LEGAL CORNER

Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read

The More you tell the more you sell!!!

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES

Student Working Rights

Sophie is starting the 1st year of her degree in IT Tralee in September and wishes to get a part time job to help with finances. So let’s take a look at some of her rights in the workplace. The minimum wage at present is €9.55 per hour. This does not mean that everyone is automatically entitled to receive this, if you are under 18 are only guaranteed up to 70%of the national minimum wage. All employees are entitled by law to a payslip. A pay slip is essentially a statement in writing from the employer to the employee that outlines the total pay before tax and all details of any deductions from pay. If Sophie takes up a job in a bar or restaurant, which is popular amongst student due to the evening hours she should note that there is nothing in law to state she is automatically entitled to tips/gratuity the customers may leave. However, the law does not require her to hand these tips to her employer either! In the end of the day it is down to the custom of the establishment, but note that if tips are collected by management and paid to staff through the payroll, then these tips are subject to tax in the normal way. She may find that those hours do not suit her so when leaving a job where you have been for a short time her employer is entitled to at least one week’s notice if she has been there 13 weeks or more. If she has been working for her employer for less than 13 weeks and has no contractual obligation to give notice then the she is not obliged to give notice. It should be noted too that an employer is under no legal obligation to provide a written or oral reference when an employee leaves so she should check this out beforehand. If Sophie is on unpaid sick leave or leaves her job then her tax liability may be reduced and she may be entitled to some tax back. For PAYE workers your tax liability is spread out evenly over the year. To ensure that this is achieved, your tax liability is normally calculated on a cumulative basis. This means that when an employer calculates your tax liability, they actually calculate the total tax due from 1 January to the date which your most recent wages are paid. If your income is reduced, you will have unused tax credits and may be due a tax refund. It is always better to check this out straight away when leaving employment at the local tax office. Legal Quip “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Study and learn as if you were to live forever.” —Gandhi

Medical Matters PREPARING FOR PREGNANCY BY NURSE MARY CULLEN SHEEHAN A woman’s health around the time she becomes pregnant has a major influence on the health and wellbeing of the mother and baby during pregnancy and after the baby is born. Any couple planning a baby should make an appointment to see their GP or practice nurse/midwife. Issues such as the mother’s physical, mental and social needs should be assessed before she becomes pregnant Timing of pregnancy is important. Women over the age of 35 have an increased risk of miscarriage, pregnancy complication and chromosomal abnormality compared to younger women. Although many women go on to have healthy babies after the age of 35 or 40, it is safer to become pregnant at a younger age. It is recommended that women should have a healthy diet, stop smoking, take very little or no alcohol and take 4mgs of folic acid daily for at least 3 months prior to conceiving and throughout pregnancy. Her partner should also try to have a healthy life style.

Women who are overweight should be encouraged to lose weight prior to pregnancy, as being overweight increases the risk of developing diabetes in pregnancy, high blood pressure and having a baby born prematurely (early). Women who are underweight also have an increased risk of miscarriage, going into labour early or having a low birth weight baby. All women should be advised to keep a record of the first day of each period as this can help to determine the expected date of delivery of her baby. The GP or practice nurse/midwife will discuss in detail any over the counter, prescription or herbal medication the woman or her partner are taking to ensure they are safe to take in pregnancy. All women who are planning a baby should have a blood test to ensure she has immunity against rubella (German measles) as this viral infection can badly affect the baby if the mother gets the infection while pregnant. Non-immune women should be vaccinated against rubella at least three months before becoming pregnant.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS PARENTAL LEAVE Question What is parental leave? Can both parents take it? Answer Each parent of an eligible child may take up to 18 weeks of unpaid parental leave from work. Leave can be taken no later than the child’s eighth birthday. However, if your child has a disability or a long-term illness, you can take parental leave up to their 16th birthday. If you adopt a child between the ages of six and eight, you can take leave for that child up to two years after the date of the adoption order. (Your contract of employment may also provide for an extended age limit.) You can take 18 weeks of leave per child in one continuous period or in two separate blocks of a minimum of six weeks. If taken in two separate blocks, there must be a gap of at least 10 weeks between the two periods of leave per child. However, if your employer agrees, you can separate parental leave into periods of days or even hours. Taking parental leave does not affect your other employment rights. Apart from the loss of pay and pension contributions, your position remains as if no parental leave had been taken. This means, for example, that while on parental leave you will continue to accumulate your annual leave entitlement. While you are on parental leave, a public holiday that falls on a day when you would normally be working is added to your period of leave. When you return to work after taking parental leave, you can ask for a change in your work pattern or working hours for a set period. Your employer must consider your request, but is not obliged to grant it. Both parents have an equal entitlement to 18 weeks’ parental leave each. Unless you and your partner work for the same employer, this leave is non-transferable; you can only claim your own parental leave entitlement of up to 18 weeks per child. However, if you both work for the same employer and your employer agrees, you

Bexblah Beauty HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!

