Over 72 Free events at upcoming Cruinniú na nÓg youth festival.
Creative Ireland Kerry and the Kerry County Council’s Arts Office are excited to present a wide array of free events for children and young people across Kerry for this year’s Cruinniú na nÓg.
Cruinniú na nÓg, a nationwide celebration, takes place on Saturday, 15th June, offering a host of FREE creative activities for children and young people. Emma Carmody, Kerry’s Creative Communities Engagement Officer, with support from the Arts Office team, has organized 72 free events throughout the county. “We are thrilled with the variety of creative, fun-filled activities available for children and young people aged 0-18,” said Emma.
Earlier this year, the Arts Office at Kerry County Council consulted extensively with young people to shape this year’s Cruinniú na nÓg programme based on their feedback. Nationally, Cruinniú na
nÓg encourages young people to ‘Dare to create’. The Kerry Creative Ireland Office also invited artists and creatives to contribute ideas. Emma noted, “The 72 events reflect the diverse creative skills in Kerry and the interests of our youth.”
This year’s programme offers something for all ages and creative interests, including STEAM workshops, pottery, felting, printing, dance, music, theatre workshops and performances, creative writing, comic book workshops, painting, puppet making, and circus skills training.
“I am delighted to see so many quality events available for free, allowing children and young people to engage in creative activities,” said Arts Officer and Creative Ireland Coordinator, Kate Kennelly. “We hope many families and young people will participate and enjoy connecting with creativity.”
The brochure for all Kerry events can
be downloaded here, and all events are listed on the national Creative Ireland website here.
Please share with friends, family, and especially young people!
This programme is organized by the Creative Ireland Kerry Office at the
Kerry County Council Arts Office and funded by Creative Ireland through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
Kerry College’s Media course ‘National Importance ‘ as Praised in Dáil Éireann
Kerry College’s Content Development for Film and Television course, launched in September 2023, received high praise in Dáil Éireann during the JOINT COMMITTEE ON TOURISM, CULTURE, ARTS, SPORT AND
MEDIA this week.
Brendan Griffin, TD, lauded the course for its national importance and for setting a new standard in regional education. “Kerry College’s course is of national importance, setting a standard for the type
of education we need to roll out regionally. There are 14 graduate students from across the country participating,” Griffin noted. He highlighted the dedicated team behind the course, including Owen O’Donnell, Con O’Sullivan, John Herlihy, and Gerard Barrett, a director, writer, and producer. Griffin expressed interest in replicating such courses nationwide, acknowledging contributions from Maurice Sweeney, Chairman of the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland, who teaches in Tralee. “Significant players are involved in this course, setting a template for others. It builds on over 30 years of work by Kerry College in film and television,” Griffin added. The meeting included officials and representatives from Screen Producers Ireland, Animation Ireland, Ardmore and Troy Studios, Telegael, and Ardán. Industry leaders echoed
Griffin’s sentiments, highlighting the course’s impact on the Irish film and television industry. The course aims to equip learners with essential skills and knowledge in content development and screenwriting for film and television.
Elaine Geraghty, managing director of Ardmore Studios and Troy Studios, praised the course, suggesting Kerry College could serve a wider region. Gar O’Brien-Collins, Western Region Audiovisual Production executive, emphasized the course’s importance. Kerry College announced that the course will run again in September 2024. Applications are now open, with only 14 places available. Prospective students can visit the Kerry College website or CDFTV.com for more information. Application and studio tours are currently open. For further details, contact Kerry College.

