Answer It depends on your personal circumstances. Many people work part time before taking up full-time employment. If you are working part time you can, in some cases, keep or apply for a partial social welfare payment, or you may qualify for additional supports. If you work over 38 hours in a fortnight and you have children you may be able to claim Family Income Supplement (FIS). FIS is a weekly tax-free payment for people on low pay. You may be able to claim a jobseeker’s payment for the days you are not working. You can work part-time for up to 3 days a week and claim a reduced Jobseeker’s Benefit or Jobseeker’s Allowance payment. You may qualify for the Part-time Job Incentive Scheme if you were getting Jobseeker’s Allowance and find part-time work for less than 24 hours per week. However, one of the main conditions for getting a jobseeker’s payment is that you must be available for and actively seeking work. This means that you must continue to look for work on the days you are unemployed. You must also be unemployed for at least 4 days out of 7 consecutive days. If you return to work after a period of unemployment, you may qualify for the Back to Work Family Dividend (BTWFD) which aims to help families move from social welfare into employment. The BTWFD and FIS can be paid together and the BTWFD is not taken into account in the means test for FIS. If you are parenting alone and getting a One-Parent Family Payment, you are allowed to earn a certain amount each week and keep your payment. In some cases, people getting disability payments can do some work and keep a social welfare payment.

SPORTSFIELD BAR TO WELCOME THE MAYO AND SYDNEY ROSES THIS YEAR
TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)
Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology
I have a Windows 7 PC. Should I update to Windows 10?
Microsoft are giving a free upgrade to Windows 10 to desktops and laptops that are running Windows 7 or windows 8. This will run out in July and then you will have to pay for the upgrade. I would always suggest that you upgrade while it is free because this will make your device more secure. Before you make any changes to your device it is good practice to backup your data just in case it goes wrong.
What is the best way to pay for goods online?
Nowadays you can pay for goods online by using your credit card or debt card but it is difficult to choose which is the safest. I would always suggest that you register with PayPal because the sellers of the goods will not see your card details. You can also use a top up card which you can be got in the post office such as 3Ireland. The 3rd option is your credit card but before you do this, check out the website by using google just to see if anyone had any bad experience. Do not use your Debt card because this is directly linked your bank account and if your card details get stolen you could be left with nothing in your bank account , if it is not spotted in time by you or your bank.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... PUBLIC CONSULTATION BEGINS ON FUTURE OF ICONIC TRALEE SITE Kerry County Council has announced the first phase of public consultation on the future use of the Denny Bacon Factory Plant site in Tralee, which was donated to the people of Tralee by Kerry Group in 2014. The Council has received €1.5m in EU funding for the regeneration of the historic site which has enormous and exciting potential for the wider revitalisation of Tralee. The opening of consultation on the future of the ‘The Island of Geese’ – the historic name of that part of Tralee – coincides with the launch of a new website, www. theislandtralee.ie which will allow people to log on and submit ideas. Survey forms are also being made available at up to 20 locations around Tralee. Photo By : Domnick Walsh

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2016 Peaches are in season now, beautiful and juicy and often thought of as a dessert only fruit, but it makes a very tasty salad. We served it this week with “st tola goats cheese “ yum yum!!! So here are two lovely ways to serve it as a light salad,as a starter, lunch or main course with salad
GRILLED PEACH AND APRICOT SALAD INGREDIENTS
• • • •
1 bunch kale, destemmed 4 apricots, halved 4 peaches, halved 1/4 pound prosciutto, thinly sliced.
1.
Preheat the grill. While it warms up, tear or chop the kale leaves into bite-size pieces and place those in a large salad bowl. Add a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of olive oil and massage the kale, kneading it for a minute or so until it softens. Whisk together the remaining olive oil and the lemon juice, adjusting to your taste. Set the dressing aside. Tear or cut the prosciutto into smaller pieces and set those aside too. When the grill is reasonably but not overwhelming hot, brush the apricots and peaches very lightly with a neutral oil and grill, cut side down, until deeply caramelized. When the fruit is grilled, toss the kale with the prepared dressing and then crumble the feta on top. Add the prosciutto and then the still-hot peaches and apricots, letting their juices seep down into the kale. (If there are any extra juices on the plate you put them on after grilling, add those too.) Eat with crusty bread
2. 3.
