LEGAL CORNER
The More you tell the more you sell!!!
Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read
LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Irish Citizenship Amin has been living in Ireland legally for five years and she is anxious to obtain her Irish Citizenship. She is wondering what is involved in the application and what she will need to show to be successful in the application. Irish citizenship is formal recognition of being part of the Irish Community at home and abroad. It also gives the benefit of being an EU citizen. One of the main reasons people make this application is to make it easier to travel in and out of Ireland and around the European Union. Becoming an Irish Citizen gives rights to hold an Irish passport, rights under the Irish Constitution 1937 as amended, right to vote in an Irish Election and consular and diplomatic assistance abroad. There are various ways that one could become an Irish Citizen e.g. by birth/descent, naturalization and being a spouse of an Irish Citizen. Amina having lived here legally five years would go the naturalization route, which involves completing a form and sending on certain information. Any convictions need to be disclosed and three referees need to be obtained. Evidence of identity will be produced as well as all the addresses that one lived at in Ireland. Applications are decided by the Minister for Justice and Equality who has absolute discretion as to whether or not to grant the citizenship. One must fulfill the following criteria Be 18 years or older or be a minor born in the State (from 1 January 2005) and Be of good character - the Garda Síochána will be asked to provide a report about your background. Any criminal record or ongoing proceedings will be taken into consideration by the Minister for Justice and Equality in deciding whether or not to grant naturalisation. Have had a period of 365 days (1 year) continuous reckonable residence in the State immediately before the date of your application for naturalisation and, during the 8 years preceding that, have had a total reckonable residence in the State amounting to 1,460 days (4 years). Altogether you must have 5 years (5 x 365 days) reckonable residence out of the last 9 years and Intend in good faith to continue to reside in the State after naturalisation and Make a declaration of fidelity to the nation and loyalty to the State, and undertake to observe the laws of the State and respect its democratic values. Normally, when you apply for naturalisation you must be supporting yourself and your dependants while living in Ireland The application fee is €175 Law Fun: Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad. TRALEE CREDIT UNION WELCOMES FUNDING APPLICATIONS FOR COMMUNITY PROJECTS Tralee Credit Union are now inviting second round applications for the Lauri Healy Community Project Fund. At Tralee Credit Union’s AGM in December, the Board of Directors announced the approval of a fund of €260,000 to be shared with the community over the next four years. Mr Tom Lawlor Chairman announced that in addition to its “normal” sponsorships amounting to €25,000 and the annual education fund of €10,000 it is committed to approving €30,000 each year to support significant community projects”. The fund, named as the Lauri Healy Community Project Fund, amounting to €120,000 is in honour of founder director Lauri Healy and will support community based projects over the next four years. Speaking to Sean Roche Chairman of the Lauri Healy Community Project Fund Committee “Tralee Credit Union is committed 12

Every Monday – Friday 8.30pm FADÓ FADÓ National Folk Theatre of Ireland A whole year’s cycle of living and working the land is dramatised though lively singing, music and dance.
AMERICAN MADE Director: Doug Liman Starring: Tom Cruise, Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Caleb Landry Jones, Jesse Plemons American Made is the new action biography film about Barry Seal (Tom Cruise), a pilot who in the late 70’s and early 80’s worked for both the CIA smuggling weapons and also worked for the Colombian cartel smuggling drugs. As bizarre as the plot might sound it is a true story. The film is almost two hours long but it flies by (pun intended). The quick pacing and condensed plot give more time for comedic character moments and tense scenes.

Doug Liman already has an impressive career with directing credits such as Swingers, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity. He adds another impressive film to that résumé as he stamps his own stylistic vision on this film. The film utilises the shaky camera style which is using a hand held camera to film. The film tells Barry Seal’s story well as he tells us the story from recordings he made of himself on the run. If there is one real problem with the film, it is that it isn’t really all that unique. It shares a lot with other ‘true to life’ crime films like Catch Me If You Can and The Wolf of Wall Street. All the actors do a great job in their roles especially Cruise and Gleeson. Cruise is extremely charismatic in the lead role and you cannot really imagine anyone else in the role. Gleeson on the other hand quickly switches from likeable to hateful in seconds and makes the character more interesting and is an impressive performance by him. Overall the film is enjoyable even if it can’t break the mould for non-fiction crime films. Mr. Movies Fact: On the last day of filming a stunt pilot tragically died in a plane crash caused by poor weather conditions.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... “SOLID GOLD PARTY” IN THE BROGUE CELEBRATES MUSIC OF THE 60’S , 70’S & 80’S THIS WEEKEND WITH LOCAL FAVOURITE DJ CHRIS SHORTT
After a great response to the previous “ABSOLUTE 8O’S NIGHTS in the Brogue ,this Sat night Sept 9th , its going to happen again with a small DIFFERENCE !! Yes , the Brogue Inn is playing host to ANOTHER late night “Solid Gold session with well -known local DJ Chris Shortt .”We wanted to try something a little bit different , as we are now having entertainment up to 7 nights a week in the Brogue “ says Fiona Kirby .So Chris came up with the idea of a “Solid Gold Night “ which we thought was brilliant . According to Chris , “these nights really rock .....People who I haven’t seen in years come out purely to hear the great songs of the 60’s 70’ & 80’s ....It really brings the great memories flooding back “ says Chris .... I grew up with that music , a lot of the crowd who come out on Sat night to the Brogue are very familiar with this music and even a lot
of the younger generation in their 20s and 30’s are really into the older Music .... we are talking Beatles , Bee Gees , The Rolling Stones , Wings , Pink Floyd , The Monkees Bob Marley , The Police , Deacon Blue , Simple Minds , Dire Straits , Abba , the list goes on ...Remember MT USA with Fab Vinny ...we are talking Michael Jackson , Van Halen, The Pointer Sisters , Starship , The Eagles , Fleetwood mac . Chris really knows his music , he has been the Rose Ball DJ for many many years now “ says Kevin Cotter .from the Brogue ..”.it only makes sense to have someone who knows the great music of the past , as well as Chris does , entertaining our customers rather than having someone working from a Playlist !”
