Packed houses at Scoil Eoin Christmas Panto! Earlier this week , the hall was full of proud Moms , Dads and families as the boys and girls of Scoil Eoin performed their famous annual Christmas concert ...Some of the highlights were .... Ms Burke’s junior infants display their talents with The Snowman, a musical drama. Everyone loves making snowmen but what happens when there isn’t enough snow. Ms Houlihan’s junior infants delight with “A King is Born”. This play tells the traditional Nativity story. Mrs O’Sullivan’s junior infants entertain with “The Wriggly Nativity”. With catchy songs, movement and dance, they tell the story of the First Nativity with energy and enthusiasm. Mary, Joseph, innkeepers, twinkling stars, angels, shepherds and 3 Wise Men retell the story in their own unique way. Mrs O’Donoghue’s 1st class present “Friends Forever”, singing a medley of songs from the 1960’s to 2018 chart toppers. All the songs have a
common theme – Friendship. Mrs O’Donoghue accompanies them on guitar and Ms Daly on piano. Mrs Hill’s 1st class delight with “Christmas with the Aliens”. The Aliens have landed on Planet Earth. They bump into some children from Scoil Eoin rehearsing for their Christmas concert. The Aliens are intrigued, as they’ve never heard of Christmas. The children are happy to explain it all. Mr Farrell’s 4th class entertain with Santa’s Social Network. Santa has become addicted to social media after buying the new I phone X. As a result the North Pole is in disarray with only 2 days to go before Christmas. Can Mrs Claus and the elves save Christmas before it is too late? Lets see how this Christmas cracker unfolds? Ms Curtin’s Gaeilge Bheo present “Jack explains Christmas” as Gaeilge. Jack and his sister Jacqueline climb the Beanstalk to discover that there is no sign of Christmas
in the Giant’s castle. They explain our Christmas traditions to Mr and Mrs Giant and help them to prepare for the holiday season. Lara O’Toole and Mrs Lyons’s 6th class sing a selection of popular music and festive classics. Mrs Meehan’s talented musicians present a variety of tunes and some wellknown Christmas tunes on concertinas and tin whistles.
The wonderful Mrs Hill accompanies them on piano. Sally Ryle’s amazing orchestra entertain with ukuleles, kazoos and tambourines to play Christmas festive favourites. Our talented ASD Unit present “A Spoonful of Sugar”. It is a presentation of dance, Christmas songs and an abridged version of the show “Mary Poppins”

Christmas comes early for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind The puppies of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind have been given an early Christmas present this year, with MSD Animal Health presenting them with ‘the gift of health.’ The donation from the leading animal health specialists will provide around 240 dogs in the Volunteer Breeding Programme, Volunteer Puppy Raising Programme and the Training Programme with vaccine, flea and tick treatment for the year ahead. Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind is Ireland’s national charity dedicated to helping people who are visually impaired and families of children with autism to achieve improved mobility and independence. Bosco Cowley, Manager of MSD Animal Health’s Companion Animals Division, said: “We are delighted to be announcing this partnership with Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind and to be collaborating with their own veterinary practitioners in supporting the health and wellbeing of these very special dogs. The first
years of life are crucial in preparing them their future role, and a full bill of health is essential in supporting them during their training and development period. The MSD vaccination programme will help to ensure that common diseases and parasites are controlled, and the dogs can thrive and flourish.” Tim O’Mahony, General Manager, Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, welcomed the gift from MSD, saying: “The health of our dogs is obviously a top priority for us, and this partnership with MSD will enable us to ensure that the animals are
supported with a full program of vaccinations and treatment in the important first year of their lives. We are passionate about the work we do and about the difference the dogs make to the lives of the people they are partnered with, and this is all thanks to
the generosity of the many organisations, individuals and volunteers who support us. I would like to extend our thanks to MSD for their generosity and look forward to developing our partnership further with them in future.”

Brncott Sauvignon Blanc packed-full with intense fruit characters. It is so pungent and exuberant! Personally, it is my favourite Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
The nose is bursting in grapefruit and passion fruit aromas, with plenty of lime and zesty lemon notes as well. It smells fresh and vibrant, in a pungent abundance of slightly grassy citrus peel, lime, and sweaty passion-fruit-dominated profile. The palate, straight away, feels round and balanced too. It’s crisp and zesty, with a solid acidity that underlines the punchy lime, grapefruit and passion fruit flavors. It’s a Kiwi Sauv Blanc after all!
This classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc comes in a bright and shiny lemon-yellow color, of medium intensity, but not pale.

FITNESS!
(Daily from 1pm, onstreet & Public Car Parks)
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS! I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK. This week I just wanted to talk about the time of year we’re at currently. This time of year is a tricky one with regards to fitness and health, summer is over and Christmas is coming… It’s very easy to say “Feck it I’ll take my eye off the ball now and relax a bit until January”, basically the old story of my life! Another thing, why wait til Monday? Monday is just a day. If you really want to get healthy/loose fat/gain muscle why not start as soon as possible?! Who cares what day it is! If you’re going to put it off til Monday, you’re probably going to keep pushing the Monday back further and further, Monday will actually be the symbol of your
procrastination rather than anything else. Just do it - there’s a reason that’s one of the world’s biggest brands trademarks. And trust me, I know. It’s 1000 percent easier said than done… But once you want it and want to do it for you and you only, the rest comes easy. There are SO many health and fitness facilities in Tralee to suit absolutely everyone, so get out there and find the one for you.
On another note, I have a “Less Guilty Cookies” recipe for you all this week! I tried them this week and I would highly recommend.
I got this recipe from ChocolateCoveredKatie.com, check out the website she has so many recipes!! • • • • • • • • • •
oat flour (140g) 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 4 tbsp coconut sugar (brown sugar or sucanat will also work) 4 tbsp xylitol or evaporated cane juice (white sugar will also work) 1/4 to 1/3 cup chopped macadamia nuts (or walnuts) 3 tbsp to 1/2 cup chocolate chips (Throw in a big handful. I never bother to measure.) 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 2 tbsp vegetable or melted coconut oil 3-5 tbsp milk of choice, as needed
Instructions Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe: Preheat oven. Combine all dry ingredients and mix very well. Add wet, and form into a big ball. Now make little balls from the big one. For soft cookies, refrigerate until cold (otherwise, just bake right away). Bake 7 minutes, or until they’ve spread out and look just a little undercooked. Remove from oven when they’re still a little undercooked, then it’s important to let cookies cool at least 10 minutes before trying to remove from tray, as they’ll continue to cook while cooling. For soft cookies, store in a lidded plastic container. For crispy cookies, store in a lidded glass container. You can find me on Facebook ‘Bexblah Makeup’ or Instagram ‘Bexblah’.

Bexblah Beauty HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS! Happy (almost) Christmas!
So this week I’m doing my “Best Of Beauty 2018”. My Top makeup products of 2018. I have talked about all of these multiple times and that’s exactly why they have made this list! Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Palette Ride or die Eyeshadow Palette of 2017 & 2018 100%. Amazing quality, very affordable & available on Morphe.co.uk
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer Best Concealer I own. Feels so light on the skin, has great coverage and it doesn’t crease up.
Ardell Wispies Lashes If you follow me on Instagram you KNOW that Wispies are my number one lashes of 2018. I’m obsessed with these. €5 in Pennys!
Benefit Hoola Bronzer This Bronzer is a long time favourite. It’s the perfect shade and you can use to to contour too. Number one Bronzer of 2018!
Too Faced Extreme Lip Injection 2018 was definitely the year of Gloss for me. I am obsessed with lipgloss, it makes your lips look so nice and full (and also photographs better). Blank Canvas Brushes They were the Main Sponsor of my Beautiful Favourites & Beyond The Glam events for a reason, I’m obsessed with Blank Canvas Brushes. The quality of them is insane and they’re always improving. And they’re Irish!
So that’s my Top Favourites of 2018. Every single product on this list I would recommend 110%! To keep up with my antics you can follow me on…

Natural Good Health Monitoring and maintaining your health is key to continuing a healthy, happy, active life. It is important to observe and listen to the messages your body sends, and respond sensitively to them. This brings a sense of achievement and well being. It should not be difficult to enjoy natural good health. We all know that eating a healthy diet DOES make you feel better, controlling your weight ALLOWS you to look and feel better, and keeping fit DOES make you more energetic. Any efforts you make, quickly become apparent, and this gives you the incentive to keep up the good work. BASIC ESSENTIALS: Vitamins, Minerals, Fibre and Water are some of the basic essentials of any balanced diet. Making sure your diet contains adequate amounts of all of them should be one of your most important priorities. If your diet is lacking in these then you may choose to supplement with some of the following: • ANTI-OXIDANTS: are especially important for health, as they kill oxidants, the bad guys which may cause declining vision, wrinkling skin, poor digestion, lack of energy, worsening cardiovascular health and so on. Antioxidants are found in carrots, tomatoes, fruit and vegetables – especially broccoli and peppers. As well as eating these foods, it’s well worth looking at some of the excellent anti-oxidant supplements available, such as COENZYME Q10 (30-60mg per day), or any of the SUPERFOODS, such as WHEATGRASS, SPIRULINA and POWERGREENS (all of which are available in powder or capsule form) • VITAMIN B: Low levels of vitamin B can lead to emotional stress, fatigue and irritability. degree, it could be called an “anti-wrinkle vitamin”. Since the need for collagen regeneration increases with age, you require greater amounts as you get older. Vitamin C also helps the body’s immune system to fight infections and allergies. • CALCIUM: essential for long term bone health, there are many calcium supplements on the market, and some are combined with other nutrients for better absorption. We are always happy to advise on one to suit your specific needs. • FIBRE: Roughage is a particularly important part of any healthy diet; it keeps your gut healthy and promotes regular bowel movements, which helps to prevent the distension and bloating that many people experience. Fibre can also give you the feeling of fullness and satisfaction that may help control your appetite, combat cravings and avoid the dreaded binges. Foods that are rich in fibre include, whole-grains (brown rice, wholemeal pasta) dark green leafy vegetables, pulses (peas, beans and lentils). There are also some excellent fibre supplements available such as LEPICOL, PSYLLIUM HUSK or MAXICOL – simply mix the powder with water and consume once or twice a day (it is very important to increase your water intake when taking a fibre supplement) These are just a few ideas you might find useful if your intention is to maintain or achieve “Naturally Good Health”. Call in-store and have a chat, as always we are happy to discuss your specific needs. Until Next Time, Stay Healthy

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A BLONDE SHOWS UP TO WORK WITH HER EARS COMPLETELY BURNT
Her coworker asks” what happened to your ears?” The blond replies “well I was ironing my shirt when the phone rang. I picked up the iron thinking it was the phone” “And the other ear?” “Son of a b**** called back.”
A LUMBERJACK APPLIES FOR A JOB...
...the interviewer asks, “so, where have you worked previously?” The lumberjack replies, “I did a few years in the Sahara Forest.” The interviewer, taken aback, inquires, “the Sahara ‘Forest?’ Don’t you mean the Sahara Desert?” Lumberjack says, “yeah, that’s what they call it now.”
TWO MEN ARE AT A BAR AT THE TOP OF THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
After a long week of work, Buddy’s decide to celebrate the weekend by getting absolutely wasted. 3 hours later and 9 drinks, they are completely drunk. One of the men turns to his buddy, points to the window and slurs “You know, the winds are so high out here, that if you jump out you’ll get pushed right back.” His buddy replies “What? No. You’re lying.” The first man grins and starts walking to the window. He opens it, and a giant gust blows in. He jumps out and flys back in. The friend is in such a amazement that he runs straight to the window, jumps, and falls to his death. The bartender looks up from cleaning a cup and says “you know Superman, you’re really mean when you get drunk.”
MAGIC TRICK
A cruise ship hired a magician to entertain the passengers. Since the passengers changed every four or five days, the magician was able to perform the same tricks over and over. Unfortunately, the Captain of the ship had a parrot who sat around and watched the magician perform his tricks, over and over. Eventually, the parrot learned
how the tricks were done and would interrupt the act. “It’s in his sleeve,” the parrot would say. “He switched balls.” “It’s in his pocket.” Etc., etc. Naturally, the magician was quite disturbed by the parrot but could do nothing about it, since it belonged to the Captain. Unfortunately, the cruise ship had the misfortune of hitting an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the sea in a matter of minutes. As fate would have it, the magician and the parrot managed to grab hold of the same floating piece of furniture. For 3 days, neither said anything. The magician stared at the parrot and the parrot stared back. Finally, on the 4th day, the parrot cracked and said, “OK, I give up, where on Earth did you put the ship?”
HILLARY CLINTON GOES TO A GIFTED-STUDENT PRIMARY SCHOOL .....
Hillary Clinton goes to a gifted-student primary school in New York to talk about the world. After her talk she offers question time. One little boy puts up his hand. Hillary asks him what his name is. “Kenneth.” “And what is your question, Kenneth?” “I have three questions: First - whatever happened in Benghazi ? Second - why would you run for President after your husband shamed the office? And, Third -whatever happened to the missing 6 billion dollars while you were Secretary of State?” Just then the bell rings for recess. Hillary Clinton informs the kiddies that they will continue after recess. When they resume Hillary says, “Okay where were we? Oh, that’s right, question time. Who has a question?” A different boy-little Johnny--puts his hand up; Hillary points to him and asks him what his name is. “Johnny.” “And what is your question, Johnny?” “I have five questions: First - whatever happened in Benghazi ? Second - why would you run for President after your husband shamed the office? Third- whatever happened to the missing 6 billion dollars while you were Secretary of State?” Fourth - why did the recess bell go off 20 minutes early? And, Fifth - where’s Kenneth? “

MC GREGOR COULD HAVE KILLED HIMSELF ! Conor McGregor could have killed himself driving at more than 150kmh, Road Safety Authority chief Moyagh Murdock has said. The MMA fighter received a six-month ban from driving this week after he was caught speeding at 154kmh on the N7 in Kildare last month. It was McGregor’s 12th driving conviction and the Lucan man was also fined €1,000 for speeding. When he apologised to the court, the fighter had said: “I didn’t know I was going that fast.” He also told reporters after the hearing: “Gotta drive safer.” McGregor insisted he would slow down his driving after his ban. Ms Murdock said she “would welcome Conor speaking out and acknowledging that it was completely inappropriate behaviour and it could have resulted in a serious collision and that it could have killed him, at that speed, in that area”. “I think Conor has been public about saying that he was sorry and obviously realises it will eventually catch up with you one way or the other,” she added. “You get off lightly if it’s just a court conviction. “Worst case scenario is you either kill yourself or somebody else out there on the road.” The RSA chief executive was speaking at the launch of its Christmas safety appeal.