GRILLED SALAD
• • •
1/4 cup feta cheese 1/4 cup olive oil 1 to 2 tablespoons lemon juice
WITH ROMAINE, PEACHES, GARLIC SCAPES, AND STEAK
For the balsamic reduction: • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar (use an economical variety and save the good stuff for other uses For the grilled salad: • 2 small heads romaine lettuce • 6 garlic scapes, tips trimmed • 4 to 6 peaches, halved • 1 1/2 pounds skirt steak • sea salt, to taste • freshly ground black pepper, to taste
METHOD 1.
2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
9.
To make the balsamic reduction, pour balsamic vinegar in a heavy-bottomed medium-sized saucepan and set over medium-high heat. Stirring all the while, maintain a constant but gentle bubbling, edging the heat down a bit as needed. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until mixture has reduced by half. Reduction should be thick, but it should still easily drip off the back of a spoon. Set it aside while you grill the vegetables. Prepare a hot grill. Prep the romaine. Leave the core intact, but slice the reddish tip off the very end of the bunch. Next, working from end to top, halve the romaine. Immerse in water, and shake to dislodge any sand, paying close attention to the very base. Shake out and pat dry. Set aside. Grill the garlic scapes over the hottest part of the grill, cooking each side for 1 to 2 minutes. Slice into 4-inch sections and set aside. Grill the peaches on each side for 2 to 3 minutes. Use a sharp paring knife to slice out the pits and then cut each half in half (to make quarters). Grill the romaine for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Cut out the core and chop the leaves into bite-size pieces. Arrange grilled vegetables on plates. Next up, season both sides of the skirt steak with a generous pinch of sea salt. (Adding salt just before cooking leaches less moisture from the meat and makes for an excellent sear.) Cook for 3 to 4 minutes a side, let rest for 5 minutes, and then slice into 1/4-inch slices. Recipes by Lay several slices of steak on each plate and finish with a drizzle of balsamic reduction and several twists ground black pepper

Lovely food, lovely place, great service and dog friendly. If you visit Castlegregory this restaurant is a must, you will not be disappointed ”Quirky Paintings Kenmare “We had an amazing 3 course dinner yesterday night, probably the best we had traveling in Ireland for one week now. Also the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc coming with the dinner was a perfect fit everything coming at a very, very reasonable pricing. A MUST GO when you are looking for excellent food in the area” Wolfgang Dornfeld “Fab spot from the people who ran my fav spot in Kerry, perhaps, Ireland, next door in the Milesian for the last 9 years. This ,as they say in some guides, is worth a detour. Waiting staff are efficient, friendly, professional. Food is full of local flavor and good value. Serious kitchen here. IT’S ONLY A JOKE PARDON
A FIFTEEN YEAR OLD AMISH BOY AND HIS FATHER WERE IN A SHOPPING MALL......
Two men get into an elevator in a doctors office. One man, beaming says to the other, “I just got a brand new hearing aid. It works great; if you were to drop a pin, I could hear it; if a mouse were to sneeze cross the street, I would hear it.” The second man They were amazed by almost everything they saw, replies “thats impressive, what kind is it?” but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again. The first man looks down at his watch and says “11 o’clock.”
The boy asked, ‘What is this, Father?’ The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, ‘Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don’t know what it is.’ While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number. and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order.
PIZZATIME !
While working at a pizza parlour I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. The cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. The man then said ‘Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don’t think I’m hungry enough to eat 6
GRANDAD WE LOVE YOU !!
A little girl says .....”Grandad ,,,,Would you make a frog noise for me?” The grandad, confused asks, “why?” The little girl replies, “dad says when you croak we are all going to disneyland”.
A YOUNG GARDA
A young Garda notices an old man driving through the town at 2 in the morning .... and it had been a pretty slow night and so he decided to pull in over to see if he needed any assistance.
Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blond stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son..... ‘Go get your Mother.’
A SMALL JOKE
A dwarf goes to a very good but very busy doctor and asks “I know you are busy but do you treat dwarves?” The doctor replies “Yes, but you will have to be a little patient”.
