Medical Matters WHAT IS BOTOX©?
Botox© is an FDA approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, wrinkle lines on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes in women and men. Botox© helps to make you look younger, less cross and less stressed. When Botox© is given properly by an experienced doctor it can make you look great without been obvious. Botox© temporarily reduces muscle activity in these areas and stops the repeated muscle contractions which result in frowning and squinting, which can cause wrinkles over years. Botox© reduces dynamic wrinkles and lines in the forehead and around the eyes which occur when you use your muscles to make facial expressions. Static wrinkles that are present when you are not forming facial expressions (i.e. when your face is at rest) will not disappear with Botox© but may soften with repeated treatments over months or years. In 2015, more than 6.7 million Botox© procedures were
performed in the US making it the most common minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. Botox© is also very useful for excessive underarm sweating and migrain. Botox© is administered by Dr Buckley in the Solas Dermatology and Laser Clinic which is situated in The Ashe Street Clinic, Tralee. Dr Buckley is Allergan trained in this technique and has been injecting Botox© for almost 15 years. He is one of the most experienced injectors in Ireland and teaches doctors about dermatology and cosmetic medicine at international conferences all around the world. He uses tiny needles which are similar in size to an acupuncture needle. You may notice results within twenty-four to forty-eight hours and maximum results are obtained after one to two weeks. Botox© lasts for three to six months depending on the area injected. For further information see www.solasdermatology.ie/botox or phone The Ashe Street Clinic for a free appointment to discuss Botox and see if it for you.

CBS The Green, honoured at Beef awards ceremony in Croke Park At an awards ceremony in Croke Park last week Darragh O’Brien, Michael Scanlon and Darragh Regan from CBS The Green, Tralee were honoured for their participation in the 2018 Certified Irish Angus Beef Schools Competition. Organised by Irish Angus Producer Group, ABP and Kepak, the initiative challenges students to rear five Irish Angus Cross calves for 18 months until their slaughter as part of their Leaving Certificate Agricultural Science project. The group from CBS, The Green all come from a nonfarming backgrounds and so they raised their calves on their teacher, John Mike Fitzgerald’s, family farm. Their project explored the benefits of red meat in a healthy balanced diet. The group were one of five finalists selected to ake part in the competition over 18 months which aims to encourage second level students to gain an understanding about the care and attention that is required to produce and market the highest quality beef for consumers. The organisers are currently in the process of selecting five new schools from a shortlist of

NATURAL HELP FOR BONE HEALTH ACHES AND PAINS IN THE BONES AND JOINTS ARE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR MANY PEOPLE, BUT WHAT STEPS CAN YOU TAKE TO HELP ALLEVIATE THE SYMPTOMS? Alkalising the body –when the body becomes too acidic (caused by lifestyle factors such as diet and environment) this can lead to inflammation and pain, so it is important to take steps to keep it more alkaline. Include fresh fruits and vegetables, dried fruits and wholegrain bread, raw nuts and seeds in your diet. Ensure you are drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water daily. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR as well as green juices are great for alkalising the system. Include anti-inflammatory foods such as ginger, red onion, olives and turmeric. Take a VITAMIN D supplement. This helps to promote the body’s absorption of calcium and phosphorus. Omega -3 fatty acids are essential nutrients for bone health and strength. May Help to reduce inflammation. If you struggle to include 2-3 portions of oily fish weekly in your diet then supplement with a high quality OMEGA-3 FISH OIL.

Vitamin B12 helps to keep homocysteine levels down, an amino acid linked to bone fracture. Consider taking a BONE SUPPORT SUPPLEMENT which contains Glucosamine, Chondroitin and vitamin C or anti-inflammatory herbs. Ask in-store for the one to suit your needs best. Try adding some EPSOM SALTS to your bath to help ease aches and pains. Some gentle exercise such as swimming can also be beneficial. Proper hydration is key for joints to ensure lubrication and also to help flush out the uric acid crystals that can build up and contribute to pain, so plenty of water or herbal teas such as NETTLE. Until Next Time, Stay Healthy

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS!