We are moving closer to the 7th of June when a long suffering people existing under the yoke of a repressive and authoritarian government, will at last have their say. This will be a dress rehearsal for the general election which could occur at any time, but the local and European elections are hugely significant in their own right.
We are up against professional rogues, people who have learned the art of telling you a direct lie while looking at you straight in the eye. They will appeal to you as a person rather than as a party, hardly surprising given the perceived toxicity of all present political parties in the Dail. These are the professional survivors, arch manipulators, the orchestrators of our countries slide towards oblivion. They will shamelessly knock on your door, deliberately being economical with the truth, but promiscuous with lies and empty promises. They do however need your vote. We need to make sure we deny them that. Remember these are the same people that called you “Far Right” to beat you into submission.
Remember voting for a person that is a member of a party, is exactly the same as voting for that party. You may like that individual, however in voting for them you are voting for all the baggage associated with their party.
All these party candidates had the option of standing as independents/ nationalists. They could have stood on their own two feet to represent the people. They chose not to, so deny them all sympathy. They are cowards.
Promote the independent/ nationalist, as for the most part their names are not well known. Tell your contacts that you will give independent/ nationalist candidate X number 1 but independent/ nationalist candidate Y your number 2. Encourage transfers to work in our favour.
Transfers win or lose elections. They allow lesser known or unpopular party candidates to move up the rankings and overtake independent candidates slowly but surely. These people usually scrape in without
even reaching a quota, trailing in on party branding to make up the numbers of ‘yes men’.
We do not want it happening this time. The best strategy is to deny established party affiliates any transfer of oxygen. Simply do not vote for them. Vote only for those whose views align with yours. Leave the rest blank.
Resist giving your lower preferences to establishment party affiliated people who will garner enough transfers to allow them to overtake an independent candidate for perhaps the last seat. If there is only one person that you can trust standing in a local election area, vote for that person and nobody else. If you give somebody else your second preference that preference could determine who will be elected if your candidate is eliminated.
Make proportional representation work for us by ONLY VOTING FOR THOSE THAT YOU CAN TRUST.
The future of this country is in your hands. Decide wisely my friends.

Election candidate Angie thanks you for your responses on the doorstep!
“Hello, I’m Angie Baily, daughter of Therese Baily and the late Paddy Joe Baily from Ballymac. I have met many of you on my canvassing trail over the past five months. Some of you may have been out when I called. I want to thank you for engaging with me and telling me your story at the door. Learning from you, the local people, is imperative to the work of the local council. I know the issues that are important to you and, if elected, will use my voice, my background in education and my energy to bring the changes requested by you.
The changes you highlighted include:
1. Improve awareness of and accessibility to women’s health services and mental health
services.
2. Advocate for access to education for all children.
3. Facilities and outlets for teenagers and young people.
4. More homes for purchase and rent for single people and young families.
5. Improve transportation links within Tralee and to university towns.
6. Capitalise on the Wild Atlantic Way to support local businesses and promote tourism in Tralee and surrounding areas.”

Tralee local election candidate Anne O’Sullivan welcomes funding of almost €200,000 for Tralee.
Tralee local election candidate Anne O’Sullivan has welcomed funding of almost €200,000 for Tralee town centre.
The funding is being provided to Kerry County Council to help renovate and reuse publicly owned vacant or derelict heritage buildings in Tralee.
Tralee will receive around €197,000 under the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme, which is co-funded by the government and
the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund.
Tralee local election candidate Anne O’Sullivan said: “It is great to see that Tralee is included in the list of 26 towns across the country to benefit from this initiative. This will help Kerry County Council to identify the wonderful heritage buildings in Tralee which need to be preserved, enhanced or transformed. It will support the excellent work already being done by Kerry County Council.”
This first tranche of funding will help
Kerry County Council to identify suitable renovation projects in Tralee and Killarney and ensure they are ready to commence capital works. The next tranche of funding from the scheme will support those capital works.
Ms O’Sullivan said: “Tralee as a place to live, work in and grow old in is a vision that I am highlighting as part of my local election campaign and I believe this funding will strongly contribute to achieving that.”

From our initial consultation with Keith, who took as much time as was necessary to understand our needs and explain the best solutions, to the installation itself, we couldn’t have been in better hands every step of the way. All the work was completed and the teams gone by the time we got home from work/school, so Keith actually came back the following day to talk us through the app and show us how to get the most out of it. Thanks to all the team at Green Energy Ireland for a very good customer experience." - John & Deirdre, Killarney
" I was a small bit dubious about the cost v bene ts aspect of moving to Solar PV, but after having met with Green Energy Ireland, who went to great lengths to ensure that I understood all the elements, I knew I was in good hands and had chosen the right partner for this part of our home upgrade project. Keith was always available, and everybody from the roofers to the electricians ensured we were kept in the loop and up to date on all the moving parts. We very much appreciated your patience and thank you for a really ne piece of work." - Maurice & family, Mallow