“Where are you going sir?,” asked the young officer. “I am on my way to attend a lecture concerning the negative effects of alcohol on interpersonal relationships,” said the man. “Who would hold such a lecture at this time of night?” asked the officer. “That would be my wife,” said the man.

Bexblah Beauty
This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens Hello my beautiful friends, I hope you’re having a fabulous week! Time for a bit of a life update… As you probably know, I finished my ITEC Makeup & Skincare Course in June and got a high Merit in my exams. My whole goal from completing that course was to get a job in the Makeup Industry. Iy’s my passion and I wanted to make a career out of it. So, after finishing, I applied for jobs as a Makeup Artist in many places in Dublin. I didn’t expect much as I’m only newly qualified and had little experience.
Much to my surprise, I got a job on the Lancome counter in House Of Fraser Dundrum!! I started a few weeks ago and it’s so great to be working in a field I enjoy and am interested in. Lancome is under the L’Oreal Luxury Products Division which also includes some of my favourite brands such as Kiehls, Urban Decay, Redken, Kerastase and more. So I am incredibly lucky to get in with such a great brand so quickly. I took what some would call the ‘scenic’ or ‘unconventional’ route to get to where I am now, and I’m not where I want to be yet either. I tried college, I got into The University of Limerick and IT Tralee. But it wasn’t for me, it’s not for everyone and that’s ok too. Once you know what you want, there’s no reason you can’t go out and get it. If you’re a Leaving Cert and not sure what you want, try different things, take a year out, YOU ARE YOUNG, YOU HAVE TIME! I’m only 22, and although I feel like I’m basically 90, I know I’m so young and have so much more to experience. #MotivationalandInspirational #FollowYourDreams #Goals But seriously, life’s too short to not be doing something that gets you excited every day! Because I’m now based in Dublin, it means I won’t be home for makeup appointments as often, but as soon as I know a date that I will be home, I will post it on my Facebook Page ‘Bexblah’ and you can message me about appointments there. I get my roster well in advance and have room to change things around a bit so if you have a specific date you want your makeup done, message me and I’ll see what I can do. And don’t worry, this page won’t become strictly Lancome or anything like that. But Lancome do have some awesome products so I’m excited to let you all know what I think! If you want to contact me for an event, collaboration or just to say hi you can email me at Bexblahbeauty@gmail.com or through any social media, FACEBOOK: Bexblah Beauty, TWITTER: @Bexblah, INSTAGRAM: @Bexblah. Stay Gorge,
Bexblah. Attention BexBlah Readers!

FITNESS!
7 WEEKS TO AYIA NAPA Hello my strong friends, I hope you’re all having a great week! As you know from last week, I’m heading to Ayia Napa on a girl’s holiday in 7 weeks, so for the next 7 weeks I’ll be documenting my progress, thoughts, etc.
This week was great nutrition wise. I had one of my new favourite Green Protein Smoothies(recipe in last week’s issue) every day to get those micros in. I also hit my macros and brought my lunch to work. My weight and measurements have been steadily going down. I weigh myself every day and then average it out at the end of the week, it works best for me. Mentally, feeling great! I had a few off weeks there recently, I’d work hard all week but then it would come to the weekend and I’d undo all my hard work. I wasn’t gaining weight though I was just maintaining which isn’t the worst. I really think that yes, treat yourself at the weekend if you want, but don’t go overboard with food. Or, you can just treat yourself with new gym gear instead! Also, side note: This is basically the longest I have stayed consistent with the gym and nutrition combined and I’m super happy about that! Before now, the longest I would stay consistent would be about 3 months maximum. But this time, it’s nearly been 5 months and I have no plan to like ‘stop’. I enjoy going to the gym, most days, I just feel so much better in myself. There are some days when I’m not feeling it but I either a) take a rest day or b) make myself go and I feel way better after. Like it’s crazy the difference. But more about that on another day. I do a lot of sprints/uphill jogging as part of my workouts. So having good leggings that actually stay up and don’t annoy me is key. Which is where Gymshark comes in. The Gymshark Flex Leggings are 100% the best gym leggings I have tried. They are such a good fit and literally don’t move, don’t fall when you’re running, they just stay put. They’re really reasonably priced too, €35 for a pair and there’s loads of 10% discount codes online. Gymshark just have really fab gym gear that’s good quality and I really recommend it. As I spend a lot of time in gym clothes, I like them to look nice and be comfortable. You can get it online Gymshark.com.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... GOING TO THE DOME THIS YEAR FOR THE ROSE OF TRALEE FASHION SHOW?