I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK. This week I just wanted to talk about the time of year we’re at currently. This time of year is a tricky one with regards to fitness and health, summer is coming… and everyone and their mother’s are talking about the lastest diet, no carbs til marbs, and whatever other fads are going around! They also think that whatever they’re doing is the best thing yet and EVERYONE needs to do it. You hear phrases like, “come monday now
I’m giving up the bread” Another thing, why wait til Monday? Monday is just a day. If you really want to get healthy/loose fat/gain muscle why not start as soon as possible?! Who cares what day it is! If you’re going to put it off til Monday, you’re probably going to keep pushing the Monday back further and further, Monday will actually be the symbol of your procrastination rather than anything else. If you know you’re trying your best and you feel you’re informed about your nutrition, keep it up! Don’t fall into any fad diets! Remember, they don’t work long term and they’re most definitely not good for your health!
And trust me, I know. It’s 1000 percent easier said than done… But once you want it and want to do it for you and you only, the rest comes easy. If you’re unsure about what to do, there are SO many health and fitness facilities in Tralee to suit absolutely everyone, so get out there and find the one for you.
On another note, I have a “Less Guilty Cookies” recipe for you all this week! I tried them this week and I would highly recommend. I got this recipe from ChocolateCoveredKatie.com, check out the website she has so many recipes!! • • • • • • •
• • •
oat flour (140g) 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 4 tbsp coconut sugar (brown sugar will also work) 4 tbsp xylitol or evaporated cane juice (white sugar will also work) 1/4 to 1/3 cup chopped macadamia nuts (or walnuts) 3 tbsp to 1/2 cup chocolate chips (Throw in a big handful. I never bother to measure.) 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 2 tbsp vegetable or melted coconut oil 3-5 tbsp milk of choice, as needed
Instructions Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe: Preheat oven. Combine all dry ingredients and mix very well. Add wet, and form into a big ball. Now make little balls from the big one. For soft cookies, refrigerate until cold (otherwise, just bake right away). Bake 7 minutes, or until they’ve spread out and look just a little undercooked. Remove from oven when they’re still a little undercooked, then it’s important to let cookies cool at least 10 minutes before trying to remove from tray, as they’ll continue to cook while cooling. For soft cookies, store in a lidded plastic container. For crispy cookies, store in a lidded glass container.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2018
Wonderful Wonderful Cheese!
While browsing through the farmers market in Tralee a few weeks ago, I came across some fantastic cheese ...Here we have an Italian living in Tralee making Italian cheese from local milk , and its beautiful! So if you don’t know what to do with mozzarella other than a caprese salad here are two ideas for you to try. DON’T FORGET this Saturday {tomorrow} we will be picking wild garlic.... all details on the facebook page Tralee culinary gangsters and blog of the same name
SWEET GEM LETTUCE SALAD WITH BUFALA MOZZARELLA
INGREDIENTS
INGREDIENTS
For the lemon-yogurt vinaigrette • 1/4 cup shallots, minced • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice, divided • 1 tablespoon champagne vinegar • 1 teaspoon kosher salt • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt • 1 cup Persian or English cucumbers, thinly sliced • 4 small heads sweet gem lettuce • 1 ounce buffalo mozzarella • extra-virgin olive oil, to garnish
METHOD 1. 2. 3. 4.
MOZZARELLA AND CAVOLO NERO CROSTINI
Combine the shallots, half the lemon juice, vinegar and salt in a small bowl. Set the bowl aside for 5-10 minutes to marinate the shallots. Add the olive oil in a slow, steady stream, whisking constantly to combine. Stir in the pepper. Taste for seasoning and add more salt or pepper, if desired. Transfer 1/2 cup of the dressing to a small bowl and save 1/2 cup in an airtight container in the fridge for another use. Add the Greek yogurt and other half of the lemon juice to the bowl with the dressing, whisk and set aside.
For the salad: 1. Place the cucumbers in a bowl and add a pinch of salt and 1 ounce of the vinaigrette. Mix thoroughly, then divide and arrange on the bottom of four salad plates. 2. Cut the lettuce into quarters with the root trimmed off and place in a bowl. Add a tablespoon of the vinaigrette and work it into the leaves using your hands. Plate the quarters on top of the cucumbers. 3. Slice mozzarella in quarters and place in front of the lettuce on each place. Garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and serve.
• • • • • • • •
1 bunch of cavolo nero, stems removed 3 garlic cloves Good handful of grated Parmesan Flaky sea salt and black pepper Extra-virgin olive oil Juice of 1 lemon 8 slices of ciabatta 1/2 cup balls of buffalo mozzarella, at room temperature
Place a pan of salted water over a high heat. Cut the cavolo nero into 1-inch strips. Once the water has come to a boil, add the cavolo nero and, when the water comes back to a boil, blanch for 2 minutes. Drain and, when cool enough to handle, squeeze out the excess liquid
METHOD 1.
