Medical Matters NURSE CATHERINE DOYLE TALKS ABOUT FOREIGN TRAVEL HEALTH ADVICE INCLUDING VACCINATIONS AND MALARIA PRECAUTIONS Travelling to exotic locations such as South America, Asia and Africa can be a wonderful and rewarding experience but people need to prepare carefully before they choose their destination. Aside from up to date paperwork such passports and visas and enough financial means to support the trip, travel health insurance is strongly recommended. Visiting certain countries will require travel precautions, vaccinations and perhaps malaria prevention measures. Some types of mosquitoes transmit diseases such as malaria and Japanese encephalitis so precautions should be taken to prevent mosquito bites. www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk is a very helpful website that can be used to look up the various countries on your travel route and will advise regarding the necessary vaccines and malaria prevention requirements. Vaccines to protect you against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, typhoid and hepatitis A are nearly always recommended for foreign travel to exotic locations.
Yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, hepatitis B and rabies vaccines may also be required for certain countries or if spending more that 4 to 6 weeks abroad. The age of the person, destination, length of stay and reason for travel are all taken into consideration by the health professional who will advise you on which vaccines and which anti-malaria precautions you may require. Certain vaccines need to repeated every few years, so it is important that travel vaccines are recorded and documented after they are given. Some clinics such as The Ashe Street Clinic, operate a special travel vaccination and advice clinic. So before you choose your travel destination, and to travel with peace of mind, enquire about what vaccinations and malaria precautions you will need at least 6 weeks before a short trip and 6 months in advance if staying overseas more than 6 - 12 months .

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
POT HOLES AND LIABILITY. Mark has his own business and drives on the roads all over the country every day, its vital for his business that his van is in top condition as he its off the road he is losing money. Recently he was driving and hit a large pothole badly damaging his tyres and suspension and keeping his van off the road for three days. So lets see what can Mark do to try and recoup his lost earnings to his car and business. The Law can be quite complicated here to try and determine who has liability for Marks damaged van. It is what is identified as Misfeasance Vs. Nonfeasance. Misfeasance basically means that there was a large pothole in the ground and the Local Authority in question repaired the pothole but they repaired it badly then they should cover the costs for Mark, but, most Local Authorities can claim that Nonfeasance was in play and that the pothole was due solely to normal wear and tear on the road and that the individual should of exercised caution and therefore has to cover their own costs or start a claim with their own insurance company with no liability falling on the Authority in question. Mark can claim if the Authority were aware of the problem, fixed the pothole but did so to a substandard level in a way that left it still dangerous to the public and their vehicles. Mark should keep all the receipts for the costs he incurred to his van and loss of business and take photos of the damage and also take photos of the pothole. If he can claim that the pothole was known to the Authority and the work they carried out was not completed properly then he may recoup his costs but if the Authority can prove that it was a fresh pothole due to wear and tear then it is doubtful if Marks claim be successful. In 2007 a division of one particular Local Authority, received 218 contacts from drivers who damaged vehicles on roads that year. During that period, it paid out compensation to 168 vehicle owners totalling €41,353 — an average of nearly €250 each. It is understood most claims were for damaged tyres and wheel rims. Marks next move should be to contact his local Solicitor who can set the wheels in motion if you can excuse the pun and start up correspondence with the Local Authority to determine all the facts of the case and can bring in a private engineer to help his case if needed. Legal Quip: You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said “Parking Fine.” Tommy Cooper