SOLID GOLD PARTY with Chris Chortt
So remember next Sat Sept 9th is “Solid Gold Night with Chris Shortt in the Brogue
VISUAL ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT SIAMSA TÍRE Tralee, 30 June 2017: Karen Hendy has been announced as Siamsa Tíre’s Visual Artist in Residence, following an open call. The residency, which will run from 26th June to 26th August 2017 allows an artist time and space to create new work. The work Karen will undertake while on Residency will go towards a solo exhibition in 2019. This artwork will reflect a creative response to working closely with the National Folk Theatre of Ireland, particularly the members of the performing company. Karen will also be able to interact with the public during this residency, as she will have full use of two of the gallery spaces within Siamsa Tíre as working studios. Karen Hendy comments: “The residency at Siamsa Tíre is a great opportunity for me as a visual artist to explore new avenues of enquiry. It stimulates dialogue between various art-forms and allows cross-over from one medium to another. Irish folk-life 18

traditions and rural culture have always influenced my work, and this residency at Siamsa Tire will allow me to develop this connection further.’ Catriona Fallon, CEO Siamsa Tíre comments, “We are delighted to have a visual artist working in the building and engaging closely with the National Folk Theatre. Siamsa Tíre has hosted residencies in the past, including our work with Susan Leen in September of 2016, but this is the longest residency to date. We received a large number of proposals, but we are confident that in choosing Karen, we will have a very interesting and creative few months ahead of us! Siamsa Tíre is conscious of the challenges facing full-time practicing artists and we hope that this residency, and others to come, will be of benefit to artists and the communities they live in.” Karen is a fulltime artist Friday 8th September 2017
and a native of Kenmare, now living near Portmagee. Karen works in the medium of painting, installation and mixed media. She draws on her experience of living within a rural community to narrate themes of change and impermanence in relation to the human condition and the geology of the landscape. Having experienced the burning of the land, ploughing, tilling and sewing as part of the yearly ritual of renewal, she deliberately introduces
these physical processes into her work. Her abstract work combines unconventional materials with unorthodox processes: layers are exposed through mechanical grinding, silage foil is transformed by burning with torches and shovels are used to spread gesso. Karen is a recipient of the Tyrone Guthrie Bursary from Kerry County Council and Cork County Councils in 2016 and 2017.

HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!
Now that I’m back living in Tralee, I really want to focus on beauty products and services that are available here. That way you won’t have to be going online to find the things I talk about. Makes sense. So this week I went into what I like to call ‘The Beauty Hub of Tralee’ - CH Chemist. I wanted to pick products in CH that I would genuinely buy if I went in there, so that’s what I did. Here’s a list of my top current picks in CH Tralee - in no particular order. 1. Brush on Duo Glue - I’ve always used the regular duo glue for my falsh lashes. It’s my ride or die eyelash glue, I always have at least 3 tubes, it keeps those false lashes on allllllllll day. Recently, I discovered the brush on duo glue and my life is now changed for the better. It’s just soooooo much more convenient and easy to use. When i went in to CH & saw it, it went straight on my list! It’s also half price - down from 8 euro to 4, you’re welcome! 2. Blank Canvas Cosmetics brush cleaner Now, if you have been slaving away cleaning your makeup brushes without this, you’re doing something wrong. I don’t know what is in this but I feel like it could be magic. Just wet the top of your brush, give it a little swirl in this and boom, clean brushes! Sidenote: if you have been avoiding cleaning your makeup brushes for a while now… 1) ew, stop putting bacteria on your face & 2) GO CLEAN THEM - NOW!!(or at least go buy this with a view to cleaning them) 3. Benefit Hoola Bronzer - Like that ex you just can’t shake, if you have used this bronzer you will more than likely always go back to it. It’s warm toned without being orange, it blends seamlessly and I just love it. Seeing this in CH reminded me how much I love Hoola Bronzer so I went back using it and I just love it. It also lasts forever, I have had mine way longer than I should and should probably get a new one. 4. Flormar double raidiance primer - Just because Summer is over(sorry but it’s true) does not mean that glowy skin has to end too. If you think I’m going matte because it’s Autumn you can think again. The glow never dies. This primer gives your skin a gorgeous radiant look, like
you’re glowing from within. I sometimes mix it with a matte full coverage foundation for that extra glow. Did mention I like glowy skin?