2.
Transfer the cavolo nero to the small bowl of a food processor. Add two of the garlic cloves, the Parmesan and some salt and pepper, and whiz to a puree. With the motor still going, slowly add 2/3 cup of olive oil, then transfer to a mixing bowl and fold in the lemon juice. Now place a heavy-based griddle pan over medium heat. Lightly coat the sliced bread with a few brushes of olive oil and grill on both sides until lightly charred. Halve the remaining garlic clove and rub over the hot grilled bread. Top with broken-up pieces of mozzarella and a generous amount of the cavolo nero puree. Serve immediately

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! STRONG DRINK
There’s this little guy sitting in a Starbucks just looking down at his drink, sniffling and wiping his eyes. This big troublemaking truck driver sits down next to him, takes his drink, and guzzles it down right in front of his eyes. The small man starts sobbing loudly. The truck driver, now genuinely concerned, says “Hey, hey, come on pal, I was just joking. I’ll buy you another drink. What’s the matter, fella?” “Today was the worst day of my life,” he says. “First, I overslept and was late to an important meeting. I hurried to back out of the driveway and ran over my dog, killing him. My boss was really mad that I was late and fired me as soon as I got to my desk. When I left the building to go to my car, I found out it had been stolen. So I took a cab home and after I paid the cab driver and he drove away, I realized I had left my wallet in the cab. Then I went inside my house only to find that my wife has left a note saying she had run off with the mailman and had taken our savings. Then I came into Starbucks to kill myself and you show up and drink my poison.”
A WOMAN BUYS A PARROT
A woman goes into a pet shop, and says she wants to buy a parrot. “Sure” says the owner. “We have a very cheap parrot for sale, he’s a fraction of what one would normally be because he used to live in a brothel.” “Okay” says the woman. “I don’t see how him living in a brothel before would change anything, I’ll take him.” The woman takes the parrot home. The next morning she walks downstairs, “good morning” she says to the parrot. “Good morning” it says back. Then her son comes downstairs. “Good morning” he says to the parrot. “Good morning” it says. Then her daughter comes downstairs. “Good morning” she says to the parrot. “Good morning” it says. Then her husband comes downstairs. “Good morning” he says to the parrot. Good morning Gary How you doing mate” says the parrot.

3 DUCKS GO INTO A BAR !
Say, what’s your name?” the bartender asked the first duck. “Huey,” was the reply. “How’s your day been, Huey?” “Great. Lovely day. Had a ball. Been in and out of puddles all day. What else could a duck want?” said Huey “Oh. That’s nice,” said the bartender. He turned to the second duck, “Hi, and what’s your name?” “Dewey,” came the answer from duck number two. “So how’s your day been, Dewey! ?” he asked. “Great. Lovely day. I’ve had a ball too. Been in and out of puddles all day myself. What else could a duck want?” The bartender turned to the third duck and said, “So, you must be Louie?” “No,” she said, batting her eyelashes. “My name is Puddles.”

TORQUING CARS! TYCOON WHO SPENT £40M ON CLASSIC CARS SUES CAR DEALER HE INVESTED WITH CLAIMING HE INVENTED BUYERS AND SELLERS
A tycoon who spent £40 million on classic cars is suing a car dealer he invested with, claiming he is a “serial fraudster” who invented fictitious buyers and sellers. Mike Tuke, an engineer, began investing when he sold his pioneering prosthetics company, Finsbury Orthopaedics, in 2009 for over £60 million. The High Court heard he was “not overly impressed” with returns on standard investments and so after a “long and amiable meeting” with Derek Hood, an Essex car dealer, he decided to put his cash into classic cars.Mr Tuke says the dealer told him classic cars were “better than banks” and that he “could double his money”. Between December 2009 and March 2013, he bought 40 iconic motors, including a Jaguar XKSS, Jaguar Group C racing cars, a Ferrari 250TR and Lister Knobbly, at a total cost of almost £40 million. Mr Tuke, from Guildford, is now suing Mr Hood and his company, JD Classics Ltd, for around £9 million. Sean Brannigan QC, for Mr Tuke, said the businessman was determined to prove that Mr Hood is a “serial fraudster”.Mr Tuke claims that, at their December 2009 meeting, Mr Hood agreed to “source” cars for him for a 10 per cent commission on profits. However, Mr Brannigan claimed that Mr Hood – the owner and “directing mind” of JD Classics – invented fictitious buyers and sellers in order to hoodwink Mr Tuke. In one example, he claimed Mr Tuke paid £254,000 for what he was told was a “very rare” AC Aceca Bristol Competition car in the belief that he was dealing with a third-party seller through JD Classics, but the court heard JD Classics in fact “owned the car itself”, having paid just £84,000 for it only three weeks earlier. Mr Hood and JD Classics deny any wrongdoing. Mr Hood also denies he ever agreed to act as Mr Tuke’s “sales agent”, and says that JD Classics was always dealing “on its own account”. The full trial is due to take place at the High Court later this month.