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... International Women’s Day Conference – The Brehon Hotel, Killarney On International Women’s Day KBN invites you to celebrate the achievements of women in all spheres of life. This year’s theme, Cultural Transformation, sets out to remind us that gender equality, inclusion and diversity remains a significant challenge, one that is hindering potential competitiveness, growth and prosperity.
Our event, “Cultural Transformation” is comprised of a morning session of thought-provoking presentations held by inspirational women who are leaders in their field, followed by lunch in a dynamic networking environment. One such leader is Orla Coughlan, who over the past 25 years has teamed with business leaders in multi-cultural, global markets, focussing on acquiring and growing businesses, developing talent to lead and deliver customer centric organisations. Orla is member of the leadership team of 30% Club Ireland whose focus has become synonymous with building gender balance on boards. Her previous roles included EMEA HR Director at HP, Global Vice President HR at Activision Blizzard, and she was most recently Chief Human Resources Director at eir. On leaving eir she has become a Director of CDP
Leadership Consulting, The event is open to all and not only highlighted by strong key note speakers in the domains of women in business but also women changing the world in other spheres. Joanne O’Riordan, who will place emphasis on the need for Inclusion, is a woman who spearheaded a campaign against cuts to disability which led to her appearance on RTE’s Late Late Show. Joanne is one of seven people suffering from a rare disease known as Tetra-amelia syndrome. The Irish Times described her TV appearance as “one of the guests on the show in recent years who has made the most impact on viewers”. In 2012 Joanne received a standing ovation for her address to the United Nations on the use of Technology, where she challenging those present to build a robot for her to use. Later her brother made a film on her life titled “No Limbs No Limits”. Tammy Darcy founder of The Shona Project has devoted her energies into ensuring that women and girls must have the tools they need to succeed. The organisation aims to educate, empower and inspire todays Irish Girls to become tomorrow’s strong, confident and content young women. Sinead Devlin from Belfast,
will cover the controversial topic of “Unconscious Bias”. The session investigates the unconscious feelings we have towards other people. In 2006 Sinead set up her own company, Develop Associates, delivering HR consultancy, talent management, management & leadership development and Career Coaching services to a number of public sector, SME and blue chip organisations across the UK and Ireland. Sinead has been an Emergenetics practitioner since September 2011. The morning session kicks off with Lisa Fingleton. Lisa is the Project Coordinator of ‘Moving On’, a new employment project for women in Kerry who wish to return to work. The project supports women through training, work experience and direct links with employers. The event will be held in The
Brehon Hotel in Killarney Thursday March 8th and starts at 9:30am until 2pm with refreshments on arrival and is open to male and female delegates. MC for the day is Fiona Stack, General Manager Kerry Radio and Fiona will also chair the panel discussion and Q&A session which will provide delegates an opportunity to engage with our female leaders. Organisers and promoters of KBN say they are working diligently to encourage women to enter and succeed in the workforce while addressing the many barriers women still face in achieving economic success, including those that impede women’s access to capital, markets, and networking opportunities. Tickets for the event cost between €10 and €25 are available online at: https:// kbnwomensday.eventbrite.ie

Race Director Martin Fitzgerald of Tralee Harriers “I also wish to acknowledge the huge levels of support from the people of Tralee and beyond who have demonstrated in numbers that the Tralee International Marathon series is now a firm favourite on the Irish sporting calendar. We are grateful to all of our sponsors who have supported the event and the club, with over 60% of all participants coming from outside the Kingdom the estimate is that over €250,000 has been spent by these athletes and their families in Tralee since the race series started”

Paul Griffin Tralee Harriers PRO said “The marathon series is a fundraising event for the development of the clubs training grounds, every single cent earned goes back into the club. The new lights which have been in use for two weeks, came from the races proceeds, this will make training all year round a huge advantage to the clubs athletes who are competitive on both the Munster and National stage. We will be finishing laying the current

CRISPY FISH WITH SWEET N SOUR SAUCE
ORANGE AND FENNEL ROAST COD
Most Chinese-takeout sweet-and-sour sauces are bright red, gluey and sugary. this version is light as well as a little spicy, which allows the fresh, briny flavor of the crispy fish to come through
INGREDIENTS
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • •
1 cup of chicken stock 1/4 cup soya sauce 3 tablespoons rice vineager 2 tablespoons ketchup 2 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon cornflour 2 tablespoons sherry
• • • • •
1 tablespoon chilli sauce 3 tablespoons oil 1 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger 2 cloves garlic minced 4 trout or bass fillets
• • • • • • • •
METHOD 1.
METHOD 1.
2.
In a small bowl, whisk the stock, soy sauce, vinegar, ketchup, sugar, wine, cornflour and chile sauce. In a small saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of the oil. Add the ginger and garlic and cook over high heat, stirring, just until fragrant, 1 minute. Whisk the sauce ingredients, then add them to the pan. Simmer until the sauce is thickened and glossy, 5 minutes. Keep warm over low heat. In a large nonstick pan, heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil until shimmering. Add the fish, skin side down, and press lightly with a spatula to sear the skin for 10 seconds for each fillet. Cook undisturbed over high heat until the fillets are browned and crispy at the edges and just barely opaque on top, about 5 minutes. Flip the fish and cook just until cooked through, about 1 minute longer. Transfer the fish skin side up to plates. Spoon the sauce on top, garnish with the scallions and serve with rice
2 fennel bulbs (about 1 pound each), including the fronds 1 tablespoon cooking oil 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper 1/4 cup fresh orange juice 1 teaspoon grated orange zest 1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds 2 pounds cod fillets, cut to make 4 pieces
2.
3.
Heat the oven to 176c. Cut off the tops of the fennel bulbs and chop the leafy fronds. Cut each bulb into 8 wedges. In a large roasting pan, toss the fennel wedges with the oil and 1/4 teaspoon each of the salt and pepper. Spread the fennel in an even layer and roast for 25 minutes. Stir the fennel and rotate the pan so the vegetables cook evenly. Roast 15 minutes longer. Meanwhile, in a glass or stainless-steel bowl, combine the orange juice, orange zest, fennel seeds, and the remaining 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Add the cod and marinate while the fennel roasts. Remove the pan from the oven and top the fennel with the cod and its marinade. Roast until the cod is just done, about 10 minutes for 3/4-inch-thick fillets. Sprinkle the chopped fennel fronds over the cod