I
5. Nyx Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks - I don’t know how long I’ve been sleeping on these liquid lipsticks but… OH… MY… GOD! Where have these been all my life? I love using these under a clear gloss, I’m loving gloss at the moment. My current favourite colour is ‘Bedtime Flirt’. 6. Theirry Mugler Alien Perfume - This perfume is my ultimate Autumn/Winter scent. It’s just perfect for both day and night and I love it. It’s a strong scent and I can always tell if someone is wearing it when they walk into a room, another reason why I love it. 7. Blank Canvas Cosmetics brushes - If you follow this column you know that Blank Canvas is one of my favourite makeup brush brands. It’s such high quality and so affordable! The brushes are also so pretty, they have fab gold chrome brushes and rose gold ones and they’re so soft! I’ve been using them for YEARS. So if you’re looking for great quality brushes, CH have a huge stand! That’s all for this week everyone, I hope you all enjoyed my top picks from CH Tralee - all these picks are my own and this page is in no way sponsored or in affiliation with CH Tralee. You can find me on Facebook ‘Bexblah Makeup’ or Instagram ‘Bexblah’. I hope you all have an amazing week!

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK. LAST WEEK WE TALKED ALL ABOUT MOTIVATION, THIS WEEK I’M GOING TO TALK ABOUT HAVING A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD. A healthy relationship with food is actually something that few people have. Growing up I was never happy with my body really, I was always on some form of ‘diet’, I would fluctuate loads! I thought of certain foods as ‘good’ and ‘bad’. I had a bad relationship with food. Now, I’m pretty certain in saying I have a good relationship with food - no foods are ‘banned’ from my meals, I know what foods to eat in order to fuel my body properly and I don’t see any food as ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Because I love going to the gym and working out, I know what kinds of foods will fuel my body so that I can have the most energy possible and benefit from my workouts. If I really feel like a certain food - I have it. Simple as. But I didn’t just wake up one day and have this mindset and attitude, 2 years ago I was eating whatever I felt like too - but my meals consisted mostly of dominos, chinese, chocolate, high calorie, low nutrition, high sugar, high salt foods. It’s a process. I first
had to learn all about food and nutrition and what nutrients and macros your body needs. There was a period when I first started to get myself together that if I felt like a certain food I didn’t eat it, because I had to get my nutrition right first. So I get it, you can’t just ‘eat what you want’ - because some days we all just want to comfort eat, and that’s not beneficial either. I guess that having a good relationship with food is eating what you know your body needs, but not depriving yourself either. • BREAD IS NOT BAD • CARBS ARE NOT BAD • FAT IS NOT BAD • CHOCOLATE IS NOT BAD • All of the above foods won’t ‘make you fat’ unless you eat them in excess amounts, but that applies to every food. If you’re doing a certain diet at the moment for a ‘quick fix’ or ‘fast results’ - sorry, but you do not have a good relationship with food. These diets may provide quick weight loss, but what you might not realise is, that weight is mostly made up of muscle and water weight - not actually fat. Those diets also totally mess up your metabolism and therefore when you go back to ‘eating normal’ you will put on weight quicker than before. It’s a vicious cycle.
for nutritional plans, they are amazing. Both Amanda & Daniel have so much knowledge on all things food and nutrition. If buying a nutritional plan isn’t in your budget right now, even follow them on Snapchat - @ recalibratedb Facebook - Recalibrated Bodies or Instagram @recalibratedbodies - they’re always giving out amazing free information! HEALTHY RECIPES for 2017
Noels ‘must-have ‘ herbs for your kitchen!
This week I’ll give some tips on herbs, and how to get the best from them, and also how to store them At our Restaurant Croí, we use a lot of herbs and need them to last a day or two. So here is how.
HOW TO STORE AND USE FRESH HERBS
Basil How to store it: At room temperature in a vase of water for up to 1 week. Use it up: Mince and combine with sugar for an aromatic fruit topping.
Chives How to store them: In a sealed plastic bag in the fridge for 1 to 2 weeks. Use it up: Chop and combine with softened unsalted butter; drop chunks on top of just-cooked steaks, pork chops, or fish.
Coriander or Parsley How to store it: In the fridge wrapped in plastic for up to 5 days. Use it up: Puree 1 cup leaves with 1/4 cup olive oil and 1 clove garlic to make a pesto; use on pasta or as a dip for bread.
