WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... TRALEE PHOTOGRAPHER SNAPS HISTORY IN THE MAKING Top Kerry photographer John Cleary has a keen eye for catching day to day life in Kerry and has now produced some of his stunning images in his second book which is set to take Kerry by storm. Through the Lens, the first best selling book of photographs by the Tralee based photographer from his extensive archives, featured more than 500 black and white images taken in the 1970s featuring communities, groups, sporting occasions and events all over Kerry. His new book, T’was Only Like Yesterday, is a 225 page publication featuring more than 300 black and white images depicting life in Kerry back in the 1980’s. The book will be launched in the Imperial Hotel, Denny Street, Tralee on Tuesday night 14th of November at 7.30pm by Radio Kerry presenter and journalist Deirdre Walsh. John Cleary had been involved in photography for the past 50 years as a wedding photographer, capturing more
than 2,150 happy couples on their special day, and as an established press photographer. “Life can be a rollercoaster for many people, however for a photographer they have a unique place in Kerry sporting and cultural folklore. I have been honoured and privileged to have been part of so many happy and indeed sad occasions. I have made lifelong friends in the process and I wanted to share my love of photography and the images I snapped with the wider public,” said John. “Naturally Tralee features prominently in my archives. It’s a pictorial history of Tralee, Kerry and its people. Photographs to catch the eye include GAA teams, sports images, community groups, youth groups and a mixture of images from all over Kerry. This new book will bring people on an amazing photographic journey as they seek out family and friends in the hundreds of quality photographs scattered through this publication. The
response to my first book was phenomenal and I expect the reaction to this book to be even better.”

BANNA MOTOR RALLY ON THIS SUNDAY! Kerry Motor Club will host its annual Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Rally on Sunday with over 80 cars expected to take to the start line of the popular end of season rally. Contested over six special stages in Ardfert area of North Kerry where recent farming activity is expected to make the going very slippery in places, ensuring this running of the event will be as challenging as ever. If ever one family could lay claim to ownership of a rally, then the Cronins of Ballylickey in West Cork have a strongcase for such a claim. Denis and his nephews Keith and Daniel have eight titles between them. Top seed is last year’s winner Daniel Cronin, surprisingly in a Mitsubishi Lancer E10 and not his usual Ford Fiesta R5. He and co-driver, local man Shane Buckley, will hoping to equal Keith previous hattrick on the event after previously taking the title in 2014 in a Subaru Impreza World Rally 6

Car. Another former winner on the entry list is local hero and 2013 victor Mike Quinn and Tony Healy in their potent 2.4 Escort Mk2. The Kerry Motor Club crew, apart from overall honours, will be chasing the Donal O’Flaherty Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the top club crew driving at two-wheel-drive car. Former Billy Coleman award winner Stuart Darcy has entered in his newly acquired Darrien T90GTR and could be a force to be reckoned with if the roads stay dry. Local man Tim Enright is in pole position to take the Top Part West Coast Championship in his Ford Escort, to record his first major rally title in over ten years of rallying. Tom Relihan and Maurice McElligott are two more members of Kerry Motor Club capable of a top result and will also be in the running for the Donal O’Flaherty Cup. Friday 10th November 2017
The rally is all about debuts too, with many of the entry making their first foray into stage rallying. Tralee man Daniel Chung is the current KMC Autosolo champion but Sunday’s event is his first rally in a newly acquired Honda Civic. Ardfert man Jakes Kelly is a previous winner of the event, as a co driver, and while he has driven rally cars on events in the past, this is his first
time tackling his home event. Meanwhile Katie Quinn, daughter of 2013 winner Mick, will contest her second rally in another Civic. The rally starts from just outside the Banna Beach Hotel at 9.20am on Sunday morning, before a short service halt on the sea front in Ballyheigue a short -time later. Ahead lie six fast but demanding stages in the north Kerry area before a 1530 finish at the hotel later that evening.

BALLYHEIGUE STRICTLY WAS A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!