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS! I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING THE MOST AMAZING WEEK! This week I have a bit of news… this fitness column is about to get very very exciting!!
I have decided to go travelling for the rest of 2018, with some very exciting things planned along the way… First stop? Titan Fitness in Phuket Thailand!! I can’t actually believe I’m saying this but, I will be working with Titan, documenting my experience for two weeks at their bootcamp in Phuket! All for this column! What is Titan Fitness you ask? Titan Fitness Camp was founded in 2013 and is located in the center of Phuket Island in a very unique area where Fitness and Martial Arts is practiced regularly. Currently Titan Fitness Camp is one of the largest Fitness camps in Thailand and South East Asia. The Fitness camp is divided into an outdoor training Fitness facility, Indoor Gym, Strongman area and assault course, Healths Kitchen and accommodation. Further more Titan has a three storey indoor gym with a Gear Shop
plus onsite accommodation. The indoor gym has a protein bar and gear shop located in the reception. So yeah, I have wanted to do this kind of thing for SO long, I’ve been following their page on Facebook and Instagram for absolutely ages. I can’t wait to share my experience with you all! I will be talking about everything, my experience, the facilites, the trainers, the accomodation - everything! I am going to have the trainers guest write pieces for this column and do a Q&A to answer any questions anyone might have! I am doing this alone so I’m very excited to meet new like minded people. Apparently there are a good few Irish in the camp at the moment. Of course I will be completely honest about my experience and all views and opinions will be my own. Transparency is key! I will be heading to Titan in the
end of March/start of April so I will have lots more then! Just said I would update you all on my very very exciting news! If anyone is interested in learning more, you can search ‘Titan Fitness’ on google, Facebook or Instagram. Or send me an email (rebecca.shortt94@ gmail.com) and I can direct you further!

IT’S THE FIRST WORLD WAR, AND A FRENCH BATTALION AND A GERMAN BATTALION FACE EACH OTHER IN THE TRENCHES.
It’s a rather slow day, and the Krauts sit bored in their trenches. Then, a young corporal speaks: “We really need to kill more frenchies! What can we do to lure them out?” A young recruit asks, “What is a typical french name?” Another answers, “Pierre.” The young recruit gets up, puts his rifle on the edge of the trench, aims, then shouts, “Pierre!!” From the other trench, a blue helmed head pops up, and answeres, “Oui?” Bang! The frenchman falls over dead. The german shouts again, “Pierre!!” Another french man looks up, asking “Oui?” Bang! He is dead as well. This continues for another half an hour, with the germans having a whale of a good time. The french commanders stick their heads together. “This can’t continue! Our men are dying like flies!” “Can’t we turn that tactic on them, as well?” The french think. “What’s a typical German name?” “Erich.” They decide to try it out immediatly. They send a soldier out with their new master plan. He get’s his rifle, nervously peeks out of the trench at the german line, then shouts: “Erich!!” Nothing happens. He shouts again, “Erich!!” Still, no answer. Slightly annoyed, he shouts louder. “ERICH!!” From the other side, a german voice in french asks, “Is that you, Pierre?” The french soldier looks up, “Oui!!”,and Bang, get’s shot.