HOW DEMAND FOR USED DIESEL CARS WILL CONTINUE FOR A LONG TIME YET
One important point overshadowed in the fallout and comment over Toyota’s decision to stop selling new diesel passenger cars from next year is the claim that there will be strong demand for such cars on the second hand market. To his credit, Toyota Ireland chief Steve Tormey emphasised that in an interview with Motors. He said: “There will still be demand for second-hand diesels. Supply and demand will dictate that for a period the residual value will stay quite strong.”He expected people will still want a good, used Toyota diesel in three years’ time.Of course, we have to allow for the fact that he is trying to keep the market calm and preserve second-hand values at a time of potential volatility. That’s only correct, proper and businesslike. But there is the reality too that, as he mentions, people will still want and need diesels for some time. The message is that diesel on the used market won’t die for quite a while.Yet there is no doubting the level of uncertainty among owners and potential diesel buyers. People are fearful of getting lower trade-in values. The fact is that used values for many cars, not just diesels, have dropped (though not by as much as some might make out). That dip can be attributed to the volume of imports as much as anything else. So, while the market is adjusting to import values, it is also returning to what it was 10 years ago when petrol was so popular.Diesel is now being bought more rationally by those who drive the distances that warrant its use and not by those covering minuscule annual totals of 5/6,000kms.Add the increasing presence and popularity of hybrids to the mix and it is easy to see why diesel is no longer the darling. But it is not dead, especially when the people who say it is long-term are at pains to point out that there will be demand for second-hand models in the medium term. We need the changeover to electric to be orderly and managed as and when the EVs come on stream in volume. That could be a slow enough process. Meantime, you should not be overly penalised because you own a diesel in the absence of anything else that can do the same job for you.The government in 2008 canonised diesel - it now needs to find a way to ensure we don’t suffer its demonisation by having to suffer poor trade-in prices.Maybe it is time to start talking and thinking about a special government scrappage scheme drive for older diesel models? TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER Stadium on Saturday. On Sunday Christopher Mongan (Boy 2 54kg) and Shane Coffey (Boy 3 44.5kg) are in action.
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR TWO BASKETBALL ALL STARS FOR WARRIORS AS THEIR SEASON CONTINUES: The great season for Kerry basketball has seen two Tralee players named on the All Star list, two of five overall from the three teams in the National League. The Travellodge All Stars were voted for by the coaches of all the teams and Trae Pemberton and Kieran Donaghy have been duly rewarded for their season with the Lakers. The other three Kerry played selected were in Division 1 with Keanes Killorglin’s Kevin Grey and Daniel Jokubaitis and Scotts Lakers Killarney’s Antuan Bootle. While basketball is an indoor sport that does not mean it is unaffected by the weather and the Warriors game against Griffith Swords Thunder was one that was re-fixed. But they did make the journey early on in the week when they continued the defence of the Champions Trophy by defeating the Dublin side 78-71. Goran Pantovic was Garvey’s top scorer on 19 followed by Trae Pemberton on 17 and Kieran Donaghy on 15. Last night, if you are reading this on Friday, the Warriors were in semi-final action when they took on the newly crowned Super League champions UCD Marian. In the other last four clash Black Amber Templeogue will take on Killester. UNDERAGE: On the underage scene with local basketball coming to an end the thoughts of the Kerry teams turn to the Inter Regional Finals that will take place in the UL Arena on Easter Monday. The u14 Boys are in with Cork, Galway, Clare, North Munster and the Midlands while the U14 Girls face the same opposition. The u17 Boys face Cork, Midlands and North Munster while the girls face the same teams plus Dublin. TRALEE RUNNERS NOT BOTHERED BY THE COLD: The organisers of the Tralee Marathon sponsored by Kerry’s Eye and run by Tralee Harriers will have been delighted when they woke up last Sunday as it was a cold but dry day for the big races. Big crowds were on the road to cheers the workers and at the end of the full

marathon Alex O’Shea took the win in a time of 2.38.22 with Derek Griffin from the host club in second in 2.39.16. Mick McKenna was the third male home clocking 2.42.38. The top three in the Ladies were Dolores Duffy who stopped the clock at 3.12.43 and was followed home by Kathy Rae (3.36.24) and Mandy Prendergast (3.41.44). There were many other categories and races on the day with Brian Murphy the first man home in the half marathon and Shona Keane the first lady. Cyril Stack and Sinead Tangney were the first male and female in the 10k with Donal O’Callaghan and Niamh O’Mahoney taking the first two places in the 5km race. RUGBY CLUB AT THE DOGS: This Friday night the highlight at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium is a benefit night for Tralee Rugby club with fantastic door prizes of a night’s stay in the Europe Hotel in Killarney. There is also a chance to win two tickets to Thomond park to watch Munster v Toulon in the Champions cup plus many more top class prizes. Friday’s card will also have the first round heats of the John and Mary Killeacle Dowling Memorial A1 current 570 yards. On Saturday the matinee meeting at 2.12 in a 8 race program but there will be no racing that night. The track is currently taking entries for the William Costello construction coursing bred stake that starts on March 31st and the Lee Strand 550 yards A3 confined 550yds that begins on Friday April 21st. Entries to racing office on 061 448057. RUGBY CLUB MOVES INTO TOWN FOR FUNDRAISER: Tralee Rugby Club is holding a fundraising night at the dogs this Friday 23rd March at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium. A great night promised to be had in aid of Tralee Minis Rugby on Friday night 23rd March. Along with 12 sponsored dog races we will also have 3 groups of our mini age grades race down on the track. Raffle tickets will be on sale on the night and plenty of spot prizes. OVER 100 ENTRIES TO DATE FOR CIRCUIT OF KERRY: Friday 23rd March 2018
Fresh from the West Cork rally where a number of Kerry crews put in decent performances the attention now turns to the Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry. Amongst the big names already confirmed are Daniel Cronin who will have Shane Buckley calling the notes and Top Part West Rally Championship leader Roy White. Defending champion Shane McGuire will also be on the start line in an effort to defend his title. Top Part of course has a strong Tralee connection with the first shop opened in Tralee in the late 70’s. The rally is also part of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship, the company headed up by Kerry Motor Club member and competitor Kevin Barrett. The Rally will be officially launched this Saturday at the Top Part Headquarters and then at the Rose Hotel where details of the new Moriarty’s Centra Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship will also be announced. MIXED LUCK FOR TRALEE BOXERS: There was mixed luck at the Munster Championships with Shane Coffey boxing very clever to win against Colin Fitzpatrick from the Ennis Boxing Club in the Boy 3 44.5kg. He will box for a Munster title this Sunday. Francie Doherty, in the Boy 1 37kg, came up against Jamie McCarthy (Rvierstown BC from Cork), a boxer who has been described as the Best Boy 1 for a number of years. McCarthy is the favourite to win the All Ireland this year but will probably not have as tough a fight as he had against Doherty. The Tralee fighter never took a backward step and will certain learn from fighting such a tough opponent. Johnathon O’Brien came up against Sean Rynne (Kilfenora BC) and will come on from this experience which he is lacking as he is new to the sport. This was just his third fight and he is coming on well under the coaches at the Tralee club. This weekend is a busy one for the club with the three McCarthy’s – Mike, John and Patrick in the National semi-finals in the National
LACEY’S FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON SETS HIM UP FOR RAS MUMHAN: Sean Lacey’s new team has made a great start to the cycling season including winning the Lacey Cup. Now Sean Lacey has taken his first win for the Viner Caremark Pactimo team winning the Bobby Power Memorial race in Carrick On Suir on St Patrick’s Day. It was a good weekend for Tralee riders as on Sunday in Newcastlewest Tralee Manor West’s Cormac Daly taking the win and Cathal Moynihan finishing third. Following his winning exertions the previous day Sean Lacey (Vimer Caremark Pactimo) was 7th. Tralee Manor West’s David O’Sullivan was 6th in the A3 race and the club had two riders in the A4 top ten with Stephen Griffin 4th and Paudie Sullivan 8th. Over 200 riders will take part in the Ras Mumhan starting on Good Friday with Lacey’s new team in the peloton along with the Tralee Manor West team led by Cathal Moynihan. There will be a number of other Kerry teams racing against teams from the UK, Holland and all over Ireland. PARK DOUBLE HEARTBREAK: It was a tough weekend for St Brendan’s Park as they lost out in the Munster Youths Cup semi-final going down to Dungarvan United 4-0 and to Leicester Celtic 1-0 in the u14’s National Cup quarter final. The Youths put in a good effort but went behind on the 17th