It was clear that ‘Ballyheigue GAA Strictly Come Dancing 2017’ at the ‘Ballyroe Heights Hotel’ on Saturday night was going to be an epic occasion with a large crowd forming at 6pm well in advance of doors opening at 7pm. Standing room only soon became the order of the evening and patrons looked forward with great anticipation to a brilliant night of entertainment. Proceedings got underway with all dancers strutting their stuff to the Kenny Loggins classic, ‘Footloose.’ It was then the turn of the couples to show the audience their well-honed skills. It was apparent from the outset that a massive amount of effort had been put in by the dancers
under the watchful eye of their Choreographer Joe Burkett. Those in the audience were treated to an outstanding night of entertainment and it was clear that the Judges Sharon Phelan, Danny Leane, John Brassil, TD & Mary O’Donnell would have a difficult task in selecting the winning couple. The first prize was based on the public vote and the winners in this category were Brendan Moriarty and Theresa Gaynor who wowed the audience with their waltz. The excitement was then palpable as MC Brian Hurley opened the second golden envelope to reveal Pa O’Regan and Elaine O’Donoghue as the Judge’s winning couple. Pa and Elaine had performed
‘The Charleston.’ It was then time to let the hair down as competitors and patrons partied into the small hours. Many thanks to all sponsors and patrons who supported ‘Ballyheigue GAA Strictly

BANNA WINTER STAGES RALLY 2017 Kerry Motor Club will host its annual Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Rally on Sunday with over 80 cars expected to take to the start line of the popular end of season rally. He and co-driver, local man Shane Buckley, will hoping to equal Keith previous hattrick on the event after previously taking the title in 2014 in a Subaru Impreza World Rally Car. Another former winner on the entry list is local hero and 2013 victor Mike Quinn and Tony Healy in their potent 2.4 Escort Mk2. The Kerry Motor Club crew, apart from overall honours, will be chasing the Donal O’Flaherty Memorial
Trophy, awarded annually to the top club crew driving at two-wheel-drive car. Limerick’s Ed O’Callaghan arrives in Kerry in fine form after finishing second on the recent Garda Rally in Baltinglass and he has Ardfert’s Keith McCarthy on pacenote duty. His Limerick neighbour Ed Synan has competed on nearly every Banna rally since the early 1990s and he is back for another go with local man Denis O’Connell on the notes. His nearest rival is former champion Shane Maguire in a Mitsubishi Lancer E9 but once there are 16 registered crews between Maguire and Enright at the end of the event the title will stay in County Kerry. Tom Relihan and Maurice McElligott are two more members of Kerry Motor Club capable of a top result and will also be in the running for the
Donal O’Flaherty Cup. The rally is all about debuts too, with many of the entry making their first foray into stage rallying. Tralee man Daniel Chung is the current KMC Autosolo champion but Sunday’s event is his first rally in a newly acquired Honda Civic. David Griffin, synonymous with the organisational side of rallying in Kerry over the last 20 years are another newcomer to take on the challenge in a historic-spec Toyota Corolla. Ardfert man Jakes Kelly is a previous winner of the event, as a codriver, and while he has driven rally cars on events
in the past, this is his first time tackling his home event.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: BETTER ENERGY HOMES SCHEME NOVEMBER 2017 Question Our heating bills are quite high because our house is difficult to heat. Is there a grant available to improve the insulation? Answer The Better Energy Homes Scheme provides grants to homeowners to improve energy efficiency in their homes. It is also available to landlords and owners of more than one property. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) administers the scheme. You can use the Home Energy Self Survey on the SEAI website to identify areas in your home that could be improved to increase energy efficiency. You can also get a Building Energy Rating (BER) done if you are uncertain about your energy-saving options or what work to get done first. Grants are available for roof insulation, wall insulation, upgrade of heating controls, high-efficiency boiler installation and solar heating. You can also get a grant to have a BER done after the energy-saving work is carried out. To qualify for a grant, you must: own a dwelling built before 2006; use a contractor from SEAI’s registered list; use newly fitted materials and products; have work done that complies with the required standards; have a BER carried out after the works are done and use a BER assessor from SEAI’s National Register. You must have grant approval before you buy materials or start work. Grants for qualifying measures range from a maximum of €300 for attic or cavity wall insulation to a maximum of €4,500 for external wall insulation on a detached house. Grants are paid after the work is completed and you have paid your contractor. If you get three qualifying measures done, a bonus of €300 is payable on top of the grants. (A BER doesn’t count as a measure for this bonus.) A further €100 is payable on completion of a fourth measure. See seai.ie for full details of grants and bonuses.