END OF AN ERA: GOODBYE TOYOTA AVENSIS, AFTER 91,746 SALES
And so it is goodbye to the Toyota Avensis. Yes, the car that carried so many families, taxi passengers and God knows who/ what else for so long has passed into the history books. I asked distributors here how many new cars were left for sale and was told: “We have no more Avensis at all.” The spokeswoman was quick to point out, however, that they have a range of alternatives - including the new Camry and Corolla Saloon Sol - to replace it. The Avensis was built from October 1997 to last August. Remember the Carina E (with the Leanburn engine)? Well, it was a direct successor to that and came as a saloon, hatch and estate. Over its period on the Irish market, the number of new Avensis models sold, to the end of last month, came to the tidy total of 91,746, according to official Toyota figures the distributors provided me with. That’s a lot of cars, and a good proportion are still on the go, judging by the volume you see on the road. Toyota is now looking to the future and continuing its hybrid push with a look, for the likes of myself, at the new Corolla range, as well as the new RAV4 and Camry, in Dublin tomorrow. MORE SPEED EQUALS BIGGER FINES !
Penalties for motorists caught speeding will be determined by how fast they are caught driving under a proposed law to be considered by the Government today. Transport Minister Shane Ross is expected to bring an outline of the new law, the Road Traffic Bill 2018, to Cabinet. Under the current law all speeding motorists face the same penalties no matter how fast they are travelling when caught. Speeding results in a fine of €80 and three penalty points under the existing system. Non-payment can see offenders brought to court where they automatically get five penalty points on conviction and a fine of up to €1,000. The new bill will see penalties for speeding divided into bands with increased penalties determined by the bands and more serious offenders are to receive more serious penalties. It is understood that some of the penalties under the proposed law are still under consideration But one example of an increased penalty is motorists who are caught traveling between 10 and 20kmh over the limit would be fined €150 and get four penalty points. The bill also includes provisions for variable speed limits in a bid to ease traffic flow on major roads and allow for different speeds, depending on weather conditions. If approved by ministers, the bill is to be formally drafted. Mr Ross last month said that he would be bringing the proposed law to Cabinet within weeks.

TORQUING CARS! MOTORING SNIPPETS
Someone in Volkswagen should tell people within the organisation to talk to each other before they make public statements. A top exec was widely reported last week as saying the auto giant would make the last new vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (ICE) in 2026 and that everything after that would be focused on electric cars. However Frank Welsch, VW’s development chief, this week attempted to clarify those comments. “It is not correct to say we will stop developing internal combustion engines from 2026,” he said. “What I think has happened is that people were talking about the 2040 date widely talked about for stopping selling ICE cars in Europe and then worked backwards in a logical way. “But Europe is not the only market. Other regions have their own regulations and requirements, and I can see us developing more and more efficient ICE cars long beyond the quoted 2026 date.” This has created a lot of confusion, I think, because it suggests that last week’s report was true for Europe but not for many other markets. I think it all boils down to this: Sure, there will be a huge shift to making electric vehicles, and Volkswagen is gearing up massively for that. But, as another senior VW exec told me recently, they will still be making tens of millions of ICEs by the time EVs break the one-million-a-year mark in the mid-2020s (and that includes the European market). Last week’s announcement - by Volkswagen head of strategy Michael Jost - would seem to suggest, however, that even more ambitious EV targets are now being set for electric vehicles. That is to be expected, but they need to stop sending conflicting signals. People are planning on spending their hard-earned cash on the basis of what they think is coming down the line. And right now it is hard to say for sure what’s what. * Peugeot’s new Rifter will cost from €23,540 for the Active 1.5 BlueHDi 75bhp 5-seater. It comes with a five-year extended warranty as standard. There are two lengths, with five or seven seats. Meanwhile the company’s new Partner van will cost from €16,700 (€13,615 ex-VAT), the brand has announced. That is for the Access 1.6 BlueHDi 75bhp 650 KG level one model. It goes on sale in the new year. * The first standalone Dacia showroom in Ireland has been opened by Menapia Motors in Wexford following an investment of more than €1m. Best of luck. * Renault’s Megane Grand Coupe has been upgraded and given a new petrol engine. The firm is concentrating on the Easy Life line-up that has three trim levels and two engines, among which is the debut in this model of the new 1.3 TCe 140 petrol. It comes with a 6spd manual or 7spd EDC automatic. The 1.5dCi diesel gets more power and SCR technology to reduce NOx. It too has either a 6spd manual or 7spd auto. There is a five-year warranty on all versions. Prices start at €23,940 for the TCe 140 Play trim. The diesel dCi 115 kicks off at €25,870. * The Joe Duffy Group has just been appointed Volvo cars sales and after-sales partner for Athlone. It’s the second Volvo Cars dealership (Tuam Road and Airside) and 18th franchise appointment for the ever-expanding group. * The next-gen VW Golf is expected to be made in autumn 2019. The automaker has released a sketch that outlines an evolution of today’s hatch. It is expected to reach unprecedented levels of fuel-saving technology and connectivity. INDO MOTORING

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR 2018 THE SPORTING YEAR PART 1 At this time of the year we reflect on the year that is coming to an end and here we look back at the first 6 months. As we always say in Kerry there will never be a shortage of sport to take part in, enjoy watching and for those of us involved in the sporting media – and a Happy Christmas to all my fellow sporting scribes – always loads to report on. Once again there was lots to celebrate on the national and local fronts with the Kerry minors completing an amazing feat, Tralee hosting soccer’s Victory Shield with Northern Ireland seeing off the Republic, Scotland and Wales, basketball in the town on a huge high both at SuperLeague and schools level, rallying in the county bucking the national trend where it is struggling a little and many other sports that we will look back on this week and next. Again if you have a special memory that you want included then please email us at traleeadvertsier@gmail.com. And like in all walks of life sport in the town and the county has lost many good people during the year, those who were high profile and those who just volunteered for the love of their sport. So at this time I would like all our readers to take a moment to remember all those and in your head (not out loud as that might attract unwanted attention!) give them a virtual minutes applause for their contribution to the sporting landscape. Also at this stage I would like to thank my editor and this publication’s proprietor Chris Shortt along with Collette and all those who have contributed notes and news during the last 12 months. There is still room for more PRO’s to send in you notes so if I have not been covering your club or sport make it your New Year resolution to have your area of interest covered in our dedicated Tralee sporting column! So please enjoy the first part of my 2018 review of the sporting year covering January to May inclusive. You will probably be shaking your head and saying how did he forget this or that but I will try and get in as much as I can. JANUARY 2018 It was a good start to the year for

Fionn Fitzgerald and Philip Enright as the former was named as the Kerry captain while the later had a very productive Christmas period as he carried on the great success of Kerry jockey’s. Staying on the track and Kerry native Jerry Hannon became the Voice of Irish Racing taking over the track commentaries from the retiring Des Scahill. Kerry hurling, like this year, are involved in inter county hurling at this time of the year – I wonder how good an idea this is? Kerry face the big guns so hopefully they will again get some good games under their belt ahead of the bigger games ahead. And we remember last January when they had a memorable win over Cork in Austin Stacks Park. Rugby is another big sport in the county and Kerry continues to be well represented on both the women’s international side and the men’s game at provincial level. Ballymac’s Ciara Griffin had the honour of captaining her country in the Six Nations. While it’s a busy time on the basketball courts all around the country nowhere are they busier than in Castleisland where the 48th St Mary’s Blitz took place. It continues to be the biggest in the country and Blitz 49 tips off on December 26th. January is Cup Finals time and St Mary’s Ladies were the stars taking the Hula Hoops NICC Cup. It was the opposite feeling for Tralee girls Meadbh Barry and Laura Hoffman who were on the losing Killester side. There were defeats as well for Keanes Killorglin and CBS The Green in a game where St Malachy’s CJ Fulton hit an amazing 15 three pointers. In rallying Paul Nagle set out on another WRC season that did not go as planned while Firies native Richard Browne continues to be one of the top motor sport engineers with Volkswagen. Pat O’Driscoll from Clonakilty won the Jimmy Devane Autocross that took place at the perfectly suited Ballybeggan course. Soccer in 2018 was in the middle of its traditional seasons with Kerry clubs battling on a number of national fronts. In the National League Billy Dennehy signed for Limerick FC but he was unable to keep them in the Premier division. He also became involved with Friday 14th December 2018
the Kerry 17’s League of Ireland management and later in the year began working with the Schoolboys Girls League. In cycling much of the action was off the track with Duagh’s Larry O’Connor being named as the Volunteer of the Year. On the bike and Killarney were crowned the National Cyclocross Champions. The coursing season was in full swing with Silent Whisper one of the big winners taking the Corn Na Feile Cup. He would go on to win the Boylesports Derby in Clonmel in February. Over Christmas Sam John James was one of the big winners at the Ballybeggan meet. On the track Clounbrane Kerry was the winner of the Kingdom Greyhound Supporters A3 final. Tralee Harriers had another very good year on the Athletics front and opened their season with a haul of medals at the Munster Junior / u23, Juvenile and Youth championships. It was a tough year for Kerry Ladies football on and off the field and in January they failed to elect an executive. Later they