LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Doreen was applying for rented accommodation and when she said that she had two children. The agent said that the landlord did not want any children in the apartment. She also admitted she would be using the HAP scheme and the landlord apparently was refusing to take any tenants other than tenants who paid directly without the HAP. The Equality Legislation in Ireland specifically deals with the issues that Doreen has outlined above. Under the Equal status acts no service provider including landlords can discriminate against anybody on 10 grounds, Race, Age Gender, disability, membership of the travelling community, religion, family status, marital status, sexual orientation, or a more recent social housing ground which would include people using the social housing support HAP. There are certain exceptions e.g., purely one religion establishments for example Maynooth seminary. However, the exceptions are for specific reasons e.g., positive discrimination. The legislation allows Doreen to take a case against the Agent and/or landlord or both in relation to the two types of Discrimination she suffered. Discrimination is treating a person less favourably than another person was, is or would be treated. Doreen was obviously being excluded from access to this rented accommodation to which a childless professional person would have access to so she can apply through the workplacerelations commission to bring an equality case. Prior to that she needs to serve a notice that she is going to bring the complaint within 2 months of the incident to allow the agent and landlord to sort it out. This initial notice is downloadable from the WRC website . If she gets no redress, she must bring her claim to the workplace relations commission within 6 months on the complaint form that can be filled out on the site and sent in virtually. She would fill out the two grounds on which she had been discriminated family status which is whether she had children and the social housing ground on the basis that the landlord was refusing HAP. There have been a number of these cases brought before the WRC and many of them are sorted out by mediation without ever going to full hearing. It is clear from the caselaw where blatant discrimination is often exhibited by the respondent parties that without bringing these kind of claims discrimination will often continue to be levied on people. By bringing a claim Doreen can help ensure that what happened to her does not happen to other people availing of similar services. The WRC has the potential to levy lump sum orders up to €15,000 so a successful claim can have a severe impact on the service provider. A similar situation applies in the employment sector where one cannot be discriminated in accessing employment, while in employment or if going for promotion on any of 9 grounds all the above excluding the social housing ground. See www.workplacerelations.ie and www.ihrec.ie for more information. Minister Foley announces over €1.5 million in Digital funding for 159 Kerry schools Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley has this week announced significant ICT funding for schools across Kerry to support the use of digital technologies within the classroom. This funding will issue to primary and secondary schools around the county in the form of grant payments, allowing schools flexibility in the use of the funding. The funding is paid depending on a school’s enrolment. For example, a primary school
with 100 pupils will receive €8,000 under this scheme and a secondary school with 500 students will receive €22,311. This funding was secured as part of a major investment programme for the Department of Education in the Government’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) approved by the European Council. Minister Foley said: “All of our children and young people must be prepared to learn, work and live in a digital world. This is particularly true
in a county such as Kerry where remote working and online connectivity offer huge opportunity. “School communities made incredible strides in digital teaching and learning during the pandemic. An enormous effort was made by teachers and students, and a huge amount has been learned. This funding will support schools to maximise their capacity to engage fully with digital technology and development of digital skills. “The enhanced investment
under the NRRP will advance greatly the efforts to ensure that technology and infrastructure is in place to support teaching and learning in the classroom across all schools and ensure inclusion of all learners.”

The children’s store is a one stop shop for kids’ clothes and gifts from newborn to 12 years, stocking a range of fashionable and functional clothing at a very reasonable price. Irish family-owned business, Mods & Minis, owner Deirdre McCloskey speaks to Chris in The Tralee Advertiser about how they provide a welcoming and safe clothing store given the challenges posed by COVID-19. “Our brand is all about giving a quality item at a reasonable price,” tells Deirdre. Adding, “Seasonal clothing is always popular here with party dresses, loads of occasional wear for gifting, very pretty
long-sleeved tops and dresses. Since lockdown we have noticed an increase in popularity of our basic type clothing like sweatpants, tracksuits, and our Davina leggings for girls, which are great quality and value and made with organic cotton too.”Mods & Mini’s are now operating a call and collect service from their store, including the service of a present picker and shopping by appointment.
“We have personal shopper assistants, so if somebody is concerned about coming in, they can phone Alison, our manager and she will organise the rest even down to the gift wrapping”, Deirdre says. Covid -19 lockdowns and restrictions has had an impact on many customers
but especially on those who are making their Holy Communion. Communion dresses launch date is Tuesday 28th December at 2pm by appointment only. Appointments can be booked over the phone. On a final note, Deirdre concludes with, “Our staff have been doing great work since we reopened after lockdown and are in
store daily from 9.30am to 6pm including Sundays in the run up to Christmas. We really appreciate the continued support of our customers in these times”.Anyone looking to get in touch with Mods & Minis can phone the Tralee store on 066 7121647 or follow on Instagram; Facebook or online www.modsandminis.ie .

Scores from Calixte, Jokubaitis and Crowe, and with Moycullen in foul trouble,
a selection of free throws in the final quarter added some gloss to the final score of 7762 to see the Warriors safely through to another Cup semifinal date with DBS Éanna. Local Artist Sally Ryle, Makes her Mark! A new Art exhibition has opened to the public at Siamsa Tire entitled ‘ Make your Mark’ Like many cultural centres around the world Siamsa closed it’s doors in March 2020.. During that time it decided to refresh its visual identity. During lockdown we returned to our metaphorical well to rejuvenate and draw inspiration , solace ans sustenance for the soul. The metaphor of the Well from which we all draw became the focal point . Working with designers the final artwork emerged as an image of the well. In addition to the well further seasonal themes were added transforming into Earth, Wind , Fire and water .
To coincide with this Siamsa Tíre called on professional Artists to contribute to this new exhibition with the criteria being that they must be fine Art prints made using traditional printmaking techniques such as woodcut, etching, engraving, litography ans screen printing which are inspired by one or more of the 4 elements. The resulting hand crafted Artwork for the refreshed brand identity along with the artistic process is now being displayed alongside the stunning pieces submitted by these Artists . Exhibition runs until January 15th daily from 10am- 4pm except Tuesdays and Sundays and is well worth a visit

Congratulations to Manor Barbers! By Georgie Downes
It’s not every day you get to celebrate fourteen years in business but that’s exactly what Peter O Donoghue from Manor Barbers is doing this week. After successfully navigating the trials of theCovid pandemic, he and his staff are all set for another fourteen years of successful haircutsand outstanding styles. Peter is an experienced hand at cutting hair, both with scissors and machine, having done his initial training in Limerick many years ago. In fact, all four of his staff are fully trained in the art of classic men’s barbering and can accommodate everything from mullets to mohawks to undercuts and textured crops. He has seen many trends come and go, so he knows a thing or two about men’s attitude towards personal grooming. “Definitely, men are becoming more and more interested in looking sharp. Especially the young men. The fade is still the most asked-for cut and a good old fashioned wet shave is as popular as ever,” he says. His customers,
he tells me proudly, range from one year old to 94. Re-oping after lockdown was probably one of the most challenging things he has ever had to do in his professional life, and not because after six months of unbridled growth, everyone’s hair was turning full-on Yeti. No. The most demanding thing was negotiating the new protocols associated with social distancing and making sure all his customers were hosted in a safe and comfortable environment. “We did a lot to make sure it worked. Shifting from walkins to appointments was a big change but now we’re on the Nearcut app and things are easier. Nearcut provides specialised booking software, specifically for barbers, in a handy, downloadable app. “It’s gone down really well with our customers.” Manor Barbers is now offering walk-in appointments again so anyone in that area needing a great haircut for Christmas, give him shout. You will be in excellent
hands! Check out their FB page @themanorbarbers. While we’re on the subject, here are some interesting facts about barbers (all before Peter’s time of course!) In the 17th century, barbers were surgeons, cutting both hair and flesh...well they had the tools. The striped barber pole outside a barber shop derived
from the bloody bandages out to dry after surgery. Nice. Surgery was actually banned in many places, so barbers were a hot commodity Barbers performed castrations. Ouch. Barbers administered enemas. What?