Rosemary How to store it: In the fridge in a sealed plastic bag for up to 5 days. Use it up: Whole branches make a perfect bed for roasted vegetables, or tuck them into the cavity of a chicken or other bird before roasting.
Sage How to store it: In an unsealed plastic bag in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. Use it up: Mince and stir into jarred pasta sauce.
Thyme How to store it:

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! AN AMERICAN MAN WALKS INTO AN IRISH BAR AND PROPOSES A CHALLENGE. An American man walks into an Irish bar and proposes a challenge. “I hear you Irish men are great for the drink, but I want some proof” and proceeds to put $200 on the bar. “If any of ye can drink 10 drinks in 10 minutes, you can get this $200. I’ll buy the drinks.” All Irish men go silent, and one murmurs to himself and leave. 15 minutes later the Irish man comes back and goes up to the American and accepts his challenge. Sure enough, the Irish man drank all 10 drinks in a whopping 8 minutes. “Impressive” the American man says “but may I ask where you went before you took the challenge?” “Went to the pub next door to see if I could do it first”
replied, “Don’t you know that your left arm is missing from the elbow down? It must have been torn off when the truck hit you.” “Ahhh!” screamed the lawyer. “Where’s my Rolex!”
I HEARD ABOUT A TOURIST THAT VISITED A RELIGIOUS SITE ONCE.
He climbed all those steps and wanted to ring the bell at the end, but the poor guy had no arms, having lost them in an industrial accident year previous. But being no stranger to overcoming adversity, the tourist insisted on ringing the bell anyway, so the guy ran toward the bell and hit it with his head. The first two times were fine, but on the third attempt, he tripped, stumbled and fell to his death to the rocks below. When being interviewed for the accident, the police asked the monks “Do you know this guy?” The monk responded, “No, but his face rings a bell.”
MY WIFE SAYS SHE’S FED UP AND IS PLANNING ON LEAVING ME THIS WEEKEND.
Despite begging and pleading with her, she’s adamant she won’t move out before then.

As he got out, a truck passed too close and completely tore the door THINGS. I’VE JUST WON THE off of the drivers side. The counsellor immediately LOTTERY!” EXCITED, SHE grabbed his cell phone, dialled 911, and within minutes a policeman pulled up. Before the officer had a chance RESPONDS “SHOULD I PACK to ask any questions, the lawyer started screaming FOR WARM WEATHER OR hysterically. Him BMW, which he had just picked up COLD?” the day before, was now completely ruined and would never be the same, no matter what the panel beater did to it. When the lawyer finally wound down from his ranting and raving, the officer shook his head in disgust and disbelief. “I can’t believe how materialistic you lawyers are,” he said. “You are so focused on your possessions that you don’t notice anything else.” “How can you say such a thing?” Asked the lawyer. Statement on refunding of Domestic Water Charges The Government has announced that Domestic Water Charge refunds will be issued in the Autumn. Irish Water is working to ensure that this can be achieved as efficiently and accurately as possible. Irish Water’s primary concern is that the payment of refunds is as straightforward as possible from a customer point of view and that those who made a payment to Irish Water are refunded with a minimum of delay, once Government has passed the legislation and provided the funding needed to allow for refunds. Almost 1m customers will be repaid their domestic water charges totalling €173m. The cost of refunding customers will be approximately €5m to cover the cost of letters, cheques, a public information campaign and additional staffing to support the project including additional call centre staff to deal with customer queries.

Answer lf you lose your Irish passport abroad, you should immediately report the loss to the local police and to the nearest Irish Embassy or Consulate. You will be asked to confirm the loss in writing or, if you are applying for a replacement, to include the details of the loss in your passport application. You must also ask the local police for a written statement that you have reported the loss of your passport. A member of the police authority in the country in which the passport went missing must witness this statement. You will need this police report to get a replacement passport or Emergency Travel Document from an Irish embassy or consulate. If there is no Irish embassy or consulate in the country where you are, contact the embassy of any EU member state and they will get in touch with the nearest Irish embassy on your behalf. An embassy of another EU member state cannot issue you with a new Irish passport, but can, in some cases, issue an EU Emergency Travel Document for a single journey back to your country of permanent residence in the EU. It may be useful to carry a photocopy of the personal data page of your passport with you when travelling, or to scan an image of that page and email it to yourself. Any passport reported as lost or stolen is no longer a valid travel document. You should not try to travel on a passport that has been reported as lost or stolen.