would be relegated and also were deducted points following an administrative error. However with Sean Walsh taking over and a new management team now bedded in 2019 promises to be a much better year for the ladies. In badminton, a sport that for some reason is not huge in Tralee, James Flaherty won back-to-back county senior championships. FEBRUARY 2018 Kerry GAA will look back at 2018 with mixed feelings on the senior front. It all started positively in the League when an experimental side defeated Mayo in the League in Castlebar resplendent in a new gold away strip! However a narrow defeat to Monaghan followed. The Kerry hurlers went down to Carlow in their League opener but bounced back with a good win over Kildare. Kerry camogie had another good season and in February saw off Clare in the Littlewoods League. Garvey’s Tralee Warriors were having a good season under Marc Bernsen and notched up their 7th Superleague win in a row when they saw off Killester in the always packed Sports Complex. Kerry soccer’s interest in the FAI Junior Cup ended when Killarney Celtic went out at home to North
End United from Wexford – a team we will mention again later in the years review. On the League of Ireland front the Kerry squads at 15’s and 17’s were selected. With women’s soccer being the fastest growing sport the WNL at senior and underage level continues to develop at pace. Hannah O’Donoghue signed for Cork City Ladies becoming one of four Kerry ladies playing at the top level. The others are Savannah McCarthy who is also at Cork with the Horgan sisters Rebecca and Aoife playing with Limerick. MARCH 2018 Munster rugby’s new signing Mike Haley has a strong Tralee connection. The former Sale full back’s mother Vivien is from the town. Kerry were well beaten in Croke Park and then went down to Tyrone while in Colleges football St Brendan’s College Killarney captured the Frewen Cup. On the basketball courts all three Kerry sides reached the play off stages of the National Leagues. Garvey’s were joint top after the regular season with 15 wins from their 20 games. The soccer scene had a weekend off thanks to the Beast from the East and Storm Emma. But there was also some good news with Sean Kennedy, ex Tralee Dynamos, made the last 3 of the u15 International Player of the Year Awards. The year would prove to be a very good one for the young player who is now playing cross channel. It was also a happy time for the 20 players who were named on the Kennedy Cup panel under Head Coach Joe O’Reilly. In the Lacey Cup the new March date proved to be a big success with honours going to Matteo Cigala. The Jackie O’Connor Cup was won by Kieran Coggins with Cigala taking the Teddy Griffin Cup and Ken Cummins from Middleton taking the A4 Eddie Lacey Cup. A member of that great Lacey cycling family Sean continued the great start made by the new Viner Caremark Pactimo team by taking the win in the Bobby Power Memorial race on St Patrick’s Day and then took third in the opening round of the National Road series. In rallying Kerry based crews from both the KDMC and Kerry Motor Club had a new championship to compete for with the launch of the Moriarty’s Centra Farranfore Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship. There was good news for Tralee Golf Course as it was named at number 6 in the Top 100 Ranked Golf Courses in Ireland. There were great celebrations for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors as the retained their Champions Trophy beating UCD in the last four and then seeing off Black Amber Templeogue in the final in Waterford. To add to the celebrations Trae Pemberton and Kieran Donaghy made the All Star Team. Keanes Supervalu Killorglin

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER ended their season as Division 1 champions and moved into the SuperLeague later in the year. The Tralee Marathon attracted a huge field of over 700 runners. On the boxing from Tralee’s Jonathan McCarthy won a Munster title on a Tuesday night and on the following Saturday night he booked his place in the All Ireland decider joining his twin cousins Mike and Patrick McCarthy. There was lots to cheer about in Cheltenham with Dingle’s Jack Kennedy to the fore. On the soccer front St Brendan’s Parks great run in the Munster Junior Cup came to an end as they lost out away to Dungarvan in the semi-final. APRIL 2018 The various County Football Championships began with many clubs entertaining dreams of glory. The Kerry minors, under Peter Keane set out on their history making run with Tipperary their first victims. The defeat by Westmeath sent the Kerry Ladies down to Division 2 for the 2019 season. This saw manager Graham Shine step down. To the team’s credit they then ran the powerful Dublin close in their last Division 1 game. Kerry boxing was celebrating with Trojan’s Sean Walsh winning his third All Ireland title in a year. He added the Boy 4 80kg title to his other successes. Kerry soccer bowed out of the Oscar Traynor when they went down 2-1 in injury time away to Sligo/Leitrim. There was also heartbreak for the Park who lost out 1-0 to St Kevin’s Boys in the semi-final of the FAI Youth Cup at Christy Leahy Park. The Tralee Ladies rugby team won the Munster Women’s Rugby Development League after drawing 17-17 with Ballincolling but getting the nod as they scored the first try of the game. Sadly they lost out to St Mary’s College in their bid to make it into the All Ireland Women’s League. The Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry rally using stages to the West of Tralee proved to be a huge success with competitors and spectators. Donagh Kelly and Conor Foley took the win in their Ford Focus WRC. The James O’Rourke Trophy for the first Kerry Motor Club home was won by Mike Quinn and Tony Healy. Mega successful Ballymac owner, breeder and trainer Liam Dowling was inducted into the National Greyhound Hall of Fame. The Tralee Imperials u16 Girls under coach Martin Conway returned home from Dublin as All Ireland champions. They defeated Meteors in the decider which was a just reward for this bunch of girls who had been close at u14’s. Conor Hennebry will certainly look back on his trips to Kerry in 2018 with great pride. He was a very impressive of the hotly contested Kerry Group Ras Mumhan at Easter. This is now one of the top races in the country attracting an
