WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... KCFE OPEN DAY NOT TO BE MISSED

Kerry College of Further Education (KCFE) offers the most comprehensive suite of full time further education courses in the county providing school leavers and adult learners with so much choice. The further education courses available in Tralee are nationally and internationally recognised offering training for quality employment and offering alternative access routes to both Universities and Institutes of Technology. Their Open Day is being held on Thursday 2nd March from 10am – 7pm and promises to answer all your questions on any of the fifty full-time courses available at the college. The day offers an opportunity to get a real sense of the college. An information stand on each course will allow you to find out all you need to know on each course. You will meet with the course co-ordinator and get a real feel for what the course is about. A campus tour will offer you the chance to view the facilities and services on offer. The college (which is run under the auspices of Kerry ETB) is based in Clash, Tralee and Carmel Kelly is the Acting Principal. There will be a warm welcome for you on the day.

INFORMATION EVENING FOR PARENTS OF SCHOOL LEAVERS If you are a parent or guardian of a school leaver next Wednesday 1st March is a date for your diary. Kerry’s largest provider of full-time further education courses, Kerry College of Further Education, Tralee, is hosting an event that is aimed at informing parents of options available to school leavers outside of CAO. Parents are often involved in the decision making process. With this in mind the college decided to provide an Information Evening specifically geared towards educating parents about the further education sector. The focus will be on how the courses at KCFE allow school leavers to access high point

third level courses at various Universities and Institutes of Technology throughout the country. Aswell as that parents will be given all the information they need on the extensive range of quality assured courses which qualify students to go directly into employment afterwards which is the goal of many school leavers. Guidance Counsellors around the county have been contacted via the Kerry Branch of IGC and informed of the event. It is important that parents know that their child’s future doesn’t depend wholly on the Leaving Cert. There are other ways for their son/daughter to get to where they want to be. The event takes place on Wednesday

1st March. The first talk will commence at 5.30pm sharp. Alternatively, parents can opt to attend the 7pm talk. There

will also be an Open Day held in the college the following day.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... LISTELLICK NATIONAL SCHOOL PRESENTS THEIR ‘WALK-A-MARATHON’ CHALLENGE On Monday 27th February pupils in Listellick National School will begin their ‘Walka-Marathon’ challenge. The Marathon will be launched in the school at 10am by Mr. Jimmy Deenihan, Chairperson of the Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership. This fitness promoting initiative will see the school become one of the first primary schools in Ireland to have all of its 200+ pupils completing either a full or half marathon in a noncompetitive and fun way.

To complete the ‘Walk-aMarathon’ challenge the children in senior classes will each walk/jog/run 1km a day for a total of 6 weeks, while the children in junior classes will complete 500m a day over the same period. This will be completed in school from Monday – Friday and continued at home on Saturday & Sunday, with parents & family all playing a part to help the children complete their challenge. School staff are keen to pass

on a positive health & fitness attitude in the pupils, building on health initiatives such as Food Dudes already running in the school. The children are undertaking this challenge not only to improve their fitness levels, but also to help raise funds to introduce further fitness initiatives and to purchase P.E. equipment. This unique challenge also provides the children with fantastic learning opportunities across the curriculum from history to

maths. The walk-a-marathon challenge will culminate in a week long ‘Active Schools Week, which will have the ‘grand finale’ of the challenge at the heart of it. To keep up to date with the children’s progress over the 6 week challenge you can log onto the school website www. listellickprimary.com

BUSINESS TIPS with

Act

Local ActionCOACH, Helen Burns answers your business questions “We have been operating our service business for over 15 years. We’ve tried taking on team members to make our business run better but we can’t seem to get good people. What should we do?.....” Frances & John Helen says …. There are five common mistakes in team building to avoid: 1. Hiring friends and family- Of course you love them and enjoy spending time with them but that doesn’t, mean you should hire them. They often see their job as a personal favour to you rather than their profes sional responsibility. 2. Owners doing every job they can – “saving a wage can cost a fortune”. The owner’s job is to work “on” the business not “in” it. They need to oversee the entire operation, not micro manage individual duties. The temptation is to try to do everything and fix every problem which disempowers team members. 3. Not having a proper hiring system in place. The days of a simple interview after reading a CV are gone. Hiring should be a process not a rush to get someone. The company is not practicing due diligence if they are not screening properly. 4. Failing to define the culture - Without this it is easy for team members to feel lost and unsure about their role in the business in general. Once there is a vision and mission statement, points of culture can be communicated to the team which will spell out what's acceptable and what's in it for them. 5. Letting problems fester- the best of teams will have conflict sometimes and it’s the owner’s respon sibility to deal with them as soon as possible. Have a grievance procedure, know what questions to ask and know your team members.

“We are delighted to be running our three month programme Action CLUB in Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee - Starting March 9th. TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)

Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology How can I get IPTV?

Billy says: IPTV, or internet TV, is a service that enables you to quickly access a wealth of video content and can be as easy to use as turning on your TV There is a world of entertainment out their if you have the right equipment. All you need is a good broadband connection and a device which can connect to your TV. You can use an android box with STB Emulator. But by far the device is a Mag254 which is designed for IPTV approx. Cost between €80 - €100 euro You must also subscribe to a service online to receive channels. I would always advise you to pay monthly because service providers come and go. Vodafone and Eir also provide a IPTV Service. The advantage of IPTV is there is no need of a Satellite Dish or Aerial.

How do I keep my laptop battery in good health?

Billy says: All laptop batteries are built to handle a certain number of usage cycles, estimated roughly around 500, and often more. Each cycle of use decreases the battery’s capacity, so the less you drain it, the longer it’ll last — all other things being equal so when you are using your laptop plugged in, it is a good idea to remove it. Never let your battery discharge fully. Heat breaks down the battery, and reduces its overall life. When you use your laptop, make sure the vents are unblocked. Never work with the laptop on pillows or cushions. If possible, put it on a raised stand that allows for plenty of airflow.

Bexblah Beauty

This page is sponsored by Munster Robes & Kitchens

HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS! I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A FANTASTIC WEEK!

There are SO many beauty products being released all the time, so this week I’m going to talk about upcoming and recent makeup releases that I’m super excited about! GIORGIO ARMANI POWER FABRIC FOUNDATION Everyone knows I live for the Luminous Silk foundation but I wish it had a teeny bit more coverage so the Power Fabric should be right up my street. I also just watched Jeffree Star’s video on it and yes, it is Jeffree Star approved! I’m absolutely dying to try this, it is on the more pricey side so you know I’m heading straight to Brown Thomas to get a sample first because ain ‘t nobody got time for spending money on foundation that doesn’t work. I recommend this for any high end foundation you want to buy, GET A SAMPLE FIRST.

KYLIE COSMETICS KYLIGHTERS If you know me you know I’m a huge fan of Kylie Cosmetics so when she announced her Kylighters yesterday I died. She is bringing out 6 gorgeous shades Tuesday 28th February and I will be trying my best to get my hands on one. ANASTASIA BEVERLY HIILS X NICOLE GUERRIERO GLOW KIT More highlighters! I have been obsessssed with Nicole Guerriero for a hot minute now and Anastasia Beverly Hills makeup is amazing so naturally I need this palette. You can never have enough glow honey. They’re launching March 3rd on AnastasiaBeverlyHills.com, you’re welcome.

STILA MAGNIFICENT METALS GLITTER & GLOW LIQUID EYESHADOW I saw these on Amrezy’s snapchat and OH MY GOD. I NEED THEM. I have been looking for something like these for ages because I’m sick to death of mixing pigments with duraline. They’re also priced at a very reasonable €26 on Beauty Bay or I’m nearly sure Sam MacCauley’s in Manor has a Stila counter if you want to head there and try them out.

So that’s it for this week! Hope you all enjoyed this week’s light hearted post! Have a great weekend and I’ll be back here next week with more beauty related goodness! If you want to contact me for an event, collaboration or just to say hi you can email me at Bexblahbeauty@gmail.com or through any social media, FACEBOOK: Bexblah Beauty, TWITTER: @Bexblah, INSTAGRAM: @Bexblah. FITNESS!

Hello my strong strong friends! I hope you’re all having a fantastic week! Also, we all know what next Tuesday is…. PANCAKE TUESDAY! I am a sucker for pancakes, I love them with Nutella & strawberries(my current rest day breakfast) Just because you are working out and watching what you eat doesn’t mean you can’t have yummy pancakes! Here are two separate recipes that I like to use, one is higher carb for training days, and the other is higher in fat and protein for non training days, both are delicious! Although I do prefer the training day ones better cause they’re fluffier. TRAINING DAY PANCAKES: serves one. 40g oats 1 egg 50g egg whites Vanilla extract Almond milk - 1 or 2 tbsp as needed.

22

TRALEE ADVERTISER

Blend the oats into a powder consistency in a nutri bullet or something similar. Add all the other ingredients and mix well. Cook as normal using extra virgin olive oil. NON TRAINING DAY PANCAKES: 100g egg whites 1 large egg 20g protein powder 2 tsp chia seeds Blend all of the ingredients in a blender. Cook as normal in extra virgin olive oil.

MY FAVOURITE TOPPINGS: Bacon medallions/turkey rashers & myprotein syrup. 25grams of Nutella and strawberries.

Of course you can eat the training day pancakes on a non training day too! It all depends on your macros, but then again it’s Pancake Tuesday so do macros even count? I don’t think so! Enjoy & never feel guilty about food!

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A BUS FILLED WITH POLITICIANS WAS DRIVING ON ....

... The country road on campaign trail. Suddenly on a turn the bus veered off and hit a tree with great force. A farmer nearby rushed in, and seeing the scattered bodies proceeded to bury them with dignity. Police arrived in few hours and proceeded to question the farmer. Police: “Good deed you did there. So all of them died huh?” Farmer: “ You know how these politicians are. Some of them kept lying that they were alive but I’ll be damned if I believed them again”

KIM JONG-UN & DONALD TRUMP

Kim Jong-un announced in a news conference that North Korea would be sending a man to the sun within ten years! A reporter said - “But the sun is very hot. How can your man land on the sun?” There was a stunned silence. Nobody knew how to react. Then Kim Jong-un quietly answered “We will land at night”. The entire audience broke out in thunderous applause! Back in the White House, Donald Trump and his entourage were watching the news conference on TV. When Trump heard what Kim had said, he sneered “What an idiot. There is no sun at night time !” Now, his cabinet broke up in thunderous applause

DORM RULES

On the first day of college, the Dean addressed the students, pointing out some of the rules. “The female dormitory will be out-of-bounds for all male students, and the male dormitory to the female students. Anybody caught breaking this rule will be fined $20 the first time.” He continued, “Anybody caught breaking this rule the second time will be fined $60. Being caught a third time will incur a hefty fine of $180. Are there any questions?” At this point, a male student in the crowd

That means that, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon! Makes you damned proud to be an American.

HUSBAND’S AND WIFE’S DIARIES......

Wife’s Diary: Tonight, I thought Bob was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long; and I was a little late for our “date.” Conversation wasn’t flowing, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late; but he made no comment on it.So I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn’t say much. I asked him what was wrong; He said, ‘Nothing.’ I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said he wasn’t upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it. On the way home, I told him that I loved him. He smiled slightly, and kept driving. I can’t explain his behavior I don’t know why he didn’t say, ‘I loveyou, too.’ When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent. Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed.But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep - I cried. I don’t know what to do. I’m almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster. Husband’s Diary: Boat wouldn’t start, can’t figure it out.

TORQUING CARS! JENSON BUTTON’S 205MPH FORD GT EXPECTED TO SELL FOR £250,000

AFord GT supercar formerly owned by Formula 1 driver Jenson Button MBE is for sale at auction next week when it is estimated to sell for £250,000 to £300,000. The Ford GT was advanced for its day, employing an aluminium chassis clothed in superplastic-formed composite and aluminium body panels. Button’s car was finished in a Le Mans 24 Hours-inspired colour scheme of white with blue stripes - the machine closely resembled Ford’s Le Mans-winning GT40 racers. Powered by a mid-mounted, hand-built, supercharged quad-cam 550bhp V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual transaxle and featuring racing-derived suspension and braking systems, the GT accelerates from 0-60mph in 3.5sec, with a maximum of 205mph before the speed limiter kicks in. This car was acquired by the current owner in 2011 and has covered only 8,350 miles. It will be supplied with a history file including stamps and invoices from Mountune and two services by Ford GT expert GT101, as well as copies of the order form signed by Button. The ex-Button Ford GT will be offered during Silverstone Auctions’ sale at the Race Retro historic racing and rallying show taking place at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire on February 24-26. The Race Retro show also includes the Bentley Speed 8, believed to be valued at £10 million, in which Tom Kristensen won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003. Kristensen, the most successful driver ever at Le Mans, will be present.

NEW DISCOVERY DUE HERE NEXT MONTH TO COST FROM €57,800

Land Rover’s new Discovery will cost from €57,815 when it goes on sale in Ireland next month. That’s for the 2.0 TD4 ‘S’ spec 5-seater (€570 road tax). Probably more representative for buyers will be the SE version from €64,665. HSE trim costs from €71,885 with HSE Lux kicking off from €80,890. The SD4 versions start at €63,215. If you want a 7-seater, the first one on the price list is the 2.0 SD4 S which begins at €71,700. And the 3-litre range begins with the 3.0 TDV6 SE 7 -seater (€750 tax) at €78,595. It’s a much lighter vehicle now and there’s more cabin space. Standard spec includes 8spd auto transmission, 8in touchscreen, Land Rover sound system (6 speakers), iPod connectivity, AM/FM, AUX input, colour TFT message centre, Hill Descent Control/off-road ABS, Hill Launch Assist, acoustic windscreen, rear fogs, manual tailgate, cruise control, Trailer Stability Assist etc. With the emphasis on this being a ‘family SUV’ both third-row seats in the 7-seater have ISOFIX mounting points (five in total). They claim there are 2,500 litres of luggage plus storage spaces through the cabin. The extra cabin room stems from an increase in wheelbase - the car itself is 4.97m long. And in place of the old split rear-tailgate you get a big ‘door’ and ‘inner’ tailgate. Ground clearance is up 43mm (283mm) while the multi-mode Terrain Response 2 system works across a range of settings.(Indo Motoring )

BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT SUPERSPORTS – A 700BHP, 209MPH ASSAULT-YACHT Fourteen years after it made its debut and thanks to this new Supersports model, the Bentley Continental GT leaves this world as the fastest four seat car you can buy. With a top speed of 209mph, not even Ferrari’s GTC4 Lusso is quite so ridiculously rapid. The mere fact that the Continental has lasted twice as long as more conventional cars survive in the market stands as testament to the inherent desirability of its brand and the depth of its engineering excellence. But die it must and by the end of the year, and it is the job of this Supersports to keep customers buying until then. And the car would appear well equipped for the task. Although it comes with new bumpers, air vents, bits of carbon fibre trim, badges, blackened taillights, rifled exhausts and other such cosmetic addenda required to provide a look of its own, the substantive changes all concern the engine. Some might consider the 636bhp of the Speed’s 6-litre, twin turbo, twelve cylinder engine to be what Bentley would once have described as ‘adequate’, but at this end of the market there is no such thing as enough power. So bigger turbos have upped its output to a thunderous 700bhp (or 710PS for those wondering why Bentley decided to limit production to this number), enough to make the Supersports quicker to 100mph than either a new Honda NSX or Nissan GT-R. As ever with Bentley however, it is the manner in which that performance is delivered that defines the driving experience. It’s so effortless it’s like someone has grabbed the horizon and is wrenching it towards you while you sit in leather-lined splendour watching it all happen. It is utterly majestic and as ‘Bentley’ a driving experience as you could wish. The truth is that, regardless of what the badge implies, this is no sports car, but another Grand Touring Bentley from that long and fine tradition. The new Continental GT will be unveiled in September and will share its structure not with a large VW saloon as did the current car, but the all new Porsche Panamera. It should therefore be lighter, faster and far more dynamic. It might even mean that the wait for the first true Bentley sports car in a lifetime will soon be over. 36

TORQUING CARS! FORD’S VIRTUAL MAP WILL HELP VEHICLES DODGE DANGEROUS BUMPS AND DIPS

Costly car repairs caused by dangerous potholes could soon become a thing of the past. Ford has announced that it is working on a virtual pothole map that could be released later this year. The map would show drivers in real-time where potholes are, how bad they are, and suggest alternative routes. In the UK, pothole claims average £432 a year per person, while in the US claims are around $377. And this winter is expected to set record lows, with freezing temperatures, ice and snow likely leading to more cracked and potholed roads. ‘A virtual pothole map could highlight a new pothole the minute it appears and almost immediately warn other drivers that there is a hazard ahead,’ said Uwe Hoffmann, a research engineer at Advanced Chassis Control Technologies, Ford of Europe. ‘Our cars already feature sensors that detect potholes and now we are looking at taking this to the next level.’ Ford cars are equipped with sensors that detect potholes and adjust the suspension to help reduce any potential damage. Engineers are now researching the use of cameras and embedded Wi-fi systems, at the Ford Research and Innovation Centre, in Aachen, Germany. They said these technologies could gather detailed information on the potholes and beam it to a virtual cloud – where it can be made available to other drivers – in real time.

SECOND-HAND CAR BUYERS ARE PUT ON ALERT OVER AN ‘ALARMING’ LEVEL OF FALSE DOCUMENTATION

Motorists are being put on the alert over an ‘alarming’ level of fake documentation for second-hand cars. Victims of scams have been left distraught after cars they’d bought in good faith were seized and immediately taken away after gardai discovered they had fake papers. If it happens to you, it means you lose the car and the money you’ve spent on it. The trail of misery starts after buyers send the Vehicle Licensing Certificates (VLC/ logbook) of the car they’ve purchased to the Department of Transport. That’s when the false certification is discovered. The risk is being highlighted by car-history check experts MyVehicle.ie who describe the trend as “a very serious matter” that is “taking place at an alarming rate”. The experts say car criminals are getting increasingly more sophisticated in forging Vehicle Registration Certificates (VLCs) so that they match the ‘identity’ of the car they are trying to off-load. Justin Kavanagh, MD MyVehicle.ie, told Motors he is astounded “people find bargain priced vehicles on classified websites, meet the seller in a car park and hand over thousands of euro, in cash, without doing the relevant checks” He adds: “Then buyers are completely shocked when they find out the car they bought is written off, clocked, previously damaged or stolen.” People should have such cars thoroughly checked out before parting with a cent, he says. As a history check website, obviously you expect him to say that - but it is good advice nonetheless. The trend Mr Kavanagh is highlighting serves to emphatically illustrate how far fraudsters are prepared to go to take your money. Intending buyers should cross-check (or get someone to do it for them) and verify all relevant ID numbers of the vehicle, the VLC and the NCT certificates, to make sure they match.(Indo Motoring )

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR THREE GAMES SET UP TRALEE CBS FOR CORN UI MHUIRI WIN: They say that playing games is much better than training and this will be put to the test this Saturday. It took Tralee CBS three games to overcome Colaiste Chriost Ri in the semi-finals as they finally got through 1-10 to 0-11 points in Ballyvourney last weekend. The sides had drawn twice after extra time and in truth it was Tom Hoare’s goal after only 3 minutes that proved to be the difference between the sides. Michael Kelliher hit 4 points and is another one that the Sem will have to watch. And of course the Sem is St Brendan’s College Killarney who take on the Green. The last time Tralee CBS reached the final was 2008 and they will be looking to land their 16th title (as against the 21 won by The Sem). And it is 10 years since the CBS won the title, defeating this weekend’s opponents in Austin Stacks Park. Back then CBS had the likes of the two Barry John’s – Keane and Walsh – in their side while the Sem’s Fionn Fitzgerald, Brian Kelly and Jonathan Lyne are amongst those who have pulled on the Green and Gold. However all the history will be forgotten for the hour when the sides meet in Austin Stacks Park with a 4pm throw-in. CBS coach Marc O’Shea knows his side have not had much time to celebrate their win but says they will ready to go. He acknowledged that the Sem will be a hard nut to crack but his side are looking forward to it and ready to give it everything in the final. It is a hard one to call with St Brendan’s Killarney, my old school and my nephew Mark is on the panel, probably just going in a favourites but don’t rule out the possibility that we could be writing about another replay next week. BUSY KERRY WEEKEND: The Kerry senior team will be looking for their second win in the National Football League Division 1 when they face Monaghan in Killarney on Sunday at 2pm. Having won away and losing at home Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s side will be looking for a vital 2 points against a side that already have a win and

a draw. The Kerry Ladies will also face Monaghan this Sunday with the sides meeting in Listowel on Sunday. Kerry enjoyed a nail biting 2-13 to 2-12 win at home to Donegal last weekend and a follow up win in the LIDL Ladies League will be important. TRALEE TOWN BOARD NEWS: In the Tralee Town Board Lee Strand Senior League Na Gaeil won away at John Mitchels 2-12 to 1-08. Kerins O’Rahillys saw of Mitchels 2-16 to 0-11 while Stacks beat Na Gaeil 2-10 to 1-07. This means Austin Stacks are through to the Final with their opponents to be decided this weekend when all the rounds of the League will be completed. Ballymac v Kerins O’Rahillys is the final League game which throws in at 12.30pm. The Town League Minor Games have been moved to Sunday to avoid a clash with the Corn Ui Mhuiri final. Safe Hands: The goal keeping course takes place this weekend with Gary Kissane running the course. CAMOGIE NOTES Littlewords National Camogie League Div 3 : Kerry got their season campaign off to positive start on Sunday last with a win at home over Tyrone. Congrats to the girls and to the management. Their next game is away to Roscommon. Kerry Minors: The Minor squad will train on Tuesday evening in Causeway at 7pm and on Friday in Kilmoyley at 6pm Kerry Sports Star Awards: On Friday night last, Patrice Diggin received an All Star award in the I.N.E.C in Killarney. This award came at a great time as she had just won back to back titles with her college UL last week. This was an award to mark a fantastic 2016 and 2017 is looking good already for Patrice. Congrats and well done on your award Patrice. Causeway News: The club is calling all girls aged 5 to 11 years of age from surrounding areas to try camogie in the Sports Hall from 6.30 to 7.30pm on Friday nights. Please bring along e2. Cillard Camogie Club Awards night: Cillard Camogie will hold their awards night this Friday 24th February in Kate Browns Restaurant Ardfert at 7.30pm. The Friday 24th February 2016

Cillard girls had a great year winning All Ireland U14 Feile, U14 Limerick Championship, Limerick Minor League, Eileen Cotter U15 Tournament. PARNELL’S NEWS: There was a great turn-out for the u6/8/10/12 Coaching Workshop. The coaches will now put this into practice with some of the squads back in training. Well done to Anna Kerdzaja who won the award of Tralee Parnells quiz champion 2017 and along with Donnacha Buttimer, Ailisha Daughton and Oisin O’Sullivan will represent the club in the County final of Scor na bPaisti. There was a great turn out at the Coaching Workshop with over 20 attending who will be working with the academy this season. Registration is due and all members are asked to have their monies paid as soon as they can. The club wishes all its members who are in Corn ui Mhuiri action this Saturday the best of luck. Gaeltacht Scholarships: Anyone interested in Gaeltacht Scholarships should contact the club committee. BY 3PM SUNDAY 3 COVETED CYCLING CUPS WILL HAVE NEW HOMES: The Munster cycle racing season gets underway this Sunday with the always popular Lacey Cup, hosted by the Tralee Manor West iBike club. The race will again attract over 200 riders who will be eager to put their winter training into action on the road. The race route is the usual 75km circuit used for the Lacey Cup while the new format, under Cycling Ireland rules will see a separate race for the A4 category, starting after the main A1/A2/A3 race. As well as the prestigious Lacey Cup for the overall winner there are two more much sought after Cup to be won on the day. The first is the Jackie O’Connor Memorial Cup and it will be given to the first Tralee Manor West iBike rider over top of Gleann na nGealt, the famous climb after Camp village. Riders are expected to reach the top around 12.55 following the race start on the Dingle Road at 12 noon. The race continues on through Inch and Castlemaine before the next big climb on Sliabh Mish. Here it is the rider that crests first gets the Teddy Griffin Memorial Cup. From here the race is down the other side to the finish just outside Tralee. Sean Lacey will be looking to win

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER back the family Cup which he last won in 2013, completing a 5 timer. Since then there has been exceptional winning performances by Daragh O’Mahony last year, Sean McKenna in 2015 and Damien Shaw the year before. Prize giving will be in the Manor West Hotel straight after racing, around 3pm. 5 PLAYERS MAKE THE KENNEDY CUP CUT: One of the hardest jobs in the Kerry Schoolboys Girls League every season is the picking of the 20 players that make the 14’s Kennedy Cup squad. The League can only bring 20 players to the tournament which pits 32 Leagues against each other over a week in Limerick. And of course Kerry as the only League outside of the big city Leagues to win the competition, known as one of the biggest in Europe and one that has seen the likes of John O’Shea, Damien Duff and more recently Conor Masterson –now with Liverpool taking part. Making this seasons panel from Tralee are Dynamos Philip Evans and The Park’s Sean Broderick, Cian Brosnan, John O’Connor and Earnan Ferris. The League will be announcing the squads captain and vice-captain at its major fundraising Night at The Dogs on Friday March 3rd. Tickets are priced at only e10 for the Kerry Schoolboys Girls League Buster Race and this admits 2 adults and 2 children to the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium. The players will be selling these tickets as part of their fundraising efforts and will be hoping for lots of support. SUPER SEASON FOR PARK U13’S CONTINUES: The St Brendan’s Park u13 side are the last one in the County left in the Skechers National Cup and their defeat of Mullingar Athletic last weekend sees them into the Last 8. They can also become the third Kerry side to make a Regional Final (Killarney Celtic are in the 12’s and 15’s) is they beat Charleville at Christy Leahy Park this Saturday. The game kicks off at 2pm and is well worth taking the time to cheer on the Park boys. KERRY 17’S IN CONFIDENCE BOOSTING FRIENDLY WIN: The Kerry u17’s are getting set to begin their second Airtricity League season and last Saturday they enjoyed a big pre-season boost with a 3-1 win over Limerick FC. Thomas Burke scored twice with Sheagh O’Connor getting the third. The League campaign kicks off away to Galway on March 19th. OSCAR TRAYOR SIDE OUT: The Kerry Oscar Traynor side exited the competition going down 5-1 to a strong AUL Dublin side. The KDL were missing a number of players for various reasons and this is something that needs to be looked at going forward. WHO WILL MAKE THE GMHD FINAL? This Friday at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the semifinals of the GMHD.ie Juvenile

Classic with a number of 12 dog sweeps building up to the final next Friday, March 3rd. Racing on Friday night begins with the first race from traps at 7.44pm. The Track is now taking entries for the Con and Annie Kirby Trial Stake starting on Friday, February 24th, the Quilter and Edwards Vets Coursing Bred Stake for 24 novice coursing bred greyhounds over 325 yards, which starts on Saturday March 11. The John and Mary Killeacle Dowling Memorial Ai 570 for 36 current AI greyhounds start’s on Friday, March 28th. BOXING TWIN BROTHERS: Tralee twin brothers Patrick and Michael McCarthy will box Cork twin brothers Gerard and John McDonagh in this weekend’s Munster Boys Boxing finals and just to add another bit of spice to it both coaches are named Tommy Kelliher. Patrick will box Gerard who is current Irish Champion B4 48kg, Mike will box John who is current Munster Champion B4 46kg. This will be a cracking contest as Mike is current Monkstown Champion. Another younger boxer Jonathon McCarthy is also in a Munster Final at B4 42kg and his opponent is not yet known as the other semi-final has to be decided. Jonathan is a first cousin of the McCarthy twins who all box out of Tralee Boxing Club under the guidance of coaches Tommy and Nolie Kelliher and Doniejack Griffin, ably assisted by Andy Doyle and Paul Moriarty. The Tralee Boxing club is proud to have 3 fighters going for Munster glory amongst a number of other Kerry boxers. WARRIORS WIN AGAIN AS PLAY-OFF PLACE LOOMS: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors enjoyed another comfortable win, making it 8 in a row, defeating Commercials.ie Eanna of Dublin 89-68. Coach Mark Bernsen said this was their best shooting display of the season with his side be totally unselfish in working for each other. Kieran Donaghy and Goran Pantovic dominated the boards and this was important as Dusan Pantovic was missing and Trae Pemberton’s great scoring run was curtailed by his picking up of early fouls. Warriors were in great form from the three point line and this saw them lead by 15 at the end of the first quarter 27-12. Fergal O’Sullivan made a huge contribution off the bench in the second quarter and hit 13 points and by the break the game was over as a contest as the Tralee side led 52-24. Pantovic was the big scorer in the third quarter and the lead was out to 36 with 10 minutes left. Coach Bernsen was able to rest all of his starting 5 for the final quarter and give his bench player some quality game time with Paul McMahon impressing. This all bodes well for the run in to the end of the season with Warriors looking odds on for a play-off place and who knows after that. Kieran Donaghy top scored for

the Warriors with 23 followed by Fergal O’Sullivan on 21 and Goran with 16. Warriors are in Dublin again this weekend when the play UCD. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS: In the u12 Division 2 Plate semi-final St Brendan’s just came through 39-35 against Gneeveguilla just holding off a comeback by the East Kerry side. There was nothing between the sides at the end of the first quarter but it all opened up in the second with St Brendan’s going in at the break 26-8 ahead. But as expected Gneeveguilla were not going to just give up and they staged a great recovery to close the gap to just 4 points in the second half. But the Tralee side held out for the win with all the squad contributing. They now move onto the final next month. U10 Blitz in Moyderwell: The club was delighted with the performance of the u10 boys and girls at the Blitz ran by the club in conjunction with the County Board. The Girls had two great games against TK Bobcats and Rathmore with all the squad getting plenty of court time. The Boys also faced the same opposition and displayed all the skills they have picked up in training with the efforts of both squads pleasing coaches Deirdre Hartnett, Denis Sugrue and Casey O’Donnell. The St Brendan’s Club was saddened to here of the death of club stalwart Eamonn McCarthy, a devoted and active member of the club for many years. The Club committee and members extended their deepest sympathies to Eamonn’s wife Brid and family, his father Frank and the extended family and friends. ROSE HOTEL RALLY ROARS OUT ON APRIL 2ND: A rally for competitors by competitors is the mantra being followed by Kerry Motor Club ahead of its April 2 Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally. Run under the stewardship of Richard Talbot, one of the most experienced rally organisers in the country, the event will offer the maximum allowed stage mileage under Motorsport Ireland regulations. The Tralee man re-takes the helm of the club’s flagship event 30 years after his first appointment as the Circuit of Kerry clerk of the course. An extensive route survey has already taken place and residents in the proposed route have offered their all-important support to the rally. A total of nine stages, in three-bythree format, using roads not used in The Kingdom for many years, and on stages made famous by the old-style Circuit of Ireland, ensures that competitors and fans can look forward to a long and challenging rally. Another plus point for the rally is that driver sign-on, the service park, and other event-related activities are all housed within the Rose Hotel’s complex, making it a very easy event to manage from both an organiser and competitor point-of-view. Friday 24th February 2016

Richard Talbot said: “I am glad and surprised to be back as COC for 2017 and very much looking forward to it. We have three very good stages totalling 120km of excellent tarmac.. I would also like to acknowledge the enormous effort and help from my deputy Eoin Duffin and all the team.” Entry forms can now be downloaded from kerrymotorclub. com. Entry fees are set at 799 euro including all insurance levies (529 euros excluding Motorsport Ireland levy), while junior drivers will pay 488 euro (300 euros plus 188 levy) for the first six stages. TRALEE HARRIERS NEWS: Three Tralee Harriers athletes were in action in the Irish Life Health National Senior Indoor Championships in the wonderful new Sports Ireland Indoor Arena in Abbotstown last weekend. Aoibheann O’Brien took bronze in the Long Jump with 5.57m, Solange Diogo also won bronze. He had a leap of 11.24m in the Triple Jump with both girls now 3rd in the National Rankings. Rachel Bowler took 5th in the two events, a good performance as she is still a Juvenile and her age group, the u19’s take place in a few weeks. 25 athletes are heading to Nenagh for the Munster u13 to u19 Indoor Championships competing in a total of 81 events. Training continues at the regular times for the coming week. Awards: Well done to Conor Commane who was named as Kerry Juvenile Athlete of the Year at the Kerry Sports Star Awards, a great achievement for the u14’s. Rachel Bowler attended the Emerald Crystal AAI Sport Star awards where she was honoured with the National Award for Kerry Juvenile Athlete of the Year. ON THE GREEN: At the Tralee Golf Club the Saturday 1 results saw Anton O’Callaghan taking the win from Denis Mannix. On Sunday it was Tomas Eoin Dowling that was the winner from Paudie O’Keeffe. The teams scores see Maurice Laide lead the way on 150 points followed by Alan Kelly 149 and Ray Kelly 145 points ahead of Danny Leen on 141, Brian Hennebery also on 141 points. In the Ladies section the 9 hole re-entry was won by Vera Tierney with Margaret Murphy second. The Garvey’s Spring League Round 3 was won by Geraldine Reen with Mary Murphy in second and Mary O’Donnell third.