TORQUING CARS! FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW 2017 – YOUR GUIDE TO THIS YEAR’S EVENT
With the Frankfurt Motor Show now just weeks away, we’re beginning to build a decent picture of what to expect from Germany’s most important automotive event. All the home teams – BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Porsche and Audi – have something to bring to the party, and we’re expecting some exciting launches from further afield as well.this year’s event will no doubt be relatively subdued – Germany’s biggest carmakers, the lifeblood of the country’s economy, are under scrutiny for their role in the ongoing Dieselgate emissions scandal. What’s more, the world is turning its back on their favourite fuel. The event for passenger cars takes place in Messe Frankfurt, an exhibition centre with several centuries of history as a trade fair venue, It tends to attract around a quarter of a million visitors. Those wishing to attend the show can do so on the public days from Saturday September 16 to Sunday September 24, from 9am to 7pm (European time). Tickets cost from €12 online, and a bit more expensive at the gate. Children under the age of seven are admitted for free. The UK has a strong entry list into this year’s Frankfurt show, especially considering how many brands seem to be absent. We’re excited for two long-awaited Jaguar models, the E-Pace SUV (destined to beat the F-Pace as Jag’s most popular car ever) and potentially a production version of the I-Pace, Jag’s first electric car. The latter is expected to go on sale in 2018.Bentleywill also be at Frankfurt 2017. It unveil the brand new Continental GT, a successor to the brand’s most popular car and (arguably) the model that turned the company’s fortunes around. At the opposite end of the spectrum is the Grandland X, a new SUV from Vauxhall. Based on architecture from Vauxhall’s new French owners, the Grandland X will be a large family car to rival the Nissan Qashqai, Seat Ateca, Volkswagen Tiguan, Peugeot 3008 and many, many more. This year’s Frankfurt Motor Show sees the reintroduction of a Subaru Impreza to European shores. One of Britain’s favourite brands is Honda, which builds its Civic hot hatch in Swindon. This year they’ll be launching a hybrid version of their CR-V family SUV, as well as a facelifted Jazz hatchback.Possibly the most properly exciting car being launched at Frankfurt will be the Hyundai i30N. This is the first real attempt at a hot hatch from the good-value Korean brand,The 400km journey from Munich to Frankfurt is a rather short one in the new 600bhp BMW M5. That’s set to be one of the home-game highlights for this year’s show
CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED DECLINE AND FALL
I visited a franchised dealer while helping my sister choose a car. For cash purchases, the polite young saleswoman stated that her company would not haggle on the marked price of a new car. Is this really the modern world? JL If they won’t haggle on cash prices, exercise your rightful prerogative to walk away. HJ
CONCRETE JUNGLE
During a speed awareness course I was told that motorists don’t know how to approach speed humps correctly. Apparently you shouldn’t drive with your wheels either side of the hump but with one wheel on and the other off. This sounds like nonsense to me. SS The advice is correct and has been mentioned many times in this column. If you centre the car, the tyres’ inner shoulders are forced down on the chamfered edges of the speed cushion and this abrades them so severely that they eventually become dangerous. And because the damage is to the inner shoulders, it isn’t obvious to the naked eye. HJ
CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
We’ve owned our 2004 VW Golf 1.9 TDI from new and it remains a super car, with only 77,000 miles on the clock. For some years it has been used only as a second car for local journeys. Do we offload now, or should we continue to run it? What big bills are waiting? JA It won’t have a particulate filter that is likely to get choked up and go wrong, and the car isn’t worth much, so it probably makes sense to keep it as a second car. If they haven’t been done, it will need a timing belt, water pump, tensioner and aux belt at about £400-£450. Just stay out of London from October onwards, because from then on the penalties of driving a pre-2005 EU3 diesel will be severe. HJ 40

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR 3 IS A MAGIC NUMBER FOR THE 17’S BUT NOT THE 15’S: The Kerry u17’s will look back at this very successful season and especially their good runs before and after the break. Earlier in the season Kerry put together a good string of results and now towards the latter end are on an even better run. They are now unbeaten in 5 games with 3 wins in a row and have added 11 points to their total which is now at 22. Their latest win came at Mounthawk Park where they defeated Wexford 2-0 thanks to goals from Thomas Burke and Dillon Robinson. They are away to Shamrock Rovers this week and are looking for a big crowd on the 17th when the face Bray Wanderers in their last home game of the season. Kerry 15’s travelled to the UL All Weather to face the unbeaten Limerick in the 3rd round of the U15 League of Ireland hoping for a change of luck from their two 3-2 losses in their first two games. Kerry had to plan without long term injuries Sean Kennedy and Aaron Benson plus Daniel Okwute and Dylan Murphy who missed this game with knocks from the Wexford game. Sean McGrath opened the scoring on 16 minutes but the home side were level on the 46th. Kerry led again in the 56th minute when McGrath and Gaxha combined again for the latter to score. Limerick levelled from the penalty spot in the 71st minute and with Kerry down to 10 men Filip Mostovoy hit the winner from 25 yards. Kerry are at home to Waterford this Saturday, September 9th with the kick off pencilled in for 3.30. NEW KDL SEASON UNDERWAY: The Denny Kerry District League season is underway with Lisard Wanderers the new team. They are based in the Blennerville / Tralee area and will play in Division 2B. It is also great to St Brendan’s Park back and they will hope to progress out of Division 1B. There are 9 teams in the Denny Premier A which should help shorten the season as everyone looks to see if Killarney Athletic can again challenge for honours and follow up on their historic League and Cup double. In the FAI Junior Tralee Celtic will be at home to Rathkeale,