international peloton. He then added the John Drumm race to his growing list of race wins. MAY 2108 Garvey’s Tralee Warriors move quickly to appoint a new coach with the vastly experienced Pat Price taking the hot seat. Kerry GAA were also announcing a new appointment with Maurice O’Meara coming on board as a full time commercial fundraiser. O’Meara was well known in golfing circles from his time at Killarney and Dooks golf clubs. On the hurling front Darren Dineen retired from the County scene. The Kerry minors had to endure a scare at home to Cork where they held on for a 1 point win. The Kerry hurlers went down to Carlow in the Joe McDonagh 1st Round and then lot to Westmeath. The Kerry u14 Girls claimed their 3rd Munster title in a row. Mercy Mounthawk 1st years were edged out in the final of the All Ireland League. Tralee youngster Leo Gaxha began his professional soccer career by signing for Sheffield United. After another very successful Cartell.ie Rally of the Lakes the honours went to the Donegal duo of Manus Kelly and Donal Barrett in their Subaru Impreza WRC. The Junior rally was won by Killarney’s Colin O’Donoghue and Eddie Doherty. Mercy Mounthawk proved to be the top athletics school retaining the Shield at the Kerry Colleges Track and Field Championships. The Park’s u14’s won the SFAI Regional Trophy with this squad having won the title at u13’s the previous season. In one of the biggest nights at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Packing Heat won the Lee Strand 550. SHORTENED NOTES: Polar Plunge proves popular: There was a great crowd in Fenit on Sunday morning for the Polar Plunge in aid of the Special Olympics. The Tralee Bay Swimming club have announced details of their 65th Annual Christmas Day Swim. As always the swim will be at 12 noon and the collection will go to the Fenit RNLI. They welcome Moycullen to the Tralee Sports Complex on Saturday night at 7.30. The Tralee side are joint 4th but have games in hand on those above them while Moycullen are struggling with only 2 wins from 10 games. Parnell’s News: It will be a unique sporting occasion today when Mercy Mounthawk face CBS The Green in the Munster Schools Senior E Hurling Cup Final. The game throws in at 12.30 with Mounthawk having beaten Meanscoil San Nicolas and The Green Mount Sion to reach the decider. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 5,10,17 and 20 and the jackpot the following week was e7,700. Ballymac Strictly Love Dancing contestants are putting in the hours ahead of the big show on Saturday January 26th at the Ballygarry Hotel. Tickets are now on sale for what will be another great night. The Senior Team Management for 2019 is in place. Once again we are very grateful to our own Frank O’Rahilly who will manage the Senior team for 2019. He will be ably assisted by former selector Tom O’Shea and two new selectors Ruraí O’Rahilly and George Savage. The club was cheering on Mullinalaghta St Columba’s from Longford after they pulled off one of the shocks of the season. Donal and Aidan McElligott are on the team and are sons of former Ballymac player Dan and nephews of Liam. Next up will be a clash with Dr Crokes. LIXNAW TURKEY TROT: Lixnaw turkey trot takes this place this year again the village of Lixnaw on Sunday 23rd December at 11am. It’s a short fun 5km walk, run or trot for people of all ages and abilities. There’s no officially timing for the Turkey trot. Just like last year, there is an entry fee and all monies raised will be going to the Tralee Together Special Olympics Club and registration is open online. GAA MASTER FIXTURE LIST: This has been published for 2019 with no major changes to the Allianz Leagues as 2019 is Year 2 of a 2 year cycle. Once again, the month of April will be a club month entirely clear of inter-county activity. One potential change to the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship for 2019 has been a request to Central council to consider granting deviation from Rule 6.28 to allow for Phase 1 quarter-finals to be home games for the provincial champions with Phase 2 games being in Croke Park. For the 2019 Quarter final group stage Kerry will be in Group 1: Munster winners, Ulster winners, Leinster runners up (or Rd 4 winner), Connacht runners-up (or Rd 4 winner). The CCCC has proposed an U20 Football Development League competition to be played in May and early June which would guarantee each county at least four games in a development league plus one championship match. KERINS O’RAHILLYS LOTTO: There was no winner from the numbers drawn 4,16,22 and 29 and the next jackpot will be e3600. The tickets are on sale from all the usual outlets. ON THE GREEN – Tralee GC: The only action at the Tralee Golf Club was the Scotch Foursomes with Kieran Dinan and Kieran T Dinan winning from Dermot Walsh and Billy Morrissey.