A CELEBRATION of style and Kerry’s place as the fashion capital of the southwest will form the centrepiece of the 2016 Rose of Tralee Fashion Show in the Festival Dome on Sunday 21st August. This year’s fashion extravaganza, which was launched at Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa, Tralee, will feature all the top boutiques and stores from the Munster region, including top Irish milliners. The Producer of the Rose of Tralee Fashion Show, Celia Holman-Lee, said: “The Rose of Tralee annual fashion show is one of the biggest platforms to showcase and support the indigenous fashion houses in Kerry, Limerick and nationwide. It is a wonderful opportunity for the country’s fashionistas to plan their winter wardrobe and discover the trends you need to know for Autumn Winter.” Year after year, the Rose of Tralee fashion show encourages Irish designs, and this year’s event will see the introduction of the Rose of Tralee Young Student Designer of the Year Awards where student representatives from every design college in Ireland will compete for the title. This section of the event will represent the creativity and vision of the future fashion with students attending: The Grafton Academy, National College of Art and Design, Griffith College, Mallow College of Design and Tailoring, Limerick School of Art and Design, Limerick College of Further Education, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology and Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, all in the running to win the Trophy and €500 cash prize, sponsored by Cathriona’s Hair Group. The finale of this year’s Rose of Tralee Fashion Show will see a display of established top Irish designers, whose names are synonymous with quality, style and individuality accompanied by music from the incredible Michael O’Brien. The prize for the best dressed lady will include a luxury break for two in the luxurious 4-star Killashee Hotel, Co Kildare, a personal shopping experience at Kildare Village complete with a €500 voucher and €500 worth of jewellery from the Rose of Tralee International Festival’s lead sponsor, Tipperary Crystal. The competition will be judged by 2015 Rose of Tralee, Elysha Brennan and Karen Scanlan, representing Tipperary Crystal. Ireland’s top tourist attraction, Guinness Storehouse, another proud sponsor of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, will also present a prize hamper worth €200 to one lucky member of the audience on the night. Make-up for the show will be applied by the skilled team at CH The Mall Tralee, while Cathriona’s Hair Salon in Castlegregory will style the models on the night. A wine reception will precede the event while fashion show ticket holders (over 18s only) are invited to attend the after-show party in the Pavilion Dome featuring the silky sounds of Frankly Bublé. Tickets to the 2016 Rose of Tralee Autumn Winter Fashion Show are available from www.roseoftralee.ie for only €35. Pictures: Domnick Walsh Photography

TORQUING CARS! BRITAIN’S MOST EXPENSIVE VOLKSWAGEN CAMPER VAN’ HAS STAGGERING PRICE TAG - BUT LOOKS AS GOOD AS NEW
The Devon Type 2 Deluxe Microbus has been restored so well that it looks every bit as good as it did when it left the VW factory in Germany back in 1964 This classic Volkswagen camper van could be set to race into the record bo oks - because its £100,000 price tag makes it Britain’s most expensive. Experts believe the plush 51-year-old motor has been so well restored that it looks like it did the day it left the factory in December 1964. The rare Devon Type 2 Deluxe Microbus is among the most sought-after models of the VW camper, which was an instant hit when it took to the roads in 1950. This 1964 model, with a sea blue bottom half and pale blue top, was despatched from the VW factory in Wolfsburg to Ramsgate, Kent, where it was then transformed into a camper van by conversion company Devon. It went on to be owned by families in Britain and Germany. The seller has spent thousands of pounds restoring it to its original glory and a recent survey rated it as ‘Condition 1’ - the best possible state for a car. Although it has iconic looks the camper isn’t known for its power - it boasts a tiny 1.5-litre engine capable of just 42bhp. Experts at London auction house Bonhams have tipped the VW to sell for UK record £100,000 when it goes under the hammer. However, an independent valuation put its worth at £108,000.
SURPRISE CAR MAKER EMERGES AS BRITAIN’S MOST RELIABLE MOTOR MANUFACTURER Amazingly, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have found themselves at the wrong end of the table - so who was at the right end? After decades of being the butt of countless jokes about its cheap price and poor workmanship, Skoda has had the last laugh on its mockers for it has been named Britain’s most reliable car . The modest motor raced to the top of the table leaving swish brands like Jaguar, Mercedes and BMW trailing. According to research by marketing firm JD Power, Skoda was the least likely to conk out while the more expensive Land Rover was the most likely to let drivers down. A survey of 13,000 drivers with cars no older than three years, found Skoda had 66 problems per 100 cars - less than half the faults racked up by Land Rover. For the swanky car maker was found to have a staggering 197 problems per 100 cars - way above the average of 113. And value for money brand Kia also made the top three for most dependable car with just 80 problems, just behind Suzuki which had 79. Luxury motors Audi, BMW and Mercedes were in the bottom five with Land Rover in the surprise results. The survey revealed high-end models were often less reliable because the cars were kitted out with complex technology which was more likely to go wrong. Five of the top ten problems with new vehicles were tech related with common faults including dodgy navigation systems, poor radio reception and voice-recognition systems that failed to respond to driver commands.

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES skills they are learning while representing The Rock to great effect. The u10’s were at the same venue and took the prize for the second year in succession. They are looking forward to this weekend’s trip to Dublin. The 12’13’s have booked their place in the final with a victory over Na Gaeil in Round 3 of the u13 Town League. The u14’s are into the Central Region Division 1 semi-finals where they played Na Gaeil in mid-week. In the 16’s Central Region Division 1 Round 8 the A’s beat Cordal /Scart 4-09 to 2-12. with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR KERRY TO LOWER THE BANNER AGAIN: So this weekend, at last, the All Ireland football championship gets real or does it? Kerry will take on Clare in the first of this year’s quarter finals and let’s be honest anything but a Kingdom win would be a shock of seismic proportions. Credit to Clare for reaching this stage in a strange year where Munster can still have 4 teams in the last 8, if Cork can win at the weekend. So is the rest of the country getting poorer or is Munster the stronghold now? I think it is probably a bit of both as we have seen both Clare and Tipperary improving year on year. And of course Tipperary have been very successful at underage level. However there is still a huge gap between these teams and the top 4. Just look at the betting with Tyrone the new favourites to lift Sam at 4/1. Dublin remain hot favourites at 10/11 with Kerry also at 4/1. Clare are 250/ 1 and Tipperary 125/1 The calls for a revamp of the Championship are growing but there is still a very strong body of opinion that the Provincial Championships must stay. But really is this the best way. Apart from maybe Ulster the rest are a foregone conclusion. Kerry in Munster as Cork have gone way back which weakens Munster even further and Dublin and no one else in Leinster. In Connacht you could say Mayo or Galway and possibly Roscommon but in reality can any of these win the All Ireland? So if as expected Kerry will beat Clare they will progress to an All Ireland semi-final without a challenge. And they will face Dublin so how well does that prepare them? The problem with trying to chance things is that all counties believe they the right to play for Sam even if they will never get close to winning it. And they feel playing for any other trophy is not the same. The argument will be that Clare and Tipperary have had great years and for Clare they will be in Croke Park twice in the one season, and that does not happen often! In fairness the players from the ‘weaker counties’ train as hard as those from the stronger ones so they deserve to dream. Anyway all Kerry can do is do what they always do and prepare well and do the job which I am sure they will even without Colm Cooper and a couple of others. It is a year of underdogs so that’s why I believe Tipperary will beat Galway. Minor’s face tough test: The Kerry minors will face a tougher task against Derry but this is a class Kingdom outfit. They have been working hard and we are all behind Peter Keane and all involved. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner from the numbers drawn 4,13,21 and 22 and the next jackpot will be e7,100 with the draw in O’Dwyers Bar on Monday night.