Francie finally gets his Christmas song!
Christmas Night is released this week , on Wednesday the 8th of December, John Lennon’s anniversary. The seeds for this Christmas song were sown when Francie was with RCA Records, London. It was customary at that time for rock artists to record a Christmas song and as Francie knew Noddy Holder from Slade and Chris Rea at this time, who both wrote Christmas songs, it was always at the back of his mind to try it sometime…Francies son Rory also appears on vocals in this wonderful song ...Check it out on Youtube now ! Nathan wont let the grass grow under his feet in the Chamber! Nathan McDonnell – managing director of Ballyseedy has been elected as the new President of Tralee Chamber Alliance. Ballyseedy is a premium food, lifestyle and plants brand employing 150 people in Tralee, Cork and Limerick. The flagship store in Tralee was established in 1992 by Nathan’s mother Bernie. A very proud Tralee man Nathan is married to Jackie and they have 3 young boys. Nathan takes over from Kevin McCarthy, managing director of the Garvey Group having been elected at last weeks AGM which took place online. Following his election Mr McDonnell said: “I’m delighted to accept the role of President of Tralee Chamber Alliance.
I’ve watched the Chamber Alliance grow in stature over the last few years and I believe it’s a really important entity for the town. Kevin McCarthy has been a great president and it’s an honour to take over from him. The chamber has been a reliable source of information during the pandemic and there have been lots of positive initiatives and projects over the last few years. It’s vitally important that local business’s support the Chamber so we can continue to deliver these initiatives and drive economic activity. A prosperous town will benefit everyone. Tralee is a fantastic town with massive potential but we need to get better at telling our story to the world. We need more
jobs and industry but we can’t sit on our hands waiting for them to find us. We need to be more proactive about reaching out to companies and selling the benefits of Tralee. This is what I’d like to see the Chamber focus on during my tenure.” Speaking following the AGM, outgoing president Kevin McCarthy said: It has been a real privilege to represent the Tralee Chamber board and serve as president over the past two years. It has been a particularly challenging time for businesses and the chamber had a vital role to play through communicating and offering support across all sectors here in Tralee and North Kerry. Tralee
Chamber has maintained a strong membership base which shows the appetite that the people of Tralee have for succeeding and growing business. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Nathan the very best in his new role, he will have fantastic support from the board and team at Tralee Chamber who are extremely hard working and have the very best interests of Tralee at the heart of their work.
Just in time for Christmas… Terra Gourmet Catering! Around 11 years ago , in the middle of a recession , Terra Foods & Wines opened its doors. Based in Monavalley Industrial Estate , its focus was to serve the strong Hospitality sector in Kerry with Gourmet Foods and quality wines. That was back in 2010 and Terra has expanded its customer base to Munster and beyond .With clients in Kerry , Limerick and Dublin , it has a firm foothold in this challenging sector . Now it has turned its attention to something a little closer to home .At the start of the Pandemic , back in 2020 , Terra Foods saw the need for more quality home dining options and also how the Outside Catering market was rapidly expanding . Then the project began in earnest as Terra expanded in its existing location with the installation of a ‘Full scale ‘ production kitchen. (These kitchens are
capable of producing a high quality product with capacities of up to 1000 meals a day !) There were a lot of moving parts to piece together , planning , logistics , staff and all this while in the middle of a global Pandemic ! Eventually in November 2021 Terra Gourmet Catering was born doubling the size of the existing workforce . At present it has 2 main points of focus ,its catering business (outside and inside ) and also its Christmas Gourmet meals , just in time for the Holiday season ! With regards to catering ,Terras Head chef provide one to one consultations to provide you with a unique and personal event , whether it be a Communion , Christening , Afters of a Wedding, small office party or a good old fashioned birthday party ! The Terra solution could be anything from fancy finger food to a warm buffet or as was the case in Summertime
,a genuine Spanish Paella and Tapas ..nothing is a problem for Terra !As for their Christmas Gourmet Meals , well this is a great opportunity to take the pressure off over Christmas …their offering of a 3 course Gourmet meal (cost €35 pp) served in the comfort of your own home must be very very tempting . And with imaginative sides to compliment this meal . such as
a top quality Wine pairing box , A Charcuterie board of cured meats , A Cheese Board and a Turron de Chocolate , there really is no excuse !Delivery in the Tralee area is free but I would suspect that their booking slots will fill up fast ! Juan or Alberto at Terra can be contacted on 066-7144914 or simply visit www.terragourmet.ie

Just read the headline... it says it all!