I’m just in the airport waiting to go to Sydney… can we cope?! This week I’m going to talk about something that I get asked about loads, my current skincare routine. My skincare routine is ever changing so here are my current obsessions. SAND AND SKY AUSTRALIA FACE MASK This isn’t my first time raving about this mask, I absolutely love it! Brilliant for my pores and texture, I got mine online.

CLARINS HYDRA ESSENTIEL MOISTURISING REVIVING EYE MASK This is a new item to my skincare routine, but a favourite all the same. I’ve been using this as a night time eye mask and I really can see a difference in the mornings. My eyes look so much more rested and awake!

KIEHLS MIDNIGHT RECOVERY CONCENTRATE I have been using this every night & I absolutely love how my skin is looking. Kiehls is definitely one of my favourite skincare brands. KIEHLS ULTRA FACIAL MOISTURISER Ever since I saw Makeup By Mario using this in his Masterclass its the only moisturiser that I’ve used. I love it!

LA ROCHE POSAY EFFACLAR DUO+ WITH SPF Obsessed with this, highly recommend it to anyone with acne prone skin. I use it every day before moisturising. This also has SPF 30 so that’s ideal.

This week I’m going to be talking about the food side of Titan Fitness. In the package I got, I have 3 meals included everyday except Sundays. There are many menus in Health’s Kitchen, you have an ‘under 500 calorie’ section, ‘bodybuilder’ section & a regular section - I mostly ate off the regular one. BREAKFAST

DINNER

OTHER FOOD IN

Breakfast at Health’s Kitchen is buffet style, you can get any type of eggs, omelettes, toast, fresh fruit, museli, salad, sauteed potatoes (my favorite) and much more!

I loved the dinners at Titan, mostly because I love Thai food. My top favourites were the Thai Green Curry, Pineapple Rice & Pad Thai.

For lunch at Titan you can order off of any of the menus that you wish. My favourite lunch was definitely Chicken Cashew Nut or a ham & cheese toastie.

CHALONG

On Sunday Health’s Kitchen is closed. But not to worry there are SO many yummy food places to choose from, Mama’s, The Shack, Pure Vegan Heaven, Nommys, Island Poke Bowl, Koko Hut Ocha Dee& so many more. In Chalong you’re never stuck for somewhere to eat!

EATING OUT IN TRALEE

An Italian Love Story! Amore Mio A few years ago , a young couple from the Lake Garda district in Italy experienced not one but two magical Holidays in Ireland . These holidays were going to change their lives..

Samantha and Daniel are the proud proprietors of Tralees newest Authentic Italian restaurant and Pizzeria ‘Amore Mio’ ( ‘my love’ in Italian). based in Rock Street , Tralee . Italian food is in their blood as Daniel is third generation chef... His Grandfather and father ran the very successful Italian restaurant ‘Napoli’ in Naples for over 60 years . Not to be outdone SAmantha is also a professional chef whose father was also a successful Italian Chef ....So in 2017 they packed their bags and continued their love story with Ireland and opened Amore Mio ...to rave reviews I might add , the comments on Social media are causing a storm as everything from their handmade Pizzas to their Pasta dishes to their Salads and their killer dessert Tiramisu are being sampled by the people of Tralee. “SAys Daniel “ Our takeaway Pizzas are extremely popular , we dont have delivery yet but hope to soon ...at the moment people are quite happy to come in and collect and we are seeing a lot of people coming back ....thats a good sign, isn’t it ?” “We know how good the Irish food is here , we just want people to experience how good Italian Food is, when its really authentic and cooked by Italians! says Samantha . Our dream is to buy a house in Kerry and raise a family.., a little way off yet but the people of Kerry will help us we hope“ “The food here in Ireland is so fresh and we combine it with the Flour , Mozarella and Tomato sauce that we bring in directly from Naples” says Daniel along with Italian Pasta and Italian Ham. Samantha makes the delicious Tiramisu which has to be experienced! At the moment , Amore Mio serves Italian Coffee , Lunch and evening food , Wine is BYO at the moment but that should change in the near future . They have a great offer until the end of May with their House dish “Pasta Pesto Chicken and Mushroom “ for only €7... Think its time for a visit !