Juveniles: The Academy is on a well-earned break until Sunday, August 21st. The u8’s had a great time at the John Mitchels Blitz and enjoyed their games against the hosts, Rahilly’s, Milltown, Ardfert and Churchill. The u10’s were also in action in the same blitz and showed how much the hard work is playing off. The u12’s Mixed Team travelled to the Fitzgerald Stadium to take part in the Munster Blitz and played teams from Limerick and Cork. Well done to all involved. The u13’s lost narrowly to John Mitchels in their final game of their season 4-08 to 3-07. Seniors: The Seniors made the short trip to Paddy Kennedy Memorial Park and took the points in Round 9 of the County League 0-10 to 0-07. It was a great team performance that saw them over the line. Their next game is tonight, Friday night July 29th away to Gneeveguilla at 7.30pm in a back game. Cul Camp: The St Pat’s Cup Camp will take place between August 8th and 12th from 10am to 2.30pm and bookings are now open. KERINS O’RAHILLY’S NEWS: The Senior’s played out an exciting 2-12 a piece draw at home to Milltown/Castlemaine. It was a game of two halves with the Tralee side dominating the first half and their opponents the second period. Owen O’Connell and John Ferguson got goals for Rahillys to put then 2-06 to 0-06 ahead but going into the closing stages Garry Kissane had to make to brilliant saves to keep the game level while Milltown/Castlemaine cleared a late effort off the line. Juniors: Charlie Kerins went down to Tarbert 0-17 to 1-06 while Strand Road were down to play in midweek. The Minors played Dingle in The Central League but were beaten 2-05 to 0-16 and they play Laune Rangers this week. Juvenile: The Saturday morning football for the u6’s to u10’s is back this Saturday and Thursdays. The Summer Camp takes place from August 15th and is free to members. Ladies Event: The Ladies section of the club are holding a pre loved clothes event and pop up shop on August 12th from 6 to 9pm and on the 13th from 12 to 5pm to raise funds. Items can be dropped into the club by August 5th. Under age and Junior Ladies are training at regular times. Lotto: There was no winner of the Jackpot from the numbers drawn 5,8,9, 23 with the next jackpot being e3,300. STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: Camp: The club football camp takes place next week from 9.30am to 1pm starting on Tuesday. The u6’s and u8’s train as normal this week and the u8’s are back from a great Blitz at fellow Tralee club John Mitchels. SUPPORTERS AT THE DOGS: On Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the first rounds of the Midtown Raffa@stud A1/A2 bitch stake. On Saturday night there are the first rounds of the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Supporters Club Rose of Tralee A4 confined 525 yards plus the final of the Bobby Hickson Memorial A6 525 yds. The Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Supporters Club are also sponsoring the last race each Friday night over various grades with double prize money for paid up members. POWER ON THE TRACK: The Tralee Autosolo saw action back on the Ballybeggan Racecourse but this time it was four wheeled horse power rather than four legged hours power! It was great to see the old racecourse being used and it is not used enough. Apart from the annual show and the Point to Point not much more happens there which is unfortunate. Going on a different tangent the buildings and the old stand need some DIY as they do not look good from the new Tralee By Pass. With many cars approaching Tralee from the side and indeed many tourists using that road the racecourse needs at least a coat of paint and a tidy up from that aspect. But that’s for others to take on board. From a sports point of view the Autosolo was a great success. There was a new course put in covering 3km combining tarmac and gravel but even this did not upset brother and sister Pat and Grace O’Connell who won the event for the 4th year in a row. They were 27.7 second winners over Kerry’s Mike O’Connor Junior and Limerick’s Keith Curley with Polish natives and Cork based duo of Lukasc Czapnik and Bartek Curylo who were just 1.2 seconds back in third. The top Kerry Motor Club crew were father and daughter Mike Quinn and Katie who took 5th overall and 1st in Class. They switched from Mike’s normal Ford Escort MK2 to a Mitsubishi Evo. As expected there were lots of Kerry crews in action. Kerry Motor Club members Chris Campbell