Question I recently started working in a new job on a part-time basis. I have just learned that I am pregnant – will I be entitled to maternity leave? Answer If you are pregnant while in employment, you are entitled to take maternity leave. The entitlement to a basic period of maternity leave from employment applies to all female employees (including casual workers), regardless of how long you have been working for the organisation or the number of hours you work per week. You are also entitled to additional unpaid maternity leave. The Maternity Protection Acts 1994 and 2004 provide your statutory minimum entitlements in relation to maternity at work, including maternity leave. You are entitled to 26 weeks’ maternity leave together with 16 weeks additional unpaid maternity leave, which begins immediately after the end of maternity leave. Your entitlement to pay and superannuation (pension payments) during maternity leave depends on the terms of your contract of employment. Employers are not obliged to pay women who are on maternity leave. You may qualify for Maternity Benefit from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP) if you have enough PRSI contributions. However an employee’s contract could provide for additional rights to payment during the leave period, so that, for example, the employee could receive full pay less the amount of Maternity Benefit payable. If you have a dispute with your employer about maternity leave or if you have been dismissed due to a matter connected with your pregnancy or for claiming your rights under maternity leave legislation, you may make a complaint within six months of the dispute or complaint occurring. You must use the online complaint form available on workplacerelations.ie. The time limit may be extended for up to a further six months, but only where there is a reasonable cause which prevented the complaint being brought within the normal time limit. You should apply for Maternity Benefit at least six weeks before your baby’s due date. Apply to the Maternity Benefit Section of the DEASP.

TORQUING CARS! CARZONE’S TOP TIPS FOR DRIVING IN SNOW AND ICY CONDITIONS
Temperatures are dropping across the country and heavy snow fall and ice is forecast in the coming days. Driving in these conditions can be unsettling and dangerous, preparation is key to staying safe on the roads in this hazardous weather. Black ice can cause skidding, low sunlight reflects off the snow dazzling drivers and radiators can freeze. With that in mind, here’s some tips from Carzone to stay safe and survive some of the worst conditions you’ll find on Irish roads. Driving in Snow and Ice • Only drive when it’s necessary! • Plan your route: Stick to the main roads which are safer and more likely to be gritted. • Get a full tank of fuel: Then if you do happen to get stranded you can keep the engine running to keep warm. • Bring a bag of supplies: Be prepared for any problems or delays. Bring food, water, warm clothes, a blanket, torch, first aid kit, fully charged mobile phone, jump leads, shovel, ice scraper, de-icing fluid and grit/sand/cat litter (for traction if you get stuck) • Make sure your car is fit to travel: Check basic items, like all your fluids are topped up and your tyres aren’t worn out. • Clear the entire windscreen with de-icer fluid or scraper, not just a peephole: Make sure the window wipers aren’t stuck to the window. Also clear the side and rear mirrors, front and back lights, door mirrors and number plate. • Clear any snow off the roof of your car: This can easily slide down while driving and block your view again. • Steer, accelerate and brake smoothly: Abrupt changes and manoeuvres can result in loss of grip and control. • Listen to the surface: If the sudden crunch of driving on snow stops, you may be on ice. • If you skid: Don’t break, this may prolong the skid. Take your foot of the accelerator and way for the skid to stop. If you begin to spin, steer in the car in the direction the rear of your car is sliding. Don’t overcorrect, or you’ll need to turn in the opposite direction
SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO ?
I drive a 151 Honda Civic 1.6 diesel, bought new, 120k on the clock; 40k/45k per year, three-quarters motorway driving; 65mpg from car, no children at the moment. My wife has the main family car. Should I drive my car into ground (Honda are bullet-proof) or should I update my car? It’s only used as a commuter car so if I update I’m open to selling it privately or trade in with a dealer. Any model or size car will do as long as it’s reliable and good economically. I don’t want to be paying out serious money to just put up 40k a year. Aidan and Eddie say ..... Sorry to be blunt but 45k a year is serious mileage and our instinct is for you to change. You are doing phenomenally on MPG so the advice is, trade in against the newly arrived 1.6-litre diesel Civic. If it ain’t broken, don’t fix. (Indo Motoring )
CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED If your car has developed a fault, turn to Honest John by emailing honestadvice@telegraph.co.uk
Sting in the tale? As replacement tyres for my 2007 Volvo XC70 AWD, would the new Michelin Cross Climate Plus have an advantage over the (original equipment) Pirelli Scorpion M+S? The latest Pirellis continue to perform well, but the Michelins seem to be getting very good reviews. GB The matter might be decided by what is available in the right size. Michelin Cross Climates score with their compliance, quietness, good steering feel and performance in mud, as well as their cold weather virtues.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER in Dublin this Saturday night when they take on League and Cup champions Black Amber Templeogue, their second last game of the regular season. *WITH THE BEAST FROM THE EAST SET TO MEET STORM EMMA ANY PREVIEWS HERE ARE WEATHER DEPENDENT. (The Beast from the East meets Storm Emma sounds like the preview of a UFC fight). with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR A BLACK WEEK IN GREEN AND GOLD LAND: There are weeks, thankfully very rarely, when you wonder what is the point of sport and even more so, writing about it? This was one of these weeks. By now most people will have read about the death of two exemplary young persons who had a huge interest in sport. Aodhan O’Connor from Dingle was like many in this county talented in a number of sports. But soccer was his favourite and that is where I knew him from for the last few years. The Camp Juniors player was a member of the Kerry Emerging Talent programme for the last few years and played for Kerry in the Galway and Kennedy Cups. This season he had helped the Camp Juniors 15’s team to reach the Last 8 of their National Cup, from over 300 teams that set out in that age group. This was unknown territory for Camp. Last Monday week Aodhan was signed for the Kerry under 15’s League of Ireland team on a night that his mother told me was one of his proudest. But tragically his life was cut short following an accidental clash playing football for his school. He passed away at CUH after the wonderfully generous gesture by his parents to donate his organs. And at this stage we must remember the other player who was involved and who did nothing wrong. What happened is something that no family should ever have to face but also something that his teammates in both codes should never have to deal with. And it’s a credit to them and all involved in the teams in how they conducted themselves during a tough week. In Killarney the death of young Amy O’Connor who battled cancer so bravely deeply saddened the town. People might remember Amy as the young girl who helped Dr Crokes captain Johnny Buckley lift the Andy Merrigan Cup for winning the All Ireland Club title. Amy was also a member of Killarney Celtic and played with the girls’ team. One of the things everyone remembers about Amy is her smile. The way she dealt with what life threw at her is a lesson those of us much older could learn from her. So now back to the point of sport and the sporting family. And I say