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! AN IRISHMAN APPLIES FOR A JOB AT HIS LOCAL STABLES After being shown around the yard the Irishman was asked if he has ever shoed a horse before, After a long pause... He replies “I’ve haven’t, but I once told a donkey to buzz off”

A MAN WALKS INTO A PET STORE AND ASKS FOR A POLAR BEAR

surprisingly the store has one for sale. But the assistant warns the man: “Do never, under any circumstances, tickle the bear behind the ears.” Of course, the man buys the bear and cheerfully takes it home. After a while he can’t help the urge any more and tickles the bear behind the ears. With a wild roar the polar bear lunges at the man, who runs away in great fear. The bear chases him through the whole house, down the stairs, into the kitchen and around the table, where he finally catches up to the man, pats him on the back and says: “Tag, you’re it!”

THE UKRAINIAN FARMER AND HIS SON

A Ukrainian farmer had a son who wanted to go to university “Son, you not want to go university; stay here and work with me on farm” “No father. I go to university to learn many things” So the son goes. Months later, the son comes home for break. The father says, “So my son, you go to university. What you learn?” And the son says “I learn ‘Pi r squared’” “You dumb son of a bitch! See what good university does for you! Pies are round! Cakes are square!”

WHO HAS BETTER FRIENDS

A husband and wife are having a friendly debate one night, centered on the topic of who has better friends. They each offer a wide variety of anecdotes and stories, but in the end, they decide to put it to the test. “Here’s what we’ll do,” the wife suggests. “I’ll call your friends, and you call mine. We’ll both pretend that the other person hasn’t come home yet, and that we’re worried. Whoever’s friends give the best advice about where to find us clearly know us better, and therefore are better.” The husband agrees to the game, and they both head off into separate rooms. When they reconvene a half an hour later, the husband looks defeated. “Okay, honey,” he says, “I think it’s pretty clear that you have better friends. Every one of them listed each of your favorite restaurants, salons, shops, and art galleries, and they had phone numbers for each of them. They knew your work hours by heart, your office extension, your boss’s name, and even the route that you take home.” The wife shakes her head. “No, dear,” she replies, “you have better friends.” “Why do you say that?” asks the husband. “Well,” the wife replies, “most of them said that you’d been at their place, and three of them said that you were still there.”

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER go down to Desmonds.

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR CARRAGHER CHATS TO US:

I had the pleasure of being one of just three sports journalists to sit down with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher ahead of his night in the INEC in association with his 23 Foundation. The Foundation works to raise money for kids from disenfranchised areas of Merseyside. He has a huge knowledge of the game and is certainly enjoying the present Liverpool success which he credits to Jurgen Klopp and the players he has brought in. “I was very critical of Liverpool for letting Coutinho go but they have done very good business like Van Dyke with some money to spare from that deal” “I still think he is a loss but we don’t know what he was like in the training ground, how his attitude was. However while we all criticise and question managers there is no doubt Klopp is doing a great job at the club – just look at how he has Salah playing plus some others that would not jump out as typical Liverpool players such as Rogers and playing Trent at left back”. He also feels this team is better than the 05 team. “I feel we were a better team when we lost the final in 2007. We had some great individuals in those teams and then added Torres but this team is better overall. If I could bring in a player it would be one that could play across the front three positions and possible a central midfielder. And while the keeper is playing well I think the club should look at world class keeper.” However Jamie also thinks that Pep Guardiola is an incredible manager. “I think Pep is unbelievable as a manager. He is special when you look at what he does with the players he has. And it’s not all about buying world class