and Patrick Slattery had a great battle all day finishing 8th and 9th respectively and with only 14.5 seconds separating their Honda Civics. Ian Horrigan and Ronan Lucey were 12th overall and 12th in 2nd in Class 3. Just a few places behind them were Charles O’Neill and Tony McCarthy who took 15th and won Class 2. Paudie Quinn and Gene Stack brought their Toyota Corolla RWD home in 17th and 2nd in Class 6th. Pat Barry and Mike Kenny were 18th and 6th in Class 1. Christian Faulconbridge and Anthony Rigney took 23rd in their Opel Kadette and were 3rd in Class 6. Stephen O’Connor and Paul Herlihy were out in the Honda Civic Type R and were 25th and 8 in the ultra-competitive Class 4F. In the Buggy’s Tom Daly was 4th in the JB Buggy. JIMMY DEVANE MEMORIAL AUTOCROSS: Many of those crews will be cleaning off the cars and tuning them up for the 2016 Killarney and District Motors Club Jimmy Devane Memorial Killarney Autocross this Sunday. The event takes place on grass in Aghadoe and

SPONSORED BY RON CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING & CARPENTRY SERVICES this is the 5th running in memory of one of the great Kerry autocross and rally competitors. The Jimmy Devane Cup goes to the driver with the fastest time and Ian Byrne will be looking to win back to back titles. Scrutiny and sign-on is from 10.30am with racing from 12.30 and prizes will be presented afterwards. The cost of entry stays the same – e80 and e50 for Juniors. ROSE OF TRALEE 3X3: Tralee Imperials in association with the Rose of Tralee are hosting a 3x3 Tournament for u16 and u18 boys and girls teams. The competition takes place in Mounthawk Gym on Saturday August 20th with the entry per team costing e20. To get players familiar with the game Imperials are holding Practice Nights on Wednesday August 3rd, 10th and 17th from 7 to 9pm costing just e2 to take part. The 3x3 tournament is being sponsored by Premier Financial Service and Philip Sicat said they were delighted to be involved. “This is a fast and exciting game and we are delighted to be involved. I coach basketball myself and many of my players will be involved. The company is also very happy that this is being ran in conjunction with the Festival and feel it’s a great addition to the sports section of the programme”. Imperials Jimmy Diggins said the club is looking forward to an exciting day of the 3x3 format of basketball. “We know we will get the teams locally this season and hope that in the future many of the Rose centres might bring a team with them as this is an international sport.” WHO WAS THE BEST IN THE IBIKE TIME TRIAL LEAGUE? For the 6 Rounds of the iBike Time Trial League there were great battles in all the categories. Riders picked their best 4 results to count for the overall standings with the u12’s and u14’s going over 9k against the clock while the u16’s and Senior’s raced over 20km. The pace this year was very strong with many riders clocking Personal Best’s and there were Course Records for Suzanne O’Sullivan from Currow CC in the Ladies and Kieran Coggins, Tralee Manor West iBike, in the u16’s. In the main senior category Moda Kingdom Endurance’s Denis Dunworth equalled his course record of 25.47. Denis is the Man: Denis Dunworth’s of Moda Kingdom Endurance had his season interrupted with a virus but on the 4 nights he competed in the League he was unbeatable and his 48 points sees him crowned the champion. Tralee Manor West iBike riders Tom Gentleman and George Doyle enjoyed a great battle all season with both riders winning one round and taking second on a number of occasions. However on the final nights racing it was Tom who pipped George for the runners up spot and this secured his second place in the League. Over 40 riders took part in the Time Trial League in this category and the top 5 was completed by Ciaran Slattery (Tralee Manor West iBike) who took 4th and Killarney CC’s