Classic take on Ballyheigue, Tralee Dynamos travel to Broadford United and Mitchels Avenue welcome Newcastlewest Rovers. VIT HIT KERRY SCHOOLBOYS GIRLS LEAGUE RETURNS: The Kerry Schoolboys section of the League begins this week while the Girls starting at the end of the month. The new team this season are Windmill United who have entered the League at 15’s level. There is action this week in the Even ages while the teams will also have the National Cup in their sights. This begins next weekend with Tralee Dynamos and The Park hoping from long runs in the competition. REFEREES CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF WHISTLING: Soccer in Kerry is lucky that it has always had a high standard of referees doing its games. While we might not always agree with their calls no one can argue with their professionalism or the totally unbiased way they go about their job. Thankfully we have never had too many issues from outside the line towards referees either which is probably why we have also managed to hold onto our officials for many seasons. Kerry soccer has also seen a number of its official’s progress onto League of Ireland level with Kevin O’Regan, Stuart Templeman and Simon Driaghi officiating at the highest level. With the huge numbers now playing soccer a Referee’s Beginners Course is being planned so hopefully many ex-players might make the move. But before that present and past referees will be swopping their kits for their glad rags as the Kerry Branch of the Irish Referees Society celebrate 40 years this weekend at the Rose Hotel. They are hosting a Council meeting on Saturday with the National President and FAI Officials in town. They will also be in attendance at that nights gala dinner along with FAI Referees Observer James McCarthy, Kerry Referee’s Observer Michael Fox O’Connor and newly appointed Observer Kevin O’Regan. It should make for a great night of stories from the referees angle of the Beautiful game and hopefully will also be supported by the clubs

in the county. DYNAMOS DETAILS: The Tralee Dynamos Academy is up and running at the clubs grounds in Cahermoneen. It started last week with a very well attended Open Day where the coaching team put the young players through their paces. The Academy for boys and girls continues on Friday evenings from 6pm to 7pm costing only e60 for the season. The u11’s and u12’s enjoyed their pre-season friendly trip to LB Rovers in North Kerry. These games proved useful to both clubs ahead of this weekend’s season opener. The other Schoolboy teams are also back in training. Registration is now overdue with the fee of e90, including insurance, now due. The club was again thrilled to see one of its former stars Rian O’Sullivan putting in an excellent shift in green as part of the Irish u19’s who defeated the Czech Republic 2-1. PARK LIFE: The Management Committee have decided that the Registration Fee payable per each player for the coming season will be €100, with training/match fees maintained at last season’s amount of €140, so the total cost per player for the full season is €240. We are pleased to announce that the above fees include a Park F.C. branded O’Neills triton windcheater. The fees will be used to pay Registration and Affiliation fees with both the Kerry Schoolboys/ Girls League or the Kerry District League (adults), Player Insurance, electricity bills for our floodlights, as well as Referee’s fees, kitwashes etc. The discounted Registration Fee for a second family member is €60, with discounted training fee €70. Fees are payable in one instalment of e220 or by instalments with details available from the club. The Management Committee have decided that a player is ineligible to train and therefore ineligible for selection if the Registration Fee is not paid in full by 29th September or by the above dates if paying by instalments. CAMOGIE NEWS: The North Kerry Under 10 Blitz was a huge success with 13 teams
from 11 clubs playing 21 games. In total over 120 players really enjoyed their tournament. Tralee Parnells under 16’s hosted Causeway with the Tralee side running out 5-10 to 3-09. Parnells will take on Kilmoyley on Saturday, September 16th and are at home to Abbeydorney the following week. Parnells u14’s took on Abbeydorney in the North Kerry Championship and won by a decent margin in the end 5-09 to 3-04. The final where Parnells take on Crotta is due to be played this week. TOWN BOARD CHAMPIONSHIP’S LAST 4: The first of the Tralee Town Board Senior Championship takes places this Sat Sept 9th at 6.30 pm in Austin Stack Park, sponsored by Lee Strand. The meeting of these old rival town teams this weekend is a great warm game for these teams before the County Championship restarts again. County players will be on view to from both clubs too and a big crowd expected to come and see them. The Second semi-final between Ballymac and John Mitchels will take place on Sat 16th at 5.30 pm at Ballymacelligott. Ballymac fresh from their promotion to Division 2 of the County League and John Mitchels who remained in Division 1 for another season will both hope to end their season by qualifying for the final. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 12,16, 20 and 27 and the next Jackpot will be e3,800 with the draw this Sunday night in Skelper Quane’s. The club is hoping for a huge turnout at its annual Family Fun Day this Sunday, September 10th with the day starting with a 5km walk in memory of Tony O’Donoghue leaving the clubhouse at noon. A full range of fun activities for adults and children is planned for the afternoon. There will be no Juvenile Academy this Sunday due to the Family Fun Day. Well done to AJ Turner, u6’s, and Cian O’Halloran u8’s who were named Players of the Week. The u10’s are training for the Annual John Mitchels Blitz which takes place on Saturday 23rd of September. The u12 Girls played Churchill in the Town League and despite going down put up a very good performance. The u13 Boys were defeated by Churchill and John Mitchels bringing their Town League campaign to an end. An under strength Seniors team were defeated away to Kenmare last Sunday in the final game of the Division 2 County League. The team will play in Division 3 next week. The Senior B have home advantage in the quarter-finals of the Barrett Cup which will be played in Blennerville this Saturday, 9th at 4.30pm.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER STACKS NEWS: The u6’s, u8’s and u10’s continue to train on Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings. The u12’s did well against Laune Rangers while the u13’s are looking forward to the Lee Strand Football Tournament this weekend and were unlucky against Ballymac in the Town League. The u14’s defeated Na Gaeil in the Town League while the u16 B’s are at home to St Pats. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The seniors lost to Templenoe in the last game of their County League campaign 2-14 to 2-12 but have already their Division 1 status for the 2018 season. Charlie Kerins quarter final versus Skellig Rangers due to be played this weekend is off. The minors won a cracker against Na Gaeil 5-09 to 1-20 with a Gearoid Dillane last minute goal to secure a semi-final berth away to Dingle. In this they won 1-14 to 1-11 to qualify for the final where they will play the winners of Laune Rangers/ Austin Stacks tie. The Junior Blues drew with Ardfert in a 10 goal 28 point thriller with both sides scoring 5-14. The u14’s went down to Ballymac in the final of Division 2 of the County League. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 8,9, 12 and 20 with the next jackpot being e9,100. ACTION AT THE GREYHOUND STADIUM: On Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there is a ten race program with the semifinals of the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Supporters Club A1 525. An eight race SIS card gets the action underway on Saturday morning with the new later start time where the first race goes off at 10.34am.Annascaul GAA are holding a fundraising night at the dogs on Saturday night with some top class raffle prizes up for grabs, face painting, bouncy castle plus music after racing. Also on are the finals of the KGOBA A6 and A8 sweeps plus the semi-finals of their A5 sweep. SEAN’S THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN: With double points on offer for the last of the National Road Series there were a number of riders in contention going into the last race – the Laragh Classic in Wicklow. Taking the riders over the Wicklow Gap twice this was a race for the brave and Tralee’s Sean Lacey knew what he needed to do. Lacey was 4th at the start of the race but controlled matters and knew that a third place finish would give him the title for the second year in a row and the third in total. He secured this and is now a triple National Road Series champion winning in 2010 as well as the last two years. This brought some good news to Aqua Blue after their professional squad’s bus was burned out on the Vuelta Espana. Lacey was thrilled with the win
saying that to do so once was great but to win for a third time was special. “Winning this once was great but to take back to back National Road Series titles is a fantastic achievement and makes all those hours on the bike well worth the effort.” TRALEE CLUB TAKES TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL TITLES: The final night of the Time Trail action for the summer saw the County Championships taking place in almost perfect conditions. The course was the same as that for the League with the adults and u16’s covering 20km and the u12’s and 14’s racing against the clock over 9.7km. After all the action was completed it turned into a very good night for the Tralee Manor West iBike club. The top three in the County League were the favourites again and this time it was George Doyle from the Tralee team that took the title in 27.36.4 from the two Sliabh Luachra riders Richard Cleverly and Sean Dineen. Doyle’s teammate Suzanne O’Sullivan warmed up for her World Triathlon Championships appearance by taking the Ladies prize while Tralee Manor West iBike also the Team Title. Doyle was joined by Jerry McCarthy and Tom Gentleman as the three counting riders. Sliabh Luachra was second in team event with Kingdom CC in third. Pat Sheehan from Sliabh Luachra was the quickest Junior while Doyle also picked up the M40 prize from McCarthy and Gentleman. Tom Barrett was the quickest in the M50 in 30.16 from Ed O’Mahony while Tom Daly, Killarney CC was the fastest in the M60’s. Sean Barrett was the fastest u16 in 29.57.9 taking the title ahead of Eoin Moloney and Tadgh O’Shea with Faith Hilliard being the quickest girl. The Galvin brothers completed a great summer by being the quickest in the u12’s and u14’s. Shane stopped the clock in 16.30.7 from his 9.7km to finish ahead of fellow Killarney CC riders Louise Steadman Murphy and Bryan Hanafin. Unattached rider Nuala Moloney was the quickest girl in the u12’s. She won her category from Sinead Barrett and Shayna Daly. Patrick Galvin covered the 9.7km in the u14 section in 15.20 to win from Slaibh Luachra’s Ben Murphy with Killarney’s Ethan Slattery in third. Tara Kissane was the quickest girl just ahead of Almha Kissane. Time Trial League and Championship organiser George Doyle thank all the competitors who took part during the summer. He was especially thankful to all the volunteers marshals who ensured the competitions went off with a perfect safety record. WARRIORS AWAY IN SUPERLEAGUE SEASON OPENER: Garvey’s Tralee Tigers will be away in their opening game as they go to Cork to face C&S UCC Demons on September 15th at 8pm. Their first home game will be on September