Níamh Leen & Patrice Diggin (Kerry Camogie) who were in attendance in Citywest,Dublin on Saturday last . The girls were nominated for the Soaring Stars Awards 2017 but were unsuccessful on the night .
If you are also claiming a tax credit under the Home Renovation Incentive, the amount of expenditure that qualifies for the credit will be reduced. You can contact SEAI at 1850 927 000 or info@betterenergyhomes.ie.

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2017
Sweet November!
It’s not often I do desserts here on my recipes page. Here are some delicious chocolate desserts for you to try. Always use the best chocolate possible. Enjoy, Enjoy! You will find all the back recipes on www.traleeculinarygangsters.com plus loads more.
NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE-PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES INGREDIENTS • • • •
4 cups sweetened puffed-corn cereal like Corn Pops (4 ounces) 4 large peanut butter cups (3 ounces) 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter About 3/4 cup chocolate sprinkles
METHOD In a food processor, grind 3 cups of the corn cereal to a powder. Add the peanut butter cups and peanut butter and process until the mixture is glossy and comes together, about 2 minutes. Add the remaining 1 cup of corn cereal and process until very finely chopped and the mixture just holds together; you should still see small flecks of cereal. Roll the mixture into a 9-inch log and wrap in plastic. Roll the log back and forth until smooth. Unwrap the log and spread the chocolate sprinkles on the plastic wrap. Roll the log in the sprinkles, pressing to help them adhere. Wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes. Cut the log into 18 pieces and roll the edges in any leftover sprinkles. Serve. Make Ahead The sliced cookies can be refrigerated for up to 5 days
DOUBLE-CHOCOLATE PUDDING • • • • • • • • • • •
2 1/4 cups milk 1/2 cup sugar Pinch of salt 2 tablespoons cornstarch 3 tablespoons cocoa powder 1 large egg 2 large egg yolks 5 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped 2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Lightly whipped cream, for serving
METHOD
In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of the milk with 1/4 cup of the sugar and the salt and bring to a boil over moderate heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from the heat. In a medium bowl, whisk the cornstarch with the unsweetened cocoa powder and the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar until blended. Add the remaining 1/4 cup of milk and whisk until smooth. Whisk this mixture into the hot milk in the saucepan and bring to a boil over moderate heat, whisking constantly. Reduce the heat to moderately low and simmer, whisking constantly, until the pudding is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 2 minutes. In a medium bowl, whisk the whole egg with the egg yolks. Gradually whisk about 1 cup of the hot cocoa pudding into the eggs until thoroughly incorporated, then scrape the pudding back into the saucepan. Cook the pudding over moderate heat, whisking constantly, until it just comes to boil, about 2 minutes. Strain the pudding into a medium heatproof bowl. Add the chopped chocolate, butter and vanilla and whisk until the chocolate and butter are melted and incorporated and the pudding is smooth, about 2 minutes. Transfer the pudding to six 6-ounce ramekins and fridge until chilled. Serve with lightly whipped cream. Recipes by Make Ahead The chocolate pudding can be covered and in the fridge for up to 4 days

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A FANTASTIC WEEK It’s no secret I love makeup. I love full glam, lashes, highlight that you can see from space and eyeshadow blended to perfection. But working as a Makeup Artist can take a toll on my skin! I really make an effort to take care of my skin and maybe not wear makeup on my days off, and by maybe I mean I’m completely barefaced. I always cleanse my skin twice a day with my Clarisonic and make sure my skin is completely clean going to bed but I still feel sometimes my skin needs a break. So this week I’m going to share my top tips on My Makeup Detox. STILL CLEANSE - Even when you’re not wearing makeup, you still need to cleanse tone and moisturise your skin every morning and night. There is dirt everywhere and that dirt will build up on your skin if you don’t clean it. WATER WATER WATER - Staying hydrated is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your skin. You could use the most expensive products in the world but if you’re not drinking enough water your skin will look dull and dehydrated.