Sarah Burns , a journalist with the Irish Times , reports on her recent visit to Tralee ...Methinks the headline says it all ! Here are a few snippets from her article on Sat Dec 4th issue of The Irish Times Tralee: The ‘poor cousin’ of Co Kerry no more Sarah Burns finds lots to do on a weekend trip to the south-western town "A Kerryman once joked to me that Tralee is “like the poor cousin of Killarney and Dingle”. Indeed, the town best known for the Rose of Tralee competition and the capital of the county, is often overlooked for the latter by holidaymakers wishing to spend a few days in the Kingdom." "Having visited the town briefly once before, I was keen to see how Tralee would fare with a over a weekend of outdoor adventures." "The first port of call for my friend and I is check-in at the

Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa (ballygarryhouse.com), " "An overnight stay for two, with breakfast, dinner and a glass of prosecco on arrival is €145 per person. There is also a midweek offer which provides the same, plus a €50 spa voucher, for €169 per person.Hotel guests are greeted by concierge Noel Ryan, who is a walking encyclopedia of Tralee and can point you in the direction of where is best to eat, drink or what to do depending on the time of the year." "With some time to spare before dinner, I decide to take Noel’s advice and go for a cycle through Ballyseedy Woods" "For dinner we head to Croi
restaurant (croirestaurant. com/croi) on Prince’s Street, where their menu emphasises locally foraged food and is known for their tasty cocktails. This turned out to be one of the most enjoyable meals I’ve had post-lockdown," "We have another early start the next day for kayaking around Fenit Lighthouse, a 25-minute drive from Tralee. Wild Water Adventures (wildwateradventures.ie) is a family-operated business run by John and Michaela Edwards and provides a host of water activities including coasteering, sea kayaking and wild swimming tours. The kayaking is a definite highlight of the trip and would be a great activity for a
group of friends looking to do something a little different, " "A quick dip in Fenit beach is a must afterwards as well as a trip to Mike’s beach shop and cafe for some tea and cake " "For those who enjoy fine dining with an aristocratic twist, Ballyseede Castle (ballyseedecastle.com). would be right up their street. Dessert is followed by an obligatory selfie with Mr Higgins (an Irish wolfhound that lives on the grounds)." "Before we hit the road the following day, a morning swim is on the agenda, so we head for Banna Beach"

Finally, Atom complete the 'Bike' Makeover! What a difference! So I got a call from Adam in Atom Bike repair to say that my 'project bike ' was ready and he would be delivering it soon (I must say that this happened a few weeks ago , only a short while after he took the Mountain Bike away ...i'm only getting around to writing this article now !...so 10/10 for speed of service ) Good news first ...,he said that the bike didnt have a lot wrong with it ...that its mainly neglect that harms a bike ...the same as your car ! It needed a new

chain (old one corroded !) , one new gear cable, brake pads for the disc brakes and as we would discover later, a new Gear cassette as the old one kept slipping in the heavy gears (the smaller wheels on the gears ) The main plus was that after Adam did a great clean up of the bike , including getting rid of most of the corrosion , that it was in pretty good shape ! Good saddle , good discs , good tyres , good bodywork ...its rain and outside storage thats the threat to a good bike ! Luckily mine was thrown in my shed ! How resourceful am I ? The chain needs to be serviced regularly to discourage slipping , stretching and wear and regular lubrication everywhere (apart from the brakes) is well recommended by Atom . Cost wise ,while preventative maintenance is advised , replacement of equipment is not too expenxive with Atom . Firstly they do a 'Bronze Silver and Gold service for 25 , 50 and 75 euro ...see their website for more details (atombikefixers)
but also the gear cables are only €7 each , as are the brake cables ..the brake pads are only €5 per brake .The cassette costs from €7 upwards and .the more expensive item was the chain which can range for €10 - €40 depending on the number of gears on your bike ."Bikes are built to last " says Adam ...you dont need to be replacing a

CHRISTMAS RECIPES Noels tips for the perfect Roast Chicken
We’ve all had those thoughts... you want the Big perfect Sunday Roast Dinner but maybe time , budget or convience of shopping is against you! No worries, simply go to the old reliable, the humble Chicken... most people love this type of meat and from a timing, cost and ‘easy to buy’ point of view, nothing could be more perfect! And it allows you the time to prepare whatever sides you think would go well on the day... Everything from fresh veg, roasties, mash, greens, corn, salad, the list goes on! Just take your time and pick out a good Free range (or Organic) Chicken, yes a little more expensive but €8-€12 should get you a fantastic bird that tastes divine!
Roast Chicken
Remove the chicken from the fridge (1 hour before roasting). Pat the chicken dry with paper towels, making sure to absorb all the liquid both outside and inside. Gently sprinkle the inside and outside with salt and then leave to rest for one hour, to let it come up to room temperature. That way the muscles of the chicken will relax and the roasted chicken will have tender and juicy all chickens have a wishbone and removing it will make serving and most of all cutting easier. Without the wishbone, the breast can be sliced nicely, in even slices, without the knife constantly getting stuck. Remove the wishbone by sliding the skin that covers the neck cavity aside and using your thumbs feel on the inside of the cavity for the wishbone. Using a sharp knife make a slice on one side of the cavity in the flesh covering the bone. Using your hand remove the v bone Make sure to brush your chicken well with olive oil. It’s especially important that you don’t forget to brush it under the thighs and wings. That way, the skin of the chicken will get a nice, even, golden brown skin, that we all love. Crispy and delicious. Don’t truss the thighs and wings. It’s better if the chicken thighs are free, so just leave them as they are. That way the temperature while baking will be spread evenly and the chicken will bake faster. However, right before serving or placing your beautiful roast chicken on the dining table, you can truss the wings and thighs to make them look Place the roasting pan on the lowest rack in the oven. That way the skin will be evenly golden brown because the heat will be evenly spread. Also, when placing the roasting pan in the oven, make sure that the legs/thighs are facing the ventilator in the oven. Legs take the longest to cook, so placing them right in front of the ventilator will allow them to cook faster because there’s the highest temperature in the oven.