Conor Kissane in 5th. Suzanne’s top against clock: Currow CC’s Suzanne O’Sullivan enjoyed a great League and a clean sweep of all 6 rounds was only prevented by a final nights puncture. However her 48 points was enough to give her the title. Sliabh Luachra’s Sinead McCarthy pushed the winner all the way and took the 12 winning points on the final night to secure the runner up spot. Currow CC’s Angie O’Sullivan came to the League late on but three very good results including 2 second place finishes saw her take the bronze medal. Tralee CC riders Anne Marie and Helen Barrett rounded out the top 5 in 4th and 5th respectively. Kieran beats Robbie on count-back in the u16’s: Tralee Manor West iBike dominated the u16 category taking the first five spots. Kieran Coggins won the last 3 rounds following up on his second place in Round 2 to clock up 46 points. Robbie Scott won the first three rounds and had two second places and this also left him on 46 points from his four counting races. The officials had to go to the time sheets and it was Coggins that took the League win having clocked the fastest time. Scott was within a few seconds but has to be content with second while their teammates Jake Deering, Patrick White and David Fitzgerald were 3rd, 4th and 5th. Barrett unbeatable inu14’s: Sean Barrett of Tralee Manor West iBike missed the first round of the League but was unbeatable on the other five nights. He took the overall top spot ahead of Killorglin’s Tadgh O’Shea with another Tralee Manor West iBike rider Eoin Maloney taking 3rd. Killarney CC’s Patrick Galvin ended the League in 4th with Kingdom CC’s Ciaran Commane 5th. Kingdom comes for Adam in u12’s: Kingdom CC’s Adam Lenihan was very impressive in the u12 League and ended with 4 wins and 2 seconds to take the overall win. Killorglin CC’s Aona O’Shea was second and in a show of the strength all over the county at this age group Killarney CC’s Shane Galvin was 3rd. Kingdom CC’s Eoin Hilliard was 4th and Killarney CC’s Killian Caulfield Drier 5th overall. County Championships and Medals: The Time Trial County Championships date will be announced shortly and the medals for these and the League will be presented in O’Rioda’s Bar after the Championships. SUIR 3-DAY: Best of luck to the Tralee Manor West iBike, Moda Kingdom Endurance and Sean Lacey with Aqua Blue who are taking part in the Suir 3 Day International race this weekend. NOTHING FUNNY ABOUT HARLEQUINS WIN: North Kerry entertained Cork Harlequins at
Tralee Oyster Oval ground. Unfortunately North Kerry were down to nine players as two late withdrawals left no chance to find alternatives. Kerry fielded first with their back on form bowlers got significant swing and caused Harlequins a lot of problems. Michael Pickett took 3 wickets for 23 runs and Paul Wyer 3 for31 with deceptive pace and bounce. Harlequins scored 208 for 8. North Kerry again showed more batting resilience Wyers best score (49 not out) and Ali Shah (29) were the biggest contributors in their final score of142. WEATHER BEHAVES FOR SWIMS: With the weather cooperating the Tralee Bay Swimming Club managed to two of their swims rescheduled. The Dominic Walsh Photography sponsored Donald Walsh Memorial Swim was first up with nearly 80 swimmers taking part. The swimmers along with the spectators all enjoyed the BBQ afterwards. The much coveted Donald Walsh Perpetual Shield was won by Michael O’Connell who had the fastest time overall with the Trophy going to Sandra Byrne. The results in the 3 groups saw Group C going to Leanne McCarthy followed by Paudie McQuinn and Bridget Moore. Group B was won by Sandra Byrne with Mairead Fox and Maura Hayes next while in Group A Rose Browne took the win from Martin O’Regan and Stephen Reidy. The weather was not as good for the Brendan O’Callaghan Cup with the more experienced swimmers coping better over the 1500m in windy and rainy conditions. The Cup dates back to 1952 and Brendan re-donated it to the club in 2007. On the night the winner of the Cup for 2016 was Nicola Moore with the Group winners being: Group A Neil Fitzgibbon, Cillian Tierney and Stephen Reidy. Group B went to John OSullivan , Mags O’Sullivan and Sandra Byrne with Group C to Nicola Moore , John Quilter and Jackle Rutledge . With 3 swims left in the Swimmer of the Year Competition Sandra Byrne leads by 2 points. She is on 14 with Elaine Burrows Dillane and Sinead Kelliher both on 12. Stephen Reidy is the top male with 26 swimmers still capable of getting enough points to win The World Series. Next up is the Lighthouse Swim and BBQ which is set for August 4th. ON THE GREENS: Tralee: In the President’s Prize Alan Kelly was the winner from Bernard Costello Jr and David Hennebery in 3rd. The Past Presidents Prize was won by David Reen with the Best Student being won by Rory Doyle. Ciaran Murphy was the winning Guest while Liam Hussy won the Senior section and Brian Sheehy the 9 hole senior section. In the Seniors Joe McCarthy took the spoils from Terry Egan and Michael Moynihan.