FACEMASK IT UP - There’s no better feeling than my skin after a facemask. Although I would like to say I do one once a week, I don’t. When choosing a facemask, make sure to choose one that will suit your skin type. If you have dry skin, choose a hydrating mask such as the Glam Glow Thirstymud. If you have acne prone skin, choose a clarifying mask such as the Origins Clear Improvement Mask. If you want luminous skin choose the Lancôme Advanced Genifique mask. My tried and trusted facemask brands include, GlamGlow, Lancôme, Clarins, Trilogy and Origins, yes there are no “drugstore” brands in there simply because in my line of work we’re taught to take good care of our skin so I feel you get what you pay for in most cases. Not saying I spend a fortune on skincare but I definitely spend that bit extra. Obviously some of the cheaper priced brands are decent, but just make sure to do a bit of research before using them. Your skin will thank you. GET A FACIAL - If you’ve never had a facial and are looking to treat yourself, I would highly recommend it. Also if you have no idea about products or what skin type you

HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!
This weekend the first week of a new Nutrition Class I started attending in The Brandon Gym with Coach Aaron from Succeed Nutrition. The class is on every week for 6 weeks and aims to teach about all things Nutrition and health. The first class was great! Very informative but not too much information for the first class, a nice introduction. We learned about what nutrition and Food are and why we need food. We also discussed topics such as eating breakfast, intermittent fasting as well as a protein cake recipe! I really enjoyed the first class and am excited for the next one, I’ll update you more on that next week! To see more from Aaron check out his Facebook page ‘Succeed Nutrition’. Recently I wanted to begin
training my upper body more as I have a tendency to focus on my lower body a tad bit too much. So I started introducing an upper body split recommended by @gracefituk in one of her YouTube videos. The split looks like this… Bicep Curls Hammer Curls
so I do 10-12 Bicep Curls followed directly by 10-12 Hammer Curls and then rest for 60 seconds and repeat 3-5 times. And I do the same with all of the other movements. I just have to remind myself it’s important to train all bodyparts and to not just focus on glutes!

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A BLONDE AND HER HUSBAND ARE WATCHING THE NEWS...
News: A Brazilian man died while skydiving when his parachute didn’t open. The blonde bursts into tears Husband (comforting her): I know it’s sad, but people need to know that there’s a risk while skydiving. Blonde: But that’s a lot of people. How many is a Brazilian?
A HUSBAND AND WIFE WERE HAVING DINNER AT A FINE RESTAURANT WHEN AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING YOUNG WOMAN COMES OVER TO THEIR TABLE, GIVES THE HUSBAND A BIG KISS... Tells him she’ll see him later, and walks away. His wife glares at him and says, “Who was that??!!” “Oh,” replies the husband, “that was my mistress.” The wife says, “That’s it; I want a divorce.” “I understand,” replies her husband, “but remember, if you get a divorce, there will be no more shopping trips to Paris, Milan or Tokyo, no wintering in the Caribbean, no Lexus in the garage, and no more country club. But... the decision is yours.” Just then the wife notices a mutual friend entering the restaurant with a gorgeous woman on his arm. “Who’s that woman with Jim?” she asks. “That’s his mistress,” replies her husband. “Oh!!,” says the wife, “... Ours is prettier.”
WHAT ONE WORD REALLY MAKES A WOMAN OPEN UP AND WANT TO TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING ON THEIR MIND? Goodnight.”

DO YOU DRINK BEER?
Woman: Do you drink beer? Man: Yes. Woman: How many beers a day? Man: Usually about three. Woman: How much do you pay per beer? Man: $5.00 which includes a tip. Woman: And how long have you been drinking? Man: About 20 years, I suppose. Woman: So a beer costs $5 and you have three beers a day which puts your spending each month at $450. In one year, it would be approximately $5400 - correct? Man: Correct. Woman: If in one year you spend $5400, not accounting for inflation, the past 20 years puts your spending at $108,000 correct? Man: Correct. Woman: Do you know that if you didn’t drink so much beer, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 20 years, you could have now bought an airplane? Man: Do you drink beer? Woman: No. Man: Where’s your airplane?
A HUSBAND AND WIFE WERE DRIVING THROUGH LOUISIANA.
As they approached Natchitoches, they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town. They argued back and forth, then they stopped for lunch. At the counter, the husband asked the blonde waitress, “Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us? Would you please pronounce where we are very slowly?” She leaned over the counter and said, “Burrr-gerrr Kiiing.”