32

TRALEE ADVERTISER

superstars. He has moulded the players into playing a special brand of football and that’s his great strength.” He was really looking forward to the games against Roma saying that “the big question is how will Roma handle Anfield and the atmosphere? It’s a huge opportunity for both clubs to reach the ultimate club game when they possibly didn’t expect to” He certainly called that right as we saw on Tuesday night. And Carragher could have been an Irish player!! “After I scored against Aston Villa on my Liverpool debut Mick McCarthy spoke to my agent regarding my playing for Ireland. As far as I know I am qualified but have not checked up on my family tree but it seems that Mick did!!” Carraghers has an interesting opinion on young players signing for big clubs. I asked him about Conor Masterson, who played against Kerry in a Kennedy Cup and was on the Liverpool bench for the Champions League. “My own son was at Liverpool and is now at Wigan. It is an interesting one but the big plus for a young player is the level of coaching they will get at a top club. And while the dream of course is to make it at one of the top clubs it must be about being the best player you can be. The dream should be there but it must not be allowed destroy a player if it doesn’t happen. There are loads of opportunities an as I said the goal has to be to become the best player you can be.” For Liverpool fans Jamie feels they are in the best position to challenge Man City over the next season or two. “While Liverpool won’t have the money of a City or United the squad they have now with a few additions I think we are in a great position to win that elusive Premier title”. Unlike many professional Jamie does not at this time have an interest in going into coaching. His 23 Foundation is one of his big priorities and since the interview there have been initial talks about some connections being made between the Foundation and the game in Kerry. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The seniors and An Ghaeltacht could not be separated in their Round 3 County League clash. The West Kerry side led by two points at half time 0-08 to 0-06 but it ended 0-16 point each and a point a piece was probably a fair result. Friday 27th April 2018

In Division 5 Group A Valentia took the win 4-20 to 3-08 Minors: The minors went down to Listowel Emmets on Friday night losing 4-12 to 4-07. There was a big crowd in Healy Park for the Juvenile academy with St Pat’s the visitors. The players of the week at u6’s were Brogan O’Brien and Danni Murphy, the u8’s Ryan Nix and Mark Hassett, u8/u10 girls Cora Meehan and the u10’s Christian Dunne. The Academy continues this Sunday at 11am. The u10 Go Games start this Wednesday night while the u 12 A’s and B’s played challenge games against John Mitchels. They play An Gaeltacht this Sunday At 6.30pm. The u14’s advanced to the Coiste Tralee Suit Select final defeating Na Gaeil 4 -11 to 1-07 to set up a final against The Stacks. They were also due to be in action in mid-week. All the Ladies teams are training at their usual times ahead of a busy few months. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 10,16,23 and 26. ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL: The annual schools finals took place on Thursday last in Austin Stack Park and in the boy’s competition Balloonagh NS were the overall winners STACKS STORIES: The u14’s were just pipped by Glenflesk in the final game of the Lee Strand Feile Peile na nOg. They put up a great effort but just went down 2-04 to 2-08. It was a great achievement for such a young squad to get to this stage of the competition. Any parent wishing for their child to avail of the GAA scholarship to spend time in the Dingle Gaeltacht during the summer holidays please text your child’s name immediately to your clubs secretary. Please note the change of time for the PAUL Lucey Memorial Fun Run and Walk. It will now take place on the May Bank Holiday weekend. This Sunday a promotional video for the event will be filmed in Connolly Park. The Juvenile Academy will take place there at 10.45am. The u10’s Go Games commenced this week with the club fielding 3 9-a-side teams. The u12 A’s and B’s defeated Rathmore while the u14’s are in mid-week County League action. The u16’s were unlucky to

BALLYMAC NEWS: In Round 3 of the Senior County League the senior team travelled to Austin Stacks and it was the Tralee side that won 2-14 to 2-09. In the Lotto there was no winner from the numbers drawn 7,11,19 and 27 and the next jackpot will be e4,400. The u14’s travelled to Connolly Park to take on Laune Rangers in the semi-final of the Feile but it was the Killorglin side that took the win 4-08 to 2-06. There was a big turn-out for the Academy while in the u12’s Team 2 went down to Beale. They along with the u14’s and u16’s were in mid-week action. SCOR NA BPAISTI: The greater Tralee area did well in the County final of Scor na bPaisti with St Pats winning the Ballad Group and coming second in the Leiriu. Ballymac were second in the figure dancing. There was great success in the quiz with Na Gaeil taking the win and Parnells in second. PARNELLS NEWS: The club hosted a very enjoyable u17 Camogie blitz with teams from Clare, Cork and Limerick taking part. Cillard and Sliabh Rua took gold and silver on the day. There was also a great turn out for the u8’s and u10’s Blitz with Clare, Limerick and North Cork taking part. Scór: Well done to the Tralee Parnells Scór quiz team who came 2nd in the County finals. The team was Oisin O’Sullivan, Liam Cooper, Peter Doyle, Donnacha Buttimer. Tralee Parnells Camogie under 14 team: This team are the first from the club to qualify for Feile and will be fundraising so all support will be greatly appreciated. The u16’s are playing in the County League semi-final against St. Brendan’s and the under 14s were very kindly invited by Killarney Camogie Club to a training session they organised with the Tipp senior Camogie Panel in Fossa Saturday. The Lixnaw minors had too much for the clubs team. ST PAT’S NEWS: Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 5,12,24 and 29 with the next jackpot being e7,200 and the draw in Skelper Quanes. Preparations are well underway for the Dingle Way Challenge 2018 which will take place on June 3rd. In the Juvenile Academy the u6’s, u8’s and u10’s had an enjoyable day in Kerins O’Rahillys with great skills on show from all the young players. Training continues this Sunday at 10.30 with new players always welcome. The u12’s are training hard while the u14 Girls hit 4 goals in their first County League game but just ran out of steam away to Churchill who took the win. Their next game is against Duagh. The u14’s saw off Asdee Ballylongford 1-06 to 0-07 in the second round of the County League in Blennerville. They were due to play St Michael’s Foilmore in mid-week while the u16’s Central Region game against Dingle was