Let me know if you enjoyed them and we will continue our healthy eating next week and remember to send your quetions to: askchefnoel@hotmail.com

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR TWO WINNERS FROM THREE BUT THERE HAD TO BE ONE DISAPPOINTED SIDE: All three Tralee sides in action at the weekend were a credit to the town with the way they and their fans embraced the occasion and gave us some much needed colour and excitement in the build-up and at the games. Firstly well done to all involved in Na Gaeil and their Intermediate Championship. As well as battling it out for Munster and All Ireland glory they will also be turning their thoughts to playing Senior football next year – a challenge they will be well up for. They replace Killarney Legion who lost their relegation battle to Dr Crokes. In Sunday’s Cup final they defeated Beaufort 0-13 to 1-07in front of a huge travelling support who made their way to the Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney. This was the first Intermediate final for the club and they lined out without three starters. But the club knew it had strength in depth and they controlled the first half to lead 0-08 to 0-02 at the half. While Beaufort fought back as expected Na Gaeil fought hard at both ends of the pitch, with seven players getting on the score sheet and were deserved winners when referee Brendan Brosnan blew the final whistle. While Kerin’s O’Rahillys will be disappointed in the end Austin Stacks are worthy champions. Both sides did Tralee football proud as did their fans in the build up to and at the game. The march by the Stacks fans is a wonderful sight while the Blue and White were also not found wanting in supporting their side. On the field it was the Stacks that won the day and their first County Championship for 7 years and their 13th overall. Rahillys cause certainly wasn’t helped by the loss of Gavin O’Brien in the warm-up and David Moran early on. Both sides gave it everything with the Stacks leading 0-8 to 0-4 at the half. And they extended this to six points at the second half water break. But Rahillys were never going to drop their heads and they fought back to close the gap to a goal 0-13 to 0-10 but Stacks defended manfully to take the win. It wrapped up the double for the Black and Amber as they are also Club Champions. All thoughts now turn to the Munster and hopefully the All Ireland campaign. On the Championship in general and from a Kerry management point of view many of the stalwarts certainly stood out with some of the ‘older’ players certainly giving Jack O’Connor something to think about while there were also some new players who will be hoping for a deserved phone call ahead of the pre-season and League games.

STACKS AT HOME AND NA GAEIL AWAY: Both Austin Stacks and Na Gaeil will start to focus on even bigger days ahead as they head into the Munster Championship and beyond. Austin Stacks will have home advantage in Austin Stack Park where they will take on Newcastle West but Na Gaeil will be on the road to a Tipperary venue (must have lights and a stand) for their meeting with Drom-Inch. THREE PLAYERS ON JOE MCDONAGH TEAM OF THE YEAR: Well done to Eric Leen (at number 4), Fionan Mackessy (at number 7) and Shane Conway (at 15) on their inclusion in the Joe McDonagh Team of the Season. The Kerry panel will be turning their thoughts to the New Year and getting back into competitive action. TERRACE TALK TEAM OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP: Like all such selections many will agree and many will disagree! The Terrace Talk experts on the hugely popular Radio Kerry programme went for - Wayne Guthrie from the Stacks in goal and a full back line of Rahilly’s Cormac Coffey, Dylan Casey and Jack O’Shea from Austin Stacks. The half back line was Gavin White Dr Corkes, Andrew Barry St Brendan’s and Paul O’Sullivan Austin Stacks with his team mate Joe O’Connor joining Tom Hoare in midfield. The six forwards are Michael O’Gara from the Stacks, Jack Savage Rahillys and Dr Crokes Brian Looney with the full forward line being Dara O’Brien Austin Stacks, Tommy Walsh Kerins O’Rahillys and Kieran Donaghy from the Stacks. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The underage section of the club is thrilled to join in the County Championship winning celebrations and for Dylan Casey who becomes the latest captain of the Rock to life the Cup following on from Joe Barrett – 4 times in ’28, 30, 31 and 32, Miko Doyle in 1936, Billy Curtin 1973, JO Jo Barrett 1975, John O’Keeffe in 1976, Ger Power in 1979, Mike Counihan in 1986, Pat Slattery 1994 and Barry Shanahan in 2014. ‘The game is done, the Bishop’s won and now resides in Rock Street. Let ‘Munster’ come, keep up the fun and bag the Munster Title!’ The Stacks are also celebrating their win in the Tralee / St Brendan’s u15 Championship final where they defeated Ardfert. The decider was played on a wintery evening in John Mitchels and the first half was a tight encounter with the sides level at 4 points each. With scores hard to come by the boys did very well to add on six second half