OBITUARY... Vincent O’Brien VINCENT O’BRIEN Late of Mitchel’s Road and Ballyconnell Close Kilflynn Vincent was one of life’s true gentlemen always had a smile for everyone left a devastating void in the lives of his loving family, his wife Kathleen, son Martin, daughters Rachel and Taylor, stepdaughter Deborah, grand-daughters Riah and Amber, His mother Mary, sisters Deirdre, Geraldine and Simone, brothers in law Gerard (nibs) Tom and John, sister in law Maureen, nieces and nephews and many many friends. Vincent was predeceased by his father Vincent senior. Vincent was born in Brentwood England on the 11th October 1959 and went to school in St. Helen’s Brentwood. At the age of 10 he moved to Kerry with his family where they set up home in Mitchel’s Road, it is there he befriended two of his life long friends Gerard (nibs) Nammock and the late Peter (Scottie) O’Sullivan. They would meet regularly for a few pints and a few games of snooker or pool, little did he know then that a few years later he would be asking his friend Gerard (nibs) for the hand of his sister Kathleen in marriage. Where they went on to spend many happy years together. Vincent was very popular with everyone and was well known. He started working at a very young age always put his family first, he could put his
hands to anything so worked in numerous places but his true passion was anything to do with engines or had wheels. He worked as a taxi driver for a period of time but spent a lot of his life in Ardfert Quarry where he befriended many friends on the road but unfortunately became redundant when things went quiet. Vincent was lucky enough to start a new career in the coach business, he worked for Rose Travel then Kavanaghs where he befriended many more people while travelling the length and breadth of the country and abroad when doing the ski trips but Vincent was a devoted family man and preferred to be closer to home so he was very fortunate to get work with O’Sheas of Kerry, this was where he was most happiest. John O’Shea and his family welcomed Vincent and made him part of theirs. Vincent was very dedicated to his job always had to be organised and planned for his tours away but most importantly a cup of tea in hand. Vincent flourished in his job, loved the banter and craic with all his passengers and tour guides regardless of what country they came from, whether they spoke English or not Vincent had a smile for everyone. It was through O’Sheas that Vincent had
the opportunity of making life long friends all over the world, but he always looked forward to coming home to be with his family they were the most important thing in his world. He loved nothing more than spending time with them especially his mum Mary, they loved and enjoyed each others company and would spend many hours together drinking tea and watching the snooker, darts etc. on the TV. Vincent’s other passions in life were watching his favourite team Chelsea play, playing cards in one of his locals where he would be proud bringing home the breakfast or especially the Sunday roast when he won, singing where he was known to give a tune or two his favourite being “two sweethearts” (a group of young soldiers) and most of all Elvis Presley. Vincent was looking forward to and had planned to spend his 60th birthday in Graceland with his wife Kathleen, brother in law Gerard (nibs) and friend Helen wife of the late peter (Scottie) but unfortunately God had other plans for him. Vincent will now begin his new career with a new company started by the late Sean O’Shea called Kerry head Heavenly Tours where he will join former drivers and friends. Vincent was one of a kind with a heart of gold and a smile
that would light up any room. As an organ donor he will live on in the lives of his two recipients. He will be truly sorely missed by all his loving family at home and away, all of his work colleagues and his many many friends at home and abroad. Rest In Peace Vince until we meet again x x x x The family would like to thank the staff in KUH especially the Paramedics and the ICU DEPT., the Organ Donation Team, Mc Elligotts Funeral Home and his many many friends for everything