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER also off as the West Kerry side could not field a team. The 16’s played Mitchels in mid-week. The minors were well beaten by Beale in the League but there was much better news for the seniors in the Castleisland Mart Junior Premier Club Championship Relegation Play-off. A 3-12 to 0-19 win saw St Pats retain their Junior Premier Club Championship status. KERRY U14 GIRLS MUNSTER FINAL TO BE RE-PLAYED: Kerry Ladies and girls football is certainly going through a tough period on an off the field. The Ladies relegation and loss of three points that they won in Mayo has been well documented as has the committee struggles. Now the u14 Girls Munster championship semi-final has to be replayed. Kerry defeated Tipperary by just one point a few weeks ago. But Tipperary claimed that one of the Kerry girls did not serve the requisite 10 minutes in the Sin-Bin. Obviously in bigger games an official on the side-line would monitor this but in this case it seems this was not the case. There seems to be differing points of view on how long the player had left to serve but the word is that she came on without the permission of the referee. Tipperary appealed and it went all the way to Croke Park and they have ruled that the game is to be re-played but no venue of date has been announced. This to be fair to all sides is probably a sensible decision as where possible games should be decided on the pitch. PARK WINS APPEAL AND WILL PLAY IN SFAI CUP SEMI-FINAL: St Brendan’s Park u14’s had a great run to the quarter final of the Skechers SFAI Cup but this ended with a 1-0 away loss to Leicester Celtic. However it emerged that the DDSL club had played an illegal player and for the last few weeks the club and the Schoolboys League have been working on an appeal process. This was successful and the SFAI have ruled that the Park are will play Cherry Orchard in the semi-final. PARK LIFE: In the 13’s SFAI Skechers Regional semi-final the Park had a very good but hard fought 1-0 away win in Clare defeating Avenue United. Venis Jahiri got the all- important goal while Richie Healy in the goal also played a very important part. They will play Killorglin in the Regional final. The club congratulates its former player Sean McGrath who took part in the Ireland u16’s 2-0 win over Bulgaria. Sean Kennedy the Dynamos players scored in the win. This coming weekend St Brendan’s Park FC will be supporting Barnardos children’s charity with money being collected at all of our club events at Christy Leahy Park. The club will make a donation to the charity so we ask that all parents and visitors to our club grounds this weekend please support this deserving cause Barnardos is a children’s charity which works with vulnerable children and their families in