TORQUING CARS! WORLD’S FIRST DENT-PROOF CAR WOWS CROWDS AT TOKYO MOTOR SHOW
A concept car equipped with external airbags to protect against fender benders is raising eyebrows at the Tokyo Motor Show. The body panels of the Flesby II ultra-compact vehicle are covered by a soft, next-generation rubber that can absorb the impact of a collision.“We put airbags, which are mainly employed inside the car, on its exterior, such as its hood or fender, to protect the entire body,” Takashi Ishikawa, managing officer of Toyoda Gosei, said on Wednesday. Toyoda Gosei, a manufacturer of rubber and plastic automotive parts and LEDs, came up with the idea for the concept car in 2013.The company said on its website the rubber is able to move with electric power and change the shape of the car body.LED lights projected onto the rubber also allow the driver to communicate with pedestrians and other vehicles, the company said. “In the event of contact with a pedestrian, the soft body serves a safety function in absorbing the impact,” the company said. The company hopes to introduce Flesby II by 2030.
RANGE ROVER 2018 LINE-UP FEATURES PLUG-IN HYBRID WITH 398BHP
Land Rover has released the first details and images of the 2018 model year Range Rover, which includes a new plug-in petrol-electric version of its flagship car.The plug-in model, called the P400e PHEV, comes with headline figures of 398bhp and 472lb ft of torque, along with 101mpg in the NEDC Combined economy cycle and 64g/km of CO2. Range Rover claims an electric-only range of 31 miles, with a rapid charging time of 2 hours and 45 minutes. As well as an 85kW electric motor, this car also has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with 296bhp. Land Rover claims 0-60mph in 6.4sec and a top speed of 137mph.Other powertrains include a 3.0-litre V6 diesel with 254bhp and a 4.4-litre V8 diesel developing 334bhp There are also new alloy wheel designs and body colours. Further customisation is provided by exterior styling packs, with either glossy black or Shadow Atlas (grey) highlights throughout. Other features include a range of LED headlights, with 24 LEDs standard and up to 144 on top-spec versions. Inside, Land Rover claims improved comfort, including front seats with up to 24-way movement thanks to the new seat frames, with wider and deeper foams as well as heated armrests. There are also up to 17 connection points including domestic plug sockets, USB, HDMI and 12-volt, along with 4G Wi-Fi hotspots for up to eight devices.Comfort features include heated and cooled seats, plus heated arm, foot and calf rests. All seat functionality can be controlled via a smartphone app, whether inside or outside the vehicle. Rapid charging of the 13.1kWh lithium-ion battery is claimed to take 2 hours 45 minutes using a dedicated domestic 32amp wall box. The battery can be fully charged in 7 hours 30 minutes using the 10amp home charging cable. To alleviate fears of battery degradation, the P400e’s is covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile, 70 per cent state of health warranty.
CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED THE PRICE OF LOYALTY
My much-loved 2010/60 Mazda6 Sport D 180 hatchback has done 87,000 miles. Am I likely to hit big bills if I keep it? TS THEY can have DPF regeneration problems. This dumps diesel into the sump, where it mixes with the lubricating oil to form sludge that blocks the oil strainer. I haven’t heard of this recently with the current models, however.