points and restrict their opposition to just 6 points in total. Na Gaeil Notes: The AGM will take place on Thursday January 20th at 8pm with motions to club secretary John Keating at secretary. nagaeil.kerry@gaa.ie by Thursday December 30th. Lotto: There was no winner from the numbers drawn in the Lotto 13, 17, 25 and 26 and the next jackpot will be e5900. RAHILLYS NOTES: The whole club is very proud of the performance of the seniors and management in the big final last weekend and of all the work they put in all year. It wasn’t our day but our troops battled bravely to the end and must take great heart from this year’s run. They can hold their heads high as they did the club and themselves proud. This Sunday sees the visit of the Big Man in Red with Santa visiting Strand Road. The day is open to both club members and neighbours of the club. Lotto:There was no winner of the jackpot from the numbers drawn 1,5, 7 and 20 with the next jackpot being e2900. WARRIORS REACH ANOTHER CUP SEMI-FINAL: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors will be happy to have overcome a tricky National Cup quarter final tie over Moycullen. The Warriors had narrowly beaten the Galway side away in the League so this was always going to be close. There was only three points between the sides at the end of the first quarter but increased that to 13 at the break which proved to be the difference in the game. The Warriors will feel they have unfinished business in the Cup having lost the last two semi-finals including one against this year’s opponents DBS Eanna who knocked Team360 Financial out at the weekend. Top scorers on the night were Daniel Jokubaitis on 20 points followed by Aaron Calixte on 17 and Ronalds Elsknis on 14. Head Coach John Dowling was happy with the win and progression to the semi-finals in the Neptune Stadium early in the New Year but said his side have big games to play before that. “While all roads lead to Cork we have some big League games before then and we must focus on those first.” This Saturday night the Warriors head to the reigning (albeit controversial) SuperLeague champions Belfast Star. MERCY MOUNTHAWK ON THE DOUBLE IN SCHOOLS CUP: Mercy Mounthawk has a reputation as one of the top basketball schools in the country and that was seen again this week the u16’s and u19’s both qualified for their semi-finals of the All Ireland Boys A Cup. The win by the 16’s guarantees a Kerry school in the final as Mounthawk meet St Pat’s Castleisland while the 19’s await the winner of the St Joe’s Bish and St Paul’s Oughterard semi-final. KINGDOM WHEELBLASTERS HEAD TO CORK: Round 2 of the Senior Wheelchair Basketball League sees the Kingdom Wheelblasters head to Cork with the games taking place in the Upper Glanmire Sports Hall from 10am. The

Kerry side are not in action until the afternoon and at 3pm they tip-off against South East Swifts. Six clubs are in League action at the venue. TOMAS NAMED ON IRISH SQUAD: Once again an Irish basketball squad has been named and there is a Kerry player included. This time it’s the Irish u16 squad with Tralee Imperials Tomas Kennedy included by coach Pat Price. KABB ACTION CONTINUES: There are games all through the week in the Kerry Airport Kerry Area Basketball Leagues will full results on the KABB social media platforms. The Leagues will take a break for Christmas from December 19th. Tralee Imperials had a busy week but the highlight for the younger members was the u6’s to u9’s and u10’s Christmas Parties with treats and sweets and lots of party games. Looking at some juvenile results this week and in the u18 Boys Division 1&2 Group B Imperials defeated St Bridgets 64-36 but in the u16 Boys St Mary’s took the win over Imperials 51-45. Imperials u18 Girls Division 3 side were also winners defeating Kenmare Kestrels 35-29. Tralee Tigers u18 boys went down to St Brendan’s but the Tigers u16 boys were winners at home to TK Vixens. JOURNEY OVER FOR KERRY SOCCER SQUADS: There was no joy in the Kennedy and Gaynor Cups for Kerry squads at the weekend. The boys played in the (u14) Kennedy Bowl semi-final in Eamon Deasy Park going down 3-2 to hosts Galway SL. Kerry will regret some missed chances while their hosts were clinical and went 3-0 up. Credit to the Kerry boys they pulled two back in the closing stages but ran out of time. The 13’s girls were in Oriel Park to take on the Louth Schoolgirls League and were leading 1-0 until the home side hit them for two late goals. The 15’s girls went down to Limerick in their Gaynor Bowl semi-final. All three squads put in a huge effort this year as did the parents who drove them to training and games. Hopefully all of them will return in the New Year for the Inter Leagues. Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Father sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. D.M.