Ireland and they campaign for the rights of all children. TRALEE MAN IN THE MIDDLE IN THE AVIVA: While Killarney Celtic have come close to reaching the biggest game of the Junior soccer season in the last two years this year there will be a Kerry representative in the Aviva Stadium on May 12th. Derek ‘Del’ O’Shea has been selected to take charge of the FAI Junior Cup final between North End United who knocked out the Killarney side this year and Pike Rovers. Derek, who works in Heatons/ Sportsworld in Tralee, comes from a big sporting family and since he began his refereeing career has worked his way up to taking charge of a number of big games. It is a huge honour for Del and everyone involved in Kerry soccer. Del will be assisted on the day by John Thornton (AUL), Mark Gallagher (AFL), Keith Callahan (Cork) and Brendan Gillespie from Louth is the reserve official. TRALEE BAY SWIMMING CLUB: The 2018 Registration evening for the Tralee Bay Swimming Club will take place on Wednesday May 16th at the Meadowlands Hotel. Membership for the year remains at e50 and a new swim hat is an additional e50. All those taking part this year must have the Green swim hat for safety reasons. The first swim of the World Series will be on Wednesday May 30th at 7.30pm and is sponsored by Hugh Culloty Expert Electrical. STAYING IN THE WATER- MAJOR BOOST FOR FENIT DIVING BOARDS: The Restore Fenit Diving Boards Campaign (RFDBC) received a major boost on Friday when Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) awarded the project a substantial grant of €3500 towards the cost of the new diving boards. The BIM grant will be utilised to make the project shovel ready for the next phase of funding. BIM awards a number of FLAG (Fisheries Local Area Group) grants annually to coastal communities for socially inclusive and community based projects. The RFDBC project was selected for grant aid on the basis of its objectives and the excellence of its design. Galway based Irish Water Safety (IWS) was expected to forward its safety assessment of the bathing slip in Fenit to Kerry County Council early this week. We understand that the safety assessment is very positive and supportive of the campaign to restore the diving boards. The meeting between Kerry County Council and the RFDBC delegation which was scheduled for last Monday, 23rd April was deferred as Kerry County Council requires some time to study the safety assessment. With two major national bodies, BIM and IWS endorsing the project to restore the diving boards at the bathing slip in Fenit, we are confident that Kerry County Council will not unduly delay rescheduling the meeting with the

RFDBC delegation. Despite our delight in securing the BIM grant, we are becoming increasingly concerned that other committed funding might be at risk unless Kerry County Council gives the project the green light to go ahead. We are appealing to the Local Authority to expeditiously sanction this project for the benefit of the people of Kerry and the many visitors, who generate much needed tourist revenue in the area. PRO of the campaign Billy Ryle said that “because of the urgency of the matter, we are ready and willing to meet, at short notice, with Mr Michael Scannell, Manager, Tralee Municipal District and his officials. It would be tragic if Kerry County Council deprives the Tralee Municipal District of such a wonderful recreational/ sporting/tourist amenity due to any unnecessary delay in signing off on our proposal” USE YOUR GOLF CLUBS TO HELP THE ROWERS: Tralee Rowing Club has organised a Golf Classic fundraising event this Saturday 28th of April at Castlegregory Golf Club. Everybody is welcome to participate in this Four Ball Scramble competition, including people new to golf and juniors. Tee Times will be between 8am and 3pm. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes and also a prize for Longest Drive-Nearest the Pin, and goodie bags and refreshments for everybody. The cost per team is €120, individuals welcome too. For registration please call 087 6557465. Tralee Rowing Club was founded in 2005 and has near 90 junior and senior members, with many of them representing Tralee at different races and rowing championships. The club relies on fundraising events like the Golf Classic in Castlegregory Golf Club to help covering the maintenance of boats and other equipment. RACQUETBALL NATIONAL TITLE TO BE WON IN KERRY THIS WEEKEND: This weekend will see another first in sport in Kerry when the All Ireland Racquetball National singles and doubles titles will be competed for in Tralee and Ballymac. The competition is expected to attract over 50 players with action in the Tralee Sports Complex and at the Ballymacelligott club. BALLYMAC COMMUNITY GAMES: Well done to the Ballymac Basketball u16 boys Community Games Team who won the regional final in Limerick on Saturday last. The boys will now go to compete in the national finals. TRALEE RIDERS DO WELL IN THE DRUMM CUP: The 53rd John Drumm Cup drew another huge peloton to Currow and Sean Lacey was the best Kerry rider in 6th in the race won by his team mate Conor Hennebry. Tralee Manor West’s Ciaran Slattery was the best placed A2 with David Fitzgerald 15th.

WARRIORS IN THE HUNT FOR A NEW HEAD COACH: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors have confirmed that Mark Bernsen will not be coming back to the club for next season. The head coach has a long involvement in Tralee basketball working with Tralee Tigers, Tralee Imperials Ladies National League team before taking on the top job at the Warriors in 2016. He guided the side to backto-back Champions Trophy wins and was very popular on and off the court according to Warriors Chairperson Terry O’Brien. “Mark is the consummate professional and an absolute gentleman and he will always be welcome in Tralee. The club thanks him for everything he has done for them and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.” Terry added that the club has begun the process of selecting a successor to Mark AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the second round heats of the 2018 Lee Strand 550.