TWISTED LOGIC
I would like to tow my 1,850kg caravan with a 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 petrol auto cabriolet. There is provision for a tow-bar and most makes can fit. However, my caravan expert pal says it is not a good idea to tow with a convertible as it can twist the chassis. Is he correct? PA HJ . You’re asking for trouble. The Caravan Club says a car should tow no more than 85 per cent of its own weight and your car is 120kg lighter than what you are proposing to pull.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR PUT IN THE WORK AND THE REWARDS WILL COME! Last weekend was a great weekend for Cork City with the men’s team completing the double – something not done for over 50 years. But it was the success of the Cork City Women’s team in winning the Continental Tyres FAI Senior Cup that I think was the real story. When Cork City Women’s team joined the Women’s National League they lost every game in their first season and then in the second they drew two games. Following cooperation from the men’s side of the club and some shrewd signings things improved dramatically and now they are the Cup champions. There is no doubt that women’s sports does not get anywhere near the funding of the men’s sports. The women certainly put in as much effort at the elite level as the men do. However they do not draw the same crowds so those giving out the funding have this as an excuse. But the Cork City model shows that if a squad puts in the hard work and the structures behind the scenes are right then success will come. From a Kerry soccer point of view firstly will we ever have a League of Ireland senior women’s team from the county. Why not? Who would have thought a few years ago that we would have u15’s and u17’s boy’s teams with the possibility of u13’s and 19’s in the coming season or two? The number of girls playing the game at underage level is rising massively year on year so now the challenge for those in the administrative side is to keep this growth and give them outlets at junior level to have a Women’s League. If we can do this then the game will continue to grow and there is no reason why those starting out now cannot look forward to playing in the League of Ireland like the boys. It must be said also that there will be an u17’s Women’s League of Ireland starting next season so Kerry will be looking to have a team in that over the next few years. On the National stage results have been excellent at both senior and underage level with Colin Bell’s senior side having won both their opening World Cup qualifying games while underage

squads continue to qualify for championships and Elite phases of their age groups. Moving away from soccer and the women’s game in the GAA is also very strong with a record crowd at their All Ireland finals this year. I am sure the Kerry Ladies lot has improved over the last few years as well. But I remember a time when they had to fundraise themselves before an All Ireland final and Mort Murphy and myself ran a table quiz from them. Somehow I can’t see Eamonn Fitzmaurice coming to me at any time to do a quiz for the men’s team! Looking at Ladies rugby on a national level and what should have been a huge highlight for their sport, with the staging of the World Cup in Dublin and Belfast, turned into a nightmare. A poor performance that some will say started with the management and coaching set-up left them 8th and having to qualify for the next time. Is this the reason that the IRFU is now looking for a part time coach for the team? I cannot see to many top coaches rushing to take up a six month job and neither can I ever see Joe Smidth or his successors being offered a six month contract. Locally the women’s game in those clubs that have female teams is strong and underage there is a big increase on girls playing the game. Of course the pinnacle of women’s sport in the country is Katie Taylor, now World Champion, who has also come from adversity and from a time where she trained in a gym with no toilet facilities. There are a number of top female cyclists winning medals at an international level and again at local level the number of underage cycling in clubs is on a huge upward trajectory with many more girls now joining up. So there is a huge amount of work being down in all women’s sports – yes they are still the ‘poor relation’ in some aspects but things are certainly improving. And results and standards are bearing this out. So if you are a sports fan and see a girl’s or women’s game in your area and you have never been then the next time go along. I bet you will enjoy it and they will enjoy your support. In a time where so many stories of women being treated appallingly are coming to
Friday 10th November 2017
the surface let’s make sport a place where everyone is treated equally and we will all enjoy watching top class sporting contests whichever gender is taking part. OH I DO LOVE TO RALLY BY THE SEA SIDE! If ever one family could lay claim to ownership of a rally, then the Cronins of Ballylickey in West Cork have a strong-case for such a claim. Denis and his nephews Keith and Daniel have eight titles between them. Top seed is last year’s winner Daniel Cronin, surprisingly in a Mitsubishi Lancer E10 and not his usual Ford Fiesta R5. He and co-driver, local man Shane Buckley, will hoping to equal Keith’s previous hat trick on the event after previously taking the title in 2014 in a Subaru Impreza World Rally Car. Former Billy Coleman award winner Stuart Darcy has entered in his newly acquired Darrien T90GTR and could be a force to be reckoned with if the roads stay dry. Local man Tim Enright is in pole position to take the Top Part West Coast Championship in his Ford Escort, to record his first major rally title in over ten years