the sporting family as that is what it is this week. Not the soccer family or the football family but the sporting family. Sport was very important to both these young people. Sport gave them a wider circle of friends, sport showed them the joy of winning and the hurt of losing. Watching and playing sport was something these two lovely young children did with their families. And as a writer about sport hopefully I give people some enjoyment and a chance for a little time out to read and agree, or disagree, with what I write. So while a week like this makes you question everything and ask why do things like this happen these are questions we will never get answers to. But more importantly us adults who are involved in sport and especially underage sports must never forget what is important – providing sport for boy and girls to play. The positives of properly organised sport by which I mean all players are treated with respect, all players at the younger ages given equal game time irrespective of ability, all players are encouraged as they get older to play to their highest potential but sport can never become only about the elite. It has to be open to all. And no young player should be told not to play any sport. What sport they play has to be their choice and that of their parents. Very rarely bad things happen and very rarely young children’s lives are cut short. After this week the playing fields of heaven have two extra angels playing on them. We will always remember them and what the joy they gave us during their must to brief stay with us. It is now up to us to honour their memory. FINALLY: As a sports writer I am probably guilty of this myself but I am calling on all sports journalists to stop using headlines like a certain sporting event is ‘Life and Death’. It’s not. It’s important yes but there are other terms to use and like I say I have probably been guilty in the past. GOOD WEEK ON THE COURT FOR TRALEE TEAMS: It was a good week for Tralee on the basketball courts for two Tralee teams. Garvey’s Tralee Warriors kept their SuperLeague ambitions alive with a vital win while the girls of the Presentation School
Friday 2nd March 2018
were crowned All Ireland u16 B champions. The girls were decisive 47-14 winners over St Paul’s from Oughterard in the National Basketball Arena to follow on from their All Ireland Schools Cup win earlier this year. While scores were hard to come by early on the Tralee side led 8-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Kerry side began to dominate in the second quarter led by MVP Rachel Killgallen and were dominating on both boards. By the end of the third quarter the game was effectively over as the Pres led 30-11 and the added a further 17 points to their opponents 3 in the final quarter to be crowned All Ireland champions. The victorious squad and scorers are: Rachel Killgallen 14, Aisling O’Connell 13, Maryanne Fleming 10, Sinead Barrett 8, Lisa Curren2, Aoife Hickey, Alannah O’Sullivan and Mary O’Connell. WARRIORS ROLL OVER THUNDER: A capacity crowd at the Tralee Sports Complex witnessed another thrilling but nail-biting win by the Warriors to keep their SuperLeague hopes alive. The win over Swords Thunder, one of their title rivals came courtesy of a Pantovic hook shot with just over 10 seconds to play. And the 74-73 win had the Warriors level at the top and one of 5 teams that can still win the title. Warriors led 17-13 at the end of the first quarters and the game remained tight to the half with the visitors now leading by 3 points 40-37. Worryingly for the home side Swords then hit 14 points without reply to lead by 15 before Kieran Donaghy began the fight back from the Warriors and a three from Pemberton left just 8 between the sides as they entered the last ten minutes. The Warriors now had the momentum and Pemberton hit four three’s in a row as the game tightened right up. Going into that last few seconds the Warriors were still a point down before Pantovic became the hero not just soring the winner but then stopping Westbrooks who had a chance to steal the win from the Tralee side with 6 seconds to play. For the Warriors Trea Pemberton hit 22 points followed by Goran Pantovic on 18 and Kieran Donaghy on 15. The Warriors have a huge game