23rd when they welcome KUBS BC to the Sports Complex with an 8pm tip-off. Coach Mark Bernsen is back for another season and has re-signed Goran Pantovic and Trae Pemberton with the rest of the squad being finalised at the moment. Coach Bernsen is delighted to be back. “I am very happy to be back in Tralee and to try again from more trophies. Every season means starting over with different people, different opponents and players with different attitudes and these must all be dealt with. We must find a way to create a group that plays together for the right reasons. We have been blessed with great sponsorship and that is always the first step towards stability. We have a good group of returnees and will have a few new faces. The footballers including Kieran are coming back and we will be trying to get them up to speed as soon as we can. With the right attitude by all it should be another exciting new season. No Women’s Team a Disappointment: A few seasons ago there were two Ladies teams playing in the National League – Tralee Imperials and Den Joes Castleisland and no Men’s team. Now we have 3 teams in the Men’s National League while the two women’s teams have folded. Hopefully we will see someone pick up the mantle and put a women’s National League team together in the coming seasons. ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL BACK FOR THE NEW SEASON: The committee of St. Brendan’s Basketball Club would like to welcome all coaches and players back to training and to wish the teams at all levels the very best of luck for the upcoming season. The St. Brendan’s Committee for the 2017/2018 season is as follows: President: Charles O’Sullivan, Chairperson: Pa Carey, Vice Chairperson: Alan Cantwell, Secretary: Martha Hughes, Asst. Secretary: Claire O’Sullivan, Treasurer: Jane Doyle, PRO: Alan Cantwell, Tournament Coordinator: Geraldine Collins, Children’s Officer: Elaine Williams Baily, Fundraising Officer: Mary Collins Fok-Saeng, Moyderwell Hall Officer: Marie O’Sullivan. New and returning players can contact the coach of the age group or any member of the club for their training times. Upcoming events: The club is very proud to announce two upcoming tournaments in memory of two great St. Brendan’s Basketball Club stalwarts. Firstly the inaugural Éamonn McCarthy Memorial U16 Tournament will take place in Moyderwell on Saturday 23rd September. The following week the Bruddy Burrows Memorial U12 Tournament will take place at the same venue on Saturday 30th September. NORTH KERRY CRICKETERS ALL OUT FOR THE SEASON: A tough season for North Kerry
Friday 8th September 2017
ended this weekend. As with every other home game this year rain came on Saturday so the last league match against Tipperary was abandoned. Sunday saw North Kerry visit Harlequins in the Plate match, an already under strength team was hampered by a late withdrawal so being a man down before the match started was not ideal. Harlequins batted first on a humid, energy sapping day and made 225 largely helped by Joe O’Mahoney (58) and Joe Hourinane (42 not out). In response North Kerry started slowly and were never in the contest. Jonathan Boulding (33) and Paul Wyer (22) were the main run getters in a disappointing 99 all out. COUNTY MATCH PLAY PITCH N PUTT CHAMPIONS CROWNED: Last Sunday morning the Kerry County Match-Play Finals began in earnest on the beautiful Castleisland course. The Junior Ladies had only three Tralee players participating with Aisling Quirke and Charlotte Blake playing the semi-final with Charlotte progressing to the final to play Lisa O’Connor. In the final Charlotte took the early lead but was reeled in by Lisa who eventually went on to win the match and Kerry Junior Lady title. In the Gents Juniors semi-finals Tralee’s Tim Scannell proved that experience can beat youth as he saw off Deerpark’s Darragh O’Callaghan. Rob Heffernan saw off his Listowel team-mate Killian O’Gorman on the first extra hole and he just got home ahead of Tim 3 and 2 after the 36 hole final. In the Inters two players stood out early on and they eventually met in the final. Tralee’s Eamon Sheehy and Listowel’s Chris Curran were the outstanding players with the Listowel man taking the title in the end. Unfortunately for Tralee both their players lost their Senior semifinals. Jamie Blake went down to Castleisland’s Shane Brennan and Jason Cregan lost out narrowly to Deerpark’s John McGrath who then won the final. Best of luck to the six man Kerry team that are in action in the National Inter County Finals in Ryton Co Kildare this weekend. ON THE GREEN’S –TRALEE GOLF CLUB: In Round 5 of the Series sponsored by the Bank of Ireland the winners were Michael Leahy and Tony O’Halloran on 47 points. Second were Derek O’Brien and Hugh O’Farrell with 45 points. In the Ladies section Martha Corcoran’s Ladies Prize was won by Barbara Reen on 42 points with Liz Grey second and Kathleen Finnegan third. Mary Sheehy took the Best Gross. The Past Presidents Prize was won by Deirdre McElligott with the Committee Prize being won by Ber Walsh.