of rallying. His nearest rival is former champion Shane Maguire in a Mitsubishi Lancer E9 but once there are 16 registered crews between Maguire and Enright at the end of the event the title will stay in County Kerry. Tom Relihan and Maurice McElligott are two more members of Kerry Motor Club capable of a top result and will also be in the running for the Donal O’Flaherty Cup. Ardfert man Jakes Kelly is a previous winner of the event, as a co-driver, and while he has driven rally cars on events in the past, this is his first time tackling his home event. TRACK NEWS: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there is the final of the Track Supporters Club A4 525 yards and the semi- finals of the Track supporters A3 525 yards stake. The Red Mills unraced bitch stake that was due to start this Friday night but has been put back a week due to a shortage of entries. It is hoped to run it on Friday November 10th. The track is taking entries for the T Nolans CVRT Test Centre Kingdom Derby for 36 open class greyhounds with first rounds on Friday Dec 1st. There is no racing on Saturday nights November 11th and 18th ( Saturday morning racing goes ahead as normal) but will open downstairs on Saturday November 18th to allow patrons watch all the action from night of stars at Shelbourne Park with tote facilities available. COURSING ACTION: The coursing action this weekend’s turns to Listowel while the action moves onto Ballyduff the following weekend. ALL ACES AT THE TENNIS CLUB: There was a great attendance at the Halloween Camp at the Tralee Tennis Club. The weather certainly helped to ensure there was some great tennis played over the three days which were rounded off by a very enjoyable tournament. Well done to the winners Ronan Clancy and Cian Caplis and runners up

AWARDS FOR LIAM AND MARK BUT LOSS FOR WARRIORS: The Elite Performance Committee at Basketball Ireland (EPC) has announced the appointment of Liam Culloty as the new head coach for the Ireland Under 17 women’s development squad. Liam was with Tralee Imperials Girls during most of their short ruin in the League and also has international experience in the form of Head Coach to the u18 women’s team that took eight place in the FIBA Under 18 Women’s European Championship Division B. Speaking about the news, the Kerry man stated: “I’m thrilled to be back working with an international programme and I’m very excited to get started working with a big group of talented players. I’m really looking forward to it, and there’s going to be a lot of development over the coming months.” Garvey’s Tralee Warriors head coach, Mark Bernsen, has won the Super League Coach of the Month after leading his team to an unbeaten run of four games in the league during October which SAW them move to the top of the table. GARVEY’S TRALEE WARRIORS 63-82 UCD MARIAN: Fans of Garvey’s Tralee Warriors witnessed something unusual at the Complex last weekend when they suffered only their second ever home defeat. Rivals UCD Marian were to good for the Tralee side on the night meaning Garvey’s give up their place at the head of the SuperLeague. Despite a good start led by Kieran Donaghy it was the Dublin side that were ahead by 10 at the end of the first quarter leading 23-13. Pemberton, Donaghy and Fergal O’Sullivan had scores that the home crowd hoped would spark their side into life but UCD were scoring too freely and were 13 up at the break 44-31. Garveys needed a good start to the third quarter but UCD hit two three and the gap was out to 19. Tralee fought back and closed the gap to 11 points and it looked like a comeback could be on the cards. But that hope was short lived as UCD Marian were not going to let a win in the Kingdom slip away and they powered to this big win. For Warriors Trae Pemberton hit 18, Kieran Donaghy 15 and Fergal O’Sullivan 13. Next up for the Garvey’s Tralee Warriors another tough top of the table clash with Griffith Swords Thunder at the ALSAA in Dublin next Saturday evening with action getting underway at 6 o’clock.
A minute’s silence was held before this match in memory of Neptune and Ireland Under 18 star Liam Chandler, who sadly passed away at the weekend. Imperial’s 18’s Out: Tralee Imperials are out of the 18’s after going down to Dublin Lions who eventually were beaten by Killorglin KCYMS who have qualified for the knock-out stages. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS: In the Lee Strand u18 Division 2 Gneeveguilla were 70 points to 33 winners over St Brendan’s. The home side got off to the best start against a strong Gneeveguilla side that had won their opening game of the season. Despite the Tralee side leading 15-6 at the end of the first quarter the rest of the game was controlled by the East Kerry side who ran out comfortable winners. This is a busy week with fixtures at many ages as well as all teams training at their regular times. COMMUNITY GAMES AWARDS: Well done to Patsy O’Connell who was honoured for his contribution to Community Games in Kerry and he was the very deserving winner of the Paud O’Leary Memorial Trophy as the 2017 Volunteer Award. The Awards were presented at the annual celebration night and from a Tralee point of view St Brendan’s / Oakpark were the swimming Area Awards Winners while Spa Fenit/Barrow were 3rd in the Athletics section. CAMOGIE NEWS: All roads lead to Newmarket on Fergus this Sunday when Clanmaurice, representing Kerry take on Athleague from Roscommon in the All-Ireland Junior Club semi-final.