A parent/guardian must attend in person to sign the membership forms and supporting documentation in the presence of a club official. This registration session is being held in advance of the open registration session that will take place at a later date. This allows existing members/ players to secure their place in our Academy for the 2018 season. Any existing member/ player that is not registered on the 03 March 2018 cannot be guaranteed a place in our Academy for the forthcoming season so it is essential that you take note of this. We have to restrict membership numbers according to the number of volunteers available to coach at our Academy sessions. (Parents: If you would like to coach at our club please tell us on registration day). The open registration day will allow parents an opportunity to register new players in our academy, places will be made available on a ”first come first serve basis” subject to the club having a sufficient number of volunteer coaches. The fees for the 2018 Academy season are the same as last season: €80 for the first child, €50 for a second child from the same family and €35 for a third child and any other children from the same family. Each player is also required to bring €2 for each academy session which contributes greatly towards the costs of purchasing training equipment and maintaining our club facilities. DYNAMOS NEWS: Training will continue this coming Friday evening March 2nd at the IT Tralee astro pitch, commencing at 6 pm. Those to impress last Friday evening in the bitter cold winds were Farran Ó Dálaigh, Ben Murphy, Eoghan Ó Dálaigh, Darragh Grayson and John Leen. Remember to bring a nice warm hat and as the evenings are getting
quite chilly and in the interests of hygiene we also encourage all youngsters to bring their own water. The €2 also covers the cost of pitch rental and lighting. Of course, the Academy would like to welcome any new and young budding stars from the ages of 5 up to the ages of 10. Many thanks to coaches Noel, Tony, Chris and Roland for looking after the youngsters on Friday evening last. CROSS COUNTRY NEWS: Qualifiers from the North and South Munster Post Primary Schools competitions took part in the Munster championships in the Waterford IT. The All Ireland Schools CrossCountry Championships will be held on Saturday March 10th, again at Waterford IT. CIRCUIT OF KERRY SET FOR BUMPER ENTRY: Entries have opened for Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry with organiser Kerry Motor Club predicting a bumper entry for April 8 event. As a counting round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship and the Top Part West Coast Championship the Tralee-based is on target to attract a star-studded entry for the rally. The opening round of the West Coast Championship took place in Nenagh, County Tipperary in early February where local ace Roy White took the laurels. The Ford Fiesta World Rally Car driver has already outlined his plans to contest the entire Triton series after finishing runner-up last year and winning the title in 2016. The opening round of the series is the Mayo Motor Sports Club Achill Rally on March 10 after which Kerry Motor Club will get a better indication of who is committing to the series and who is likely to arrive in Tralee the weekend after the Easter break. Regardless, those who do register for Circuit of Kerry are in for a treat. Roads in West Kerry that have not been used in seven years form the backbone of the rally, with the addition of another valley stage that has not been used since the late 1990s. New Championship in Rallying: A new championship in rallying is good news for those in the sport in the county. The Moriarty’s Centra Farranfore Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship is open to members of the Kerry and Killarney Motor Clubs. The rounds included are the Circuit of Kerry, Rally of the Lakes and Killarney Historics Rally. GAA SHORTS:
