t go into too much detail about them. After being so impressed with my extensions and Bellami’s customer service the first time, when I decided to go blonde last year I knew I just had to get the Bellami extensions when my hair was blonde enough. I got the Magnifica 24 inch 240g ones in ‘Ash Blonde’. Then when I went back brown I dyed those extensions with a box dye myself and got about a year out of them, because of dying them they didn’t last as long as before.
The Magnifica 24 inch extensions in ‘Ash Blonde’ Then in October 2015 I got another set, the Magnifica again but in the shade ‘Mochachino Brown’. And I still have them, I love Bellami Hair, it is so soft and luxurious and blends so well with my own hair.
Magnifica 24 inch extensions in the shade ‘Mochachino Brown’ Here are a list of the most popular questions I have gotten.
WHERE DID YOU GET THE EXTENSIONS? Www.Bellamihair.com WHAT EXTENSIONS DID YOU GET? I got the Magnifica 24 inch 240g extensions in the shade ‘Mochachino Brown’ WERE THEY EXPENSIVE? My particular ones were €200 euro but the Bellami extensions range from €85 upwards. It all depends on what thickness and length you want! HOW LONG DO THEY TAKE TO ARRIVE? Both times I’ve got the extensions they have taken 10 business days (Mon-Fri) to arrive. DO I HAVE TO PAY CUSTOMS? Nope, the only delivery charge you’ll have to pay is 5 dollars which is €3.92. CAN I CURL/STRAIGHTEN/WASH MY EXTENSIONS? Yes, Bellami Extensions can be straightened washed and curled. Just be sure to use heat protectant and sulphate free shampoo & conditioner. HOW OFTEN DO I WASH MY EXTENSIONS? Only wash your extensions when they absolutely need it. There is no need to wash the extensions as much as your own hair. I washed my current set for the first time today and I’ve had them 7 months! HOW DO I KNOW WHAT COLOUR TO GET? You can send a picture of your hair in natural lighting to info@ bellamihair.com and they will tell you which shade would suit. WHAT IF THE EXTENSIONS ARE THE WRONG COLOUR? When you get the extensions, there is one clip in piece in a separate sample section. You can open this and check does the sample piece match your hair, if not you can send them back no problem. JUST DON’T OPEN THE MAIN PACKAGING UNTIL YOU’RE SURE THE COLOUR SUITS! CAN I DYE MY EXTENSIONS? Yes, Bellami hair can be dyed, just not bleached/highlighted. So that’s it Ladies, I hope you all enjoyed this little piece. It was highly requested and I got sooooo many questions on Facebook! If you do order the extensions, I’d love if you could let me know via Facebook or email Bexblahbeauty@ gmail.com . Stay Gorge,
Bexblah. Attention BexBlah Readers!

Bexblah Fitness! HELLO MY STRONG FRIENDS! HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK. THIS WEEK I’LL BE TALKING ABOUT ABS.
TIPS FOR FLAT ABS So many people want that washboard flat stomach. The frustrating reality is that the midsection is one of the trickiest areas to tone. That’s why even people dedicated to regular exercise often can’t iron out their abs quickly, it takes time. Think Whole-Body Exercise When it comes to abdominal strength, you shouldn’t train the body in isolation. People have this misconception that the best way to strengthen the abs is to get on the floor and do a thousand crunches, If we could spot reduce, our jaws would be hollow, we probably work the jaw muscle in talking and eating more than any other, and none of us have hollow jaws. You have to see the abs as a 360-degree core, you want to develop strength and flexibility around that core. Crunches are fine, at first, but relatively quickly, you’ll have to progress to something else to get that area worked. The best exercises for toning your abs are actually ones like squats and deadlifts as they target the entire body. Examine Your Diet and Digestion If you have abdominal fat you can have great ab strength and great posture, but you won’t have a flat abdominal or a six-pack. You have to change your diet and increase your energy output. In other words, eat the right foods and move more. You need to burn off more calories than you take in to reduce body fat. Unfortunately for many people, the abdominals are a place where fat tends to accumulate. If you have a high sugar and salt diet, you will more than likely hold fat around your midsection. Don’t eliminate Carbs. So many people, especially females, think any form of carbs are the devil. WRONG. If carbs are too low for too long of a time, your energy levels will drop, cravings will become extremely intense, and your resting metabolic rate will plummet which means you will burn LESS calories. You can eat carbs, they’re very important for energy. Just be sure they aren’t high in salt or sugar! Take Things Slow There are no fast fixes. Even the promised quick fixes end up being temporary. It’s a goal. You have to plan on a slow and steady progression. Most people will experience set backs, roadblocks, and utter frustration along the way. Rewards come with time and consistency. Don’t drink your carlories. Before you do a single tummy crunch, think about what you’re putting into your body. Most drinks like, coke, some coffees, even juices contain around 200 calories/ Those are EMPTY calories, that have little to no nutritional value. So skip the high sugar and calorie dense drinks in favour of better hydration, like mixed fruit juice with no sugar added, or water with a squeeze of lemon. Don’t skip on Cardio By getting good, heart-thumping cardio session a few times a week, you’ll tone your abs (along with everything else) and be heart-healthy and fit! Good examples of cardio are running, interval sprints, uphill walking, jogging, spinning, the cross trainer, and swimming.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2016
A Light Fish Dish... or two!
Well the weather has finally started to improve and Spring is finally here so with it we look at lighter dishes . This week , I’ve picked some lovely fish dishes , remember you can check out lots of dishes at www.traleeculinarygangster.wordpress.com
GRILLED HALIBUT
with Smashed baby potatoes and Tomato Butter
HERB-BROILED FISH
I have halibut here ,a meaty fish but you can have cod or hake in its place.
I’m using seabass here but any flat fish will do
with Lemon Aioli
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • •
1/2 cup chopped parsley 1/4 cup chopped tarragon, plus 1/4 cup whole leaves Finely grated zest of 1 lemon Four 6- to 7-ounce skinless halibut fillets 2 pounds baby potatoes Salt 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling 4 garlic cloves, thinly sliced 2 medium shallots, thinly sliced Freshly ground pepper 6 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 pint cherry tomatoes
METHOD
1. 2. 3.
4.
5.
In a medium bowl, toss the parsley with the chopped tarragon and lemon zest. Rub the herbs all over the halibut; cover and refrigerate for 2 hours. In a large saucepan, cover the potatoes with water and bring to a boil. Salt generously and simmer over moderately high heat until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and let cool to room temperature. Light a grill. In a large nonstick pan, heat the 1/4 cup of olive oil. Add the garlic and shallots and cook over moderately high heat until golden, about 2 minutes. Add the potatoes and cook over low heat, smashing them gently with a spatula, until they start to break apart. Continue cooking, stirring a few times, until the potatoes are browned and crisp, about 5 minutes total. Season with salt and pepper. In a medium pan, melt the butter. Add the whole tarragon leaves and cook over moderate heat until the tarragon is fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes burst and the butter is browned, about 7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Drizzle the halibut with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill the fillets over moderately high heat until nicely charred and just cooked, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer the fish to plates and spoon the tomato butter on top. Serve immediately with the smashed potatoes
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • •
1 lemon, very thinly sliced 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1/4 cup mayonnaise Pinch of cayenne pepper Salt and freshly ground pepper 4 thyme sprigs Four 6-ounce sea bass fillets, about 1 inch thick 12 small bay leaves
METHOD 1.
2.
Preheat the grill. Arrange the lemon slices in a small roasting pan and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of the oil. grill 8 inches from the heat until lightly browned. Finely chop 2 of the lemon slices, removing any pits. Transfer the minced lemon to a small bowl; stir in the mayonnaise and cayenne and season the aioli with salt and pepper. Scatter the thyme sprigs over the lemon slices in the pan. Make three 1/2-inch-deep slashes in the skin of each sea bass fillet and slip a bay leaf into each slit. Place the fish skin side up in the roasting pan and drizzle with the remaining oil; season with salt and pepper. grill for 10 to 12 minutes, until the skin is browned and crisp and the fish is cooked through. Transfer the fish and lemons to plates; discard the thyme sprigs and bay leaves. Pour any accumulated juices into the aioli, stir well and serve with the fish.

REGULAR COLUMNS
1916 EVENTS THIS WEEKEND IN TRALEE WITH COISTE COMÓRADH TRÁ LÍ,
Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: JOBPATH Question I’ve been invited to take part in the JobPath programme. What can I expect from the programme? Can I keep my social welfare payment? Answer JobPath is a new employment activation programme that is intended to help jobseekers find and retain full-time employment. The Department of Social Protection selects clients for JobPath on a random basis. You cannot apply to go on JobPath. Supports from JobPath are aimed at people who are long-term unemployed and people who are newly unemployed but who may need intensive support to find work.
Coiste Comóradh Trá Lí, a neutral body, hope for a great turn out this weekend for 1916 commemorative events in the town. On Saturday, 23rd April, the Square will be awash with old time activities including stalls, machinery, vehicles, irish music and dancing etc. Also featured will be a sketch by Na Gaeil Scór na nÓg competitors. Items include Parnell’s Hurling Club,Dr. Bridget O Brien for a free blood pressure check, Owen O Shea, Co author of newly published book on Kerry in 1916 and many more sights and sounds from the old fair. On Sunday 24th April will see a grand parade featuring units of people marching as Irish Volunteers, Cumann na mBan and Fianna. A number of bands will also attend. Several relatives of those who died from at home and abroad have contacted the organising committee indicating their intention to attend. The parade will assemble at the Rink, Basin Road at 12.45pm on the Sunday where a bugler will sound the assembly as happened outside Liberty Hall in 1916. After a brief ceremony, the parade will then March to the O Rahilly Villas on Strand Street and then thence to the Cahill Memorial in Cahills Park. After wreath laying ceremonies it will then proceed to Páirc an Phiarsaigh. Here the attendents will be addressed, wreaths will be laid at the Pearse monument. The last post will be sounded, and the ceremonies will conclude with the singing of Amhrán na Bhfiann. Speakers at Páirc an Phiarsaigh will be Lily Tagney and Owen O Shea. This is a neutral event and the general public are asked to march in the parade and participate in events to commemorate those who died in 1916. Th committee especially invites the relatives of those who participated in the events of 1916 and in the fight for independence to march in the Sunday parade. This is a unique effort by the committee to offer an opportunity to all persuasions to STEP TOGETHER!! As this is a voluntary effort. Le meas, Tommy Collins Phone : 087 2653977 26

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A GUY IS TIED TO THE MAST OF A PIRATE SHIP-
The captain is going to make him walk the plank. ‘Any last words?’ Asks the captain. ‘No, but I have a few questions’ replies the captured sailor. ‘Very well’ says the pirate ‘ask away.’ “Well, I was wondering how you ended up with a peg leg’ says the sailor. “I got thrown overboard, and a shark took me leg’ says the pirate. ‘Well what about your arm? How did you end up with the hook?’ Says the sailor. ‘I went to block a slash from an enemy cutlass, and lost me arm’ replies the pirate. ‘Well what about your eye? Why do you now wear a patch?’ Ask the sailor. ‘I was shouting orders to the crow’s nest one day, and a bird shit in me eye’ says the pirate “How did birdshit take out your eye?’ Ask the sailor. “Aye, it was me first day with the hook’ said the pirate.
KID VS BARBER
A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer. ‘This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it you.’ The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks, ‘Which do you want, son?’ The boy takes the quarters and leaves. ‘What did I tell you?’ said the barber. ‘That kid never learns!’ Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store. ‘Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?’ The boy licked his cone and replied, ‘Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!’

TORQUING CARS! TESLA RECALLS 2,700 MODEL X CARS
Tesla has issued a voluntary recall on 2,700 Model X SUVs because a defective hinge in the rearmost of the three rows of seats could cause them to collapse under heavy impact such as a collision. The recall concerns all Model X cars built before March 26 and Tesla said that it decided to issue the recall as a precautionary measure after the fault came to light during a standard pre-delivery inspection for a European-spec car. A spokesman for Tesla Motors UK said that no cars in the UK are affected. The part at fault is the reclining mechanism of the rear seat that permits it to fold forward. No injuries have been reported. In an email to customers on Monday, Tesla said that the third row of seats in the Model X would be replaced. The email says that owners will be contacted by their local service centre to get the car in to replace the seatbacks. The procedure takes a couple of hours, according to the spokesman.
TATA-BACKED JAGUAR LAND ROVER CLOSE TO BUYING SILVERSTONE AS TALKS MOVE UP A GEAR
Jaguar Land Rover’s ambitious plan to buy Silverstone has moved a step closer after the racetrack’s owners signalled their backing for a potential deal. The British Racing Drivers Club, which owns the Northamptonshire track, has voted to continue negotiations with the car maker after a board meeting on Thursday night. In what was described by sources at the BRDC as a “close” vote, members backed further talks with JLR, which is owned by Indian conglomerate Tata. The Coventry-based car maker wants to use Silverstone as venue to showcase its rapidly expanding range of vehicles. The racetrack could also be developed as a leisure venue centred around motor racing with facilities such as a hotel. Staff could also be relocated from JLR’s Midlands base to the Northamptonshire site. Buying Silverstone is just the latest part of an ambitious expansion of JLR since Tata bought it from Ford for £1.5bn in 2008 as the car industry was in crisis in the wake of the global financial crash. More than £11bn has been invested in the car maker since then, including new facilities and models, and JLR has become the UK’s biggest automotive company as a result of the remarkable turnaround. A JLR spokesman said: “Jaguar Land Rover regularly evaluates opportunities to support its longterm and sustainable growth in the UK. As part of this, we are exploring potential options at Silverstone with the BRDC, but it is too soon to share details at this stage. “All discussions remain confidential.” Silverstone is currently owned by the British Racing Driver’s Club, which has been responsible for developing the track into one of the world’s most high-profile tracks for more than 50 years.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT Q: I have not driven for two years, but am now looking to buy a car. I previously drove a BMW and a Lexus, but do not want to spend that sort of money. What do you think of the SsangYong Korando? CB A: The Korando is designed to be a budget alternative to the Nissan Qashqai, but in this case you get what you pay for. It’s noisy, rides poorly, and feels cheap inside. If you can’t stretch to the Qashqai, the Dacia Duster is even cheaper than the Korando and a similar sort of car. HJ

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR HOW ABOUT A KERRY DOUBLE OVER DUBLIN OPPOSITION? When you are planning any event you need that bit of luck and a sporting event is no different. When the fixtures for the Allianz Football League were announced I don’t think many would have bet on a Kerry / Dublin decider. The powers that be certainly wished for it as the clash of the two big powers will certainly put ‘bums on seats’. This game will draw a huge crowd with many being able to stay on for the pageant that is being put on to commemorate the Rising after the final. It is also a double header with Tyrone taking on Cavan in the Division 2 final with Tyrone being expected to win this one. Back to the main course and the bookies have Dublin as favourites to win with Jim Gavin’s side priced at 4/6 while Kerry are 6/4. Kerry’s odds with a two pint spread are 8/11 to lift the Irish National Insurance Cup. Dublin has of course defeated Kerry in the League stages but that won’t really have a bearing on Sunday. Nor will thoughts of the later stages of the Championship where the two sides will b hoping to meet in September. So both sides will go out on Sunday to win in what should be an open game of football. From a manager’s point of view both will be able to use the result come Sam Maguire time. Whoever wins will say “we have beaten them once, we can do it again” while the management of the side that loses will use the defeat as motivation. Eamonn Fitzmaurice will have as number of big calls as he will have close to a full squad available to him. Bar a few long term injuries who are on the way back it looks like he will the majority of his players available for selection. So those looking on will be very interested to see what midfield pairing Kerry will go with? Where will the rejuvenated Star play and of course what role will the Gooch be asked to play. Dublin are on a great run but are probably not as far ahead of the rest as they were and a Kerry win would certainly not be a shock. It will make for a great day out for all the Kerry fans travelling. SHAMROCK ROVERS HEAD TO THE KDL: For those not going to Croke Park then the KDL is the place to be with Shamrock Rovers u17’s coming to take on Kerry. Rovers are historically the biggest club in the country and many will always look for their results in the Airtircity League of Ireland. As expected the u17’s are one of the top teams in the Division having had wins over Mervue, Wexford Youths and Cobh. From a Kerry point of view only a late late goal prevented them from picking up their first point in their four games when they went down 2-1 away to Wexford Youths. Anyone following the Kerry u17’s start to life in the big time cant but be impressed with their improvement since they lost 6-0 to Cork City in their opening game. They ran UCD close before going down 3-1 and in Ferrycarrig Park Kerry were within 2 minutes of taking home a point after Kevin Williams equalised the Wexford opener.

Following the Rovers game which will be a very tough task the Kerry u17’s will travel away twice to Mervue United in Galway and Cabinteely FC in Dublin in games they will certainly target getting points from. They then play at home to Cobh Ramblers on May 22nd before going away to Waterford on Saturday May 28th before the League takes a break for the Euro’s. So wouldn’t it be the dream to have a Kerry double over our Dublin friends come Sunday evening! IMPERIALS TAKE SILVER AFTER LONG JOURNEY:
Tralee Imperials u14 Girls who reached the All Ireland Basketball Final. Tralee Imperials under 14 girls finished off their season with a long trip to Antrim for the All Ireland finals last weekend and came home with silver medals narrowly losing the final. They played two group games on Saturday, our first game against Kiltimagh Giants. The girls started brilliantly and we led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter, we kept the pressure on in the second quarter and led 21-0 at halftime. We drew the third quarter 4-4 and won the fourth quarter 9-6 to leave the final score 34-10. This was a fantastic defensive display while offensively Imperials had eight girls on the score sheet. Game two saw the girls taking on Letterkenny Blaze and leading 18-6 at the break and went on to win 35-17 by the final whistle with eight players again on the score sheet. This put Imperials into Sunday’s semi-finals where they took on Tullamore. After a tight first quarter the Tralee girls opened up a second quarter lead and never looked back. In the end they had an 8 point victory 25-17 to set up a final appearance for the second year in a row. St Colm’s from Limerick were their opponents in the final and this was a cracker in which the lead changed 13 times. The sides were tied 12-12 at the break and while the Limerick side went ahead in the second half to take title 25-19 the Imperials girls fought to the end and were a credit to their club and county. This was the second year in a row that the girls took the silver medals. There was delight in the squad when Rachel Kilgallen was named MVP of the Tournament. Coaches Martin and Martha paid tribute to the girls for all their hard work during the season and reaching an All-Ireland final, even if they came up just short, was a

great reward for their efforts. The Imperials squad was Rebecca Conway, Rachel Killgallen, Mary O’Connell, Aoife Dillane, Abi Casey, Alison Guerin, Sophie Lowham, Sarah Healy, Grainne Carmody, Lara Flynn, Ciara Rath, Emily O’Donoghue, Mimi King. NEW DATE ANNOUNCED FOR BOYLESPORTS RACE OF CHAMPIONS &KERRY GAA NIGHT: The Kingdom Greyhound Stadium,Tralee, announced today that their feature race “The BoyleSports Race of Champions” has moved to the new date of Friday 27th May. This night traditionally features a fundraising night by The Kerry GAA County Board, with all monies raised going to the Kerry County GAA Training Fund. The date-change was requested in order to ensure that owners/trainers had the opportunity to include the event in their summer schedule, in advance of the Irish Greyhound Laurels in Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium. Declan Dowling, Sales & Operations Manager of the popular venue does not believe the change of date will affect the promise of exciting racing and the anticipation of the crowning of a new “BoyleSports Race of Champions” title holder. “With a prize-fund of €24,500 this event has now become a fixture on many trainers’ annual calendars. I anticipate another fantastic event both for greyhound racing & fundraising as we will co-host the night with The Kerry County Board”. Patrick O Sullivan, Chairman of Kerry GAA said that he welcomed the 9th year of the event. “Clubs and the supporters have made this a night to remember in the past and I look forward to everybody having a very successful and enjoyable occasion on the May 27th.” STAYING AT THE TRACK: On Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the 8 second round heats of the Lee Strand 550. Saturday night sees a monster fundraiser for Blennerville School with a 12 race programme together with lots of off track entertainment and music after racing. Starting on Saturday April 23rd it’s the Universal Dream@Stud A7 525 yards. KERRY SOCCER CLUBS URGED TO ENTER AVIVA CLUB OF THE YEAR: Junior football clubs across Kerry are being urged to submit themselves for this year’s Aviva Club of the Year Award. Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill launched the search for Ireland’s top club for 2016 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The competition is open to all football clubs across the country. Eight clubs will be shortlisted for the award, two from each category. Each will receive €1,500 and the overall winner of the Aviva Club of the Year will be given €5,000 for their club. The Aviva Club of the Year is now in its 11th year and is open to any club across the country to enter free of charge online. Overall, in excess of €160,000 has been awarded to clubs country wide in recognition of their achievements

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES on and off the pitch. Clubs can enter in one or more of the four categories; Community, Coach Education, Club Development and Participation. The overall winning club will receive an additional top prize of €5,000 as well as the prestigious Aviva Club of the Year Trophy. Martin O’Neill, Republic of Ireland Manager, said; “The Club of the Year award is extremely important to clubs all over the country and to the communities around these clubs. I’ve been at the last few Aviva Club of the Year awards and you can see what it means to them all. If you take the current Ireland squad, a third of those have come from Irish clubs and we need to nurture that. Look at the night Shane (Long) scored against Germany, I’m sure we’d all have loved to have been part of Shane’s club TwoMile Borris in Tipperary that night. So I want all clubs in Ireland, big or small, to get involved in this year’s award.” PARNELLS NEWS:
Well done to the Parnells Quiz team who came 3rd in the county final of Scor, which was testament to those involved and mentors Ger Reidy. Race Night a Success: The club thanks all those who supported the Race Night in the Rose Hotel. The monies raised will be put to good use within the club. U14’s Win: The under 14’s enjoyed double success this week with wins over St Pat’s East Kerry and Kilmoyley. Parnells going back to 1916: Parnells members have been invited to take part in the 1916 Fair Day which takes place in the Square Tralee this Saturday April 23rd from 2pm. Volunteers who might have an hour or two to spare are asked to help. The event will have something for all the family and the club will have the portable goals on hand with some of the players also demonstrating the skills of hurling and camogie. Camogie: The u14’s put in a goreat effort in Felie B before going down to Killarney in Caherslee. Four of the u12’s played in the u12 B’s mixed team in their away victory over St Pat’s East Kerry. It was a great thrill for the players to have played in the Fitzgerald Stadium. Both sides put in a great display and in the end Parnells won 5-3 to 4-5. U16’s: The u16’s went down narrowly to Crotta by 2 points in the County u16 Hurling League Division 1. The team was missing a few players and hopefully all will be back in training in the coming weeks. ST PAT’S NOTES: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 2,5,10,14 and the next jackpot will be e5,700 with the draw on Sunday night in Skelper Quane’s Bar. Dingle Way Challenge: The Dingle Way Challenge will take place on Sunday June 5th
and entries are now open to those who want to tackle the 45km or 57 km challenge. Juveniles: The u8’s and u10’s enjoyed their games against Annascaul and Castlegregory. The coaches have been delighted with the effort shown by all the players. The continuous improvement of their skills after each outing is great to see and if they continue to practice their skills the future is looking bright for this group of young St Pats footballers. The U12’s played at home against Austin Stacks (B) last Sunday and showed great improvements. Their next match is away to Laune Rangers (B) on Sunday 24th April at 6pm. The under 14’s has a big win away to Asdee/ Ballylongford in the County League. Seniors: The St Pat’s Seniors were 3-11 to 2-05 winners over Duagh in the Junior Club Football Championship. They led from the start and were never in danger. Their next game is at home to Glenbeigh/Glencar in the Junior Premier Club Championship Round 1 with throw in at 6.30pm. Singing to Success: The clubs Ballad Group are County Champions after winning Scorn a bPaisti in Folimore last Sunday. Coached by Mary O’Sullivan the group made up of Tomas O’Sullivan, Grace O’ Brien, Judith Waugh, Siobhan O’Sullivan & Danny Greaney thrilled their fans with their performance. CAMOGIE NEWS: The Kerry girls put up a good performance against Cork in the Munster semi-final but as Cork PRO reports Shirley Moloney reports the good start The Rebels gave them the advantage. Cork were unerring from frees and Kerry needed points from Ann Marie Leen and Jackie Horgan tro keep them in touch and when Kerry struck for a goal from Laura Collins it was only 1-06 to 1-02 to Cork. Patrice Diggin added a point to leave it 1-06 to 1-03 at the break. A few points from Cork in the second half gave Cork the lead and they held on to win 1-11 to 1-07 after strong pressure put on by the Kerry ladies. In the All Ireland Minor C Championship semifinal Armagh were too strong for Kerry while in the Limnerick u16 League it ended Causeway 3-2 to Templeglantine/Knockaderry’s 5-07. Causeway play Granagh / Ballingarry in the same competition this week and Cillard take on Ballyagran. Causeway take on Ballybrown in the Limerick League semi-final this Sunday at 3.30pm Congratulations to Sarah Leahy from Causeway who has been appointed Munster Council PRO.
county final quiz team who put in a very good performance in the County final. The club congratulates Tralee Parnells who were second, missing out by one question despite answering 24 out of 30. Well done to St Pat’s Blennerville on wining the Ballad Group. KERINS O’RAHILLY NOTES: In the Club Championship the seniors went down by the narrowest margin of 1 point against the Legion 0-08 to 0-09. As the final result shows there was nothing between the sides all through the game and the Killarney side led by 1 point at the break 0-05 to 0-04. Rahilly’s were level mid-way through the second half but then lost Jack Savage to a second yellow card. The Legion led by two into the last minute but a David Moran 45 saw the minimum between the sides but sadly for the Tralee side they could not find an equaliser. The next game in the competition will be the Relegation Play Off agasint Milltown/ Castlemaine on May 1st at 2.30pm. Rahillys wish Andrew Thompson a speedy recovery after he came off injured in the game and also to Con Barrett who will have surgery this week. Training for all the underage sides continues at the normal Saturday morning times while the girls and Junior Ladies also train at the usual times. The Junior Ladies went down to Currow in their game this week. The u16 girls went down to Abbeydorney but then defeated Duagh. Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 3,7,13 and 26 and the next jackpot will be e2,300. ON THE GREENS: Tralee: In the MC4 Grand Hotel sponsored competition Martin Mitchell was the winner on 39 points. He just got the better of Declan Walsh and Darren P O’Sullivan who both finished on the same mark. Gearoid Kilgallen, Hugh O’Callaghan and Hugh O’Farrell rounded out the top 6. The Best Gross was won by Graham Spring with the 18+ handicap section went to Tommy Walsh. The 12 Hole Singles was won by Paudie Casey on 26 points with Richie Barry in second, Sean O’Connor third and Richard Barrett 4th. The Ladies also had a competition, the MC 2 Grand Hotel which was won by Vera Tierney on 36 points followed by Mary O’Donnell and Laura Rafferty. Mary Scully won the Best Gross. STACKS JUVENILE NOTES: The u6’s to the u10’s will train as usual on Sunday morning and will be finished in plenty time for them to watch the big game. The u12’s train on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and the club had mixed fortunes last weekend with the A’s and C’s going down to Ballymac while the B’s won versus Blennerville. The u14 B’s travelled to Ballymac who got a last minute point to draw the game 2-09 to 3-06. The u16’s also played out a draw against Castleisland and they remain unbeaten in the Central League. The team has qualified for the semi-finals with a game to spare against John Mitchels. Well done to the club’s Scorn a bPaisti