minute and were 2-0 down at the break. As they tried to chase the game in the second half some gaps naturally began to appear and the home side took advantage. But their very good season is not over yet as they will now turn their attention to the much anticipated home game against St Kevin’s Boys from Dublin in the semi-final of the FAI Youths Cup. The 14’s made the long trip to Dublin to face the DDSL side Leicester and went down to the only goal in the game. The Park boys did everything but score in the second half. However we might not have heard the last of this game yet. DYNAMOS ON THE NATIONAL STAGE: It was a good weekend off the field for Tralee Dynamos. At the FAI Soccer Awards ex player Brian Fitzgerald was nominated as the Intermediate Player of the Year. He was accompanied by his mother, and Dynamos secretary Sheila. The other nominate was Sean Kennedy in the u15 category and while neither picked up the award to be in the top 3 in the country is a great achievement. Sean was treated to a surprise welcome

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER home in Annascaul where the locals thronged the South Pole Inn. I was delighted to speak representing the League with Noel White, Ken O’Connor and a number of players from Tralee Dynamos joining the Annascual FC boys at the function. This week another ex-Dynamos player is pulling on the green of Ireland. Rian O’Sullivan, who is now signed with Brighton FC is with the Irish u19’s in the European Championships Elite Round in Portugal. They will face the hosts plus Slovakia and Kosovo. BIG WEEKEND IN THE LEAGUE OF IRELAND: With the snow putting a halt on many of the League of Ireland games last weekend the Kerry u17’s will make their seasonal debut this Sunday at Mounthawk Park. They welcome UCD to Tralee for a 2pm kick off. Kerry defeated the students at home last year and drew in Dublin so will be looking to get off to a good start. Darren Aherne and his management team have been working hard with the squad and all are set for the game. Before that the u15’s are at the same venue on Friday night as they face Cobh Ramblers with a 7.45pm kick-off. A big crowd is expected to see the new squad’s first game of the season. The squad has been in training for the last few months under Danny Diggins and JP Mullins and will be looking to build on the decent short season that kicked off the u15 League of Ireland last season. Kerry are one of only 4 Leagues invited into the League of Ireland with the others being Carlow/Kilkenny, Cavan / Monaghan and Mayo. KENNEDY CUP GROUP KNOWN: The Kerry u14’s did not have long to wait at the Kennedy Cup draw as they were the first name out of the drum and are the top seeds in Group 1. They have been paired with Roscommon who they will open their tournament against on June 11th. The following day they will face Mayo and then Cavan/ Monaghan. The League met the parents of the players this week and are also looking for any business that would like to get involved in sponsoring the team who will be in UL with the 31 other Leagues from all around the country. ANOTHER ALL STAR FOR KERRY: The GFP Rising All Stars team was named this week following a great weekend of Ladies action in the Moynihan, Donaghy and Lagan Cups. Tralee I.T’s Katelynn O’Sullivan has been named at right corner forward on the GFP Rising All Stars team. KERRY FANS RELATIVELY HAPPY: If you offered Eamonn Fitzmaurice the scenario that they would be safe in Division 1 on 6 points with a game to go he might not have publically accepted it but behind the scenes it’s a case of job done in
the League. Kerry travel to Tyrone next weekend with both sides safe and with only pride and positioning to play for. But as a certain Man United manager said recently third is better than fourth so expect Kerry to give it everything. It will be a good test for the younger players facing the toughness of a Tyrone defence. After the game Eamonn will have a better idea of where his side is ahead of the Championship and of what players will be battling for a place on the team, taking into account the number of experienced players that have to come back. Kerry will be expected to make it easily to the Super 8’s and will want to win the Munster title to stay from Dublin in the Group stages. One of the big clashes of the summer could be Kerry v Galway who has been the team to catch the eye during the League. Last weekend Kerry got the win as expected against a relegated Kildare with a performance that had lots of good things about it but also lots to work on. With Donegal going down Monaghan Kerry were safe. While Kerry fans attention will be on their game everyone will be keeping more than an eye on the big clash – at the wrong end of the table – between Mayo and Donegal with the loser relegated. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 13,14,15 and 23 and the next jackpot will be e6,700 with the draw in Keane’s Bar.