When Donals Challenge started, the rains stopped!
Despite less favorable weather than in previous years, a huge crowd turned out for the ‘Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge’ hosted by Spa N.S. on Sunday, May 26th. The event honored Donal, a past pupil of the school.
“We wanted to honor Donal in a special way, and our team of loyal volunteers and sponsors worked exceptionally hard despite the challenging conditions to create a fun and unifying event, just as Donal urged us all to do,” said school principal Peter Linehan. He also praised the Parents Association for their tireless efforts in ensuring the day ran smoothly.
Over five hundred people braved a few rain showers to attend the event, which featured a bustling market organized by the students. Sixth graders hosted fun games and
challenges, while the crowd enjoyed an exciting rocket competition.
The Parents Association provided a delightful food court with burgers, teas, treats, and ice creams. Local musician Ian O’Doherty entertained with lively music, and street performer Ronaldo Fanzini had everyone laughing with his comedy show.
The main event, the ‘Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge,’ was a looped run/walk starting and finishing at the school. Donal’s parents, Fionbarr and Elma, officially started the race. The atmosphere was wonderful as participants enthusiastically tackled the course. Oisín Spillane finished first in the men’s section, followed by Eddie O’Connor and David Chute. Siobhán Daly took first place in the women’s section, with Deirdre Curtin and Emma Guiney
close behind. Cheers and applause greeted all the finishers.
Elma Walsh expressed her delight: “We are thrilled to celebrate the

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !
A MAN WALKS INTO A BAR
A man walks into a bar and orders six whiskies. He lines them up in a row and knocks back the first, third, and fifth glasses. Then he gets up to leave.
“ Don’t you want the others?” asks the barman.”You’ve only had three of your whiskies.” “Best not” replies the man, “My doctor said it was only okay to have the odd drink.”
A MAGICIAN WAS WORKING ON A CRUISE SHIP
“Both of my children have attended Tralee Sports Centre Camps for the past number of years. Not only have they made lifelong friendships but they have many wonderful memories.
As a parent I love that they are safe, well cared for and are actually looking forward to spending time doing physical activity and away from technology”. Karen, Kilmoyley
MY EX MADE THIS FACEBOOK STATUS ABOUT HOW SHE FEELS LIKE SOMEONE IS WATCHING HER...
IN THE CARIBBEAN. THE AUDIENCE WOULD BE DIFFERENT EACH WEEK, SO THE MAGICIAN ALLOWED HIMSELF TO DO THE SAME TRICKS OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
There was only one problem, the captain’s parrot saw the shows every week and began to understand what the magician did in every trick.
“I have been very impressed with the Activity Camps run at Tralee Sports Complex. They are extremely well organised and supervised by Hayley and the children get to participate in a safe environment. The children really like the range of activities provided and always come away happy and looking forward to the next day”
Once he understood that, he started shouting in the middle of the show:
A grateful Grandparent,Tralee
...but I’ve been following her around all week and I can guarantee no one is stalking her.
“The Summer Camp was super!!! Kids LOVED it. We came down from Dublin for it and stayed the week. Hayley was super kind and helpful!!! Leonie, Dublin
“Look, it’s not the same hat!”
“Look, he’s hiding the flowers under the table!”
“Hey, why are all the cards the Ace of Spades ?”
A GUY TOOK HIS BLONDE GIRLFRIEND TO HER FIRST FOOTBALL GAME...
“My kids love the Tralee Sports Complex camps. They look forward to going every day and especially love the swimming and games” Aileen, Ballymac
After the game, he asked her if she liked it. She replied, “it was fun but I don’t see why they made such a big fuss over 25 cents.”
The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything; it was the captain’s parrot, after all.
“Highly recommend to anyone who wants a well-rounded camp for your child. The growth in self-confidence is amazing” Marian, Tralee
The guy asked, “What do you mean?”
And she said, “Well, at the beginning of the game, they flipped a coin and someone took it, and for the rest of the game, they kept shouting ‘Get the quarter back! Get the quarter back!’”
DONALD TRUMP IS BOARDING AIR FORCE ONE
When all of a sudden, an assassin jumps out and points the gun at Trump. A member of the secret service sees this and yells, “Mickey Mouse!” This startles the would-be assassin so much that it gives the other agents time to apprehend him. While the agents interrogate the assassin, Donald Trump pulls the agent aside and says, “ Why did you yell Mickey Mouse when you saw the assassin?” The agent says, “Well, I got nervous and meant to say Donald Duck.”
One day the ship had an accident and sunk. The magician found himself on a piece of wood in the middle of the ocean, and of course the parrot was by his side. They stared at each other with hate, but did not utter a word. This went on for several days.
After a week the parrot finally said: “Okay, I give up. What’d you do with the boat?”
I STARTED DATING THIS BLONDE CHICK LAST NIGHT.
“Do you have any kids?” she asked.
“Yes,” I replied.
“I have one child that’s just under two.”
She said, “I might be blonde, but I know how many one is.”
